Took her online and she was great. Very responsive, lots of comments and good communication. Very interesting lectures, in fact, I saved them for future. The text was awesome too and I've since read it since it's an anthology. Highly recommend her. (Not sure about her history classes or if she's still teaching women's studies)
Great Teacher!! She is helpful and really easy to understand, explains everything. Just have to show up and pay attention, test are easy too!
WORST teacher ever. she is so boring......i had to dropped her because i failed all the tests. her tests doesnt even relate to her notes/book. she doesn't even use the book, she looked up from online only. She's not mean, but super BORING!!
Dr. Standish is okay. Lectures are quite boring sometimes. Her class is mainly based on tests. If you feel the tests, then that's it. We had two class discussions and 4 tests. I went through the class w/o a book so not sure if everything was based on the book or not but her study guides are from online. However, it doesn't cover all tests Q's. cont
continuing... lectures in class doesn't really pertain to test, I find it boring... Other than that, she's a kool lady. If you like listening and taking notes, then go for it, but if you're not a good listener, then I suggest choosing someone else.
She is a very boring teacher. You sit there and try to keep your eyes open. All she does is lecture and what she lectures isn't even on any of the tests. Probably the hardest class I've taken
Good teacher. You don't even have to listen to her lectures (though their great if you actually want to learn something about history). just use the online study guides and you'll pass her multiple choice tests. She requires one of the four tests in essay form which are chosen at random prior to the test. just read the book and you'll pass it
Great history teacher!! Lectures are always interesting and she really cares about the topic. Pay attention during lectures and keep up on the reading and you'll do just fine. I went into the class with no interest whatsoever and came out a history buff!!
I skipped class or listened to my MP3 player half the time, never bought the textbook, never took notes, missed one class discussion, and still got a B. Just use SparkNotes for the written exam and print out the answers to the quizzes on the textbook website for the multiple choice exams. PIECE OF CAKE.
Very nice lady, she is helpful and easy! SHE KNOWS A LOT ABOUT HISTORY! test are either essay or multiple choice... you are allowed to have a 3x5 card and for essay tests she gives you topic before test! NICE LADY
Awesome teacher! I got a D in the class and still LOVED it! She's really good at explaining, and if you're not a slacker (me) you'll do well. She's not only a good teacher but a good friend. If I have to retake this class (probably) I'll take it with her!
The fact is this...Because of Dr. Standish I now want to become a history teacher myself. If I could make people care half as much about American history as she made me care then it would be totally worthwhile. Laid back, very personable, great lectures...I cant say enough good things...And if that weren't enough, she's pretty easy on the eyes.
Not sure if she was more boring than irritating. No teaching no learning. Waste of a semester.
Took as an Internet class. it was...interesting. one the one hand, there were a lot of errors in tests, which was really annoying, but she did do her best to fix them. I liked that she had a lot of multimedia with her lectures. Some of the multi-choice and fill-in questions were completely out of left field. Pretty average, I guess.
Who gave this teacher good ratings? She is boring, seems totally unprepared and is in her own world. Take someone else, no way will you stay awake or enjoy this one.
This class was pretty easy but the teacher is soooooooooo boring!!! She goes off subject too much and talks about her stupid cats all the time. The online tests are really easy. It is the same exact answers as the practice test so I don't understand how someone could fail the test. And her jokes are real lame. Overall okay class but really boring!!
This class is so easy. Extremely boring though. The lectures have nothing to do with the tests so there is really no need to go to class. Just do the online practice tests and it's an easy A on the midterms. If you're looking for an easy A, I recommend this teacher 100%.
Overall a good professor. I hate history yet i still managed to do well in the class. She is very helpful, will respond to all emails, makes herself available in office for students. She grades Kinda hard but its not that hard of work. just do a little reading and some online practice tests and your good to go. TAKE HER IF YOU AREN'T GREAT AT HIST
Boring and hard to understand. A very irritating laugh. Whats the point of a good grade if you don't learn anything. Don't bother taking Standish.
I liked this instructor a lot. SHe REALLY knows and loves history. I do not. Her online practice tests are available and if you utilize them you will do well. 3 mideterms, 1 term paper, several quizes and final. SHe is very helpful and available to answer questions.
Easy grade, terrible teacher. She should stick to online classes because she can't give a good class or lecture.
Incredibly boring. She needs to review her teaching style. Her grading is off.
Very Boring Class. 2 midterms and 1 final. You have to buy a textbook because your going to use them alot. Always replies to email and is their if you need her. Make sure you study for the midterms and finals online (etudes) and you will get a good grade but I would recommend her due to the fact that her way of teching is boring!
First of all, if you are not into History, this class will BORE you. Optional multiple-choice test or essay. Multiple-choice is VERY EASY. I only studied an hour and I finished in 10 minutes which is good for a history course. She is very nice, but if you give her attitude she will respond aggressively. Her lectures are spazzy and feel endless.
The class is long, especially if you take it TTH. She lectures until the end. Taking notes can be a challenge, because she jumps around a lot, but has lecture notes on overhead and online. Buy both books. Go to class; she takes notice and will grade easier on essays. That said, I would take her again, but on MWF.
Her lectures don't really have anything to do with the tests and are super hard to follow. she lectures through the whole class and the lectures are very uninteresting. it would help if she used power point so people could follow along. there are some group discussions. online quiz's and 3 in class multiple choice tests. as for studying there's onl
How can one fail this course? All I had to do was practice online quizzes and write a decent paper. I got an A. The text was really great. Lecture was long, but take the one hour courses instead of the 1.5 hour and you'll be fine.
This class was so easy. Go to class and draw or sleep. She keeps attendance but the lectures have nothing to do with the tests so it doesn't matter. To pass the tests(which are online) use the study guide and you will get an A+. There are several papers but they aren't hard. She's really nice and very helpful if you need it. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
Hard teacher, her final exam covered 8 different chapters and many of the questions were little nit-picks from the book. Do not take her!
Recommend. She speaks very clearly and I never had a problem understanding what she wanted from an assignment. Has sense-of-humor. Tests are very easy: simply memorize the study guide to the tests (most of which are online), attend the lectures, and you've got it made. I aced the final by looking over the S.G. for less than an hour. Received an A.
she talks alot. class is boring. fall asleep just listening to her. i did all assignments on time. and still manage a A to B grade even when i barely pay attention. i aced two tests but failed one. the only problem is that I COULDVE PASS HER DUMB CLASS! but she failed me because of a research paper. that i turned in a DAY late. unfair!
I am currently enrolled in History 17A with Standish. She is a horrible teacher. All she does is lecture there is no in class discussions or class work. Her lectures are impossible to take notes to.There are three exams that have nothing to do with the lectures. You have to read the book. Very boring class I do not reccomend taking it from her.
Her lecture's are meaningless and her work is not that hard at all. Also, she can be a real b*tch and not help you out.
Really easy teacher, her tests are online and she even gives you a 100 question review and 50 of those question going to be on the test. Just her way of grading your paper is hard which is only one time i got a C on it but i still pass the class with a A. Homework are easy too just do some studying for the answers to her review and you will pass
Eww I took her class last semester and I was so bored during her lectures. You could never go to class and still get at least a B. All you have to do is read the book for the tests and you're set. Her lectures were not related to the tests in the least. I hated going to this class and would definitely not recommend taking it.
Really cool teacher, you don't have to come to class, just use the study guides for tests cause thats all thats used for tests. Also very helpful
Dude you have to be a idiot to fail her class, it was so fun and she is passionate about what she does! Her lectures are actually informative and very helpful, and man she is hot, which is a added bonus
She doesn't stop talking, there's no discussion. It's really fast history info, events all the way to the end of each class. Hope you can write really fast and remember what happened in every moment of every century.
This lady was great. She is one of the best teachers here at delta college. And man she is HoTTTTTT she was on fire.
Great teacher. Thats all I have to say.
Her lectures are boring, and hard to follow because she goes over the material really fast. She doesn't let u attend class if you're more than 10 minutes late for any reason, also you can't leave class even to use the restroom, she will stop the lecture and give you a dirty look. Her teaching style is poor & would not suggest her to anyone.
Agree w/ others that only idiots fail this class. Don't blame the teacher when she gave clear instructions on the first day (& thru-out the semester) bout the work required. Use study guide to pass exams & write good summaries. Research paper is required & shouldn't be late when she gives you more than a month to write it! Attendance not required.
Take this teacher. Easy pass. Don't even need to attend her lectures; just read text on your own. She posts upcoming in class assignment onion so you know when you do need to show. Online exams w/ study guides. Just do ur work. Ppl complaining bout her rules during class shouldn't have gone to class if they were planning to be late/leave early. DUH
DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER
Lectures move fast but there is power point, take notes on the big stuff and use your study guide.Study Guide questions are WORD 4 WORD what is on the test. You can self grade your study guide online as many times as you want, so you know you have the right answers.Tests are given online so you don't have to go on test day.Attend 4 grp wrk, easy paper
I loved and learned so much in this class! She's a no nonsence kind of person, but i admire that about her. She treats you with the respect you deserve:) She was very helpful and eager to help me when ever i asked. I'm taking her for a second History class this semester and i'm excited to see what she has to teach me about world history!
She is TERRIBLE! I wouldn't sugesst her to anyone! Her lectures are dreadful, she is not a nice person at all! Her online tests are ridiculously long and simply over the top. I failed this class because I was soooooo bored and sooooooo irritated with her that I just stop showing up. She has no patience and is mean if you're late.
Shes nice but hates people who show up late/talks alot The textbook was required for hw, otherwise I took the practice tests online and got most of the answers before the actual test. She posts when HW is due online so you can have it ready for class that day. Didn't show up the last 2 weeks cept for final. You write 1 paper, have awhile to do it.
This woman is amazing!!!!!!!!!! She is one of the best professors I have ever had, and she really knows a great deal about what she is teaching. Her lectures and directions are crystal clear, and unless you're completely special, there is no way that you can fail her class. If you take any of her classes you should consider yourself lucky.....
I get the feeling her TA writes reviews cos she really sucks. Boring, unorganized, learn nothing. This teacher makes an interesting subject awful. Avoid this woman!
Nice lady, class mostly lecture, pretty boring, tests are easy once you learn how to do them, she is really helpful and trys to make the class as easy as possible.
Nice lady, bit of a hard grader. Classes are quite pointless (entirely lecture, some class things every once in a while) boring 99.9% of the time. Tests are easy once you get how to do them. Overall nice teacher, semi-easy class.
Although I like her, took notes and spent more time studying for this class than any other somehow she failed to convey the information necessary to do well on tests. Also graded unfairly IMNSHO. Instead of just reading through the outlines would have been more effective emphasizing pertinent information. I love history but...
Easy teacher. One research paper and the test is the study guide. Use office hours to see her and she will go over the study guide with you
This class is okay. If you want an easy A for credits, take it. If you want to learn, choose something else. Only a few HW assignments and she emails when they'll be so you know when to come. Mostly just lectures. Hard tests but gives a great study guide and allows a notecard. SUPER boring lectures, and the lecture info isn't on the test. Easy A.
This class is super boring, and tests are hard. The study guides take time to finish. Whatever is on the study guide is on the test. There is some class assignments. Attendance counts as part of your grade.
She's great. study guides and 4x6 cards are incredibly helpful. must attend class regularly. research paper was easy, tests were easy-she will tell you the right answers to all of the test questions of the study guide on review days. reading is not really necessary, but the phrases in questions are directly out of the book. wonderful lady.

Took online summer class. Don't bother looking over lectures, no questions on her tests needed it. Gives you study guide before test and randomly picks questions. Fill them all out and you will be fine. The paper sucks only because of the need to find good "acceptable sources". Takes time but easyish.
Awesome class. Super duper easy. She gives out a study guide and takes questions right off it for test. She grades harshly on discussions for some reason... But still a good class and easy to pass. The study guide is so easy to memorize and the tests are CAKE especially if you go to class because her lectures are extremely relevant to tests. Doesn't pay attention to attendance either but it's smart if you go!!!
Overall OK Teacher, Lectures are not very engaging, Study guides are immense, but questions are pulled from guides. Only 3 tests during semester so one mess up will ruin grade. Stick with latest edition text book, I got earlier edition like my other classes and this is the one class it did not work.
Mediocre professor. I enjoy her lectures, but most people seem not to. She has a tangent habit but generally keeps things on track. No lecture material shows up on the tests, only reading stuff. Grades fairly hard on the term paper/essay questions, and even the multiple choice questions are pretty hard. I learned quite a lot, but only managed a B.
I LOVED this class. Super easy AND she makes it interesting. She lectures all class with an outline on a projector screen and is very easy to follow. We did a lot of group work and discussion in them, which I am not a fan of. But overall she is a wonderful professor who is passionate about the class and it is very enjoyable and easy.
Conscise, organized teaching style! Knows cool oddball things about history, but tends to go on tangents. BOOK IS A MUST! all questions on study guides are in book, and identical to tests. Everything posted online. BE PREPARED TO READ! attendence only, mandatory initally, after W date, not really looked at. Be prepared for essay! worth 25% of grade
Professor Standish is a very outgoing, fun, and energetic teacher. She gives studyguide for midterms, and it's all from the book, nothing really from lectures. She's kinda picky on papers, but I still got easy b's on all of them. Highly reccomned her
She's outgoing and passionate about history. She is well organized, her study guides are a must, to do well on her tests. She is fast when it comes to emails, shows that she really wants to help out students. She has only 6 huge assignments for the entire semester, don't procrastinate, do all the assignments/tests and you will do just fine.
Clear instructions, helpful professor, grades assignments quickly, low point value class (360 points over the summer, no extra credit), textbook required.
BEST ONLINE TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! She is very quick to respond and grade. There were only 8 assignments for the Summer session. 3 Discussions, 1 of which was an informal introduction. An easy Syllabus quiz, 3 tests all of which you are given the answers to prior to the test in the form of a study guide. And a 1000 word research paper. TAKE HER!!
Professor Standish was an amazing professor and is very knowledgeable about history. The class is relatively easy and most to everything is due online. The only downside is that the lecture can get kind of dry towards the end but other than that the class was relatively enjoyable.
Standish is so knowledgeable and in love with history. The content of her classes are always interesting and she gives you study guides with the exact questions that will be on the test. Very much recommended.
Mrs.standish is a good teacher. She is very precise on due dates and grading. however, she is very specific on what she wants for any answer or response. This class was more like an English class than a history class.
Not helpful and explains unclearly
She talks too fast and blows through each chapter. its sad to say that i learned more through that study guides than the actual teaching. she was late on grading our papers and test... ok, well if there weren't so many questions and really long papers, maybe you would be able to grade them in a timely manor.
Tests are essay based on lecture and multiple choice based on book. Lot of ground to cover to prep for each test. Required 2 small and 1 large paper, found grading to be inconsistent for papers. Lectures can seem long at times.
Dr. Standish is an excellent professor. She gives her students everything they need to succeed in her class. From lecture notes, to comprehensive study guides for all of her exams. However, you do need to be a fairly strong writer to succeed in this class, probably ended up around 10,000 words including the exams.
This class is easy because all tests and papers are done online. The lectures are interesting but don't necessarily help you on the tests. She is a very tough grader on your papers and is very strict on grammar, punctuation, organization, etc. There are 3 papers and 3 tests and no homework at all. If you do all the work on time, it's easy to pass.
Dr. Standish is a wonderful teacher. Getting an A is as simple as following the College formula; Show up to class on time (not five minutes late), take notes or download them ahead of time and annotate them, fill out all the test study guides ahead of time (she opens them about a month in advance) and the tests will be easy.
Professor Standish is an amazing teacher who clearly loves her job. She brings energy and passion to each class, and is always willing to answer any questions or concerns. History isn't my favorite subject but Professor Standish made the class interesting and interactive. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Not a great class, goes to fast
I took Prof Standish for Hist2A and 2B (both online), she can be a bit nit picky about Chicago format for the one paper you have to write, brush up on the format before you start writing the paper, but other than that a good teacher.
VERY tough grader on every assignment; took her class online. And when you ask for help/tips, she doesn't really explain much as to what she's looking for or how she'll grade.
Easy class... Don't know why people complain... do the work and try your best and you will be fine.
Great class if you don't want to do anything and just need a solid C or B. earning an A is more difficult considering she makes the class only 410 points. 11 or 12 assignments for the entire semester, includes discussions, tests, quizzes,a brief paper. downfall of class is if you want an A ,you basically have to get an A on all work. Low maintenance
Her class was less history and more English. The fact that we had to buy a book on how to write papers for history should tell you enough about this ridiculous way this teacher has of teaching Lots and lots of discussions online. I felt like I didnt learn as well because so much focus was placed on how we had to write. Stay away at all costs
I took this class Summer 2018 online and her class was very doable. Professor Standish is straightforward with her class. Very easy if you stay on task. The only thing I found challenging was the Chicago paper. Other than that great class. Get a good grade an all your assignments dont miss a lot of points and you will receive an A in this class.
I loved this class! If you're looking for an easy A, take it with Ms. Standish. Minimal quizzes and tests, and only 3 discussions. She is a bit tough on Chicago Format on the term paper, but she only knocks off a few points. If you complete all other assignments, you'll be fine. Highly recommend.
Professor Standish is probably one of the best history professors I've had. I'm currently taking her class online right now and she gives helpful feedback. You can only fail if you don't do the work, which there's only one assignment each week.
Prof is very standoffish and zoned out. Has a convoluted grasp of history which does does not include black people. According to her we never existed but this is unfair because black lives matter too. We have a right to be recognized in the historical record.
Prof is very standoffish and zoned out. Has a convoluted grasp of history which does does not include black people. According to her we never existed but this is unfair because black lives matter too. We have a right to be recognized in the historical record. Do not take this class, you will be sorry. Transfer to another college.
Professor Standish is very considerate and wonderful. Yes she is a TOUGH grader. It is hard to make up points since there are very few assignments. The discussion topics are very interesting. Do more than the minimum requested! The paper was not hard, start early. You will work for an A, but is doable. Do the 5 essay questions on the study guide!
I would only recommend this class if you would like to be challenged. Her and her graders are very strict in grading. If you mess up one part of the assignment they would take many points away, even for small mistakes.
Professor Standish is one of the best professors at Delta. She is very informed in her fields of study and is always willing to help. She answers my questions (emails) within a few hours. Just do the reading and study guides and you'll be guaranteed to get an A. The study guide is the test! It's an easy A. Don't listen to all the haters!
I really enjoyed Hist 2A with Prof. Standish! The lecture material is all written out in an essay format. You have to read the lecture and book in order to be successful. I am a science major so I don't really enjoy history but this class is a good choice. She lays out the grading clearly and is helpful if you have any questions. GOOD CLASS!
I just finished the course in Spring 2020, got an A but worked for it. Read the book from cover to cover. Use the Study Guide to prepare for exams. The Research Paper was a challenge. Follow instructions very closely for Discussions to get full credit in her class. Professor is great at responding quickly to emails and helpful feedback.
Toughest professor Ive had. Shes a really strict grader and doesnt even have the decency to do it herself, her TAs do her job for her. I would not recommend.
Changes the due dates of assignments with absolutely no notice to the day of. Extremely hard to stay caught up even if you are diligent with your work.
Honestly, the worst teacher I have ever had in my life! Don't go for her, trust me! The work is textbook heavy, you will be docked for tiny mistakes, and you will grow to hate history.... even more than most already do.
Yeah.. never again. The TA's grade harshly and they are so annoying. I don't like the structure of the class and quite honestly feel like my grade should've been higher because I did all the assignments, quizzes, and exams and got graded as if I did nothing. Consider taking another professor and pray you don't get those TA's that ruin your grade.
Honestly, she's a below average professor. She does not explain well what she wants in her assignments and her TAs do all of her grading. But she gives you her essay test questions in the study guide, so you can study off of that. If I could I would not take her again, but if she was the only professor left then I would have to.
TA grades all the papers. Horrible experience, would not take again. No communication on what she actually wants, then takes weeks for the TA's to grade the papers.
As difficult as this class was, I found it very rewarding. The professor certainly is no nonsense, she's strict but firm, and much like a Marine Corps DI, the more you hate, the more you will learn. This class taught me to be tough and to give 110% at all times. So long as you stay on top of the readings and take good notes, you'll be fine.
She is a difficult grader. I did well in her class and I guess she was feeling all high and mighty that she gave me an A-. She couldn't even put it as an A. Terrible teacher.
If you take her online you need to be motivated and do ALL the reading. Usually a textbook chapter and a transcribed lecture and The work itself wasn't bad and she graded the essay exams leniently - the first exam I didn't finish my essays by the time limit and still got full credit on the exam. For discussions and HW read all instructions.
