she is so impossible to understand that I ended up never going to lecture
No Comments
She made things understandable and was pretty cool, I skipped the midterm and she let me take it 3 weeks later!
Didn't understand a word
Hmmm...I thought she did a great job of explaining things--I had no problems understanding her and the exams were easy...
She was 10X easier than all of the other 152 classes. Her midterms were the same! Definetly recomend!
She makes the subject much easier to learn and she is easy to understand. Always willing to help out. Just study what she tells you to and you'll be fine.
Her speech is a little hard to understand but she explains the concepts very well.
she explains things extremely well by showing easier examples and then increasing the difficulty. her tests were fair and the review sessions were very helpful. aboughazi is by far the best math 152 teacher i have seen at osu
Once you understand her accent and her teaching style, you realize that she does have a method to her madness
uses really good examples, and if you can understand her accent, she explains things very well. not really a class you would get bored in.
She makes midterms and final very similar to example problems she goes over before the exams. Her examples are easy to follow.
Good luck understanding this woman. She always wears lovely socks and comes in at the bell.
She is an amazing professor..she is incredibly helpful and clear and fair.
Hyper, all over the place...and hard to understand with her thick accent!
the best professor i have ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was very smart, but difficult to understand with her accent sometimes. The class was easy. She was not really interesting: do not take this class at 7:30 in the morning, you will rarely go.
Pretty much the best math teacher you can hope for
Difficult to understand but always very energetic. Even when asking questions in person, it was often difficult to decipher her "help". Was embarrased more than once by asking a "dumb" question (& since it is math, many questions are d
Absolutely amazing!!!! The first time I ever understood math.
Honestly, one of the best math profs I've ever had on this campus--and I'm not one who's big on the math dept here. Made the 0730 class seem fun because she's always so friendly and ready to teach.
She really cares for her students and wants them to succeed. She was one of the best math teachers I have ever had; math will really make sense to you if taught by Prof. Aboughazi. She is also very enthusiastic about her job and about math!
Great easy going clear teacher, very funny
i didnt go to class much, but the tests weren't very hard. it was easy, but she didnt curve.
This teacher was amazing. The material seemed easy because of the way she taught! She loves to help and her lectures are amazing! Thumbs way up!
She is very nice and tries hard, but her accent is hard to understand at first. She goes a too slow in lecture. Some times it is hard to follow because she goes so slow. Easy tests, nice lady
The best Math professor I ever had
rachida rocked my socks! she was great. if i had to take another 7:30 am math class, she would be my lady.
it is hard to understand what she is saying all the time
Couldn't really understand what she said and was a little crazy.
This teacher is almost impossible to understand and seemed to make things more confusing. Once i stopped going to classes and started using my TA, Phil Paun more often, My grade shot up.
knows what she's talking about. she's very funny and always willing to help.
made it easy, lovable accent
Great math teacher, makes tests straight forward. Not too much homework, like 2 problems per section. If you don't go to class, at least go the time before an exam, her exams are exactly like the review problems.
she is precious. absolutely adorable and I really felt like she cared that we did well on the exams. not 'tearing your hair out and barely passing' well, but actually well. greatly appreciated.
She is a very nice lady. Her explanations are very clear and she is very willing to teach. She also has a very unique personality and brings a lot of laughter into the class.
She's awesome! Very helpful and great at explaining the more difficult concepts. Kind of out there, but she's fun.
I had her for two classes and she was awesome. She is the sweetest lady ever, a little difficult to understand at first, but you get used to her accent. She wasn't too hard, but math is a subject that you have to keep up with or you'll be lost.
She was okay, but yes at times it was hard to understand what she was saying.

She was HILARIOUS. She came to calss everyday in sweatpants and oversized shirts. And she was the best Calculus teacher EVER.
She is very funny and interesting. I like her. He is a funn teacher to watch.
This lady is hilarious, I wish she was my mom!!
I took her class in '98! she was awesome! She was the reason I stuck with my degree program...Engineering! Very helpful
she is probably one of the better professors here.. def not stressful
I don't like math, but Aboughazi made Math FUN! She taught my first college math class of my first college quarter and was soooo wonderful! I would take a class again with her any day! She has a great sense of humor and is very sweet and helpful!
I would not reccomend her
She is... pretty much terrible. Her accent hinders things and she always teaches the easy stuff and leaves us to be raped on the tests.
Yeah, her accent made it hard to understand her, but she was always willing to go the extra mile for you. If you were having problems with something and talked to her about it, she would always meet you in the tutor room to help you out...even if it wasn't in her office hours. She's really nice and easy to talk to too.
She was ok, but her accent was hard to understand....and the class just sucked in general so I dont know how she was compared to everyone else.
I was a math major when I took this, which may be why I thought it was easy...but still I don't think it was too challenging. The homework was never overwhelming, nor were the tests. She seemed like a nice lady, but she was hard to understand sometimes with the accent. She seemed very willing to help students.
Very helpful and has genuine desire to teach so that everyone understands what's going on, but you have to go to class!

Her English isn't perfect, but she tries her best to be clear. She is always willing to help, something hard to find in most teachers. If you go to class and take notes you should do fine.
A very clear lecture. And a wonder in office hours. I loved her.
She was better than other math professors at Ohio State. No big curveballs on tests... just what she says will be on there. If you can do the homework and the class examples, you'll be fine
hard to understand
Tended to be confusing in the lecture, she got too excited and was all over the place. If you are taking a math with content you haven't learned before, I wouldn't recommend her. She's fine to trip your memory but not so awesome if you need to understand new concepts. She was willing to help, though, and had a caring attitude.
I actually had 153 last spring. From what I've experienced, Math teachers are usually the most out there in terms of having no grasp of what they should be expecting of students, as in talking about greek historians and then making an final of what seems like theory. Aboughazi actually tested us on what she taught, which is commendable.
This woman is HILAROUS! one of my favorites. Very clear and funny.
Good teacher... not that easy to understand but is helpful. you need to go to class to get the notes but the notes were helpful in studying. tests were pretty easy!
Good teacher. Hard to understand. Willing to help.
her english is slightly broken at times- which can be confusing when she is explaining how to do the math problems. but for the most part i would recommed her, she has a sense of humor and she is nice.
She was a great teacher. I would recommend her to anyone.
Excellent
she is outgoing ready to listern to students all the time
Rachida was a good teacher. She cared, she was friendly, and took time out to explain things when someone asked.
She was very helpful, very well prepared, used many examples, and explained her examples in more than one way to make sure that everyone understood.
Great teacher, pretty funny when her voice goes high haha
She goes WAY too fast! It's hard to understand what her point is. I'm a great student (GPA above 3.5), but I failed this class. Thank god for freshman forgiveness.
goes way to fast and hard to understand she seems to go over the easy stuff a lot and the hard stuff not much i had to read the book multiple time but my TA was Helpful.
I would not recommend her to anyone
Hard to understand, doesn't know how to teach.
She's alright, can be hard to understand with the accent though. But does try her best to help you.
She tries her hardest to get her students understand the material. The only problem is that Aboughazi has trouble speaking English. most everyone has blanks looks on their faces because going to lecture is like going to a different country. She is very nice and knows her math, but can't clarify it too well.
She was a really sweet woman, and tried to make it as fun as possible. It sometimes got hard to understand her because she doesn't speak great english - but she tried to be as helpful as possible. Give her a shot!
I thought Dr. Aboughazi was great. I didn't find her accent difficult at all. She's a little spontaneous, but in a math class I think that's good. I definitely recommend her!
I really enjoyed having her. She has an accent, but she explains things very well and to the point.
Loved her! She really cares about the students, and when you get her attention to ask a question, she really focuses in on you and tries to answer. Do the homework and the exams are easy!
Teaches VERY FAST. would not recommend!
Not the best professor... You can't help but like her because she is very nice but doesn't explain things well and has an accent. You pretty much have to teach yourself or hope for a good TA. Just do the homework and the class isnt too bad.
very nice and clear
She's a really nice woman but watch out for the final, it's based mostly in the end of the course that we never really went over.
Rachida Aboughazi is my Professor for my Math 150 class. Her teaching style is the key to my success because she is clear and organized. She involves the students in her teaching and makes sure we know what is going on and we understand the material.
She's a great teacher! Don't listen to the reviews about her creating a hard final, she has no control over the midterms and finals. They are made by the math department. I would definitely reccommend her, even though you can't choose the math lecturer. If you don't get her, go to her lectures anyway.
she is very helpful but odd. she makes funny noises every so often when she is lecturing. doesn't go over the last sections enough so the final is really tough unless you DO THE HOMEWORK.
Good professor; assignments were clear, and the class is less boring than you would expect.
She is a great teacher. She enjoys her job and I liked her. She was the first professor for my first college class ever at 8:30 ugh
I love her! She is adorable. She is very cheery and really enjoys teaching. She gets excited about math (and then her voice gets really high). She is easy to understand most of the time and tries very hard to answer any questions you have.
She was a nice woman who seemed genuinely interested in teaching. Sometimes she seemed rushed and had a hard time getting her point across and was a little hard to understand.
She did seem a little unorganized at times, but you will not find a better professor for 153. Everyone I know has averages in the 60's, but our class's average on the exams was in the 80's, just unheard of. She is really helpful and she will do whatever she can to help you. Take her
Very difficult to understand and she talks extremely fast.
She's nice, but a little hard to understand. If you ask for help, she's good about that and seems to take note of it (my final grade was higher than I expected). As far as the class goes, you just need a good TA and you'll be fine.
She is very helpful. She makes the class fun and lively. She has loads of energy and enjoys what she does. I recommend her.
Loved Her!!!
Sometimes spoke to fast, but I didn't find her hard to understand as some previous reviewers. Helpful and would explain questions thoroughly when asked. Sometimes she was slightly unorganized but for the most part the class was good. Tests were pretty much as expected - everything she went over in lecture.
Could be worse. She knows the material, but her biggest issue is that she's a small woman with a small voice in a giant lecture hall; using a microphone just made her voice sound muddy. Accent wasn't much of an issue. In a smaller class I'd have no problem taking her again.
Writes too fast and needs an English speaking course. The Indian professor is much better.
She was alright. Meh...
Too fast to understand + bad accent.
Amazing professor. Very helpful but you have to get to know her. Go to her office hours! She will gladly review a midterm with you and try to get you points back for that midterm! It takes a week to start to understand her but just sit up front and ask her to repeat if needed. She's from Morocco so she speaks english well with a small accent.
She is a wonderful teacher with a great attitude. She will stay after class to help you and encourages you to visit her office hours if you need extra help. You need to go to class everyday and pay attention if you expect to do well, so showing up for tests and quizzes only won't cut it.
She was kind of hard to understand at times. I didn't think math 104 would be hard, but she doesn't really explain stuff in class well. My TA is great though!
Nice woman, entertaining to listen too. Good teacher really goes over important points to clarify what she's talking about. Sometimes babbles nonsense that has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but its not too bad
She was awesome. Her class was very easy but only because she was a truely great professor. You get used to her accent
Rachida was great best math lecturer i have had here at OSU. I had her fall quarter wish i still could have a course with her. Her accent you will get used to after week 1. Take her:)
Comes off nice, but then after a while gives an unnecessary attitude
She's very clear unless you're not accustomed to her accent. Very helpful in her office hour. Exams do not come from her, but from a math department. Do all extra credits online.
Worst professor I have ever had. Her accent is extremely difficult to understand, and the few times I was able to comprehend a full sentence, it was complete nonsense and unrelated. It doesn't help that her handwriting is at the skill level of a 2 year old so you cant even follow the notes. Expect to learn the material completely out of the book.
As others have said, you will be able to understand her accent after one week of going to lecture. She goes through problems thoroughly, she is nice, she is amusing too. Her handwriting can be difficult to read at times, but it should not pose a problem and don't be afraid to ask for clarifications. Sometimes she is a little scatter-brained.
While she was a very challenging professor, I found her to be extremely clear and she knew her material well and communicated it well. In my mind, an excellent professor!
She gives the class attitude a lot. does not teach, but asks the class questions assuming there is someone out there that already knows. accent is easy to understand but how she words things is not always easy. If there is an exam question that it seems like EVERYONE is saying is hard, she will tell you it was easy.
Has accent but still easy to understand. Will answer any questions thoroughly. Overall a solid teacher.
Very upbeat and makes lectures interesting; however, her handwriting is terrible and the midterms and final are hard. Told my class there would be a curve at the end of the quarter but it never happened.
she knows her stuff, but she's really scatter-brained and annoyingly happy and hyper sometimes, plus her accent is rough... i skipped all her lectures after the first week or two and just used patrickjmt.com to learn everything, and i got an A. honestly, just skip.
She really keeps the class interesting and tries to get everyone involved and get excited about learning. I would definitely recommend this class to other students.
She is so funny. Make the materials easy to learn and moderate amount of homework to do.
Although Aboughazi is a bit difficult to understand at times, this was the easiest math course I have taken at OSU thus far. If you struggled in 151/152, this will be cake in comparison. I missed 9 points on the final with little (4 hours) studying. This was her first time teaching the course, so there was lots of HW with no quizzes. Book=necessity
She was so nice and happy, which was cool since it was an 8am math class, but I could not understand a word she said. She liked to skip steps when working problems out on the board because the were obvious to her, but I was completely lost. She says there's a curve at the end of the semester, and I really hope that's true because I'm failing.
Extremely scatterbrained and challenging to understand. Can't always read her writing. Happy and bubbly and she knows her stuff but I just couldn't understand her.
Teacher is very knowledgeable and eager to teach. Depending on the topic and individual person, lecture can be skipped. I relied on my TA a lot because I fell asleep whenever I did go to lecture. She's a good GE teacher and explains each math problem thoroughly. Book HW is not required, Online Hw is but it is very easy.
She was AWESOME. I quit going to my scheduled lecture and started going to hers because she was so much better. Yeah, she can be hard to understand at times because of her accent but it's something minor you'll get used to. TAKE HER AS YOUR MATH PROFESSOR.
Very clear and extremely helpfull. A+++
A little hard to understand at times, but a very entertaining teacher. She knows what she is talking about and is willing to help and always answers emails.
She makes the class at 8 A.M. somewhat interesting with a good personality and explains the concepts well. Goes through problems slowly enough to understand and answers questions asked very well. A great teacher recommended for any Math Class. Her accent you get used to very fast and it does NOT distract at all from the class
Works hard to make sure the majority of the lecture understands, works through the problems, answers any raised hand. If you go to class and pay attention(no phone/laptop) then you should do fine. Her accent is easy to understand didn't really bother me on the first day either.
Unclear and confusing, but very nice and helpful one on one.
She is quirky and funny. Class isn't hard at all. Study the day of the evening test and you'll do at least as good as me. Make good use of textbook. Exams are dept. wide so don't judge her based on how hard the exams are.
She is totally awesome! She may be a bit difficult to understand at first, but I think she is a great teacher overall. She is very interested in how her students do, and she makes goofy but funny jokes all the time. I loved her!
She is a good professor, however she is hard to understand and scatterbrained at times.
She is funny and makes jokes to keep you entertained. All her lectures are online, so missing class isn't a problem. Notes are a MUST to understand the information. She can be hard to understand but lecture is always packed with people because she gives good examples and is a great teacher, if you take 1150, take her!
Exams were hard but she's a good lecturer. Accent is not terrible at all. The exams are department-wide, so I got screwed over on those. Will likely end up with a B- or C+. Do the homework. 80% is all you need to get full credit on homework and quizzes. She really does not want her students to fail.
This class was really easy, and I am not gifted in math. I usually do not do well in math courses. Her lectures are so clear I did not have to study. I reviewed for a couple hours before the midterms and everything made sense. Take her class but do not miss lectures. She posts lectures on carmen, but you need to be there because she goes in depth.
She's a sweet lady and I like her as a person, but I could not understand her most of the time she talked. Most people ended up skipping her class every day because she put her notes online, and those are easier to understand than her voice. However, the class is easy, just actually do the book homework. It helps a lot.
You can barely understand a word she says. When you do understand her, you realize she literally takes the hardest route to explain a simple topic. Why? No clue. Even if you've taken pre-calc before, good luck. She's confusing.
Everyone says she is hard to understand.. however I could understand her accent just fine. There is a lot of material so it may seem very difficult at times, but she is always wanting and willing to help so that everyone can succeed.
Her accent is a little tough to understand but not impossible. Her lectures are long but very thorough when going through the material. I thought she was a very good teacher and I would take her again.
Aboughazi prepares you well for the exams, which are made by the department. She's a good teacher and just wants the best for her students. Some say her accent is hard to understand, but I had no problem.
Her accent is really not that hard to understand. At 8am however, this lecture is extremely boring and she can be quite sassy sometimes. Math 1152 is not too difficult for the majority of the class except for one month working on series. Tests are standardized by the math department as well as in class and take home quizzes.
She seems nice in person, but annoyed when approached for help. Her mind seemed all over the place at times. Lecture was hard to focus in, because the way things were explained seemed confusing to me. I mostly use youtube to help me. On the bright side, the test are straight forward and there's no trick questions.
Although she is hard to understand at times she is a great teacher. She really made sure that students understood what was going on and also enjoyed the subject. The textbook is only really necessary if you plan on doing the problems in it, but the access code that comes along with it is mandatory
I am in no way a math wiz, but I got an A in this class. Dr. Aboughazi has an accent but I had no trouble understanding her. She kept my attention and was more than willing to answer questions. She likes class participation. As long as you go to lecture, do the homework, and get help when needed, you will have no problems with this class.
Her accent isn't hard to understand. Clearer than my previous calc professors and somehow her lectures don't seem as long or boring.
She is good. Not great but good. Lectures are long but not too painful if you have your computer or phone. Just do the online homework and take notes. She goes very slow so it easy to follow along. Her accent is annoying at first but after the first week you just don't care anymore and her notes are there to help when you can't understand.
Goes quickly in lecture, but posts her notes on Carmen so you can access them there later if you miss something. Didn't use the physical textbook much. She has an accent, but she's easy to understand.
I am currently taking math 1150 and so far she is a very good lecturer. I learn much better in a standard environment and she has very clear lectures that explain her whole thought process for each problem. This means that her lectures are very fast paced but you should pay attention to these because they are vital to the class. Accent is no probl
Can't understand her very well, never went to lecture and still did well
She is a wonderful professor! I took Pre-Calc in high school (junior year) and didn't take a math senior year. I didn't remember a lot of the pre-calc stuff I learned, but I put the time into the class that was necessary and ended up with an A. Even though its not required, go to recitation and do the practice problems! They're both super helpful.
Professor Aboughazi knows what she's doing. She has an accent which took a little getting used to but not hard to understand. She's always more than willing to answer questions if you contact her. Really a sweet lady if you get to know her too! Do the review problems on the course page and thats basically the exams.
She is constantly trying to get people involved with the lecture, by asking questions. She has an accent, but is very easy to understand. She is a sort of motherly figure, and is very knowledgeable. I never absolutely dreaded attending. Definitely attend lecture, it will help immensely.
Dr. Aboughazi was a wonderful and quirky Math 1150 professor. She does have an accent but it's really easy to understand. She is knowledgeable about the material and was very good at explaining everything. Not too difficult because there are clear things you can do to help yourself understand the material. I suggest doing book problems.
Sometimes has no idea what she is even talking about, gets sidetracked very easily and although her accent is not hard to understand it caused some confusion when she is explaining things. However the way the class is set up you have some help with the grades, but the tests are heavily weighted and very hard.
Unorganized, hard to follow and understand. Did not prepare students well for quizzes.
It is very hard to understand what she is saying. Even so, she seems to typically find the most complicated way to solve an equation. Recitation is important and where you'll learn the most.
I can't understand what is she talking about during classes. I attended most classes before midterm 2, but I gave up because of her. She doesn't write anything during class but uses her previous lecture notes. Although she uploaded her notes on Carmen, it still be difficult to get an A.
She is a great prof. She's very accommodating and her teaching style is organized.
She seemed nice enough but I found her lectures unclear and unorganized. The book problems helped me prep for the tests but the quizzes were killer because the questions always seemed to be way out of left field. Maybe it's because I had a bad TA, but with this class I had to do a lot on my own.
Dr. Aboughazi clearly cares about math and does her best to explain things well, but lectures became pointless. Her notes are posted online and she just explains them in her lectures. If you have questions, feel free to go to the lectures, but recitation is more beneficial.
Dr. Aboughazi is a charming woman who lectures well. She is good at breaking things down and always put the abstract concepts in understandable context. She is fairly easy-going, and likes to joke around a bit. She also has an accent but it never once got in the way of my understanding. I like math, so I may be biased, but her course was enjoyable.
Dr. Aboughazi was very prepared and on schedule. She cared about her students and always finished material on time. If you do all of the practice problems and practice midterms you will do okay on exams. The first exam is hard, second easy, third medium and the final is hard.
Didn't go to lecture--she just posted all the lecture notes on Carmen and I wrote them down and studied them from there. Nice lady, did not find lecture very useful. Found that many people had the same experience, but I still recommend going the first few weeks to see for yourself.
Nice lady, but blows through lecture material like you already know it, and then immediately posts the notes online. Total waste of time going to lecture when Khan Academy videos teach the material, and you have a recitation.
Great lecture style- gave info in easy-to-understand pieces and did example problems solved during lecture. Receptive to questions during lecture. Class is hard (taylor series) but she/math dept. made sure to give us a list of things to know for test. Prof. also gave a self-made guide before exams in addition to study guide given by the department.
I had to drop this class initially and she was WAY better than my previous guy. She organizes her notes in a way that clearly outlines different examples and she knows what she's doing. Really listen to her tips and tricks!!! This is a difficult class so make sure you are doing the PRACTICE WORKSHEETS and PRACTICE EXAMS!!!
What a woman. She is hilarious and a great lecturer. I'm not the best at math and she made 1150 a lot easier for me
As far as math goes, this prof is actually pretty great. I have trouble paying attention in math and enjoying professors, but she does a really good job teaching what she does, despite the dry subject matter.
Super nice, but quickly blows through lectures, and posts the notes online after class. After the first 4 weeks, I stopped showing up every single day because I actually learned more from my TA during recitation than I did in lecture.
Sweetest woman in the world! Her lectures were okay, attendance is not mandatory but it helps to listen. Recitation definitely taught more than lecture. She puts up plenty resources to do well on tests, the exams have the exact types of problems in the practice exams and quizzes. If you still feel shaky, do the homework.
The professor was not bad, but it was not a great learning environment. The ideas were scattered and out of order making class hard to understand and easy to zone out. Overall not a bad professor and cares about what she is teaching. I would recommend going to office hours and asking questions there.
Always flies through the lectures expecting everyone to understanding everything ahead of time. Does not respect students questions and concerns and gives no insight as to what is to be expected on the test. Disgraceful.
This was the second class I took with her and would take another any day! Shes a fair grader and youre more heavily weighted by homeworks than exams and quizzes. The criteria for an A is 90.
Shes okay. But make sure to do a lot of practice on your own.
I didnt mind the lecturer herself, it was just the fact that class was online. Exams were on a program called Connect Math, and you typed your final answer with no way to show your work. This made exams challenging because you couldnt get partial credit for your work. If it was in person, Id recommend this professor.
I am taking this class during the COVID pandemic so everything is online. I fell behind in all my classes for various personal life reasons. She is the only professor that did not allow me to catch up on my work despite me describing my situation to her. She has absolutely no sympathy for her students and I recommend no one takes her classes ever.
Had her for my precalc class last semester, I haven't taken a math class in over a year but it was fine. Really tho, it was my TA that saved me learning wise. Her lectures are a little all over the place but she is super nice. Grades are worth 60% of your grade so as long as you do the review you should be good.
She genuinely cares about her students, and I am sure that the majority of the assignments and amount of exams were determined by the math dept- not her. Here notes could be confusing and I found her lectures to not be super engaging, but if you attend, participate, and really try on your homework (which should be an easy A), you will be fine!
She is actually caring, and an easy class. If you watch her lectures and do online homework then it's an easy A.
Lectures are a joke no one shows up because she is so bad at teaching online. The exams on connect math are made up of questions she's not even aware of when you ask she won't know how many questions are on it. If you miss a single question on the connect math exam's your grade drops by a letter each question. Do not recommend this professor.
Very poor lectures that don't help at all I have self taught my way through this entire class. Can't believe she is a professor it seems like she has no background in teaching at all. Homework is not bad and is often helpful because you work with a partner. The exams are terrible many questions are things that are not even reviewed.
If she was teaching calc or higher this would be a nightmare. Only 12 people show up to lectures and the first one had 170ish. Her notes are unreadable and you cant understand her. Trig is easy but I would avoid if you struggle with the content because she cant teach.
dont be fooled by her high rating, she is a terrible math teacher. notes are extremely unprofessional and looks like doodle bob wrote them instead. accent heavy so you cant understand her. people slander sherry but you will be begging for sherry after this class. besides eric the TA's are pretty bad and not eduan level overall a downgrade from 1148
Class was disorganized and to have someone sing to you about trig at 8 am and then not answer questions was interesting. Did not have office hours, would not reccomend this teacher
The class was unorganized, and the professor was very confusing. She didn't even post office hours. Recitation TA's are the only way to learn anything. Would never and will never have her again.
She is very hard to follow and does not teach Trig in the most easy way to understand. I have no Pre-Calc background and my saving grace was my TA: Eric Fawcett. I learned more from him than from the professor. Not a bad professor just needs to improve on communication.
She is a terrible professor, very accent heavy and does not explain things clearly at all. She moves through topics incredibly fast in her lectures and does not answer questions but instead tells students she has no idea what they are talking about. Only way to learn anything is a TA and mine was terrible as well.
Rachida is a nice person, but she doesn't speak English or teach very well. Also her lectures were very hard to follow. I had her for PE calc and the class was easy and I really didn't even attend the lectures at all.
Aboughazi's lectures were often hard to understand and to complete my own notes I often had to reference the textbook to make sense of what she was saying. I relied more on my TA toward the end of the semester to learn the material.
By far one of the most disorganized math teachers I have ever encountered. She jumps from topic to topic with little explanation and her notes look like a 10 year old wrote them (literal chicken scratch). While her class is by no means hard, if you actually want to learn pre-calc material TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSORS course.
She isn't the greatest, but she isn't the worst either. I took this class online, and her lectures were very boring and disengaging, not sure how she translate to in person lectures. Every lecture was recorded so you don't have to attend. If you pay attention and do the homework, you'll pass easily, but that can be difficult to do at times.
She post lecture videos and notes from each lecture on carmen. The notes were a little lacking but overall good prof. Weekly homework assignments and quizzes that aren't that hard (sometimes they did take more time than necessary). If you review the material from the homework and ask your TA what would be on the quiz you will do well.
She's a pretty decent instructor. Sometimes the lectures were hard to follow, but every time I asked her a question, she would answer it well. It is boring to watch the lectures, but they are somewhat important to pass the class. This class was lectures 3 days a week, recitation 2 days a week, and you have normally one homework and one quiz per wk.
Notes were extremely helpful for me, lectures not so much. I would often work on my own problems and have the lecture on in the background. However she is great at being upbeat and answering questions, genuinely wants you to succeed.
Goes through material rather slowly but is thorough, and lectures are recorded so you can go through them later at your own pace. References the book minimally but is is easily accessible online. Professor always tries to interact with students
Not the worst professor, not the best. The course content was well outlined and explained. All her notes are in her handwriting and can be very confusing. The way she explains things can be difficult to understand. I probably did so well because of how well my high school math teachers prepped me.
Her lectures were frustrating because her notes were messy, she talks very scatterbrained and her accent makes her harder to understand at times. She struggles with technology and spent a lot of class time figuring out technical problems over zoom. Top it off with her singing at 9AM and I stopped attending the lectures.
She's horrible, has a heavy accent. Could not understand her at all. DO NOT TAKE HER AT ALL COSTS. Exams were online, and quizzes were in recitations. Exams and quizzes were very difficult. Her notes were very sloppy. I did not learn anything from her. You have to teach yourself everything. There is no extra credit. Homework was also online & hard
Terrible. Just terrible. Only thing saving you is online quizzes & exams. Because she cannot lecture.
Rough class and she was no help. Her notes don't make sense and she doesn't explain anything well. Do NOT take her class unless you already know trig or if it's absolutely necessary.
This class sucked. The lectures would not work half the time and she would not check the chat that is telling her that it isn't working.
She was nice, but not a good lecturer at all. her lectures were all online and were very boring. She doesn't speak very good English which made it hard to follow. By the end of the semester I was not attending lecture and teaching myself out of the homework and textbooks which you are required to purchase.
not a good lecturer. all she does is draw arrows and circle prewritten notes. you do not need to show up to class, but I recommend going to recitation. don't get me wrong, she is very sweet, but personally not my favorite professor/way of learning. 3 exams (1 is a final) that are multiple-choice, and some homework assignments in connect math.
Rachida is a very sweet and kind individual, who is eager to help her students when they don't understand material. I recommend taking a blended course with half days with a TA, since her class is very fast-paced and it helps to have someone in between to slow things down.
I was super scared going into this semester just because Ive heard diff eq is a nightmare universally; I never would have thought that I could end the class with an A-! Lecs both online and in-person, homework isnt awful (it is group hw though), and exams/quizzes are fair. Plus, if you do well on the last three quizzes, you wont have a final ;)
Hard to understand and goes off on random tangents.
She loves to say the number trillion and she makes no sense whatsoever. She is so confusing. Good luck.
Lectures were 90% practice problems, so you definitely have to read the textbook and teach the chapters to yourself to actually learn the material. Lecture notes not organized super well and could be difficult to understand. Grades mostly based on recitation quizzes and online exams.
She knows what she's doing, however, lectures tend to get boring. Wants students to succeed so if you do your work, you will get an A. There are quizzes every week, 3 exams (including the final), and 1 homework a week.
She grades literally nothing, the TA's grade every assignment. One time she put in an online Carmen quiz answer wrong and said it was only one point and she won't fix it as it doesn't matter because it was too much work to fix everyone's grade. She doesn't really care. If you're decent at math going into the class you're fine. Ask your TA for help.
Lectures are too hard to read and she doesn;t explain topics literally just solves the problems and expects you to put two and two together. She is a very nice person but a very bad teacher!!
Professor Aboughazi is so sweet and gives plenty of examples during lecture
Lectures can be boring, but there are shortened video forms of the lecture material posted for the entire semester. Doesn't move on until someone provides an answer to her question, she does not answer her own questions typically. Pretty easy to follow notes.
I thought she was fairly good at explaining concepts and included helpful examples as well as provided multiple practice problems for each exam. The weekly quizzes were kind of annoying but doable.
Dr.Aboughazi is a wonderful person, but her class is difficult. It was 80% exams/quizzes and 20% homework. There was no curve, but 1 quiz and 2 HW's were dropped and there was no cumulative final. Lectures could be very scattered/confusing, but the homework examples on the online platform help a lot. General physics knowledge may help as well.
I took Calc 3 2153 and learned nothing from going to her lectures, her accent made it so hard to understand. Her PDF of notes was the only thing I learned from. Exams were kind of out of pocket/not what I expected. When you got 2-3 of the MC questions wrong brought the exam grade down a letter grade. She was friendly though and wanted us to learn.
She was a really average professor, to be honest. She definitely wasn't a bad professor, but she wasn't great either, she's just middle of the road. Lectures can be boring and also hard to understand because of her accent, although you do get used to it.
The lectures can be hit or miss, but using resources like Unstuck study AI alongside the textbook makes it doable. Grading is mostly based on quizzes and exams, so staying on top of the material is key. Overall, an average class.
I have personal beef with Rachida. She told us we had to memorize 22 formulas for an exam, not wanting to fail I did, and forgot to mention she decided to provide them. Her homework includes a lot of information that we never go over bc she doesn't make them. She he cancels class but fails to let us know, and talks to us like children.
Her lectures weren't helpful to me at all as her handwritten notes were difficult to read and understand. Pretty much stopped going to lectures and taught myself using the textbook. She's a nice person but just not a very good teacher. She does cancel class a lot and there are extra credit opportunities.
I really like the layout of this course. I highly recommend doing the pre-lecture extra credit quizzes immediately after class, because they really help and take 5 minutes to do. The exams were super easy, mostly multiple choice, and the difficulty of the exam questions matched the difficulty of the questions we did in class.
She is very nice, but not a good professor. She has a very strong accent and it his hard to understand, also her notes are the messiest notes I have ever seen and it is hard to follow along. Eventually I just stopped going to lectures because it did not help me at all. I would teach myself through the textbook.
A lot of people complain about her accent, but it honestly isn't that heavy. Her office hours are a great resource, and while it's pretty test heavy it's not the end of the world if you do bad on one exam. Uploads online lectures so that you can choose to go or not go to class, and attendance isn't mandatory for recitation or lecture.
Can't understand her, recitation teacher was also awful, her notes are messy and unhelpful. If you want to pass this class ypu have to read the text book on your own. I did tutoring and still failed. Also homework is the hardest part of the class.
She is hard to understand because of her accents. Lectures are her just talking about her pre-written notes. I never went to the lectures and did the notes myself and got an A. The class isn't horrible as long as you study well for the tests and quizzes. Not that many assignments.
Her teaching style was very confusing and I really struggled to understand the material in lectures. Exams are nothing like the practice problems she recommends. Not sure why I can do the homework without struggle but manage to do poorly on the exams. You don't know what's on the exams and they're 70% of your grade. Good luck.
This class has 3 exams, but the final is not cumulative over the whole year just the newest stuff and then like the first 6 lessons. The lecturer is hard to understand but she records all the lectures so you don't have to go to class. There are 3 quizzes in recitation, and lowest one gets dropped. Felt the content was duable and easy to get help.
The last third of the class is much harder than the beginning two thirds, so be prepared. Fine professor. Permitted use of a one-sided formula sheet on the exams.
Exams were 70% of the overall grade, but they are not trying to trick you and I was able to get 90%+ on all without going to many lectures. All lecture notes are on carmen. Allows a 1 sided cheat sheet for each exam which is helpful. Has a very thick accent but you get used to it. Make sure to do the homework.
Solid. Exams allow cheat sheet. 70% of your grade is from tests. Do practice problems, pay attention in class and you're chilling with an A honestly.
Very passionate about work but sometimes difficult to understand. However, her grading system is modified, which is honestly great. She also allows for a one page cheat sheet on exams which was soooo helpful.
Professor Aboughazi is a wonderful person; very kind and overall a good person. When it comes to her online lectures, she doesn't do a great job of explaining what she's talking about, and the topics can become very confusing. Thankfully, the quizzes and exams are okay, but you'd be better off teaching yourself the concepts from YouTube or Khan.
I feel like you have the best shot at a good performance in this course if you took Pre Calc in high school and are retaking it. Professor is very sweet and passionate, but has a heavy accent that can make her difficult to understand. Her lectures are very thorough. If you set your mind to it, you can definitely get by
I have a bone to pick with the grade weighting. Exams are worth so much and there are only three, meaning you'd have to do relatively well to get a good grade in the class. Despite the homework and extra credit I did, it did not improve my grade. Stopped going to lectures because they got boring. TA was way more helpful and learned more from them.
The class is pretty test heavy but if you practice you'll be fine. Lecture videos are online so lecture isn't mandatory. Overall not a hard class or professor just do a lot of the practice problems in the textbook, the quizzes and exams are very similar to them.
Genuinely horrible course. The exam questions are so different from the questions done both in lecture and recitation. unorganized notes+ lectures. First exam class average was failing, in order to get an A I had to study so much even though I did pre-calc and calc in HS.
This course is so poorly set up it is all based on two exam grades which are nothing like the actual material that was covered during lectures. All the provided extra work, like the textbooks and recitation problems did not help prepare you for the exams. She refuses to curve the exam grades despite the entire class failing.
Absolutely horrible lecturer, very thick accent, teaching style was extremely unorganized and hard to follow, she goes off on a lot of tangents, overcomplicates easy topics. Notes are prewritten, she just draws arrows and circles all over them during lecture. I stopped going to lecture about two months in, relied on my TA and did fine.
Do not take her class. If you struggle with accents you will not understand anything during lecture or will have to decipher what she is saying in her recordings. There are barley any tests and your grade in a way is solely dependent on these tests. During lectures she gets off topic and the textbook and TA are more help than her.
Difficult course material made nearly impossible by a professor who is not only very difficult to understand due to a thick accent, but who does little to set her students up for success. Homework is difficult and made up of problems you would never see on the exam.
The lectures got confusing due to poor notes and her accent so there were a lot of concepts I had to teach myself. If you have to take this lecturer be mindful of how many tests and quizzes there are in the semester.
