ouch.
Knows his stuff, a little too much.Makes the concepts hard for students to grasp
expects perfection but can't even perfectly do quadratic equations
Stay away! Very far away!
A complicated man, perhaps nobody understands him but his woman(Radha Gupta)
The expectation from students is too high when there is not enough help.
Wasn't willing to help students. Made material difficult to understand.
She's relly nice, want you to pass. . .but expects too much and isn't very clear
Crazy amount or work required. She is nice lady...tries very hard...
easy tests, but useless to go 2 class he makes no sense but easy to teach urself
Too much work, but that's the nature of the course. She isn't too bad.
Cs is a rediculous requirement for business. You spend hours trying to get these labs done every week not to mention the long assighnmnet every second week and the midterm . which makes your other 5 courses suffer and you still don't get the mark deserved
The expectations for this course are NUTS. Like, 6 hours of work go into a lab submission worth 1%. The course could be better laid out. Gupta seems very grumpy at times as well. If you don't need this course, DON'T TAKE IT!

I am doing the distance section with her... it is awful... the course material is from the ice age of computers... it is 2003 and the material she is teaching on the tapes is from 1999. we are doing windows 2000 but she is teaching us with windows95.idiot
The course is dull, but that's not her fault. She's nice is always willing to help you out if you don't understand something.
Such a Hard Class...not her fault She's really nice....just needs to be fixed. Prepare for the work of 4 other classes for this one she's a doozie boys good luck. You'll need it!
Can not understand, avoid this prof., talks in a series of waves, up and down. Notes are bad, tries to mess you up.
Can not understand, Notes are brutal. Seems nice at time. Failed both this course and husband's busi2401 course. Done them over with different profs. and got 2 X 75%. weird.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!
must be good at research because he is not there to teach
Run away, not helpful, bad overall teacher, no human-like charateristics to him, on a power trip
I don't recommend any student to take this course with this prof. He does know his stuff, but he has a hard time relating it, I guess due to the communication barriers.

I don't know who is worst...him or his wife. Very bad prof. The M/C on his exam and BRUTAL. We had 3 term tests, and he had to raise the marks on all 3. VERY childish by refusing to give you powerpoint notes if you miss class, & won't let you leave class.
Distance ed. Consider lightening up on your course load when you take this course....The work load is substantial. Mrs. Gupta was okay, but don't expect to be spoon-fed. Course material was quite useful.
avoid him if possible
AVOID HIM!!! Class Average always stays in 50s while in the other section it is in 70s.
Exams were brutal, all of them had to be curved. Multiple choice were pointless, he'd have up to 8 possible choices.

Watch out if you come in late or leave early! This teacher does not accept class interruptions even for emergencies.
She is a good prof and u can tell that, its just ppl cant understand that cs is in the most part difficult. The course is a bit of a tricky one with a large work load but what can she do about that shes the 1 who is told to teach it not the 1 who developed it. She is willing to help if u want it.
The course is only for people interested in CS. Everyone else is doomed to fail. She isn't helpful so your only hope is to teach everything to yourself (which is basically every CS course you'll ever do anywayz) If you're lookin for a veg course do CS 1600 :)
This course is deffinetly not an introductory class into computer science, it is for those who have a background in it. If you do, then you should do fine, if not, u'll be like me and probably end up failing
Very hard to understand, not helpful, not very nice
Radha is an awful professor and should be fired
Good course, good prof. But you do need some background if you decide to take CS 1700. If you don't study yourself, you won't be satisfied with your marks and, therefore, the course itself. So, everything is up to you. :)
This prof was not as bad as everyone made her out to be. She knows what she is talking about and teaches it the way it should be done. Yes, the course requires work. But every other course does too! Soo if you actually do the readings, etc. You will do fine!
Will not use a website and only gives out his printed powerpoint notes on one day (throws the extras away- WASTE) Hard to understand sometimes and freaks if you leave class early or show up late. Does not treat students like adults. On the plus side, gives open book tests that are not that hard.
Nice Guy:) knows his material well is aware of his stuff i would recommend to have him if possible:)
Poor Radha.. everyone hates her, but it's only because the course is crap. Radha does a good job, her notes are great, and are in excellent guide for exam study, etc. Assignments are evil and long, but are also helpful when studying for exams... Give her a break, i thought she was good!
Not a bad guy, but the fact that he doesn't give marks for workings on exams is BRUTAL.....I don't know what the rest of the course will be like
Terrible prof teaching a terrible course. this is all you need to know. stay away
if you have no background in computer then this course will be very difficult. Mrs. Gupta is sometimes hard to understand and usually goes through the material very quickly. overall.. not a good teacher for the course.
Mrs. Gupta< thought, was extremely helpful... the course was tough, but she did the best she could when teaching it. She is very understanding of students' issues and will help to the best of her ability.
The course itself is extremely boring. In a class of about 60 only 15-20 showed up. Prof herself just reads the notes so it's uninteresting.
Only giving marks for a correct final answer is brutal! (We never even had to submit our workings!) He blew through the material and then never had a single class over the last 3 weeks of school. Definitely avoid if at all possible.
This course is just dreaded but it has nothing to do with Ms. Gupta. The assignments are really long and detailed. Be prepared to work in this course. Her online resources are a great source to get the assignments done. Exams are difficult.
Worst yet.Material is not hard - but he makes it terrible.Couldnt get 100 on a test with the book in front of you - tests are very unclear. Says he will give formulas - DOESN'T.Worst course yet. AVOID
the worse prof ever. not clear.if you dont have a background of CS , then you will find it difficults to understand with her teaching.teach very fast, dont give you a time to try to think and understand the matreial. Moreover, very very very boring class. beleive me, just avoid her class. dont even think to take her course .she just read the notes.
Just thought I'd drop a line to say Ms. Gupta was a good prof. The course is hard and students find it easy to blame it on the prof sometimes. I found Ms. Gupta to a very nice and sweet lady willing to help.
I consider myself well versed in computers, but I am guessing I will barely pass this course. It's a complicated subject, and not really for the general student. Boring and complex materials at times, not the fault of Mrs. Gupta. Genuinely concerned about her students, and friendly. She seems to be well-prepared with her notes, and knowledgeable
The course was a challenge, and required a great deal of work. However, Ms. Gupta was very helpful and very accomadating. If you don't pass the course, it is not her fault! She will do whatever she can to help.
Worst prof ever!!! The material isn't that hard but the tests are brutal!!! There are so many mistakes on exams and prof just doesn't care. Students lose marks on exams because of prof mistakes and Gupta just doesn't care!! HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!! STAY AWAY!!
Woooooooooooooorst professor ever, she cannt teach anything and only thing she do is read from the slides, which she refuse to share with students. Class time is 1:15 minutes and its like a 1:15 day, Extreeeeeemly booooooooooring. don't ever try to take a course with her.
Holly Molly, taking a course with her like a nightmare no one wakes up and you will be stressed the whole semester. Exams are composed of more than 500 pages of pure studying and exams are very difficult for a 2801 course even a PHD student will find it difficult doing the exam. If u considered taking with her a course you are like going to your wo
This will be a clear message to all students, Dont even think to take a course with this prof. If u r willing to sacrifice ur grade & time and are ready to visit a doctor to be cured from high blood pressure and severe stress then take with her. this course is so hard and this prof make it worse than ever. Undisputed worst prof ever.
this courses is HARD!!!......there is so much stuff it isn't even funny. unless you have to do this course stay away from it!
Useless prof, horrible personality, teaching worst course ever taught in the university. its not that hard students just study 600 pages before exam and tests and her grading systems are more horrible than the content it self. Warning: Stay away from this prof or ur GPA will be destroyed.
This course is really tough, but its not her fault. She is really nice and is extremely helpful when you go to her for help. I recommend going to all of her classes because even though some topics may not make sense right away, over time, it will become more clear. I went to most of the classes and asked for help alot and I ended up doing well.
Not too bad of a prof. She explains stuff well and is friendly.
terrible course and even worse teaching
I'm sick of everyone on this blaming Professor Gupta. The course has alot of material and is a bit difficult at times, yes, but it isn't her fault. Between her and the IA's you can get all the help you need to do fine in this course. If you stopped complaining and actually worked at the course, you'll do fine.
I heard horror stories about this course before I took it, but it was a pleasant surprise! The course has A LOT of material and A LOT of work, especially with a 3 hr lab each week, but it is NOT hard and as long as you work at it, there is no reason why you shouldn't do fine! Ms. Gupta is friendly and her notes are good, class is not manditory!
Single worst prof I have ever had. The course itself isn't all that hard if you do the work, but she, as a teacher, is absolutely awful. Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question, and really isn't approachable at all.
Nice woman but can't teach worth a hoot. Course has useless material which makes it worse.
Worst prof I ever had! Avoid her if at all possible!!! She's so useless! Hard marker, doesn't know how to teach, and dose not answer questions. She also gets extremely defensive if you comment on her teaching style. DO NOT GET THIS PROF!
Worst prof I ever had! Avoid her if at all possible! She's so useless! Hard marker, doesn't know how to teach, and dose not answer questions. She also gets extremely defensive if you comment on her teaching style. Do not get this prof
She clearly presents, and answers my questions clearly...a very useful course...but I had too much work to do in this course
Materials used in class are hard, and mid-term is hard. But final is very easy. So if you didn't perform in mid-term or quizzes, you still could get an A
Total garbage, online lab goes down all the time, course notes all over the place, exam was un-passable. Bottom line is this course should never have been offered via distance.
Avoid taking this course, the distance element makes it harder to get a good grade. If you are responsible, take it.
Try to avoid , it's like she does out of her way to make thiings confusing , class notes have mistake , tests are way too long for the time provided , for me :midterm barely completed on time , and final some questions left unanswered , AVOID AVOID , unless you want a hit to your GPA.
Radha is helpful. Comp sci isn't for everyone, but it really helps to ask questions or get a tutor that can help explain much of the logic in programming.
Get good at using google because you will be asked to do things not covered in the course.
Very poor/Non existent response rate. Someone who has never written a line of code before will fell massively demotivated due to the level of difficulty of the very first assignments and quizzes.
Notes provided from the teacher is not sufficient for the tests and quizzes made, does not cover what you need to know. very slow response time to the point where i would not email. if needed to take google is your best friend since you cant learn much from this teacher. HIGHLY ADVICE TO AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS. demoralizing for future jobs
I find a lot of things I need to google because half the questions weren't in the notes. The quiz's you have to do don't give you enough time and half the time I found myself either not able to finish in time, or after finding out the solution the time exceeded, making it seem like I didn't know what to do, when I actually did.
As a final-year CS student, CS1600 was one of the most challenging courses I've taken. The notes have typos, tests are unorganized and overly difficult, and it's almost like the professor is trying to make your life harder. This is the only course in my entire academic career that I have a chance of failing in, and this is a FIRST-YEAR course.
she is the single worst professor I have ever seen in this department. her final exam was 35 questions, with the last three consisting of 30% of the marks. ofc with no warning. the assignments are completely insane and are worth 4%, the notes have typos in them, it's like she's trying to make you fail. do NOT take her courses, you've been warned!
She gives so much irrelevant theory and is a very bad grader.
It takes talent to be this bad. Took CS1001 with this woman. The name of the course is "Introduction to Programming" but her expectation from students is that of a 3rd year undergraduate student. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
She is the worst prof I ever had at MUN. This is my last semester and I took this course as an easy elective. I have not gotten below A since CS 2002 and I could get B in this one. Avoid her like a plague she is a disaster to a MUN Computer Science depmt.
The worst prof I have ever seen
She gave us many questions in the quiz which we can't even think about the question that the time was too short
Always read Radha's notes when doing the course. Those will help you to understand the concepts well and to get good grades. Could easily get marks until the final exam. Final exam's questions were easy too. But the paper was lengthy. I didn't have time to answer all the questions. Work on your speed. She replies quickly to mails & clears doubts.
It doesn't make sense why Prof Gupta is rated so low. She is the best prof I have ever met; super caring and always ready to help. Even the TA was so nice. If you're taking COMP 1001 with her, get ready to read a lot. But I must say, it was an enjoyable class. You just have to be consistent with your work and you're guaranteed a good grade.
Dr. Gupta does an amazing job in turning what is supposed to be a fun course to a nightmare. While her teaching notes and videos are good to be fair, the design of the exams are below par. She turns excel into test of syntax! What is even worse conceptually!. She obviously belongs to the mainframe generation and needs to be replaced!
Prof. Radha is a dinosaur. Her exams have the mindset of third generation languages. She needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Her evaluation methods lack the University academic level. What a shame.
I don't understand why this silly focus on hlookup, vlookup and index. The objective of the course is to teach the basic concepts and necessary skills. Excel has tooltips and hints when using a function and there is no need to memorize syntax just remember what a function does. I have been programming for years and do not have to memorize!
When tricking becomes a teaching criteria/method to evaluate a University student that is not teaching that is simply tricking! It is a shame after investing in this course timewise and moneywise I get the quality of kindergarten teaching method. This is unfair and is not in good faith. A teacher should lead by example. Lots of mistakes in question
An overkill. Weekly quizzes, 4 assignments, 2 term tests and final. Never met someone who is strong headed like this teacher. Feels like in the army. Paranoid, overly complicated for no good reason. Even on week 13, there is a quiz and units to study. Only teacher I know that does that.
literally an introductory course and you're treated like you have 4 years experience, the teacher truly makes the class in this case!
She is awful. she is not helpful and very rude. she made this course extremely hard. avoid please
Stated in the syllabus that students would not have to use ProctorU depending on location. She then started conflicting the syllabus before the drop deadline and expected everyone to use ProctorU, immediately dropped the course. Not cool for people who have privacy concerns with ProctorU.
First year student, still not done with the course, but i beg you if you want to take comp 1001 as your first programming course and she's the only lecturer, you're better off waiting till you can take one in person.
Almost two weeks to final and still she has not announced what's included in final. It is totally ridiculous that at the time this is an introductory course and has been taught for ages it lacks structure and requires time to decide what to include. Trying to understand what she wants takes more time than writing the code itself.
She's alright, no need to bash her behavior or anything. I wouldn't know anyways considering there isn't a single lecture she's in. Why do we need to use such outdated methods like INDEX and VLookup when tooltips are better? Aren't we supposed to be learning newer computer science that is actually prevalent in the field today? Why?
Doesn't teach at all just refers to some slide notes that doesn't even help. The exam is in a few days and we still haven't gotten the outline
Hides behind her assistant all the time. Her teaching method is absolutely ridiculous. Her class videos and examples does not match with the difficulty of the assignments. Teaches ABC but expects students to write essays. Avoid her at all cost! Take her courses if you want to drop your grades.
Gupta enjoys torturing her students. She waited two weeks prior to the final to announce what is included in the exam which was everything literally and gave us lots of so called practice exercises for the final's last minute, only to find out the exam was mainly focused on 4 units out of the 11! Unbelievable.
not gonna take any of her courses again!!!!
Horrible, she tests on things you haven't done and is horrible at teaching even though SHE DOESN'T. She gets you to read course slides and then you're on your own and those slides will not prepare you for the evaluation
She doesn't teach but requires you to teach yourself and even with that her course slides do not prepare you for the examinations. On top of that she does not grade fairly and uses outdated info/testing. HORRIBLE
If you have some programming background you can do okay in the course. But it is nearly impossible learning on your own with the course material provided. I am at the end of the semester and don't even know what this professor looks like. Very basic communication.
She no good!!!!!!!
The professor is very good. I do not believe in other reviews, I took that course and it was okay for me.
She is the worst prof at MUN. She simply does not care at all. Her notes are archaic, recycled and very lengthy. There are no lecture videos. Her assignments are way too hard for the level of coding being 'taught'. The methods she teaches are useless in modern day coding. She is a dinosaur with no talent for teaching or research.
Radha doesn't care about her students, her system with grading is so bad, she grades one question in the assignment but you have to do all the questions and submit them all and she will pick just one question. And she use for multi-select questions Right minus wrong.
Radha is easily the worst prof at this school. She didn't post a single lecture video all semester and her "teaching" is just showing where to read in the textbook and posting her archaic notes. The assignments were too difficult and she would only grade 2 questions from each one. The exams were worth a combined 82% of the year and none were easy.
Don't take this course if you are a complete newbie in programming. This is a self-learning course which turns out to be very difficult. The professor won't give any lectures or help you. You won't hear much from her during the entire course. The course has 10 quizzes, 5 assignments, 1 mid, and 1 final and they prove hard for beginners.
inferior second-rate second-class unsatisfactory inadequate unacceptable not up to scratch not up to par deficient imperfect defective faulty shoddy amateurish careless negligent dreadful awful terrible abominable frightful atrocious disgraceful deplorable hopeless worthless laughable lamentable miserable sorry third-rate diabolical execrable
Worst professor I've met so far.
Worst prof ever in MUN. I don't know how MUN still kept her as a CS prof lol.
If you have this course GG my friend
Drop this ASAP
Computer Science is the worst department of MUN. And she is one of the worst professors. If you are taking this course, good luck for big L. If you have enough money to waste, take this course. I would donate $2.5K CAD to a charity rather than taking this course. At least, I would get love and well wishes from others.
This professor never existed, it is an online course money making scheme.
The best professor at MUN, amazing lecture notes. If someone doesn't want to study shouldn't blame on professors. Very fruitful class learnings.
This class was a real challenge, but unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Lectures can be dry, but the free textbook is helpful. Stay engaged, use all resources, and you'll make it through - just don't expect much handholding from the prof.
