She is a really great person. Always making jokes in class and shares stuff about herself. If you aren't a resourceful student her class can be difficult. You really have to work for your grade but she gives you the opportunity to do so. She calls her office hours "free tutoring". She's from the east coast so she has that sarcastic humor.
Very sarcastic but deal with it! She is willing to help you out if you go to her office hours! HARD class but again OFFICE HOURS, MAKE USE OF HER PHD KNOWLEDGE. Very good teacher, I like her a lot.
Really bad teacher. She doesn't know how to teach. Lectures are extremely boring, she just read her PPT. 6 exams and one final.
The homework program she uses is really annoying. But you'll tolerate it. She's really is an awesome teacher, and knows the material very well. The tests may seem hard at first but it will get easier. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!She's really helpful. She teaches straight from the book so you don't have to worry about missing a lecture.
Don't take her classes if you can. Take Gary Carroll if you can. She is so mean and helpless.
Never take her. She is unclear, exams are hard, and she acts arrogantly. Her classes are boring and so dull.
She is awesome! The class is pretty hard, but she is extremely helpful in office hours. Go to her office hours, and you will receive a good grade.
She reads straight from the ppt. which are only paragraphs from the book. She never wrote on the board, or did examples. I had to teach myself everything and for attendance to be so mandatory the lectures are a JOKE. Exams are hard and there a lot of them...
Really bad instructor, don't take her
The instructor is very clear and gives you exactly what you need to pass the class. Sure there is time limits on the tests, but it is easily manageable as long as you try to learn the material. The online homework though is a pain and costs an extra $60. She is very helpful and wants to see you succeed, so show up to each class and practice a lot!
Brilliant, but she just reads her ppt's. Basically you listen to her lecture and then you have to teach yourself by studying and through tutors. She doesnt work problems on the board all semester. If your a auditory learner she is your teacher if not, stay away. Awesome as person, suchs as teacher. I expect more from a brilliant Phd chemist =(
She's alright. Incredibly smart, super new teacher though. Because she's good at chemistry and knows all this stuff already, she expects us to learn it after hearing the information once. Told one of her students not to pursue chemistry... She's a great person and she's incredibly fun but she's got some improving to do when it comes to teaching.
Napoleon teaches my Chemistry 155 lab this semester. Must say, she is always hilarious and a really fun person to be around, both in and out of the classroom.
Honestly this class is not that hard if you show up and pay attention. The test questions pretty much come straight from the review she gives you so do those a couple times and you'll get an A! Her office hours are very helpful and she goes over anything you don't understand until you get it. Definitely take her if you can!
I honestly love this teacher! I am not the smartest person ever but I put in the effort and received an A. All her test questions come from the study guide so do them over three times it may seem like a lot but its worth it and go to her office hours she is VERY helpful. The first test is scary but they get easier as you get the hang of it
She doesn't keep class engaging at all but grades attendance. She doesn't write any of the homework or the final. Her rubric makes no sense (the final is worth less than the tests). She is extremely unhelpful if you need help in the class. She won't curve tests even though most of the class failed.
Napoleon is great! The material is hard, but the test questions come straight from the review so do them over until you understand them and I guarantee you'll get an A. Her office hours are extremely helpful and she'll help you until you get it. Not to mention she's funny and makes chem so much easier to learn!
She is really fun and her personality is out there, she gets a little nerdy but she has a great appearance. She wears Notorious B.I.G t-shirts (dope). If you go to her office hours she is down to help you out. Beware: Do not ask her a dumb question in class. Pay attention and do all the homework. Her tests are really easy if you do the book work.
Napoleon is a chiller. She knows what she is talking about and is willing to help you. But if you ask a question in class more than once she does get a little mad. SO PAY ATTENTION. Her office hours will save your butt. She is super open about her life too, so it makes class pretty chill. Do the homework, the tests are made from them.
Great professor, she's fun and she takes time to focus on areas where the class struggles. She knows how to use a computer so she posts a lot of helpful stuff on Moodle and the grades go up quick. The tests are hard so study for those. The final was easy and it only covers the material emphasized in the class.
Had a different teacher for the lecture, but had Napoleon for lab and she literally saved everybodys grades. She made everything so easy, explained everything, despite the disorganization of the lecture professor, and helped a ton. Lab was really easy and chill. She helped us study for tests, and everything! Definitely take her!!!!!
She goes out of her way to make you feel dumb when you ask her a question even in her office hours You have to rely on tutors to teach you everything She makes dumb illwitted jokes instead of teaching she is arrogant and never lets you forget she has a phd and yet she cannot teach anybody she will skip over sections the class is having trouble with
Unbelievably brilliant and very fair with grading...super entertaining and so funny. She has a gift of making chem palatable...like a magic chef. She knows each student by name and engages with her audience. Great sport with all the loser hecklers too-a tough job. Her enthusiasm for a dry subject is noble and much needed. BRAVO Dr. Napoleon!
Dr. Napoleon is one of the best professors I have had at SBCC. Not only is she fun and outgoing, but she is also a great young professor. She can relate to students and real life and always applies this to her lectures. YOU MUST TAKE HER! She made going to class and lab extremely fun! (which is hard to do with chemistry)Cant say enough about her
Great teacher. Very helpful when I needed it and she was very personable. She went out of her way to make sure I succeeded. Do be mindful though at times her cheerful attitude will make you forget she's human and on a bad day she might make you think otherwise. But she's human after all. Do all of the homework and the tests will be easy!
Laughs at your questions and doesn't give study guides. Impossible to prepare for her tests because she just assigns busy work out of the textbook. There isn't even an outline of any kind for the final! No extra credit opportunities given. Talks a lot about herself. I wouldn't recommend taking her unless you are extremely talented in chemistry.
One of the best teachers I have ever had! She gives you everything you need to pass her class including power points and lecture recordings. During office hours she's more than happy to help if you're struggling. Study guides only for the first few tests but do the book work because the tests are straight from there! Super friendly and relatable!
Dr. Napoleon was a great teacher. She gives you all the necessary tools to be successful. Like any science class you need to put in some time and work yourself and you can easily be successful. I thought she did a great job of providing sufficient examples and explanation for every topic.
Dr Napoleon is the BEST Professor! Wicked Funny, Brilliant. She is aware of the struggles & fears students have towards chem. Keeps students engaged & uses everyday examples to help students better understand concepts. No homework, there are "suggested problems"(TREAT as HW). Very approachable in office hours and emailing for extra help. TAKE HER!
Napoleon is a great professor. Puts 110% of herself into the class. She is always available to her students. Makes class fun & keeps her students engaged. Do "suggested problems" & the problems from lecture & you will do fine on exams & quizzes. The negative reviews must be from students that didn't put in the work & didn't earn a passing grade.
Not only is Dr. Napoleon an awesome person, she's also an awesome prof! Takes the most complex things&breaks them down for everyone to understand. She's very approachable& if you do your part, she'll do everything to help you. She will make you a science fanatic &if you're lucky you may end up getting pizza&Popsicles.. What more could you want?
An excellent teacher!!! She loves teaching chemistry which makes it that you want to take all of her classes! She goes out of her way to help her students and will send pizza to study groups (super awesome)! She is always there to help and will take the time to explain anything if you have questions. She also does give study guides! Super job!
Dr. Napoleon was such a great professor!!! She is very passionate about chemistry which made her class very enjoyable. I never liked chemistry before, but after taking her class I LOVE chemistry! She gives out a lot of suggested problems, which help a lot when studying for the tests! Her class is one of the best classes I've taken at SBCC!
Dr. Napoleon will be the first to admit she is not a pro at explaining things, but she will do everything to help you understand a concept. Chem can be a tough subject, but if you want this class to be a breeze: use the textbook, do the homework, and hang out with her in office hours. She's funny, intelligent, and passionate, take this class!
Napoleon makes chem so interesting and exciting, she is literally so hilarious. Class was way harder than I expected but you really just have to stay on top of the work. She gives you lots of chances to bring your grade up with participation points, quizzes, extra credit. Just do the practice problems! def recommend her.
This class is honestly not that difficult if you're not the lazier than a damn jar of molasses. She friggin' gives you a list of problems per chapter to study in order to ace each test. It's so simple. She also has a ton of office hours and often holds review sessions before exams. Stay on top of it and there may even be some pizza in it for you!
Dr. Napoleon is awesome! She kept me interested in chemistry and made me want to come to lecture all the time. Very nice, funny and easy going. I got an A from just studying the practice problems she gives and attending every lecture and lab. Never went to office hours because everything is explained in lecture. Very easy if u DONT MISS LECTURE!
Dr. Napoleon is a very active and energetic teacher with a great personality and understanding of science. Yes you will have to work for an A, but it is very rewarding when you achieve it, would recommend her to anyone, and i wish there were an option to give two chili peppers.....
She was an interesting/fun teacher. But her graders/ lab professor (Klaus) are a joke. I got a whole point taken off of a lab experiment for not wearing goggles after he said it was ok we did not wear goggles. Likewise, I had a math error on my exam (I mean, simple math) and I got over half of the 8 point question wrong. BE MORE STUDENT FRIENDLY!!!
Ok, I get it. She's young and funny. Sadly, these things don't matter when it comes to science. Everything I've learned to get by in this class has been from Khan. When she's not telling jokes, she spends lecture lightly glossing over general ideas; then we're quizzed on detailed problems. You have to be willing to teach yourself to pass this class
Did well in the class, no thanks to her at all. She does not DO anything. Gives less than 1hr to do LONG exams (4+final) bcause of HER not being prepared, she is rude when you ask for ANY help. Lectures on book material word for word, material isn't difficult but you still end up screwed. laughable. might as well not have a teacher, NOT ENOUGH TIME
She's a great professor, the fact that she loves what she teaches and is excited to educate us on it makes a big difference. If you study the material she tells you too, and read the book, you should do well on the exams. The only thing is I feel like you don't get enough time to take the exams (1 hour tops). Other than that, her class is very fun!
She has great humor and is very intelligent, but I would not have chosen her as a teacher had I known how rude she could be and how little time she gives for very detailed exams. I rarely got below an A on any quiz or lab assignment, but could never get above a C on exams. As exams are a large % of your grade, this was upsetting all semester long.
She knows quite a bit, made lectures engaging, and she definitely has a passion for Chem but wasn't very helpful when approached with individual questions. She did regularly encourage students to come to office hours for help. I wouldn't advise skipping a lecture.
Do not skip class, you WILL fall behind. The lectures are awesome, she is super funny & smart. The tests are tough & you have to work for your grade. Online quizzes every week or 2. Do not enroll if you are just gonna drop it because a lot of people need the class for their major & the class always ends up half empty because of dropped students.
Funny, very smart!
She is great! She keeps the whole class awake and excited to learn!
Class is easy and she presents the material clearly. She's pretty entertaining and engaging, or enough to keep me awake at least. Some of the grade is participation in class so best not to miss a class. Gives a tone of extra credit. Went to class and did the labs and online quizzes, didn't do homework or study, and it was an easy A.
Napoleon is the best. I wish she could teach all my classes. She assigns homework problems that are only for your benefit (i used them as test prep and they really helped). Tests are really straight forward and she goes over questions during lecture so you know what will be on the test. I dont like chem at all and now i want to be a chem major lol
I am not a math/science type of person and I was dreading taking this class but Napoleon turned out to be my very favorite teacher. When she explained things that I had always thought were hard/abstract concepts she made them sound immediately clear and obvious and she is super understanding and realistic.
Napoleon is funny and engaging. I never took chemistry in high school & I'm not good at math. Chemistry is hard, but she really helped make the class passable. Weekly quizzes are online & helpful. My only complaint: the homework/"study guide" questions she assigns are SIGNIFICANTLY EASIER than the ones on the actual exam. Extremely frustrating.
Tough class, but fascinating. Napolean was great.
Napoleon is amazing! She gives clear lectures and will take lots of extra time to answer questions in class. She tells great jokes and is really patient with people who are struggling. Do the homework, even tho it is optional, because it REALLY helps with the tests. I also recommend her Nanoscience and Ethics class its way easier than it sounds!
Very fun and funny professor. She is definitely a VISUAL BASED TEACHER. This is very nice for the vast majority of students (this is coming from an Auditory learner). She moves step by step through everything. Very clear, but doesn't always explain Why, and What it means. For an intro class, Awesome Professor - Can't go wrong here.
Nanoscience in Society is a very enriching class. Dr. Rae is a talkative professor who doesn't pretend she knows everything on nano. When she doesn't know the answer to something she is more than willing to find it. This lead to lively discussions that were based on readings from books, and articles chosen by the students. She likes to tell jokes!
she is really awful teacher, she thinks she is really smart but she is not she is really rude
I hated chemistry until I took Dr. Napolean's class. She gave the best lectures and is very passionate about chemistry. The class was difficult, but if you do the work you will get an A.
She is a dope teacher. Despite the class being hard, she makes it enjoyable. She is funny and he lectures make a lot of sense. 10/10 would recommend her as a chem teacher.
If you suck at math, like I do, I recomend finding a club or tutor from the begining. I would stay on top of homework/understanding theories from the very start, as concepts build off of early foundations and will become super confusing if the basics are misunderstood.
Napoleon is amazing. Chemistry is NOT my strong suit nor something that Im very interested in- that being said, she really engages her students and sparks interest. Wouldve liked less political views pushed onto growing minds especially in a chem class but thats literally the only thing I didnt like about her class. Definitely a great professor
Dr. Napoleon is literally one of the best teachers I have ever had. Chem is a difficult subject if you haven't had any experience with it, and she makes hard concepts clearer. DO THE HOMEWORK PROBLEMS IN THE BOOK! They're optional but are extremely important if you want to pass the test. Love her teaching style and her personality.
Best teacher for CHEM 101! She's understanding/funny. As long as you put in the effort/show up to class it's easy to pass. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND USE THE FREE TUTORING!! She posts practice tests/problems from the book online so if you study those you'll do fine. Attendence is worth 10% of your grade via clicker questions so go to class.
Dr. Napoleon is a great professor, but chem in general is a hard class. Her lectures are ok, its fine to miss most of them, the slides are online and you can read the textbook for the information. The only important thing to know for tests is equations. Labs are easy, most you can do before hand and turn them in when you get there.
Dr. Napoleon is an amazing professor and always wants you to do your best. There are 4 exams and a final. The quizzes are all online and take about 2-3 hours to finish. This class requires so much of your time and dont fall behind readings and make sure you practice the end of chapter problems!!!
Dr. Napoleon was a great professor. She's brilliant, accessible, and does everything to ensure her students' success. It is imperative that you take advantage of all of the resources she gives you. Her tests are difficult, but do the homework and stay caught up with everything- you will be fine. She made a hard subject like chem enjoyable.
Napolean is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's one of those teachers that actually care about what they are teaching and she cares so much about her students. She keeps lectures as simple as she can, answers any questions, and makes you laugh a lot. 4 exams and a final but do the practice problems and free tutors and you'll get an A!
The easiest Chem class you can take, though its still chem. extremely clear grading criteria and drops the lowest test score. Her practice final was 75% of the actual final. She recommends doing practice problems in the book, but I never opened the book once and received a high A. DONT skip class, as she tells you whats on the test. Shes Amazing
Raeanne is really dedicated to making sure you understand the material during lecture. Definitely do not be shy to raise your hand and ask questions during lecture. She might sound like there is some rudeness/conceitedness in her tone but it isn't real, don't let it get to ya. Also USE. HER. OFFICE. HOURS. and email!! She is really quick to respond
Dr. Napoleon is an amazing professor. I took Chem 101 with her over the summer, and having never taken a chemistry class before, I was nervous about what to expect. As long as you're willing to put in the work, like reading the assigned chapters before lecture and doing the homework problems (ungraded), she will recognize that.
If you are willing to put in effort, you will easily pass this class. If you do the practice problems and know your equations you will do well on the exams. She also drops your lowest test score at the end of the semester.
Dr. RzaRae is Ah-MAZING!!! I wish she taught more chem sections, I'd take them all! I used many tutors & OH's, bc Chem is hard, even the intro class. Dr Napoleon makes lecture interesting & funny while explaining difficult topics; she even made quantum mechanics as easily digestible as it can be. Do practice problems, they're key!! #chilipepper<3
Loved Dr Napoleon! She is absolutely great, made lectures interesting and labs were great too. Always available and willing to help, she really cares about her students
She makes the class interesting and entertaining for a Chem class. I took her class for my summer session and didn't regret it. She drops your lowest test, lab, quiz scores and curves up your grade. Make sure to do the practice problems she assigns every chapter and you will definitely get an A+!
Napolean is an amazing professor who wants her students to excel. Chem intimidating and one of the hardest classes, but if you do the work and come prepared for classes you'll be fine. She is very understanding and always happy to meet to walk you through anything. Make sure to see the tutors. She drops a few grades at the end as well!
I found Napoleon to be very disorganized. Shes constantly playing catch up and is never ahead with grading assignments. The labs are 30 percent of your grade so make sure you do well on those! Make sure to double check your sig figs because she knocks off -1/2 point for each incorrect sig fig and hardly gives partial credit on exams.
Her lectures are great and to the point with a touch of humor added every now and then. Tests are the biggest part of your grade. Biggest downside is if you're an athlete. She is merciless when it comes to balancing sports with school work. I was forced to sit out 3 of my matches. Highly do not recommend this teacher if you are a student-athlete.
Absolutely an awful and unprofessional person. She does not know how to listen to other peoples opinions and continually shuts down ideas that are not her own. A very typical SJW who does not know how to show respect and compassion for other people or their opinions.
Dr. Napoleon is a great teacher when it comes to delivering information in her lectures, but if you fall behind she doesn't show much mercy. I have received many passive aggressive email from her and all I have done is show her kindness. So its pretty 50/50 for me!
She is not very good at explaining things and tends to just read off slides and get distracted by talking about random things like her zodiac sign. She is intimidating to ask questions to and makes it known she has office hours but then acts mad when you ask her something. She seems like a nice person but wasn't my favorite teacher.
Not good at explaining things and does not go in depth into explaining her lectures. She does drop some scores at the end and offer extra credit, but there was no study guides for the exams. When we had a study guide she gave a study guide with answers but didn't explain how she got them. She also said we can find answers of "sketchy websites"
I have loved every class at cc except this one. I have good grades but rlly struggled and she could care less & made it very known. she was rude, wouldn't respond to emails, & was hard to talk to w/o feeling bad about myself. some people had good relationships w/ her but I just couldn't stand the toxic environment and decided to withdrawal.
Her class is very easy, but I don't like her personality at all. She tries to relate to her students by talking about drinking/drugs. Very unprofessional and honestly uncomfortable at times. Late to every lab/lecture and has to rush because of it. Lets her anger show very clearly, and gets upset when students don't understand her teaching.
So much fun!!!!! She was my favorite professor here so far. She is very funny and relatable. Love her lots, and wish she could teach all my classes. I will admit that sometimes she can be slightly disorganized, but she will always help you out if you talk to her about it. Love you Napolean!!
Dr. Napoleon is an excellent chemistry professor at SBCC. Her approachable lectures and supportive nature make her a standout. She allows for the dropping of the lowest lab grade, exam grade, and two homework assignments. Had to withdraw from a chem101 at diff inst. because of how rude the professor was, and now I have an A in this chem101 class!
Dr. Napoleon is one of the best professors I've had. She makes the class engaging, entertaining, and provides you with everything you need to be successful in the class. Be prepared for class, practice all problems, and keep a consistent study schedule and you'll do great.
She's great! Can be a little scattered (often late or slow grading) but she offers so much help and clear study guides. She cares a lot and makes it easy to pass!
I have loved taking this class. The lectures are very informative and as long as you take one or two practice tests before each exam you will do well. I didn't read the textbook and had to watch 3-4 videos on topics I didn't quite understand but overall the class was structured well and easy for a summer course.
Dr. Napoleon is one of the best professors I've ever had! She was hilarious in lectures so I never skipped a class, and she explains every topic very thoroughly. I recommend taking as many notes as you can during lectures, as I was grateful for them when preparing for exams! Pay attention, go to class, ask for help during labs if needed.
She was nice, but her teaching techniques were subpar. She took too long to respond to emails. She missed two weeks for personal reasons. However, this left the class in disarray b/c we didn't know what we were doing. When she did come back many of our lectures were cut short. We were behind in lectures so they didn't match up with the labs.
She's nice, but her teaching skills aren't great. She missed two weeks of class due to personal issues. When she came back, she missed or ended lecture early. She a scheduled 3 exams within weeks of the end of the semester. Had to teach myself much of it or go to tutors. Many felt lost like we were running around like headless chickens.
Genuinely one of the most frustrating classes I have ever taken. It took up until 3 weeks before the semester is over for any of my lab report grades to be entered, meaning no feedback on the reports and no idea how to get an A on them. She is extremely unorganized and seems to be always confused. I taught myself everything before each test.
She is very nice, BUT this is one of the worst classes ive ever taken. She is very unorganized and it effects the class. When she goes over problems in class, she 9 time out of 10 gets them wrong and has to refer to students in class to help her. I basically have taught myself all the material. And she scheduled 3 exams in the final weeks of school!
Very disrespectful of our time, she is at least 10 minutes late to almost every single class and arrives not prepared. She is the most unorganized professor I've ever had, she's very scatterbrained, gets sidetracked, and gets the problems in class wrong. The material and tests aren't too difficult but overall she makes this class almost unbearable
She would mess up equations, but then do the correct one without explaining. Wouldn't respond to emails or if she did, she took forever. Got mad when students emailed her constantly over valid concerns. Wasn't clear on what to study for exams. Schedule exams close together end of semester. Had to teach myself. Majority of students felt the same.
One of the worst classes Ive taken. She wasn't prepared for class, arrived late. Most of the class was struggling b/c half the time she had to ask students for help. 3 exams were in the final weeks of the semester. It felt like a waste of my time, money, & effort in paying someone who wasn't even really teaching me. DONT recommend her class!
Very unprofessional and passive aggressive. Disrespectful of students time. In class we would work through problems which she didn't know how to solve then got frustrated at students for asking questions trying to get clarification. Lacked communication. Promised resources that was never provided. Be ready to teach yourself.
Very unprofessional and rude. This Professor is notorious for bringing her feelings and ego into the classroom. Not sure how she is chair of the department. Uses her "Phd" as an excuse to have a leg up on students even though she is often wrong.
The class is lecture heavy but you can also just teach yourself from the textbook. She knows what she is taking about she just doesn't know how to teach it. She tells nerdy jokes and gets sidetracked a lot in her lessons. At the end your final won't negatively affect your grade it can only boost it.
