Professor Narvaez is a great professor who is interested in helping his students understand the materials. Higher recommended.
He's the most patient professor i have ever met! Always with his Spanish accent on! Trust me u will crush on his sexy accent and hairy chest! He always gives students the best answers and teaches some useful but not boring lectures.Just go for this extraordinary professor! U won't regret!
Narvaez is definitely one of my favorite professors this semester. He cares about what he teaches and tries to make sure everyone understands his lectures. A lot of his info is on his lecture power points which are only in class so you need to attend to take. Sometimes the class gets long, but in general it is an easy and pretty enjoyable class.
I really enjoyed his class. It is really easy. There is no homework and only 4 tests. As long as you go to class and know what is on the study guides you will get an A. I learned a lot too. He is a super nice professor and is very willing to answer any questions. Strongly recommend.
If you pay attention and go to class there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. He really cares about you success and has flexible office hours
Had to take this class for my major. It was pretty laid back and kind of boring. is lectures were alright but he doesn't post grades or tell you how you're doing which is not good. There were some interesting things he talked about. Overall it was okay.
This was his first time teaching research and it was kind of disastrous. Our study would have been really great if IRB had approved it sooner and everything was more organized. I'm disappointed it didn't go as we had hoped. I'm sure other instructors are better at this class, but it was alright overall.
I was very distracted because his accent is hot and so is he. He's from Peru. This class was very easy. Your grade is based on 3 multiple choice tests and attendance/participation. Each is worth 1/4 of your grade. Write down what's on the power points and that's all you need for the tests.
He is an okay professor, but lectures about the same thing for many class periods about the same topic, irrelevant to what our readings are. We were given a study guide with 60 some questions on it, virtually none of them were discussed in class. Some not even in the reading.
Loved going to his class his lectures are super interesting and you can tell he has a lot of knowledge in the topic. Test is only 2 tests and the final. You have no homework in the class but the tests are very hard and that is all your grade is.
Your grade is based on 3 multiple choice tests and attendanceparticipation. Each is worth 14 of your grade. Everything he tests you on is in his review and 90% of the material are from his slides. Go to class, take notes, participate, and enjoy his sense of humor and attractiveness.
Rafael Narvaez is almost too smart to be a teacher. He has you buy his own book that he wrote and focuses a lot of his class on his ideas on topics, versus what the sociology book says. This is kind of confusing. He repeats himself a lot so tests are quite easy, however lectures are miserable sometimes.
3 exams and participation make up your grade. Don't miss class because he doesn't use d2l. Gives study guides for every test; do them and you'll get an A. No papers or extra credit options. His lectures were kinda boring but the class did open my mind to a lot.
Pretty easy intro-level class. He bases your grade off of three easy multiple choice tests (which he gives out study guides for) and attendanceparticipation. So basically show up to class and do the study guides and there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.
I'll be blunt--his lectures are incredibly boring. He asks you to read the chapters (out of his own book) before coming to class and then precedes to pretty much lecture word for word from his book. It can be a drag, but you should definitely get all the information. Other than that the class is not hard. Just come to class everyday and take notes.
this class was very helpful. He grades on participation and the tests. there are only 3 tests the entire semester that each cover 5 chapters and there are no essays or quizzes. this class is very easy to understand if you do the readings.
Super nice guy and great professor! He takes attendance everyday. You will only have 3 tests in the semester besides the final. Just pay attention and take notes and you will be fine!
The class is interesting, but the information is hard to grasp. He is a funny guy and super friendly. Takes attendance everyday you have to show up to class, or you won't pass. The tests are extremely hard and you don't have homework, so your grade for the class is test dependent. He teaches from his own book he wrote.
He is extremely brilliant and his class is very interesting! I would recommend him to anyone looking to take Sociology. He always awswered students questions in great description. No homework ever, only three tests throughout the semester. I loved this class!!
Strongly recommend class and professor. It is writing intensive, so not the easiest class in the world but also not the hardest. Very informational. No quizzes or exams. I feel I have learned more in Professor Narvaez's classes than any other. He is extremely knowledgeable and his topics are attention grabbing. He is also very helpful!
Doesn't use and visuals, and English isn't very clear. If you sit in the back of the class you won't hear a thing he says. He is a nice guy, just not the best professor.
If you like it when there is only 100 points total in the class then Prof Narvaez is for you. He wrote his own book, so his class is structured off of his own research. His tests are all multiple choice and roughly 25 questions, but trust me they are far from easy. The final is just a regular chapter test. Don't skip class.
If you think you're singing up for a SOC class you are wrong. The class is basically philosophy, and all his own view points. I think he is a decent guy, but my God was it hard to get motivation to go to that class. It is also super hard to retain anything he says because he has a bad accent and speaks very quietly. Grade based off of 3 tests.
You whole entire grade is based off attendance and only three test so there isn't really any room to do poorly on a test which is stressful, but wrote the textbook so if there is a concept you need to go over more his book covers it all. I loved this class and it made me change the way I thought. Attendance is extremely important thou.
The class is basically from his book that is required so as long as you read his book and know the people, the tests are not hard. Attendance is required but you are allowed to miss a couple classes and still get a decent grade. Overall, he is a great man and I would highly recommend this class.
Dr. Narvaez is very passionate about sociology. The textbook you use, well he wrote it and the chapters are typically only 8 pages long. His grading is kind of hard. The course is a total of 100 points and class is definitely mandatory. If you miss a class you can receive a grade reduction. Overall though, he is good at teaching the material.
Great professor. Really cares about sociology. Class is interesting and as long as you read your textbook, it's not hard to pass the class with a good grade.
Graded on three test and attendance. Test are difficult. Study for them. Lectures are very boring and long. He knows what he is taking about but doesn't teach it well.
Just make sure to come to class because attendance is part of the grade, read the chapters assigned & participate. There are only 3 tests the whole semester, which are not easy and you must study for. He is very nice, and although he has an accent, it is easy to understand. I loved his accent. He wrote his own book which is what all the test are on
Great professor. Keeps you engaged in lectures. Only graded on three exams and the final exam. If you show up and take detailed notes you will be more than fine. Exams are multiple choice and 25 questions. Would defiantly take this class again.
He is a very insightful, so the class sometimes seems more like philosophy than sociology. He is passionate about his teaching, he even wrote the textbook, and his lectures are basically word for word from the book. He also loves student partition. If you raise your hand and understand his concepts you should do very well in the class!
Very interesting professor. He uses his own textbook and practically speaks it word for word. His tests are difficult but if you read and paid attention in class you will be fine. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Inspired me to add Sociology as a second major. Highly recommend, and would for sure take it again.
Dr. Narvaez is super passionate about sociology, and super nice. There are only 3 exams including the final, so you need to study hard. There is no extra credit unless you are failing. None of the tests are cumulative. He takes attendance every day and it is 1/4 of your grade. Reading the book is extremely helpful, and they are short.
He is a great professor but his exams can be a bit difficult. Overall, it was my easiest class out of my semester.
Dr. Narvaez is very passionate about his students and Sociology. Your grade is based on 3 tests and attendance/participation. No papers. If you read the book (he wrote it) and pay attention you will do fine. Class is 100% lecture but overall good class.
Narvaez's class is graded only on attendance and 3 exams throughout the semester. The exams aren't too difficult and he usually gives students points back, they just seem like it because they are very wordy. The concepts are relatively easy. His lectures can get boring but if you miss something it's all in the book he wrote. Overall great guy!
Grades are based equally on 3 non-cumulative exams and attendance/participation. Exams are multiple choice, 25-30 questions on lecture material only, and in my opinion, very easy. The book is not necessary. He calls the roll every lecture after the first week, and attendance is 25% of the final grade. His lectures are long and uninteresting imo.
You can rarely understand buddy in class, class seems like its scripted considering he wrote the book. I rarely showed up and get a B just by reading the book. I don't fw bro
He uses his own book he wrote, as long as you read that and show up and understand what he's lecturing about you'll pass the class just fine. He's also really nice.
Professor Narvaez was one of my toughest professors so far. The grade is based on attendance and three tests. He wrote his own book so the lectures are just an extension of the content in the chapters. He had interesting concepts, but I would argue most of them were not necessarily Sociology. I wouldn't take him again only because of the hard tests
Narveaz is a great professor. Not a lot of people liked him, but he is very smart and knows his stuff. You will learn a lot in his class. There are 3 tests, all worth 25% of grade, and the last 25% is attendance. You have to work for your grade and really know your stuff. I would take the class with him again. Also, his textbook is easy to read!
The class is based on 3 tests all worth 25% of your grade. You will do fine as long as you read the book and study the material. Narvaez is from Peru and his accent is thick which makes him hard to understand. His slides don't match the book chapter material. Read the book and highlight. All info comes from the book. Mandatory attendence so show up
Dr. Narvaez really loves sociology. His tests are all multiple choice, but very difficult. utilize office hours and tutors. There are some interesting topics, but lectures are boring. Textbook: required, he wrote it, and teaches everything from it, just go to class Grading 3 tests: each 25% of your grade Attendance: 25% of grade (review syllabus)
Dr. Narvaez cares about the people in his class. Go to class-its worth 25% of your grade which is the same as one test score. I personally didn't find the tests hard. All you need to do is read the book and watch the videos he assigns and you shouldn't have a problem. There are 3 tests in the semester all multiple choice. Lecture is kind of dry.
Literally the easiest class ever. Show up, take notes, read the chapters, study the materials, and you're set. I got a 76% on the first exam, 99% on the second and then an 82% on the third and STILL ended with an A. I showed up to every class and took notes. You learn pretty basic things! Professor Narvaez is super nice and answers all questionstoo
I do like Narvaez I think he's a nice guy and a good professor. I found his class to be pretty boring but attendance is mandatory which I didn't like. He wrote the textbook we used so his lectures are exactly what the book says. Tests can be written a little weird, but you just have to read the questions more carefully.
Professor Narvaez is very kind and helpful. Before every exam, he devotes a class period to review. His lectures and textbook are very similar because he wrote the book. I would recommend reading the book if you are confused during lecture. You really need to know names for exams. There is very little homework, just occasional videos to watch.
i personally really enjoyed dr. narvaez. he was very passionate about sociology and you could tell just by the way he lectured. beginning of the course content is a little slow but the material (atleast to me) gets more interesting as the course goes on. attendance is important but he was very understanding when certain situations came up.
Prof. Narvaez is an okay Prof. I didnt really enjoy the subject matter but I dont blame him for that. However, if you are one who doesnt enjoy the topics of sociology and youre taking it as a pre-requisite for your major, if you choose to take Narvaez take it in the smaller lecture hall! I think it wouldve forced me to pay attention more.
I really enjoyed professor Narveaz he is a very caring professor and he is very educated on the material he teaches. If you show up and read the text book you will get a good grade. His test questions come right from the book. Would recommend!
Dr. Narvaez was a fantastic professor. I love this class because everything I need to know was explained in class, which is where I learn best. He's more than happy to go back over concepts and really make sure that the students understand. The textbook is super helpful if you miss class, but if you pay attention in class you don't need it.
He's a nice guy. He talks in circles during his lectures & the material is not too interesting. It's very easy to daydream while in his class. You don't need the textbook (which he wrote) as long as you pay some attention & write some stuff from his slides. Honestly the class feels like a waste of time & money. Attendance is mandatory which sucked.
attendance it mandatory which is annoying because his lectures are so boring and long. you are supposed to buy the book but you don't need it if you come to class every time because he basically reads the book word for word in his lectures in my opinion. tests aren't too hard but the questions are loooong which I hate
THE GREATEST TEACHER OF THE TIME
There is no homework for this class except for reading. Your grade depends on exam scores. Doesn't allow extra credit. Class is super interesting, I would recommend taking it at the same time as Psy210 because they overlap and both are easy classes. Buy the textbook directly from the publisher, it's cheaper than buying from the bookstore.
I loved Dr. Narvaez, he was a fantastic professor, however his lectures were pretty boring.
Narvaez is one of my absolute favorite professors. His classes are lecture-heavy and attendance is mandatory. Prepare to read as well, but its from the textbook he wrote. Your grade is based on papers, usually a midterm and a final that are written from lecture notes taken throughout the class. Take notes!! Talk to him if you need help, he cares.
He's a great professor and his exams weren't too bad but his lectures were very long and sometimes boring.
The nicest professor you will ever meet. I would highly recommend taking as many of Narvaez's classes as possible. He makes class fun to be at and the content easy to learn. He creates a very welcoming class environment.
Professor Narvaez is a nice guy. There is no homework for the class. However, there is lots of reading to do. The textbook is required (written by him) and you NEED the textbook if you want to pass the class. I only got a C because I didn't do all the readings. He's a nice professor overall who values student's opinions.
I didn't buy the book, got a pizza instead. Show up to his class and take notes as he talks and those are the things that will be in the exam. I was sometimes watching soccer on the side when he goes too deep into something. Just speak 1 sentence every class or two, you'll get full participation points. Missed A by 3% f. Jokes on book buyers :)
Professor Rafael Narvaez is one of the greatest professor and a human being. I have never seen such a kind, caring, understanding teacher. I owe a great part of my intellectual knowledge to him. Thank you so much sir.
Professor Narvaez really enjoys is job and appreciates students participating as it makes it less awkward and gets the ball rolling. Lectures and book are the same info given. It is easier though reading then going to lecture, it helps clear anything you don't know. Exams are open notes and open book. His class was very interesting if you listen.
Babbles on about a lot of things. No class engagement, very boring.
Narvaez is a great professor, he really tries to make lectures interesting and wants his students to succeed. The exams are easy if you read the book ( which he wrote) and go to class, they are also open book. I enjoyed this class and I would definitely take his other classes.
I would take any of his classes. Passionate about what he does and his students. Classes are interesting and tests are based on his lectures.
Prof Narvaez is very nice and truly cares for his students. Lectures are a lot more fun if you participate. He wrote the textbook so his lectures are laid out exactly like the book. Tests are open book and are very straightforward with no surprises. I really enjoyed this class as it is very interesting.
The overall class was easier than expected. He is very passionate about what he teaches and makes it easy to understand for everyone.
Dr. Narvaez cares a lot about his students. He loves when people raise their hand to respond. My class only had 4 tests, including the final, tests are open textbook (If you forgot your textbook he provides an extra to borrow). Have not had any homework besides reading textbook. Just show up to class as he does take roll call every time.
Dr. Narvaez is a good professor. I took his intro to sociology class. The textbook is required (which he made himself) and his lectures are based off of them. You read the chapters before class and discuss them in lecture. The tests were not very hard, you can use your textbooks/notes during the exam.
There are only 5 exams and those are your only grades each 20 points. The texbook is his own writing and his lectures are basically copied from the book. Lectures are mandatory and helpful. Reading and taking notes in the book is recommended because you can use it on the tests. Very smart professor.
Attendance is graded. Grades are only from exams and attendance. There are no assignments or papers. GET THE TEXTBOOK! You can use the textbook during exams but you cannot use notes. The lectures were interesting and he often gave us breaks during class times to use the restroom or stretch.
Professor Narvaez is a good professor. His class was incredibly easy as long as you took notes on his lectures. My only complaint is that his textbook is extremely expensive (buy it secondhand), but you need it for his open book exams. He also seemed kinda disorganized at times and his lectures are interesting but can get tiring.
Prof. Narvaez is a very nice professor but his tests are awful. I found myself not paying attention to his lectures because they were so boring and I didn't do well on his tests because they are SO long and are hard to understand. I would not recommend taking this class.
He's a great professor. You can tell he's very passionate about his lectures, which is why it can get quite long sometimes. Regardless, it's quite nice and I would HEAVILY recommend writing in the textbooks. Exam questions can be a little tricky to understand, so take your time reading the questions thoroughly. Overall, it was a good class.
As long as you take good notes on the slides and show up to class, you will be fine. All exams are open books, and he doesn't care what you write in your books. You will be confused in his class, but as long as you listen it will be fine. I recommend buying the book so you can write in it.
Attendance mandatory. if u miss more than 3 classes ur kicked from the class. Lecture the WHOLE class. very very boring and long lectures. u can't have a laptop out, just a pen and paper. VERY few assignments so each is a big percent of your grade. Great guy, but insanely boring classes which is weird because the topics in general are interesting.
I loved taking SOC 150 with him, the only thing that sucked was that you have to buy his textbook and it cannot be rented. Attendance and participation is worth 20% of the grade which I liked.
Very lecture heavy, but if you pay attention, the tests aren't hard. The tests are also open book but basically, the only thing you get graded on.
I loved this course and professor. He explains everything very well and keeps class interesting. You also can receive extra credit on test through class participation. If you show up, pay attention, and participate you'll get an A.
I liked this professor. We never had homework, so only graded by exams but there is SO much opportunity for extra credit throughout the entire semester. He made lectures interesting and you can use the textbook for all exams, so definitely buy it
Definitely go to lectures, as a lot of the stuff he talks about will be on the tests, but you can use your book on the test, so I wrote my notes in the book from his slides and they helped me out a lot. You are definitely able to get an A if you attend and pay attention in class and if you write notes in your book. Overall such a great professor.
Did better on the exams I didn't read the chapters for than the ones I did. Lectures are boring and it's hard to get participation points when you have the same people that always raise their hands before you can even process the question. If I didn't go to every class for attendance points, I probably wouldn't have passed the class tbh.
Need to go to lecture to pass, need to participate to get a good grade, very boring lectures, sometimes hard to understand, unfair professor, only passed because S2I
NO TECH! not a big deal to me but just something to note. his lectures can get a bit boring but he really loves what he's doing. you can use the textbook WITH YOUR NOTES IN IT during exams so i'll take the trade off. has interesting ideas and is very funny sometimes, truly wants people to take sociology courses. extra credit points too!!
If you do not participate in class, then you need to have perfect attendance to get a 90 in the attendance/participation which is 20% of your grade. if you go to class you will be absolutely fine, the content is easy and you get to use your textbook with notes on the exams.
He lets you use your textbook WITH NOTES on the test, which is AMAZING. I think his lectures are interesting, but a little odd at times. He doesn't allow tech, so up to you if that's a big deal or not. Attendance is taken everyday, and it affects your grade. So does answering the questions he asks in class, which are usually fairly easy.
I took this class as my third sociology class. I definitely recommend it as an earlier one because he repeats topics in some of his other classes. The lectures were long at times, but if you put in the effort, they are interesting. Graded by three papers and a project that you choose.
