Dr. Islam is solid. The class is pretty easy so long as you read the textbook and do the homework, both of which aren't challenging. Tests are simple and exactly like the homework. Can be a bit hard to understand and does have very long powerpoints with a lot of unnecessary information, but you can manage. TONS of extra credit opportunities.
He has a very thick accent that is very hard to understand. He lectures for an hour but gives 20 bonus points if you attend 18 classes. There is not much information on the slides and you have to listen to what he says but it is hard with the accent. The tests have a huge curve every time. You only have homework due the day before each test.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU NEED AN ENTRY LEVEL SCIENCE. Find a different teacher because he is the only teacher that does tests in person on paper. I went to office hours, and he just accused me of partying on the weekdays and not coming to class when I have never missed a class nor do I party. Lectures are terrible and half the time useless for test
Not great. His test are too difficult for a class filled with people who are just trying to get their natural science credit. The class with him is probably great if you are passionate and love geography, but for 95% of students, it is not a good class.
Tests are on the harder side, split into two parts multiple choice online at home and then short answer in person. Labs are extremely hard, takes forever to grade the labs so beware of not knowing your actual grade in the class. But a very funny teacher and very relaxed
He is extremely easy to work with. He assigned easy homework's due once a month and a lot of extra credit. Although he is sometimes hard to understand, he makes up for it with opportunities for easy points. If you do all your work (which isn't a lot) but get low grades on all four of your tests you can get an A.
Very hard to understand. The tests were very confusing with the lecture slides. The lectures are hard to follow and very hard.
Nice person but can be snarky sometimes. Does not respond to emails and is not helpful with questions. Can barely speak English and is horrible about actually teaching the information. Test reviews are not similar at all to the actual tests. Publicly shames students who do not get 100s on his tests. So boring.
Tests were the worst part. Reviews were nothing like tests, but last test was online. Lectures are boring, homework once a month that's super easy. Lots of extra credit, but don't rely on it, it's honestly worth a few points. Not much is put into your grade so try to score high. Nice guy, tries to be funny, but not my favorite.
Do not take the class for entry level science credit. He dances around test questions, and the PowerPoints do not help. Overall, the homework was pretty easy but time consuming and the labs were pretty easy also. He really played.
He is a funny guy however he tends to move too fast in his lectures and I could not keep up with him.
Do not take this course as an easy science credit. He is very nice, but the tests are extremely hard. Few assignments and he does offer extra credit for attendance. Overall, only take if you like Geography and want to pursue it.
Md Islam's lectures are slightly fast paced, but he covers all of the material and offers very helpful reviews before test day. This class does take a little bit of effort, but that doesn't make this class hard. Test questions almost always come straight from the PowerPoints, which are always available to you. He is also VERY lenient with grading!
Don't take him. attendance mandatory, heavy accent that is hard to understand, flies through lectures, uploads completely different power points on blackboard that don't include information covered in lecture, reviews are useless, tests nothing like what he says, bad grammar on tests make it hard to understand, not helpful if you ask for help.
Islam has been one of the better professors I've had. He is hard to understand but not so hard you don't know what he is saying. He is passionate about geography and it reflects in his lectures. It is not at all a hard class, you just have to study and do all your work and labs. Easy as that. I 100% recommend him to anyone wanting to take GY101!
He's a great professor. Go to class because attendance counts! Tests are hard, but he curves them insanely in our favor! There's an online assignment due before every test, it takes a while but you always get 100. Labs are all online with 2 attempts and only took me 30 mins max. Much easier than GEO 101. Would recommend if you need a science class!
His tests half the time do not even have the correct answers as the answer to the question and none of it is taught in class. I would never ever refer him to anyone or tell someone to take his class. The only thing that saved my grade was my lab which was not taught by him.
I would never recommend him as a professor; he's a nice guy but his accent is extremely hard to understand. Half the time the powerpoint he uploads does not include the information he went over in class. He does test reviews but the information for the review is rarely on the test. Study the smartbook reading if you want a decent grade on tests.
this class was very easy. he always gave us questions that would be on the test and bonus points of the football team won a game. He's pretty funny and chill. If you review the review powerpoint and study that before the test, you will make an A very easily. Attendance is required. for me, minimal effort allowed me to get an A+
He's a nice, funny guy who tries to be engaging, but it's pretty impossible because of his thick accent. He's very hard to understand, and his lectures are already super long and boring, so it's really hard to pay attention. He does curve tests a ton, so it's not the end of the world if you take his class, but I would never take him again.
Very nice guy, always makes jokes. Take him if possible, I would 100% take his class again.
I try to like Prof. Islam, and you can tell his intentions are good. However, I would never take him again, classes are really difficult to me because of his thick accent and because I feel that lectures are really long and boring. Homework IS SO MUCH and I don't even feel like it helps at all, and tests are hard too. And those are the only grades.
Fun and easy-going. Easy class. Lots of free extra credit.
He is a great guy but he is so hard to understand with his accent. The class is entirely lecture and attendance is required. You only get graded on the long reading/homework assignments and a few test. Test are all in person. If you understand Geography then this is the class for you. Otherwise don't take it.
He is a great professor, knows his content.
He is professional and knows what he teach. Easy going professor.
I appreciate Prof. Islam, as his intentions are genuinely good. However, I would recommend taking his class only if you truly plan to attend regularly. The classes can be a bit challenging for me. Although he has a thick accent, I still understand him perfectly. I find the lecture presentations quite interesting
I like him
I recommend taking his class. He's a great professor and very nice. Dr. Islam
Dr. Islam, is a great person and professor. Attendance matters, I recommend you to attend class. Homework is long but it is very easy. Test are very difficult. I passed 2 test and failed one however I passed the course. His test reviews do not really help at all. in order for you do well you MUST STUDY THE IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENTS, my biggest advice!
Attend every class, take notes, you will pass.
Class based learning. Professor Islam is professional. Replies email
Md Islam was an excellent professor. He used humor to engage us, taught the material effectively, and ensured that everyone understood the concepts. He also offers great opportunities for extra credit and truly wants all of his students to succeed. Although I'm not particularly fond of science courses, I found this one to be very worthwhile.
Prof. Islam is a very engaging lecturer and makes a somewhat boring topic for me to learn about a little more interesting. I would say that I do wish the PowersPoints that he taught had words and not just pictures. Just because sometimes he can be a little hard to understand and I would have liked going back through them and study before the tests.
Md Islam was so kind and thoughtful and did a great job. This was not an easy course, but he was always ready and willing to help, which I really appreciate.
………………………….
Go to class to get attendance points. He gives notes and tells you exactly what things to write down/know for the tests. There's a drop test and the final was online. As long as you're in class you'll be fine.
Dr. Islam is the best. Clearly passionate about the material, and very fair with how he creates and grades assessments.
Good teacher
Confused how he has low ratings. Really kind guy and has a passion for what he teaches. Funny stories as well. Put in the time to take notes, understand the homework, and you will be just fine. Makes class interesting and you will learn important material.
He is very hard to understand and it was very tough for me to pay attention when I can barely understand what he is saying. He is a very cool person though. One test is dropped and I did not get over a 75 on 3 tests and got a B in the class. If you do good in the Lab you will be fine.
Prof. Islam is a very engaging lecturer and makes a somewhat boring topic for me to learn about a little more interesting. I would say that I do wish the PowersPoints that he taught had words and not just pictures. Just because sometimes he can be a little hard to understand and I would have liked going back through them and study before the test
This professor may be the best professor I have ever had. Super nice, tried to have fun and crack jokes. Very fair grader and was lenient on many occasions even though his students weren't high performers. Md Islam deserves a raise honestly.
Good professor - I have over a 100 in the class. I believe he did not do very well teaching the third exam material. He started going over it before we even to the first exam. Other than that, he was a good professor and very knowledgeable about the class.
Super happy and respectful instructor. His great personality made me want to go to class.
very nice guy and gives you key information if you show up.
Attendance is mandatory, but he allows you to leave after signing the attendance sheet. The lectures don't cover what will be on the test, and sometimes, he just rambles. His accent is very thick, so if that is something you avoid, then avoid this class. There are like 5 homework assignments and they're very tedious and long.
Good Teacher. Extra Credit given if you attend most classes. Tests are challenging but If you follow the review slides you will be successful.
He is nice and tries to be funny and engaging, but the lectures are painfully boring. He has a very thick accent and his English isn't great, making it even harder to pay attention/understand. I never felt confident while taking the tests, but he scales them A TON, and that's the only way I got an A. Also because the lab was super easy.
While he had a very kind demeanor, he was erratic and unorganized with his lectures. He would skip through slides and make it hard to keep up with notes. The tests were difficult but he did curve them which helped. The content of the course is just complicated and him being unorganized along with a thick accent made it difficult.
His lectures are very scattered and all over the place. He has a very tick accent that can also interfere with your understanding of what he is saying. He does post the in class slides, out of order. He does allow you to drop one test at the end of the year. There are also very long reading assignments. The exams are nothing like the review days.
His exams are hard, but I always get above 90; I guess it's because he curved it. The labs were easy; the homework is so long because it's based on McGraw-Hill material, which many courses use. Attend the class and complete other assignments. The day before the exam, he will post the slides and learn from it.
This is not an easy A class ‼️ exams are difficult and attendance is extra credit which you will need. Professor Islam is nice, but hard to understand sometimes because of his accent. If this class has nothing to do with your major- you'll find it boring & hard. The only assignments are McGraw hill and Exams.
Horrible professor, can only understand 30% of the words he is saying with a very thick accent. Most stuff on review won't come onto the test or will be different from how reviewed. Tests are very hard with very long homework.
CONCEPTS CONCEPTS CONCEPTS!!! This class is consisted for pretty much 4 tests and then the lab. The quizlets for the tests can only help you so much. Learn the concepts, write them out and that will help you so much more for the tests. Memorizing terms won't do anything for you honestly you have to be able to apply it all. You get one drop test.
He was I great professor, with that being said it was a very difficult class to be a natural science credit. I had to start studying nearly 2 week prior to every exam. You definitely have to put in the effort to earn a good grade. This is not an easy A class if that's what you are looking for. He also has a very heavy accent so be prepared.
DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!! He does not speak good english at all. lectures are HEAVY and the tests are very difficult. there is a reading assignment for every test (3 of them) and they take hours. so hard, so packed, take someone else
He is so funny and sweet, just pay attention and take notes in lecture. Before exams, read the chapters- most of the questions are based on the textbook.
If you go to class and take notes its not that hard of a class. Even though his lectures are long, he tells you when something will be on the test. Most people writing bad reviews were shopping all class. His tests are moderate difficulty and on scantron. The homework takes an hour max and is due every test.
A very nice and understanding professor that wanted to see you succeed in his course. He is very generous and helpful.
Md Islam was a fantastic professor, he was very interactive with the class and always found ways to make jokes. All around probably one of my favorite professors.
Md Islam was a great professor but the only drawback is that he has a thick accent. He was sometimes hard to understand but he tried his hardest to keep students engaged in a very boring long lecture. Great guy and I would recommend him.
MD was a great teacher. he taught the class well and was able to have fun while doing it. which led to more kids answering questions and a more enjoyable class to attend. you can tell he enjoys what he does.
Very bubbly personality and always knew just how and when to crack a joke, he was also very helpful when i needed to make up a test or had questions.
If you took 2 years of physics in high school, this class is a piece of cake b/c the concepts transfer over to weather. Everything you need on the tests is on the reading assignments, so you don't have to pay attention in class. Attendance is mandatory and labs are annoying, which is why he doesn't have a 5.
Great professor! Attendance is mandatory but fairly lax. His grade scale makes it very easy to get an A. He has an accent, but it isn't hard to understand. Homework is only due before the tests, and you get a drop test. The exams are easy if you pay attention during lectures, and always have extra credit questions. Labs are a pain, but aren't hard.
Professor Islam is a great professor.
He was my favorite professor this year and I really enjoyed his class and lectures.
teacher really cares about his student. He has a great heart for his students The teacher has an immense passion for his students
Md Islam is the most entertaining and engaging lecturer I have ever had. He was very funny—both intentionally and unintentionally—and shared amusing stories and examples that helped the material stick with me. He made the content personal by discussing how various weather phenomena have affected him and his homeland.
Md is very engaging lecturer, offering a balanced view on controversial topics and encouraging us to form our own opinions. His emphasis on key concepts gave me a solid understanding of weather, climate, and global wind circulation.
Thanks to prof Islam, I not only performed well on the test with minimal memorization but also deepened my understanding of local weather. The instructor genuinely cared about the material and even shared videos and pictures of the effects of natural disasters to demonstrate why this knowledge is important.
Professor Islam was an excellent teacher. He was bright, funny, and knowledgeable. He made taking the course fun and taught me a great deal. He was always accessible and made sure to help if we needed any. I am so glad I took this course.
It is very difficult to understand what he is saying.
Dr. Islam was overall a really great professor! You can tell he really cares about his students and wants to them succeed. His accent does make it difficult to follow along sometimes, but the powerpoint usually got the main point across. He does a review day for test and if you understand everything from that powerpoint you'll do fine on the test.
Look it is an easy class with the extra credit and everything but you have to go to class and Alabama needs to win football games. BUT YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HIM. I went to class and every time I couldn't tell you what he said. It will be you teaching yourself the class. His slides also dont have alot of words so you really are learning in the dark
I don't understand Islam hate. Lectures are pretty boring but you can miss up to 7 classes and if you miss less than that it's extra credit. Exams are much easier than most classes it's just comprehension and the homeworks are completion grades. He also adds extra points on exams after every time the football team wins. Highly recommend
Great guy, pretty easy class, you can get by with a A even if you do bad on the exams. DO THE CHAPTER HW. So easy but it just takes like a hour per, very easy way to get points. He gives a ton of extra credit. Labs are so easy. A little hard to understand, but not as bad as people make him out to be.
I would 1000% take him if you need a easy science class credit. He curves all the exams and he gives extra credit for the most simplest things like Alabama winning a game. He also has McGraw hill concepts that you'll have to do which take some time to do. He does have a strong accent too so beware of that.
Dr. Islam is an exceptional professor and person all around. It is clear that he respects his students and genuinely cares. He always makes class interesting, often trying to throw in some jokes or stories for us to understand the material. It is easy to see his passion for the subject and for teaching, and I will miss learning from him.
Dr. Islam was overall a really great professor! You can tell he really cares about his students and wants to them succeed. His accent does make it difficult to follow along sometimes, but the powerpoint usually got the main point across. He was always reminding us of deadlines and important dates by email, which was very helpful.
I think that Dr. Islam is a great professor for his intro geography course. He has an accent, but it is not hard by any means to understand what he is saying in lecture. I would totally recommend any body needing a required natural science course to take this one based on my prior experience with this course.
The overall course was not hard to thrive in if the student puts effort in their studies. The tests are straight forward, and he is lenient when it comes to scaling the scores
Great professor and a very funny guy. Would take one of his classes again.
He is a great and funny professor. He just never responds to emails and didn't want to round up my grade by .2 points. I have a 3.499 GPA due to this
He is one of the sweetest professors and genuinely tries to make lectures fun. He gives a lot of bonus points for random things (like Bama winning), but he can be hard to understand, and I struggled to stay engaged. Still, I did the work, earned extra credit with attendance, and finished with an A+. Best option for GY 101!
