I really like his teaching style. If you really study you can get a high grade. I passed my first try and I HATE math. Use the S.I. option if available. Watch out for errors on the test though, happened a lot when I was taking the class.

Very good teacher. Best that LAVC has to offer in math department. Highly reccomend him. However, if you don't practice the problems (do your homework....) then you won't pass his exams. BUY A TI-89...very helpful!!!!!!!!!

I took this teacher after the horror teacher Marroquin. WOW what enthusiasm. This man is a God in math.By the time he finishes a class he is white with chalk dust.LoL.. The best Math teacher at LAVC. Thumbs up to Makhluf.

Well what can i say about this teacher he is brillent in Math. I love him, so easy, helpful and also very clear. Test are so easy and if you do your homework, if you don't do your homework then is difficult cause the test is same like HW. Take him ok.

One thing that i can say about him is that he is the best in LAVC.

He is a nice guy. I thought he was tough. I had to study my butt of for his class. But he passes just about everyone. His tests are challenging but manageable. He recommend him I thought this was a great class. If you are willing to study go for it. You will probable end you with a A or B

My first math in 16 yrs and I got an A! Gives bonus pts for homework & 85%=an A! Works thru problems all hour-no BS though- if you want to chat w/ your friends-go back to high school. Friendly and helpful-even at 6:45AM!

This class started off great. He is funny in a quirky way and gives very detailed step-by-step instructions, however, as time goes by, and the info gets harder he doesn't really take the time to thoroughly explain. GOD help you if HE falls behind because he gets a bit testy and anxious. Still considering my previous instructor from He--he was ok

Dr Makhluf rocks!This guy, a hard worker with good personalities, is supper nice to students.He always cares students' reaction during the lecture, and he explains the stuff as much as you want.

Pro. Makhluf is amazing, hes very detailed and meticulous with explaing the material, hes patient and extremely helpful if you ask for it. Exams are very conceptual based, and seems to like proofs (in calculus). Does hmk in class, so no need for solution manuel. Overall very good!

I have been afraid of math for a long time, but I really started to understand it in this class. If you have trouble understanding talk to him, he will help. Grading scale is 85% = A and so on and offers a bonus for homework.

I'm not agree with those who said that Dr. Makhluf is not clear, and doesn't help if you need it. He's very helpful, hard-working teacher who starts teaching from the first seconds of the class. It's true, there are 6 tests+final, but if you work hard, pay attention, do the homework, you'll pass the class. He even gives extracredit for the homework

I have had this prof. for Math 105=A, 115=B. He is a caring and brilliant man. In his mathematical frenzy,chalk dust billowing, he eagerly and systematically explains the math, however it is up to you to ask questions and study the hw. He has even given some, special practice quiz's to help. JUST ask for the help.

He is a great teacher. If you have any mathematical ability, pay attention in the class, study for the quizzes(6)+1 final, do the homework (get extra 10 points for it), you'll pass it. Won't find a better math teacher. Does all your homework problems in class with you. You don't turn them in. Tests are multiple choice, but not easy. You have to practice by doing homework on your own or you'll get smoked on tests. Gives 10 points extra credit for each test. Five tests and a cummalitive final. Study and you'll get an "A".

Excellent teacher. Very clear on his HW. He goes over and answers any question you might have at any time (very helpful). Its not easy - just because its Math. You earn your grade - definitely an "A" - if you pay attention and get involved in his class.

He teaches by example alone (little to no Thereoms/Proofs except where necissary) Do the practice problems and homework (make sure you understand everything) TI-89 allowed on exam. He is STRICT grader on exams...must get 100% of problems correct for credit. (thats his only downfall) other than that i give him 2 thumbs up.

Best math instructor I've taken a class with. His teaching style doesn't mesh with everyone though; he writes all the questions on the board and you do them - all class long. He'll stop to explain things as much as needed, but his English isn't great and sometimes it's hard to get him to understand your question. Really nice and patient guy though.

His teaching style is dictator-like-he asks rhetorical questions he wants unanswered. no homework out of class, but every mundane like-minded problem gets done in class. he's cheap with breaks, and just talks at you. not recommended unless you absolutely can't fit a different math 115 class in your schedule.

His voice gets tiresome due to reptitive phrases like "exactly". He does a lot of redundant steps and questions which seems to help those who need it, to me it was annoying. I love this professor! His teaching style is fast paced so you should read ahead in the text book before class to understand what's going on, but once you get a feel for Mr. Makhluf's teaching style the class is great. He is very, very willing to help and explains things until you understand them.

OMG this man wastes NOOO TIME.....the class starts at 10:20 and hez already writing problems at 10 and telling us to solve them...DONT EVEN ASK HIM WHEN THE TEST IS OR ANYTHING...he'll ignore ur questions and tell you to continue on doing the stupid homework...even though the class is not that hard...theres NO BREATHING room..no relaxing

He is a great teacher. He will help you until you understand. If you talk in class you probably won't understand what is going on. He will also tell you "quiet please, do your homework". If you have any problems just ask him during class or after and he will explain until you understand. Chapter tests are extra credit for your test scores.

READY...SET...GO...The class is fast, however, he will go over every problem and every step. He will go over the work until you understand it. The class is like a workshop. No homework, 10 pts. for chapter review. Will drop lowest grade. I recommend him. I now understand math because of him. I won't take any other teacher.

Mr. Makluf is the best Math Teacher at LA Valley College he motivated me to learn how to solve problems and understand formulas But you do have to work hard and the class goes by pretty fast oh and he's also patient with his students haven't met a Math professor at La Valley like this one .

And there is no HW! I noticed the recent neg. comments and had to speak up. Maybe he was going through some personal issues at the time. He's only human!

took him for the summer math 125..he will explain anything you need step by step but there is absolutely no talking. you get used to his accent. i never bought a book. we did all the problems in class non stop. all i photocopied were the ch. tests which were +10 pts on your tests! and he drops your lowest grade. 85%'s an A! tests are OK. take him!

this prof. is very good. assigns no HW, but that means that class attendanceis critical. Took his class Fall 08 and did pretty well. doesnt make u buy the book but i highly recommend it. a new topic is covered everyday so if u dont buy the book u MUST go to tutoring. This teacher is great. I like his method of teaching cus he does it in a way that will make us understand it well. Their is one problem. On the test their will be like two or four questions that will be wierd cus he never taught that. I would change that. Overall his is a great professor.

Professor Makhluf is awesome! The class is structured like a workshop so we work on a multitude of problems in class straight from the book. He reviews for each test and doesn't continue until everyone understands what is going on. Extra credit is available too (Homework).

I really like this Professor, I joined his 113 Math class 4 weeks late. There is no Homework in his class it is up to you to keep up with the material and do the problems again during the week. The grade is based on only tests and he drops the lowest test score. He also give u extra credit on the tests. But I would take this professor. I got a C.

Great Professor! I didnt even have to buy a 100 dollar textbook! He teaches you everything you need to know for the test. All you gotta do is to study all the problems that he did on the board and get the key(absolutely systematic) concepts down. I dont know about Math260, but Math240 was a breeze!!! He gives a lot of extra points.Hes really funny!

I have to say, this is one of the best professors I have had in Pierce or Valley. He explains everything clearly and teaches by having you practice. He drops your lowest test, >85% is an A, and homework is all extra credit. It's hard not to get an A in this class while still retaining all the knowledge you bottled up. Highly Recommend him. Math is a hard subject for a lot of people, but Professor Makhluf discusses the topic and gives a lot of examples to help the students really understand the lecture. You won't need the book if you take good notes. If you go to class everyday and pay attention to the lecture you'll have no problem getting a B or higher. Take him!

This is college, so don't expect to slide by with Professor Makhluf. Math 225 is not easy; however he teaches the concepts clearly and succintly. If you're in school to actually learn something - and you're willing to contribute some time and effort - he is definitely the teacher to have. I recommend him without hesitation!

Homework is done in class so that you won't have to do it @ home. 4 Tests + Final. Great for teaching Math 125 and down. NOT 4 Math 225. Extra credit are the chapter tests @ the end of each chapter. Worth 10 pts each. DO ALL OF THE EXTRA CREDIT! HELPS GRADE DRAMATICALLY! Take his class. Gives lots of examples.

I took Math115 on Spring2012 @ 6:45am MTWTH. Loved every class I had with him. He goes at a slow pace and repeats the problems until you get it. You have to be punctual & respectful in class. No homework. He's a strict but very kind man. If you truly wanna learn math TAKE HIM. You won't forget anything he'll teach you. PROMISE!!! EM

easy prof. took final today and suspect an A+. no HW, except extra credit hw. reviews before each exam what will be on them. all exams multiple choice and writes equations on board during exam and allowed a piece of paper with any equations you want for final. Easy A if you show up to class and pay attention. taking him again for math 238.

Math 125 : Great professor. Hes precise and straight to the point. He does not waste any time. He does multiple problems in class for practice, so when test time comes therre are no surprises.

Hard class, because he gives some problems that he never goes over on exams. 4 exams 1 final, drops lowest score on exam. 85 percent is an "A" and no extra credit or homework. would only recommend if your good in math. I got an "A" in his class, but like 60-75 percent of the class failed or dropped.

This class was really really hard. I mean I failed all my exams besides one and also failed the final. My highest score in the class was a C and I ended up passing the class. The professor is really nice when going to see him during his office hours, but during class time it seems like he's really antisocial. Really tough class, but you learn!

Choice sometimes fill in, i suck at math and thought i would either fail or get a c bc i bombed a few tests but i passed with a B. Chapter tests are extra credit and he drops he lowest test score. This proffesor is okay he talks alot but he does not like to be interupted. This class was easy you learn so much and does problems step by step. Take him he is easy.

LEARN YOUR ALGEBRA BEFORE! Took him Fall 2013. Most people aren't passing because they don't know basics. He doesn't care for attendance and don't by the book. Classwork is all from the book and he just does pure work. No homework. Tests are pretty straight forward. Watch for simple mistakes. Easy to fail with bad algebra!

He may seem intimidating, but he is actually nice. He is able to simply everything and make it crystal clear.

Best Math teacher ever! Pay attention, don't miss class, and write down all the problems and you will be ok. He is always willing to help and understand the problems. Mr. Makhluf was the best Math teacher for me. I actually understood it!

I had him Spring2013. He does a lot of problems and examples in class which help with knowing what to do for the exam. I used my textbook for optional homework which he gives for extra credit, and to do more practice problems. He helps his students during his office hours too. I definitely recommend this professor.

Great professor. Know ur basic algebra!!! He can be impatient in class but visit him during his office hours & he is quite helpful. You MUST put in the work if u expect to do well in the class. Do the HW (he doesn't collect it though), attend every class, pay attention & u should be fine. No surprises on the tests, except the final was a bit hard.

I loved this professor. I am not good at Math and I got a B. He goes over the probelms several times. He gives samples of the probelms before the test and also extra credit.

Homework is done on the board everyday. He gives 10 point extra credit due on the day of each test. He's a great professor and i wish i could take him again.
