Intensely boring but easy
Dr. Pucha is a very genuine teacher. He is interested you learning the material rather than worrying about your grade. His exams are take-home and projects take up long amount of time. His projects are pretty much the practical use of everything you have learned. Also choose a good group for the project or else you'll regret it. You'll learn a lot.
1770 has pretty bad workload all in all, but Pucha is a good grader. Also, he doesn't seem to mind you skipping classes.
Pucha is the best 1770 teacher at Tech. He may not always be up to date with the software, but he is so funny and caring for the students. He makes learning 3D modeling easy. Big team project takes the whole semester, but he gives you a good grade if you made a good effort. All tests are take home.
Great teacher and helps whenever you need it. I even asked him if I could get more time on a take home exam because I had 2 or 3 other exams at the same time. He gave me more time immediately. Make sure you get good group members. If you don't, then do your part of the project better than the other members. Cares about learning more than the grade.
Lectures are very boring. First third of the semester is hand drawings which are not always fun to do but a necessary skill to have. After that everything is about solid works. The two main things in this class are a long term group project as well as an individual project. The require an IMMENSE amount of work but he grades them easily.
One of the best 1770 professors. First part of the course is hand sketching which gets to be very repetitive after a while. After that, it's all solid works. The entire grade is basically labs, an individual project, and a group project. Really easy grader. I forgot to attach 10% of my project, and he gave me credit for it a few weeks later.
Pucha was ok but 1770 is a terrible class. He's a good professor but he doesn't do much to work with you when you're struggling, and his standards are very unclear.
Do the labs. Unless you just cannot use SolidWorks or do not turn in the projects, you will get an A. Prof Pucha loves lecturing, but it is not really needed to do the assignments.
Overall, definitely a good choice. Regardless of who you take, 1770 is a time intensive class. With Pucha, turning in the work gives you a free A. Lectures are mediocre. Expectations for what you turn in are extremely clear but the prompt for what you are supposed to do is "vaguely specific". The main idea is vague but strucutre is there.
Easy A
Pucha is the man. Period. Really great person who really does care, always makes sure you understand the material and concepts, and is very lenient on deadlines. His class is significantly more work than the other 1770 professors, but you learn the material much better. He grades very easily (mostly completion) and you will for sure get an A.
This is the best ME prof to take! Seriously take him! Didn't even need to come to lab to get credit :) highly recommend, super nice and helpful
Terrible at explaining concepts. His lectures seem disorganized, and he often changes variables or what he's doing halfway through. Flies through the conceptual part to get to examples and lets you out early, but then expresses that everyone did worse on the conceptual part of the exam than he wanted. Takes attendance, but isn't part of the grade.
ME1770 is just one of those classes you have to put your head down and push through. Having Pucha definitely helps. You can regrade virtually anything for full credit. He is super relaxed, just show up to lecture and lab and you'll be fine. Try to pick people for you group that are motivated. Pucha is hilarious and wants you to become an engineer.
Pucha, on paper, is harder than other 1770 proffs. However, he is much more flexible. Numerous times he would extend deadlines for weeks so we would have more time. Also-he is so funny and sarcastic. Will help you out if your grade is borderline but you attended class/lab and did the work.
I was scared of 1770 as I had never seen CAD before. Puchas class is a lot of work, but I learned a GREAT amount. He does a great job of explaining the cad assignments and is always willing to extend deadlines for projects. Do the work and you will make an easy A.
He just wants to see effort. If you show good effort and good improvement if you suck at the beginning of the year, he'll give you a good grade.
I like his philosophy as a teacher, but he didn't do a very good job at explaining the material. At least he is an easy grader, so you shouldn't stress to much about his class.
Dr. Pucha is a great professor who truly wants to give his students A's and only cares about his students learning. However, he gives an absolute ton of work. But if you do the work, you'll get an A, no question.
Early in the course gives lots of sketching homework. Some was enjoyable, others not so much. Around week 5 or 6 Solidworks starts being taught and the class difficulty nose dives and becomes incredibly easy. Just grind it out until Solidworks and don't slack off on the individual or group projects and you'll do fine.
Can't explain the topics too well but loves giving A's and an absolute ton of extra credit. Extremely easy but a bit of work is involved.
As long as you do the work, you'll get an A from Pucha. Lectures can get a little boring at times, but he's a nice guy and cares about his students. Watch out for the section though. The "Sustainability" themed sections really put a damper on the fun that the course can be.
Dr. Pucha's lecture isn't too great but he really loves to help. Even tells his students how to solve a test question when some seem to have gotten stuck at a midterm. Takes attendence VERY SERIOUSLY! Make sure you go to every lecture or your grade's done. Other than that, his class has minimal workload and tests are super easy. Would recommend.
Great professor, his class might be more work than other profs but you really do learn well. Very lenient and willing to give back points on assignments if you go to him for feedback .
He's not a great lecturer but his tests are pretty easy. Homework is worth a lot which helps with your overall grade. His final was kinda hard.
He wasn't the best teacher to be honest but his class wasn't hard either. The tests were fine and the homeworks were fine too. His lectures weren't great but he did occasionally take attendance. Take him for a good grade but maybe not if you really want to learn the material.
Professor Pucha wrote an A in my grade book with a light stroke of the pencil. Do your work, and you'll be fine.
Extremely rude. Also his section Lab and Lecture activities were not given with good instructions often with mistakes. Randomly will yell at students for minor things including issues out of the hands of students.
Everyone ends up with an A. All sections are pretty much the same workload, but he's not the best at explaining things and can be a bit hard to reach and talk to. His slides contained a lot of mistakes and recycled stuff from previous years. Overall it doesn't really matter who you take it with though.
Loved ME1770. Pucha explains solidworks well &does examples every class. He can be strict but cares for his students and really appreciates / rewards those when he sees effort. Only "complaint" is his class has SIGNIFICANTLY more work than the other prof, Dr. D. But I believe Pucha's class gives more learning. You'll get an A, but be ready to work.
ME 1770 was very enjoyable with Dr. Pucha. His lectures will help you learn everything you need to know about Solidworks. It isn't hard to get the A if you put in the work.
Fairly straightforward, slow in the beginning. Later CAD lessons could move fast if you've never used it before. If you do the work, you'll be fine.
This was Pucha's first time teaching 3210. Overall it was fine. There were a few instances of questionable grading, but if you just talk to him during office hours he is more than happy to look at it and adjust. Lectures are pretty dull but not a ton of hard info. Not much effort is needed. Just do the work and you'll be fine.
Great Prof, my only gripe is that he is VERY hard to access outside of class time. My schedule never lined up with his office hours and he never once emailed me back to help me out with the problems I was having in the class. Do the work and get an A, its really that simple.
This is the classic CAD class at Tech, and prof really makes it fun. He is a funny and caring teacher, and as long as you follow his rubric for assignments you're completely fine. The whole class is weekly labs, a group design project, and an individual design project. Labs get a lot easier as the semester goes on to help with the projects.
While none of the work was particularly difficult, I would spend 10+ hours a week on the course because of the sheer number of assignments.
He's really forgiving about deadlines for projects, lots of assignments that might take some time (do not underestimate sketching). In general, as long as you do them, you're going to get an A. Don't expect TAs and prof to know everything about SolidWorks for the group and individual projects (don't procrastinate on those too much). Pucha was fine.
Dr. Pucha is a very sweet, relaxed man who is willing to meet with students outside of class, and you can easily earn partial credit back on assignments. His lectures were not the most interesting, but as long as you do the work (which is a lot) you will get an A. He gives an attendance grade, so do not skip class.
Dr. Pucha is very caring. He is nice and always tries to help students. His slides are detailed, but the concepts are easy. His tests are complicated, but he doesn't grade harshly
Great professor. Very understanding when it comes to deadlines. Biggest thing is showing up to every lecture, just do that and your golden.
Pucha is lenient about deadlines, but note procrastinating the combined individual and team project, and lab for the week can amount to MANY hours of work in a week. At end of semester it was annoying when other professors 3D printed projects for the students and we had to print ours for a grade, so just start early w/ all. Lectures help a LOT
Dr. Pucha is an absolutely amazing lecturer and person. He made sure everyone understood all the content and that we were never bored. The lab work and projects are quite a bit compared to the other classes, but he makes up for it in his grading leniency and understanding nature. Definitely would recommend taking Pucha.
Dr. Pucha is a decent professor. His lectures can be confusing as he often gets confused with what he is teaching. He assigns a significant amount of work in lab. He cares about his students but it is very hard to communicate with him outside of class.
The coursework for this class is VERY HEAVY. However, I don't think it's the professor's fault. There is a lot of content to cover in SolidWorks. I think Dr. Pucha does a good job teaching. His vocab isn't the best but I have a ton of respect for this man. He provides supplementary material so you can watch those videos if you don't understand him.
Dr. Pucha taught the course really well. I came in knowing very little about solidworks, but now feel pretty confident in it. The labs are pretty heavy but if you attend lecture and watch videos, they're not too bad.
this dude would spend 2 minutes yelling at me for doing something wrong, and then give me a 95 on it. he gives more work than other professors but as long as you complete everything on time youll be ok.
He consistently breaks GT's rules against assigning labs/homework over fall and Thanksgiving break, and do not expect to have this changed. I have tried. Prepare to spend 20-30 hours per week doing his vague, lengthy assignments, and he is very vocal about refusing to be accessible via email. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Dr. Pucha is a considerate teacher that expects you to work. He assigns a lot of homework that is time-consuming, but grading is never terrible and deadlines are very flexible. He doesn't respond to emails but has frequent office hours. If you put in the work you should get an A. Don't underestimate the team project because it will creep up on you!
Dr. Pucha is a certified goat. He is very nonchalant about the course. Making the environment go easy and very good for learning. The only work for the course is the individual and team project, as well as the labs every week. Very lenient grader making this a sleeper course. As long as you complete your assignments the course should be an easy A.
Explains content well and gives great feedback with projects, makes the class easy. Though the class is easy, the workload is absolutely ridiculous. This one class was more than my 5 others combined. Other friends I have are taking different professors with much less work. Great guy, and I would recommend, but you will work longer and harder.
Dr. Pucha is a fantastic prof. I highly recommend taking his ME 1670 class. It is a significant amount of work, probably more than necessary, but I loved taking his class. He cares about students and is always available during office hours.
This guy is chill and funny. He teaches you a lot of SolidWorks but tbh if you want to be an ME you should want to learn it. There is a heavy workload, especially for labs but theres enough time to do it. He grades so easily on individual and team projects- basically youll get an A if you turn in your work. He also regrades if u need. Love this man
Funny guy. Very easy grader. Doesn't check his emails. Brutally honest. Pucha assigns a lot, and it's time consuming, but as long as he can see you put in effort and followed (most) directions, you'll get an A. Every week he assigns HW, but most of it can be done in Lab (tho some weeks are much more time consuming). DO NOT PROCRASTINATE
He is a great teacher. Class is super work heavy and he knows this and extends deadlines if necessary. Always willing to work with students with whatever accommodations and teaches the material well. He even cracks a few jokes too. Great teacher for a boring work heavy class. Only bad thing is he seems to know nothing about the labs taught by TAs
Dr. Pucha's ME1670 class is a lot of work; there are large weekly assignments, as well as a large individual and team project, so do not procrastinate! It can definitely be a challenge to keep up with everything, but he is incredibly understanding and knowledgeable; he will help you through anything, and puts an emphasis on his students' success.
He was flexible on deadlines when we needed it and always willing to help during office hours. His knowledge of CAD is undeniable, which makes it more exciting to learn from him. The class definitely requires a lot of time as well as effort, but you get a lot out of it when you put that effort forth and can pretty easily make an A!
He was nice... too nice. This is his greatest asset, but unfortunately his biggest fault. Pucha needs to take this course as a student instead.
Pucha make CAD far more difficult that it actually is. He is a hardass about sketching (be prepared to suffer for the first 5 weeks) and assigns so much homework every week that doesn't help students become better at CAD. For the individual project and team project, he gives poor feedback and makes students do lots of unrelated work.
Professor Pucha was a really good professor, his lectures were concise and helpful. He sometimes also gave helpful videos which we followed along with for our classwork. He does assign a lot of work, so beware of that. Attendance is graded, and classwork/labwork is a large chunk of your grade. He is also pretty helpful during office hours.
Super cool dude, very funny in his own way. Pretty much just and individual project, a group project, and weekly homework which could be difficult cause I felt that SolidWorks had a steep learning curve. Assignments were also due 48 hours after they were assigned which could be a lot. Overall an enjoyable class. Easy to get a good grade.
Overall, he's a good professor and is an very easy grader. However, there is a lot of work every week and be prepared to spend a lot of time on the projects and lab activities. Almost every assignment has a soft deadline with a minimum 48 hr grace period
I love Dr.Pucha, the lectures are detailed and he builds your foundation for CAD even for someone who's never CADed before.
Easy lectures, not too necessary but some of them did have some lecture activity that you would have to turn in. The labs were easy and as long as you did them you will get a A. The projects felt like A LOT, however it is manageable. Pay attention to due dates and don't procrastinate and you will do great in this class.
Dr. Pucha knew what he was talking about and made lectures clear. Attendance was taken but the assignments weren't due until 48 hours after lab. TAs graded assignments, Pucha graded projects. Instructions weren't really clear, and he is only available during office hours. Never answers emails, never answers Canvas feedback. Overall good professor.
It takes a while to adjust to Dr. Pucha's style of teaching especially because this is a very assignment heavy class. However, he genuinely cares about his students and is available to give feedback whether it's during his office hours or after a lecture. Do the lab/lecture assignments on time, try to learn as much as you can, and you'll be fine.
Great professor, teaches a lot about SolidWorks. Definitely learned a lot even though I had never used any CAD software before. Very lenient on deadlines. Very accessible and is always happy to provide feedback/advice. Lots of assignments though, so be ready to work
Funny and sometimes engaging, but insane workload and vague project requirements.
The class itself is a LOT of work, but Dr. Pucha is a great professor and is helpful with students to do well in the class.
Pucha is a really great professor for ME 1670. He is very flexible when it comes to assignments, but he goes a bit quick with the lectures, so make sure to practice it outside class so you're on par or ahead. The class comprises of a individual and team project, so make sure to start early. Overall, great professor.
The class is not too bad, but the prof was not great. I had to teach myself using the textbook and youtube videos. Boring lectures, would get confused and then argue with us. Always late. Exams were online and late in the evening. Thick accent.
LOTS OF HOMEWORK between lecture activities, lab activities, group project and Individual Project. However, grading is fairly lenient.
Pucha's lectures are pretty bad, but the class is easy. The assignments are not always explained well, and the TAs in this class are NOT good. They almost never know the answer to a question (especially solidworks questions). Overall, the class could have been much better organized and really needs an update, but its not a hard class to begin with.
Previous post summed up pucha well, "yells at you, then gives full credit". I asked where his office was not knowing his office hours were virtual, he called me dumb in front of the class, then was incredibly helpful and understanding in his office hours. Group project is incredibly time consuming, barely takes off points for late submissions.
lots of work, had to do individual project, group project, and the insane labs all at once.
Other posts sum him up well. Labs give out a lot of work and are graded by TAs who sometimes don't even know what the questions (taking off points for stuff that the assignment asked for). Pucha covered the individual and group projects, which he gave 100s unless you missed a rubric item. Rough with feedback at times, but basically a guaranteed A.
Try to take other professors if possible. Labs aren't horrible, but some can be very difficult and it's a lot of busywork. Grading is very unclear for labs and the TAs sometimes don't know what they're doing either. Group project is annoying, and directions are unclear. He changed the template for our final presentation the day before it was due.
Doesn't respond to any emails and yaps the whole class. He knows a lot about solid works though.
It gets easier as it goes. You have to self-learn SolidWorks, and TAs know less about SolidWorks than you.
Dr. Pucha is a good prof and has lots of experience, but has high standards. He can be harsh, but still will give you a 100 on assignments. Doesn't answer emails, but is accessible with office hours. TA's haven't touched a computer in their life, so don't expect help there. Take Pucha to actually learn SolidWorks, take anyone else for an easy A.
Talks a fair amount in class but overall, not a bad dude. He could seem rude at times but is reasonable. Pretty easy class to get an A in, and the ratings don't do him justice. There are better teachers for ME1670, but you won't be upset taking him. Class gets a lot easier as you go on, and the grading is pretty light.
Professor was boring overall. Lectures were fine, work was easy, he posted all the instructions to canvas and you could figure out most of the coursework without his help. Very available in office hours. The problem came when we were presenting our final projects. He insulted groups projects in front of the whole class and was incredibly unkind.
Boring. Switch if you can for this course. All was fine in the class until the project presentation where no real rubric was given and then he was upset that projects did not have what he wish they would. After a section of presentations, he complained that he was tired and called other groups boring and said he was falling asleep watching them.
The glass itself requires lots of work but Pucha is very lenient on grading. Only grades big projects and will give you 100% as long as you follow the rubric and TA's are often easy graders as well. Not the greatest lecturer, but entertaining and knows a lot about SolidWorks.
Compared to what I've heard about the other 1670 professors, Pucha seems to be the easiest by far. For most of the semester, there's no HW and everything is done during the lab. The grading is also very lenient with multiple extra credit opportunities. If you have prior CAD experience, this class is a free 100%. Do note that the TAs are useless.
Type of class that's full of busy work but he grades very leniently, Everything can be done during lab time so there usually isn't any homework, The TA's I had were pretty helpful. For an ME 1670 class he is probably the one you want if you're looking for a free A as long as you do the work it was usually a 100.
He really likes students going to office hours, so if you lose points in anything, go to office hours right away. Besides that, I felt like he gave too much busy work that genuinely taught me nothing.
The class is so much busy work and gets frustrating a lot but the professor and TAs are very accessible with office hours so go and get help. If you finish all the assignments and follow guidelines you're basically guaranteed an A but if you can, go for a different professor to avoid the crazy amount of useless work to get the easier A.
do the extra credit and its calm
