No attendance grade. Test are very wordy. Class average about a C. It is easy to make an A you just have to do the homework and quizzes.
Really nice guy but tests are very difficult. Highest test score on second test was an 84. Helpful if you need it but focuses in lecture on many subjects that he doesn't test on.
This guy was awesome
He is by far the best professor I have had. He really cares about his students and loves to hear from them for feedback.
READ: Attendance is not required. He will drop 2 quizzes two quizzes and homework's at the end of the semester. Test wise he drops your worst test grade. So if you get a 50% on test 1 and a 85% on test 2 both of the test will be an 85%. On the Final which is not cumulative he will replace one your first two test with that grade IF IT IS BETTER.
If you show up to class like 90% of the time and take notes, you should at least get a B
He is a great teacher and really works with you to get a good grade. You don't need the book and if you follow along with the lecture notes and go to S.I. You don't have to go to class.
PASSIONATE! Dr. Rahman made class enjoyable to attend, I highly recommend him for all UofA students.
I don't know how he is as an actual teacher, but taking an online class with him was the worst experience ever. He didn't teach us or even post online lectures like he was supposed to. I can't even call him our professor. The class was insanely hard and he provided 0 reviews, we were on our own. Whatever you do, do not take online with him!!!
This was by far the worst class I have ever taken. I took it online during the summer and it was awful. No lectures or videos of him explaining anything. You must read the book and do all the assignments (that are super hard because there are no lectures). Tests are extremely difficult and wordy- I made a 74 on the first one and a 50 on the second.
Never take this class online. He is non existent, no lectures, you have to read the entire book and take reading quizzes and do 3 homeworks for each chapter which are extremely difficult because there are no lectures. I emailed him 3 times this summer semester and got 0 replies. Tests are stupid hard and you have no idea what to study because he
I don't know him as an actual teacher, but whatever you do, do not take his online class over the summer. It was nearly impossible and I spent countless hours each night working on the very difficult homework. He was supposed to provide online lectures each week-never provided any. Insanely hard and way too much work for a basic business class.
Rahman is a very passionate teacher, but when it comes to tests, there are a lot of questions that don't have a "right answer" there are just "less wrong answers". His tests are very hard even if you attend class regularly and study. They are deliberately tricky. As a teacher he is ok. But his tests are unfair.
Whatever you do, do not take this Dr. Muhammad. He is the worst professor I have ever had in my two years at the university. His test are impossible. There is not a clear right answer on them, there is just one that is "more right". His lectures are boring and hard to follow.
His accent is hard to follow at first but you get used to it. His lectures seem much longer than they actually are and he will stick with one topic longer than he needs to. They way he explains some things is very confusing. He also does not help that much with preparing for an exam.
Dr. Rahman is probably one of the better professors I've had at UA. You literally have to go to class to know what will be on the test. Go to the review sessions, the SI Leaders do a good job explaining. Also, he always gives back percentage points because his testing policy says that if the whole class missed it (60%) then he gives it back to us.
Rahman is a really nice guy, but he struggles to make the content interesting and struggles to actually teach the material sometimes. He tries really hard to make sure his students get the grade they want, but his tests are very hard and he really does not provide much direction. Posts all the lectures online so class is optional.
Bruh... honestly I have no ideas why professor Rahman is rated poorly. This dude chill. Dr. Rahman is one of the best economics professors there is. He always makes sure his students understand the material and always gives extra credit on all his tests. HIs tests are very easy, just look over all the practice material he posts and y'all good.
He really cares about economics, so if this is your major you will probably like him. If its not you will be bored to tears. His test review was helpful for one test but useless for the other two tests. His final review had wrong answers on it. His way of explaining things is more confusing than helpful.
Great class and techer
Terrible professor. Very unorganized, and does not plan ahead, not clear on course requirements. Does not take your time or effort required into account. Be prepared to watch hours long video lectures and be unsure of what/how material will be covered during the tests. Also, a very critical grader of those tests. If you're stuck - good luck.
Dr. Rahman's class made me want to be an Econ major I didn't skip class so I followed the material. But as long as you do the homeworks and quizzes you should be fine for the tests. They're all common sense multiple choice questions and graphs. Go to SI it'll save you time on the hmwk. Pay attention to his in class examples he uses them on tests.
This was my second class with Rahman I didn't do as well because I didn't show up half the time but I also didn't study for one quiz/test and still did okay. I also took this over the summer so class was kinda long and we didn't have enough time to cover all the material but even what we didn't cover was on the tests.
Rahman is a very passionate teacher but fails to prioritize what will be on his tests into the lectures. You can study for hours on these tests and still do very poorly if you do not understand the concepts. There is very small room for error and the test questions are as difficult as they come.
He lectures on one thing and tests on another. His tests are way too heavily weighted which makes it impossible to get an A. He fails to cover test material and doesn't move the test date, just crams material or makes it supplemental material. He also only gives 2-3 to do each assignment but will forget to upload it and wont move the due date.
He wastes too much time on the beginning chapters between tests and then crams them into the last bit of time. This compromises the understanding of these chapters and doesn't help your overall grade. I have to take his micro class next semester because of other conflicts and I feel as if I'm setting myself up to fail.
He is very hard to understand and he gets mixed up almost every lecture. Every time he starts trying to explain something he realizes he is wrong and has to correct himself which makes it difficult to know what is true and what isn't.
The tests are really confusings. I also don't feel like I really learned anything because he makes the class so boring. Also he is not organized in his online class and he doesn't reply to emails very well.
The man knows what he's talking about, but his ability to relay that information to students via lecture or notes is non-existent. Be prepared for the hardest exams you've ever taken; they rarely reflect anything in the textbook or his notes. His video lectures are close to three hours long and are extremely hard to understand. Study study study
One of the best econ professors on campus. He's a fair grader and as long as you do the assignments you'll know exactly what will be on the exam. Great lectures and interesting content.
Very nice guy, but either doesn't know the information or just does not now how to communicate it. His accent is usually very easy to understand, but sometimes it gets a little tough. It also seems that he's lacking a big English vocabulary because he uses terms that do not always fit in the sentence. Homework and quiz's are online and easy.
He is a really nice guy, just not the best professor. Every single day in that class I was bored out of my mind and super confused. He takes forever to go over one thing when in reality it isn't that complicated.
Dr. Rahman did not respond to any of my emails during my 5 week online course and forgot to tell ProctorU about my accommodations for half of my exams. We also didn't start SI until 3 weeks into the 5 week course, and were not given all of the extra credit that was outlined in the syllabus.
He is a nice guy, just makes it way harder than it needs to be. Takes forever to go over topics and goes way too into detail about everything.
Homework and quizzes only account for 32% of your grade the rest comes from very in depth test! If you are not a good test taker and do not enjoy the reading I highly recommend not taking this class!
Hes a nice guy but its hard to understand what hes saying sometimes. Also hes got good in class problem sets but they have nothing to do with what hes talking about. Going to class is pointless because you wont learn anything. And he never announces when you have homework so you constantly have to check. He has no idea how to use the internet
Dr. Rahman was honestly one of my favorite professors this semester. His lectures are full of useful information and he posts all of them on blackboard. He is more than willing to help you out but you HAVE to go to him and put that effort in. He also posts reviews for all the test and they are very similar to the test and sooo helpful!
The material is easy but the questions are CONFUSING. If you want to pass this class you need to study his in class questions and sample exams--attempt them each a few times before each exam. This will help you learn his question style. He is caring and will always try to help you but is sometimes hard to reach. His lectures are pretty good.
Overall, a good professor. He really cares and in class will tell you everything that will be on the quiz. If he's going to fast, or the test didn't seem fair--tell him. He's open to change the class around to help you succeed, don't be afraid to talk to him.
He is smart but if economics is not your strongest suit, he will not make it easier for you. His lectures are wayyy too in depth and he over explains material that isnt always that important. The homework is hard and so are the tests, and if you dont go to his lectures, you will miss a lot of info about upcoming tests
The online class is entirely self taught. The SI sessions have one of the TAs explain some of the harder topics, but it requires pouring over power points and recordings from years ago. No prof interaction. The tests are 75% of the class grade so you have to keep up with the material because if you get behind there is not enough time to catch up.
this class is the hardest class I've ever taken. hire a tutor or take from a different professor. it's impossible to know what to study because the review is nothing like the test!
Hes a really nice guy and will make you laugh here and there. If you go to class and pay attention, he explains the material very well. Only flaws are that he might over explain things and hes a little difficult to understand.
People fail this class because they don't understand economics and it's not his fault. great teacher who knows his stuff. You cant study for this class like you would for a normal class. Learn the graphs stupid
He knows his information but has a very heavy accent and talks quickly so I could hardly understand what he saying. He also does not make it clear what information will be tested and goes in to detail on unimportant concepts. I learned all my information from SI sessions. Concepts seem easy but test questions are worded hardly and have many graphs
Worst professor I have had. Learned nothing from him all my learning came from my SI leader. He will not communicate or respond to emails. He does not even respond to the SI leaders for his own class do not take a class taught by him, you will regret it.I have my first test since we moved online tomorrow and he has not communicated with the class.
Dr. Rahman was an excellent Macro professor, and his lectures are usually engaging because he brings up real past events as examples and encourages questions & participation. He gives homework and quizzes online every week but they usually aren't too hard and are good study tools for the exams. He also records each lecture and posts it to Echo360.
Weekly quizzes/homework are done through Pearson website and are straight forward if you read/understand the material. Exams are through ProctorU. You can only see your grade on exams, not what you missed. Questions come from Quizlet or some other tutoring website and are confusing/poorly worded. He is responsive to email about 75% of the time.
In my opinion, Rahman gets more criticism because he teaches a hard subject. He may not be the best communicator, but he cares about his students and has great lectures. This semester, he adjusted the grading scale, gave extra credit, and posted lots of study materials to help. If you pay attention, engage, and study hard, you can pass this class.
Course materials suck. Handouts have errors (uncorrected for years). Poorly written ambiguous test questions.
Hands down my favorite professor. He makes his lectures very helpful and interesting. Very funny and a down to earth person. Offers extra credit if you attend SI and curves test If 70% of the class misses a question. Definitely need to study for his class but he genuinely wants his students to succeed. 10/10.
Highly intelligent with great sense of humor. Cares about students, and wants you to understand how material works in real world scenarios. Lectures are so very important. Most important part. Take notes, and ask questions. You won't pass just by reading book. Tests are very hard, and questions are tricky. Lots of critical thinking required.
The class content is hard, but he gives you all the materials needed to do well, it is up to you to use them. He sometimes asks questions with difficult wording, but he loves feedback and he is willing to help. The due dates are always changing and very hard to keep up with so you really need to go to class to stay up to date.
All the class is are PowerPoints.... fast with going through it. He honestly just made the class harder than it should be.
The beginning of the semester was ok, till around the end where I was struggling, and trying to get ahold of him during his office hour to discuss my grades and questions about the test. Tried 5 times in a row with him promising me that we would meet at a specific time over zoom. Never happened.
This class was somewhat hard for me, make sure you study. He has a thick accent but there are pre-recordered lectures, SI meetings, as well as the book if you want to buy it. He makes it so there are a lot of tools to help study but tests are exactly like homework. Maybe two homework a week if that, just study and you should get an A.
He genuinely cares about his students and always asks how he can get better after each test. Economics is a hard subject so make sure you come to class, but if you dont he records his lectures online. I would absolutely recommend him.
Look the class is easy, somewhat. The homework and quizzes are all easy and if you can't get a 100 on it then you're kinda dumb, mostly bc they are both on your own and you have unlimited time pretty much. The tests are freaking hard though, but on the last 2 exams, he's given over 35 bonus which is over an entire letter grade Trust me to take him!
This professor is the sweetest! He does such a great job giving real life examples that really help put the material into perspective. Yes, it was a very difficult class, but I cannot help but give him grace for all that he does for his students!
His accent is thick but easy to understand. You can also tell that he writes his own test questions but the language he uses. All of his classes are recorded so I never went and just watched online. He gives you all the tools to succeed its just a very difficult class in general. His lectures could be shorter but he rambles about irrelevant info.
Many people might say that he is not one of the better professors but he really truly cares about his students doing well. He is the only macroeconomics professor that does sample tests to help prepare for the actual exam and he is very generous with curving test grades and dropping some grades. Even though his tests are hard they are fair.
Probably one of the worst professors I've had so far. Never finishes his lectures, his tests are the opposite of what he talks about in class, and he blames his students for doing bad and doesn't take any accountability even though the class averages are around the 50's. Do not take him I can't stress this enough.
Do not miss class
This class is very difficult and time consuming. A week will consist of about 3-4 hours of lecture, HW, quiz, and readings. He does post sample exams and added some bonus points to a couple exams. I do not recommend unless it is the absolute last resort. It single handily destroyed my mental health this semester. Good luck if you are taking it.
Muhammad Rahman does not help students. I studied for hours in his class. He only has tests, but he does give many bonus opportunities. When comes to the end of the school year he does not put those bonus opportunities in. I had five bonus opportunities I did he never put in and I should have finished with a B. Thanks Muhammad...
He is very passionate about macroeconomics, and tries his hardest to make sure his students understand. There is only three test in the entire class, but if you make better scores on any of the three test he'll replace your lowest test grades with your highest scores. lots of chances for bonus points. His accent is hard to understand in lectures
He's total vibes. Never a day that I don't walk out of his class and think "wow that lecture went crazy". Super engaging lecturer, draws you in with his passion. Exams are okay as long as you attend class and do the homework assignments. A little bad with due dates but nothing crazy. Do yourself the honor and enroll in his curse (course)!
This professor was very bad. Very hard to understand him and his grading is very confusing. Never puts in grades and teaches things that other Macro economics classes don't even learn. Would not take this class again. He does give lots of bonus points but they don't have much weight in your grade.
Good guy. Speaks with a lot of enthusiasm, slides are informative. Has a light accent. Offered like 250 bonus points total. Very worth it to take this class!
He is a great guy that wants you to succeed. the class is hard, but he gives you SO MUCH extra credit. I finished with a 75 and my grade got bumped up to an A with his extra credit opportunities.
This was the most disorganized course I have ever taken, none of my classmates including myself were able to calculate our grade even after the final because he does not enter some grades until the very end and even when he did there is no way to calculate what you have in the class.
he traded from the slides directly mad my the book, confusing grader, bonus points are cool but my test average was a D, will meet oth you after class but he honestly made me feel dumb for not knowing the material i was asking questions about, i would never recommend this prof to anyone.
250 extra credit points... nuff said
He has a unique grading method, but it does give you tons of extra credit points which is nice. Really good teaching method that helps students learn far better than a traditional teaching method. Very educated professor so might be harder for some students to completely understand what is being taught. Dude is a baller.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
The class was a bit confusing because he was trying different grading mechanisms which was kind of stressful. He offers a lot of bonus points though. He gave plenty of study materials for the tests. Anytime I emailed him I got a clear response quickly.
This professor is very difficult and demanding. I spent a lot of time in the library reteaching the material to myself since he was unclear in class and contradicted himself. He is knowledgable in economics, however he has a hard time communicating the material.
This teacher had way to many grading mechanisms ruining how you take tests. He pushes quizzes back for no reason other then he can't cover the material. Do not take this class.
He is just flat out so weird. He makes you take multiple attempts of things and than looses your tests and scantrons. He requires so many random quizzes and shit that youll probably fail. DO NOT take this class.
This is a tough class, but if you put in the effort needed, you will do perfectly fine. He will not let you fail (it's literally impossible because he offers up to 250 points of extra credit). I did well on exams although his quizzes are hard. GO TO OFFICE HOURS BEFORE EXAMS. He also posts sample exams that are very close to the real exams.
Misunderstood teacher, may come off as rude but in reality thats not what he means. Hes very passionate about what hes talking about but it just sucks that we learn everything through slides. Great guy but you have to go to class and pay attention to do well on tests. ALOT of bonus points given.
Muhammad Rahman loves economics, however he is hopeless when it comes to teaching and running a class. The only assignments that impact your final grade are the exams, for which he provides little to no study material. The material he does provide his students, is given less than 24 hours before the test, and is difficult to access. Avoid if poss.
Extremely difficult to understand, teaches everything about nothing, and he contributes absolutely no effort to preparing you for his tests. DO NOT take this teacher, without a doubt the worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. SAVE YOURSELF!!!!
Three exam grading schemes (you take each twice) A - Points for right answers, nothing for wrong or non answers B - Points for right answers 0 for no answer, - for wrong C - Points for right, points for no answer, 0 for wrong. It's nice until you get A and C, getting a lower grade than others just because you got bad luck on your exam grading type
Only reason I have an A is because of the bonus points. Not a very good lecturer, snaps at us, horrible at responding to emails, constantly pushing back quizzes and tests because he doesn't cover the content in time, never does test reviews, doesn't show your overall grade, makes you take each test twice (including the final). Just avoid taking him
This is the worst professors I have ever had. He is writing a thesis so he treats his students as test subjects. The grading process for the tests and in class quizzes is unfair. You have to take everything twice but your grades are never consistent. He doesnt respond to emails, snaps at people for asking questions and is impossible to understand.
He is an awful teacher and it feels like he wants to make your life harder. Gets upset when you ask questions and makes you feel stupid for asking them. Test are set up unfair and you have to take every test twice. Weird and unfair grading mechanism, but does give lots of bonus point opportunities.
He has weird grading mechanisms. The class layout is very confusingggg. He does give a lot of bonus points though, but the class is difficult for sure. He is quite scary, I never ask questions.
Professor Muhammad has given over 2 letter grade bonus points along with multiple attempts per exam. He lectures often and the exams are weighted decently, but if you're wanting to get an A in this class, you MUST pay attention to his lectures as he explains concepts that are necessary for the exam. You won't know your grade until the end semester.
He was very respectful. He is also a great teacher who knows how to breakdown concepts of each chapter and supplies useful strategies for studying.
I am a 4.0 student and this is by far the worse professor and class ive ever taken. He makes everything 4000x more confusing than they need to be. I attended every class, took good notes and previously got a 98% in macroeconomics and my test average was still only an 85%. 50%+ of stuff on the test isnt covered in class. DO NOT TAKE.
Terrible teacher and makes everything way more hard than it needs to be
The course itself is not that bad, that being said he is one of the worst professors I've taken. Grading is unclear and all over the place, still have not received final grades back on the day of the deadline. Lectures are quite boring and you won't know your grade until the very end of the semester. You get up to 24% in bonus points which is nice
worst teacher I have ever had in my life. the most unorganized person to exist. NEVER TAKE THIS
THE most unorganized person I've ever met. He completely abandons the gradebook and doesn't provide a backup option; he expects you to figure it for yourself. Didn't know my grade all year which is unacceptable. Only good part is the extra credit, but he can't even do that right because he left out about 20 points of extra credit in my final grade.
Dr. Rahman is very excited about economics and has good lectures. The lectures don't translate to the tests and that is a big reason for getting a bad reputation. He gives study materials- prepare with them and you pass. Anything tested comes directly from the book. Mostly people who did poorly didn't go to class or read the materials he provides.
Never again.
Unorganized
tests are very different from lectures, very off topic and confusing. Only 3 exams all year, little daily work. sets you up for failure.
I had Macro and Micro with him, and here's how I got an A in both. Attending class is a must; take handwritten notes on everything! Even if the material is confusing, his explanations clarify. Detailed notes and graph drawings help. Focus on his practice exams for tests, as questions often resemble them.
This is genuinely the most frustrating class I have ever taken. Professor Rahman jumps around his material in a way that confuses even the most diligent students. His teaching style is incredibly hard to follow. Even taking notes in this class, I was dumbfounded at the exams every time. I personally do not recommend taking this class.
DO NOT TAKE. I took this class and ended up withdrawing from it to save my GPA. Your grade is based off of three test and a few homework/quizzes, so you do bad on one you are pretty much stuck with that grade. Went to every lecture and studied for a week before the two test that I took and still ended up failing both.
The worst teacher I've had here, lectures make no sense and don't relate to the exams.
Terrible teacher
Very bad class, I don't like hurting peoples feelings in any way possible but this class was the worst experience of my life. I couldn't understand one thing he was saying the entire semester and the tests are really hard no matter how much you study you won't understand content. You would be lucky to get a C.
I don't know why Dr. Rahman gets all the hate. He's a great professor who is really passionate about economics. He gives lots of bonus and warns you about potential test questions in class. Attending lectures is important because he sometimes verbally highlights important concepts without writing them on the board. Taking good notes are important!
This was amazing. This class changed my life and the way I view the world around me. Thank you Mr. Rahman... you saved me.
All of the reviews are really dramatic, he's a good professor and as long as you study you will do fine. He tells you when there are pop quizzes and does exam reviews. He does have an accent but I was easily able to understand him. You also get plenty of extra credit points to bring your grade up. Econ sucks regardless of who teaches it.
Terrible. Do not take him. Arguably the worst professor I have had.
Bad, no help, tries to make the tests difficult on purpose. Even outlined this point in the syllabus. When I emailed about problems he did not respond. Doesn't care.
Dr. Rahman does not get enough credit. He is FANTASTIC. The homework is easy, and he provides study guides for the exams (which usually have around a 10% curve). Do not be afraid of the other reviews. I have taken his class twice and he is one of my favorites. He cares about your success in the course and makes himself available if you need help.
If you go to class and study what he says you will do fine on the exams. Some homework assignments are confusing because he talks too much to get through the required material. I recommend having him look over your term paper before the end of the semester.
This class was a real challenge, but using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook helped me stay on track. Lectures were confusing, but engaging with the material actively was key to passing.
Honestly the best econ professor I had, definitely recommend taking for intercession, he is very understanding and you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. Discussions were very interesting and to pass you just need to show up to class and do the review in preparation for the exam. Homework was very easy.
Muhammed Rahman where do I begin. For Macro he gives out like 100+ bonus points as well as curves all 3 tests. I'd recommend him as I got an A+ strictly because of the bonus points opportunity. His class is very doable just be ready to take notes and study (mock exam specifically), I got 3 B's pre curve on all the tests and still got a 100+
I took his microeconomics class and it is very obvious he is very knowledgable and passionate about economics. The class is very lecture heavy and he goes over a slide show every day. It is very hard to pay attention. He does curve the tests 10-15% though so the class is very passable.
There is way too much hate against this guy. I understood his accent perfectly fine. His lectures were great. He is a very well articulated professor and he explained all concepts great to a point where I didn't have to study much at all for exams. Even then, you have a sample exam to study and it is very similar Also, he gives out crazy bonus.
