She is a really nice woman. Sometimes she goes through slides quickly and can be confusing, but all in all her class is fair and you can definitely get an A.
You fill asleep every class. I picked her over Tontz. worst decision of my life - take Tontz. I'm a math guy, but her voice is so shrill and class so boring, that it is impossible to stay awake. Do yourself a favor....TAKE TONTZ.
she is nice but the class is hard and somewhat unclear. thought i did really well on the first midterm and bombed it. attendance is taken daily.
She is a nice person yet doesn't explain stuffs really clearly sometimes. And she sometimes skip around materials which make the class confusing. Now she put up more practice exercises in class so I feel better.
unclear explanation, thick accent, boring lectures.... . If I were you, i'd take Tonz
This was her second semester teaching I believe so she's still a bit new. Very unclear at times and often gets mixed up when lecturing. The class is certainly passable, but more work on you to understand whats going on. Teaches off the publishers power point slides.
She even do not know how to teach. Very unclear about the material. Do not post answer on the slides. She just enjoy write on her iPad with unreadable hand writing!!
The subject itself isn't that easy. Pay attention in class and take good notes and you'll have something to refer back to when studying. Powerpoints are a little confusing so I refer back to the notes I take during class. Attendance is taken daily. Overall, a fair professor but because the subject itself is pretty difficult, you have to work.
Understanding of the concepts is key in this class. A lot of mathematical problems on tests so if math is not your forte, take someone else. She is always willing to help clarify anything that doesnt make sense and cares about her students. This class was hard but you learn a lot. Definitely have to work for your grade! Attendance mandatory.
Every class is the ame format - lecture for an hour and a half and taking notes from powerpoint. Tests contain about 75% of powerpoint material the rest (usually numerical problems) are derived from the online Econ lab homework. HW makes up 10% of your grade and is very easy/helpful. She is new to the university I believe and is still adjusting.
She is new but willing to mess with her teaching style. After everyone bombed the first midterm she changed things up and there was a drastic improvement for the second one. Tests appear to be difficult but going back, they really aren't as bad as I thought while taking them. Attendance and participation are part of your grade. also has an accent.
At first she seem's hard but once you understand her testing style, she is actually a very good teacher. She is also always available for office hours and by email and in general a very pleasant person.
Nice professor but semi-hard class. LOVES numbers, so be sure to understand how to calculate problems. Tontz, on the other hand loves the concepts, so pick your professor based on what you are good at. Posts ppts online, takes attendance & participation is counted.
20% of her class is hw which is free points if you do it. She drops the lowest hw. Her tests are very hard if you don't understand all the concepts, and I mean every single one. The math portion of problems are very easy. Basic algebra and switching numbers around. If it's your first time taking econ, expect to be studying a lot
online homework is very difficult. i'd say the exams are not as difficult as the hw. she is very clear during lectures and goes at a slow pace so students understand the concepts. exams contain a lot of math. difficult class but she does a lot to help!
Very hard compared to other Marshall classes I have taken, she is nice and willing to help I just felt like she didn't really prepare me for the test. The reading helps but the online homework is pretty different
She is a wonderful woman! SUPER helpful and clear. Her exams were a bit difficult, but if you work with her in office hours and do the online homework, you'll be fine. If you want to learn economics, take her. I definitely will again.
Homework is very similar to tests. Posts slides online. Attendance not mandatory, stopped going to lecture the second half of the semester. Tests were very easy in my opinion. Very nice woman, but very boring. Teaches directly from textbook. Getting an A is very doable.
Professor Akbulut is GREAT! She is very relatable and personal. A sweet professor who will try her best to make you understand the concept!! Her exams are not difficult but not easy. However, if you attend her office hours and ask questions, you'll be fine!! I have no econ back ground and I got an A. HIghly recommend to take her!
She is such an amazing professor! She is really willing to help everybody. She encourages students to attend class, ask questions and go to her office hours. She has 2 midterms and a final, and she provides example exams before (which are pretty same as the exams) Plus homework assignments are not hard. She is GREAT, take her if you can FOR SURE!
She is the best teacher I have ever had. He is awesome, funny, smart, and adores her job. She makes economics fun and not everyone can do that. As long as you attend class, you should get most of the transmitter questions correct and all the activities correct. Always attend because she explains real well and gives midterm questions during class!!!
One of the best professor i've ever seen! She has an accent but you can easily understand her. Exams are multiple choice and same examples covered in class. If you go to class it is an easy A! Highly recommend!
She is one of a kind (i mean super helpful!) Unlike other Econ professors her classes long around an hour and 15min! She gives homework once every 10days but it helps you to prepare the midterms. Overall she is amazing!
She is very helpful but teaches straight out of the book. If you are not the best at econ I wouldn't recommend her. The book will do a much better job at teaching than her.
She is really nice, but her lectures are not that great. She teaches better when it is one on one. If you do not have an interest in Econ, do not take her. Exams are multiple choice, but her questions are extremely tricky.
She's a really nice lady but if you're not interested in econ and if you dont do too well in pretty boring lectures, dont take her. If you can manage to pay attention she's a great teacher but it's really easy to zone out because she teaches straight from the book and doesn't make it too interesting. Really nice and always willing to help though!
Her exams are hard, no matter how much you study. Her class is too boring. She is very nice, and helpful. She loves economics. My advice: don't take her unless its the only option, then study alot.
Overall a fair teacher. Lectures are insanely boring (especially if you took the class at 8am like me). She has an accent that can be tough to understand at times. She teaches directly from the book and the power points provided by the books publishers. If you aren't good in boring classes, you will not do well.
Her class is very boring and it is hard to focus. Her exams are very hard and have nothing to do with her power points or homework assignments. She gives you example midterms but even if you can do those you still wont be prepared. She is very nice and tries to help but isnt very good at it.
I really liked Akbulut! She is one of the sweetest professors I've had. (I took Tontz for a little and she is much better.) She always checks up on the class to make sure they're following thru out the lecture & she's really helpful during office hours. Her teaching is very calculations-focused while Tontz is theory-based. I'd definitely take her!!
Taken Micro many times before, but she does a great job organizing the course and obviously understands the material well. Lectures are ridiculously boring, though, and tests are hard- she requires you study multiple chapters, but has trick questions and pulls out questions randomly. Very willing to help though- go early for help to get an A.
Overall a great teacher. Go to class and pay attention, and you should be able to get the grade you want. She is very patient and understanding and willing to reexplain a concept until you understand
Solid professor. The material isn't the most engaging, but she does a good job teaching it and wants to make sure you understand it. She is super helpful and her exams are very fair. If you put in reasonable effort, you'll do well. Participating in class will also help your grade too. She knows who is active in class.
I went to every class and am able to do little/ no work outside of class. I've taken econ before, but she does a great job of organizing the information. Definitely recommend looking over PowerPoints before exams, and I also recommend going to classes because she explains better than the book. Overall definitely happy with her.
Not the best teacher. Lectures are boring and tests are a lot harder than the practice ones that she gives out. She can be helpful but the most questions on the exams just look nothing like the lecture.
This rating is relative to other econ professors in my opinion. Our midterms/finals seem much simpler than others, such as Alonso and Cunningham; tests are mostly on the more fundamental concepts. She's eager to help, always responsive to emails and requests for meetings other than office hour. I would def recommend.
Solid econ professor. There is homework, and there are 2 midterms and a final. Fairly challenging, but nothing ridiculous
would recommend. her tests were straight forward just what she taught, i didnt even need the textbook. Some ppl think she is unclear but she is always willing to repeat and help you if you just ask or go to office hours. very numbers based but math for a 9th grader.
Akbulut is the most dedicated teacher, I will not say this is an EASY class, however she really cares about her students and if you pay attention in class, you WILL get it. Loved her as a teacher and im not very good at math
She was very nice and a fairly good professor. She was quick to answer any question you may have in or out of class and could easily refer you to ways of understanding difficult concepts.
She is very nice and patient. Her exam questions are not straight forward. Midterm sample is very useful but much easier than the real midterm.
I have a BA in Econ and I used to work in a field with pertaining to Economics. Case and point I know my stuff. Rahsan seems nice enough, but she is not great at explaining relatively easy concepts and her lectures tend to unnecessarily drag on. Maybe when she becomes a more seasoned professor she will be better at commanding a classroom.
One of the nicest teachers I have had! She's always willing to help her students and answers any questions you may have during class. The course content is not that interesting so lectures can be a bit boring. Her practice tests are very helpful and tests are not that difficult, but you have to study and do practice problems in order to do well.
Her eastern European accent is very thick and naturally makes her lectures hard to understand. She has mastered the art of complicating simple concepts. Her exams are quite tough. If you manage to find the test bank for the book, don't waste your time on the multiple choice questions, she constructs her own based on the long answer math Q's
People said she's chill but this class is anything butYou want to learn? Her lectures will not help, she is confusingYou want an A? Read the book, go over HW 1 Million times, her tests aren't straightforward eitherUnless econ is your forte, and you're not working and just going to school fulltime and have all the time in the world, dont take her
Don't take Akbulut for microecon. It is nearly impossible to get an A (she curved my class 2 percent). Almost everyone gets a B or B - so you end up receiving the same grade as the students who did nothing all semester long.
She's very friendly, straightforward, fair, and practical. 2 midterms and 1 final, all multiple choice. You get practice midterms before each exam. If you study the powerpoint slides, textbook, and MyEconLab assignments, then you will do well. She makes ECON 351 much easier than other profs do. Highly recommend!
Favorite professor at USC!
Prof. Akbulut is way better than a lot of the other profs offered for this class. She is very caring and very approachable. We had two quizzes, a midterm and a final and they aren't too bad. As long as you pay attention in class and reread your notes and/or textbook, you'll be fine.
Very sweet lady. In my opinion funny. She sometimes has a way of twisting simple concepts and making them more confusing in trying to explain them. Overall I think she is a great lady, hard test though. You really need to put in work. If you're trying to transfer INTO marshall, you better be on top of it starting day 1.
This class is not meant to be easy and you need to study a lot to get a good grade. She gives you practice midterms and finals which are helpful and it also helps to look over past HW. She is very nice and tries to help as much as she can even though her teaching style isn't the best. If you put in the work you will get the grade you want!
Professor Akbulut really grew on me through the semester. She is extremely helpful in office hours but during class her lectures are long and sometimes confusing. You have online homework that is assigned but sometimes you do not know you have an assignment because she won't tell you in class. It is a lot of work but I think she's the best for 351.
She's definitely the best professor for 351 at USC, as it is a hard class by any standards. Her midterms/final are relatively straightforward and a lot like the practice midterm/online homework questions. As long as you go to class, take notes, and go over the lecture slides, you'll be fine.
If you pay attention in class, you'll be fine. Tests are very similar to practice exams and in class examples.
econ is a very hard class so there isn't an easy way out of this class but this teacher is okay. i used her office hours a lot for extra help! heard she's easier than other econ teachers!
Way easier than anyone my friends had. Lectures aren't bad (often end early), and practice tests were very similar to real exams. Midterms & tests count for 70% of your grade, which I didn't love, but other 30% was made up of group projects and online assignments that were easy to get A's on.
Great teacher. Though sometimes it's hard to understand her accent but she is very clear with her concept and very approachable!
Accent is a bit tough to comprehend at first, but she gives decent insight into the presentations she gives. You can just read the presentations and the textbook and pass. Her practice exams are extremely similar to actual exams.
make sure to take notes during the lectures, not just on the slides. was expecting bad things bc econ 351 is known for being hard but she made it really clear and def one of the best econ 351 professors. textbook reading before class will make you understand the material better but not required to do well. take her class!
Professor Akbulut is relatively chill. However, lectures can be long and sometimes tedious. But she does put in effort to make them interesting and fun for the class. The tests aren't too hard, just grind before them and you'll do well in the class.
Micro itself is a tough class, but Prof. Akbulut is a solid choice. She is really funny and willing to explain more if you speak up. Tests are pretty hard, and she curves when the class ends, so you don't know what you have until it's too late. The curve only really improved people's raw score a small amount. Be sure to study and show up to class.
While I was hoping for an A-, I'm okay that I received a B+, as I didn't really work as hard as I should for this course. I think Akbulut is great, but not easy by all means. Her tests are weirdly worded but definitely easier than other micro professors. HW, Participation, & the presentation are all easy A's for a grade boost (15%, 5%, 10% weight).
Some people are good at econ, some are bad -- she attempts to bridge the gap. Very nice/sweet and always available. Overcomplicates easy issues and doesn't fully explain some easier ones.
Professor Akbulut is great. She is super sweet, and tries to make class interesting despite the boring nature of micro. The homework and presentation are easy to do well on, and she gives practice exams for her midterms and final. She is a great choice for 351!
Professor Akbulut is such a nice and caring person, Im surprised her ratings are not higher than what she deserves. Her grading criteria and expectations are super clear, and she tries to make lectures always applicable to real industries. Shes always willing to help outside of class, and its evident that she cares about her students success.
Professor Akbulut is my favorite professor for Spring 2020. She is so supportive of her students and her grading is fair. The class consists of 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 presentation, HW, and participation. The HW worth 15% of your grade and HW is easier to do well in. Beyond the class itself, Professor Akbulut acts more like my mentor and friend.
Given the lack of good options for 351x Rahsan is probably one of the best choices. She does care and prepare good presentations, but the material can get boring. Her exams are not impossible but there is a large range in scores as she is not able to communicate precisely and will make obscure questions but refuse to explain if you dont understand
Very good at complicating things Nice personality but not an attracting professor Especially compared to previous Econ professor Very easy to get lost during class
Great professor. I had her for The Power of Personal Finance and she was great. Super useful and relevant class. Highly recommend to anyone that is interested in being financially responsible when they are older. Great class.
She is super super nice, but she is kind of boring. I don't know if it's just the course content that is boring, but I can't concentrate in class. I just read the textbook before quizzes and use the textbook for everything instead of her lecture content.
I took the power of personal finance and the Professor Akbulut is very nice, the class however is honestly not that useful. It's super basic/no brainer stuff, or a 2 hour long (boring) lecture over a formula you could've learned better from a 5 min YT video. My A went to an A- by .09 of a point and I never knew what I missed on the final project :(
I was hoping to get more out of this class and actually learn something practical for personal finance. However, the class was more about using textbook concepts instead of real-world applications. I think I learned more from watching YouTube videos about personal finance than this class. However, it was really easy to get an A if that matters to u
This was the first time I questioned if a Professor knew what they were talking about because I caught Professor Akbulut say incorrect things during lecture. The class itself covers extremely easy material and might honestly not be worth anybody's time or money. Go search up personal finance questions on google and you will learn more.
Rashan is a great professor but the course can be very boring. The homework was pretty easy up until the second midterm. The midterms and finals were very similar to the practice tests she posted so if you want a good grade, it is best to do take the practice tests to have how much you need to study:
Not a hard professor. Most your grade is from the midterms/final, but her practice tests are the exact same with different numbers, so use them. Actually pay attention to the videos, or read the book because this is definitely a self-taught class. You don't have to pay attention in lectures bc they are a repeat from the videos, and can be boring.
doesn't teach well... u will have to learn most of the content on your own
the fact she has the answer keys to midterm practices is awesome also really patient with after class problems love her
I got forced into this class because of late registration but Professor Akbulut is a GEM. Econ is all about the tests, and hers are the easiest and follow the practice tests almost exactly. Also, her 10% HW grade is tough, but I convinced her to offer unlimited tries and agreed! Super easy A even if you skip class, just do the practice tests!
Professor Akbulut made learning microeconomics so enjoyable, far better than what I was expecting. She explains all the concepts so clearly and is always willing to answer your questions in and outside of class. Don't be shy to reach out! Her practice tests are exactly like her actual tests so make sure to heavily use those as study resources.
Amazing and caring teacher. I had a really hard semester outside of school and she was so helpful and understanding of my needs for accommodations. Very easy to reach outside of the classroom. Makes the class super straightforward, engaging, and easy to learn. Minimal homework, good study resources, office hours 10/10. Take her class!!!
Professor Akbulut was a nice professor but in my opinion she would make the course harder than it is. When explaining she tends to go in circles. I had to self study the course most of the time and I was able to find easier ways to solve the questions.
What is she actually saying in class. No one pays attention because she only confuses us more. She needs to find a train of thought and stick to it. It would be funny if I wasn't so confused.
2 midterms+ 1final made up 85% of the grade, questions on real exam is similar to those on practice. Detailed explanation during lectures. Just attend the lectures and do the problems. Overall fair class and fair grading.
knows how to teach, well structured course, really wants her students to absorb the material and will go out of her way in your learning process. AMAZING!
her s0n is da goat ong fr
W son frrrrr
I think her teaching style doesn't register for every student, but even still, if you follow the textbook (which explains things really well) and really understand the practice exams both conceptually and mathematically, you should do well. There's also a Marshall curve (since it's a quantitative class), which bumps your grade up by 2 letters.
Horrendous teacher, chatgpt taught me this class. She confuses you even more
sweetest lady ever. shes kind of bad at explaining concepts tho so i had to do a lot of self studying. but shes so willing to help and does try her best. 3 exams that are relatively straightforward if you study hard. hws are ez 100s since u get unlimited tries
Your grade is mostly dependent on three exams. She provides practice tests, but the real exams are far more difficult. Going to class was a waste of time since she couldn't explain concepts well, and ChatGPT taught me everything. The TA explained concepts better. She's nice, but recommend another professor if you want to learn and do well.
Her lectures are generally engaging, though she does go on tangents sometimes, and while she doesn't record them she posts the notes ahead of time and if you study those and understand all the concepts you'll ace her exams. Her practice exams are pretty similar to the real thing, so definitely do those. Very accessible and willing to help!
Good class overall, she cares about the students and attempts to keep you engaged. Read the textbook and you'll get an A in her class.
Rahsan is awesome! Her lectures are interesting imo but she isn't the best at explaining. But, the course itself isn't too difficult so you can get away without the greatest explaining professor. Besides that, she is very kind (even brought snacks once lol) and her tests cannot be any easier. Just do the practice exams and you will be so fine.
Professor Akbulut was great. Homework had unlimited attempts and was fairly easy. Midterms and finals made up 90% and weren't that hard as long as you studied.
Dr Akbulut is amazing at explaining complex, conceptual things in a really clear way. Her lectures are super valuable and she offers in class help during them. Go to office hours, ask questions. The class is hard as it's all multiple choice exams so even if you understand everything, if you make one mistake it hurts you but she helps you do well.
Great professor, attend office hours if confused. Exams most of grade, every practice exam close to actual test.
Great professor for class was engaging and fun. Brought snacks.
Very easy class overall good professor
This professor is genuinely great. Lectures are well-organized and easy to follow, and they do a good job explaining complex concepts in a way that actually makes sense. Expectations are very clear, grading is fair, and they are always willing to help during office hours or by email.
The course is definitely challenging, but the professor really wants students to succeed. They explain material thoroughly and give plenty of examples.
Good teacher active learning helped a lot. If you do the homework and read the textbook class is managable
