Smart man, but does not TEACH the material. Seems to get a kick out of people failing and makes fun of stupid mistakes in class. Avoid him if you can.
I have gone to this university for three years and Dr. Mehta is the worst that I have ever taken. I would not take his class. I am not saying this because I am failing because I have a high B. I would not take this class with him.
Dr. Mehta knows his material, but he has trouble communicating it. If you can make him laugh, you have certainly achieved something. Don't take his class if you aren't prepared to work or study hard, and even if you are, it is still going to be a ****.
I really love doing physics, but Mehta is a very terrible teacher who doesnt know how to explain the material at all. He is really smart but that doesnt matter, because he is a teacher and to be a good teacher u got be smart and know how to teach. if u dont want an F, never take his class.
I just had to write another rating for this teacher. he has to be awarded the worst teacher. he is very terrible. pls dont take his class, pls! terrible teacher.
Very unclear. At times it seems as if he likes when people fail. Doesnt do real well with students are arent very strong in the subject. Very smart, just not a good teacher!
hardest class to get an A on a test in at uca
For the love of God, take Gaiser instead. Either way it's hard, but this man is picky. 30 times this sem. I've had perfect scores on labs and HW, and then he marks it out for something stupid. I still have a good A in there though. IMHO Gaiser was more laid back about stuff and more helpful.
Unclear in lectures, unhelpful in office, and is nitpicky about small details in homework and labs. I managed to get an A in his class, but I basically had to teach myself. Gaiser or Austin would definitely be better choices than Mehta, though he's still a big step up above Woolverton.
This guy is absolutely THE BEST professor in the Physics department; I hardly ever studied, and always made A's on my exams and labs....TIP OF THE YEAR: If you want to make an A in his class, then talk about INDIAN SCIENTISTS, he is really into that kind of**** (LOSER),but thats my 2 cents on him.
Hard to understand what he wants. I read and re-read the book and still made a C in the class. Studied a lot, his tests are really difficult!
The worst teacher i have ever had, he is unclear, unhelpful, and a waste of time. The tests are outrageously hard and you are better off reading the book and not going to class. A three year old that just watched "The Magic School Bus" can explain the concepts of physics better.
This guy flat out hates us and we all hate him. He is by the second worst professor in the universe second only to Satan. No wait he is Satan! Ahhhhhh!
looks at you like you're stupid if you don't understand his lecture. good class if you like teaching yourself.
He really is a horrible teacher, he hates to teach, he hates his classes and will make u feel real dumb when u ask him questions! I would never take him again, FOR ANYTHING!
Very dry lecturer, but on the plus side everything on his test came from the book. After I figured that out I just read the book and got an easy A. He has a quirky sense of humour if you can filter it out of the boredom that is his lecture. Sometimes I was the only one laughing.
So boring. Not too difficult as long as you study what he tells you to. Not a very good lecturer. Labs aren't too bad. His voice will soothe you to sleep. Didn't curve grades, but changed the entire grading scale!
This is the WORST CLASS EVER! Do not take this teacher! His tests..you have to be a phsycic to know what is on it because he sure doesnt help you figure it out. You will learn more staying home and reading the book yourself than going to class. His labs are the ONLY thing that are simple. He gives major curve cause noone passes. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Don't take him if you can. Worst teacher. no examples and etc.

Do not take this class! I warn u. I should've read this site before.
Awesome observational astronomy class. Dr. Mehta was there to help with the "physics" aspect of it all. Don't be afraid to approach him and ask for help! A person can learn a great deal from Dr. M.
Enjoys making students feel inept and confused. Has no desire to offer any help (class, lab, or office). Seems it is sufficient to stand up at the board and work a problem for 45 minutes with little to know explanation. Take anyone else...........
I'm tellin ya, you'll regret it if you take him. (read below)...it is ALL true.
Not helpful and very confusing... see below
I wish I could tell everyone that he is an intelligent man who has trouble teaching. That's is SO wrong. He can't teach to save his life, and his explanations are sketchy and incomplete. The lectures and labs are bad, and he rarely covers what's needed for the test, and goes into great details on things that you'll never hear again. DO NOT TAKE HIM
I took him over the summer and he was a difficult teacher, but I still managed to make an A in the class. He goes into great detail working problems but sometimes I think he has trouble getting the info across. He gave a lot of chances for points. Tests were 110 points possible out of 100. Study and you'll do well.
He is very hard, and is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. He rambles on, putting the class to sleep every day.
Very hard class, does not explain things well. Labs are fun and easy. Gives a big curve.
I was in his class for gen ed physical science and he is extremely hard. He doesn't explain very well, he doesn't answer questions but he does curve the grade which helps because everyone was failing and he drops a test. Our curve was so high that a 46% was still a D.
Worst science teacher I ever had. He reminded me why I hate science three times a week. Class is completely boring, but you don't have to take notes because he puts them on WebCT. Labs are pretty fun, but he gives unfair grades. Gave a huge curve because my entire class was failing. Out of 70+ students, only like, 5 A's. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
This class is completely pointless. I hate sitting through class and labs are only fun bc of group members. He is hard to comprehend bc his english absolutely sucks nor does he know how to relate. He does not help to explain what is on the tests either. DO NOT TAKE.
hey is very knowledged on what he is covering, and he is approachable if you need help! Overall a good professor!
NO!! Dr. Mehta is extremely smart, but extremely hard. I struggled that whole semester. The class lectures are pointless because they are all up on webct. The tests are really difficult. READ TEXT!! the class average for tests was 53. He does drop 2 lowest quizzes and one lowest test score. AND his scaling helps you out, because a 64 is a C in ther
I would not take this professor again. However, I don't like science. He was a little too picky for my liking because he would put random stuff in the tests that he had not even mentioned in class. On the other hand, I did not read every word of the assigned reading. Some people had trouble understanding him; I understood every word. He's hard.
I was very interested in Astronomy before i took this class. Now i have told all my friends never to take astronomy. Dr. Mehta just uses ppts from the book so there is no learning in class. The tests are hard. He is very smart, but not a good teacher.
Don't take Dr. Mehta unless you want a lower GPA, to feel stupid everyday, and want a class that is easy to fall asleep in. I am a senior about to graduate and i took this as an elective and it may have been the hardest and worst class I have taken at UCA.
Just no. I thought astronomy would be cool; instead, my GPA went ker-splat. I had a 4.0 and made A's in every class this semester *except* his. He's impossible to understand, doesn't answer the questions we ask him, and doesn't explain what will be on the tests. He also gives a ton of information that gen. ed. students shouldn't need to know.
While Dr. Mehta may seem antisocial and withdrawn, he is actually rather easy to get along with. He has a sense of humor that only a physicist would appreciate, but if you take the time to talk to him outside of class and show that you are willing to work hard, he is very willing to help: just know that he may not get your question at first.
This guy is horrible. I think he sets you up to fail. Cannot speak clear english, assigns stuff never mentioned on the syllabus, mocks you and treats you like an idiot if you ask for help, lectures on pointless things, assigns things and then wont accept them for rules that he never established in the first place. I had a 4.0... not any more
Dr. Mehta is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had the misfortune of encountering at the University of Central Arkansas. I took Physical Science for General Education with him. He CAN NOT TEACH and if you ask for help HE WILL NOT HELP YOU. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES! I read many awful reviews about Mehta from this website but d
I read many awful reviews about Mehta from this website but decided to give him a chance. Unfortunately I am forced to encourage you to avoid this professor at all costs. He doesnt care about his students and will not help you. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS FROM MEHTA!!!
Not a good teacher. Lecture is reading of the examples given in the textbook. The homework is totally different. Rude in lab. He is an overall okay guy in life. He is however the worst teacher I have ever had. Good Luck if you take him. Hope you love algebra and teaching yourself.
Not a Dr, just associate professor - and you can tell. First, his english is not great and the problem is magnified when he tries to say big words. The best way to study for his exams is to read the book, as his powerpoints are scattered/useless. He is very rude and is NOT interested in helping you. Just keep up with the material to have a chance.
If you can't avoid taking physics at UCA (which you should), at the very least: don't take Mehta. He is caught up in his teaching principles, but has completely lost (if he ever even had) the ability to relate to students. He's mean, strict, boring, and the antithesis of helpful. Also, oddly, he reminds me of my grandpa, but not in a good way.
I only took him bc my Phys sci. teacher died. I had prolly a low D until he came. I came out with a B somehow. He was an okay teacher, just boring...EXTREMELY.
Guy is completely useless as a teacher. with over half of the class failing and a complete inability to relate to students this class is easily made into a joke. Extremely difficult being that he doesnt teach DO NOT TAKE! my worst UCA experience to date.
he is rude, and doesnt help you when you ask questions. he will let you keep old tests but when it came down to the final, studying the old tests didnt help at all. his grading is helpful because he will count an 87 as an A, but i ended up with a 62 and got a C. i was just thankful to be done with his class
I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND THOSE RATINGS. THIS CLASS IS NOT HARD AT ALL. LIKE ANY PHYSICS CLASS YOU HAVE TO STUDY IF U WANT AN A. DR MEHTA IS JUST A STRICT TEACHER, NOT A BAD ONE.IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, GO TO HIS OFFICE AND HE WILL ALWAYS HELP U OUT. ALSO THE TESTS ARE REALLY EASY IF U STUDY WELL AND HE GAVE SOME GOOD BONUS POINTS. TAKE HIM!!
This class was exrememly difficult. He did not show any interest in the students. He gives study sheets online, but he words things weird on the test to where you can't understand it. You don't have to go to class, but he gives random quizes from the lecture that day. He is boring, hard to understand, and mean!
This class is very hard. I did have to get help from someone else. However, he is very helpful. He gives enough homework to help and posts everything on black board. Show up to all classes and labs and you will be fine. He also bumps your grade up. Mine was a whole letter grade.
He expects you to know the lectures, book, power points, labs, and online study guides. Im sure science majors are fine but if you aren't interested it seriously blows. He doesn't check attendance but missing the at least once a week pop quizzes add up. STICK IT OUT THOUGH! The other person was right, I had a D and he passed me with a C!
I dropped his class because I was failing. He seems too smart to teach because he can't connect well with the majority of his students (including me). I'm an English major - that probably proves I can't take science so well in the first place. Definitely look into other professors if you can.
The class is not interesting and it seems as if he hates doing his job. In order to pass the class, you have to make sure that you are a regular visitor in his office. For a gen ed., he makes this class feel like it's a major course. Very unorganized and his tests are hard. DO NOT TAKE. I repeat. DO NOT TAKE.
Okay, Mehta gives you all the opportunity in the world to get your homework turned in on time. He warns you and lets you know of things in advance. There are also tons of pretty easy homework, labs, tests, in-class points to boost your grade. Also, his A is like 86 and up, a B is like 76 and up. It's pretty nice. ALso, his accent is distracting.
Not the easiest by far, however not a bad isntructor. You can tell he really enjoys what he teaches but you MUST study! Study the practice tests online he takes some of the actual test questions from there, otherwise questions and format is similar. He does take attendance especially when he notices several absences. Willing to help if you need it.
You will have to teach yourself the material, when you come into lecture he turns off the lights and reads from powerpoint. No interaction with class. I find it easier to learn the material by reading the chapter yourself. Test ALWAYS have bonus, and if you study how you should you can make an A. Bad teacher though
NEVER TAKE HIM!!!! I heard he was the worst teacher on UCA campus, but I had my doubts. I took him my junior year and severely regretted it. He makes constant mistakes while attempting to teach and has a bad attitude. I have a 3.8 GPA and dropped him because he simply does not know the material... Worst teacher I could ever imagine. Take Dr.Menon!
The material is very easy, however he makes it extremely hard to understand. He made an impression of someone who extremely dislikes teaching, and someone is making him to do it. He seems to be smart and good as a person, but he is just a horrible teacher. Do NOT take him, because he has no interest in teaching you.
I loved Dr. Mehta. I took him in the summer for physics 2 and he was really good. He made sure that everyone understood the concepts before moving on. He was always available to help one concepts that were tough
Do not ever take him, he is horrible at helping you understand the work. His test are hard and majority of the class is failing
By far one of the worst professors I have taken at UCA. Physics is hard already, however to have a professor that can't teach is another story. His test are incredibly difficult. Stay the whole in in lab and lectures are monotone. Will NEVER take him again.
One of the worst professor in my entire life! Lectures are not helpful at all. Never stops to ask if anyone has question or if he need to clarify something. He does not care if student understand the material just wants to be on schedule. The university really need to reevaluate his teaching skills.
I wouldn't recommend this teacher. He doesn't teach really, its more of a monotone droning that is not helpful. I have an A right now but I'm the only one in my class that does. I took AP Physics 1 and 2 in high school so i already know all the material and have done all the labs before. He's uncooperative and very hard to find outside class.
Labs are easy and grades fairly leanient on those but the actual course is awful. his lectures are basically useless and he can not engage one person to save his life. i cannot keep up with him and have to teach myself everything from the text book
Class is the usual you would expect from any science class except his lectures are useless, but class attendance is mandatory. He's never once asked us a question to engage with us, so don't count on a lot of participation. His test don't come from his lectures, they come from the book. He is very straight forward, no humor.
I shouldve listened to the others. Dont take him. Worst mistake Ive made this semester. Lectures are pointless, he teaches as if you already know the material, and dont even ask a question hell make you feel so dumb and still not even answer you. Save yourself, and your GPA.
Had to drop. Worst class Ive ever taken and only class Ive ever dropped.
Yikes. Avoid taking. However, if you get stuck with him you could end up alright. UCA has some really great tutors and he is really great about partial credit. Also about 2/3 of the way through the semester he starts curving the crap out of everything. It'll be unpleasant, but if you stick though it, put in effort, and do the work, you'll be fine.
Dr. Mehta's lectures are pointless if you don't already have background knowledge in physics. It's easy to get confused while he's explaining how to work a problem because he never taught it in the first place. Prepare to teach yourself and go to tutoring because he most likely isn't going to help you with the basics unless you go to his office.
This is by far the worst teacher I've EVER had. Not just in college, but my entire life. He expects you to make his class your #1 priority, even though you have other classes. He literally put in his syllabus that he expects us to study 8-10 hours per week OUTSIDE of class. We've had so many tests I've lost count. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Homework isn't hard, but there's a lot. Mehta is the worst. Boring, no class participation, zooms through lectures, expects you to already know what he is saying. Super rude when you ask questions. Talks in circles a lot. Worst I've taken. If you want to pass, read the book and teach yourself the content--his lectures contribute absolutely nothing.
His lectures do not include participation from the class and if you ask a question he either won't answer it all the way, or he will make it sound like you aren't listening even if you're actually just confused. I felt like I was having to teach myself most of this course. He speeds through lectures and acts like we should already know the info.
Didnt ever feel like he cared about his class or that he liked teaching. Very monotone in lecture and could get kind of mean to you in lab or if you asked questions. Wouldve rated 0 stars if possible. Avoid as best you can, though you dont see what professor you have when you register.
teaches exactly off of the powerpoints. doesnt add anything to the lecture.
ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE Absolutely awful in every single aspect of his role, in both teaching and communicating. I strongly urge any potential student to avoid taking classes with this professor at all costs. Without a doubt the worst educational experience I have had in my entire life.
Yikes. I had a physics major laugh and tell me good luck when I told him I was taking Mehta for physics. He would go on random tangents unrelated to the lecture and get upset if you asked a question because you were confused. I was told to "estimate better" on my lab work with no other critiques. Avoid at all costs. Take literally anyone else.
Mehta was HORRIBLE!! You have an online textbook. You never know when homework or connect is due unless you get on the book. He reads slides and doesn't teach, you teach yourself lol. He gets mad if you ask questions. Dude stays getting an attitude. Don't recommend lol if you take him good luck
ATTITUDE. Very nit-picky, and extremely rude. Do not recommend at all. Never wanted to drop a class so fast in my life.
This teacher is probably one of the worst I have had in my life. I have managed to do ok in this class and that is of no thanks to him. I have taught myself everything. He has a bad attitude and is flat out rude a lot of the time. If you get stuck with him I am sorry. He will push homeworks back if you ask. Homework is so hard and takes forever.
If you don't have to take him don't. If you get stuck with him say a prayer because you will need it. You will have to try and teach yourself but could fail miserably. He does curve grades so that is a plus, but I would not hold out hope for actually learning anything. Make sure you go to labs. Also, don't rely on him to tell you about homework.
I was a physicist and a head rocket scientist at NASA up until his class. I have now retired and started to pursue something far away from physics as possible, art. He speaks perfect english and doesn't let you misinterpret anything. His technical expertise is just uncanny. Take him if you need a 13th reason.
I have been in this class for a week and have already dropped. He is awful as a teacher, don't bother emailing him you will not get a response. The course itself is not hard however he makes it extremely difficult with the amount of work he requires and the formats he demands it to be presented in. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. 0/10 NEVER WOULD RECOMMEND
Mehta is an amazing teacher, sure he's tough and hard on you but that's simply because he wants you to succeed it's so easy to pass his class because a 60 is considered a C in his syllabus. I've learned to like him, he tries to be good that's for sure and he's super smart. I was very apprehensive about him at first.
Everyone I sit around has no idea what is going on and hasn't all semester. He has an accent that you can kinda understand. He just stands up and lectures the whole class time and you can barely hear him so sit close to the front. His lectures make no sense because he doesn't explain things well.
He is the worst professor I have had so far. He is not clear in his teaching and gives very muddy instructions. He is unrealistic about his expectations for students in that class and gives very little time to complete assignments or understand material. His labs are also horrendous and he usually keeps students the whole time or even over time.
This is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Even if you try hard in this class you have a low chance of passing. The tests have nothing to do with with the content in the lectures or in the powerpoint. It is easy to get points if you to the textbook quizzes. All I have to say is good luck if you have this teacher next semester.
He does not help with assignments. I cried so many times trying to understand what's going on and he won't tell you. He's quite literally too smart to be teaching a lower division core class. Find friends in class to help, and Knowt has a whole folder titled Physical Science for Gen. Ed. - Mehta.
If I could rate a 0 I would. Literally the worst instructor I have ever had in my life. I have never had a professor speak to me the way he did, especially when I was asking for help. He wouldn't answer my questions, and then I got yelled at for asking another student. Couldn't say enough about how horrible he is. Please do not take him.
Painfully old-school. Rude. Can't read cursive, so don't you dare sign your name on the lab attendance sheet. Write it in print, lest he calls you back up to his table to write your name again. Ask me how I know. Lecture attendance affects your grade. Typical gen-ed professor who can't fathom the importance of classes besides his own.
Probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. The worst lecturer you'll ever have as he is very boring. Do not take him if you have a choice between someone else. This is a class where you will have to teach yourself everything because he can't teach at all. All his tests cover a lot of material and are fairly hard and he gives pop quizzes.
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. His material is unorganized, there's far too much information, and basically not understandably presented. He uses McGraw Hill, never tells you when thing are due, and never answers questions. He goes on tangents about unimportant topics. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Mehta's class is tough, but using resources like the textbook and Unstuck ai can help you get through it. Lectures can be dry, so self-study is key to passing.
