easiest class i have ever taken. he basically gave us the final. really good review. laid back.
best teacer i have ever had- midterms are soooo easy. gives lots of notes but makes class interesting and fun to learn. not strict at all and is flexible.
PROF.KROLL ... HAS BEEN ON THE JOB FOR 21YEARS. THE COOLEST TEACHER YET.I MUST SAY,I TRULY LOOK FOWARD TO HIS CLASS.ALTHOUGH HE GIVES A LOT OF NOTES, IT DOESN'T BOTHER ME.hE MAKES UP FOR THE TORTURE IN OTHER WAYS.LEARNING IS FUN WITH HIM AROUND.
He is good. Take hime, trust me take him. He is the best of the best.
very good teacher
EASY BREEZING. NEED A BREAK FROM HARD LINE COURSES. TAKE HIM. IT'S LIKE EARNING CREDITS WHILE ON VACATION. YOU LEARN A LOT BUT IT'S NOT STRESSFUL TO SIT IN HIS CLASS.YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. HE IS THE MOST LAID BACK GUY I EVER MET AT JJAY. HE DOESNT ACT LIKE THE TYPICAL COP VERY CIVILIAN FRIENDLY.
whatta guy. so nice and willing to chat with the students before and after class. helps u with papers and gives take home midterms and finals. can it get any easier? the material is boring but he makes up for it with cop stories.
Great guy, fun, and helpful, interested in making the student learn, very educated man, laid back, cares about your education.
It will very hard to not get a B in that class, great teacher, plus he lets u out of class early...
He is a great prof. and he is also fun. Easy going and his exams are easy to understand and to take

great
Great professor!!
Alot of boring stuff, but he makes up for it by leting people out early. The midterm and the final are open notebook. The paper is all research on the internet which I did in 30 min. got an A with no problems.
He is a great professor. Makes class fun and easy to understand. He's a retired NYPD so lot's of stories. Take his class you will not regret it.
He is a good professor but be very careful. Make sure he has all of your work jotted down in his book for grading.
He is a great professor up there with professor Kimora. He understands all the material in depth and is realistic about its application, sometimes citing familiar personal experiences he has had with the material while being in the NYPD for 20 years. This is also very helpful in understanding what is practical. His tests are straightforward no bull
he's easy just write too much even though is never on the test just read the text books, o took him twice for 101 and 102
One of the best professor at JJ!
prof. Kroll is a great guy,as long you show up for class each time, you will do fine. Be prepare to laugh in class. :-) this guy is very funny, also he's a sgt for the NYPD with over 20 years on the job. Prof Kroll make PSC 201 very interesting and easy to learn. He also made PowerPoint Presentation for the entire chapters.
Great professor: 21 years in NYPD a lot of stories and very helpful in the exam's. Take him and you will be OK.
he's interesting and very helpful
enthusiastic, fair, actually teaches
Good Professor
Hilarious professor! I didnt like his grading system too much (one paper and that was your grade which is both good and bad), but he's worth taking.
Funny guy, has lots of practical experience in the field. Doesn't put much effort into lectures, and is a very easy grader. You get a few things out of the class, but dont expect much
the class is not easy it is so damn complicated he might be nice but he goes way to fast and explains nothing the book is so expensive i took this class as an elective and found it so hard and complicated i wouldnt expect much either he might know his field but its no use to us i took the class n brought the book without learning crap about maps
Professor Kroll is a very computer literate, Arcmap savvy educator who really wants his students to learn. Its a priveledge to learn this guys material about crime mapping and he is a pleasure to talk to. You will come out of the class knowing how to use a great software. Great professor, really down to earth, up there with Kimora but is a dude.
The class was hard, be prepare to learn and make sure you have the textbook with you or you will be lost in his class. He is very computer literate and will help you if you are stuck in the certain point in ArcMap. He makes the class enjoyable and a great professor.
Absolutely outstanding. He goes at a supersonic speed but will always make sure you're following. Never hesitates to help. Wonderful Prof.
Awesome prof!! For such dry and boring material (research methods), he made the class fun. He cares about his students and understands when dealing with work/family obligations. Great guy, great prof!
i loved him! He realy does try and make such a boring and hard subject fun. you only have a midterm and a final. the finals take home. he goes a litle fast but its only because he tries to help you out a lott on the tests. hes awesomee i would really reccomend him
He is great. No book needed for his class. Must attend class, he randomly collects class assignments that he walks you through. Very laid back and cool. He's humorous and a police officer so he has interesting stories. Would take him again if I can. You will not regret taking him. GOOD LUCK.
most helpful teacher at jjay. he a student and understans what we go through and makes statistics as painless as he can although he moves fast but practically gives you the answers on the final and midterm. take him if you need a stats class.
If i had to take this class over again I would because I know just how hard it is and just how easy this prof tried to make. He does go rather quickly so prepare to take really good quick notes. More than fair and very helpful, really cares about students. You cant go wrong
TAKE HIM, EASIEST PROFESSOR AT JJ. 13 ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS HE DROPS 6 OF THEM. MIDTERM AND FINAL ARE TAKE HOME EASY A IM TELLING YOU TAKE HIM
This professor has taught me a lot through the spring 2011. Kroll makes the class easy to understand, however it is not an overly easy class to understand without a good professor. I would recommend this professor for any class he decides to teach.
Excellent professor. I took an online course with him over the summer and it was just great. 7 assignments and 1 final paper. Professor did not require a textbook, reading material was posted on the blackboard. If you do the reading you are guarateed an A. Just follow his rules.Prof. Kroll is an easy greader. Take him, you will not regret.
Prof. Kroll class is an easy A if you do the readings that is assigned on blackboard. If you do the reading and follow the directions you will definitely pass. This semester there was 8 assignments and 1 ten page paper which basically consist of a whole bunch of charts, so your not really writing that much. I highly taking Prof. Kroll. :)
Lecture material on BB but even prof notes it's dense! He will meet w/group if enough students requests to explain important concepts of statistics assignments (1-5). He will work w/u, dont suffer in silence! Great 4 future researchers! Take his class, even if research isnt in your future!
He is a great professor. His Lectures are clear and to the point. He know the material very well and does his best to teach it to the students. In addition, he would make you not hate advanced statistical methods. I love statistics, and learned a lot more from this class. He is encouraging and supportive.
Kroll is a really nice guy and an awesome professor. As long as you show up to class, it's an easy A. We just had to make a few maps and give a presentation at the end of the semester. Nice and easy.
Crime mapping was such an awesome class. Professor Kroll makes the class fun and its very easy if you pay attention. No exams, no textbook, just a 6 page paper and a small project. Assignments are done in class weekly. Make sure you go to class everytime or you will be lost for the next class.
Took attendance sometimes, 2 papers with 40%, the other 20% was attendance, participation etc. let the class go early often, funny sometimes but his class was hard to comprehend and sometimes very boring. Really nice guy though. and he's very smart.
Prof. Kroll is very enthusiastic about teaching. He brought back the desire to teach at college level. His way of approaching hard subject is amazing. Learned a lot in his class, and because of him and his inspirational teaching methods, I now teach myself. Kudos to him!!!
Professor Kroll is such a funny & sweet guy, however I barely understood anything in his class (probably because I HATE theory). He's laid back & doesn't assign much work. We had two 6 page papers that he grades leniently & takes attendance when he remembers. He tries to make the class interesting, you should give him a try!
Professor Kroll is really a wonderful professor and one cool guy! There are NO tests or midterms or quizzes for this course, all he asks is that you show up to class, be courteous and listen, and leave the course having learned something. There is a 10 page paper at the end which is on a topic of your choice. Easy A & you learn a lot!
He is one of the best professor. All you have to do is take the note if you don't wanna buy the book and you will be good. one midterm and one final! NO PAPERS. All the exams come from the lectures. DO NOT MISS THE REVIEW CLASS! EASY A
He's one of the easiest professors out there. Extremely chill and gives funny stories about his days at NYPD. His lectures are straightforward, and he tells his students what the tests will be like.
Professor Kroll is an ass. If he sees an opportunity to humiliate a student for his own personal gain he will take advantage of it. He enjoys making the students laugh at the expense of others. However, when he is in a good mood he will turn around and help the students in any way that he can. He is moody, unpredictable, and disrespectful.
Prof. Kroll is well knowledgeable in his field of law enforcement. He yells and screams when the students ask too much questions about the assignments in class. Sometimes he gets frustrated easily. To be fair, at the end of the day he has more good in him than bad. However, sometimes he is moody and unbearable.
Professor Kroll is an easy A for Crime Mapping. But his lectures are boring, and you will not learn anything. There are two essays and in class projects required. I doubt that he even reads the essays. Kroll probably gives an A to the students he likes. Poor deliverance as an instructor. Some people say he is a nice guy, others beg to differ.
If you're looking for an easy A, and don't want to learn anything, this is not your guy. Unfortunately there are a ton of imbeciles at this school and he can't help those who choose not to show up and work. Want to be educated? Want to be something in life? This is the professor to take, and he's more than willing to write recommendations.
Good Professor. Took him for CRJ751 over the summer and I looked forward to go to his class. No tests, which is good, but we did have paper due at the end of class as well as in class assignments.
Hardest class in CJBS major. Data and research methods is not an easy class. But he does his best to make you understand what the hell is going on. You will be writing a lot as He uses PP. Gives you cheat sheet for final exam. You're gonna need it. If you need help in final paper, go see him as he will help to the point were he gives you the answer
keep telling you to not to worry about the work/tests/etc. when it comes to the final grade, he will screw you up. so if you have to take him, make sure you keep track of your grades and don't take his words.
Kroll is by far one of the best professors at John Jay. Had an amazing semester taking him for crime mapping. This guy is a STATS/DATA pro! Extremely funny, super positive, always going above and beyond to tell his students. take him you will not regret it.
Good professor, hes funny, makes it difficult for someone to fail 25% Midterm/ 25% final/ 20% Participation/30% Research Paper. His test reviews are great, he gave us the questions and a extra credit test worth 20 points, making it impossible not to get an A. No homework, just make sure to take notes. He offers extra points if you answer questions
Great professor!!! basically he doesn't want you to fail so just do what he says to do and you'll get your A!!!
You'll be taking a copious amount of notes in Prof. Krolls class. Study the notes, read the book and pay attention in class because the study sheets are long but will not help you much
He is very educated on the material he teaches. He goes through lectures really fast and it can be difficult to retain all the information because he gives a ton of notes. No tests or quizzes. No midterm. Just two parts of a research proposal literally 2 pages and the final exam which is open notes.
He is a great professor. He gives out points if he asks questions which later will be added to your grade. GO TO CLASS! miss a day and youll be lost. Ask questions. CJBS 250 is no joke so dont treat it like it is!
Wonderful, down to earth guy. It's a dry subject but he'll do his best to make it entertaining. Do some reading and look at your notes; he gives "automatic A" questions + extra credit during the lecture, but you gotta be quick. He has a ton of exp. in the field; definitely a connection you want to make and save. Plus he's funny.
The class is hard and he rushes through the notes. No one understand anything that was going. He told you not to worry then eat his word, you don't know you did horrible until the last day. Want a F take his class!!!
Worst!!!! professor ever all he does is gives a lot of notes and expect us to understand. Bare in mind we have to use what we learn in class, for the test and research paper. He is a hard grader. If he says do not worry, you better worry!!!
Horrible online class. Never got anything below A's. Quizzes are 5 confusing questions each. He gives a very short time to answer them and they're worth a lot. Rude when asked for extra credit when I explained his quizzes are hard to pass given the time span. Also, if you get even 2 questions wrong, you are bound to fail that quiz with a 60%.
5 question quiz every week. But extremely easy. And one paper at the end of the semester.
Took professor Kroll for the fall semester, thought I had taken the best online class 2 semesters ago until I took his class. His class was by far the best online class, well organized all the work was given out ahead so you can get your work done beforehand. If you are a working person juggling kids and going to school this is the class for you.
Online class was clear and cut out. Weekly assignments. 5 questions. Read the lectures and quizzes Research proposal due at the end of the course. That is assigned at the beginning of the class
The final paper is what determined my overall final grade. I wish there was a final exam rather than a paper. Professors can give whatever grade they want for papers. A final exam is much easier to study and get the grade that you actually deserve. That's why I got a B- , I hope we all can take initiative to enforce final examinations.
I hated this semester. This professor made the online class very hard. Most of my other online classes were easy, got As. Like why do I even live? My existential crisis begins.
Took his online CJBS 250 class and the quizzes were really difficult for a 200 level course & had a time limit. After the whole class basically failed the first quiz, he became more lenient & allowed multiple attempts for the quizzes. He grades by few things, 60% is final paper and 40% is quizzes so if you fail a quiz, youll lose points quickly.
this class is graded by only 4 quizzes and 1 research proposal that is the final. quizzes worth 40% of the class and research proposal is 60%. no discussion boards. quizzes might be complicated but answers are in the book. quizzes will have unlimited attempts. he will post the highest grades. research proposal is not hard at all.
Don't be discouraged by any previous bad reviews, Kroll is a great professor and has tons of NYPD OTJ experience. Easy class 4 quizzes and a research proposal for the final exam. If you don't want to be overworked take him. Kroll gives multiple attempts so if you do bad on the quiz the first time you're allowed to re-take it.
I am an active law enforcement and took his class to finish my degree, his class was fully online. He posted all the work required in the beginning and left us to work on our own pace. Clear grading criteria. Easy material i was done with everything within 4 weeks of the class. Easy class for those who work. glad we still have prof like him.
Hes the BEST !!!
Best professor very understanding. Only 4 discussion boards and 4 quizzes and an easy research proposal in the final. Should take him!
4 quizzes, 4 discussion boards based on the chapters in the book. You must choose 3 peer reviewed articles from the librarys website and use them towards your research proposal which must be five pages. He provides a great structure for the research proposal so definitely follow that. Also posts everything from the start which is great.
4 Discussion Boards, 4 Quizzes and a research proposal. Took this class asynchronously. Each DB does have a requirement of 150 words and response of 150 words. You do have an opportunity to work ahead with the work, class is straightforward. Gives good feedback and does give out reminders regularly when work is due which is nice.
The best professor ever
There's 9 assignments all semester long, including the final assignment, the proposal. The only semi-hard assignment is the research proposal. This class is beyond easy. Take it if you just want the A.
Prof. Kroll is an easy A even though I received a C, that was on me! Be sure to participate....respond to discussion boards, that's where my C came in. He gives all the work upfront so you have to whole semester to complete. I would take his class again just to improve but overall, He is an easy A.
This was a great class. His syllabus is very clear. Make sure you do your work on time and you won't lose any points. He did not accept late work, but thats understandable since he gives you more than enough time to complete assignments. 10/10 would recommend.
Discussion boards every week, 2 replies to peers. There will be few quizzes, but they are online, and you can take them on your own time. 1 research proposal outline and 1 research proposal. It is a very easy class, just write DB's and the paper, easy A.
Great professor. His class consisted of five quizzes throughout the semester and 12 modules, which are open since day one, so you have enough time to complete them. If you do miss one of his quizzes, he gives you a chance to write a 2-page paper on the chapter the quiz was based on. 1 final progress research proposal and a final research proposal.
The class was well-organized, with manageable bi-weekly discussion assignments. However, the quizzes were frustrating because some questions lacked clear answers even after reviewing the materials. The final 5-page paper, though, was straightforward and easy to complete. Overall, the course was manageable, but the quizzes could have been clearer.
This professor was clear with what he expected from the class. 12 DB, 6 quizzes, and 1 research proposal. His assignments were clear and cut. The professor is not a harsh grader. Would definitely take this course again.
