He was an alright professor. Knew what he was talking about and really focused on solving equations in class. He has I think 3 quizzes and 3 tests. Quizzes helped a lot. Want the students to pass. Open book tests with equation sheet. I just didnt understand the subject so I got a bad grade but I know many others did well.
Prof. Raja is a good teacher. He knows the subject well. I have learned a lot from him. The best part about him is his concentration on solving problems rather than spending too much time on theory. I recommend him for those who plan to take physics with him.
Dr. Raja is the best physics teacher I've had.I took this class as a Freshman which could be very hard. But his profound knowledge of the physical world and good mathematical skills really spoke to me.I end up getting a high A in that class.I would definitely recommend him to those who will be taking classical as their first upper division course.
Good teacher. Knows the material well and puts together a good lecture.
Dr. Raja is AMAZING! His is very clear, if not always concise. He CARES about his students. He is willing to answer even the most basic question. He reviews the math required to solve the problems and equates terminology from lower physics. My only complaint is that I cant take him for everything.
Great lecturer. Knows the subject well. Gives lots of homework and tough exams. He does not use the textbook too often. He presents his own lecture notes, which are better than our textbook. I've learned a lot from him but had to drop the course for personal matters.
Physics 423 with Dr. Raja was a good, rewarding experience overall. His lectures are filled with examples from the text books and he brings a seasoned perspective to methods of approach. Exams are tough due to some problems seeming a bit abstract and the abundance of course content. Homework accounts for 25%, participation for 5%, and exams for 70%
Dr Raja is an amazing teacher and very kind. Love his clas, the great thing is he solve a lot the examples. He will answer any questions and always there for his students. Physic is not easy but he make it easy to understand. Will take his class again. Really enjoy his class. He makes class more fun.!!! Dr Raja number 1.
There is a lot to be learned from Dr. Raja. He's passionate about the material and presents it quite well. Grading is based on multiple homework assignments and 2-3 exams.
Mechanics is a great class, largely due to Raja's amazing lectures. He teaches from very clear and organized lecture notes, and can explain tough concepts in an easy manner. HW about every 2 weeks, had to read a little but most info I received from the lectures. I learned a ton from him and would definitely take him again. Highly recommend!!
Lucked out and didnt have graded homework because there was no one to grade it BUT he did assign problems to do for practice. He's a funny guy who teaches the material well. Take notes and practice problems and you should pass. 3 tests total. Reasonable professor to take.
Very knowledgeable, focuses on doing examples in class, but does little to explain many of the equations. 2 tests are 60% of the grade. Doesn't give any study guide or formula sheet for tests so either know the material/read the book thoroughly or get lucky copying one of the examples he used as a test question onto your allotted note sheet.
Dr Raja is a very knowledgeable professor and answers any questions you have. He grades fairly and presents excellent lectures. I usually do not to read from the textbook because he gives very well-written lecture notes and examples. He does not give extra credits and gets mad at you if you do not pay attention. Take physics from him!
Raja is the best Physics professor I had. He goes over problems during lectures to make sure students understand how to solve the problems. There is a midterm and a final(30% each), homework, and quizzes(online). Pay attention to the problems he says that can be on the tests and study those problems. I want him to teach PHYS 182!
Dr Raja is a funny guy who will lecture the entire hour and 15 min. Lots of online homework and three online quizzes which aren't hard because its open book. Just make sure to stay on top of the due dates because he sometimes changes them without making it clear. There's only a midterm and a final for this class. So make sure to do well on those.
Dr. Raja is a great lecturer. He goes through multiple examples throughout the whole class period. Very nice outside of class as well. He was very helpful with going through any homework problems I had trouble with. A few times he accidentally put homework problems with content he has not taught yet. Talk to him and he will move the due date.
Dr. Raja would rather take 10 minutes from lecture to explain a concept or a real-life application than just crank out problems. You can truly grasp relatively difficult information so that it can be well-applied in your career after the final exam.
One of the best professors I have had. The class itself I found it to be quite difficult, but I just truly like his teaching style. Make sure you do well on the Midterm and Final, and you will get a good overall grade.
Great guy! Best physics professor at UNLV hands down.
Dr. Raja is going to be your savior, I promise you. He gives amazing lectures and actually makes sure that everyone understands him before moving on. Grades consisted of online hw, online quizzes (make sure to get Chegg), a midterm, and a final. The material itself was not easy, so be prepared, but most people will do well because of his help.
Raja is great at teaching the material. He makes a difficult subject much easier to understand. He's also a very easy grader. He's not the best at answering questions; he kind of just makes fun of you and moves on, but that's also part of the fun of the class in a weird way. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Best physics professor at UNLV. He takes a seemingly difficult concept of physics and explains it in simple understandable manner in 10-15 minutes. Allows equation sheet in his exams. Very entertaining lectures. Do well on the exams and you'll pass without a doubt.
He teaches using examples which is great and he chooses some of those in class examples to put on the exams. He grades really nicely on the exams. I got chegg cause the homework was a pain and didn't help me. He called people out in class if they were late or on their phone and made rude jokes that he thought were funny. I didn't appreciate that.
Great prof. Funny with his awkward and rude remarks. Don't be on your phone or he will call you out
Dr. Raja does a great job of teaching concepts. The first exam was 5 questions written, and the second exam was multiple choice because everyone did poorly on the first exam. This can be contributed to the exams not reflecting the type of problems we do in class. They are much harder and include steps that you don't practice.
Dr. Raja's lectures are fantastic! He offers good balance between theory and solving problems. The exams (two midterms and several online quizzes) were a little tough but the material was also dense. Just be sure to have Calculus 1 and 2 under your belt for PHYS182.
Dr. Raja is probably my favorite professor at UNLV. The way he explains concepts always makes me want to go home and explore things further for myself. He makes learning fun and genuinely cares about the students. I took him for both 180 and 181 and loved both classes. Don't pass up the opportunity to take physics with Raja. Trust me on this.
His class is incredibly hard, but he made the material interesting. 60% of your grade relies on 10 questions (2 exams) that are nothing like the problems gone over in the lecture or given to you through quizzes. If you have already taken physics or understand the material before taking the class, then this is perfect for you. If not, good luck.
Raja was the best physics professor I took at UNLV. Phys 2 is difficult, but that's just how it is. He gave great lectures and it was always obvious that he was very passionate about the subject. He genuinely cares if the students understand the content or not. Only down side is that grades are based off of only 3 exams. Would definitely recommend
Only physics professor I know of that does multiple choice tests on exams. Totally unheard of having multiple choice tests on math-based classes. His lectures have little bearing on what he actually tests on. I wish there were other Phys181 professors.
This class shouldn't have multiple choice tests - it's a math class. If you make one error on the final step, should you really miss the whole question? Also, the tests are not reflective of the content covered in the course so expect a curve ball. Make sure you study the in class examples for the tests as well as the concepts.
Prof Raja is an excellent teacher. He gives great lectures. He is available outside class should you need to talk to him. The course is hard but he makes it easy to understand. His lectures are truly inspirational. He helps a lot and has passion for teaching his subject. Highly recommended!
professor Almukahhal is very useful during his lectures. He always explains everything thorough without problem. I would recommend Professor Almukahhal to anyone looking to take physics181.
Prof. Raja is a great teacher. His lectures consist of teaching the material/equations then doing practice problems. Online homework can be difficult and the online quizzes are very difficult. The test problems come from the lectures, so study those. However, this semester he did multiple choice tests. Were not good. Hope he changes back.
This class was extremely anxiety provoking & unprofessional. He admitted that he did not pay attention to what he put on the 1st exam, resulting in a class average of 34%. His lecture questions did not coincide with his exam questions, except for 2-3 problems at most. Most of the students resorted to using chegg, and did not retain anything.
He's awesome, take him. Two tests, and one cumulative but selective final, along with a few online quizzes on Mastering Physics. HW mostly-weekly is due on MP as well.
The material is hard especially if this is your first physics class but the lectures were very interesting. He doesn't focus on deriving things but simply works through problems. 2 exams 1 final a few quizes and homework and the exams are curved as long as you try and study you will be fine, one of the best physics professors at UNLV.
Don't take this professor. He's the worst I've ever had. He won't cover any of the same material thats on the quizzes and tests so expect to be surprised by almost every question. Studying the homework/quizzes won't help. He's rude to his students and won't directly address your questions/emails. Other professors say he doesn't know the subject.
This class is a gamble. His tests are only 10 questions and his curve isnt defined. Hes one of those teachers that leaves you in the dark all semester and dislikes answering questions about grades. Most of our class failed each exam and with so few questions on each test, you just have to hope writes them fairly, which wasnt the case for us.
Dr. Raja is a great professor and explains the contents in a clear and insightful way. All his lectures are very informative and clear. I would recommend him for anyone who really wants to understand the subject matter of physics.
Genuinely an awful experience. He was quite rude, 1st exam didn' resemble hw/quiz problems AT ALL. He literally snatched my scantron from me and yelled: "what are you doing." Most people probably failed. He tries to seem nice on email, but he doesn't actually care in-person. Our 2nd exam was online (COVID19) and actually manageable. Total clownery
Professor was great explaining problems. The exams are multiple choice. If you want to pass you must read the chapter before going to lecture and that will get you through the lectures. If you don't you will be lost and confused. I recommend writting down all the examples problems, practice problems, homework and quiz questions. It will help!
I thank prof. Raja for taking the time to create the video lectures during the online transition. All my other professors did not do that. His exams and grading were fair. I recommend this teacher for anyone who wants to take physics.
Professor Raja is a funny professor in lectures, but gives the impression he does not care about his students. Homework and quizzes are not hard, but his exams were brutal in person. It was hard to study for his exams.. a lot of the first exam had concepts from physics 151. Unfortunately, he is the best physics professor you can get at UNLV.
Dr. Raja has a good sense of humor and is honest in wanting his students to succeed. The only issue I have with him is his inconsistent grading. He will not provide you your grade throughout the semester and will instead tell you to calculate it yourself. Several students got grades that were different from their "calculated" grades. Be aware.
Dr. Raja is a very good professor. His class is all about examples, whenever teaching he touches and explains the concept briefly and then does numerous examples which are very helpful. You do have to put hard work into his class- but physics in general isn't easy but he makes it easier to understand with all the examples he does- best physics prof
Dr Raja must be using material from his first years of teaching bc the content of current lectures/hw had NOTHING to do with his tests. Dont expect him to do his job and provide timely feedback either. He only grades one time and its at the end. If you want a prompt reply, dont hold your breath. If you want compassion, find a different prof!
I really appreciate all the time Dr. Raja took to create those video lectures. They are well-done and he goes through solving many problems from the homework and from the textbook. He is also very responsive when you write him. Highly recommended.
Great professor! Great video lectures!
Dr. Raja made the online transition smoothly. His video lectures are helpful and straightforward. There are a lot of examples and homework problems that you can use to study for exams. Good choice for physics
I like the recording lectures he provides. He is very organized with the course. He divides the entire semester into weekly modules. Each module contains one chapter and there are several assignments to do for each module. He gives 4 midterm exams plus a final exam. Everything is clear and easy to follow. Take physics with Dr. Raja!
Dr. Raja is a great guy and very down to earth. Very enthusiastic and genuinely wants to see students perform well. This was the web-based class. All hw and tests via Pearson. Open book/notes for all 4 exams and final. Weekly hw 10 problems with multiple sub parts. Gave points back if needed. Physics was actually kinda fun. Would take for 152.
Dr. Raja is the best PHYS180 professor at UNLV. He's nice and respectful and really wants you to understand the course materials. He gives lots of homework but he solves many of them during lecture time. I would take all my other physics courses with Dr. Raja.
I was unenthusiastic about physics, but Dr. Raja changed that. He's the best professor I've had. He's funny, smart, and the right professor for the course. He made me love physics. Ignore the comments about bad grading, he moved it online and much better. Exams & HW improved the same way. You must always attend class to keep up with the HW & Exams.
He is not the best Prof others claim he is. His HW is online and can be rather difficult. He does not like to respond to emails even though he does not grade the HW or make the Exams. Lectures were in Person and if you ask a question he will act like your question is stupid. He is pretty average at most. For exams your answers will need to be exact
The class was excellent. I learned a lot from Dr. Raja. Obviously physics is hard, but the workload was reasonable and the lectures were very clear. Dr. Raja is passionate about what he teaches and cares about the success of the students. I would take another course with him.
His lectures are great and very detailed. I understood physics for the first time in my life because of his teaching. However, he gives assignments and exams through Pearson. Assignments are pretty easy, since Pearson auto-rounds your answer if you are close. Exams can be really dumb though, because you only get one try and it doesn't auto-round.
I haven't finished the class yet (SP2022) but Prof. Raja is one of the best professors I have had at UNLV. He is very knowledgeable, gives amazing lectures, and is fair. A highly recommended physics professor.
Raja made me excited to learn physics. He goes into detail and includes plenty of information in his lectures, and goes over a lot of problems. He is very enthusiastic about physics and you can tell that he really wants his students to understand why they are doing what they're doing. Tests and assignments were online through Pearson.
he is the definition of an amazing instructor. He is engaging, makes lectures and material easy to understand, he is concerned with his students' ability to understand, he implements material into real world examples, he answers any question as best as he can and he does all of this while also keeping up with his grading.
He's a pretty good professor and is enthusiastic about teaching physics. He goes through homework problems and solutions in class/lectures, with the homework being given through Pearson. My only cons are that he speaks fast and has cursive writing, but they aren't dealbreakers. Given, that if you're new to physics spend some time in this course.
Anyone can get a good grade in his class, so if you want to pass a class, take this guy; if you want to get better at physics, take someone else.
Overall amazing class. Focused a lot on practice problems and often gave his insight as a nuclear physics researcher. Very understanding and caring of students who are willing to put in the effort to succeed.
Dr. Raja is a great professor and teaches mainly through a whiteboard with youtube videos being served as accommodation. Personally, his teaching style doesn't fit me very well; but that's more of a personal insight. He's accessible outside of class; only problem was the final exam, in which it wasn't really representative of our homework/exams.
Raja's teaching skill wasn't for me. He has a big ego and prioritizes catching cheaters more than actually teaching the material. He told the class he intentionally made the final very hard-to-quote-on-quote catch "cheaters". When in reality majority of the class failed because he did not make the test based on homework.
Awesome professor! Dr. Raja is very knowledgeable, interesting and very friendly. I am taking another course with him next semester.
I am really looking forward to taking the second course with Dr. Raja. He works out many problems in class and ensures you understand the material before he moves on to the next topic. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn physics, especially, engineering majors.
Professor Raja is one of the best professors I've ever had! He's very down-to-earth and caring. The final exam was basically the problems we did in class, so attending his lectures is a must. He basically covers a chapter by going over theory and then doing a bunch of problems from the book, which are similar to HW. I plan to take PHYS 196 with him
Raja is a great professor. I would definitely take any course he teaches. Looking forward to taking E&M with him next semester.
His exams are rough. No study guide and is not based on the homework. Don't try to correct him either super rude and is not open to questions.
As a physics major, dr raja is one of the best professors at our department. He is a dedicated teacher and educator.
I just finished this course. The final exams are next week. I just want to say that regardless of the final grade that I will get, I learned a lot from Dr. Almukahhal. If you want to learn physics, take it with him.
Raja is an amazing prof who cares about his students and wants them all to succeed. HW's are online and can be done past the date for full credit. There are 4 exams total. Exams are in-person, and your grade will largely depend on these exams. Attendance is not mandatory but important as he will consider it if you reach out to him for a grade curve
I've taken several classes with Dr. Raja over the years and got to know him well. He is an exceptional teacher. I've learned a lot from him. I am now pursuing my graduate degree at UNLV and have not taken any courses with him. But I saw him the other day and talked for a while. I figured I'd rate him in this forum. He deserves a good word.
Raja is definitely the best with his lectures, as he does a bunch of problems on the board and asks the class for what they have. He's got a good tempo while going through problems and they're easy to keep up with. Tests are alright, there's no study guide and he doesn't tell you anything to review so you just gotta be up to date on the book.
I took this class in Fall 2024 with Dr. Rada, a passionate and knowledgeable teacher. Having a strong background in math and general physics helps a lot, and it is expected since this is a 400-level course. The course is fairly easy, but extra work is beneficial to fully meet the required course objectives.
This is one of the better classes I have taken as a physics major. The professor can make complex subjects simple to understand. You are working on homework assignments all the time. Thus, prepare to put in a lot of effort in this course. Having knowledge in calculus, vectors and basic differential equation is a must.
Pretty good professor, but your grade almost entirely depends on the exams, which aren't the easiest. Goes through hw problems in class, but doesn't really conceptualize the things we are learning in class.
Dr. Raja is a pretty great guy, and although the material was fairly challenging I found his teaching style engaging and easy enough to follow. Lectures generally were a quick overview of theory followed by ~an hour of doing problems; exams were 5 questions and challenging but not overly difficult. HW every week or two, a few hours but not awful.
Raja is a charming guy, and his lectures are very easy to follow. He will talk about the theory of the topic at the beginning of class then proceed to do problems from the textbook based on it. The exams/final were fair as they were all problems that are similar to the ones done in class or in the homework. (not much opportunity to bring grade up)
You have to attend every lecture, he reviews problems similar to exams if not the same. Very humorous and is very passionate about physics.
Dr.Almukhhal teaches good enough he likes to say this or that will be on the exam but is only like 10% true. The homework is online through Pearson along with the classes book think it's one payment of like $80. The exams are very important just ask around for old exams and study those that's the best idea (he sometimes repeats problems). (Hardish)
Professor Raja is a great professor. One thing about the course is that it is very lecture-heavy. If you don't come to lectures and take notes, beware because he uses lecture problems in the midterms. He is a passionate lecturer and a kind professor. Take him if you will come to lectures and actually do the homework.
Dr Almukahhal is the only professor I've ever had that didn't curve when the class average was ~likely~ a D. He's incredibly cynical and goes on occasional rants about how physics has contributed nothing to science in the past hundred years, and he always has to be right. His only redeeming quality is that I only have to take his class once.
