He definitely knows the material but he just goes too fast.I would understand the material in class, and even understand the practice tests, but when he would give the actual test I would be lost. The good thing is that he curves a lot at the end of the semester - given that the whole class does bad

This professor is not Good. He flies throught the material so fast that you forget to breath. If you dont understand something, hell try to explain but all he sais is "this is so simple the answer is this" If you call that an explanation than you have the right prof in mind. He needs to slow dow

Good professor, knows what hes talking about and helps when you need it. Have to study to keep up, multiple choice exam questions can be tricky. Curves at the end so you can get a fairly decent grade depending on how hard you work.

Just pay attention to the class, do the hw, and study the practice exams, you'll do fine. Textbook isn't really necessary, only for the hw. But if u r a finace major, u need the book anyway for next level.

yea, just memorize the book, do ALL the smaple problems, come to class EVERYtime (!!!), buys a study guide, and then MAYBE, just maybe u'll be able to get a c+/B-. she's not as easy as seems at first =(

Tons of case studies, one every week. Brutal grader considering the nature of the cases, very heavy on valuation. Interesting lectures with empathis on discussion. The detail for the case studies is often an unfair burden to working students.

Finance is not my thing, but Nahata made it easier to understand. His tests are from the homework and class examples. He is very big on definitions and concepts on the tests, so studying that is important. He will give clear instrucitons on what to study for each exam. Final is cumulative and is therefore hard, but all in all good professor

somewhat tough class, though he is leinient with the grading, he listened to my problems and respected them. His exams were semi tough study the hw problems and you wil be ok.... He Also lived up to his word as far as grading was concerned !! HE TRULY IS A GREAT GUY

The class is graded 70% on group cases, which there is 1 a week. He says it's not a valuation class, but you spend about 5 hours a week on valuations. Overall, it's interresting and you learn a lot, just a pain to coordinate a group project every week.

Valuation, yes. Difficult, yes. Learning, lots. The guy is really good and focussed. Very professional; compares well with the best anywhere. Has no hangups. Choose your group carefully, though.

Great professor. Explains the material well, and goes over a lot of problems. Gives some homework, but it's not that much. Second midterm and the final were challenging, but he curves at the end. Recommended.

The guy is very proffessional, organized, but....is not helpful outside of class. Do YOUR SELF a favor, don't aske this nured guy questions after the class, especially if you forgot basic algebra. he will remember you and lower your grade. A LOT of studyng reuired to get at least B+

Un-lever & Re-lever the beta!!! One of the best classes you can take at Zicklin. Raj is a great professor, great real world examples in the case studies. Prepare yourself for a lot of work, 6 case studies, midterm, presentation and final. I learned a lot about creating valuation models. In the end you’ll be grateful you took the class.

The professors is great. The course is really interesting and he makes it more interesting. The good thing I like about his class compared to others is it he open certain discussions to the class. A very interactive class. But dont think it is a breeze. Difficult for a full time working with 2 other courses.

One of the best professors at Baruch. The course was informative and enjoyable. At first glance, it seemed to be an excrutiating amount of work. However, I realized in the end that it was definitely worth the time and effort because of how much I actually learned/absorbed. I would take this professor again in a heartbeat.

Exams are very hard- will give a 20 question exams for 5 chapters and questions are extremely long... he's a good lecturer but the exam is a killer.

Nahata is a great professor. He is very engaging and heavy on class discussions. It's hard to say whether this class is difficult or not, but you should take FIN 9770 and FIN 9781 before taking this class. Also, be prepared to do a lot of work. There are 6 cases, midterm and final. At the end your hard work will pay off.

The proffesor has a horroble accent which annoys student ability to understand what he is saying. He does not care about your understanding of the material but to teach the lecture and go home. Do yourself a favor and pick another instructor. The lectures can be very boring and lots of homework assignments.

Best professor I have ever had.He has a perfect teaching methodology.I have learnt more about finance in this course than any other.The HBS cases make class very interesting and he does not bore you with long lectures.Class participation is high which points to high quality of teaching

I expected a lot from his class but in the end it was a great disappointment.The prof made us do several HBS cases and did one useless valuation after another.In the end , you will gain little from his course but will be overloaded throughout the semester.Avoid him.

Be careful, this class is a lot of work, but in the end you do feel that you left class learning something that you can apply to in real life. There is a lot of case work which is all pretty much collaborative. The professor challenges you to think for yourselves and is a fair grader. One of the best courses in the MBA program.

Prof Nahata is a great teacher. He goes a little fast, but if you have any questions, he will gladly go over them as many times as you need. Do the online homeworks, read the textbook and pay attention in class and you'll do well on the test. The tests are not easy only because the class isnt easy. Nahata is not out to trick you. I liked him a lot.

Professor Nahata is great! I have learned so much from him. It is not an easy class, you do have to work hard all semester but it is corporate finance so don't expect easiness. The professor is very smart and knows how to teach and how to make his students excited!!

he's such a cool professor. there are 3 exams. 2 midterms worth 20% each. final is 40%. the rest is from hw and attendance. he stops taking attendance after the first month or so. and the hw probs are online and extremely easy. he curves very nicely (a little too nice).

He is a great instructor, and actually cares whether you learn or not. With that said, he also expect you to put in your effort; like others have said, it's no easy A. The material is not easy, but he explains it well, exams are very fair, be prepared to rely on the notes and textbook . Group work can get hectic, cross your fingers for a good group

If you're good at learning frm the book, and decent w.math - you'll be fine. Do majority of end of chapter probs, and you'll do fine on exams. Final's difficult only in that there's a lot of material to cover, but he curves well. Suggest you read over chapters before class, so you can follow lectures and have an easier time studying in the end.

Nahata is a great professor! This is the best class I took in my MBA program. He really challenges you to think in order to analyze the issues presented on the cases. Every case we did were different and extremely challenging.

very funny prof. u need to buy the textbook for practice problems, and buy connect finance for graded hw problems. he gives practice exams and explains concepts pretty well in class. however, this is not an easy A. be prepared to eat live and breathe the practice problems to the point where u know them like the back of ur hand.

20 questions multiple choice, 3 test. Hw from every chapter. Goes super fast, make sureeee you know how to do the hw, test are like the Hw, but not really cuz tests are harddddddd. One of the best FIN topics offered but difficult. Cases require group valuations & you'll be lost if you don't pick up that skill. There's no how-to, so a more analytical prerequisite is needed than FIN 9770. The textbook contains articles other than the cases, which are extremely useful in grasping topics that are speedily covered in class.

Vanderbuilt PhD, also teaches @ Columbia MBA program. A must if you want to do ibanking/private equity. Covers all PE, not just VC, and teaches valuation for each. 6 group cases (allot 8-12 hrs per case), midterm and final. Hard to get a clean A, but also hard to get below a B unless you sabotage your group/don't care. Best finance prof I've had!

I didn't know we had a final that day until a few hours before, and the exam wasn't super easy, so I messed up there. However, before I get back the grade, I want to say that the professor is really quite good at what he does. He is also fair and a nice guy altogether. Recommended.

In a sense, this prof is good. Expects you to study on your own&know a certain amount&will hold you accountable for it. If you don't study on your own, you'll fall behind&he will not help you. In fact, he'll make fun of you in front of the class, or he'll tell you to drop out. 2 exams+final,&connect hw. Don't email, go to his office instead

Well First Finance 3610 is not a easy subject.I work my ass hard but still got c- but i urge others to take notes, study blackborad and practise connect h/w as much as u can to get good grade.Definately he is good curver and you will learn a lot in his class.But still borrow book frm lib and study it cause things will be more clear.

Don't be worried. His class is easy. What you need to do is to fully comprehend his PPT slides. All concept questions are from his PPT. If you find it hard, you must buy a book and practice end of chapter questions many times. Once you understand it, you won't have to study. All test are very straightforward and from PPT example and sample test.

His class is hard but if you practice the end of chapter problems over & over you will pass. I made a BIG mistake by coming here prior to class and relied on his curve. I ended up failing the class because i was to laid back. SERIOUSLY, DO WHAT HE SAYS and put in at least 3 hrs a week learning the textbook & you will pass. A LOT of effort needed.

Great Professor. Advice: Practice HW problems and review sheet problems until you know them by hard! If you have really bad memory like myself, you definitely have to solve these problems over and over until you get them right w/o looking at solution. VERY RIGOROUS!

He's a great professor that can teach. Great sense of humor. He's very nice and happy to help his students during office hour. I was below avg on the first midterm. But i did good on second because i studied really hard. I always go to his office to review my midterm. It helps to know what mistakes i made.

This isn't an easy class but he made it bearable. His exams are reasonable with concepts and word problems (multiple choice). Homework online is due weekly and some exam questions come from them. Great guy, knows a lot about finance but definitely have to put in the work and study his review sheets and practice questions over and over.

My theory is that he focuses more on coming up with jokes and elaborating on them rather than actually teaching the class what they need to know especially to prepare to for the 4k level finance classes. You pay money and attend a class to learn, not to joke around.... Get the hint guy youre not funny. Teach the class what they need to know.

Prof Nahata has great knowledge in the financial world. Don't be fooled by his easy going personality, his exams are tough! He will go over the really hard problems in class as to have an excuse to include them in the exams! But don't get me wrong, if you actually take the time and study hard with the homework and practice problems you'll be fine.

He's not a bad guy, but there is certainly something about him I don't like. He constantly stops the class to make fun of people and if you ask him questions he assumes you're an idiot because you don't know the answer. The HWs are easy 100's. Doesn't take attendance. The tests are very challenging, you need as much practice as possible!

I got two accidents and my father's heart surgery during this class. This extraneous situation made my life beyond impossible. He accommodated me by giving me an W. I will return to take him again this fall. He is very knowledgeable and is very clear explaining it. Take him and you will really learn something from this amazing professor!

If your major is Finance and you like to learn Finance I recommend u to take him for learning something. There are 3 exams. 2 midterms and 1 finals. If you like to read books and takes notes I believe you will definitely do well in his class.

He goes way too fast during the lectures and expects everyone to grasp everything after only one lecture. Exams are extremely difficult, they are NOTHING like his "practice exams/questions". Does this on purpose to not give out A's. Only took this class cuz of the good reviews on here, but I was wrong. I honestly learned nothing in this course.

Professor Nahata is a great lecturer and tries his best to cover the material as simply as possible. His first test is fair, second is hard and final is a challenge. You must stay consistent with reviewing notes and studying your homework for a good grade. He gives a generous curve as well which really helps students.

We zip thru 10 chapters fast, so with this class you have to spend a lot of time practicing and teaching yourself. His lectures are good and he does write out problems but not enough IMO (prob bc there's too much material). HW is online thru connect. Exams are MCQ: 1 is fair, 2-3 & Final get more and more challenging. Must stay on top of things!

He is a great professor who loves to teach and help students. He will answer your questions till you are satisfied. If you just want to cheat & get an easy A, no way. I had a severe back pain issue after an accident. He accommodated me multiple times. Even after one year, he helped me write a letter to Zicklin for updating my grade due to an issue.

This professor is a pretty decent guy. He wants the students to do well and uploads review documents for every test. They are not the best representation of the test, but are useful. He gives you a freebie or two on the later tests in the class.

The class starts out easy but then gets hard really fast. If you don't stay on top of it by doing all of the hw and coming to class then you will fail. He gives 2 midterms (the 2nd one was 2 weeks after the 1st) and a final that is VERY hard. Conceptual questions are tricky. He curves by using the average score across all of his classes.

HORRIBLE. He goes through chapters so fast. Exams get harder as the semester goes on but that final was the worst exam I have ever taken in Baruch. Half of it was stuff he never went over in class and he took pleasure in seeing the class suffer. I would not take him unless you're willing to ruin your GPA.

Very friendly professor. His slides are clear and he actually teaches you. The class itself is just hard, so you have to study A LOT. The class is also very boring. There are 2 midterms, HW on connect, and a final. All the exams were hard, especially the final. Luckily, he curves. I probably wouldn't take him again. Again, you have to study hard!!!

He is a Real Professor! I wish he tought 4610. Very clear lectures, slides. Tests are fair, no surprizes. Final- cumulative, but it is pretty easy, strghtfrwrd, No challenging q-s. MidTrms are a bit challenging. Please read txtbk, it will help to stay on track. Homeworks help also. If you did well on Fin3000, this class shouldn't be a problem.

One of the best professors in Baruch. Lectures were amazing. The material was boring but the way he teaches helps you pay attention and he was also funny. The online homework and class slides were extremely helpful for studying and doing well on the exams. Final grade is based on 3 exams and homework but he curves generously. Must take him!

The best finance professor I've had till now. He's well-versed in the material. Enjoyed his lectures. His exams are tough but manageable. Some self-study is required. Do end of chapter problems and his practice exams and you should be good to go.

It's obvious he knows what he is talking about and a good professor but you need to DEDICATE ALOT OF TIME TO STUDYING!! If not you will end up like me dropping because I also have to study alot for like 3 other intense classes. If you're willing to dedicate time this the class for you. I would retake him again but I'll be retaking over the summer.

Huge difference between a class that is actually challenging, and a basic course for which you must sweat blood and tears simply because this guy decided it is his duty to complicate it to a level purely for the sake of making it "difficult." This is not a challenge. This is pettiness. Exams are not like anything you've seen before. You'll suffer!

Prof. Nahata is a good professor. In fact, I think I like corporate finance now thanks to him. 2 midterms, 1 final and homework is on Connect. He'd adjust the # of chapters which will be on the exams. He didn't have his cumulative exam this semester because the class ended 1 day before the final week started. You'll learn a lot from him. Take him!

This class is extremely hard. Tests are confusing with answers that will trick you. You will need to study long and hard if you want a great grade. Prof Nahata is interesting to listen to and seems like he genuinely cares whether or not you understand the material. Probably one of the best finance professors at Baruch.

Honestly, you would need to do problems over and over to do well on his exams. His lectures are very interesting too. Attend class pls. Focus on the HW questions and understand how to do it, just practice them over and over. I studied a lot of this class by practicing PPT problems, and hw problems. PPT are also nice to read through.

He's a great professor. I have to say his class is super hard but his tests are multiple choice so don't worry. You have to STUDY for class. Overall take him. NICE!!! :)

His powerpoint are extremely thorough and you must understand them to do well in this class. Forget the textbook, you only need the PPT. Study the homework for exams and familiarize yourself with those problems as much as possible. Overall, he's a great guy! Always knew how to wake the class up with a sarcastic joke. Tests: 80%, HW 10%, Parti 10%.

let me start by saying prof Nahata is a pretty laid back guy in terms of his lectures, HOWEVER this was the hardest professor Ive took in Baruch. His exams are extremely difficult for no reason. The connect homework and sample review dont help you prepare for his tricky questions. Listen if you dont want a miserable semester AVOID this class!!

Professor Nahata is a nice guy during lectures, but neither his sample exams nor the connect hw will prepare you for his exams which are extremely difficult. take at your own risk!

He can be funny at times during class but it gets old quick. Especially when he says he purposely makes the exams difficult. Can be unclear about what to expect on the exams and wonders why the class performs poorly. He is way too overhyped and basically reads off the slides. The Connect HW and slides will not help to the extent people say. AVOID!!

His exams were very difficult and were not similar to what was taught or the connect homework. Most of the class did horrible on the test. He's a decent guy, but just a horrible teacher. He definitely tries to trick you on the test Qs. STAY AWAY

exams are very difficult and extremely long, (45 questions). It is impossible to finish it in 2 hrs, because it is all calculations, especially most of them are NPV, EAC, OCF calculations. Most of us didn't finish the exam. so good luck guys.

Really really nice guy. he knows his stuff and is always available after or before class for questions. it's not an "easy a" because you need to work for your grade but you deff learn a lot. If you put in the work his tests were extremely fair. He was my only accommodating and caring prof during covid19.

He's a great prof and really LOVES to teach. His enthusiasm was contagious! Finally, Baruch hired someone that actually knows what they are doing! The HW and exams are difficult, but there are no trick questions. If you practice the HW, after-chapter Qs, and slide Qs, you will get A's on his exams. It's all about the effort you put into the class.

This is the worst professor I've ever had in my life. His class was an absolute nightmare and I'm an honors student. He DOES NOT respond to emails, calls, or anything. He doesn't care about the students. He STILL has not updated my grade for fall 2020 on cunyfirst. 45 questions, 2 hrs, and all calculation was the final exam. Absolutely terrible.

This is the worst professor I've ever had in my career in Baruch. He takes pride in having the most difficult test within the fin 3610 family. He DOES NOT respond to emails, calls, or anything. He doesn't care about the students. His exam was all calculations, 45 questions 2 hours.

Worst professor I ever had! Never reply to any emails. The final was a nightmare, it was all calculations with long wordy questions that make it impossible to finish it in 2 hrs. there were 45 questions in total, all MC but everything is long calculation problems!!! don't take him if you want an A. it is really hard to get.

Literally just finished a quiz that was seven questions and only had 25 minutes to do it. EXTENSIVE questions, needed at least 5-6 minutes each, 4 out of the 7 were short response. The trashiest professor, doesn't go over quizzes. Doesn't allow you to see what you got wrong in previous hw/quizzes. Doesn't respond to emails. Just don't, honestly.

I totally agree with the review below. Not only he gives quizzes full of calculations to be solved in 20-25 minutes, he's verbally abusive. He berates students for not answering his questions in class using the mic (not everyone has a peaceful and quiet environment to study/watch lectures) and talks down at us. Not worth your GPA.

Worst professor in Baruch! The quiz is hard, you need finished 7 calculation questions in 20 mins. The questions is long. A GPA KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Raj is the GOAT! He gives amazing lectures and always interacts and cracks jokes with the class, it really made the whole experience better! His tests are fair and are based off Connect HW Questions & the notes, and not only that, but he curves A LOT at the end of the semester, so don't worry if you didn't do well on the exams, you'll be fine!

Excellent professor. Don't rely on the curve (like me) even tho he curves big, just study. If you do all your homework you basically passed his class. The exams are painfully difficult so get ready for that. I got what I wanted which was a passing grade, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have gotten above 2.0 in the finance GPA. Take him!

Professor Nahata is a great and knowledgeable professor. However, he's quite old-school. He only allows calculators and just one reference sheet, while other professors let you use Excel on exams. Keep that in mind before signing up for his class. He does give a big curve, but getting an A won't be a piece of cake. Be ready to study, study, study!

Like any upper-level fin class, you cannot just coast by it. His tests were very fair and not too difficult, the final was the hardest though since it was mainly accounting topics but we were not allowed Excel and had to do everything by hand. We are allowed a 1-page reference sheet for tests and we can write anything on them. Overall good prof tho

I wish I paid attention more to his class. He was such a great and caring professor and he clearly knows his stuff. His exams however are tough. I would have definitely failed this class if not for super generous curve (full letter) that he gives at the end of the semester. Please do try your best and not rely solely on the curve like me.

For those enrolling at this time, here's a warning for you: As of Fall 2023, Professor Nahata is completely switching up the way he rolls. The lack of effort from students has caused him to take away excel and cheat sheet access on all exams, while one mandatory in person quiz has been added to each class (two per week). Test curves also are gone.

Great professor. Cares about his students. Likes to crack jokes in class. Amazing lectures. Gives plenty of examples in class. Accessible after class if you have questions. Hard midterms and finals. Allows cheat sheet but you really need to know the material or the cheat sheet is useless.

This class is very interesting, there is no mandatory sign-in, and there is not a lot of homework. But the exam will be difficult. If you're ready for the exam, this class is for you.

This class really isn't that difficult. All the material for the exams can be studied in 5-10 hours the day prior to the exam if you put your mind to it. Exam questions are pretty similar to homeworks/practice questions. He's a nice professor and cracks a few jokes. Even though some people struggled, if you study hard you will be fine.

honestly one of the best professors i've had at baruch. I actually understand his lectures, even though the material is hard. 3 exams and you get a cheat sheet for all of them + he curves your average at the end, so you'll end up doing better than you think. also, just a really caring man in general, who is always willing to any answer questions

prof usually goes over examples/problems in class which are very similar to his exams so attend classes. Review questions are not exactly the same as the exam but it does help. Allows 1-sided reference sheet. class requires a finance calculator and prof does teach you how to use it. 3 exams noncumulative all mc. he curves at the end

Professor Nahata is an engaging lecturer, though the exams can be challenging. Attend class, use the provided cheat sheet, and consider unstuck study for extra practice - it really helps prepare for the tough assessments. Overall, a worthwhile finance course.

Asked him for extra credit at the end to try and boost my grade up, so nonchalantly declined and said that it was what it was, slaughtered my GPA, and gave the HARDEST final exam known to man, and even with the curve I unfortunately received a C-, and as a student who had a 4.0 prior to taking this class, steer clear. Pick an easier prof.

So essentially, if you have the choice of him or Leonard Kostovetsky, I would take Leonard looking back for the sole purpose of his students getting far better grades. That being said, if you don't care as much about GPA and care more about the content that you learn, I would stick with Raj. Also yes the class is 80% based off ur m1, m2, and final.

I basically did horrible on all exams, but the curve was so big that I ended up with a B+. Just do all the homework and you'll pass the class. Attendance was not mandatory, but I would suggest showing up. Exams make up 80% of the grade. You'll actually learn the material if you show up and pay attention

Dear students reading this, its 80% exams and the curve despite it being good will not help you get an A, the tests are EXTREMELY hard to be completely honest. I failed two of three (m1 and final), m2 was relatively easier.

This is a higher-level finance course, so it is not a complete walk in the park but if you pay attention to lectures and ask questions/go to office hours this course is pretty straight forward. The exams are exactly what he teaches in class. Very reasonable course.

If you are reading this be aware that this class is harder than it looks, The professor makes these test godly hard and its mainly conceptual I would say 75% of it is because for some odd reason their is a lot of formulas to remember and studying. There are better professor that you can choose to, Its the way he teach that is not for EVERYONE.

The professor is chill and fun but don't skip class just because attendance is optional. You need to be there to do good. Workload's a bit much, but tests are like the Connect homework. He curves a lot. I expected a D, but got a B. Its difficult, but he went above and beyond and even helped me grasp 4610 easily even though this was only 3610

Outstanding professor, lecturer, and person. His lectures flow like a story and he makes complex topics easy to understand. He's approachable, understanding, and truly cares about students. If you have a problem, he listens. If you want to learn Finance, highly recommend his class, best professor I've had at Baruch. 10/10.
