Had her for both 106 & 150; if math is not your strength, take it with another prof. I'm south asian and had a few problems understanding her accent. Pace is very quick; hw is critical for understanding the material as well as for quizzes and tests, where she routinely adapts problems. Intelligent as she is, her teaching style is not for everyone.
Particularly lousy teaching style. Makes concepts seem much harder than they actually are. She also has no soul. Wouldnt let me make up a quiz after I was hospitalized.
Professor Baradwaj is definitely worth a try. My older brother, who is good with Math, found her Indian accent to be an obstacle. Contrastingly, I did not. She is always open to questions, (good sense of humor) and I frequently asked them in class, emails and in her office. She does not have unreasonable expectations for this level of Math.
Not very helpful if you go outside of class to get help from her. Exams where not that bad.
Class was hard and pointless. Never knew what would be on tests and she lies and says that you need to take her class or stat 121. Not true.
If math is not easy for you DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She is the most difficult PROF i have ever taken. C'mon who grades you on the correctness of homework, she does! First C i've ever got...and i barely got that. Not very nice, helpful but expects you to remember every detail from math in high school... no curve whatsoever.. stay away if you can
I thought the class was easy as long as you go to class and actually study the notes she gives in lecture. If you can understand the process by which the problems are solved then you can pretty much solve all of the homework problems that she assigns. This is for people who have a strong math background.
She knows her math, however having taught for 20+ years she thinks since she has said it once, it is crystal clear. She does show preferance to females from her own country, therefore, when asking for help make sure that you make her help, not just brush you off.
While the material was hard, I found her to be helpful. While I'm female, I'm definitely not Indian, and a girl who looked to be from that area sitting near me failed the class. I don't find her **** at all, and think that she'd help anyone who makes an effort to understand the material.
Avoid this teacher at all cost!!! 'if her accent didn't make learning hard enough She skips steps while teaching and numbers pop out of nowhere!!! Oh, and don't ask questions during class because while she may review the problem, she gives you an attitude about it.
She is a nice teacher who can teach. However she is very hard to understand and her classes aren't so interesting
If you go to class and read the book every once in a while you should be fine. I never found her accent to be a problem. However, do not take this class if you are bad at math and do not want to devote at least a small amount of time reading the text. Overall, a great teacher.
If you put in an effort she's more than willing to help. She wants to see you succeed. It's really helpful to have a strong math background or you might struggle. She's sweet but quirky.
For everything that is holy, DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN's CLASS, she puts way to much info on each test, she moves way to quick and she skips steps, making it very hard to keep up with her, if you really need this class just take slowowski if your looking for a good grade like an A or B, but if youstay in her class, YOU WILL STRUGGLE, SO LEAVE WHILE YO
Worst teacher possible. Rude, doesn't care for her students and goes out of her way to make her tests hard. I'd recommend avoiding her. She cancels class at 6:58 in the morning (like everyone is going to check at that time in the morning). If you get her for math, switch to a different professor or just take it at your community college.
The test is tough but if you do the assignments she gives you and work hard in that class, you will succeed. She may seem mean but she really wants to help you and wants you to succeed. If you ask her for help, she is more than willing to do so, unless you just ask stupid questions, like a lot of the ppl in her class does.
BAD TEACHER!! STAY AWAY!!.she moves fast and seems to be heartless. It is as if she is competeing with the other teachers. The only time I felt comfortable in the class was when she was not there. My class had to graph things that other sections did not have to, but she wanted us to...? I do not know why
She goes really fast. Better write quickly because you'll need class notes more than the book to study for quizzes & exams. She gives ample time for review b4 exams and will answer questions. If you come to class regularly, and show effort, I think she takes that into consideration when grading. So if you fail, your fault really.
Only students who expect a free ride bcuz of all the grade-curving at UMBC wouldn't like her. She goes really fast but if you copy evrythng she writes, ur notes r more helpful than txtbk on exams & quizzes. She gives ample exam review. Good & fair professor, u just have to come to class and study. If u fail, ur fault.
withdrew twice because of her. she is hard to understand, she teaches way too much, way too fast, and her exams are really hard. quizzes are even hard if you don't study. avoid baradwaj.
She was a great teacher. A little harder than teachers in high school, so a great transition. The online assignments help a lot with your final grade. She has a bit of an accent but you get used to it. If you show effort, she is willing to help. She is funny and cracks the occasional joke to loosen up the class. She used the book as a guide, not mu
She is a great teacher and knows her stuff. She is very helpful if you go in during office hours, you'll understand completely. Her accent is a bit different but you get used to it. Exams aren't that bad, neither are the quizes. People who complain, prob sleep thru class, because it is a little early in the morning. If you listen, you'll get an A
Very interested in helping her students--wants students to come to office hours. However, is a horrible teacher. Moves very fast and unless you are familiar/gifted with the material be prepared to study VERY hard. I didn't and I failed. When I don't study for my other classes I get Bs. If possible, don't take her unless you like to study.
Intelligent woman. She knows what she is teaching about. The problem lies with the teaching. It goes way too fast, and you have to know prior to class about the subject- preferably in depth. If math is your forte, you will be fine. If not, GO GO GO see her, STUDY, and really work hard. Presence for class is not exclusively mandatory but if you want
She teaches O.K.
If you can learn from a book, this is the class for you. I only show up for tests and quizzes. Homework is turned in online super easy. I can't listen to her lectures very confusing and heavy accent.
Great teacher. I would highly recommend.
HEAVY accent. If you have trouble understanding southern asian dialects/ accents do NOT take her. She will say that if you need help she wants to see you in her office to give you help but really gives off the impression of not wanting to help you. You could easily just attend the lab(quiz) day and learn everything from a TA better.
The class itself isn't really that hard, but when you are studying for the tests make sure you take all of the homework problems/review sheets and make everything 3 times harder. That's how the test will be. You should go to class unless you are very good at learning from the book.
I'm terrible at math, so it was a hard class for me. I loved Raji though, I thought she explained everything perfectly and I was never completely lost. She expects you to put effort and with effort you could get an A. I never used the book and just attended lectures. She gives you reviews and if you do those, you'll be fine for exams.
Baradwaj isn't a horrible teacher but she definitely isn't the best. When I went to her during office hours she didn't seem very interested in helping me. She expects you to know a lot and doesn't explain answers very clearly. I would advise taking someone else besides her.
One of the best math teachers here in UMBC (in my opinion). If you go to class, take notes, pay attention, do the homework, and do the review problems your almost guaranteed an A in her class. Her exams aren't that hard as long as you do all the stuff mention above, plus she writes the final exam for all the MATH 350 classes.
One of the best math professors I've ever had, and I normally hate math! Just be prepared to take good notes. She was always clear on what she expected you to learn. Her exam study guides almost always look just like her exams, so study those and you'll be fine. I used to struggle in math in HS and I passed her class with flying colors!
I really liked baradawaj. She explained things well. As long as you come to class take good notes and study on a regular basis you should be fine.
as long as you go to class each day, she's a good clear teacher and you should do fine.
I'm a music major, and this was a great class! Prof Baradwaj knows her material and teaches in a very logical manner. She expects her students to work hard for a good grade. She was always willing to answer a question when I needed help. Actually, she expects questions--especially at review sessions. I highly recommend her! I learned alot!
Avoid this class.
She is the best teacher of all times! You have to come to class. There is no ****ting with her. Just come and listen to lecture. She is extremely intelligent so don't expect to get away from not studying and LEARNING.
If you're not good at math, this class is going to be hard. She's a pretty good teacher and definitely knows what she's doing, and even can be funny at times. She goes fast because she has to. People get lazy and don't come to class which is why they do so horribly. Take good notes, do the homework, study for the quizzes/tests, and you should pass.
She is a great professor and really wants her students to succeed. The online hws really help review for the exams. Attendance is really important to do well in her class. One of the best math professors I've ever had!
Pay attention and attend class and you will do fine. She has a great memory and will memorize all 150 plus students. also, her tests use a lot of questions from class and her reviews.
I only had this class once a week so this class was awesome. There is no textbook required but we had to buy this online access code for Aleks. Aleks was very fun and helpful. Baradwaj is very hopeful and she wants her students to succeed. Im taking her for Math 150 spring 2010 so hopefully she is an excellent professor in this course
One word and that is that this prof. is extremely creepy, and i mean she will have your name memorized in no time. Her T.A. suck and nobody really attend the discussion class except to take the quiz.
She's pretty funny. Her loud, squawky voice is comical. She goes really fast during lecture so it's advisable that you review the sections before coming to class. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's very helpful. SUPLEMENTARY INSTRUCTIONS IS AWESOME!! Helped alot. Just do well on the quizes, exams, and do the homeworks and you're set.
GO TO CLASS!!!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Takes more time to make people sound stupid for asking questions than just answering them. Her accent is barely comprehensible and her handwriting is no better. To be honest I am not sure why I am even paying for this class. I should have just bought the book.
best teacher ever!!!
Very VERY good professor who doesn't deal with people complaining. She will go over a concept for a refresher but still has expectations that you know some concepts (such as fractions). Sends out frequent e-mails which helps. Just show up, take notes, and you'll be fine.
She is a great math professor, she knows her material, but her major problem is that when you ask a question she chastises you for it and will make you feel stupid. She tends to speed through the material and expects you to memorize absolutely EVERY detail, when you ask her to slow down she will typically ignore your request and make you feel dumb.
I took 106 with Raji, and thought she was a terrible professor. Very unhelpful. I took a hybrid class with her so we only met 50min a week, but during that 50 minutes she barely taught a thing. Avoid class.
I Raji for Math 106 and Math 150 and she was whole another person in Math 150, I guess because in Math 106, I only had her one day a week versus 3 days in Math 150. Shes a great professor. Just come to class and take notes and you will be fine.
Raji is very strict and has no sympathy for people who miss class and claim to have "panic attacks" during her exams. When it's all said and done, she's a pretty bad teacher and not very helpful. A lot of people do fail this course. By taking the class seriously and studying I managed a B.
difficult and does not seem to care much about the quality of what the students learn more concerned with getting out of the classroom quickly
Fantastic professor! As long as you pay attention and take some notes, you'll do fine.
One of the easy Indian math teachers i know.... i only took notes on 4 sections/chapters and still got a B to a B+ .... SLEEPing in CLASS will not get you an A.... lol
Everyone complains saying her exams are hard. They're pretty tricky but if you studied and you do her recommended problems you'll get at least a B. Her last exam (3rd exam) was EXTREMELY hard which kind of screwed me over but her quizzes are SO easy. She's a great teacher overall. Just don't ask stupid questions and come to class.
Ms. Raji was a great professor for calc. As long as you take notes and follow along, you will do fine. Make sure to do all the homework before the exams because she will give problems very similar to those. The TAs can be pretty help and if you have any problems, go see Ms. Raji in her office. She is very friendly and will make sure you understand.
Good class, crappy TA, dont take it at 8 am. She can be funny too
GO TO CLASS. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. You will do just fine. She is fast. She cares ALOT if you do. Office always open. She's an AMAZING math teacher. VERY INTELLIGENT. A QUICK MIND. She's the best if you want to learn and if you want a challenge. She is available for supplemental instruction. You just have to go. Put in the time & you'll do fine
She can be a good teacher. But I definitely do not like her. She gives so much home work that you can never finish. You manage to finish one assignment and by the time your done theres two more. She goes much to fast to be able to learn any thing of use.
Raji is a great professor. Go to class and do your homework, and you'll do well. Her accent is not as bad as everyone thinks
Hard class, especially if you have a weak foundation of Algebra II/Pre-Calc from high school. Taking 151 now, and the TAs really do make a difference! If you end up with a horrible TA, all of your learning is mostly self-taught besides the examples done in lecture. No curve, only a grade boost if you get to know her.
TERRIBLE. If the problem is not done her way its wrong, even if you got the right answer. A very tough grader. Dont text or leave class early or ask questions about things she had covered, she'll attack you. She flies through problems instead of actually taking time to explain. If you have the misfortune of having her, hope you have an excellent TA
She puts students on the spot, and witnessing it is very discourging to other students to ask questions. She blazes through problems without stopping to explain, & just when you think you know it, she'll leave you scratching your head by the end of class.
Do not take her. If an answer is not done her way, it is wrong. She makes fun of her students and puts them on the spot. She won't give you problems that might be on tests in class, rather assigns them for homework and has the worst office hours. Asking a question is scary. Asks students if answer is right instead of planning out her lectures.
She works as fast as humanly possible, and smells bad.
She move super fast. Very hard to understand. Makes no sense most of the time. Even the tutors in the library had no idea how to do the problems. Went to her for help and she said to go back to the tutors, even after i told her they didnt know, she said they need to go back to math class. Makes fun of students and thinks shes the queen of the world
I actually thought Baradwaj was an awesome calculus professor; she's straightforward, gives tons of examples and grades pretty fairly. I don't why the people below are bashing her on her teaching skills. She does care about her students' grades and offers her help if you need it. Some people have trouble with her accent but you'll get used to it.
Don't listen to the bad comments. As long as you do the review packets she gives you, go to the tutoring center, and show her that you ARE there to learn and not slack off, you'll do fine.
I retook her class and the first time she was unclear, unhelpful and seemed angry all the time. Next semester she was much sweeter, willing to help and easier to understand. She does tend to move very quickly, however, but will slow down if someone lets her know she's going too fast.
Awesome professor! If you're a very good note-taker, and you show her that you care, you'll get an easy A. She loves students who go to her office hours and show that they want to improve their grades. Also, rewrite your notes! This is very helpful! Almsot all her exam questions come straight from notes!
TOO MUCH
More concerned about meeting the department requirements than making sure her students understand. I do not recommend her. I had a hard time understand her b/c of her Indian accent event though one of my parents is an Indian immigrant.
Overall she is not a bad teacher at all. She can go a little bit fast at times but she will stop and help if you ask questions. Also, make sure you take notes!
DONT DO IT. TAKE THE OTHER TEACHER. EVERYONE IS RETAKING THIS CLASS. INCLUDING ME AND I ALWAYS HAVE STRAIGHT As IN MATH.
Raji has an accent but it truly isn't difficult to understand her. just go to class and take notes and you'll be fine! she drops like 4 lowest HWs and quizzes and gives reviews for tests. grades fairly, just show your work.
Too concerned with administration guidelines
She is a great teacher. One thing that really made me mad was the fact that people thought she was a bad professor when those people just didn't study. If she seems hard and fast at times, make sure you ask a questions. But the good thing is that she will prepare you for calculus. If she made the class easy, I can guarantee you would fail calculus
She is an awesome teacher. There are many people in the class who complain about tests and how she teaches--they also don't ever come to class and probably never study. If you do the homework (which isn't that much), come to class, and MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE, you'll most likely get an A. I sucked at math before college, but managed an A!
aced precalc in high school, almost failed this class. she's impossible to deal with and problems on test are unreasonable. TAKE IT WITH A DIFFERENT TEACHER. i wish someone wouldve told me that before i signed up for this class.
Good course, and easy. I appreciated the application of Pre-Calc to real world problems. 4 quizzes dropped, and each exam and quiz had bonus points built in them. The final exam was easy too. As long as you do work you will get an A. Raji is a great professor.
has a accent, goes really fast, and does not explain clearly if you ask questions
She is a really good teacher. Yes, she goes quickly, but she prepares you really well for math 151. As long as you do the homework problems and the practice she posts, you will do well. If you have a problem, go to her! She really does help. Sit in the front too and make sure she knows who you are.
I recommend having taken a Precalculus class before; this class goes at a fast pace! She's clear, but doesn't always complete problems in class. If you have any questions, go to her office hours! She is eager to help if you put forth effort. Wouldn't buy book-barely used and an online version is included with webassign. Don't use cell in class!
We used the book for homework problems, and some problems would be recommended but not graded. The quizzes had problems almost always from the homework, and the recommended problems. She's kind of hard to understand and goes fast. I didn't do so well because I facking hate math. But she's not a horrible professor, ask questions and you should be ok
Gives a lot of homework but she is incredibly helpful. She really cares about each and every student and wants everyone to learn. Does a good job of making a large lecture hall feel like a small classroom. Tests are fair, but make sure you study there is a lot of material on them. Best math teacher I've ever had.
Spends more class time scolding those who are talking than actually teaching for those who are paying attention. Not approachable. Tests are way too long. Inconsistent grading.*Note: Do not pick discussion sections held in the castle - worksheets are online only so 3-5 people are crowded around a computer trying to do different problems.
Seems to thrive off of setting students up for failure.
Great teacher. Always available for help. I suck at math, but if you pay attention you will be fine.
I'm currently in Raji's MATH 151 class, and I love it! She just makes sense when she teaches and she really cares about her students.
I'm currently taking Raji's math 150 class (precalculus). Although she teaches at a fast pace, she is a very thorough professor. If you attend every class and take good notes you'll do fine. The tests require quite a bit of studying, but her teaching style forces you to understand the concepts rather than just memorize them. Great professor.
she's really good and cares a lot about her students.
Raji rocks!! She flies through her material pretty quickly, so I'd suggest reading the book sections before lecture. She runs a strict/organized class which helped me a lot. Pretty sassy and gives hilarious responses to people who slack off/ask stupid questions. Don't text or use your laptop in class or you'll live to regret it ;)
I went into this class a little nervous based off the reviews seen off this site, but honestly Raji is a sweetheart. She was never unreasonable when grading, always explained concepts and problems thoroughly, and provided plenty of help if need. She's funny and while she does move quick, it's manageable.
151 is super fast paced. If your not naturally good at math, try taking a lower math because I had to drop the class mid semester because I knew I wouldn't pass. She is approachable for help though and very nice.
Very fast-paced teaching style with very little clarification, examples are very poor...
the worst professor. teaches at a rapid pace and really doesnt answer your questions
Teacher is awful. She doesnt know how to teach at all. She put my grade as a B at the end of the semester, as my final grade. Next morning i wake up and I now have a C... avoid any contact with this teacher she will ruin your college experience.
One of the most intelligent and best teachers I have ever had the privilege to learn from. If you don't put in the work you are toast but then again, you should know that going into college.
Very hard. It is hard to get an A in this class without a strong math background. Do not take this professor if you want an easy A. She is confusing, teaches fast, and does not know what she is doing half the time. She is, however, a knowledgeable person who knows her craft very well, just a terrible teacher. Rude as well. The study guides help.
I am awful at math but I worked really hard and did extra credit and still got a C. she's one of those teachers I consider "too smart to teach". she's super intelligent and qualified, and I even like her personality, but she's not good at explaining math to someone who doesn't understand it. she assumes you know/should know material you may not.
If you do the work and pay attention, you can get an A. She's really funny. The exams were like the old ones. Practice them! People who are rating her down probably didn't put in the work. Hard class, but if you study/work hard you can get over 100% on some exams.
She cant teach
This class is fast paced, but is manageable. As long as you put time in the class you'll be fine. She does detailed examples and answer any questions during lecture. It's good to rewrite your lecture notes though, b/c they'll get sloppy very fast. Tests are fair, make sure you do the review sheet she posts up. She has a mild Indian accent though.
she refuses to teach, she just repeats the same question for 10 minutes that no one answers because you can't understand her, then says how surprised she is that no one knows how to do it.
She knows her stuff well, but is not good at teaching it. Class is very fast pace and she rushed through her lesson without explaining most of the stuff. Ask her to elaborate on a problem and she'll just ask you questions about the step she preformed. You'll be either teaching the class yourself, or relying heavily on the TAs
She is a nice teacher overall but the class itself, and the way its set up is extremely hard, well it was for me. There literally was a quiz every discussion and seminar. So it was pretty much every single class, hardly ever time to study for any of the quizzes. It's either you know it or not. The work load for this class is insane.
Teacher is very helpful if you willingly enter her office hours. Her methods of teaching can be a bit strict and difficult; however, her teaching help to instill the concept and important formulas needed to know for Calculus.
Does not want anyone to fail so she'll always be available to help and assist with any issues. Fair grader and will help you pass the class. The last thing she likes to see is a student fail
Very hard course, try to avoid. A lot of work must be done in the class, including online work. Teacher is overall not bad, though many people dislike her. Yet she teaches the class well and expects a lot from her students.
Teaches at a very rapid pace and can be difficult to understand. At times she comes off as condescending. A lot of the time she also comes in late and as a result keeps the class longer than scheduled.
She knows her stuff but has a very nasty attitude. She rudely talks to you, points you out in class, nags at you in class, etc. She gives us a speech about dumb stuff at the beginning of every class for 15 mins which takes away from the learning time.
Precalc is a hard subject, Actually in UMBC its the highest failed class. Personally, you should go to each and every lecture and importantly DO THE HOMEWORK like a week in advance, if you don't understand anything the professor is saying, i can say that if you do the homework you will be able to understand it. Raji explains everything well too
She has a very different way of teaching, definitely fast paced but wants everyone to pass. She does go on tangents at times about classroom policies, etc. but she knows what shes doing and what shes talking about. She is very open armed and is always available for her office hours. Definitely a class you need to study for, but overall, she's great
Raji is a wonderful professor, anyone who says otherwise needs to brush up on their math. She is always wiling to help her students. Her tests are fair game. You will learn a lot from her PERIOD.
Not bad, but not easy. I'm terrible at math and I got by with a C, I think she's a good teacher. If you're bad at math, I recommend this teacher, but you have to stay focused, and you have to want to be better at math etc.
this lady is hilarious. very spunky. very helpful if you're willing to seek it out. some people may think she teaches fast, i but felt that her pace was just fine.
I suck at math. Raji understands that some people get math and some people don't. However, she's gonna make you work regardless. Go to her office hours, raise your hand in class if you don't understand something. She roots for her students to pass. If you try, you will pass.
Can't teach, goes on rants in class, and if you ask a question during class, she's more likely to tell you that you should have studied than to actually help you.
She is a tough professor; HOWEVER, she does take the time to do practice problems in class which are VERY helpful. She also puts practice problems online before the exams and if you study that then you should be fine. The people that do bad in this class are the ones that don't look at the practice problems online.
Raji's pace is pretty fast so you will need to keep up. You'll have many quizzes and hw's . If you are not good in math you'll need to put effort. She is hilarious so you will laugh in class. Doesn't take role but has a really good memory. Won't need textbook but you will work with Aleks System.
This clas will be you on your own learning through the book. Her lectures are hilarious and I don't mean that in a good way.
One of the worst professors i've ever had the utter displeasure to instruct me. Took over summer, always made the class stay at least an extra 15 minutes, one time an extra 40! Asks a question then waits 1 second before deciding we know nothing and yells, the says we don't belong in college. Her tests are tough and rough grader. Do not take!
Make sure to keep up with EVERYTHING. Every little thing counts for credit. She doesn't believe in her students. Raji: "*insert q here*" -2 seconds later- "You all don't know!? You are all going to fail."
I came from high school with Calc AB experience and was able to get through very easily , she is nit-picky and you MUST show steps in all work. She goes through lessons at a quick pace and they can go overtime by a few minutes, but she'll post notes online. Class isn't mandatory, there is group work. She drops a bit of everything except tests.
I thought she was a pretty cool prof, she'll help you when you need it-she just doesn't like slackers. She gives you a bunch of extra credit if you go to the math gym & do some math problems. There are 2 group projects but they're not that bad and actually can help your grade as long as you put in effort. Lectures aren't mandatory but they do help
This class was horrible for me. The professor would show up to class with pre written notessolved problems on her ipad in poor writing and expect us to grasp the information from that.
Don't listen to people who say she is a bad teacher or mean. If you actually do your work, pay attention and are respectful, she'll be nice to you. She will sass you if you are stupid. Do not be too imitated to ask for help, she WILL help you and loves you to come to her and say you found a mistake in her practice tests. But the are a little messy
Horrible experience. After 3 years of college, by far the worst professor I've come across. The lectures are rarely kept professional ie: she yells, insults, and goes on tangents nearly EVERY CLASS. Is not the least but encouraging or positive, and I've even heard her once to tell students to stop coming to class. Stay far far away!!
Yea, she's ok. Didn't really understand calc. Used her office hours 1 time. Helped a little. Just prepare to teach yourself and get a friend who knows what they're doing. Boring lectures and she doesn't take attendance so if you don't show up, go through the book.
I could not stand this lady. She complains about her students, when you ask a question, she gets an attitude with you and degrades why you don't already know the answer to the question. She goes too fast through her lectures, makes a million mistakes. The only learning I did was self taught and through the homework's and TAs. TERRIBLE TEACHER!
I love Raji. A lot of people don't because of her accent, or how she may appear "sassy" because they don't utilize her office hours or math tutorial centers, but instead approach her the final week of classes asking for help with their grade. If she knows you, and knows you participate well, she will (and wants to) help you! GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!
Worst teacher I've ever had hands down. Very rude to my class all throughout the year, goes off topic a lot, whoever she has grading her students' papers is also terrible. 010 do not recommend.
Am I right!?!
I don't really advice anyone to have her teach you math, not helpfully doesn't like students approaching her to ask her question's. when you try to talk to her after class the way she talks to students its like i don't have time for you i should get going.
don't sleep in her class or you don't get an A... 89.5% lol
Lectures are pointless. Gives notes anyway
One of the hardest graders, you mess up on one thing prepare to receive about 20% for the entire question, which could be a problem worth 1/5 of your grade.
Raji encourages you to pay attention and she always tells you what you need to know beforehand.
My first enjoyable math course
Very hard on students. This class in itself is more geared for those who took AP Calculus before; she will insult you if you have forgotten anything form Pre-Calc or Algebra 2. Overall, online homework and self-teaching help. Tough grader; wants the work done in "her style" for each section. Good for partial credit though.
She was very helpful and funny. Doesn't allow electronics.
She's helpful. She posts notes and practice tests online (which look a lot like the actual test). She's definitely confusing though. Went to office hours and she's just as confusing there as she is in class. Do not take calc 1 with her if you've never been exposed to calculus material.
Raji is very poorly rated mainly because of her accent and the fact that she doesn't take crap from anybody. The thing that most people don't take into consideration is that she grades very fairly. Her classes have many opportunities for extra credit and there are very often options to drop bad homeworks and quizzes.
Raji presents a paradoxical teaching style, her words confirm a warm and inviting office hour meetup, whereas her actions speak of the exact opposite. Not only is she iffy on even showing up to office hours, she will insult ignorance bluntly. In an environment where students try to learn difficult and complex topics, avoid Raji.
Well, class with the Baradwaj was certainly an experience. There were many occurrences when Raji would be rude to the class on the basis that we "could not do basic addition" when she herself made similar math errors. How unfortunate. Let's just say that learning seems a secondary objective in this environment. At least I learned some good insults.
I LOVED RAJI, amazing professor, very straightforward but not easy. Come to class, sit in the front and pay attention and you're sure to pass. Make sure she knows you, stop by office hours :) her sarcasm is to die for.
ALEKS is an essential part of this class. Don't slack off. Raji is available whenever you need her and super sweet.
Did not enjoy Raji's class at all. She was confusing and loud. She is strict on the weirdest things. i.e. she would yell at people for having their phone out in class.
Although it is possible to earn an A or B in this course with this professor, she is a very tough grader and that is coming from fellow chemistry students who are high achievers. The point is she rushes through lecture not working out the problems, expects you to know everything before going in and is very inconsistent with grading on exams.
I didn't like her teaching style at first, but she grew on me. Her lectures are fine. Go through the book and do exercise problem. Brush up on the algrebra if you need to because you'll need it. Discussion with Maria (Teaching Assistant) was wonderful.
She is very sassy and will make you skiddish about asking questions. She speeds through the notes in lecture, and expects you to know everything (expect an insult if you don't). She's smiled a total of 4 times this entire semester. You have to teach yourself and do a ton of extra work on the side to do well. Take the practice exams seriously!!
I advise you avoid this teacher. She is demeaning and rude. If you don't already know the material you will be lost in her lectures. Check your wrong answers on tests, she frequently makes grading errors. Attendance to her lectures is not mandatory, but seminar and discussion are. Seminars will quiz you on material for the next week's homework.
Didn't really enjoy the class but it was very east. I didn't do a whole lot of work and still came out with a C. If u put in the effort you will definitely get an A
You should have a good foundation before taking this course. This class is not easy, you will have to work for it everyday at least 2 hours a day. There is a test every month and 2 quizes every week, not to mention homework due every week as well. You might need to access resources outside of class because she is not going to lead you by the hand.
Raji is one of the best professors I've ever had. She actually cares about her students passing but also actually understanding the course material. I took her during a 6 week summer session and it was hard work but I've learned alot. I would definitely take her again and I plan to for the next level of math.
This class is awesome and I loved Raji, she is very caring. I also had a great background in math, so it was easier for me. I think the language and culture barrier is the cause but there were times when she would say one thing, then jump to the next step and everyone was confused because she didn't take time to explain how she got there.
I quite liked taking the course with her. She gave you many opportunities for extra credit, and even though she has a no-nonsense approach to teaching, she was always willing to help and treated you with respect if you approached her for questions.
This was the worst math experience I've ever had. Math doesn't come easily to me in the first place. This teacher is insulting and rude when you have questions. I watched as she disrespected a student because she asked a question that was of complete high intellectual level. A lot of the work is learned on your own time. Avoid this teacher. Rude.
She's a wonderful professor and is really nice to students who show effort in her classes. Exams and quizzes are much harder than lecture and homework, so make sure you understand core concepts or you won't pass.
Shes a good professor. I'm not very good at math but I got an A in this course which says a lot. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Getting an A is definitely not easy but if you do the homework and read the text you should be fine. (You DEFINITELY need to know and have a good bases on algebra before starting)
Attendance isn't counted for lecture, but the class moves fast and her notes can be difficult to read, so lecture is encouraged. The book is supplemental, but sometimes she strays from it, so try to keep up with her and use the book primarily if you can't figure out a homework problem. She responds to email pretty quickly. Go to SI sessions.
If you show up to lectures (which you should as they are helpful), pay attention, and do the homework, it really isn't that hard. Math is a struggle for me and I got a solid B with her. She's comes off stern at first but she's funny lady and she knows what she's doing. Don't be afraid to ask for help because she's more than happy to.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Raji can be hard to understand during lectures, which made everything even more frustrating. I am retaking the class under Brian Dean this coming semester.
Raji truly cares about her students, perhaps this was one of the reasons I was successful in her class. If you need any help you can come to her office hours or email her. This class dose require you to put in effort and practice practice practice, but she is there if you need her. I truly loved having her as a teacher, she wants you to succeed.
She is very accesible and caring.
Well, for starters, her English is awful, and normally I can get past that and decipher what they are saying but there is no chance with her. And she does not explain anything in the lecture, she expects you to follow and if you don't, well tough. She goes insane whenever she sees any electronic devices, so keep them away. Don't take this class.
She is one of the best professors at UMBC. That's all I have to say.
Yeah, I didn't like the way she berated our class every time we came in to lecture. If you're not gifted in the ways of mathematical applications, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I guess if you go to every lecture, read all the notes, work on practice problems, go to SI pass, and thrive to achieve an 'A', you might have a chance of getting a 'C'.
Raji seems to genuinely care about her students, but she's not a very effective teacher. I was lost during lecture. If you ask a question, she sort of just shouts it back to you as if that will help. Extra credit was a ton of work but she barely gave any credit. You can put all the work in and still struggle to pass. No partial credit on exams.
I am suffering in this class. I'm already bad at math, and this professor does not help me learn. She will tell you that if you don't immediately understand a concept, you don't belong in the class. I have had to teach myself because I can't learn from her. She is also very inaccessible through email.
Professor Raji may be slow to warm up to, but it doesn't take very long to realize that she cares about her students and legitimately wants them to be successful. She doesn't put trick questions on her exams, and if you go to office hours she'll spend as much time as needed to help you with homework and other questions from the class. She's great!
I hate this pro.
Homework assignments usually consist of 12-15 questions per chapter to make sure that the student has mastered the material. I implore you, GO TO CLASS! Most of the students who fail the class are failing simply because they don't show up. She thoroughly explains the materials in class and answers any and all questions. LABS ARE A MUST DO.
Not a fan. Took her twice (1st and 3rd year). Struggled both times, withdrew the 1st. She's not exactly unfair; she wants you to work hard &gives back what you put in. That said she can be hard to communicate with/off-putting & a tough grader(be very specific!) May claim homework is missing w/o even checking. Slight uptight demeanor & expects much
Raji is a good teacher, but is no-nonsense. Do not even think about using your phone in class, she will get very angry and probably throw you out. Her accent makes it a little tough to understand, but she is ok clarifying words for you. Class itself is a cakewalk. Pay attention & do the online stuff and you'll pass. Don't be late.
Raji was a good professor. She won't give you an easy A, but if you try and she knows your face, she'll help you out and may bump up your grade. A lot of quizzes come straight from lecture notes or the homework so pay attention to examples/questions. Also, if you're struggling with a topic, go to office hours and she'll basically give you answers.
I took Prof. Raji for MATH150. By far the best math professor on campus. Anyone else who says otherwise, is simply not putting in the effort, or upset they didn't get a good grade. One generally infers the other. She teaches things concisely, and is very clear what she expects from her students. Definitely prepares you for calc I and calc II.
If you took pre-calc or calc in HS you should be fine. The first few sections are like review then but if you havent taken the class before and this is brand new. Well. Good luck fam. You will need to get extra help. Also please do the hw. and always try and get a 100 on it. later questions are really hard and no partial credit on hw.
Uncaring. Quizzes don't test your knowledge of the material so much as your test taking abilities.
Honestly the best professor at UMBC. she cares so much about her students
Amazing teacher who cares about you, I was going through tough times during her class and she was so helpful. Would take again, gives lot of homework but it's for your own good and you'll understand the topics once you complete them, gives extra credit
She will put her time and energy into you if she sees you do the same with the work. I really really respect her. She is intimidating but she is very genuine as well. I have been struggling with the work and she went out of her way to help me. I hate that i'm getting a B, but she is a wonderful professor and i would recommend her to anyone.
Raji is tough and initially I did not care for her, but she showed that she really cared. She can be blunt at times but she only acts so because she wants everyone to do well. She is also a good teacher. Math is hard for me, but if you put in the effort you will do well. Go to her office hours and ask for help/clarification.
Raji is an awesome teacher and will help you outside of class. Go to her office hours it helps a lot . If you skip class you're only hurting yourself. I did take AP Calc in high school so the class was over material I knew but also more. Not sure how hard the material wold be for those learning the 1st time.
Raji is a sweetheart as a person, but as a professor, she's hard to keep up with. She moves through lessons very quickly. This is definitely a teach yourself class, especially if you've never taken calculus before. Her tests are easy though because she gives you a lot of study guide equations and uses the same questions, just different numbers.
Raji"s lectures were very unclear, and had little examples. Most of the learning is done on your own.
Raji is tough, but definitely a solid choice for a math professor. If you show to class and do your work, youll pass. If you dont show up to class and go to ask for help, shell send you right away. She will bend over backwards for students who try their best, you just have to put in the work. There are lots of opportunities to pass this class.
To be honest, I only really appreciated Raji after I had the displeasure of taking other Math professors' classes at UMBC. Raji is a very solid professor, and compared to others, she's even excellent. She'll make you work for your grade, but if you try hard, and act respectfully, she'll work with you and you'll do well.
By far the worst professor that I have ever encountered in UMBC, which is saying alot. The idea of two "pre-quizzes" per week on material she has not covered should give you an idea of how much she cares about student grades. Its very important to try and take a professor other than Raji, unless you already know all the material.
Her lectures are very helpful, and she posts all of the notes and other resources. She gives out lots of opportunities to easily boost your grade, so don't worry about failing. Discussion is where you truly learn though.
She is the worst professor Ive ever had. Shes pompous, rude, uncaring and might be a little racist. Her tests are impossible and she is difficult to understand but doesnt care. I would never take her class again in fact UMBC should do away with her altogether shes a horrible person and professor and has no business being around people.
Do not take her class. Especially if you are not very good at math. Whenever you ask her a question that she believes is too simple, she responds in an incredibly condescending manner and asks someone else to answer it for her. She is unwilling to work with students. She makes it overly complicated by teaching stuff which won't ever show up again.
AWESOME!! Hard work -but it pays off!! go to lectures and office hours and she will boost your grade.
MATH155 is relatively easy to pass. Must prepare for/do well on tests and complete homework assignments to receive a passing grade. Raji is an entertaining professor. She moves fast in lecture but is willing to answer questions especially outside of class.
Professor Raji seems like a tough professor, and she is. But if you show up to class and are respectful, she is so nice. She is helpful, caring and accessible outside class. She posts her lecture notes online for students.
Theres no explanations during lectures, you're expected to come to class knowing the concepts from the textbook and all you do is watch her do problems. She "liked" me as I had great attendance and higher than average exam grades but she DOES NOT help your grade at the end, even when she tells you she is able to, take it with a grain of salt.
Awful. Just trust me on this, don't do it.
I thought Professor Baradwaj was great. She cares about her students, but does not play favorites and will treat you fairly regardless of your grade. Her class is challenging, so make sure you try hard and ask questions. She responds to emails quickly which was awesome. Expectations and policies are clear from the start. Would highly recommend!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT PLAN ON WORKING EXTRA HARD. If you procrastinate or don't study, do not take it. Lots of homework and she cares a lot for her students, but will often waste time by giving unnecessary lectures about doing better.
I was warned before hand about her but thought my friends were just exaggerating. Absolute worst professor I have ever had at UMBC. She claims to care about her students but will publicly humiliate and scold you in front of everyone in lecture. She does not handle stress well and lashes out at students. Avoid taking this class with her.
She's not that great at explaining things when it comes to lecture. However, if you go to her during office hours, you will not be disappointed by her explanations. She is accessible with office hours, and makes it really easy to get an A in the class. Literally just do the work she gives you and show up to class.
She was rude to students who asked questions in class. Her tests were hard but if you studied you should get at least a C. After exam 3, I noticed a friend & I had the EXACT answer for a question on the test, but she gave me 2pts & my classmate 7pts. Very unclear in her grading. I will admit she is good w office hours, but if you commute it sucks
Only if your GPA is 4.0 and you wanna try some crazy things, this class is your best choice because after this class your GPA will be the lowest in UMBC. Additionally, she was the most horrible professor i've ever had in my life I can swear to god. Again, only if you are the math expert, this class is your best choice because you will lost confiden
Class is somewhat difficult, practice and you'll be fine, much easier if you had it in high school. Sometimes her accent is hard to understand.
MATH155 is not hard. The lowest quizzes and homework are dropped and there's only two tests and a final exam. However, I disliked it because of Raji. She was confusing and honestly quite rude in my experience. She accuses people of disliking her because she is foreign and a woman when in reality she is just not a great teacher or person.
That class itself is not supposed to be hard at all, as they drop multiple low scores, but Baradwaj makes it seem like its WAY more difficult than it actually is. Her lectures are VERY fast paced and she runs through practice problems in a matter of seconds and then moves on. I would highly recommend switching to another professor.
Very mixed feelings about her. I found the class to be very fast paced and not throughly explained. She expects you to get lots of extra help outside of class, which is only helpful if the TA/LA is good. I worked really hard in the class and ended with a 70. Work hard and study you will be fine.
A lot of people might give her a bad rating but, if you get on her good side, she is absolutely amazing. Participate, in her class, if you can(not mandatory), go to office hours. Email her if you don't understand. In general, she loves when students reach out to her. If she know you, and you need 1 point for an A or B hey... she will give it to you
This class is so insanely easy and it's just sad how most people don't do that well. She literally gives you the same problems on the exam as the study guide and drops a ton of grades. I've never gotten an A in math in high school but I easily got an A in this class. If you just put in some effort, it's really easy to do well.
She said "Why would I post what is on the quiz when we covered it today?" Guess getting sick does not register with this teacher. She is rude to students who have questions. Just request a different teacher.
This class isn't hard but the way Raji explains the material may look hard and confusing. This class is very fast paced, there was times she barely gave us time to write . She drops quizzes & the exam questions are the same as the study guide. Shes rude at times and calls people out in class. If you struggle in math DO NOT take her.
She spends just as much time nagging about how much we don't care about the class than she does actually teaching. Quizzes every week. I had to learn at my own pace because she does not give enough time to figure out problems on your own in class. She gives you a problem to solve and gives you two seconds before she gives the answer.
Raji is a very underrated professor. While she is very difficult, she teaches the content extremely well. If you need help, go to her office hours. You will not forget anything you learn in this class. She is an extremely caring person and wants every student in her class to succeed.
Took her class over the summer and it was great! She is super caring and accessible outside of the class, so definitely go to office hours, even to say hi! She might go fast in some problems but going over her notes (she uploads them after class) helps a lot. She tends to put problems from her notes in quizzes /exams so that's a great study trick!
Professor Raji is a real gem, alright. Sometimes she spends half the lectures telling us how we are not doing as well as she expected and will drill us on what she wants. And the times she does teach, she rushes through it and then says that half of us will be confused. But she's extremely generous with grading and basically, you CANNOT fail.
At first she'll come off as scary. But have faith in the fact that she wants the best for you. She has a crazy memory and will know what students did what in a lecture hall of 150 students. She is great at math and the two times I went to see her she smiled as she helped. Class will require some work but resources are provided. Class is fast paced!
Hilarious. Dont ask questions about basic math or you will get flamed, but honestly for good reason. Super caring in office hours.
I had the privilege of taking Professor Raji's math 150 course this past fall. Honestly, at first glance, she may seem very intense but she is actually a very kind and caring person who wants to see her students strive. I recommend going to office hours because you get to understand the content and know her more as a person.
If you took pre-calc in high school and did well, this class will be fairly easy for you. If this is your first time taking pre-calc, this might be a little difficult, but not too bad. Raji shows a lot of different examples and gives you lots of practice(discussion, seminar, lecture, HW), so as long as you follow along, it's hard to do poorly.
terrible professor. does not care about her students, and when you ask a question she makes you feel stupid. her exams were pretty self explanatory as well as the homework, but her as a teacher is awful and does not care about her students at all, dont take her class if you are in math 106, take it with another professor. life is alot easier
When you enroll, the textbook gets charged to your account automatically, despite the fact that chapters are not referenced in class at all. The lectures are example-heavy, so each individual problem is explained very quickly. Some of my peers and I were so confused, all we could do is laugh. Only take this if you can learn at lightning speed.
She is one of the worst profs ive had.
She has zero care for her students. Went to her office hours multiple times during office hours. She is never there. When you do have the chance to catch her (after class) and ask her for clarification for problems, she just makes you feel stupid.
Raji is now my favorite math teacher, including my time in high school. I took Pre-Calc, Calc 1&2, in high school and averaged to a C in each class. Taking her class Fall semester, I started struggling. My advice: don't be afraid to ask questions; form a study group. Go to her office hours! Don't be intimidated. That's how I went from a C to a B.
I took math 106 in the fall as a freshman and it wasnt good. She goes over the material in class way too fast for people to comprehend. She doesnt give time for people to try on their own. The class is very quiz and test heavy. Her teaching style makes the class harder than it should. Take this class with a different professor you wont regret it
Just check Grade Today for her score, take literally anyone else.
Worst teacher at UMBC. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Very rude and does not offer any help.
So Raji isn't terrible - she clearly cares about students and makes sure you learn. However lectures go by really quick and it's sometimes difficult to understand her. With Covid we switched to online, which she did ok with, The quizzes during discussions will kill your grade if you don't study, and they're weekly. Decent overall, nothing special.
Shes the worst. Very rude, responds to emails very rudely and doesn't respect students.
Raji is great. What's with all the hate. Put in the work for her class. Show up, don't use your phone, try, do the homework, go to her office hours, study, and make an effort! You'll get an A. She cares a lot about your success in her class. If you don't try she won't make you try. If you want her to care, make sure you care.
If you have another option take them. This woman was very inconsiderate during COVID. But if you were unlucky, here's how you pass. SIPass( Amanda) and seminar mentors they saved me ask many questions and go to their office hours. Do your seminar worksheets while doing webassign there are videos/more exs. that will help u with problems, dont forget
Whether a student asks a question during class or office hours, her response is usually rude and unhelpful. Her lectures are too fast for the majority to understand. The tests count for a lot, are rarely curved, and are harder than the study guide and homework questions.
So rude. Students cant even ask a simple question without getting a ton of attitude back. She makes people feel dumb with the way she talks to you. Her in-person lectures suck. She doesn't allow you time to think. When shes going over a problem, she gives you 5 seconds then starts going over it. Her online lectures suck too. She doesn't care
Took her summer during covid. I think she cares about students grades but the way she answers questions can come off rude. Shell call on one you and if you delay your answer cause youre working on it or if you get the wrong answer its almost like shes so baffled and will talk to you almost like youre dumb. I dont think she means it but still
My complaint is that she lacks empathy for students when they ask questions and often would say things in the lines of 'You should already know this' during class sessions. It deters students to ask questions AT ALL and feels stressful and unwelcoming when sitting in her class. Also, her notes and handwriting is a MESS. EXPECT to use other sources.
Awful Professor.. Do not take, Cant even begin to explain they dread i felt in this class. Just stay clear easy as that.
LITERALLY TAKE ANYONE ELSE. I dont care what you say she is horrible!!! Literally makes you feel dumb and if youre not a fast paced person you will be lost. Please take someone else because its not worth the stress of reteaching yourself
Inflexible
I love her! She's my favorite because of the amazing advice that she gives. She is super nice if you try and actually get to know her. Make sure to go to office hours for help if you're struggling--this really helped me a lot. She is amazing at making herself clar.
Overall not the best class I've taken. She's a great person who genuinely cares about her students, but its her teaching methods that I really dislike. She simply teaches way too fast. Its hard to keep up and she doesn't always like it when people ask questions. However, I would take this class again because she's really consistent and caring.
Wonderful teacher! I love her and was glad to start UMBC with her as one of my first profs. She's tough and caring at the same time and always enjoys her students, even if she may be hard on you its because she wants the best out of you truly! I don't know if I could've ever passed if not by God's grace and the help Prof Raji gave every da in class
Terrible professor. Take anyone else
Professor Raji was a good teacher but sometimes her attitude can get in the way of communicating with students. She explained the work we had to do fairly well and the ALEKS work was super helpful. Just take notes, watch the videos, and do the ALEKS, the work will eventually become easier to understand.
Quality professor. Passionate about her course. Class is fast paced. ALEKS is helpful. You have to do alot of studying on your own to understand the content and pass the quizzes and tests. You have to put in time and effort
This is not an exaggeration. Take somebody else! But be warned she writes the exams for all Math 155 classes. You get no feedback, so if you don't know what you're doing you'll fail blindly.
Prof. Baradwaj's class was an... experience. I took this class in the Fall 2020 semester and it was a synchronous online class. The class is relatively easy but sometimes she would go too fast when explaining and/or act condescending. She def expects participation in her lecture so be prepared. Her attitude can be sour so be aware.
Im gonna be honest this class was horrible. I took it during the pandemic so maybe it was harder than in person, but her grading isnt clear at all. The grade on Blackboard is not the grade you end up with. She makes her study guides unnecessarily hard and it gets so confusing, so when time comes for the test you forget what to do. Take anyone els
Raji may not be everyone's favorite prof, but if you go to her office hours to do her homework she will be. She cares about her students like they're her own kids, but she doesn't put up with anything.
I am writing this after going Im into 151. Raji did not prepare us at all. it is the first week for review and I dont know half the material. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!
If you watch the videos she post you will get an A in the class. Her main problem is respect when answering questions. She often forgets we haven't spent our lives studying and may not pick things up on the first time around. The class is not difficult, but if you ask a lot of questions beware.
Online. This professor is great at math but doesn't "teach" you anything. She is combative with students who need step by step instruction on problems. She basically does math in front of you and yells at you if you ask her to explain the steps. A professor is supposed to HELP students succeed, not hamstring them and make them dread class.
People really underestimate how much she really cares about our class. I really like professor Raji. Yeah, the class is not one you can sleep through, but she drops homework and there are lots of chances in the class to bring your grade up and get an A.
Professor Raji is kind and caring. Only problem is shes a great mathematician and a terrible teacher. Not everyone thats good at math should teach math. She doesnt explain things and if you ask a question she makes you feel dumb. Take anyone else.
I actually got everything I needed from this class but this lady is honestly so rude. I still think about how upset she made me sometimes. She would track her students so closely which seems like a good thing in theory but in reality just created an awkward and tense environment. She would also tell us she thought we were going to fail our tests.
She does not know how to teach and she's terrible at teaching. She does not help you at all and if you arent good at math you will struggle.
She is tough and very firm, but she is also super kind when you show her that you want to learn and get a good grade in her class! GO TO HER OFFICE HRS! And be respectful (not playing on you phone during lecture). She moves FAST but it's totally doable.
The class is very organized. The topic is called one thing in the textbook, another on the notes, and another on the file name for the notes. If you miss a lecture its pretty hard to catch back up. She does drop a lot of low grades though and a LOT of quiz/test questions will be from the study guides and notes. A boring but easy A.
Raji moves so fast, it's hard to keep up. If you don't have a solid foundation, you'll either struggle or fail. She does drop lots of assignments which raises your grade overall, but the assignments are tough and the homework can take over 2 hours to complete. She can be rude and make students feel stupid for not understanding difficult topics.
I had taken Calculus before and was excited to take it again because I am a fan of math, but this woman made me hate it. She had an attitude and a bite when students asked questions in class. Even though I was a good student, she was still rude to me. She wastes time talking about how much our class sucked and went through material very fast.
She is very quick with explaining and is very strict with grades. Really regretted not listening to people here. Please save ur self and choose another teacher.
No. Just No.
She has an extremely heavy accent that is so difficult to understand, and she cannot/does not teach material at all. She expects you to know everything beforehand (even though it's material from the subject she's supposed to be teaching) and is not helpful in general. RUN while you have the chance. She is easily the worst teacher I've ever had.
Everyone warned me not to take Raji for Math155. I wanted a challenge so I took her. The problem is not the course but the teacher. Raji knows the material, she just expects you to read her mind and know as well. I have never spent so much time studying and and retracting myself. Save yourself some stress and try to get the other pro. STUDY
She went through content very fast but she offered extra credit opportunities with the quizzes/exams as well as dropped your lowest 3 quizzes and homeworks. She was also not the nice to the students in lecture but when you go to her office hours, she was very friendly and helpful. Overall, her grading wasn't too picky either so it's a love/hate :I
Speeds through lessons but she puts up videos if you don't understand. Funny teacher. Many opportunities to pull up your grade, you just have to pay attention.
Half of the time during lecture, you're more focused on writing down the lecture than processing the material. She gaslights students for her mistakes, and is really rude when someone asks a question. I took calc before so most of the stuff was review to me but other people struggled because she just expects you to get it and doesn't really teach.
I'd say this is a difficult class but prof. Raji is a good professor. She cares about her students and always asked us how our weekend was. She doesn't like computers. She curves almost everything. If you need extra help she tries to make office hours as accessible as possible. The textbook isn't necessary but it can be helpful.
Professor Baradwaj may sound rude in the first few lectures, but she's actually sweet. Lectures are pretty fast paced so make sure to attend office hours after class everyday. They help a lot. Drops 3 of lowest hw/classwork scores. Final exam grade is replaced with the lowest of your 2 exam scores if you get a certain grade higher. Good luck.
She might seem intimidating at first. But shes actually a very caring person and truly wants a student to get A. She drops 3 lowest hws and 3 lowest quizzes. You have 3 exams. The quizzes are all based on the hws, the tests are all based on the study guides and hws. As long as you do the hws and review them for the quizzes youll be more then fine
She is so disrespectful during lectures, she degrades students when asked a question. She is not understanding at all !! You can not even be a minute late to class or she asks that you not come at all. I had taken a half-semester of calc previously, so I did ok in the class, but if you have no background you will have a very hard time keeping up.
Professor Baradwaj wants you to do well in the class and doesn't want to hear excuses. Homework, worksheets, pre-req are easy points. Make sure you do the study guide and homework because she pulls questions straight from there. Show up to the lecture because it is extremely helpful. It is a lot of work but manageable.
had her for 106 and 150. attendance is mandatory but u can skip a handful of classes and it wont affect ur grade a lot. main thing is taking notes and doing practice problems constantly, and ur set for quizzes and tests. drops a bunch of low scores. final exam can replace low test score. never attended the SI and office hours, but help is there.
Dr. Baradwaj's lectures are very good. She will go over all types of problems in class to the point where you might not have to do practice problems during your own time. There are quizzes every week, but is pretty easy. Very strict and not approachable. She will help you, but most likely yell at you first.
100% honest...pick another professor that is teaching 150! Raji will make you feel mathematically insecure, and she will do this throughout the whole semester...which is exactly why I rarely ever participated in the lecture. I should've dropped her class when I had the chance. So serious right now. Don't take a chance on her as I did. Big mistake
Everyone hates her but as long as you keep your mask on, stay off your phone, and pay attention, she will literally love you. She only berates those who break the rules and argue with her about it. Quizzes are LITERALLY homework and class problems. Has short pre-lecture videos and amazing study guides which is 100% the test. No surprises at all.
Professor Raji is a amazing teacher, she might seem like shes mean but she cares deeply about her students success. Always go to her office hours, she helps you in the parts your struggling with and encourages you to do better. Her lectures and homeworks are very easy if you pay attention and ask questions. I would highly recommend to take.
Prof Raji is a excellent teacher for math, i've had her for 106 and 150. She gives very good lecture videos that you can easily follow along with. Her office hours are the most helpful because she helps you one on one with anything that your confused on. The tests are off the homeworks and quizzes so i would focus on those.
This was my second time taking 155 and it was definitely better with Professor Raji! Although Calculus is hard, she tries to break it down for you as much as she can. She doesn't allow cellphones in class and she will no doubt you call out if she sees you on it. I would say study hard, go to her office hours and go to TUTORING!!!!
I've taken Professor Raji for both 106 and 150, she is excellent on her teaching styles. She might come off as tough but if you go to her office hours and one on one, you have more help there than the classroom. Always look over quizzes, she uses those for the final tests and most questions are similar.
Raji can come off as abrasive sometimes but she really does care about all her students and wants everyone to pass. I loved her lecture style and she never makes the exams unfair. Don't be on your phone during class or cheat on exams/quizzes because she will find out and she WILL fail you.
Professor Raji comes off as very strict but she's truly very nice and caring. She's like every foreign mom, yes she'll raise her tone at you but for good reasons. She knows all her students are very capable. Her class structure is very clear, her lectures are very neat and organized. Please go to her office during hours its worth it. :)
Please give Raji a chance despite some of these reviews. She truly cares about her students and their success. Make the effort to attend office hours and get help early in the semester. She will go above and beyond to help you. This is not a easy pass class, you do have to work for it but take advantage of getting help as much as you can.
Study Guides: She posts study questions. Go to her directly for the answers (show work/effort) cus they often directly match questions on the test Effort: The class is hard but when you show that you care she will put in the time and effort to coach you through it. She expects a lot from her students. Those who dont like her are used to BS-ing
She's like a foreign mother when she teaches, she's harsh but she's only that way because she wants you to succeed. Ultimately, if you don't study or don't participate in class, don't be surprised when your grade doesn't turn out the way that you want it to.
She might be the worst professor at UMBC I have ever had. She will make your life harder in that class for no reason, and she is more concerned about making the class as hard as possible and acting very un-professional in a class setting, then actually caring about helping the students and ensure they are actually learning. Do not take her class.
It was a rough start when I started Math 106 during the Spring 2023 semester. I was convinced I was going to fail and I was so close to dropping the class but I stuck it through. I taught myself the majority of the content and kind of had to trick myself that I liked doing Math. Raji is an interesting character, to say the least.
Prof. Raji was great! I was in AP Calc AB in high-school, so it was a bit easier for me to understand the topics. However, people in the class that didn't have a background in this topic were constantly confused. You have to teach yourself a lot. However, the tests are extremely fair. The study guides are almost exactly like the tests.
Tough but fair, can come across as harsh sometimes during lectures but genuinely cares about seeing her students succeed. Very kind when I asked her one on one questions and makes sure you understand the concepts.
Raji was great! A lot of people complaining about her are the people who weren't willing to put in the work outside of class. This is college. Professors don't just give you all the answers. They give you resources to study on your own time. She even provided videos that literally NO ONE used and they were so helpful.
I would not recommend this teacher under any circumstances ever!!! Worst math teacher at umbc.
I chose S/U grading. Raji cares but struggles to explain and help. Assumed everyone knew everything, making it hard for those with poor math prep. She skipped steps and had the worst notes I've ever seen. Very high dropout rate for this class because of her (class went from 80 ppl to
Professor Raji is awesome, ignore almost all of the negative reviews she has. I have had her two semesters in a row, and I have never had a professor that is as helpful as her. Her lectures can be tough, just because she has to get through so much material in a short time. She is available in her office hours, and even meets students via webex.
Worst experience I've had at UMBC so far. She has a lot of practice exams, but no answer sheet, which is ironic considering the amount of mistakes she makes in her lecture examples which made it hard to study for quizzes and exams. No practice quiz or examples besides her lecture examples. The content was not even difficult, it was just her.
This class is very hard for people who don't have any prior knowledge of the foundations because she doesn't go over any of the basics. She is so funny, some people would call it rude but a couple people ask questions that she has already gone over. Great person OUTSIDE of the classroom.
This class was challenging if you struggle with math/need more in-depth explanations. There were weekly quizzes, and when asking for help, she often brushed them off. The class started with a full classroom and most of the class ended up dropping it. During lectures it felt more as though it was copying everything down and not really learning.
she's very nice. she obviosuly cares for students. quizzes were kind of hard but the tests are just like her study guides. she pulls questions out of the study guide and pastes them into the test. love her for that. so sad to see her leave this semester:(
This class was a very simple class. Although the professor could have been better. She has a I said what I said and figure it out yourself kind of approach. All notes are posted after class, so lecture attendance isn't needed, but discussion for quizzes is. She wants participation but, she comes off too strong which hinders it.
She would put the wrong answers on the study guide and proceed to change it the day of the exam even after multiple emails being sent regarding it. Would skip steps and then make it seem like what she did was common sense.
This class is very easy if you self-learn the material. The quizzes are very few questions directly from what you are learning, and there are many opportunities to drop the lowest grades on many assignments.
