This professor is clearly a bright and dedicated scientist. She is energetic and amusing (sometimes unintentionally, but she has a good sense of humour.) Unfortunately, she is also rushed and disorganized. She throws course material at students in confusing wads and expects them to figure it out. She goes into too much detail and too many tangent
I found her very hard to understand. She has a tendency to jump around from topic to topic. She made too many assumptions that students knew the everything prior to class. Moved too quickly rather than trying to let people understand she wanted to finish the course. I felt it was poorly taught. Better off learning on your own.
Amazing prof.
One of the most disorganized profs at Ryerson. Very hard to follow.
Shes a very smart teacher and all, but one BIG problem. She can't teacher, extremely hard to follow and very disorganized. She rushes through lecture materials when time is running low. She gets annoyed easily by student's questions. Whether you go to her class or not, its your choice, but to me, it's the same thing.
such a great professor with a great knowledge
You can tell that the prof is extremely knowledgeable but she doesn't know how to explain concepts in a clear manner. Very disorganized- had to self-teach a few chapters towards the end of the class because of lack of time.Goes on too many unrelated tangents and keeps jumping between material making it difficult for students to follow.
Oh my, why is she even on this site, i wouldnt even call her a professor. Doesnt teach well, she gets annoyed easily when students ask her questions, hard to understand her, and rushes things. She also have an expectation for you to underestand everything she've said. Either drop her class, or stay home and read the text book. Horrible Professor
As others have said she is clearly intelligent in her field. However, she is completely unorganized, she would spend 20 minutes some classes simply trying to get the projector screen to come down, etc. Many of her handouts were written with terrible handwriting. Hours wasted, she tried to reclaim time by speeding through the harder chapters.
Amazing, I love this lady, funny, smart and creates fair exams!!! shes the best
Very unorganized and unclear: mid-lesson, she'll be reminded of something that'll be covered later, and she jumps there. Then back. She takes questions, but gets distracted by another one. However, fair exams, and she tells you what's on the exam.
Really enjoyed this class...sometimes she moves too fast but when she slows down shes great at explaining concepts. The woman is a genius. Exams are VERY fair.
She was very nice, the accent was a big heavy at the beginning but its not hard to understand what she said. She knows the material by heart and very well which I think is the most important thing in teaching a course.
Dr. Iyer is a great professor. She knows her filed wery well and she is enthusiastic. She is very flexible and tries to adjust to students, unfotrunately many take advantage of that. I have no respect for those who are laughing when for example she tries to set the DVD to work. I guess its the age of being immature and stupid for many students.
She is a nice professor but she is kind of a push over..She likes to use a lot of films during her lectures.. Her forensic class consists of a few cases studies, a mid-term, a 10 page paper and a final exam. Most questions on the mid term were from the crime kit that comes with the textbook and she also posts sample questions on blackboard :)
You can tell that she knows a lot of stuff but she keeps jumping from one topic on to the other making it very hard for students to follow. All in all, absolutely not a great teacher, IMO!
Hands down the most disorganized prof I've ever had. She rushed everything and jumped all over the place. I practically taught myself everything out of the textbook.
She is very nice and knowledgeable. She cares about her students a lot. Her exams are fair. She is a little bit disorganized which I believe bothers herself not her students. If you want to learn Organic Chemistry by heart, take a course with her.
She's very knowledgeable in the course material. Attending the lecture isn't necessary as long as she has the lecture material posted. Study from the book. She takes time to make sure everyone is on the same page. Overall a very kind, caring and sometimes hilarious prof!
She is a really good teacher. Cares so much for her students. She is very clear with concepts which helped a lot in understanding organic chemistry. She would play youtube videos & makes the class do exercises just for us to understand her. Good teacher!!!
She marks hard on the essay and is confusing...
Such a wonderful women. Very kind heart and tries very hard to please everyone. Unfortunately a lot people took advantage of her kindness however she extended our essay due date by a week and had she not I possible would have failed it. I highly recommend taking forensic science with her for your elective.
She is a very caring person but gets taken advantage of. She is willing to listen to the suggestions of her students, which is a good thing but imo seems out of it some times because people can pull tricks right under her nose without her realization. Feel bad for her.
When I saw all the bad reviews everyone gave her before taking the course i got scared and thought to myself maybe it's just slackers who rate her down. After taking the course I realized they were right. Do not take this course as your elective!!! The work required to get& maintain a high mark in the course is too much for an elective.
she does not give a mark above a 75 for the final essay! -.- makes noo sense. Her classes were okay
People are not being fair, I took the same course and I got 87% for the final essay. She IS a fast talker and the course did cover a lot so it wasn't easy. But she reminded us numerous times what would be in exam and I got 85%. If you're interested in forensic science, by all means take it, but be ready to work. Don't expect an A for doing nothing!
Dr. Iyer is a lovely professor. She is a fast talker be aware of that! Over all she is a great professor. She knows all of the content! What they say is true be prepared to do lots of work! It is not an easy A. Overall I enjoyed her class and I would recommend it if your into CSI type of stuff!
She is a pretty good professor. She get's to the point tells you exactly what she will test you on. She let's everyone do the case, even during the exam. Midterm was a joke, the final was fair. She marks hard on the paper. Overall a good prof an a really interesting class. Take her!
Lots of material covered in a short time. she talks very fast but she knows and explains the content well. it is not an "Easy A" but it is a fun course to take if you're into CSI and stuff.
amazing
I don't understand why she las a low rating. She repeats herself incessantly and tells you EXACTLY what will be on the exam and what won't be. What more do you want in a prof? The material is complex, but she repeats herself so much, you would be an idiot not to remember it. You will walk away from her class feeling very intelligent.
Raji is a sweet lady, and funny at times. Class was very interesting, however it is NO bird course. Her midterm was brutal, marks the essay hard, but the final was very easy. She tells you the major concepts to know for the final which is very helpful. Overall a good prof, but you have to work for your marks.
Professor Iyer is very clear at explaining material. The material is hard, but she repeats it so many times that you are bound to hear her voice echoing during your test! She is always there for her students and is very concerned about them doing well. Must put in work because it is a hard subject.
Lots of content for a elective. Do not recommend. Professor takes forever to reply to emails, and even when she does she does not help you.
As an elective, the professor could have made it a bit easier. Definitely not a bird course. Lots of material covered. The material CAN be interesting though, that was the upside of this course. Professor Iyer reads off her slides and can be clueless at times. As a professor, she's disorganized. As a person, she's very sweet.
So far I've been in this class for 15 minutes and I can honestly say that the 19th century has passed faster than this.
She can be a little bit confusing at times, but she really tries to help you out. She will go over future problems on the midterms or the exam 3 or 4 times. Pay attention and understand what she says and you will do fine. Marks relatively easy as well (as long as you don't DO one of her chemistry pet peeves on a question).
Orgo is tough but this professor gives so many examples THAT ACTUALLY END UP ON YOUR EXAMS. Don't miss her review classes before tests or exams because MANY of those exact questions or very very similar will end up on your exam. Go see her if you dont like your mark, she can gives feedback on how you can help yourself and etc
She repeats everything you need to know & tells everything you need to know. If you don't get at least a 3.0+ you did not show up to class or listened. She is an amazing teacher & knows a lot about forensic science!
Very disorganized. Would post the lectures a few mins before or after class, forget due dates, tried to cram mechanisms in at the last min, and her written notes were everywhere. Used many different textbooks rather than sticking to the one she assigned us. Teaches very fast and speaks unclearly. Tries to be helpful by offering reviews & office hrs
CHY224 was a content-heavy course, but Dr. Rajeshwari was the reason for the students' success. She had very informative lectures but constantly pointed out what would be on her exams. She was very caring, and had all her lecture notes posted online since the start of the term. One of my all-time favorite professors, and definitely recommend her!
GO TO CLASS!! She may be a little bit overwhelming and fast paced but her examples are exactly on the midterm. She'll even tell you it'll be on the midterm and it will. Don't be stupid like the rest of the class and not show up to class because you'll only hurt your grade if you do.
Forensics is pretty interesting, the prof does lecture notes and shows videos, which are testable. She also tells u to do the multiple choice tests in the textbook and posts the answers. She usually goes over the main points so show up to class and listen to her! Overall, the course will be easy if you put in some effort and the prof is sweet too!
Worst prof in the chemistry program at Ryerson. Very unorganized. Spent the first 3 months of class barely teaching new concepts, and then all of a sudden introduced so many 2/3 weeks before the final. Made it really hard to keep up. Go out of your way to avoid this prof.
She's an understanding professor and gives great feedback. Always there to help students. Great teacher. Her midterms and exam are fair game.
Dr Iyer is VERY caring and will try her best to make sure everyone understands what she is teaching. She is very clear with what is testable material. Doing textbook questions is a must for practice.
She takes her teaching VERY seriously, which makes her a great prof. She makes sure that a concept is understood before moving on. I ended up learning most of the content from the textbook, but the lectures helped to clear up any misunderstandings. Tests are fair; just make sure to do all the practice problems!
Dr. Iyer is my favorite chem prof by far! She is extremely caring, helpful, & knows her stuff. Her lectures are great & she does examples but, I would still read the textbook and do practice questions as the content is hard. She rushed a bit at the end because we were behind but her exams were very fair. Definitely practice old exams she posts!
Raji is a great professor and understands students really well. She makes sure you do well in the course and gives lots of hints for exams and midterms so attendance is mandatory. She's very sweet and kind.
Amazing course and professor!!!! Attend the class and you will receive a good grade. She provides a lot of examples for the exams. Great lecture notes. Essay is very simple and straight forward.
Amazing prof, truly wants each and every student to do amazing. Genuinely cares and is willing to spend time on concepts that are confusing. Sometimes a little rude, but overall a good prof
Good lectures that aren't overly boring. Makes it easy to follow along and really cares about her students. Very sweet and caring woman.
if you keep up and do all the work you will be perfectly fine. If you slip and skip through things, you're done.
She's a very knowledgeable prof, and she's sweet and cool. Extended the final essay by a week. She has a lot of info on her ppts, and its rlly lecture heavy, but the course is so fun!!! One of the best courses and profs I've had, likes to show a lot of videos too
CHY 183 is a useless course... the content is 100% from the textbook, other than some videos from Youtube. You dont need to make this into a university course because the teacher doesnt make a difference in terms of content.
She was an okay professor. I was excited to take the forensic science course (CHY183), and the content itself is cool, but I wasn't expecting the amount of science she was teaching. I studied some science in high school, but if you didn't I don't recommend this course with this prof, she goes crazy on it and its really random
Shes definitely not a professor to go the extra mile but sticks to the textbook . If youre regular with her lectures and readings theres no way you wont do well in her class
The course is lecture heavy but super interesting! She also shows videos. Weekly quizzes help boost your mark but overall its an easy course if you just show up class and study the material.
Took forensic science with Raji and she was super sweet. A very good teacher and can tell she is passionate about what she teaches which helps. Sometimes she does rush the lectures but the topics are usually very easy to understand even if you miss it during the class times. The tests and assignments are manageable which helps.
Dr. Iyer was an outstanding professor! This semester was online and she made the learning environment very practical and easy to understand. There are MyLab assignments on a weekly basis, a 30% essay, 2 case studies and both a midterm and final exam. She goes over the content very precisely and presents forensic files videos based on each topic.
A good prof and is also an easy marker. There were quizzes to do which were all multiple choice on a platform called my CJ lLab. You have to pay around $60 CAD which is not worth it because she could have easily done this over D2L. Take this course if you want to boost your average and learn more about forensics.
I love Dr. Iyer. She is a caring professor, she extended our class essay by 5 days to help us out a bit in midst of our other busy courses. She goes into a lot of detail about the course, her exams and case studies are not too hard though.
Great prof. Really informative and knowledgeable, lectures and videos shown were really interesting. Easy and straightforward assessments. Dont be afraid to speak up or ask questions, she's got great insight on so many topics. Recorded lectures.
im kind of confused by the good ratings. her lectures were completely pointless and boring. she just reads off the slides and doesn't actually explain anything. she's also extremely rude. the only good thing is that the tests were extremely easy and she marks decent on assignments.
Attend the lectures. She gives insightful information that will help you with tests and assignments. they aren't super difficult and the marking is fair. She's willing to accommodate and provide extensions if necessary. She reads off slides but provides examples and important info. She's very intelligent and is an inspiration. I'd recommend her :)
Amazing professor! She is so nice and explains the concepts very well with examples too!
She was okay.. She didn't provide a syllabus at the start of the semester and a lot of the students were confused as to what chapter we were doing for that week. when we asked her to provide one she got angry and even yelled at some of the students. she wasn't a hard marker but wasn't the most pleasant prof.
Forensics is actually really interesting but Dr. Iyer made me hate it. I took this class as an elective but I am now traumatized. She is such a hard marker and her feedback on the essays makes no sense. If you do take her, make sure you go to the lectures because a lot of questions on the midterms/exam are based on what she says during them.
I've never received the worst grade. I did all the work and was doing fairly well in the class, however the paper caused me to almost fail the class. I do not recommend.
Raji was a great teacher but not the nicest. I had never taken a science course but she was good at explaining the concepts. However, she would be rude to students sometimes. The course overall was easy as long as you attend class.
Dr. Iyer was fantastic, her guidelines on assignments were clear, and the midterm and final were not difficult if you attended lectures. Overall, this class was super interesting and made me wish there was a forensic science program at TMU.
ended with a 90. got 100% on case study and quizzes. mid 90 for midterm and final exam ( all on Quizlet) but I got a 75 on my essay with no feedback. it was a 10-12 page essay on boring topics and worth 30% of our grade. you do have to pay 84$ for the textbook for the weekly quizzes - easy 10%. she is rude, rarely attended class. overall easy A.
Dr. Iyer is a fantastic professor who mixes old school & modern teaching methods to teach Orgo 2. She used iClickers & WileyPLUS, which really helped reinforce concepts. Her old-school method of randomly picking people to answer questions during class WORKS for your success, so don't feel intimidated. She is blunt, but very caring and responsive.
It was a pleasure to have been taught by Dr. Iyer. When explaining complex concepts in organic chemistry, she takes her time to ensure that the class understood the material and even reviewed material from Organic Chemistry I to help us retain key points. Her assessments are incredibly fair and easy to do well in as long as you attend class.
An Amazing human being with a good heart, She wants all student to do good. She might not be up to date technology but she has an immense amount knowledge.
She's passionate about what she teaches and I enjoyed her class, it's not the easiest class out there but if you're interested in the subject matter it's worth it. I enjoyed that she would show TV show episodes on forensics that related to the content and were interesting. I did find however that she talked really fast which made taking notes hard.
She's really nice but goes like 5x speed during lecture explaining mechanisms. Explains concepts well if you can follow, other than that try your best to keep up with copying down whatever is written on the board. Tests and exams are really easy just do the assigned practice questions are literally 1:1.
She is quite sweet, her lectures are quite informative she knows her stuff and is really considerate about deadlines and student opinions. It's a fast paced course but not hard, start working on your essay in the start and you'll do well.
- Your going to have to go to classes or pray she posts a video, and be prepared because she speaks at a mile a minute. - I was not expecting to have to drop nearly $100 on an elective for a textbook that I know shes getting a kickback on. It's really scummy locking quizzes and marks behind something like that.
While Dr Iyer is an incredibly knowledgeable professor she is incredibly rude to students. There have been multiple times where she has been aggressive with me both in the classroom and via email. Simple questions often get skipped over due to this. Pay attention to slide shows and the textbook because she probably won't provide any clarification
If you have an interest in forensics or true crime and want to take this class just be prepared for all the science and chem that comes with it. she's a very nice prof and the readings are an online textbook which is not difficult at all, but SHOW UP TO LECTURES cause that's where you get most of the information. she answers emails quick too.
Despite being knowledgeable, she is quite rude, and questions students for being late while frequently being late herself. Lectures are entirely from a textbook we have to pay for, and she unnecessarily covers scientific concepts despite this being an elective. The course itself is interesting, but her teaching style makes it unbearable.
Taking intro to forensic sciences is my biggest academic regret. It's for non-science students, but Dr. Iyer talks about concepts as if everyone knows a lot about science already. She would rush through entire chapters in 45 minutes, but expect us to know super specific things on tests. Way too much stress for a class that's supposed to be fun.
This was one of my favorite classes and I wish TMU had more forensics. You don't need to know science. It is American based which is pretty cool. I learnt a lot. I liked the Forensic Files bc it was pretty engaging and I enjoy watching true crime.
RUN! whatever you do, I beg you to not take Dr. Iyer's Intro to Forensic course. It will hurt your GPA. She is not capable of teaching this to non-science students as she will bring up intense chemistry topics and test us on that. The exam was incredibly hard.Legit expects you to memorize everything. I could go longer but there's a word count. RUN!
She is a nice person, the course was interesting. The midterm and final were very heavy though, definitely not a bird course.
Do not take any of her classes! She has a mandatory textbook for $100 that 10% of your grade is tied to. She is extremely rude to all students and will humiliate students in front of everyone. Her tests and material is extremely science based and tests are very hard for being a 183 course. Take this as your sign to get out while you can.
content is super interesting if u like orgo. u learn about spectroscopy, carbonyls, carboxylic acids, amines and synthesis. her tests were very straightforward as she covers all bases in lectures. she can go a bit fast but will tell u everything u need to know for the tests. also does a lot of practice Qs in class that she repeats on tests.
Dr. Iyer is rude, disrespectful and forgetful. There is a mandatory $96 textbook where you take online quizzes worth 10% of your mark. For a course designed for non-science students, it was still very difficult. Final exam was way harder than the midterm and consisted of 84 multiple choice questions + a short answer question. Do not recommend.
strict but great teacher. for those who dont have a basic background in bio and chem, this would be a hard course. her exam review was helpful along with videos explaining different concepts learnt in class. the only reason why i wouldnt take this class again is bc its not rly a gpa booster, you rly have to do the readings and go to all classes.
She was fine in the beginning of the course, most of the content was basic science knowledge of biology and chemistry. HOWEVER, she is passive aggressive, can be rude to her students and expects us to do well but rushes through 70+ slides in like 30 minutes! But honestly if you go through slides and textbook at your pace and study, you're good.
content is super interesting if u like orgo. she does teach a bit fast and lectures can be a bit overwhelming but she covers everything u need to know for the tests in class so if u attend and practice assigned problems, u will do well. always strive to understand and not memorize!! she was also super sweet to me.
Honestly, the reviews are a lot harsher than she deserves. Read the textbook, participate once or twice in class and you'll be fine. A bit of a temperament for sure but honestly they're quite funny… She is flexible when delivering lectures which can be online or in class. But she is quite forgetful about what went on the previous class.
