Loved this class, maybe it was becuase I love math but the professor was also great. This course is really easy if the student has any background in Calculus. Quizes every week but we always review them and HW most of the time. The professor was really easy to reach and helpful. I would recomend this class to everyone who is interested in math.
AWFUL! Condescending and rude.
Awful teacher...is on her own agenda as far as teaching style and takes satisfaction in stumping students. As far as notes in class she only gives a definition or two then one example...the homework is online and does not reflect the difficulty of her tests..so how do you prepare? Often laughs to herself when stumping student like its a joke...
She is very condescending and often answers student's questions by being very glib. She refuses to answer a large portion of the in class questions and will only offer you assistance if you come meet her after class in the math workshop which meets at odd hours. Her quizzes and tests are graded ridiculously nit picky and if you ever have an absence
I don't know what anyone on here is talking about. Math is normally my worst subject and it's solely because of her that I'm not only passing but doing well. You have to work hard but she's incredibly helpful and wants you to do well. TAKE RAJ!
She is great at being available for extra help, even if you only want some extra problems to make sure you understand what's happening. I don't understand why anyone would think that she's condescending, because she is always trying to help students get over the problems that stump them, so that, in the future, they can overcome the same problem.
Raj is a great teacher! She is happy doing her job and understands students. I loved taking Calculus with her and learned so much. If u dedicate time and effort youll do well in her class.
Best teacher at Northeastern by far. TAKE HER!!!
This is one of the easiest Calculus classes there is and Raj is a fantastic teacher for it. There is no trig or quotient rule and Raj is laid back and willing to help you and be flexible when turning things in within reason.
Raj is not the greatest teacher. She doesn't explain topics very well and she is not helpful in office hours. Her quizzes and tests are loosely based on the review guides but some questions come from the textbook which she doesn't go over in class. The class is not too difficult, but it's mostly self-taught. Pick a different professor if possible.
Raj doesn't "teach", everything is self taught, if you have taken calculus before you will pass this class if you have not be prepare to struggle and probably pay for a tutor.
Worst teacher I've ever had - taught new material by putting one example on board and explaining it at end of class. If I had not taken calculus before I would have definitely failed.
She was an okay teacher. I took calc before but I feel bad for those who didn't. She would only do one example . If you do take her class, go to her office hours. She's better at explaining there. TAs were also always there. I could tell she's very enthusiastic about math. Overall, it was okay. It might have been better if class wasnt at 8am.
If you've had calc before this class is an easy A. This class is mainly just basic derivatives and integrals. If you didn't you may struggle, as Raj is not great at explaining the concepts. My suggestion is go to a friend who has had calc before and ask for clarification. The quizzes and tests are very easy, easier than the online homework.
Worst professor I've ever had. Could not teach the fundamentals of Calculus. So glad I took Calc before taking this class, but could understand why people did so poorly.
Personally, I think that she is a really nice person. However, I don't think she's a good teacher. I had already taken Calculus in high school before so, I managed to get a good grade but she was really bad at explaining. She tends to write an example on the board of a question and asks us how to answer it without really explaining anything.

Prof. Jesudason is a sweet lady, and will help you if you have trouble. Her explanations in class, however, are difficult to understand at times, and, since her notes are not prepared in advance, often jump around as she writes on the board. Make sure to do the review problems and online HW, as they reflect tests/quizzes better than class work.
She is extremely disorganized and does not have a lesson plan on most days. Assumes that you already know Calculus, so if you didn't come to class already having done Calculus then good luck. Her grading criteria is mostly unclear. Also fails to post homework solutions even when reminded. Nice person, but bad at teaching. Would NOT recommend.
If you go to her office hours, it helps a lot. Don't really learn that much through the lectures but by getting help from her, it's fairly easy to do well in the class
She's very helpful and the class isn't too bad. Just don't be dumb and study!
Raj is extremely smart but not in an intimidating way. She wants you to learn and is excited when you understand or add your own way of thinking. She also wants her students to be excited and engaged, as a student, you know shes on your side. You can really tell she has a love of learning and teaching which makes class very enjoyable.
Refuses to answer questions, instead cuts students off when they try to understand things. Loves to stump kids with difficult questions & then hold the answers over their heads condescendingly. She seems to expect that everyone in her calc class has already taken calc, because she doesn't actually teach the content in class. Worst professor ever.
Worst professor I've had so far at Northeastern. She literally expects you to remember everything from Algebra you took in high school and doesn't give you a heads up to review certain Algebra concepts when a quiz comes up. She is unhelpful in class so I basically have to self-teach myself every single time. Take Rekha Bai instead!
I took the Calc 1231 class and it was really easy for me becuz I've taken a much harder calc class in high school. She's a really nice teacher but you might struggle a bit if you have no background in calc. Also, she teaches very conceptually and doesn't use any specific examples. So if you learn from examples then I suggest you to not take her.
I had a very weak background in math and it had never been my strongest subject. Taking this calc class made me really nervous at first, but Raj told us from the beginning what we needed to succeed. I basically just paid attention, did the work, and went to office hours and ended the class with an A
Fails to teach anything, and basically expects students to have taken calc already. If you have taken calc in high school, this class is easy, if not, good luck!
Raj is a good teacher, I was a bit afraid to take her after reading the comments but she is very helpful and if you put in a decent effort she will see it and help you get the grade you want.
If you've taken calc before you will breeze through this. Even if not, you will probably be fine. You have to buy a class packet in the beginning of the semester. That is your bible, know and understand all the review in there (it's easy) for each quiz, midterm, and final and you'll be set.
Raj is a decent professor who explains calc concpets well and is patient when clearing doubts. If you've taken calc before in high-school, this course should be extremely easy (an easy A). But don't worry even if u haven't because the course is really easy. LOTS OF QUIZZES THO (25% OF TOTAL GRADE, THEYR'E EASY)
Very nice and caring, helpful outside of class.
Decent teacher, have outside help if you have not done calc 1 before. She is nice and accessible at office hours but the structure of the class if hard bc there isnt many solutions posted to homework or practice. Online assignments don't show you how to do it. Just grades if right or wrong. So if you haven't done calc 1 before, get a tutor!
Professor Raj doesn't really know how to teach and the class is very hard if you're not good in math. She was late to all my classes and is a very tough grader specially in the group project. She is very unorganized, lost our midterms and made us all retake it and a week later found them which was so unfair. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! Self teach to pass
Nice woman but super disorganized/ all over the place and not an effective teacher. Unless you have learned the material before, do not take this class. Lost our midterms and made us retake them over a month later.
Its important to go to class for calc for business and econ but if you happen to miss a class raj is extremely helpful in office hours. make sure you do the homework and put effort into the group projects. she is a very nice woman and a great teacher i would strongly recommend.
An amazing prof and person. Always there to help. Teaches well and is very accessible outside class hours. A lot of emphasis on quizzes. The exams are based of the quizzes and are easy if you do well in the quizzes.
Difficult class, not easy to understand concepts
I don't get why Raj gets a bad rep. I had taken calc before so understanding concepts was easy. I can't speak on behalf of people who hadn't yet taken calc but if you have already taken a calc course, Raj's class reinforces concepts and is super easy. Raj herself is super nice and while calc isn't simple, she makes it bareable. Good class overall.
Although a very nice person, she cannot teach at all. She puts one problem on the board each class and calls that a lesson. Very unclear on what she's teaching and which topics are on the test. She also teaches a new topic a day before the test and expects you to understand it. Your grade hinges on 6 quizzes, 2 tests, and the final.
Teaches all the concepts of calc, very determined to help you learn, if you need help just ask.
Raj is an amazing professor. The class was difficult as someone who is not math-inclined. But if you put in effort to learn the material during and outside of class, she will meet you where you are at and help you to do well in the class. She cares about her students and wants to see them succeed.
Raj teaches as if her students have previous knowledge of calc concepts. She was late to class every day and always had excuses. Her lessons were just a few problems on the board and asked students to solve them. She also doesn't clearly state what will be on the exams, so studying for her class was hard. Easy A or B if you've taken calc before.
Good person, not good teacher. If you have recently taken/like Calc, easy A. She doesn't teach material in class, just has students solve problems on board. Illegible writing sometimes. Had to buy textbook: useless. Used Chegg and tutors to learn material. Tests are not easy, but not impossible. Tests and quizzes heavily come from Class Packet!!
I loved Raj. She was always willing to help and provide her guidance through the course. However, her calc class is not for the weak. If you didn't already take calc you will NEED a tutor, she moves quickly. I enjoyed her class nonetheless and would gladly take her class again. Lov u raj <3
Very helpful and is willing to help. Holds in person office hours that help a lot. I didnt take calc before but Raj made it easy to learn. Class is pretty basic and not too hard but some problems on tests are sort of random and cause you to think. Overall, not a hard class, just need to put in the work.
Professor Jesudason is a very caring and supportive teacher. She is very busy but still takes the time to respond to emails quickly and talk to students about any worries or other general life stuff! Easy A if you have taken calc. If not, read the textbook, use online resources, office hours, etc, as her lectures don't always cover everything.
Raj is pretty good. If you have to take MATH1231 then take it with Raj because she does a good job of offering student's resources outside of class time to help. It kinda sucks because the graders she has sometimes grade harsher then how she would grade and can be frustrating, but overall I suggest Raj for this course. A or A- is doable.
If you try you'll do okay. Sort of hard but she gives partial points if you show your work and the tests are a repetition of what you do for hw/class.
She's a great person, but struggles teaching concepts. Office hours are helpful, online homework is generally unhelpful. Nearly everything is from the class packet. The group project is fairly confusing, but is a pretty good grade boost. Tests are fairly difficult.
She is Nice but That's it. She goes off on tangents and expects you to know all of the calculus before even stepping foot in her class. She doesn't have clear criteria and refuses to help when students are severely struggling. Her class made me and my friends cry due to the unnecessarily hard content.
Raj means well, but this class is awful.10 quizzes with the lowest 3 dropped, and 2 exams with the final being 40%. She never actually taught, instead just went over examples, and then taught topics not taught in class in a condescending way. Most of the class struggled, and she offered little to no support. Raj's section is way too hard. AVOID
She is way too condescending and Elitest to teach this or any course. she spent majority of class time scolding us for not already being geniuses on the course material. Majority of the class struggled those who didn't had already taken AP Calculus. AVOID FOR YOUR OWN SAKE.
Absolutely horrible. The only good part of this class is Brad, her TA. He is so sweet and willing to help with anything and everything. This Prof. is rude, and condescending, and treats all her students like they should be mathematicians. News flash lady, not everyone is good with numbers and wants to be a Math Professor. Stop answering Q's w Q's.
Awful.
This Professor made me consider dropping my major. She expects you to walk having done 12 hours of review the night before, news flash lady there is only 24 hours in a day. She basically called the entire class stupid and then showed us inspirational videos about the power of positivity. Like ma'am haven't you caused me enough anxiety already?
Taking her class was like slow torture. I would go to office hours and practice on my own and I would still cry over my homework every night. I'm telling you she genuinely gets pleasure out of seeing us suffer. I feel like everyone in my class bonded over surviving her so-called teaching. If you value your mental health avoid it at all costs
Condescending and mean for no reason
Ive never had a teacher pray on my downfall as often as she does. She literally enjoys watching us struggle. My classmates and I low-key have collective anxiety because of struggling through this class.
You can tell that Raj cares about students and likes to teach, she also tries her best to be accessible outside of class. However, she is not good at teaching in an understandable way and teaches things that you don't even need to know since she just rambles a bunch. You'll often find yourself teaching yourself the course content. Try to avoid.
RAJINI IS A BAD TEACHER. She always comes to the 8:00 am class 30 minutes late and tries to make several excuses about how the T broke down 10 times . She leaves confusing reviews on the group projects and cuts points off for unnecessary corrections. She does not what to correct in the group project properly as well . DO NOT TAKE HER .
She takes the T, so 80% of the time she's 10-15 minutes late. She doesn't take attendance but she doesn't post her notes. She posts extra practice if you need it. She's not as bad as I was afraid the reviews were but she's not great. Middle of the road. All homework is on webassign.
Always late, doesn't how to teach at all, classes are not helpful and a waste of time.
Prof Rajini is not as bad as people make her to be, at least based on my experience. I can see why people don't like her, as some of my classmates complain that she doesn't teach well. Imo she is just confusing, but she's super accessible outside of class and approachable when you need to ask her something. She's nice!
ALWAYS LATE TO CLASS. She emailed the class that she will be 10 minutes late. 20 minutes later we received another email saying we will meet on zoom... She also rambles a lot. She gives partial credit on exams and quizzes (8 in total) but is just straight up lazy.
Raj is late to class often and her lectures can be unclear. She always says what will be on the quiz. If you didn't do well in pre-calculus, you will definitely need a tutor. She didn't make the homework required but sometimes pulled homework problems to put on the quizzes. As long as you communicate with her and show effort, you will do well.
She is always in late to class and will email other students to write questions on the board. She often goes on tangents with useless information & her lectures often don't cover all the information you need for the tests. But if you are willing to go to office hours, you will do well.
She doesn't teach at all. Always late to class (20 minutes) and blame the T (green line) for being too crowded. Always teach easy stuff in class, and then it gets difficult on the test. Homework was chill on Cengage. 100% never retake her class again. If you get picked on, your dead
If you don't know calc and you're taking this class, DO NOT take it with her. Sure she may be a nice person, but she spends very little time on concepts and expects you to understand them. The only reason I was able to do well was because I already knew the stuff. Go for someone else.
If you need to take Calculus or Math Thinking at Northeastern, DO NOT take Raj. The only way I was able to pass this class was by watching all the videos (taught by a different professor) and by going to TA hours (again a different person ). Professor Raj is unclear in her lectures and doesn't seem to know the material she is teaching, herself.
Do not take this class! She did not teach anything and it was so difficult. My best advice is to not take it, it is too much work without the help of the professor
Most condescending teacher I've ever had. Instead of answering questions she makes the class answer for some reason (and waste time). She writes so small which makes it so half the class can't see. Futhermore, she expects you to know the material already, which for some students is a struggle. She wasn't late to class like the others suggest.
Avoid.
Impossible to do well. She jumps from one topic to another and often goes on tangents about her personal life. Very few examples are done in class and hw has nothing to do with the tests. Claims to be available and willing to help, but will always blame the student, even for illness. Do not miss class! Grades not published until end of semester.
Professor Raj, is truly a caring person. Don't get me wrong, this course is very difficult, but she makes sure students are aware of resources outside of class! I am not a fan of math, but this course might have changed that. I never thought I'd be saying this but I'm glad she's pushed me to achieve things I didn't think I could with calc!
Although at times difficult to keep up with and definitely does not have a conventional teaching style, Professor Raj is a caring and considerate teacher. Raj pushes students to their fullest potential and is very accommodating to student needs outside class. She is willing to assist students hours past her office hours and make sure you succeed.
She is a difficult teacher but if you put in the work it works. ALSO BEWARE OF THE WAY SHE DRESSES BECAUSE HER CLOTHING IS SO DISTRACTINGGGG FOR MY ADHD!
The profesor was nice but she was just bad at teaching, she did not care how the students did at all and was a really though grader.
She hardly teaches the content of the class needed to complete the homework, goes on rants on the most random stuff in class. DO NOT TAKE.
Don't somehow she had the whole class confused, lost, scared, and helpless. Don't.
I assure you, Rajini Jesudason is out to get her students. I believe that she's a good person, but she is unfitting as a professor. She will purposefully regrade exams to take points off, cold call, and rush through material the day before the quiz or test. I've had harder courses with lower rated professors, yet none were as inadequate as her.
Goes on random rants about things. Very disorganized with resources and content that will be on the quiz. Gets very defensive when you try to tell her her resources are confusing. No study guide and barely helps coming up with a plan when asked.
If you wanna learn Calc 1, I do NOT recommend this course, especially if you've never taken Calc before. She goes on random long tangents about her personal life which is great for small talk but terrible for class. 0/10.
Avoid at all costs. Worst professor I've ever had. Doesn't teach, is rude, grades extremely unfairly, and makes things so complicated. I took the class in high school and still didn't do great. Just avoid her if you can.
lectures are all over the place, jumps from topic to topic and doesn't tie everything together, super hard grader, tests are sometimes on material we've never learned, overall don't recommend
WORST professor. I was sick for three classes and couldn't catch up.Told me"Ur not the student u used to be" and made me cry. Has no teaching plan. Semester gets increasingly harder.Vids helped. No notes published to review. Doesn't tell u ur grade in class until semester is over and claims that PET PEEVE IS PEOPLE NOT KNOWING THEIR OVERALL GRADE?
If you took calc in high school I feel like you will be fine. I was able to understand most things since I took ap calc. She does go on tangents sometimes and does max three questions in one class. There isn't a ton of practice to do outside of the course pack which was annoying. Put a lot of detail in the group project. Overall not the worst class
she gets bagged on cuz it's calc, but tbh she is a caring professor, super accessible out of class, and puts in the effort to help you if you reach out. she goes over few problems in class, so go to her office hours. the group project is doable and an easy A if done well. Exams are tough of course, so practice using the online textbook.. it's good!
just a bad prof.... like, ur just not gonna enjoy this class.
She doesn't show your grade during the class, so you have no idea if you're passing or not. She claims that knowing your grade is 'bad,' which is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Two of my friends didn't realize they were failing and ended up not passing. If they had known earlier, they could have dropped the class. She's the reason that happened
Comes off as very caring and definitely wants to help her students however she depends too much on the students' prior knowledge and somehow say a lot while nearly nothing gets across. She was kind enough to give an extra quiz plus a quiz dropped since the final grade is made up of just quizzes and the final, but no bg knowledge = suffer.
As someone who didn't do well in her class and knew nothing about calculus prior to taking it, Raj was super helpful and kind. She reached out when I was struggling and pushed me to succeed. Tests and final are pretty hard, but if you do well on the group project and do the homework you can get a good grade. Lectures are pretty useless imo.
I had her for mathematical thinking and it was one of the best classes I've ever taken. She lectures in the way that she engages the class so everyone learns. Before every quiz you can have her go through anything you are confused on. I would 100% take this class again.
Although she was approachable for extra help, Raj did not use class time in an organized or helpful way. She would talk mostly about her personal life in class and would do very few practice problems. I had to teach myself everything through youtube. The hmwrk did not match up with what was on the tests, making it nearly impossible to do well.
There's only one way to pass - don't take this prof!! No clear teaching, no grade updates, tons of work with no reminders, rude to students, and acts like we're PhD math majors. Creates tension instead of helping. Lowk wants kids to fail to prove her insane points. This class will ruin your semester. Run like a plague is chasing you.
Raj's class was challenging at first because it took some time to understand her teaching style and personality. However, once you adjust, the class itself isn't bad. You just need to be prepared to teach yourself much of the material. She does tend to share a lot about her personal life during lectures.
If I hadn't taken calc 1 in high school I would have been so lost in her class. I was honestly scared for the people in the class who were taking calc 1 for the first time because we jumped in to some topics with no help or flow. Even I was left confused when she taught sometimes.
I've seen this professor tell her student he should get EVALUATED because he didn't understand derivatives---------- do I need to say anything else.
Take it during the summer- get it over with quicker and more straight to the point. Smaller class means you have to participate (you will get called on). Practice and memorize. Very accessible outside of class. Relatively nice professor. As someone who has failed pre-calc in high school, this was really easy. Calculate your grade or you won't know.
Professor Jesudason is extremely passionate about math, and I've found her explanations to be clear and easy to understand. She is a light grader and gives lots of partial credit on quizzes and midterms which is very helpful. However, prepare to do some practice outside of class because she does waste a lot of class time talking or OVERexplaining.
Don't take it if u are very good at math! She has a lot of quizzes and tests. I can't understand what she's talking about. I learned it all by myself!
She was a calm professor, and if you were struggling, she strongly encouraged you to attend her office hours regularly. However, during office hours she often talked about her business class, which could be distracting. I found the quizzes challenging, and I would sometimes feel overwhelmed after getting them back.
Does not post grades online and is not great at describing or teaching any content in the course. She seems like a nice person, just not a good teacher in my opinion.
I had her for Calc1 and while, yes, you do have to do a lot of practice//teaching yourself outside of class, I think her lectures were actually really interesting. She is very passionate and cares about her students. Focuses a lot on the "why" behind things, which I liked. Obviously, that teaching style isn't for everyone so do what works for you.
I loved Prof. Raj and how passionate she is. I know some people think her explanations might be long winded but honestly I liked having that level of depth. Her emphasis on real life application (imo) was the most unique thing about the class compared to other profs & genuinely made me like math more as someone who didn't love it in high school.
I taught myself most of this class, she can be generous with partial credit but also nitpicks a lot. She cold calls and often makes students feel bad if they don't know the answer. If you don't take her too seriously and you show up to class you are fine. She also gives numerous opportunities to boost your grade so just do every extra quiz/project.
Honestly one of the worst professors I have had so far, make sure you do well on all the online homework and group project as that is the only way to say your grade. Final is worth 40% and half of it is topics she either barely discussed or just brushed right through.
