So understanding and actually cares about his students.
Really nice guy. Very willing to help students. Cares & wants you to do well.
Good prof. and the only one who teaches 27.200. Helpful.
he really wants to help you improve your writing skills he helped me after all
he learned me how to rite and spel good...... now I know grammer and spellin
Nice guy. Always willing to help. Lots of work... DO IT EARLY! Trust me
nice guy, really cares
Very understanding! If you get help outside class, he won't stop talking to you!
Great teacher and a really nice guy. Class not as dry if taken in summer!
Great prof who is more than willing to help with any assignment outside of class
Really helpful, and really lenient with assignments. Swell felllow
Good prof, but assignment after assignment

Excellent prof! one of the best i've had before. Tons of work at the beginning of the year, and one big project, but the marking isn't that hard so its good. Great class, Great prof!
Somewhat disorganized. I don't agree with the grammar he was teaching - not applicable in todays business world. OK course. OK prof.
great prof. very understanding and takes time for students. totally reccommend. the course (intro to communications) is a lot of little busy work assignments, nothing drastically hard.
I didn't like the class, but excellent prof. He goes out of his way to help his students.
can be a hard marker if he has horrible t/a's lots of work, just keep up and you'll be fine
pretty good prof. He's a little confused at times though...and his TA's a CRAZY marker.
He's an awesome and helpful professor. Very easy going guy...gives extentions on stuff very easily :)
Difficult to understand, does not understand the questions you ask him, not very helpful or friendly, far too strict, difficult to deal with.
He teaches a course on communicating but he is a horrible communicator. If you ask him a question he never understands what you are actually asking. He doesn't follow his outline and is always changing due dates so you never know what's going on.
Marks VERY hard. Not a very good communicator; even his outline is hard to understand. Very set in his ways (difficult to argue with). Never has control of his class. Heavy workload with due dates always changing. However, overvall the class is easy.
Mittoo is a horrible communicator, he is not helpful at all, does not understand questions, and is an extremely hard marker. The course has a heavy workload, but the assignments are easy. Should be an easy A but the class was anything but.
communications class. terrible prof. tried too hard to sound intelligent by using big words. went off into tangents. picked class favorites. assignments were useless.
This guy has problems. All he knows is grammer. If you are extremely!!!! good in grammer then you will ove this coarse. And has too much course load.
nice guy, bad communicator.
Horrible prof. He marks extremely hard (he thinks we all should be English majors)and his directions are not very clear. Heavy workload. Makes an easy course hard.
The last two comments sum him up good. Hardest marker I've seen in my whole life. Makes an "interesting" class hard and tedious with all the assignments. Not to mention, class is EXTREMELY boring.. hes a very bad communicator.
VERY boring class, lot of work, but most pretty easy to bullsh*t through.great speaker, sometimes fun class. recommended
I guess you could do good in this course if that was the only one you were taking for the semester... the course load is a bit crazy. And so is the prof! Thinks too much of himself!
He can't communicate or speak English properly. Most confusing class ever.He doesn't use proper grammar either(get him to email you and see how many mistakes you find). If someone is grading me on grammar they should do it properly too.
He is religious about grammer but I have found his lectures to be intersting.
He marks nothing beyond grammar in assignments, despite the fact that grammar is supposedly only 2 out of 10 marks. He's a nice enough guy and knows his stuff, but the class is a waste of time. He should migrate to the English faculty
A lot of assignments and a lot of printing, jsut for five marks! Waste time or not?... Mittoo is a guy probably is hated at current time but will be loved and remembered at future time, isn't it?
you do a lot of work for only small portions of your grade. And most of the work is pointless
This class is sooo boring and this prof doesn't make it much better. You have tons of pointless assignments and he doens't mark on anythign but grammer. What a waste of time
Alot of little assignments worth few marks. He is nice and helpful outside of class but his lectures are boring as hell. If you have to take communications with him bring a PSP or Gameboy, LOL
lots of assignment, easy class but I won't recommand take in summer. He gave the average score is C+.
he's hardcore on grammar, but misses half the mistakes, and makes corrections that are incorrect... take it from someone who knows her grammar (and "and" is not a linking verb; "is" is a better example!)
Great prof. Very knowledgeable. This course is tonnnnns of work(assignments due every class!) so I suggest taking it on an easy semester. If you are willing to dedicate the time to it then it's not hard to get an A!
Mittoo really wants his students to do well. He works very hard, but his lectures are very boring becuase they are all about grammer. This class also has a lot of little assignments, so you have to keep up on it. Overall he is a good guy, teaching boring stuff
This class is tons of work, and has lots of arbitrary stuff. Kinda hard to get higher than 79.
A lot of work, but most people end up with a B. Tough to get better. Pick your group wisely. Overall not so bad. Just make sure you have the time.
Nice Prof, but gives out tons of work be prepared to have an assigment every class. Too many assignments with too little value attached to each
This professor is a gentle guy. Although there are many assignment, the level of difficult of this course is quite low. If you are interested in gramma, this is a good course to take. Also, the professor concerns about the students, he allows late assignments. Generally, it is a easy courese and there are some fun in it.
Boring lectures and lots of assignemtns. Marks way to hard on grammer, thus low marks on assignments even if content was A. Seems like a nice guy though.
OMG! How can a guy like him could ever possible become a prof!! He is so.....beyond words! Tell your guys a simple, but true fact! If you are not taking class with him,, or if you has done his classes,or even if you just derferred your exam for his class, he WON'T answer your questions regarding to this course anymore! He is teaching for MONEY
should be an english teacher
Whoever leaves a comment in this section is a bit moronic...his name is Rakesh Mitto, not Mitto Rakesh. Haha...silly people
Very nice person. This class is very helpful. My writing and grammar improved greatly. He gives a lot of assignments, but they are not worth very much. His markers mark very hard, but he isn't too bad.
Far too much work weighted at very little. Has no concept of students out of class time. Class lectures provide little insight to everyday use of the English language. Nice guy, means well, but needs to look at his course structure and grading scheme. Mandatory evening where you have to pay $25 and present, not impressed.
Really nice guy, expect a B+ in this course. Worst professor Ive had at UofM. Havent learned anything, far too much homework, expects $30 for a dinner and 10hrs that day to reherse and make a presentation. Take this with a light course load. Very unorganized.
he is a nice prof. but the class load is intensive
Very interested in improving student's communication skills - oral and written. If you show an interest in learning, he is more than willing to help. Dedicated inumerable hours outside of class to ensure students who needed the help, got it. I have used the skills learned in this class in every aspect of my career. Really a nice guy.
Focuses a lot on grammar. Be prepared to sit through hours of grammar lessons. Other than that, you really do improve your writing and speaking after completing the multitude of assignments. Did the work and received an A. I recommend him to others.
Very disorganized, no sense of course direction.
Prof Mittoo genuinely wants students to do well, but his concepts and ideas are very vague and philosophical. He tends to ramble and takes way too much time for basic topics. Great guy outside of class, but be prepared to fall asleep in his lectures.
Very friendly professor. He is always willing to help students outside of class.
lots of Assginments,but worth little
Course is terribly designed. Would be more useful if he taught more useful applications of writing techniques in the business world instead of 4 months worth of grammar lessons. My writing has improved as a result but I don't think I've learned much about business communication through this course at all. Terribly unorganized. No strict due dates.
Rambles on and on about nothing useful. Completely disorganized, and teaches you nothing about business communication, except for one short lesson on memo's. Very unprofessional, with no due dates. He attempts to teach grammar but he's not even very good at teaching that. Vague and boring. Completely unfair grading system and no help out of class.
Very simple class. Lectures and course material unclear and do not provide a guide as to where the course is going.
Text was not necessary.
The professor is a decent enough guy. The course however is very boring and, in my opinion, very useless. Four months of grammar lessons that result in you writing worse than you did before. Requires strict formats on how to write, but then does not provide adequate templates for those formats.
Its hard to be mean to the guy since he really enjoys teaching the material, but the material is awful, and the due dates are not enforced. Expect at least an extra week to do all assignments (syllabus useless). Gala presentation evening long and boring. Textbook (blue) used minimally.
Horrible prof and horrible course. It had nothing to do with business communications at all and just was grammar lessons. So much out of class mandatory stuff, including a dinner you have to pay for. He picks on some people and is not fair at all. Seems like a nice enough guy, but not a good prof whatsoever.
His assignments are repetitive and never stop coming at you. You have three or four assignments going at all times, directions aren't too clear, and classes are very boring.
Easy class, a lot of work, some of grammar covered is useful to correct common errors in writing that you would otherwise not have caught. Nice guy and has no issues giving out extension for papers.
So boooooring. Some students fell asleep a few times. He gives assignments to write a response to something, but he doesn't give his feedback. Instead other students give you a feedback on your writing. What's a point? He is hard to follow in class, grammar review is useless. It's just a lot of useless cr...p in this course. Grading system is vague
ALOT of assignments worth so little. Class is a grammar lesson, irrelevant. Makes an easy course hard (tough marking). Generally: outdated prof, outdated course.
don't buy the textbook. not used at all.
Very disorganized, his teaching is all over the place. Too many handouts, too many assignments, too much work for a GMGT course. Very friendly man. Get on the ORGANIZING COMMITTEE if you can and if event planning skills come easily to you. (You'll get a better mark than the people doing presentations.)
Only teaching about grammar, too many assignments and handouts. The presentation night is boring. Can't skip him b/c he is the only prof for the core course.
For a course on communication and presenation skills it is very hard to understand his lectures and they are all about grammar. Lots of small assingments all term.
Really nice guy. This class is entirely based on grammar. Lots of small assignments and papers. Get on organizing committee if possible. DO NOT buy textbook... Overall nice guy and fairly easy class.
This class is a writing class. Dont put a lot of time into the responses they are only 5%. Very easy as long as you do all the assignments. Everyone gets a B. Final/Midterm are jokes. Dont buy the book. The gala is boring.
Very friendly prof always ready to help. Lots and lots of assignments but marks fairly. Gala evening is tedious but required. Don't buy the textbook! Go to class for attendance and hand in assignments and you will get a B.
Horrible prof. You do not need the text book at all for this course. The exam has nothing to do with what was taught in class. Goes off topic constantly in class. Not organized at all. Avoid this prof!
Boring class, havey duty accent and Gala my ass...do not take this course if u do not have to..
I fell asleep in almost every class. He's boring and the class content has nothing really to do with anything. Just a dumb mandatory grammar course. Don't buy the textbook (unless you're buying mine ;))and don't put much effort on the reading responses worth 5%
Complete waste of time. You gain nothing from this class. Mittoo is an outdated prof teaching outdated lessons. Dont buy the book
worst prof you could ever have.. nice person tho.. but still awful prof! all he talks about is being clear and specific but everything in his course is vague and ambiguous.. too much homework and assignments that are worth almost nothing compared to the time it takes to finish them... if possible, take the course with another prof
All the comments are accurate. Just a grammar lesson every class. I cannot stress how boring his lectures are. Don't buy the text he does not use it. Nice guy but extremely disorganized. No set due dates, extensions are fine. Gala evening sucks but is mandatory. Get on the organizing committee. Everyone gets a B.
Awful teacher. Class is completely useless. Mittoo does not know how to teach. Lectures are boring and are all over the place. Expect 3-4 unnecessary handouts per lecture.
Rakesh, while being a nice guy, teaches a useless class. It doesnt really matter what your opinion of him is because all asper students ned to take this class anyway. Answer his questions so he learns who you are and you will do fine. Dont buy the text books
Boring class, no doubt. Work load is heavy, alot of papers to write, etc. He will keep you busy no doubt. Very passionate about his work, helpful anytime to students, even schedules other grammar lessons for students at times. Also, listen to everyone else, DO NOT buy the textbook.
Bad course, nice guy, do not buy the textbook.
The reviews on this site are fairly accurate. Except there is no longer an organization committee and no fancy dinner for the 'Gala Dinner.' Be prepared to waste a Friday night listening to 5 and a half hours of presentations including a guest speaker. Honestly.. I feel like I've learned absolutely nothing from this course.. oh well.
Prof. Mittoo is a nice guy. Don't buy the textbook and just try to keep improving on each assignment. I got a B+ and wrote the papers just hours before they were do. Seriously...text book NOT necessary. Boring classes.
Good prof with a tough crowd - it's a required course and many students do not want to be there. Found his paper feedback very detailed and helpful. Friendly and easy to talk to.
Mittoo is a really good guy and a good prof. He can be a little vague sometimes but is more than happy to clarify if you approach him. Listen to everyone else and don't by the textbook, though the grammar book may be useful. I finished this course with an A.
Even though he is a very friendly and nice prof his classes tend to be more boring. It is not required to attend class but bonus grading can be received if you continuously do so. DO NOT buy the textbook, it will not be needed. Do not stress about writing assignments for no matter how good or bad you write you will end up with a B.
Overall a pretty good prof. He really emphasizes what you should know. The class however is the most boring class I have taken in my degree. It seems like a lot of stuff you should learn in high school. He's a fair marker. Final exam is an article which he gives you ahead of time. Class attendance is mandatory. But I didnt really learn anything.
he is very helpful outside of class accepts late assignments so long as you're not mean about it and he actually tries to help you get a good grade you'll get a B if you try or if you don't but don't take advantage of his kindness he truly is a warm soul don't text during his lectures although you may be tempted
A nice professor, inside and outside the classroom. Tough marker, expecting a lot from you even if the material is new. Flexible for due dates. When he lectures it's like he is telling a bed time story, so you need to hold yourself not to fall a sleep. Average professor overall, knows what he is doing. Won't recommend if another option available.
He is the kind of prof where your opionion or ideas do not matter; you need to say exactly what he is thinking. He has no grading scale for papers. I asked to see one and he said "University classes do not use grading scales." In lectures, he says the same thing over and over again. He is also very unorganized. He changes his due dates often.;
It's a necessary course, with no other profs; unavoidable. DO NOT buy the textbook, buy the nader book (buy it used). Lectures are boring, asks beyond stupid questions and expects educated answers. Overall he's not horrible, just another course get through. Can expect at least a B as long as you hand everything in.
Professor Mittoo is a nice guy overall. If you ask him for help after class - or you need clarification - he will easily help you. The papers are not long, but there's quite a number of them. Nearly impossible to above an 80, so getting a 75 is quite satisfying. DO NOT buy the textbook, and focus heavily on your grammar.
Course was very boring and not at all straight forward. Business commumications could have been an intetesting topic, but he focuses primarily on grammar and makes lectures super confusing. If you try hard you'll get a B-B+, if you dont try hard.... B-B+, I learned the hard way.
I think he's a great prof. Always trying to spend extra time to explain where your writingassignments can improve and flexible to help achieve that goal. It is hard when there are students in the class who don't care and are just trying to "get by" in life.-- and I found it is the disinterested students who pull down the energy of the class.
Nice guy, probably a good prof, but useless class.
Great prof, really helpful. Easy to get extensions on due papers and really friendly individual. Do the work and you will get a good grade.
The second worst prof I've had at Asper. Ambiguous assignments, random grades assigned, lack of structure. The class is completely useless. When you ask him for help, he makes you feel stupid, and tells you " use the logic". Also, be sure to have a motivated group for the project. It's very tedious, and he will rip your paper apart for grammar.
Don't take this class on your first year at school. This is a challenging class but you can A with a bit more experience at school.
Has passion for teaching, very approachable outside of class. Easily one of the best profs at Asper.
Good guy, boring class, lots of assignments, B guaranteed.
Although the content of this course is dull, Mittoo was very passionate and it was clear that he wanted to see his students succeed.
Not a good prof, his lectures are hard to follow and you'll get a B-B+ no matter the amount of effort you put in. Try and avoid business communications with him!
Prof Mittoo does not give A's or C+'s; if you show up to class on occasion and put in minimal effort you'll get a B, and if you work your butt off you can get a B+, but any grades outside of that range he doesn't give. Other than that, it's a boring, straightforward Asper requirement that everybody has to get through, so it's nothing special.
Easy class, you'll get a B/B+ no matter the effort you put in. Show up to every class on time to get 5/5 for participation. The class is boring, content on final you'll learn in the last 2/3 weeks of class. He tells you exactly what will be on the final. Overall, Rakesh is a good guy that teaches a boring class.
Snoozefest of a class but such a nice prof! He wants to see people succeed and grow in their writing skills! No matter what you do you will get a B. Rambles on about ideas and language use quite a bit which makes following the lecture difficult. SO MANY HANDOUTS! The content folder is very unorganized and just has a bunch of nonsense in it.
Very energetic, obviously cares about helping students learn proper business writing skills. The material is very boring but he does his best to keep the class engaged and is open to changing his methods.
Passionate prof for a very monotonous course. Really cares about students & strives to see improvement in your writing. Lots of feedback is given & he is very accessible and accommodating. He's meticulous, yet there are no rubrics. Ridiculously large groups assigned for projects (7-9 ppl). Overall very easy course to get a B in. Harder to get an A.
Doesn't give good grades at all. Lack of structure in lectures. Goes to the far east to tell you something in the west. Will never take any of his courses if (God forbid) offered in Asper. This course should be taken in the last semester of your degree.
Way too many handouts, very vague assignments, forced "Diversity?" in group projects, and will embarrass you if he doesn't like your answer if he asks you a question.
Mr. Mittoo is a great guy. Very passionate about the course and always ready to give you good feedback on assignments. The course materials are at times boring. Hes very flexible with due dates as well. Overall nice prof!
This course is called business communications and yet the only communication between Rakesh's lectures and his students are zzZZzZZZzzzzZ.... boring.
If you attend most classes (Rakesh takes attendance) and complete your work, this class is a guaranteed B-B+. A is obtainable if you put more effort and show engagement in class. Grammar exercises are helpful and relevant, especially for ESL students. Exam is a breeze if you review notes and pay attention to class examples. Textbook is NOT needed!
Imagine the world's most boring man describing the world's most boring subject, boringly, and you have an idea of what his course is like. The attendance is mandatory (he takes attendance) only because no one would show up otherwise. Bring work from other courses to do in class, write decent papers, and walk away with an easy B / A.
such a boring 8:30 am lecture, he has a small voice, so small then if I am sitting on the right side of the class and he turns left, it is impossible to hear him. He does not organize his content folder on umlearn, it is hard to sort out useful information, does not post grade online. Overall i dont like his style or the subject at all.
Rakesh is a real gem of a prof; the class is an easy B+ if you just show up and do below average work. An A+ is not obtainable in this class; he might give out 1 for every 100 students. Attendance is mandatory for marks, although not necessarily the most interesting lectures. Very flexible with paper due dates, and very easy to approach.
Attendance is graded, only reason students have to show up. Really useless class. He doesn't explain things well. Very kind though.
Very dry professor teaching a very dry course. Can't blame him for trying, but his class was not exciting or engaging at all. Is a fair marker though, and a nice guy to individual students. The course was quite easy and everyone in the class seems to get the exact same mark.
Rakesh is a great guy and a very passionate prof. The course material as a whole is somewhat dry, but he does his best to engage students. The assignments are all marked fair and he provides good feedback on all essays. Course: summary paper, an interview +write up, a response to reading paper, a group research report + paper, oral pres, final exam
The course itself is a bit meh, but you can't blame Rakesh for that. He is a great guy and tries really hard to engage and be accessible for his students. His markers are the ones who grade your papers so some of the marking can be inconsistent, but he marks the exam himself so that ends up balancing out since he marks very fairly.
Every single class is pointless. He talks about nothing. However, you still have to go because he takes attendance for marks. For the exam, you don't need to pay attention until the last 2 classes. Don't worry about taking notes unless it will assist with assignments. Basically a writing course that doesn't count for a writing credit in Asper.
Rakesh is one of the most boring & egotistical professors you will ever come across. His voice will put you to sleep. His ego is huge. He thinks he is the best at what he does when he is not. He will always criticize you & your assignments, whatever you say or do will never be good enough. His graders are also trash, they don't grade fairly at all.
Honestly, this course is awful... but Rakesh is super nice and willing to help if you make a point of seeing him. The material is very dry so I would advise to take in the summer as you get it done in 3 weeks. Participation really matters, so show up to class and try to engage yourself otherwise you can easily fall asleep.
Lectures are literally worthless but you have to go because of participation marks. I might be wrong but I think he's the only prof who teaches GMGT 2010 so you can't avoid him. he is incredibly disorganized and speaks very quietly at times making him hard to understand. He does mean well but I would never take another class with him.
Rakesh gives pointless advice on your papers. It felt like he was searching for any way to lower my grade. When that failed he simply gave low marks. For example, according to a rubric he made and filled out I got 90% on a paper. However, he marked it as 72%. The lectures are also hard to hear and honestly pointless until he talks about the final.
Extremely boring and useless class. Didn't need to pay attention until the last couple classes when he talked about the exam. Very hard and inconsistent markers.
One of the most boring and worst prof at UofM and Asper! Highly recommend not taking his course.
This class is very discouraging. On all of our writing assignments, almost the entire class is given a grade between 70 and 80, with no one getting over an 84. This class can singlehandedly make you lose all confidence in your writing ability, regardless of your previous successes. Very sad that this class is mandatory for all business students.
Sad to see a communications prof who is so poor at communicating. Assignment instruction are excessively long. Half your work will be figuring out what you have to do. Most of the class gets between 70 & 80 on the assignments, which is very frustrating. Only positive I have is that he is decently nice and lets you call him outside of class anytime
I personally responded really well to Rakesh. He answered my emails quickly and would answer phone calls when my group needed help for our project. He also did a good job of keeping class moderately interesting, considering this is a boring course and it was online. His exam was also really easy.
Worst professor at the University of Manitoba I have had so far. He is one of the strictest prof in terms of grading. He literally is not good with lectures and engaging the class. Anyone could score an A in this class if the right prof is given to instruct this course for students. I don't even know how I ended up with a B "AFTER ALL THE WORK."
Worst professor at the University of Manitoba I have had so far. He is one of the strictest prof in terms of grading. He literally is not good with lectures and engaging the class. Anyone could score an A in this class if the right prof is given to instruct this course for students. I clearly deserve at least a B+ but somehow I ended up with a B.
Worst prof I've had so far. Very ambiguous grading rubrics and project outlines. This professor is really disorganized and unprofessional, he will give you a B no matter what. I wanted to test his grading, so I put a lot of effort into one paper and about 30 minutes into the next one. On my good paper, he gave me 66%, but on my terrible one, 82%.
Class is a joke. This prof does not give any As. You'll get a B+ at best. Put a ton of effort into the first and second paper an scored a B on them. Decided to wing the last one and somehow got an A on it... Grading criteria and Instructions on the papers is like trying to read a different language. Overall, the less effort you put in the better.
Grading scale was extremely inconsistent and harsh. Rubrics are incredibly long, disorganized, and hard to understand. Doesn't seem like you'd be able to get higher than a B+ no matter what you did. Would not recommend.
This class is useless, unfortunately it is a mandatory course but you will not learn anything. You will not learn anything you dont already know, he teaches basic grammar, grammar is also worth more than 20% of your overall grade so keep that in mind. Overall he is not a good business teacher, should stick to English.
How is this guy a university professor, he puts his student in the worst possible circumstances to succeed in his class. The most pointless class I have ever taken with grading criteria that doesn't even make sense. This prof needs to go and this class needs to be updated from the 80s
Awful. Unfortunately he is the only professor that teaches this class. No matter what you do in this class you will get a B or B+. Pretty sure he closes his eyes and just assigns random marks to everyone (anywhere between 65-79) He has about 10 different slides/sheets for the assignments and each has different instructions. TERRIBLE
What makes me the most upset is that he'd rather focus on criticizing international students for accent and annunciation than critiquing the content, body language, and the way people present. I don't understand how this is acceptable to fit in an equal, diverse, and inclusive teaching environment today.
Oh boy I have a LOT to say. Rakesh is a poor communicator despite teaching business communications and seems unorganized. Assignment directions are inconsistent and the guidelines are scattered throughout UM Learn, and he is unclear with deadlines, instructions, and advice. Very very very frustrating class.
Avoid taking a class with him. The instructions for assignments are often 10+ pages and will have you left with no idea what to do. Gives no rubric but will also not tell you any reasons why you got a mediocre grade. Prepare to have your writing critized and critiqued to no end. An egotistical communications prof who don't know how to communicate
Rude, classes are boring, soo many papers, either don't take it with him or take it in the summer.
Made me hate communications. The four assignments all have 10+ pages for their instructions and always have multiple documents usually with conflicting information (one says 500 words, another 600 ex). Extremely dull lectures with no real relevant applications if you already know how to speak english. This guy needs to update this course from 1960.
Lectures can be a little dry sometimes, but he tells you exactly what he wants on the final and how to format everything. He also marks papers really hard but he gives clear feedback on why marks were lost. Overall he wants people to do well and is easy to reach out to and the class is easy as long as you take notes and listen to lectures.
The course is called business communications but his own email replies consist of two to three words. Boring backdated lectures and he is more concerned about questioning people's accents openly (even though he himself has a partial non-native accent) rather than focusing on coursework. Grading for assignments feels like blindfolded dart boarding.
I found his lectures very slow. Whatever you do, give your best or just do the assignments a day before the deadline, you'll end up getting the same grade. He mostly grades everyone B or B+ Goodluck
Save yourself and do not take gmgt 2010 with him. his instructions for assignments are so unclear and he does not give a grade above a 75. lectures are incredibly boring they are so hard to sit through. prof contradicts himself all the time and does not know how to communicate. group project too much work for what its worth.
literally so unorganized, he has so many folders its hard to find anything you are looking for. was late for our group rehearsal and gave us pointless feedback. would not take him ever again
his notes are okay, but the slides makes no sense. they are all over the place in umlearn! he's a nice person but i think his teaching puts me to sleep and that fact that participation matters doesn't help cuz i sometimes didn't join class and it costs me a lot of marks! its easy class if you know what to write and keep his rubric in mind.
Class is easy to get a B in, but dont expect to get any higher. Very few people will get a B+ or above. Individual papers are annoying but easily doable in a short period of time. My downfall was the group aspects as I had a group who did nothing and were awful at communicating. Luckily I did well on my papers and everyone gets B, so I was fine.
Like others said, super critical and you'll most likely end up getting a B in this course no matter how hard you try. The work isn't bad, some writing assignments, group project and exam only a few students will score higher than a B.
Very unorganized, grading criteria and feedback is unclear.
The worst professor in my university life
I would often skip class because his lectures were so boring and felt like a complete waste of time... Although attendance and participation was marked, I chose sleep over getting those marks. He was so messy with where he put things on UM learn and people asked in every class where it was. Such a tough grader too and really vague feedback
Common sense material, impossible to do well. Assignment outlines horribly long, criteria contradictory. Graders do not grade fairly. No mistakes on one paper, barely got a B. Little effort into another paper, A+. Though I had fine interactions with Mittoo outside of class, I've heard horror stories. Fight for your life in the group assignment.
He doesn't teach anything useful in class, don't bother attending if you don't mind losing attendance marks. You can just read from his slides. Wants students to contribute in class but super passive aggressive about their answers, this is why no one contributes in class. He was poor in communicating, and never gives high grades on his papers.
It is very unfortunate that he is the only one that teaches this course. Strange grading style. Lectures and notes are extremely unorganized. Guidelines for any assignment are some of the most confusing and unclear guidelines I've ever seen. So much for a "communications" class. Absolutely horrible experience. He also picks on students. Horrific!!
By far the worst professor I've had. 10 page long outlines, useless lectures, and inconsistent grading style. 0% or 200% effort will get you B+, even though the course itself is easy. Asking for feedback is useless; Rakesh is really egotistical and puts you down if you disagree with anything. All this while he teaches "communications."
The professor is nice person, but is not very organized when assigning course work and lecturing. The professor would not even remember where they left off last class, and the instructions for the assignments are very vague and split into multiple documents for some reason. The professor seems nice, but I would not recommend this professor.
Professor Rakesh Mittoo is a nice guy but I found his course content to be a bit disorganized on UM learn and it's very difficult to get over 80% on any of the assignments. It takes him a few days to reply to emails but if you call him he'll usually pick up right away.
The class sucks! The lectures very dry and boring. His course content is all over the place on Um learn. Assignment instructions are extremely long and confusing. He is a tough grader and really doesn't know how to teach. His entire course is messed up and the irony is he teaching communication.
Professor Mittoo does generally care about his students and want them to succeed but he teaches extremely boring material that makes it hard to focus in class. There was a group research paper and presentation where the groups were assigned based off alphabetical order. His slides are really disorganized which makes it hard to find information.
very very dry material yet rakesh does his best to engage students and teach them as best as possible but can be boring. easy grader and communicates well despite slight accent.
literally the most boring and useless class ive ever taken. you could write absolute garbage or the greatest essay ever and you will get a B or B+ no matter what. instructions for every single assignment are in like four separate documents which makes it super confusing. it is required for all asper students and it is not very much work.
This course should be title as Business MISCommunication tbh. It's a harsh truth. I've never been this confused in his class in my entire degree
On the first day of Class P.Mintto described his course on the level of an ivy league level course, and spoke to the immense value students gain from his course. Unfortunately, this wont prove to be true. Most classes he rambles on and speaks in tangents. Available materials on UM learn are hard to follow and most likely in multiple documents.
A nice guy but the way he teaches.. The material is so dry and unorganized. I only went to lectures just for attendance. Everything is pretty straightforward to review on your own but the assignments are... The best people get is a B or B+ no matter how good you are at writing. Unfortunately, he's the only prof who teaches this course so good luck.
The lectures are just him over-explaining basic guidelines for the assignments, would not attend if you are okay with losing 3%. The feedback on the assignments was a joke as he has a rubric that is not used and there was nothing constructive about the feedback received. Marks were deducted so that most of the class was in the B and B+ range.
Other reviews are accurate. Don't expect to get a grade higher than B or B+. Assignments had nothing to do with discussions. Received 70ish% on all the assignments with very unhelpful, minimal feedback. You have to take the class with him so all I can say is don't stress it, you'll get a B either way.
Lectures were very boring. I paid 0 attention in class and put minimal effort on assignments. People around me put more effort in, but we all got 70's on assignments. If you want to work extremely hard for a B+ you can, but I'd recommend using the class time to work on any other class work and coast to an easy B. Don't expect to get above a B+
very awful boring and useless lecture. but u have to attend because attendance is mandatory so nothing to do. whats with the fake accent i dont know trying a lot for that fake accent. u cannot take any other prof for this course as it is mandatory and only one he takes this course which is worse. very useless guideline for assignments no time.
You get a B/B+ in his class no matter your work product. The entire class is a joke, and he's the only one who teaches it. Best advice just get the class over with and take your B.
The lectures are painfully boring, so much so that I end up doing work for other classes instead. The assignment files are a mess and take forever to find. What we learn in class has nothing to do with the assignments. I'd recommend doing it in the summer and getting it over with in 5 weeks than stretching it out for 4 months.
He is a very great person and caring. But his lectures are extremely boring. And i feel like not worth it. His assignmnents he marks them very difficultly its really we dont know what he wants. So be aware. Only presentation gave me decent marks. But if u have any problem u can call or ask him but still my marks were not increased.
The lectures can be dull, but attending is a must. Assignments have unclear guidelines spread across multiple files. Grades tend to cap at B/B+ regardless of effort. unstuckstudy proved helpful for preparing study materials.
Believe me when I say that every review you read on Rakesh is accurate. This guys lectures are some of the most boring, hard to follow lectures i've ever attended. And yes, I attended because he takes attendance. His grading is INCREDIBLY vague, he gives very little directions for assignments and his feedback is even worse. One of the worst profs!
Probably THE WORST Business class I've taken, unclear instruccions for papers; even when you call him for suggestions keeps requesting information that was not added or mentioned before. Says he has a rubric for grades and you dont even know what he's evaluating. Do not take the course if you dont have to!!!!!
hard grader. nothing he says in class is about the course material. i heard best you can get in the class is a B.
terrible worst class Ive ever taken
The prof is very unclear with his lectures. Instructions are very messy and inconsistent. I have final exam tomorrow and I still don't know what I have learned from the course. The course materials are not that difficult but the prof makes it sounds very difficult and be ready to get very low scores on assignments no matter how good you write.
The most important part of this class is getting the professor to know your name. Talk once a class (even if you don't know what you're talking about) and you will do well. Do your assignments exactly how he tells you in lectures and his slide decks and you will do well. If you pay attention to the lectures, class will go by quickly.
Simply put professor Mittoo is a terrible instructor. He has an overinflated perception of himself that makes this class unbearable. On top of that, however, Mittoo's class doesn't align with this ego. Course files are messy and spread across several documents, he provides unclear rubrics for grading and marks very subjectively.
One of the WORST classes in Asper. Boring lectures with mandatory attendance and terrible feedback on assignments. Basically he just says it's wrong because he says it's wrong. Always asked students to participate but no one ever did because he would just say they're wrong lol.
He is a terrible prof but a nice guy. His lectures are useless and hard to follow. His course plan is all of the place and he constantly changes due dates, sometimes after the paper is due. Assignments aren't overly hard but he is a tough grader and gives generic feedback. Group project is easy and final is fair. Good luck getting over a B+ though.
Boring class, took this as an elective because I thought it would be easy and maybe it is but I'd rather have to take Calc 2 again then ever step foot in this class again.
DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Amazingly, the faculty has not rid itself of this guy. He is the worst professor I've had in my degree. He has unclear assignments (ironic since he is teaching Bus Comm) and his lectures drone on about nothing and everything simultaneously. What he looks for in assignments is highly particular, but it changes from day to day. I'll take my A and run
I am almost done with the course here. The lectures are really boring and it has nothing to do with exams or anything. His slides can be read in 10 minutes but instead he stays off topic for most of the time.his grading is very unfair and I promise he has never explained why he decreases your marks. Most unfair grading system in asper for sure.
not organized, there is a million different slides, was always confused what document he was on, no one knows whats going on, and it was just a rough course to take in general
Does not keep his word. Nice guy but I was promised an arrangement for an accommodation I have spoken to him about weeks before and the day before our meeting he changed his mind about the time, place, and location and did not respect my time and situation.
He's the only prof here, so it's a canon event. I hated myself every minute I sat in that class. Attendance is mandatory, you gotta sit for 75 minutes straight listening to him talk about Trump, and drifting away to stories no one cares about. Nice guy, but gives no feedback, and you just get a bad grade on the 3 assignments. Worst prof in Asper.
He is actually a nice guy but his class is horrible. You get so many papers on which if you do really well you will barely get a B. He gives no feedback or explanation for his grading and the material is confusing. He is the only one teaching this class. If you need to take it make sure to participate, do not take as GPA booster.
Good luck getting anything more than a B+. Grading is extremely unclear and unnecessarily picky in random areas. Lectures are a lot of rambling that has nothing to do with the content and are hard to follow. The content information and assignment guidelines are also extremely unorganized and difficult to find all in one place.
Does not response to emails at all, at oeast if you are a female student
Unclear instructions for assignments, then marks the assignments like he discussed something that was not on there. Confusing lectures, disorganized information, feedback of assignments makes zero sense [adds unrelated aspects] Keeps using Donald Trump as an example in class, mind you class shouldnt be about politics.
His slideshave some insights, but anything he says doesn't really add value. His assignments are not complicated, but most end up getting between 65-70, getting really vague feedback. I complained about my grade once, as the TA, I assume, had spelling mistakes in the corrections and comments, but he just deviated the question. Worst Prof in Asper.
Rakesh is not a great professor. He is unfortunately tenured and teaches every section of GMGT 2010. He WILL accuse you of using ChatGPT even if you didn't, he will grade you horribly and unfairly, and he will ramble on about nothing in class. The textbook is required, but you do not even touch on it. There is no escaping this class at Asper.
Not good for useful feedback. Attendance is mandatory but completely useless as he rambles on about nothing and his content can be summed up in an email. Should not be teaching the way he does, probably the worst prof I have had.
