Ralf is an awesome person. Full of energy, and amazingly available to help. Lectures were scatterbrained at times, and you have to put in a lot of work. But it's stats, and it's just hard in general. Very approachable, had office hours over the weekend of finals. Can be picky on grading. Overall, I'd recommend him! Also, was 1st term at PCC.
I took Ralph during his first term at pcc, and he was great. He really wants his students to do well and he is very flexible with his office hours! he would come to the tutor center and help as well. Can be picky with grading but is clear about what he wants! It's a hard class but he acknowledges that. you can tell he loves his job and he's funny!
I had Ralf for 243 in his first term at PCC, very friendly, knows his stuff. He is helpful in and out of class. He cares about his students success. Makes a challenging course fun and interesting. Have recommended him to many others, I took Ralf for 244 as well two terms later and he had improved his style even more!!! Take Stats from Ralf!!!!
Took both 243 and 244 from Ralf, he is awesome! The go to guy for all things math! Always willing to help and very flexible with his time!
Youtz is hilarious and really knows his statistics. Sometimes he can be a little confusing, but if you ask questions either one-on-one or in-class he's sure to help you understand better. Homework is long and time-consuming. There are about 3 tests, two midterms and a final, and quizzes throughout the term.
Really awesome teacher.. Just a really hard class
It was a mistake that I took his class. He's not good at teaching in class. Always left out a lot of information. Tons of homework. Not gonna recommend him to others. Bad at teaching!!
He is a very quirky but funny guy. He goes step by step through everything you will need to know but you do have to pay attention and not skip class, that will not be beneficial for you as the student. Make sure to study before the tests and write down as much as you can on the note sheet that you are allowed to use during the test!
Ralph is the funniest, most energetic, helpful math teacher I have ever had. His tests are easy and he makes them very clear, no confusing wording. He is always willing to help and will clarify anything at anytime. The textbook is necessary for homework which counts for 15% of your grade but otherwise I never read from it.
Ralf is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very clear in his lectures and always makes them engaging and humorous. We skipped class for a few minutes because he wanted to go see llamas, of course he asked us if we wanted to first. He's super clear and I wish I could take all my math classes from him.
Ralf is a great teacher to talk to and will always be open to help you to succeed the class. Expect to have 4-5 hours set aside to do the textbook hw. ***He gives a lot of hw questions, just a warning***
I took Stats with another teacher and it was nowhere near as good as taking it with Ralf. He is very realistic when it comes to learning and gives many opportunities for points in his class. His lectures were actually helpful and essential to learning. There is a ton on homework in his class though.
He uses a free online textbook, which is really nice, you have to pay to use web assign for homework, though. He's very nice and funny and can usually explain things well enough to understand, even without me using the textbook very often. He definitely cares about students doing well in his class. I would take another class with him.
Ralph is a good guy. He has offered a course with no expensive text book or calculator necessary. He allows us to use freeware on tests and gives out study guides. In general he is a good teacher when he's tired and a great teacher when he gets his rest. He really does give a lot to his students. I respect him and have been having a good term.
I had Ralf for 2 semesters, back-to-back, and all I can say is he's a prime role model of how I feel a teacher should teach. He's knowledgeable, funny, energetic, has a kind-heart, and most importantly interested in what his students have to say. Never feel shy to ask him a question because you can tell he welcomes it with open arms!
I love Ralf, aside from being a good math teacher hes a really good guy. He gives you a chance and is more than fair, I took his summer class which I didnt do too well in but thats because of my own problems with statistics and lack of tutoring resources available. Take him you wont regret it, wonderful professor who truly cares.
Ralf is nice and has a sense of humor, but he's impossible to reach via email. He uses an online free textbook that doesn't give appropriate lessons on how to solve problems and it shows you how to use TI-89 which we don't use in class. He uses GeoGebra & WebAssign, which are ok, but I didn't sign up for an online class. Tests are VERY hard!
Ralf explained the material clearly and with enthusiasm. He showed excellent mastery of the material and clearly understood the material well. He also encouraged us throughout the course and cared that we understood the material. The class was a bit light on class participation, but he did give us the opportunity to ask questions or topics.
I took Stats 243 & 244 with 6 months of each other. Ralf is an outstanding teacher at PCC. While it is true that he assigns a fair amount of HW which if you do then you will understand the material. Duh. He is funny, kind, caring, inspiring, accessible, and very intelligent. He is a great protector of equality as well.
I was really scared to take statistics but I'm glad I took both of my statistics classes with him. He made the classes feasible, and he's always willing to help. 100% recommend him :)
Stats is not easy. Ralf made it doable. He is understanding & generous with his grading, and he posts all of his in-class notes to the class webpage. Thats was super useful. His study guides are pretty on-point with his exams. Lots of homework, but he doesn't grade it very hard, -just checks that you did it and got the point. I recommend him.
Great teacher that really cares for his students. FREE textbook for my class! Does a great job explaining things, made math a little easier to take. Grade is capstone project 25%(easy) final 25% midterm 22% homework 20% attendance 10% allows one free absence
He helps you when you need it, and explains things in multiple different ways for everyone to understand. Also, the lectures are not boring at all, which makes it easier to learn
Great instructor no matter what was happening in his life and how crap the semester was, he was there everyday for everyone. He streamlined the work and doesn't waste time describing theory, only application and understanding the basics. Tests are very difficult and text is useless but next semester has new text I wish I had. Genius man of math.
Ralf is an amazing professor, no doubt about it. He is extremely clear in his explanations, homework is easy though mildly tedious at times, tests are easier than the study guides, and as long as you do everything you are told you should get an A. Genuinely enjoyed this class in every aspect and would highly recommend him to anyone.
Free online textbook - works great, saves you money. Be warned: before the midterm it's intuitive and pretty easy, gets a bit tougher after that. Tests aren't bad, long as you do the homework you'll be fine. Lectures can get bogged down a bit as he writes out notes/examples, but he also shows you how to do the work on computer which is helpful.
Ralf is hilarious but his class was a nightmare. You are on your own. Trying to see him during office hours sucks because at least 10 of his other students are there waiting in line. Did not use the TI89 calculator, lots of homework, you will use Geogebra and excel a lot. You will complete a capstone project. My gpa suffered and I am an A student.
JUST A GREAT TEACHER! I LOVED STATISTICS! even thought of changing my major now! Textbook is available online, do the homework, show up to class, ( he is always available at the office hours very caring and explains well! He appreciates your effort and grades very fairly! THE best teacher in PCC!
Ralf is an incredibly nice down to earth teacher who respects all of his students. He is willing to put in the time to get the most students he can passing his class and I know that was the case for me. I am grateful to have met him!
I have dreaded having to take Statistics since the start of my college career but Ralph totally made it manageable. He explained things as clearly as any math professor could, he had great energy throughout the semester, he was available during his office hours and he was fun. The capstone project was practical and thoughtful.
Great instructor! He cares about the afordibiltiy of the textbook. You can either use the textbook online for free or buy the textbook for $25-$35. He is very helpful and patient with any questions you have. Graded on a capstone project, attendence, homework and 3 tests. A lot of areas to make up points if your not a great test taker.
Yes, stats can be hard (regardless of your teacher), so yes, work well, understand and you'll have an A. Because stats are stats, practice is important. Ralf will give you this opportunity through a lot but essential homework. To me, his grading system is clear and fair. Available, he will quickly answer your e-mail. Thank you Ralf.
Ralf is a tough grader but he gives you the chance to correct and turn things back in for a certain percentage of points. He is really, really slow at getting homework/project back to you. If you miss a class you will be lost. His notes are poorly written and they don't reflect the hw. Ralf is almost impossible to get a hold of outside class.
Ralf relied heavily Geogebra, a computer program, as the way to solve homework problems. I wish he taught us how to solve problems using a calculator because I found ways to solve them on my calculator that were easier and more practical than keeping a laptop with me. He relied on slides that were confusing and abstract for teaching the lessons.
This class was super lecture heavy and used slides are weren' very helpful or clear. I liked how he used Geogebra because it made things super easy, but I dont know how practical using the program would be in the real world. I would have like to learn on the calculator bc I feel I would of absorbed the material better. I have forgotten everything.
He's a pretty good teacher, he knows how to teach. Grades are always posted online on D2L, you will know what material you didn't do and calculations for your grade are always easy. He will always help you.
Ralf was very nice. He understands that students have other things going on. He gave clear descriptions of the topics and was always willing to answer questions.
Ralf is a very fun and relatable teacher who makes stats as painless as stats can get in my opinion. hes kinda zany in class and gives a good general idea, and one on one he will focus all attention on you with great patience and try multiple examples to help you understand. integrates technology quite well which helps a lot. 10/10
ECHS: Great professor. Uses GeoGebra a lot which really helps understand and visualize data further down the chapters. Gives review sheets which are helpful. Always want to help even if he's busy. Lots of office hours and comes by the tutor center as well. Getting help can be tricky as not many tutors know and lines are long to seek help from Ralf.
Ralf is an awesome teacher. He is patient and gives his all in every class. This was my second class with him. I also took 243 with him. If you genuinely want to pass and work hard for it, youll be fine!
Really great teacher, gives as many opportunities to make up points, and really wants you to get the best grade you can. There is a LOT of homework though..
Stats with him seemed like taking a 2nd grade class with how easy everything is. Horribly boring 2hr 20 min lectures and if you even make a sound he gets mad at you for being distracting even though him stopping to cause a scene is the only distracting thing. It doesnt help that the classmates in this class arent the brightest.
Not sure why Ralf would ever get a bad review. He REALLY cares about his students and gives lots of opportunity to do well. There was lots of HW but it helped me understand the material and the study guide is similar to the test. Stats was tough but if you make an effort, you'll do well. He's a great professor and his lectures are fun!
Ralf is the best math teacher/professor I've ever had. You can tell he really cares about his students from the first day. He has a great energy, and is really funny! I've never been great with math, but he made stats really easy to understand. There's a lot of homework, but if you spread it out like he recommends, it's easy to tackle.
I'm so glad I took stats from Ralf. He's super brilliant and passionate about what he does. He's very patient in answering questions. Yes, there is a lot of homework, but, I mean... it's college. Ralf makes all this stuff seem relevant, especially with the project, which is really just a series of hw assignments. You won't regret taking Ralf!
Ralf is a really good teacher. Ralf is very generous in his grading. I've never had trouble with him. He's very kind and nice and respects students. Do the homework, projects on time and you'll get full points. Exams are hard but manageable. Be aware that you'll be using GeoGebra to calculate Statistics instead of a TI-94 which has a learning curve
Ralph is your best option for Stats. Don't take it online. Honestly I dropped an online section with another prof which was like 5x the work of this class. Ralph is engaging and wants you to learn, makes stats as painless as it can be. I honestly thought the class was easy, you get points for homework, a project, tests, attendance. Really like him.
I struggled throughout high school with math and was terrified at the prospect of more math in college. What sets Ralf apart from other teachers is his dedication to explaining the "why" of how math works instead of just the "what." In addition, he cares deeply about each and every one of his students, and is very approachable outside of class.
I took Ralf for MTH60 and was happy to hear that he was also teaching MTH65. He is very good at explaining how math works from many different perspectives. He is very giving with his time and will stay after class to help you grasp difficult concepts. He is fully invested with his teaching and wants the best for his students.
I had taken Ralf for both MTH60 and MTH65, and was happy to hear that he was also teaching MTH95. This is a difficult math course for those that struggled with math in high school, but Ralf is very giving with his time to help people understand difficult concepts. There is lots of homework, but it is relevant and will really help you on the test.
Considering im laying in bed crying unable to do my homework im gonna have to say dont take his class. He has absolutely no idea how to explain anything, turns things back WEEKS later, and overall makes me wanna hit my head up against a wall repeatedly.
Ralf is the best if you are taking math. He makes the learning for a hard course easier and he cares for his students. If you have questions Ralf is always willing to help and he's generous. I wish I had known him before I registered. I swapped into Ralf's class in the 4th week. BTW you don't have to buy calculator in Ralf's. we use free tools.
Coming back after taking a break from school was an hard decision and after taking stats 243 with Ralf I feel inspired and motivated. He is the only teacher I've met that projected his believe in that ANYONE can do math. What an amazing professor. Lots of hmwk and reading the book/slides before class will help a ton. Do your mid-term reviews! TAKE
Ralf Youtz has a cute personality; he makes quirky jokes here and there. He is always in a good mood. I actually found his class to be extremely easy and the homework made it a lot easier. His study guides are a good reflection of the tests. One bad thing about him is that he takes forever to give back your work.
I haven't taken any of those -gonomitries or any other math really for years. But he made time to tutor during his office hours when I get lost in lectures and really saw my improvement. I went from getting C in my first exam, to an A on my final exam. He is one of the few instructors that really loves to see his students succeed.
He's a wonderful human being, very caring, considerate and awesome. I was nervous taking MTH243 but Ralf really made class fun with all his energy and enthusiasm for Stats. Expect to have hw almost everyday and, but , very doable. His class is pretty organized and easy to follow if you want to be ahead of work. Also no need to buy txt book !
Ralf is a very kind man. However, when it comes to actually teaching he does a very mediocre job. During class when lecturing he will constantly get off topic, talking about his kid or going into too much detail you don't need. While his dorky demeanor is charming at first, when you are actually trying to learn and pass the class it's infuriating
Ralf is caring, funny, and an overall great professor and human being. I can't say enough about Ralf. I wish he taught Stats 3. I took him for stats 243 and 244. The man Is just good, period.
Ive had a series of bad math teachers that made me dislike math, but I completely loved this course! Ralf took the time to make sure everything was clear and well explained. If you show up and do the work, its a great course and youll learn a lot. Highly recommend.
Ralf is awesome! I was dreading taking this class but he made it so understandable and cares about his students' success. He really takes his time to walk through his lectures to make sure you understand everything. There is a lot of homework but it was great practice and really helped on the tests and his study guides were really helpful.
I took MTH 243 and MTH 244 with Ralf Youtz and he was definitely one of my favorite professors. The reviews he gave before tests were very similar to the tests. He used GeoGebra a lot, and you are allowed to use GeoGebra on exams. He explained concepts in a way that made sense and was always willing to answer questions.
He is really great about making sure you understand e very last detail if you need help. He really goes above and beyond for his students education on such a difficult topic. If you struggle with math he is great for you because he really does take the time in and out of class to make sure you are caught up. deff taking him next term for stats 2
Youtz is exactly what it means to be a balanced professor. He does well in both the teaching aspect and even more so in the personal aspect, as he always carries a positive attitude. The class goes by quickly, has assignments regularly, and you could fall behind easily. However, Youtz is always there to help and prepare you for upcoming exams.
Ralf is one of the best teachers I have ever met. He is not only passionate about teaching, he understands students better than most professors and even adults do. Hell, I feel he understands me more than my therapist does. People struggling with disabilities and/or minorities should definitely go for him as he is incredibly accommodating.
Ralf is an amazing professor. I took him for 243 and 244 (stats 1&2) If I needed to take more math classes, Id take them with him. Couple of midterms but they are a breeze if you pay attention in class and make the notecard he allows for exams. There is daily homework as well, but the textbook is online and easy to use.
Ralf is amazing! I hope to take a class with him again for Stats II if he is still planning to teach an online course due to COVID. He explains stats in a way that makes sense, and if you don't understand something he has very clear office hours. I didn't take MTH 111 before, and I didn't find the class super difficult at all because of him.
He is the sweetest man and a very caring teacher. He offers you every opportunity to learn and doesn't care about grades, just your learning and well being. 10/10 human being, 10/10 instructor. Free textbook.. need I say more? Any teacher that offers a free textbook is a real gem.
Great lectures. Thought-provoking assignments. Relatable examples to real life. Consistantly available. Super caring. It is still statistics so expect fair bit of work. Managable level of difficulty for exams. Ralf is what I would really like all my teachers to be. Wish he expands into Calcs. Highly recommand.
I left a review for the 243 class, but I wanted to give an update about 244, which was taught remotely. Ralf was wonderful, accomodating, and understanding. The lectures were recorded so you could watch on your own time, and the due-dates were more like guidelines so you could work on your own time. I learnt so much without stressing too much.
Ralf was an amazing teacher! He's super caring and wants all of his students to succeed. His lectures were interesting to listen to and made the classroom feel like a community. There's a really good amount of homework in the class, enough to understand the material but not be overwhelmed. Very fun and rewarding class, take prof Ralf if you can!!!
Best math class I've taken- I did it in 2 weeks. Only MANDATORY things are midterm and final (both are open resource/tutors). The more you complete, the more points your grade is made of. Homework is manageable and you can check in the back of the book. Due dates are guidelines. Professor helped me with questions on final. 10/10 math class!
Statistics is HARD no matter who you take. I am literally the worst person at math in the world, and I got an A- which shows you what a great teacher Ralf is. It's extremely evident that he cares about making sure everyone understands the material and provides plenty of opportunity to build your grade up. Highly highly recommend him!
hes great. he made a topic that i struggle most with, sucha smooth pass. hes super understanding and humble, hes amazing
I HATED math all throughout high school, but not once did I dread attending Ralfs class. He is kind, caring, and makes lectures interesting. Due dates are flexible (I turned in a bunch of stuff late and still received full credit), and attending meetings is not required as they are recorded. Hes a great teacher, definitely take him if you can!
Ralf genuinely cares. Do all the work + ask for help + you will succeed. Ralf always reminded us that statistics is hard + we should understand the big idea. TBH he didn't reply to emails very quickly but was open about the fact that the term had been really hard for them. Made a point of making all people feel welcome + talked ab world issues.
He is very flexible and cares about his student's understanding of statistics. As long as you do the assignments and show you are progressing, you might pass this class. He believes it's unfair to grade students based on what they know. Instead, he grades us on what we have learned. You aren't graded on what you know until the exams come around.
Ralf's lectures were all over the place & he was easily derailed by his surroundings & random thoughts. His teaching was not linear & he was mostly reading from his slides. Our midterms & HW were not graded until finals week which felt disrespectful of the time we were putting into his class. No way am I prepared for Stats 2. Find someone else!
They made sure everyone felt included, supported, and welcome. They had a situation where they did not provide feedback on work, but rather a grading key and full credit. The work was with a free online resource and book, and HOMEWORK allowed many changes to great the right answer. Easy teacher and learned a lot.
He is the best math teacher at PCC. He is caring, a genius, and very good at teaching. He taught me so much and I ended his class with a 98%. He was accessible outside of class and was incredibly helpful throughout the term. I did work hard but it was worth it. I wish I needed more stats requirements just to take a class of his again.
Very funny, really cares for all students.
Ralf was super supportive despite the class being online. If I were to take another stats class I would for sure take it with him!
If I could I would take him again. The tests are open book, and you can ask questions. He does get side tracked when teaching. He is very flexible and works with individual students. He really wants you to understand the information and does all he can to work with you, but he also understands the it takes some longer to understand the information.
Great professor. He understands that people work at their own pace. He is patient and will work with your needs. He replies fast and is incredibly helpful. Take his class!
Really great teacher! Very understanding and caring. Had a great term and am taking Statistics 2 with this class!
The lectures/material (all from Prof Cara Lee) are great! The MyOpenMath HW includes stuff from the textbook under "optional material", so I was frequently super lost doing the HW. Halfway thru the term, he stopped replying to our emails & didn't grade anything till finals. I feel like I was set up to fail, and had to work VERY hard to get an A.
He didn't write the quizzes. Many had wrong answers and misleading questions, they need a serious overhaul. The videos often don't work and don't show how to use any technology required for computations. He is caring and accommodating. Tests are not stressful. He is also difficult to reach sometimes, only expect to get feedback during office hours.
Ralf will make learning Statistics super fun! He truly does care about his students. Very entertaining and accommodating. I can't recommend him enough!
Ralf is the best! A kind teacher who has a love for stats like no other! A gem of a teacher.
This teacher is very laid back and it makes the class relaxing. I hate math and this class for some reason did not give me anxiety. It's not that I am lazy, but I wish he wouldn't assign us homework until the very end of class, plus an exam. It's like he didn't want the class to ever end, let us leave we hate math. But he is a good teacher.
Youtz is the most engaging professor I have ever. He approaches each lectures with amazing energy. While each class was nearly 3 hours long, it barely felt like 45 minutes. Material is taught with real world scenarios to allow for deeper understanding. Also, live Ukulele music!!!! Only issue I had: exams weren't graded before the end of the term.
He meets people where they're at and is a perfect example of someone who actually believes "no question is a dumb question". Takes time in class and outside of class to do the homework together step by step if there are any problems, and never gets annoyed when going over things multiple times. Can be in person or online or watch later!
He is super great! Very understanding and accepts late work if you communicate! Would recommend!
I really enjoyed having Professor Youtz this term I honestly don't think I would've passed with any other professor let alone gotten an A. He was super helpful, encouraging, cheerful and energetic and I hope to be able to take another class with him in the future and that's saying something because I am horrible at math.
Great profesor who made my first math experience quite enjoyable. Not a tough grade by any means, and is awaits available when questions arise. Some labs and here and there and can take a minute to input grades but overall a fantastic experience. Thanks Ralf!
can't see any reason anyone would rate ralf below a 5. he believes in everyone. super accommodating.
Good professor but takes a while to grade and too answer your emails. Midterm and Finals were online and open note which was awesome. Would let us redo our homework for full points. We had online homework, a worksheet assignment 2-4 pages long, and a participation worksheet 2-4 pages due every week. Doesn't care much about due dates.
Prof Ralf makes stats engaging. The open-book tests and helpful feedback make the class manageable. Definitely use unstuck AI and the free textbook to ace this course.
Ralf is nice, but he isn't good at teaching. The only mandatory assignments were the midterm and the final. He didn't grade the midterm until the week before finals, making it incredibly hard to gauge test readiness. He rushes through difficult content and then talks about random stuff. If you already know stats, go for it. otherwise, don't.
Poor explainer of material. Ralph meowed, neighed, and whined like a kicked dog at us. He hissed on one notable occasion, and moaned loudly on another. He seems to be effectively invulnerable and resistant to any form of embarrassment or self-perception. I have seen more enthusiastic participation in a funeral procession than in his classroom.
I took his online stat class. Homework and participation worksheets every week. He accepts late work with no penalty(literally until the last day of the course) , super accommodating. Open book exams. If your life is busy, I recommend taking his class!
Does not provide any original material, just links to an online textbook and Khan Academy videos, also some other videos but 80% of them have broken links. By Week 8, he had only graded Week 1's homework, so you have no idea if you are on the right track. Took weeks to reply to emails. Didn't know if I had a F or an A until grades were posted.
Sets the standard for how teaching should be done. He wants everybody to get an A. Lectures are excellent and all materials are posted online. He references other resources. He lets you know what to study and what is less important. He really understands how people learn. And he seems to be a great person. I want to take more classes with him.
Very nice, easy to meet with, helps out during tests, and stays behind if you go over class time.
