He's nice.
He's so chill and funny! I loved coming to this class. And he's really cute which is a plus!
He is a very engaging teacher, and very passionate about the subject. His presents in the classroom is not intimidating which encourages us students to ask questions, engage in lecture, and have fun in class. Highly recommend Professor Castellanos, he is awesome.
Had a lot of fun in this class. If you have some anxiety about public speaking, this class will definitely help you eliminate it if not lower it. Quizzes and tests are easy if you know the material, so just keep up on the readings. There's plenty of public speaking in this class so be prepared! I highly recommend this class...
Great Teacher! He's very helpful and open minded with his students. He always encourages everyone to strive for their potential. I would recommend this class to everyone :D
He's a great teacher. Very enthusiastic and upbeat. He changes subject frequently to keep your attentions and his tests are fairly easy. If you read the book, the class is an easy A. Even if you struggle with speeches, he'll help you one on one to improve it. The class is both fun and easy. Take Castellanos if you're planning on taking HCOM100
He was such an awesome teacher ! Never lectured but made class an open discussion that was actually intresting. Related everything to our lives...even the book was modern and I didn't have a hard time reading it. Two tests with 40 questions..easy if you pay attention and do the readings. Definitely enjoyed the class and would recommend him !
TAKE THIS CLASS!! i always looked forward to this class. Hes super nice and the course work is manageable. Im actually sad i dont have this class anymore.
Take this class! He is so helpful and clarifies any work he gives. Attend class trust you wont regret it.
Castellanos is a new teacher and he is really chill. All his tests are straight from the book with about 5% of other things. You don't even have to read the book itself! Just review the golden pages with the vocabulary and you're guaranteed a 90%+. He tries to make the class exciting so you're never really bored there. Definitely do take
My favorite class this semester!!! If you have a fear of public speaking take it with him! His midterm/quizzes are hard if you don't read so READ! Not to strict on grading speeches but it's very easy to get an A if you are prepared, offers extra credit as well! try and make friends with everyone and it makes speeches easier trust me!
AWESOME TEACHER! This was my favorite class, and I always looked forward to it. If you read the class should not be too difficult. Mr. C, you da bomb!
Mr. C is the bomb-diggity! His tests can be a bit challenging sometimes so make sure you actually read. He hardly lectures, and encourages class discussions. I wouldn't say hes an easy A...but it is an easy class to pass. Overall, this class was the only class I looked forward to coming everyday. Awesome teacher!
Love this dude! Right off the bat a fun guy who loves HCOM. He makes class funinteresting and easily relates to his students. He made my 1st semester of college a WHOLE lot of fun. Ask him questions if you need help. Befriend him and he will take care of you. He sees a struggling student and helps! Cant say enough good things about him. Great guy!
Loved him in the beginning but then his attitude switched. Always wanted to make the class harder and talked about his classes and what he has to do. Knows the material. Can use notes on quiz's that are usually once a week.
His lectures are interesting especially if class participates and actually have a discussion. Easy quizzes and overall great professor!!
He is a pretty cool teacher . He likes to tell jokes and tries to get to know you. Out of all my professors, he was the only one who actually took the time to learn everyone's name You must read the book. His quizzes are once a week, open notes. His Homework are fair and he offers a few extra credit. I highly recommend you take him
This class offers a new look into both Human Communications lecturepublic speaking. Since it is a duel class it seemed to be rushed, but the instructor did the best he could to make the class fun and kinda challenging. Interesting lectures and easy quiz's. Overall an easy class but could get a little confusing sometimes.
Interesting discussions. Wish he spent more time discussing book concepts. Can get a bit confusing when it comes to what he's expecting from assignments. Cool class though, and you can tell he cares about teaching and his students.
Class is easy for the most part, tough grader but should be easy to get an A if you know how to write, only two essays and two speeches, quizzes straight from the book and extremely easy.
He's really nice and it's a great class for a freshman! It's interesting so the reading is fun but if you go to the class all you really have to do is read the section review.
Super tough grader. Class is mandatory. Weekly quizzes on each chapter. Shows no mercy at all when it comes to grading. Overall, one of my favorite teachers. Hes young so hes easy to relate to. Rarely emails you back when you ask for help though so if you need help, you have a better chance at seeing him in office hours!
Didn't like his grading, especially when he's grading speeches. Its like he wants me to fail or doesn't want me to get the grade I deserve. Overall, I suppose it's a good class. Textbook is required for quizzes and exams. There are 2 short essays, only 2 pages long doubled space. Doesn't give any feedback on the essays like he said he would.
A pretty chill teacher. Class is point system so you should go for some easy points. Weekly chapter quizzes (not difficult if you read outline), two essays, and two speeches. Overall he's a nice, down-to-earth guy who's pretty funny. Favorite class this semester.
Confusing on directions, grades hard.
For a 100 course, this class requires a bit of effort. Ralph inspires his students & is willing to answer any questions about anything. You must read the book and prepare for your speeches. He grades difficult on papersspeeches; but its bc he wants you to be a better writer. Ralph is funny and incorporates Youtube into his lectures. Very relatable
Very unorganized and unclear with directions. Hated how he didn't lecture, so the all the information was self-taught. However, he encouraged his students to participate and join in on discussions a lot. Seemed to care for students on a personal level more than a teacher-student relationship. Weekly open note quizzes, 2 essays, 2 speeches, 2 tests.
R. Castellanos is a really laid back, chill kind of teacher but don't get me wrong.. he can put you to work. For a pretty somewhat lazy student, I really recommend this class. You have weekly 10 question chapter quizzes (which are fairly easy if you at least skim the chp), 2 speeches, and 2 small essays. And show up to class to get points!
Very nice, open. Could be more organized. A midterm and a final, both fairly easy. two small papers and two speeches. Good for people who don't like public speaking but need to fill the oral communications requirement
Tough with grading paper but good easy class.
Hcomm was pretty easy. If you go to class and pay attention there will be no problem
Such a great teacher! If you go to class, pay attention and ask questions, everything would be easy!
He's young so it makes it easier to connect with him and his teaching ways. Tests were easy and he gave very good feedback on our essays. I always tell my friends to sign up for his course if they want to pass without having a lot of stress. This class also had a lot of open floor discussions making it easier to get used to public speaking.
Honestly, this class wasn't too difficult, but he kind of grades hard (ruined my grade Dx). He explains things pretty well when going through chapters, and the quizzes are open note, so overall you should pass with at least a B. All we had were weekly quizzes on chapters in the book, two application papers, and two speeches.
One of the easiest classes ever if you don't procrastinate. He gives you a lot of time to do one assignment.
He's okay
He's a tough grader but his lectures are pretty clear.I liked the way he would incorporate real life scenarios to about everything we would go over in lectures, so I don't understand why people say he is confusing. A midterm, final, 2 short papers and a few speeches, great if you're not very comfortable with pubilcly speaking!Id recommend him.
The professor is a really genuine guy. He opens up to his student on a personal level and he is really well-respected. Students who says that this class is boring is because they didn't participate and never knew whats going on. You have to interact with the class to enjoy it. Gives short lectures. Reading is key! Really helps you in the long run.
Castellanos is good at introducing communications to freshmen who otherwise would be bored to tears, if you are scared of public speaking like me, take his class and he will help you be more confident. There's 3 papers if you're better at writing, but a lot of chapter quizzes at the start so reading is crucial! Overall an easy required course. :)
Class is pretty straightforward come to class, do the readings, take quizzes, write two papers, and presentations.
Graded everyone equally and fairly. Gives good advice. Practice your big speeches well, cite your sources orally, and you'll do just fine.
Okay teacher. Sometimes can be confusing on assignments.
He's a really cool guy but sometimes his directions are confusing. Encourages students to participate and makes you comfortable when you have to give speeches. The quizzes prepare you for the midterm if you read but after that reading is optional which makes the final a bit harder. Overall an decent class.
The class was okay overall. There are open note quizzes everyday in class for the first half or so of the semester. Then you have two minor speeches (which if you do you get credit) then two major speeches (which you meticulously get graded on). Ralph is a tough grader and it was sometimes hard to understand what he was grading you on.
He doesn't really explain what he wants well. He gives you opportunities to bring up your grade.
Overall is not a bad teacher. There are 10 weekly quizzes which are not difficult if you do the reading. We had two papers The second one ended up getting pushed back because he did not grade the first one. He can be a bit confusing when it comes to grading, but it is not hard to pass the class. Typos were on many papers handed out..
This class was somewhat easy. There are quizzes based off readings and a few speeches however he can be sometimes unclear on directions and what he wants on assignments.
The class wasnt too difficult. Class is mainly quiz at the beginning, discussion on the chapter assigned, then an activity relating to the chapter. He's a great professor if you're not the best speaker since he mainly grades on content rather that delivery. He has a great personality and is funny, but he is a tough grader and takes his time grading
Professor Castellanos is a really nice guy, he will joke and try to help you the best way he can. He has quizzes every week on the chapters but for the test he gave a pretty easy study guide. Be sure to follow the structure for the speeches and cite your sources and you'll get good grades. He is slow with grading and doesn't always check his email
Has potential to be a great professor but he is not there yet. He can often come off rude and unapproachable.
he's chill and on point
Literally the worst teacher I have ever had. If you just want the course credit, take the class, its not hard. But you will seriously contemplate punching yourself in the face every time he talks about himself. He is of no help when you have a question and grades hard on papers even though all of his hand outs have at least 10 typos
Easy class, show up and take notes on the chapters for the quizzes. His grading criteria is confusing and he takes forever to return work. He can also come off as really rude
If you're lazy, full of excuses, & expected college to be as easy as high school, you won't pass. Easy class. Easy assignments as long as you read the assigned chapters. Tough grader, but he will work with you as long as you communicate whim in advance. Funny & interesting topic discussions. FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES. Just ask. Favorite class!
He makes the class interesting and actually likes to know his students. He makes the class a comfortable environment especially when it comes to giving speeches. It's a fairly easy class but he takes attendance so you should go to class. He doesn't really lecture, the tests are pretty much the definitions in the book and examples.
He was a pretty good teacher overall.
He is a good teacher and helps you along the way
He's pretty cool, there's two major speeches and two major test
Easy class just show up
Really easygoing and conversational. Does what he can to help everyone do well.
Very nice and helpful. Great on feedback. If you're quiet and hate public speaking, he expects you to participate and he'll take you out of your comfort zone in order to improve your speaking. He strongly follows the book, but its great book with plenty of pop culture references.
This teacher will take communications and will apply it to everyday use.. I really looked forward to this class every time I had it.. He really cares about his students and it shows through his lectures.. He uses info from the class to help us in our day to day situations.. Something rarely seen but greatly cherished..
Just take his class
Young and very relatable. He grades fairly which is usually viewed as tough. He gives multiple opportunities for extra credit and he doesn't just lecture, he facilitates meaningful discussions with the class. Its the one class I took where I learned something useful outside of school. Great professor, really relatable, would take again.
Get ready for speeches! There's two major speeches that you have to do towards the end of the semester, but don't worry! During the semester, he helps you get out of your comfort zone and get some practice by delivering some minor speeches. He's pretty funny and willing to help you if you ask. I didn't expected to enjoy this class, but I did.
He's a good teacher, makes sure you understand the material and ask questions if you needed help. He's also somewhat close to our age, so the examples he used during lecture were relevant to today and helped you understand the material a lot more. Overall, I enjoyed the class and him as a teacher! Just make sure you get the book and read!
Awesome professor! Two major speeches and a couple of minor speeches, not to difficult. Tests aren't hard as long as you review and memorize the material thats on the study guides. I would definitely recommend any student to take his class.
Best teacher I've ever had in my educational career. Was actually sad to leave him behind.
He makes the concepts in the textbook relatable, and encourages discussion. He also pulls out a couple practice speeches to prepare the class for 2 major speeches. Best teacher I've ever had in my educational career. Was actually sad to leave him behind.
Ralph is a really cool guy. He knows a lot about human communications and tries to make it easier for the students to learn. Rarely any homework and helps you prepare for the test very well.
Encourages discussion! Not a class you just sit in and listen to boring lectures in. He actually engages with the students. Rarely any homework and only a few minor speeches and 2 major speeches.
He was a pretty cool guy honestly, he engaged in the class extremely well and made everyone in the very comfortable
Nice enough class. You can pass as long as you do the chapter summary assignments and pay a little bit of attention.
He always tries to connect with all the students .
Lectures are interesting and very engaging. Applys real life example and current events to theories. Definitely would take again, and also get ready for a lot of speeches.
Really great professor! Has a different style of teaching: he communicates with the students a lot. He really engaged us and liked talking to us and it gave the classroom a very welcoming and open environment!
Alright class.
Amazing teacher. Really cares about his students. He will always start the class with small talk. Participation is important. He is hilarious. Tough grader, but extremely helpful. This class will challenge you, but you will learn so much.
He is an awesome teacher! He makes the assignments clear and he is easy to talk to. I would take another class with him.
Best Professor ever, helps you to be better speaker by giving you a lot of feed back to help you prepare for your future career. Defintily would recommend this Professor.
Overall it was a great class. Mr.C is very easy going and the assignments are straightforward. Do the work, show up to class and you should have no problem!
Ralph helped with my public speaking by giving feedback after every speech. The textbook was used a lot and was actually very beneficial. Ralph was always honest with his comments and advise, and always wanted us to do better. he prepared his students to be able to present in a work place setting.
Great class! Glad I took it with him!
Ralph is an awesome teacher! When I first started coming to this class, he made us all feel comfortable right away. In this case, I didn't feel nervous asking him any questions after class. There are speeches in this class but he helps by showing the class how to make outlines! He is always in a good mood and because of that, class is not boring!
He's a very good teacher. His lectures aren't too long. You do have to do a good amount of reading on your own but it isn't anything that's too hard. Overall it's a pretty easy class if you follow all the assignments you need to complete.
I was always nervous about taking this class, but Mr. Castellanos created an environment where I was comfortable to speak. The amount of speeches was reasonable as it gives you opportunities to practice. Professor is very caring and not only gives you tips on communication but also valuable insights on career and life. I would highly recommend him.
i was previously not into public speaking but after taking his class, professor boosted my confident and kept motivating. A good professor
Class was not difficult. 2 major speeches and 3 minor speeches. He graded tough on the major speeches, he really wanted you to get better. Well respected.
Really good professor that makes public speaking seem less scary. 3 major speeches and a couple minor speeches. Can be a tough grader on the speeches but he means well and genuinely wants to help the students become better speakers. Also very funny.
I hate public speaking and took his class and honestly wasn't too bad. He does tend to get off topic and sometimes lectures us as if you're his kids. Besides that pretty solid professor
He's a pretty chill guy to talk to and makes class bearable since he sometimes just talks about random stuff before class starts
Seriously one of the greatest teachers I'be ever had. He genuinely cares about making an impact on his students' lives, and he gave such great life advice-he needs to have his own ted talk lol. His grading was pretty good, pretty strict when it came to speeches but he gives great constructive criticism. super light hw-load, overall easy class
Really good professor and person in general. He makes the class fun to be in and homework easy to follow, in addition the load isn't that bad. He's straight forward with tests and presentations. The only thing I'd have to point out is that you dont know your grade much of the time. He'll go over them a few times but he's also easy to reach out to.
He forgets when things are due and what topics we are on. Not very much work or time required in homework.
Very nice
Great teacher! Always explains things well so he can make sure you understand it. Gives great feedback and well respected. would take him again
I really enjoy this class. I wasn't the best at presenting but he gave me really good feedback. I understand my flaws now. I would recommend to take this class.
Really good teacher. Gives good feedback when doing speeches. The criteria is straight forward and easy to follow
Engages with his students very well. It's not the typical class where you walk in takes notes the whole time.
It's really easy to feel yourself in class as long as you act yourself. Material wise, he is really straight forward with the material and wont trick you. The first half of the semester includes reading the text book, taking notes, a few small speeches (easy) and a midterm. The remainder of the semester you have a paper and and a few more speeches.
Always has good humor during class, likes to end his lectures early a lot, so don't expect to be here the entire class. He does assign a couple presentations, but that's really to be expected for an HCom class.
This class was pretty straightforward and we did most of what was on the syllabus. If you study for the tests and come prepared for the speeches, then you shouldn't have trouble passing this class.
This class is pretty much what you basically have to do. HW is reading and taking notes on the chapter. He helps you on what you can do to improve on the speeches you give. The speeches are easy as long as you have the confidence to give and he gives you the grade as long as you did it. I recommend students to take this class for HCOM100.
It is a good class to take. The professor has a good teaching style and very polite and kind. The exams are multiple choice.
He is a great professor and I highly recommend taking a class with him.
GREAT!! He does assign speeches that require research but the topics aren't difficult. Don't buy the book, he says to take notes but he never checked them. He's very detailed on what he expects and is very interesting and funny! The class isn't hard at all as long as you take the time to do your speech. Favorite professor.
Great teacher, he gives you great feedback. Gives you an outline for every presentation to follow, after that its all on you. He mainly focuses on sources.
Really good professor! Really nice with a great sense of humor. I walked in the class in the beginning of the semester panicking because I didn't know how to speak well. This professor helped me and I progressed to become a great speaker. Thank you! EVERYONE TAKE Him!
He was a great instructor makes you work for you grade and is fair!
The class had barely any homework, and I found that he was very fair with his rating and manner of grading. I loved taking his class, the hardest part was doing the speeches.
Honestly probably one of my faviote professors hes really chill we almost always got out of class early. Only thing is the speeches he is a crazy hard grader! Make sure to follow the outline
Great teacher! My favorite class so far!
Hes really fun and active but his speeches are graded tough.
Makes you work for your grade. Obviously there are going to be speeches, study for it for a good grade.
Great professor
Grade relies on speeches and exams. Definitely practice and work on your delivery and you'll do great!
The class was interesting and alot of participation
Hes a really cool guy. Teaching style is easy to follow. He puts the powerpoints online so if you miss something then you can refer to that. Can only miss 2 classes but he made you want to not miss because he was interesting
Cool guy. He is a tough grader on the speeches but if you do good on the exams you should pass no problem. Two easy papers as well
Amazing professor would definitely recommended anyone to take this class. You do need the text book and there are only 2 tests and 2 big speeches. Definitely take his course for HCOM100.
He engaged with the class well, but he was a hard grader, especially with speeches.
There are two essays and a few minor speeches and two big speeches. Take them seriously and really follow the criteria to get a good grade. He grades the paper super easy as long as you did them. The midterm and final are straightforward. Hes really passionate about the subject and tries to make the class entertaining.
He makes lectures interactive and entertaining, therefore you don't have to worry about being bored. His lectures are based off the book, but he doesn't give all of the information, just basics. So, you should read the book to fully understand everything for the midterm and final. He grades speeches thoroughly, so don't take them lightly.
Really cool professor and entertaining class. Words of advice, take the two main presentations seriously and put extra effort into them as that is a major part of your grade. The few papers due are simple and the only exams are midterms and finals and those are straight forward.
Overall, I would say it was a pretty amazing class. The exams aren't too bad if you study. The speeches are difficult to get good grades on. However, you should be able to get a high grade if you hit all the points in his outline and follow directions. You don't really need the textbook except for the midterm and final.
Great teacher with excellent PowerPoints and lessons. However, there are few opportunities to raise your grade. Speeches are tough with harsh grading.
He does not give a lot homework
Was a cool teacher. Grades well. Very understanding!
Cool teacher that tries to make the class as interesting as possible. Straight forward with grading on speeches. Midterm and final exam are purely based on the textbook/notes, (mainly textbook) so the book is necessary. Overall solid choice for a professor.
Tough grader but enjoyable class.
Showing up to class is a must, he takes roll. Not too bad of an instructor. Can ramble off sometimes but overall a good professor and you leave the class ready to give a presentation.
