He is dificult. Could make addition difficult.
Lectures straight from bk, so most skipped class. No insights, no applications of lin alg. Often doesn't give partial credit, so if mistake affects rest of problem, 0 pts. Lacks human touch. Once he chastised class on how we're tardy and don't study.
Had him for Discrete Math course. Worst math instructor that I have ever had. Even though the course material is related to CS he stated at the beginning of the course that he did not care for CS and taught course as pure math theory.
Very unfriendly testing policies. Got a definite impression that he wanted the class to fail. Overcomplicated examples from text and made no effort to teach students beyond examples.
Get 3 A.. Get 90 and above most of the time...Those who think the classes are hard means you are not start enough...
Very hard teacher..doesn't help much! COMPLICATES simple things..
Teaching is OK. Does tend to digress from lesson. Test is IMPOSSIBLE, doesn't even go over what was on the test sometime. NO partial credit. NO curves. Not worth taking time. If you like to study, you'll like him. If you don't make the effort, you'll fail

This man is unreasonable, inflexible and extremely difficult. He teaches as though he's teaching honor students. He can only explain things HIS way and if you don't understand...too bad!! DON'T take this instructor.
He is ok, a little bit hard...you should work harder in his class but at least u will learn something...calculator on the tests would be helpful tho :)
He is not as easy as he may seem, he makes things look very difficult and if you are not a serious person, you would fail.
He's tenured so too bad for everyone
Very poor teacher. Even the counselors advise people not to take Esparza for math. :(
hard,hard,hard,......
HORRIBLE TEACHER. Even my advisor told me to stay away from him. I didn't listen but I wish I did. I dropped his class as did about 90% of the class.
he is very hard in grading tests. l used to make 100 in my other math classes but not in his class. my average turned down to 80... very bad to me, do not take him, he makes everything hard.
Discrete Mathematics. The book in the class is already hard to understand. He covers the simple stuff in the book for a long period of time and then doesn't cover the harder material, but he quizzes and tests over some of the harder material, so a student isn't much prepared.
I do not want to say that he is really bad. infact, you can make an A in his class if you are already good in math and a hard working student who does all the homework.but if you are not, you hardly pass his class
BORING.. and no coffee in class. He knows his stuff but it's impossible to pay attention. Tests cover all the HARDEST questions.
Very hard and grade unfairly. very very boring class. he only teaches the easy stuff while you have to learn the hard stuff on ur own. DO NOT PICK THIS PROFESSOR...................
I took his class thinking, "all classes will be challenging" might as well get used to it. He talks to the board! You shouldn't need to give 20 point curves on your tests so that the average is barely a 70! If you like math, you will be frustrated with him. If you thought you hated math - you don't know what hating math is.
trust me. u dont want to be in his class
Ok, let's face it... If u want to see what he's talking about go to the left side of the class coz u wont see the right while he talks to the board. more Tip? move closer coz u might fall asleep while trying to squint your eyes to see what he's writing.
BORING! His voice reminds me of the guy from the dry eyes commercial. He talks to the board. It's a good thing we don't have to show up for class, but he gives weekly quizzes. His tests are short, so if you miss one question, your grade can drop to a low A!! He goes way to fast.
ZZZZ.. thats all I got to say about that... BORING!
very helpful
helps you fail. fast!
Worst. Teacher. Everrr. He will sometimes actually take off points (approxamatly 30% or more) on test problems when the problem is completly correct and mathmatically proven, but you leave something out (like curly brackets on set notation).
avoid him like the plague. I tried, I honestly tried my hardest to stay awake in his class, but I failed. I dropped the class after 4 weeks not because of my grade, but because every day spent in his class made me want to pull out my eyes.
his quizzes and tests are really really really hard... but w/ big 15 points curves but not enough to help pple pass the tests unless u are a math genius urself.. avoid taking him... thought i woulda gotten a B for his class but nope!! which brings down my gpa by .3 gr...
total ass!! didnt ever work out problems!!!
This guy is way too strict on everything, he's really boring, and needs to work on his people skills cause he's so uptight. I took his class and had to drop it and later found out that only 4 people were left in his class. I took the exact same class but different teacher and gladly made an A. Don't make the same mistake I did for picking Esparza.
Really really hard... you have to study a lot, practically eat whole the book to pass, his tests are way too hard and tou can't even use a calculator... and on top of that he's not friendly
Don't ****ing take this proffesor he is a **** that just talk to the board and never explain the probles He dont let you use calculator in his class and he is very extrict in his testes he take you off points for everything. I hate this teacher because of him I have to drop the class If you dont have many skillz in this field dont take him

Esparza is the WORST math professor ever!! He is too strict and takes off too many points for small mistakes. he makes math harder than it has to be. Plus he can't teach and he's not helpful at all!! Avoid Esparza unless you want to fail Math.
Hard, but if you show up to class everyday and do your homework then you should have no problem doing well. No calculators on the tests!!

his class is very difficult, but it's not tricky. as long as you study hard and regularly you'll be fine. he definately gets you to learn the material. if you make an A in this class, you'll know you've earned it.
Run. Run far away and don't look back. No, no i know what you're thinking, "oh these are just a bunch of slackers." I'm no slacker. I was once looking at this thinking the same thing and you know what happened? They were right. So take my advice now, run.
This is the hardest math class I have ever taken, and never have I learned so much in one semester! There were only about 6 people left by the time we took the final, but I ended up with an A. He curves and isn't harsh on arithmetic errors, but if you don't understand the material inside and out you won't be successful.
DO NOT TAKE HIM !!!! NO CALCULATORS ON TESTS, DOESNT HELP U AT ALL, MAKES U WANT TO SLEEP IN CLASS. VERYYY BORING, DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING, AND HOMEWORK IS ALL ONLINE. WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT TAKE HIM EVER!
I signed up for the class thinking Mrs. Plumb was going to teach. She had good ratings and all. "What happened to Mrs. Plumb?" I asked. "She is teaching at Eastfield now". Yeah right, I bet that sucker ate her or something. He would ask a question and no one would know the answer. He would yell at us and then, ask us what the question was. =/
Class was extremely hard. He is a nice guy and will try to help you but he explained things too fast for me. I got an A in Calculus I but failed his class. I did NOT show up every day for class.
DO NOT TAKE!! if you solve a problem a different way from the way he does it and still get the same answer he'll still count off. and even if you prove it to him he won't care. class is hard. HORRIBLE TEACHER!
the teacher talks to himself on the board.doesnt ask if anybody understands
I was in his class for about a week before I knew I had to drop the class. I'm not good at math to begin with, and he skips steps because he can "do it in his head cause he's been doing this for 50 years". No calculators on tests. HORRIBLE TEACHER!
Professor teaches to the board and reads straight from the book. The only time he turns around is to ask questions that no one knows and chastise the class for our ignorance. Seriously, worst professor I've ever had.
do not take his class!!
DO NOT TAKE HIM, THE MOST UNHELPFUL TEACHER EVER, THE WHOLE CLASS FAILED AND HIS TESTS ARE VERY HARD, HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOMEWORK PROBLEMS, NOT WILLING TO HELP YOU PASS, SHOULD RETIRE AND SAVE EVERYBODY A HEADACHE, WHETHER YOU ARE GOO AT MATH OR NOT, THIS CLASS WAS EXTREMELY HARD!!!!
ITS A DEATH TRAP: The worst teacher i have ever taken. Talks to the board, doesnt answer questions, doesnt care wheather you pass. After the drop date only 3 people were in the class. If u wanna FAIL take his class!!!
Don't you fall for it too. i took this professor for summer 2 and the class was horrible. he talks to the board, there is no make up for test, lots of homework on line. SO DON'T TAKING HIM FOR SUMMER NOR REGULAR TIME.
Dear Lord, the man has no idea what's going on. No calculators allowed for the tests, i just know i got one wrong because my multiplication was off, or something. He has no perception of what his class knows, you ask him a question and he reexplains it in the same way. drones on and on. He doesn't care if you skip, but you'll die if you do.
Do not sign up for his class. His drop rate is about 75% against an average of about 20%. Even if your math wiz its not worth the hassle. Wait a semester, go to another DCCCD school, or go to collin county. Dont waste your time, and money. The only way to get him out is for no one to sign up for his classes. Spread the word.
Professor lacks the art of teaching. He hardly cares!
He is bad, he take off point for a letter or line, and whenever you complain about it he gave not a good reason. He cover the board during the entire class , so you are not even able to see what is he writing. He spend his time proving most laws instead of showing samples. Most of the class dropped we were 6 left.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, he is so not a good teacher, he talks to the board, if you ask him a question he is snappy when he replies. If he ask a question about a problem and you answer incorrectly, he will degrade you in front of the entire class and make you feel like an idiot.RUN, HE IS TERRIBLE AND SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!
Hes not the worst teacher. I took him last Fall n got an A. He does rely very much on the book and talk mostly to the blackboard, but if you ever come to his office 2 ask for help, he does a VERY GOOD job explaining 1 to 1. I dont recommend him if you are not already good at math. However, Id never blame a bad grade on him. Study hard n youd b fine
Very hard teaching style. Very boring lectures. He's thorough in his explanations but doesn't give much time to let it sink in. His test grading is the hardest part. He's a perfectionist and will count off points for stupid little things like not putting 'X=' before your solution. If you don't show your work the way he wants, you'll get no credit.
I was nervous about taking this prof. Till I got into class. He was not a mean and horrible teacher like people said. He doesn't give out A's just because. You must earn them. Go figure you have to pay attention in class, who would have figured? Oh and study as well. He answered every question for everyone no matter how dumb. YOU JUST HAVE TO ASK!!
He is the worst teacher i have ever had. The thing is, he is too hard to understand plus he talks to the board too much. To give you an idea we were 30 to 35 students when we started the class only 3 or 4 finished the course. I guess this tell you pretty much how a bad teacher he is. He should not be teaching math anymore.
His teaching style maybe boring but he does give out partial credit alot in his tests. You may not like his lecture but you will like his grading. I ended up with an A. He's nice.
A response to some comments...he may help 1 on 1 but then what's the reason of going to class...he doesn't answer all questions...he is demeaning and condescending..."don't take him if you're not good at the math"???...that's the point of going to school, so a TEACHER can TEACH you the subject that you aren't good at yet!...BAR him frm teaching!!!
Very Hard!!
KNOWLEDGEABLE! VERY HELPFUL! If you are a RESPONSIBLE ADULT you will do VERY well in his class. EASY A if you do your part. There are 3 exams, a final, and online homework (no reason not to get 100% on homework). Exams are short (10-15 q's)and straight from homework. If you DON'T do your part you will FAIL. He is very helpful, just talk to him!
this dude sucks.his lectures will just bore you to death!!its hard to just understand what he is saying since he talks to the blackboard.and when you ask something he does explain but he moves on to the next thing really quick without letting it sink in.so while you're trying to figure this out he's on to the next...he is not a good teacher.
Half of the class dropped before the semester was over and of the remaining students approximately half failed. Granted Precalculus is a difficult course, but this professor made it impossible. The tests are extremely difficult and needlessly so, they also count for 90% of the final grade.
Calculus 3. I had to drop the class due to very low test scores. His "partial credit" is limited to about 10%. Talks to the board. Homework questions answered correctly are wrong because "the question was typed incorrectly" in the first place. For your sake, take a different teacher.
Avoid. avoid. avoid. I had to retake his class, ended up with him AGAIN, and barely passed. he sharks classes! i registered for a different teacher and he took it over. dont go to rlc for math.
Yes, class is hard. Assignments are hard, tests are extremely difficult. Made my life miserable. But you know what? that prepared me so much for real college. When I transferred to my 4 yr university, all classes were like that. I'm glad I took him, and started learning to be disciplined, otherwise I wouldn't have graduated from college at all.
We had a full class at the beginning of the semester, now barely six of us attend class. I stayed, but I'll probably have to retake the course next semester. I don't recommend this professor.
We had a full class at the beginning of the semester, now barely six of us attend class. He does not take attendace, he talks to the board, and he can be rude sometimes. I'll probably have to retake this course next semester. Don't recommend this professor.
He's a good guy, but his teaching methods are difficult. He does go over problems in the book and online homework, but he will occasionally get them wrong or get sidetracked into doing a different variation of the problem. Tests are a difficult spin on the things he kind've prepared us for. Just don't take him, folks.
Hardest Class I ever took at Richland. This professor made precal ridiculous. To give you a sense of how bad he was there was only 9-10 people left in the class at the end of the semester and of those people 5-6 where RCHS so they couldn't drop the class anyway. Only way to pass is study like no other and teach yourself
This professor is THE WORST MAN EVER. I am a very intelligent person, I took calculus 2414 and I failed every test. I went on to take this same class at the University of Texas at Austin, with a real teacher, and got an A. Esparza speaks to the board, doesn't attempt to explain his math, and frankly doesn't care at all about your grade. DO NOT TAKE
nice and helpful but the test were ridiculous. i breezed through homework had no problems in lecture and studied alot but on test day i failed. What he put in the test was not in line with what was on homework. sorry if i feel as though making 100s on homework should mean that i can handle the tests. and i dont usually strugle with tests, dont take
Unless you are confident that you can learn everything from the book, i do not recommend this class. Even if you you know the material you will probably still struggle on the tests. If you care about your GPA just take another teacher!!!!
This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life, he talks in a monotonic voice, his tests are hard and he doesn't prepare you for them, the homework is useless and a waste of time because it has no relevance to class or tests. He is not willing to help you if you are failing, or if you need help. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, HE WILL RUIN YOR LIFE
I got an A in Trig, but only because I taught myself. I actually played calculator games in class or decorate my journal. He talks to the board, but the curves on the tests help. If you are an independent learner, then he will be okay, but if not.... do not take.
He knows what he is doing, but he doesn't know how to teach. He spends like one and half hour going over concepts and then asks any questions after introduced like 10 different concepts. He does not explain any steps he take. His tests are very hard, and homework is too much. He needs more grades so he can balance, but he's too lazy to grade.
i highly recommend to not take him, i rather sugg you take online class. he can't explain very well, he is not even interested in teaching. his tests are difficult and very very different from homework. if you wanna self-teach your self by going to class then I would say, it will be okay to take him.
I would not recommend taking his class. He talks to the board, makes frequent arithmetic errors in examples, doesn't explains things clearly and rarely answers questions in a straightforward manner. If you do take his class, be prepared to teach yourself. His tests are difficult and he's a nit-picky grader. Class examples are way easier than tests.
Took him for trig in the summer. Made all As on tests. Never attended class. He talks to the board, so sit on the left side of the class. As long as you look over examples in the book and do mymathlab, you will do fine.
Took him for Pre-Cal summer 2 and made an A. He's the kind of teacher that will lecture the whole time and never pick on you, which I love. You have to sit closer to the front and to the side to be able to see clearly though. Go over his examples and mymathlab and you should get an A. BTW, he retired, we were his last class.
he is super helpful. we would take notes every class. he writes them down as he explains and you copy. he gives homework after every class lecture and is due the day of the next class meeting by 12 am. gives good test reviews(usually the same questions different numbers) keep handouts and bring to class every day super helpful
No Negative scores. I took him for calc 3, and failed miserably. He could not explain anything in an easy fashion. His test were some random statements that you had to figure out what does he want. I ended up taking it at Brookhaven and got an A+. Esparza is out to fail you. Office hours he is even more rude and not helpful to questions.
