Nichols' class is easy, but you do have to show up and try.
He is a very fair teacher, teaches with passion and always willing to help students and making them enjoy the class . I loved his class .HE IS A GREAT TEACHER !
He sucks! passed all the tests but still gave me a "D"! don't take him unless u really need the class and their is no one else teaching it! class is very boring! all he does is show movies and what sucks is he makes you stay until class is over!
Make sure to participate in all class discussions. Take accurate notes and listen attentively. Even then, it's hard to get As on test because he asks things that were never covered in class. He barely looks at your work, but do not underestimate him.
Pay attention in class and still fail! He doesn't know how to grade! His tests are never the same materials that we discuss in class! He tends to go off topic! He is not very helpful either!
Man people are just angry and bitter. He clearly stated that you need to raise your hand and participate in discussions. Your living in a dream world if you think you can sit around all semester and still get an A. Some of the test questions never covered
The key to this class is to raise your hand and say something stupid. Don't tell him that you saw him at the gas station. The guy that did ended up getting a C. Partcipate, partcipate, partcipate.
The tests can be tricky. To cancel them out,do the extra credit that he offers.Go to Cinequest Fest.Take notes in class, bring a recorder, and give feedback to class discussions.HIS SITE HELPS...Don't pass it up,there are notes, hints,& extra credit ideas.
Materials on test never covered in class. Find a way to participate like bsing each one of your statement. He claims "attendance" is part of your particaption grade but really isnt it Work you do is never really looked at, he just guesses on yo
If you're good at BSing then this class is for you. If you're not I'll enjoy seeing you fall on your face. The test are the most important and don't worry about the paper. Remember BSing is the key.
Just talk and you'll do fine in the class. No textbook!!! YAY! But take notes. Tests are facking hard, but do all the extra credit. A's are possible, I did it. Show him you care about your grade, and you'll do fine.
He is a very hard teacher . He expects you to participate and talk all the time if you dont that is a big part of your grade
I found his class very interesting. In order to take a college level course such as this one you need to have a college level of maturity and seriousness.
NOT AN EASY A AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take good notes and participate. I learned more in this class than any other class. Don't be fooled though, cuz if you come late and leave early you won't pass.
This was a great class and I learned a lot! If you take this class you shouldn't expect it to be easy. Professor Nichols is very knowledgeable and teaches you some history, photography camera shots as well as production code and I had 9 classes with 28 units, but I made it and he really helped me!
i got a B during the summer session. we watched a lot of movies. easy tests. papers weren't too hard. i didn't even talk in class, although he stressed how important it was. he looks sorta like chris farley!!!
BSing is not the way to an A. Share you opinions dumbass. he knows what he is talking about coz he was a critic for a paper in LA. just take notes, share your thoughts, do the easy ass essays and your set

He's great at what he does, and he's always there when you need help. He likes to make a lot of jokes too, and he's very easy to get along with. Best thing about him, I would have to say, is that he doesn't talk down to you, he talks to you.
A very easy and straight forward class. Just participate and it's an easy "A"!!!!

Mr.Nichols is the tightest teacher at Evergreen! He's laid back...real...and he know's what he's talking about!! I miss his class!!
MR. NICHOLS IS SUPER COOL. I HAD HIM FOR FILM CLASS AND WE ALWAYS GOT TO WATCH THOSE SUPER AWESOME CLASSICAL/CONTEMPORARY MOVIES THAT YOU DONT GET TO SEE ANYMORE. GOD BLESS THAT MAN!
Mr. Nichols is the kind of professor that makes you want to come and PARTICIPATE in class! He knows his subject well, and is rather enthusiastic about the students. He doesn't show up on Halloween or close to Christmas though (can't really hold that for too long against him) Even gives a ton of extra credit. Fun class!
He's a nice guy. Kinda funny and knows his movies. If you love movies then this class is perfect. You learn alot in his class but you HAVE to participate. He gives alot points if you speak up. Theres no book in his class so you save at least 50 bucks.
Mr. Nichols is a cool teacher. Great knowledge of movies and has a great teaching style. Very easy going, tests are easy. Friendly, polite, just all around a great teacher. Participate and enjoy the class. Highly recommended if you need this for your major.
Mr. Nichols was awesome! I really learned alot about the movies he showed, and I loved the class discussions because they were full of fun facts about the movie industry. You really have to love movies to take his class. I highly recommend him if you want to take his class.
if you like independent films you wont like this class. it was all about hollywood and the business side. most of the movies were cool though. he asks alot of dumb questions and wonders why no one watns to answer..then you lose points for lack of class participation. he's cool and the movies were good, but its intro to film not hollywood.
Very laid back teacher. Wide knowledge about journalism bec. of previous experience in the field. You must know current events like watch the news, or you'll get tripped up by the current events quizzes.
He likes abstract photos. Keep that in mind. He'll give you good grades, but if you want that extra props, go for the out of box shots. Very laid back guy. Funny. Easy going. But photo's not his strength, I don't think (he has a journalism background). Cool guy through, he talks to you and does not talk down to you.
Easy, just do well on tests and assignments and you'll get an A and always be artisitic in the columns.
Most of test questions are from movies and lectures. The book doesn't help A LOT but it does help a little. You gotta actually try in order to get an A. Don't get too laid back just because he's nice. Listen during his lectures.
Mr nichols is a cool guy but you have to speak up and talk alot about what u think if u r not talkative u will do bad. he gives a lot of extra credit but u have2 participate and theres no hw or book...
Super EASY and FUN class. no book required. all u do is mainly watch movies. ull need to take good notes to study for the test. class participation is a big to him so try to talk a lot. all assg. are super easy and not due till the end of semester but try to do them before hand. gives tones of extra credit. highly recommend him!!!
Eh, laidback teacher who had an exceptionally fun class. My only complaint is that I did sort of give him a bad impression towards the middle of the year, and most of the grade is dependent on whether you speak in class; and even when i did i'm sure it was less likely to be acknowledged. Anyway, I got a crappy grade in the class but did well in 3/4
This class is really interesting and fun. I learned so much about movies that I never knew before! Mr. Nichols is ok, and you have to pay extra attention to his lectures to catch all the things that will be on the test. I didn't write a few things in my notes because I didn't think they were important, but they were on the test.
Professor Nichols is great. He's very reasonable, he allows exam makeups, and is not to strict on deadlines. As long as you like media you'll like this class. Don't need the book really just take notes and study. Take him!
This is not an easy class where you watch movies all day like everyone believes. He lectures from the top of his head & doesn't write anything down so when test time comes you WILL see undiscussed material & questions only he can answer. There are a lot of essays, pop quiz's, & an in-class presentation. I regret choosing this class as an elective.
the rating below is spot on. he purposely tries to trick you on tests and yea lots of stuff on test not covered in class cause he doesnt write his lecture notes down. how is he suppose to remember what he lectured on when he makes the test? thats why his tests are always so hard cause he will ask you questions he thought he covered in class already
This class is totally fun and easy, but of you must take notes in class because he does base his test on his lectures. Don't be lazy and take notes, your in college, now be responsible. If you think this class is an easy A, your right, just 4 test(including final) 1 inclass presentation,1 film journal and your done, you will watch a couple of films that are relevent to his lectures, I LOVE THE GODFATHER....... Don't be a slacker
I got an A in his class, so I guess I shouldn't really complain... however, for a person who's call to fame is that he looks like "The Dude" from the big labowsky, he doesn't really know much about film. I literally learned nothing from this class, and I actually corrected him all the time. But overall, easy A... unless you don't participate!!!!
basically this class is all about participation. His tests are hard(4 tests)he asks trick questions, he is so picky about participating in class discussions. You turn in a film journal at the end of the semester, and there is one presentation. Not an easy A like people say, If you take his class do everything from the syllabus as soon as possible!
He is a great teacher. But to get an A you need to participate by raising hand. Also there are extra credit.no homework.
Such a fun class, he exaplins the movies in detail recomend the class big time!!really approachable for help
The DUDE. Nuff said. He knows his films. Class about movies, the history of movies, and all about the film industry.
Good guy. Good teacher. Has Journalism experience (wrote for a newspaper) and has much wisdom to offer. Not a crazy amount of homework and the tests are very straightforward. Sometimes a little critical and rude, but it seems unintentional. Best textbook I've ever used in a college course.
I was so excited to take this class, until I actually did. Nichols is not helpful, he doesn't teach you anything. I learned everything from my book and manual. He was on his phone half the time. He was no help at all. All quizzes and midterm are from the book. He hasn't bothered to change the test in God knows how long. Don't take.
terrible guy,his projects are hard, and he grades not easy at all although this class just beginning photography. Usually, he grades B on student projects. We dont have chance to choose another professor because he is only one who teaches BEGINNING PHOTOGRAPHY. Good Luck :D
Deceptively tough course. His tests are difficult and tricky. Most flunked his second test. The final was okay since we were allowed to use our notes. I'd recommend taking another general ed course like Music 092. No text was assigned. He is funny at times, but we were not laughing during the tests.
His beginning photo class is very fun the equipments you will need is purchased on your own. In this class he will teach you how to develop your film and pictures, over all a very fun class super easy teacher most test is done from book chapters. If you didn't missed a day of class you get to skip the final.
Pretty good, easy class. Always tried to stress reading the text book, but I literally never did and just studied from notes. A lot of what he taught was slightly opinion based to me, which was sometimes annoying. But overall interesting, easy, worth taking.
Good teacher, emphasizes what you should know. Just take good notes, read them before the test and you will do well. First couple tests were hard, but he makes them easier.
Mr. Nichols's class for Theat-40 is an easy, no textbook and hardly no homework. Not a class for a shy person though, participation is very important
He lets us watch a bunch of movies. Does the lecture before the test. He thinks he discusses all. The test are completely different from what he emphasizes during the lectures. No textbook. So you have no idea where his basis is. Did everything what he says. He laughssmirks whenever you ask "stupid" question. He assumes you know everything.
Great teacher! Loved all the movies he showed. PARTICIPATION IS A MUST. Overall a great class, I am a movie lover so it was definitely interesting to learn all aspects of film.
Such a good teacher! Participation is a must. Taking good notes are also key to passing the class! He doesn't assign a textbook for the course and lets you use your notes during the tests. Overall a great course.
His class is super easy and fun. Learned lots about the film industry. Open note tests (5 in total). Watch lots of movies in class. Funny. SUPER nice. Some papers - but he is a super easy grader and they're only 1-2 pages long (gives them ahead of time). LOTS AND LOTS of ex credit. DEFINITELY recommend this class. NO TEXTBOOK. :)
He is a wonderful teacher he allows you to makeup test, and he gives a lot of extra credit his class is very easy and fun!
I have never in my entire life loved a class so much. I had him for both film and journo and I would always look forward to it! Everyday I learned something new and interesting. His lectures are lively and filled with knowledge. Tests are easy if you take good notes. Keep everything in your binders! I STRONGLY recommend you take this class!!!!!!!!!
I just completed 2016 intersession. Prof Nichols is a great teacher. He doesn't require textbook, gives lots of extra-credit opportunities, requires students participation, hates when students are distracted on their phones or computers. He provides study guides and goes over the test to make sure all students understand everything.
Not a class for introverts!
Mr. Nichols is super fun! He is helpful when you ask and make sure to speak and participate in class discussions. He is very genuine. I enjoyed his film class.
Don't take Theater 40 with Nichols unless you enjoy participating A LOT. Some of the tests questions were not even in the lecture and his grading rubric is very sketchy. I'm an A student, take good notes and yet I don't get how I received C's on my Tests. Lots of extra credit opportunities but not enough to boost your grade up. I don't recommend.
Awesome class and Mr Nicols is super cool
Mr. Nichols is a solid teacher - yes you will have to participate. It's a film studies class, what else do you expect? Show up to class and take solid notes - he pretty much outlines exactly what's going to be on the test well in advance, and then teaches it in class, and then puts it on the test. Raise your hand!
you need to participate here. This is an intro to film class, it should be easy, if you are into movies and the history behind them and how they are made, how can you not participate and be bored. Take notes and participate. If you are not into movies/film and dont like to participate in class might be bad for you. easy going teacher. show up.
I can't tell if I took a real class or not. This syllabus was all over the place and the tests feel like they were taken from a movie trivia game. The lectures don't really have anything to do with the movies. You watch movies but I'm not exactly sure what educational value most of them had. No actual film theory was taught.
make sure you take really really good notes and go over the study guide really well because he never covers everything in class thats on the test. his tests will be pretty hard if you don't study. also we do watch a lot of good movies.
Take this professor easy A no doubt about it
This class is honestly an easy A. The only reason I got a B is because I didn't participate. You write a few essays and have a few tests but for the most part you watch movies. Write everything he says and writes on the board during lecture because the tests are all based on lecture
He is really nice and caring. He will give you extra credit if you doing well on your assignments. His photography class is relaxing and fun
All and all I think hes an easy going teacher but Im usually an A student and got a B in the class. This class is all about how fast you can write notes while he speaks so u better push through even if your hand starts to cramp. A good percentage of class however was watching movies and that was fun and he picks pretty good movies.
Awesome professor. I only wish to be able to tell him that I am sorry for cheating and betraying his trust.
I took this class in intercession for credits. Easy teacher. He could be rude at times. All we really did was watch films and movies. Make sure to take good notes. If you want credits I suggest you take this class especially for intercession.
I took him for intersection Theater 04-introduction to film (Spring 2021) everything was SUPER EASY class and Very simple. Well organized and Interesting and his super chill. Take him!
Took him for JOUR10 & THEAT40 for Summer/Fall. You must take good notes from his lectures because they will be used on tests, the only downfall is the zoom classes are not recorded so you must attend to not fall behind. The lectures are easy to follow and I never felt bored. I enjoyed taking his class twice and highly recommend for anyone to take
I really enjoyed taking this class. He gave interesting lectures on the history of mass media and how it has changed over time. You must attend class and take very good notes as there are no handouts. The tests were separated by modules of TV, music, advertising, and photography. Tests are based on lectures. Participation is a must.
Prof. Nichols was so great! I really enjoyed his intro to film class which was online. Everything was laid out clearly in Canvas, assignments were interesting and enjoyable, and I appreciate the quick grading. If you do the work and turn it in on time, you won't have any problems getting a good grade. I would highly recommend this class!
Not gonna lie I took this class because I thought it would be an easy GE. He knocked points off my assignments and I had to spend 300 dollars on a camera and equipment. It was really stressful and hard to learn how to process film. Don't take this class unless you really want to learn photography. He gave me an A for the final grade though.
Really easy class. All the tests are open notes, untimed, and can be left at any point. The hardest part of the class was the assignments, mainly cause I was too lazy to watch the movies. He takes away a lot of points from the assignment if you get something wrong.
I got a B when I am normally straight A's, but I do not think that is because he is a difficult grader. I think its because he is an honest one and wants you to push yourself to take great photos, and could tell when I grabbed a quick shot to just have something to turn in. When I didn't get a great grade, I knew exactly why. Easy class if you try!
This teacher is good for the most part, he has interesting lectures, shows amazing movies, and gives easy homework. However, his tests are insanely difficult as many questions aren't covered in lectures or study guides. If you are looking to pass with an A, don't take this class. I was one of the top students and still couldn't get one.
