this guy is a F@$^@$(*ng idiot his lectures made no sense his test were not hard but you have nowhere near enough time to complete them 1/3 of the class dropped by week 2 and another 6 befoe the w period ended worst teacher i have ever had
Wants you to take personally responsibility for your education. What a load of C*$#!
This Bozo expects students to study 8 - 10 hours each week just for his class. Yeah, right!
Terrible instructor. Avoid if you can...
Ralh is not that bad, If youre in precal you should not expect an easy class anyway. Ralph thouroughly prepares you for calculus and higher mathematics, his exams are all compiled of earlier tests and quizes, some even had the same exaxt question, he even drops the lowest one, so its not that hard..
he makes things clear and repeats terms so we dont forget he lets you know where you stand in the class and what you need to get on the final to pass. his jokes kind of suck but hes really nice and approachable
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He doesn't review for anything and ALEKS IS A waste of time. Goes to fast and expects you to know everysingle math concept from high school. BAD TEACHER !!!!!!
I love math... I hate Tippins. The class isn't really that hard as long as you ignore what Tippins says. I am annoyed that he takes off point for not following directions when he doesn't even follow his own directions. & he is too slow we are always behind schedule.
Tippins is awesome-- a real mathematician. He's very structured-- the way a math class should be. If you don't want to put in the work, you shouldn't be in PreCalculus anyway. Really nice guy, and his tests and quizzes are challenging. It's too bad he doesn't teach above PreCalculus right now, I wouldn't mind taking him for Calculus I and onward.
Prepares you for Calculus. I don't like Aleks or having to write out the directions on the homework, but he knows his stuff and has a really funny sense of humor. I would take him again. Don't expect a cakewalk, though. (you shouldn't if you're taking a Calculus sequence anyway)
This man is anal retentive. I agree with the third student. This man takes off points for not doing things his way, even if you came up with the right answer. He is unhelpful and does the bare minimum to help you pass the class. You're better of taking a Distance Ed class, than take this guy. Don't say I didn't warn you!
This man is very funny. The homework is a little extreme because he makes you copy down the directions for no reason. Aleks is pretty stupid too. (2 hours per week expected) On the other hand, he drops your lowest test score, two lowest quizzes and 2 lowest homeworks.(basically freebies) I didn't even have to take the final. Recommended overall.
even though i got an A... I HAD To work my ass off for it. DO NOT TAKE MR TIPPINS. ONE OF THE WORST TEACHERS at CITRUS... actually he is the worst..
Excellent teacher. Just do your part. Fun and Challenging.............pretty funny guy.
I'd like to factor his trinomial ... :-)
Very easy! Just do the homework. Buy a solutions manual! Make sure you do Aleks. Lots of ways to drop bad scores. Wierd guy but not a bad teacher.
What a sweetheart!
he's a really funny guy. there was never a class day where he was dull/boring. no matter how sleepy people got in class, he still taught with enthusiasm. at 1st his class was hard b/c he's so picky, but at the end it's really easy. what's great about his class is that all his test are comprehensive from beginning to end so the final is the easiest
This guy is a good teacher..he really knows his stuffs...but he's quite picky in the way of grading...u have to do things certain ways he expects u to. I thought this class was a bit tough for me..but I have learned alot from his class..so..take him if u want to learn and really understand MATH! he's really organized!!
He hasn't taught me anything in this class. I'm getting by in this class with a B thanks to my brother and friends who were willing to help me out. All we do is go to lab and work on this stupid ALEKs program that doesn't do a good job in explaining the problems. I think he should spend more time teaching his students and less time organizing.
I learned so much from Mr. Tippins. I would recomend him. He explains things well and is willing to help you out when you need it. Just study your past quizzes and tests and you will do well.
Mr. Tippins is a master at his craft. His tests and quizzes are very fair. He also makes complex problems simple with his experience. His personality is def. unique and his jokes are comedy; yes we laugh in a math class!I could go on but it wont seem authentic. Take Tippins.
He doesn't go over the problems with us in class, all we do is spend time in the lab and work on the aleks program and basically teach ourselves how to do math. I have to admit is very organize, but i rather him spend more time going over the math problems with us. If you are one of those person who needs the teacher to go over the steps, don't tak
I took this class online and I got an A. The entire class is on this system called Aleks. So you don't have to buy a book which makes it cheaper. I recommend writing down all the problem (with answers) as you are going through the Aleks system, then for tests you have all the problems in front of you! It worked for me...
Do not take this teacher. I have taken Riderer (Trig) and Nguyenhuu (150), both of which I highly recommend. Although Tippins is a nice guy, he simply is not a skilled teacher. He does not prepare lectures...He goes through about 3 HW examples every class and has a flare for digression. If you can learn independently, great, don't expect to in clas
I was really nervous about taking this class and struggled. Prof Tippins is extremely accessible. The class is a bit tough, but he is vey good at supplying you with helpful hints to make it easier. He gets back to you immediately with any issues you may have. I ended up with an A+ and didn't have to take the final.
If you can finish all your homework by the quiz, his quiz and exam will be so easy. Get A in his class is not so hard.
well.. he is the worst teacher i've ever met in my entire life(that is the only thing i can talk about him)
one of the worst teachers i have ever had. he goes through very few examples in a 2 hour class and is so slow i wana fall asleep. cant stand him regret ever taking him. he marks you down for every single tiny mistake.
He is the worst teacher.dont take his class!!!!!!!!
His class is not fun at all. at all!!
He is kinda of a strict person. he expects everything from the book to be copied. and he is really picky about small mistakes on the quizzes and tests. he grades kinda hard. but he is an awesome instructor he doesn't give a huge amount of homework. listen to what he says and you'll be ok. know the difference betweet, solution set, points, and zeros
This professor is an extremely thorough professor, which is good for some, but extremely boring for others. He is, however, a stickler for format on homework and exams. He wants every small tiny thing done correctly. Just be careful, put some effort, and you should be more or less fine. But precalc students, take Scott... He's EAZY!!!
His class is alright, but he's very picky on homework and tests. The ALEKS program is stupid. Take professor Scott if you are taking pre-calc.
Absences due to military duty and a dying grandfather would have failed me no matter how well I did. If you have attendance issues due to work/military/family, he does not care. Drops students for folding the homework wrong. Drops students arbitrarily and notifies them by email. If you didn't get the email but show up for class, he won't tell yo
Mr Tippins is a really good teacher. he really care about the tiny things.that's good for us to prepare in high level Maths. As long as you finish the works..you will be OK..if you want to study maths, take him.if you want to get a easy grade, take others...Thanks Mr.Tippins..
I really like the way Mr.Tippins teach. It help me review the math I study before, his lecture really organize. his test ia really fair.As long as you finish your work. you are be fine.I really enjoy been his class. it is a great time.Thanks..V
If you take his stats class online, I have a few tips. The first would be NOT to take this class online! But if you must, buy the book, take detailed notes from the ALEX explanations (which suck) take the quizzes over and over till you get all the questions right and learn from what you got wrong. It can be done, but it is not easy.
I love Mr. Tippins' style of teaching. Alot of people are probably going to say his picky about format. This does not make him a bad teacher! Just do what he wants the way he wants it. His tests are definitely easier as far as other math classes go. Using the ALEKS program online is a pain but clears up class time that would otherwise be review.
For me, the ALEKS program that Mr. Tippins uses was really frustrating. It was like paying for extra work and it really wasn't helpful to me at all. I don't know how many hours I spent each week on this class, but I think it was verging on 20. He didn't give us enough time on the final. The homework is unreal and he doesn't care about his students.
Mr Tippins is a teacher who is extremely finnical with what he wants a student to present in their work. It becomes more of a habit in writing in the distinctive way he wants you to, rather than understanding the material itself. He is unfair and does not show any care of success for his students!!
Tippins is VERY picky about howework format, very organized, very intelligent. However, he teaches and speaks to his class like a kindergarten teacher with very slow lectures. He gives insane amounts of written and online homework. He does not use a textbook which leaves no reference outside of his notes. You must dedicate 15+ hours for this class.
This professor was one of the hardest I have ever had then again this was my freshman year. He is very organized but too picky with the responses you put on the test. They have to reflect what he taught you. His homework is easy but it is long and his Aleks program is not very helpful. If you do your work you should pass. He is a genius.
He relies on ALEKS to teach the students, never any written work. Math is my major, but he has been able to make it the least interesting thing ever! The way he speaks is like a pre-school teacher and his teachings never correlate with ALEKS. If I had known I would have not chosen his class.
Took MATH 165 online for SPR '10 semester. Class is 100% relied on Aleks. The Aleks site doesn't include the text, but the examples are good enough so textbook is unnecessary. He WON'T let you make up an exam, NO EXCUSES. Be prepared for that! However, he is very generous with grading. Lots of dropped points from hw, weekly hrs, and exam. Got a B.
Very easy online math class if you do the Aleks work. Easy A.
Do not take his class. Try to take someone else, even if it means waiting a semester. He relies on ALEKS(annoying computer program) way too much and lecture goes slow cause he talks to his students like they are idiots. Save your time and money and be taught by a real teacher.
By far the worst math class I have ever had. Lecture lasts forever because he is so boring, and talks to students like they're idiots. He relies on stupid ALEKS, which doesn't really explain things in detail, and it is extremely picky. Never any written work turned in except for exams. He doesn't grade like a normal teacher. I think he is lazy.
If you can spend 2 hours a week doing homework online this is your guy. everything is online which is awesome! hes pretty boring but i get the material and i got an A
The test were extremely easy and the hw is excactly like the test. the aleks program he uses makes the class soooooo easy. I got an A on all the test and i didnt have to take the final because i did good in the class
The test were extremely easy and the hw is excactly like the test. the aleks program he uses makes the class soooooo easy. I got an A on all the test and i didnt have to take the final because i did good in the class.... he was just EXTREMELY BORING i left class like 4 times and was absent twice
his class IS very boring, but very helpful cuz he takes any lil thing with itsy bitsy steps & w/ lots of explanations. he gets really into explainin things in a deep level. he uses ALEKS. first time ever using ALEKS & love it. it doesnt coincide w/ what he teaches but is a great website to stay on track w/ work due. easy A. great professor. :)
Really did NOT enjoy this class. 4 hours a week just in lecture. All of the homework was online. He relies HEAVILY on the ALEKS program, which is not very forgiving.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had the misfortune to encounter at Citrus. He is super boring, his lectures are useless, he is beyond unreasonable with his grading - even right answers are wrong if not answered in a specific way. I underestimated the bad ratings on this site, don't make my mistake. DON'T TAKE HIM if you possibly can help it!
Lazy when it comes to assigning homework. Boring to listen to. Foolishly stubborn when it comes to doing homework his exact way. This guy needs to get out of the dark ages and read the writing on the wall... it reads, "Your specific way of doing things doesnt work for everyone, grab a dictionary and look up the word flexibility then get some!"
Very straight forward, very lecture based. Cal 2 is a hard class so it doesn't matter what teacher you have, but he was very clear and organized. Each test was cumulative and fair. So like every class, if you study enough and practice you will get an A. but when i mean practice... i mean PRACTICE!!!
He was a good teacher. Just like any serious subject, you must study. He was also one of the most funny people I have ever met. His humor is subtle and golden.
TERRIBLE teacher.Be warned,he has no interest in helping his students pass,he constantly threatens students with dropping them from the class. If you want a teacher that can help you understand math and how to do it, Ralph Tippins is not for you.I only enrolled in his class because nothing else was open, BIG MISTAKE!
His lectures are ridiculously boring, and is super picky about the solutions on the test. Does not really use the book for reference just goes on a tangent and expects to do it the way he wants you to BEWARE the WORST
I got a really high A in this online statistics class. But this does not mean it was easy. I spent close to 100+ hours doing the 10 assignments, 5 exams, 5 assessments, and pie work. Everything is on ALEKS. Many problems are very advanced and can take an hour just to learn how to do 1 problem. Hard class for a beginner but Aleks explains well.
The professor would spend the whole class time reviewing one to three homework problems from the night before. He does not collect homework and the grade is only quiz and test scores.
I took the online course during Spring 2013 and passed with a B. If you take it online, you'll be using ALEKS for everything. The class is NOT easy. I spent about 60 hours a week just to pass. If you need to pass this class make sure you have TONS of time, unless you're a math guru, you won't survive on spending a few hours a week in the program.
Only take him if Pre-Calc is the last math you have to take. And if you have any homework questions, ask him in his office or ask a fellow student. If you ask him in class, he will spend the majority of class doing the problem and you won't go over ht new stuff. He requires you to do the math and write the answers his way, and only his way.
Very straight forward professor. His class can be boring at times, but he has got a great sense of humor. Just study the notes he gives you cause we rarely used the textbook. Quizzes and tests are easy if you study. Awesome professor!
He is THE WORST teacher. he is soo boring and you get marked down even if you have the right answer but not his way. the harshest grader when it comes to that. save yourself, do not take him.
Don't take his class......not clear at all in explaining. Don't waste your time
His teaching style is hard to understand even for people who are typically good at math
You basically have to teach yourself the material. His lectures Involve a few examples of each chapter but it doesn't really help when you go back and try to do your homework on your own . Grades consists of test and quizzes only. If u cannot learn the material by reading the book alone you will not pass this class.
His lectures are a bit dry, mainly consisting of going over homework problems. He assigns a lot of homework but doesn't make you turn it in; your grade consists entirely of tests and near-weekly quizzes. His grading is strict but leaves reasonable room for error. Be prepared to study on your own a lot, and don't miss class much or he'll drop you.
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE COURSE. It's through ALEKS, which is a terrible program. It teaches you nothing and expects you to answer questions right away; and answer the same question 6 more times correctly to get credit for it. He doesn't respond to e-mails. Retaking this class on campus with an actual professor who cares about their students!
I AM BEGGING YOU, DO NOT TAKE HIM!! HE WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE A LIVING HELL!! An inconsistently nit-picky grader: he doesn't care if you get the answers right, he'll take off points everywhere for any cockamamie reason (ex. he doesn't like the way your work is arranged). Unorganized and worthless lectures, I had to teach myself everything at home.
This was my first difficult college class I've ever had. Mr. Tippins is a great guy, don't get me wrong, and the way he gives lectures is great. The problem is that he gives us homework, but we get no credit for it so most students won't have the motivation do even do it. Make sure to study for the tests, because they are EXTREMELY difficult.
He changed his grading from last semester. If he's testing this out, I sure would be unhappy to know I'm a test subject. So even if you turn in all the work with A's, you'll still get -100 pts (0%) if you didn't spend 4 hours+ on the homework a week. He literally relies on the program to determine that. He expects 16-20 hourswk to be successful.
Took this class online for winter semester. After about 45 mental breakdowns and hours of homework and studying got an A. ALEKS program is what teaches you, very helpful. 10 assignments, 5 exams, 5 assessments, and pie work. Glad it's over..
He's one of the best math professors, I enjoyed his class and I would take him again, do not skip any lecture and do homework before the new section starts. he is very patient and he goes over previous material again, I enjoy math and I really learned a lot from his class, straight forward lectures you will do well in the class if you do hw.
He is honestly so boring, I always found myself having a difficult time staying awake in class. I feel like his lectures are all over the place and I'd constantly find myself lost or just distracted by something else because he'd lose my attention. I never knew what was going to be on tests, he doesn't give out study guides or review before tests.
Homework/ test / quiz / exam, , these take about three hours to do. These will be DUE regularly, three times a week. I've never given so much work for one class in my life. This class made me want to quit college. Seriously.
One of the better math teachers at Citrus. I was scared to take Trig, but his class format made it very simple to understand. He hands out worksheets that he designs his lectures around. I never did the homework because it wasn't mandatory, though it would've been helpful. This class is based largely on memorization.
Tough class, but that's mainly because math has never been my strongest subject. He provides enough help, one must be willing to put in the work. Focus, study and you should pass.
Very monotone. Lectures are straight forward but a tad hard to stay awake especially at 9 am. The homework directly relates to the test which are fairly easy. (Homework is optional and NO calculators)
Make sure you finish all the assignments, tests are fine, they all on the homework. Take it if you like spend time with homework!
I had the toughest time in his class to be honest. I went to the tutoring center everyday for help on stuff that i knew how to do. I honestly thought all the concepts were really easy and i understood everything but i kept getting F's because it wasn't the way he would do the problem.... i seriously do not recommend him. He does not give homework.
Very detailed teacher. If you love to math, you're gonna love this teacher.
I took Mr Tippins 2 years ago, now that I finished math for my engineering major I can tell you that his class and teaching method are one of the main reason for my success in math classes , Trig is fundamental for calculus (1,2,3) and physics, if you do well in his class you ll be fine, do all the HW as it touches all the possibles Qs on the exam
Class relied heavily on the use of ALEKS, which is really not that complicated to use. This class is good if you are self motivated to stay on top of the homework. The instructions are very clear but if you can't keep up you are going to have a tough time.
SO MUCH WORK. But not difficult to get an A if you keep on top of everything. Spent 90 hours on the ALEKS site, which is absurd but I got a solid A. Exams are similar to the hw problems so nothing to be worried about if u take notes. Didn't try contacting him so idk how helpful he is, but I never needed to reach him for anything. & 8% extra credit
He dropped me from his online class. I was having trouble getting into canvas. I contacted the help desk for helping logging into canvas. By the time I got help from the help desk (it took 5 days to fix my issue) I was dropped. I tried to explain this to Mr. Tippins. He didn't care and refused to re-add me. He doesn't care about his students.
I took the online summer class which used the Aleks program. Cost of Aleks was very affordable, and there was a two-week trial period so you can see if you like it first. Class was very time consuming since it was the short summer term, but still very doable. Work ahead! Professor Tippins was excellent at promptly responding to my emails.
Doesn't teach at all Worst professor in my experience Assigns you to do everything online Doesn't instruct you at all
Does not teach at all and does not care if we do not understand the material. Has a super boring voice and is not energetic, you will fall asleep. All work is done online.
I took Professor Tippin's Math 165 class during the last 12 weeks of the spring semester. He uses ALEKS which is fairly priced. Each week consists of doing assignments and tests. There is one exam that is at the end of the class. As long as you're on top of your work, you should be able to pass the class.
I missed an exam to see my mother in the hospital, sent him an email 2 days prior and never responded. He gave me a zero and refused to let me make it up. My grade dropped from a 96 to a 42 and I went in to ask what I could do to make it better and he pretty much shrugged his shoulders. Left class mid lecture to withdraw.
Unless you eat, sleep, and breathe statistics and are genuinely good with math I would not recommend taking professor Tippin's class. Homework was manageable - not easy but manageable and his exams were awful. He also has a really boring lecture and you will want to fall asleep - never answers emails. I would not recommend him to anyone struggling.
I don't know what everyone's upset about. This is a great class to take if you enjoy high-stress levels. I mean sure, the assigned program punishes you for minor mistakes. Other than that, I think this was a great class to take. Sarcasm aside; mathway, emath, and omnicalculator are your friends.
Before professor Tippins class, I failed statistics three times. I emailed him to let him know I would do my best to pass the class. I studied for eight hours a day. As a result, I earned an A. You need to work hard. There is no other trick to it
throughout this class we used ALEKS which is a math website. it shows you how to do the math problems and there are also math YouTube videos made by the ALEKS website so those are very helpful. throughout the course I started to fall behind and professor realized and messaged me letting me know which was pretty cool. overall this was a great class
Do not get me wrong, Professor Tippins knows how to teach but he is boring. So many students would leave in the middle of class some students didn't even show up. He will keep showing you math examples until class time was over and it got annoying. Not much work. He also makes you pay for a website that is like $90.
Worse Professor ever, does not work with you at all.
