shes a pretty good teacher and goes over the material that is going to be on the test. she gives you a slide list so that you know what to focus on and a study guide before every test. shes pretty kool, but the only downfall is that you need to know dates/periods! but anyways shes overall a good teacher
She is REALLY great teacher! Very intellegent, encourages discussions, answers all questions, provides interesting information. Some extra credit opportunity. You have to work hard though to get good grade, but this is the nature of this subject
Awesome teacher! Really cares about her subject and students. Prepare to do some work, but her enthusiasm and great personality make it a lot of fun. Highly recommended.
LOVED THIS CLASS! Got an A. Just make an outline for each chapter. Get with at least 3 people and each of you can do an outline and just know the slide lists for the test and you'll be fine! This class just takes a little effort to make notes for yourself. :)
i had her for art 103 and she was an excellent teacher who cared a lot about her students. if you have any trouble at all, she is always more than willing to help or explain the materials further. she is a great teacher!
I took Art 101 with her. She is a nice person and a helpful teacher, but art 101 is not an easy class. You have to read the text book which is really book in order to pass the class. There is three main exams in the class and one essay. The class can be easy if you read the book and have good memory of the stuff you read.
shes boring, but shes nice. shes unorganized and a pushover so you can totally change her mind on everything. you dont need to go to class since the test is based on the book.
Honestly she is a really great teacher. She loves art therefore explains everything really well and in a fun sense and encourages everyone to speak their thoughts. You do have to read the chapters and study the slide list she gives you but if you stay on top of it you'll be fine. Take her she is really understanding and will help!
Great teacher!!I thought it was gonna be a hard class but it turn out to be fairly easy!!The test are based on class notes and the book, so yeah, you need to buy it..her study guides are really helpfull!! Take her, tha class was a lot of fun!!!
Prof Abba is a very good teacher and is always willing to meet with students outside of class, and provide further assistance out side of class. Occasionally her lectures can be a bit long and boring, but its art... She occasionally gives homework or handouts to be compleated before next class. The test Material is always In the book/ class lecture
not the easiest class, but interesting. i wouldn't say shes a fair grader, you get what you get. if you were close to the next grade by a few points, she wouldn't give it to you. so good luck studying your butt off.
EASY. 5 tests which usually consist of 30 MC questions and 1 short essay. Lowest score is dropped at the end. As long as you use your slide list while reading the book(yes, you have to read the book) you'll do great. Trust me, I got an A. She really loves teaching Art History and she does her job well. Does offer some extra credit.
I'm glad I took Abbamontian's class in particular because I got a lot out of it. She is an easy professor because she is so well spoken and articulate in her lectures and the study guide is very helpful. She enjoys what she does and encourages feedback from the class that gets lively discussions going. Highly recommended.
Such an amazing class-i took her and loved her class. She is so helpful with her study guides and shows that she really wants to help her students succeed. I got a B-Class is easy as long as you lsiten to her lectures-The quiz is all in her lectures
Wow great teacher! One of my favorite so far at pierce. Very helpful. She also gives some EC. I enjoyed this class and she is very passionate about art history and it shows! highly recommended but do not take this class lightly! You will have to put some time in it!
Good lord.. Had to drop her class twice because I couldn't keep up with all of my other classes. Too many projects and group work. Trick questions on tests. Fun class, But otherwise, don't take it if you're even slightly lazy.
very nice teacher very helpful if your major is art take her if not just take a music class for art credit you would have to study a lot to get a good grade she gives extra credit
Loved her!!! The most helpful and comprehensive prof. I've ever had. EVERYTHING you need to know about the class is in the syllabus. Chose her over the other art professors. She knows more and if she doesn't know the answer she'll look it up and email you it!
If you have PASSION for art, take her. If you like to work hard and read a lot, take her. If you want an 'A', DON'T TAKE HER!
She is a very sweet person and a good teacher.Unlike many teachers at pierce who seem to hate their job She is very helpful and actually likes teaching. The class is not hard if you actually show up for lectures and do your homework. If you are too lazy to attend lectures or study take another class.
Prof. Abbamontian is a great art history teacher. she really knows what she is talking about. you really need to read the textbook to pass her tests. take notes on what she says in class. her tests are pretty fair. great teacher.
Her class is very laid back. Her tests are hard though. Must read book and memorize various artworks to pass tests.
awesome teacher.. she seems really happy about teaching art history and her enthusiasm infects the class. have to attend every class , but the class room is pretty laid back so its actually relaxing!! you have to read the text book because most of her questions are from it. there is also a museum visit and lots of other extra credit.
She's fairly easy, hardly uses the book, but is a bit strict on deadlines. She's easy going on quality of work done though, you don't have to try too hard.
She's a really great teacher. Take her! The class is a bit hard. You really have to read the book and study. You really don't have to attend class, but she notices if your absent alot. Its a really relaxing class though. Just go, its fun, you meet a lot of nice people.
She is very helpful. She knows what she is talking about its her passion. Very helpful.
She made me fall in love w/the subject matter. Her lust for life and art is so infectious! I couldn't wait for the next class to get the chance to discuss and ask?'s about the art. Each class was like going back to ancient times--it was a great escape. Was so sad when it ended. Worked hard on learning the material but it opened up a whole new world
She inspires me and makes the class extremely interesting. Love her!
Stay away!!! She is by far the worst teacher that I have ever had. Her tests are impossible because she doesn't cover any of the material in class. Grading on assignments is ridiculously harsh. This teacher doesn't know how to manage class time. The final is worth 30% of the grade and if you're in the bottom 3 groups to present, you probably won't.
Amazing teacher! She forces her students to actually look deep into the artwork and give their opinions of what it means to them. She is very clear during lectures and even requires for students to post study tips and sample questions to help their classmates for the test. She provides a slide list so you know what to study and what you don't. Yah!
She is great professor. I would better warn you that lots of reading are required to pass all of the tests for better grades. I would suggest you to review random student's questions for evey exam and as well as her study guides.Little bit hard, but it was fun class especially Getty Assignments. I got "B" in this class, but it was not an easy "B".
very interesting!!!!!!!!! if you study and pay attention you def. will pass with an easy A, lots of extra credit
Professor Abbamontian is one of the greatest professors I've encountered so far. She's clear in presentation & wants to help out her students in every way possible. Attend all lectures &catch up on the readings--you can't expect to earn a good grade with lax habits!
She is a great teacher. You can tell she loves what she does. Lecture all class but it is interesting. Tests are kind of hard but if you study they're fine. one museum visit and write up. I enjoyed her class and would take another with her.
she is by far the best teacher i have had at pierce. i hate art and can't draw and we all know that you need an art class for general ED. she opened my eyes and even though i suck at drawing, i still consider myself an artist... She is an excellent teacher, study and you will definitely get an A... lots of extra credit so no excuses
the material is alright, but shes simply the best. if i had to another art, i would take her again
SHE IS A SWEETHEART I LOVE HER!!! haha she cares for all her students and loves what she is teaching. I got an A but i made sure i studied. If you pay attention in class, studying will be easy and not a long time because you'll remember from class. ALOT OF XTRA CREDIT! Loved this class and appreciated cultures from art pieces much more! RECOMMNED!!
Great Class. Best teacher at Pierce. Very understanding. UCLA Grad +++
This professor is by far, my favorite! She makes lectures interesting, and a bit fast-paced because of tremendous materials in the chapters you have to go through, but she is quite helpful if you have questions. You have to put in a lot of studying time and going to the classes, taking notes helps getting a good grade look easy!
She is a very sweet lady. She uses the text book a lot so make sure you get it. Also, go to class everyday because the notes are essential for the test!! She will help you pass though
Best teacher at pierce. The work isnt easy but she is very clear on what will be on the test. offers a lot of extra credit. as long as you show up and pay attention you will do fine.
This teacher is amzing, she with her LOVE for art has sparked an interest in art. Especially from days of old. She loves her job and it is expressed in the way she teaches her class. Recommend it to anyone, especially people who care less about the arts
She's nice, cool, and tries as hard as she can to make the students succeed. and no reason not to get an A if you do the work! She the homie
Really sweet lady! She is very passionate about art and tries very hard to help out her students as much as possible! Gives numerous extra credit opportunities! Just pay attention in class and take good notes! Exams are fairly easy except essay part. You need to make sure you have enough to write or points off! Highly recommend her!!
Amazing professor! One of my favorites at Pierce. Very intelligent in the arts and an extremely sweet lady. Had no prior interest in the class, yet it still was very interesting to me. She gives study guides for all the test that help ALOT! LOTS of extra credit opportunities and the test are fairly straight forward. HIGHLY recommend her!
When she asked us to attend 12 workshops for extra credit, as well a separate extra credit, also that doing more extra credit will will you points on every test, it looked like it was a lot of extra credit, but hey, It wasnt that bad and you know what, I actually got an A in her class. I attended every single class, did the homework! Take her!
Professor Abbamontian is Amazing! She's very clear on what she wants, take good notes on everything she talks about. It was a fun class, sit in the front & participate. Go to the Workshops they do help. The tests are easy if you study. Also, you must be active on Moodle she's big on the forum questions & some quizes were online.NERD IT UP! TAKE HER :)
Prof. Abbamontian is the best. If anyone finds her insufferable and boring it's most likely because they are lazy and disrespectful. The material may not be for everyone, but it's up to you if you want to make the best out of it. I relate everyday things back to this class constantly. Learned so much and I thank her for being so encouraging.
She is great! I wasn't interested in the subject but she made the class really enjoyable. The tests are straight forward. She gives study guides that are so helpful. Take notes, read the book, study the guides and you'll get an A. Not easy, but not hard. She gives extra credit EVERY exam. TAKE HER!!!!
BEST PROFESSOR! do yourself a favor and take this class! her class is a breath of fresh air to the rest of the schedule! just read the book, take the notes go to the villa and you will succeed in this class
She isn't boring and enjoys teaching. 3 tests and LOTS of extra credit. If you take good notes and study then you'll pass. Museum visits and tests make up for the grade.
Her lectures are interesting and she talks really fast. The museum visits are mandatory but they are worth attending for the great experience. I barely used the book. Just take good notes and you'll pass the class.
This teacher is amazing. I enjoyed comming to class and learning the materials. The class consist of three test plus the final and lots of extra credits were offered which raises your grade by a ton. I also enjoyed the museam assignment. This class is enjoyable and the teacher is very nice. She care about her students and their grades. Take her
This teacher is amazing, I enjoyed the class a lot. The class was very fun and had consisted of three test and a final plus lods of extra credit which helps raise the grade. I also enjoyed the museam assignment as I was a great experience. The teacher cares for her students and about their grades. Take her. Thank you Professor, Abbamontrian
Amazing PROFESSOR! you walk away with a knowledge not a grade! Get well, Professor Abbamontian
She loves what she does. Probably the only art history class that gives this much work, but you just gotta get it done! Pretty easy tests if you just print out and take good notes.
Powerpoint lecture so take notes and also listen to what she says. You need to know detail about the art pieces and their meanings. She does give extra credit but it's a small percentage, still helps your grade. The museum visit is mandatory especially if you want to pass. She also keeps you updated on your grade throughout the semester. She's cool
Made me interested in the art world. loved this class. she is full of knowledge.
There's a lot of info with little time to copy anything down. Highly suggest recording lectures. Museum visits. Will take weeks off of class and expect you to teach yourself. she canceled class 6 times, twice were full weeks & didn't change test dates to accommodate. I'd give her a 2/5 rating.
I had no interest in art and I still don't for the most part but her class was interesting. As long as you take good notes and listen to her study advice you should be fine. She's a very nice person and so passionate about her subject that it catches your attention. 5 tests, 2 museum visits and some homework not worth much. Easy class. Recommend.
Even though I had (and quite frankly still have) zero interest in art, her passion and excitement for the subject made her class one of my favorites. Expect to read a lot from the textbook and review your in-class lecture notes. Tests are very easy IF YOU STUDY. Always attend lectures and utilize the resources she provides (study/reading guides).
She is such an enthusiastic professor who you can definitely tell loves her job and the subject. There is a lot of material but she gives you study guides/recommended activities to help you out. Does her best to make sure everyone is understanding the material. Mentions everything you need to know for tests. Book is sort of reinforcement material.
Her lectures are very in depth and if you find the subject interesting you'll have a very good time. She also encourages her students to make the best out of their college experience. Her tests are also very easy if you pay attention and study properly. She's a great teacher to take if you want to learn or if you just need to take a required class.
she was an okay teacher she had the longest lectures eve!! she was very off topic about most things. She wanted the class to print off slide lists to follow along with her and expected everyone to know every date and little details about each chapter. She acted as if we were majoring in art history, i dropped her class because she was so boring.
I loved her class. I got a lot of info from her lectures so I didn't read the book. Although she preferred that you come to class already having read the chapter, but it was just too boring for me. She provides her students with lots of support and info about general school stuff, I loved that about her.
She is very clear in her instructions. Her lectures are easy to comprehend. Good note taking is mandatory because her tests cover most of the lecture along with pages assigned to read from the textbook.
Professor Abbamontian is a lovely professor! She really cares about each student's success. Professor A is extremely knowledgeable in Art History and you will learn a lot! It is very important to come to class everyday, print the slides, and take good notes, if you want to do well. An easy and rewarding class, if you put in a little effort. Great!
Professor Abbamontian is really a nice lady and you can tell she really cares about her students. Her tests, on the other hand, are very ambiguous. She wastes a bunch of time doing workshops and giving dumb tips and then consequently, she has to rush through the content. She will expect you to know all artists names.
Nice, passionate teacher who is more than happy to help you; clear on instructions. However, I found her attitude to be a bit condescending & it seemed like she assumed a lot of people in class were idiots. Read the textbook & take detailed notes to pass the tests, retain the information and facts that she emphasizes on during the lectures.
Dr. A is amazing! She's really passionate about her work and student success. I love how she includes "Think Tanks" as part of course work to make you think of solutions to problems such as looting and stolen artwork. Critical thinking, and anthropology overlap in her knowledge filled class. Email her if you need help! Read the text and you'll pass
She's one of the most amazing professors I've had. Doesn't give out much homework, however you still have to pay attention to what she says. Lectures are long but always clear. You cannot be absent or else you will miss out. Gives out many chances for you to pass the class, since she really cares about her students, so you must take advantage of it
Professor Abbamontian is a tough teacher as regard to as personality and belief. Dont take this class as a joke you will suffer. Expect a mandatory field trip to pass the class and it is far. I respect this professor as a person who fights to live and enjoy it. The lectures are important but she has the slides online. Her schedule is confusing.
Great and passionate professor. She has very long, but entertaining and helpful lectures. The book is important but not as key as her lectures. There are only 4 tests, and museum field trip assignment which was very easy to do. Overall the class is not to difficult if you always show up and take notes.
I have taken her for two art history classes so far and I will again. She is the best art history professor to take here at Pierce. She's kind, she cares, and she helps out. Her lectures are the best because she's so into the subject and she makes it interesting! I would recommend her over anyone every time!
A lot of homework, but the tutors make the material easier to digest. She gives some extra credit. Her lectures are straightforward just have exceptional notes to study from.
I really love to take her class very interest but she gives a lot of homework every week. she give a lot of extra credit make sure to do it cause is really help you a lot on the exam. I recommend you to record lectures so you review for the exam because all her exams are basic on the lectures so make sure to don't miss anything.
I love Prof Abbamontian! She's super sweet and caring. Has amazing lectures. Makes everyone participate. Art history can be boring but she keeps the class engaging and interesting. I learned so much in this class. I received a B but only because I rarely read the textbook. If you just learn from the lectures you can still receive a passing grade.
This class was one of my top favorites. I took her class online and her video lectures were amazing. She made it easy to understand and you can tell she is passionate about teaching art. The museum visit was the best part of the class and I would definitely take her again.
Good Professor, but very boring class. Would not recommend this class unless you are interested in art history. Took the class online for winter session. Pretty easy class. Can be an easy A if you watch the lectures. And there is a mandatory trip to the Getty museum, which is kind of annoying.
Took the online course. Don't mind reading but there are hours upon hours of recorded lectures that one must listen to. Many answers not in text book. Lots on long tests with difficult questions. Tough grader. This class brought down my GPA
Many quizzes and a few test. I enjoyed her class she was very sweet. She was always late, and its a lot of work. A side from the class she posted even more lectures online.
Enjoyed the class, there is homework due on school site. Lectures are informative.
Mrs. Abbamontian is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. She loves what she does and cares about all her students doing well. On top of that, she has inspired me to look at things with a different perspective and step outside the box and look at art differently.
do not take her online class. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't do it to yourself. pick a different class. please. please. video lectures and notes take 4+ hours a day and there's a mandatory museum field trip. and she grades ridiculously hard. she's just awful. awful. just don't take this class. don't.
I don't have much of an interest in art history but listening to her video lectures really engaged me in the history. It's actually pretty interesting, of course it won't be like that for everyone. Yes, lecture videos and note taking will take more than 5 hours. But listening to those videos will help on the test she gives as well as the quizzes.
Prof Abbamontian was clear & organized, but also extremely understanding and down to earth. Do the work, pay attention & participate in lecture, & study regularly, & you will likely do well. Attend free and helpful class tutoring for extra credit too! She makes the material interesting (there's never a dry, boring lecture. She kept us engaged).
She is organized and holds you responsible for your grade, but is also understanding and not condescending. Pay attention in class (take notes!), prepare beforehand if needed, study regularly, attend optional but free, extra credit tutoring, and its enjoyable. Her lectures are well-done, with evident enthusiasm and eloquent and organized delivery.
Her lectures are fun, engaging, and informative. Her class taught me so many skills that I've used and will continue to use in various other aspects of my life, as well as helps to open students eyes to the world and how different but also similar we all are. I can't recommend her classes enough! 3 tests, 1 museum assignment, & short&easy homeworks
I took an online class of hers, and the lectures were lengthy but interesting. She records herself talking and uploads it over relevant images in a video format. There were only a few tests and then one Museum assignment. The end assignment is important to your grade, but it's just answering questions. As long as you actually go, you'll do great!
I took her online class in the winter and I felt that the class was pretty damn easy as long as I didnt procrasinate. She is extremely kind and very invested in her students succeeding. The lectures are really long and take awhile to watch but if you watch them and take good note you will do well on the test. I left the class with over 100%
She is so sweet and passionate, but if you are busy/taking classes that you even need to study for a little bit, do not take this class. All it has done throughout this semester is stress me out, and I am good with time management. There is too much unnecessary work for this class, to the point where it becomes your life.
She's a sweet and caring prof but her class is far beyond what a 3 unit lecture should be. The fact that her syllabus is 20 pages speaks for itself. Lectures are VERY dense with a lot of info you need to study + more video lectures at home. As a 4.0 student with over 70 units, this is the hardest class I've taken. Class is very rushed, so keep up
Amazing professor! I've taken a few of her classes, and wish I could take more. Very inspirational and understanding. Great with keeping you up to date with assignments and reminders. 1 or 2 museum trips which are great! Really wants you to know the subject and reasons the pieces of art were created (which is really important!) Take her!
She is a firm believer that "you get the grade you deserve." I 100% got the grade I deserved. I was focused on other classes and could have received an A but instead got a B. Pay attention to lectures but you really don't need your book. At most, rent it. But if you pay attention to every thing she says in lecture, you don't need it. She's great.
Overall she was an ok teacher, theres a lot of lectures you have to watch which can get very boring. Also she is a bit rude when you try to email her, and doesn't tell you important information on the syllabus. She doesn't mention anything about late work so when I tried to turn something in late she was not understanding at all.
I've taken a few classes with Abbamontian and I absolutely love her. Kind, caring, passionate. She does make you work for your grade and even though I am an art major, she makes this introductory course a bit much for people that just need the credit. I can't blame her, art is amazing, but it's a bit heavy of you have other intense classes
This was an online class I took and she made it great. I would definitely recommend her, she's really accommodating, fair, and an amazing professor. I got the grade I earned.
Loved this course, though it can be a bit boring, she makes it so interesting and worth your time and money. She posts video lectures and they are so informative and interesting to watch. I had planned on getting the textbook but after seeing the preview in comparison to her posted videos, I had realized the info is very similar. Fun getty trip.
Professor Abbamontian gives a lot of work, but her lectures are where all of the information is located. I barely used the book after the first two chapters and listened to her lectures intently and ended up with a great grade. She expects a lot of work to be done, but if you listen to her lectures, print her guides and use them you will get an A
This is most probably one of the hardest online classes I have ever taken. Prof Abbamontian is a very demanding professor, she gives a lot of work and her tests are super hard. I really wish I dropped this class within the first week. For an art history class, I think this class was way harder than any other class I took which shouldn't be the case
Great professor.
Took this class online for Art102. It was very intense and overwhelming (extremely lots of reading), the projects were alright but the tests yes they are kind-of hard; besides that, I believe she is a very caring profesor and her story is inspiring.
She loves to talk about herself and her dissertation from UCLA for most of the class then tries to shove all the material of the course into the last 30 minutes of class. dont give negative feedback or she will literally go back to graded assignments and change them to manipulate your grade. keep your eye on your grade on canvas!!!!
Professor Abbamontian is a nice lady, but she needs to improve her teaching method. She lectures WAY to quickly, making it difficult to take notes, then she brags about her training at UCLA. Shes over-controlling and makes class way to complicated, which is honestly very annoying. Class is a regular history class disguised as an art history class.
(ONLINE CLASS) I loved this class. I am in high school and I was able to juggle all of my classes with this class on top of that, but I managed to do it. Manage your time and take good notes. She is a great professor and her notes are really detailed. From all of the other reviews I was not sure If I wanted to take this class, glad I did. Take her!
Professor Abbamontian was a very nice teacher. I took her online class over summer and it was relatively easy. You just need to manage your time and make sure to follow directions. The class is based around lectures, but I was still able to learn a lot. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and I would definitely take her class again.
Let me start by saying DO NOT take this class if you do not need it. Summer session is intense. This class has so much lecture videos that you need to do work everyday. Quizzes and test are tricky. She is a hard grader. If you do not analyze artwork correctly or like a professional she will deduct points.
Although there are lots of lectures, Prof. A makes it so that you don't have to read the textbook. Definitely keep up with her work and don't procrastinate! Grades are based on 4 exams, chapter quizzes, a museum trip, and 4 short writing responses. Super easy if you keep up with the work and take it seriously.
Do not take her! Shes a really hard grader and there is so much work to do. She gives you a study guide but just when you think youre good, none of those things you studied are in the tests. Lectures are way too fast! If you work full time, I dont recommend.
Many forced group activities/projects. She is at the very least somewhat caring about her students.
Professor Abbamontian is super caring and clearly loves her job. She knows the material well, but there is A LOT of it. Don't expect this to be an easy, nothing class. When our class moved online, she did an amazing job with the transition despite having to deal with family hardship. If you need art history, take her class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!!!! SHE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOUR LIFE. SHE DOES NOT TAKE ANY LATE WORK. NO MATTER WHAT. YOU COULD HAVE BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND SHOULD WOULDN'T CARE. ALL IN ALL FIND A BETTER TEACHER.
I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT PRO. ABBAMONTIAN. She is honestly the most organized, over-qualified, caring, human, capable professor ever. She obviously loves her job and is very invested in the material. Naturally, she wants her students to feel the same way. She's open to feedback and always wants to hear her students' opinions. TAKE HER!
Very caring and dedicated to her students. This quality of this class rivals my UC classes. There's a project and the tests need some studying, but a good grade is definitely do-able. The tutor can give you a PDF of textbook for free. My one critique is religion was sometimes brought up when it wasn't v relevant, disliked that for a public school
Professor Abbamontian was a tough grader. At the end of the semester she opened up all the assignment and I ended up turning in all my assignments and still got a 75%. Her modules are full of readings with lots of information. There is a quiz and a class discussion at the end of every week. there were 3 big assessments worth 50pts each!
She seems nice initially and is extremely invested and passionate about her job. But the lectures are very long and hard to focus on. She also gives weekly quizzes that are so specific and have very short timers so they're hard to finish. If you don't actively do the work, you won't make it. Other than the intensity of the course, the prof is okay.
Worst prof at pierce. Her lectures are unnecessarily long and she makes it so hard to take notes bc she goes off topic a lot and doesn't get to the point. Had her right when covid hit and wished i dropped she couldn't have been worse. says she'll give extra credit and more assignments, but only grades based off of quizzes. DONT TAKE HER!!
Incredibly tedious! There are SO MANY READINGS & VIDEOS TO WATCH, it's excessive. If you don't mind heavy reading & videos, her class is fairly easy. If you miss a single reading/video, it WILL MATTER. Her quizzes are based off of them so if you miss some info prepare to fail the quiz. Weekly assignments aren't very difficult either, some even fun.
In this class you'll be putting A LOT OF TIME on taking notes. You need to put more time than biology or math classes for this class be prepared.
Professor Abbamontian is fantastic! She goes out of her way to help students and present interesting information. The class is graded on weekly quizzes, 8 assignments, and a museum visit. The assignments and lectures are always fun and interesting. You definitely need to take notes but I could get everything done in about 2 hours.
Beware of her quizzes. She only grades you based on quizzes, and then there's a Getty visit and her unit assessments. She averages your 3 quiz grades so make sure to do good on all 3 attempts. Make sure to rly pay attention to the lecture vids, she is v specific in quizzes. Grades assessments v harshly, always has an issue with your work.
This prof made learning art history fun. She gave lots of wiggle room for students from the assignments they chose to providing extra credit. the assignments were inventive, fun, and not overbearing. I wish I could have continued to take this professors classes for art history. I would def take this prof if i had to do this course again
Her lectures and extra credit took up a lot of my time during school and the extra credit didn't weigh as much. However, communication is key! If you need help, reach out to her. All her quizzes are from her lectures and you have to pay attention carefully because some questions are like a quick 10 seconds. Taking notes on her lecture is prettyhard
The class has few assignments and is generally pretty manageable, but the coursework is very tedious, and you won't learn much. Her lectures focus more on buzzwords than actually teaching and engaging with the material. Students would often joke that this was more of a middle school class than a college level one. Better off with another professor.
Would never take her too much expecations and assignments for a simple art class its not freaking english. dropped after looking at the heavy load
Very lecture-heavy. However, the material itself is not very difficult. Just requires a lot of very extensive attention, as the questions on her pop quizzes can be pretty specific. Not difficult or tricky if you pay attention. You might have a difficult time if you have other professors with a similar very lecture-heavy teaching style.
You're given multiple lecture videos that sometimes have terrible editing/audio for each chapter and a quiz due at the end of the week, you can try 3 times and the average is your final score. She's nice but you need to keep track of your time wisely and take detailed notes. There are unit assessments and many extra credit opportunities.
Good class. some assignments are fun some are difficult. you have to make sure to follow instructions very carefully, they are so specific. shes a nice teacher but a difficult grader. I really hated that she averaged the score of your 3 attempts on the quiz instead of taking the highest score.
Prof. Ramela was a great teacher, she put a lot of time and effort into her material. The one thing I will say is that she makes you take a lot of notes. I took about 10 pages a week because her quiz questions are very specific. She can also be a pretty picky grader and usually gives you one or two points off on an assignment. I would take it again
RUN DONT HIDE! Her class had a lot of readings. She has two quizzes and a test EACH WEEK. Each quiz had very detailed questions. Her reading material was 20+. I have taken bio and her class was worse. You have 3 attempts on the quizzes but she takes the average not the highest grade. Since her class was online, you had to record a video of yourself
Organized, clear, no unexpected elements, generally fun. Weekly there was a quiz & some sort of creative project w/ peer comments. Museum assignment instead of final. There was a lot of material to get through (articles, videos) each week, which felt overwhelming. That said, rest of course work was easy enough & rewarding if you put in some effort.
(art 101 & 107) Her narrated videos and assigned articles are detailed and clear. The tests that align with these are also extremely straight forward and easy as long as you took notes. All other assignments are engaging and fun and nothing takes up too much of your time. She also gives a good amount of time to turn in work and is very caring.
She takes the fun out of art. Horrible.
This class was very good in lectures and provided good information that helped me in my current Chicano class. I would recommend taking this professor as she is very caring and is willing to listen to her students and help out If confusion occurs/. Would take again!
Her assignments are pretty straight forward and if you did the weeks lecture you will receive a good grade. Class is not difficult you do the readings/ quizzes and assignments. Sounds like a lot but if you put the time it will be straight forward & she is really nice and provides feedback.
I don't want to leave a bad review for this professor but honestly, she was releasing wayyyy too many assignments every week. I barely had time to breathe or even take a break from my other courses. I don't recommend taking any other heavy courses with this professor unless you're ready to be drenched in daily readings / watching videos.
For an elective, she sure did give way too much work. Also for how fast she assigns work she takes way too long to grade. She pushes the whole "art changes life" way too much. I wouldn't recommend her if you have a busy schedule.. there's lots of readings and projects that take way tooo long and i found them pretty irrelevant.
Good professor. I took her over the summer semester and there were 4 major unit assignments and 3 discussions. There were weekly quizzes as well. Make sure to use the the lectures because they included the answers to the quizzes. She offers extra credit opportunities as well. Overall would reccomend.
Loved this class! There are a lot of video lectures each week and you NEED to take a lot of notes to prepare for weekly quizzes. However, the course is very engaging and the professor is passionate about what she does. We had a museum assignment which was so much fun. There is a lot of work but its do-able if you use your time wisely. Caring & kind
100% a hater.
This was my second class with Professor Abbamontian. I took Art 101 my first year at Pierce College, and now Art 102 (Honors) as I am preparing to transfer. Her classes are no walk in the park, because she expects quality work from her students. She prepares you for coursework at a four year.
One of the most generous professors I have had. Understanding when I had issues arise, and offers multiple extra credit chances. Many videos and reading, but CTRL+F helps a lot during quizes hint hint. Only complaint is instructions are overexplained sometimes. Getty museum visit is very nice, different. This class is def manageable, you do you.
I appreciate that her Canvas modules are well-organized, and that I never had to ask her for clarification on instructions or grading criteria. There are a lot of assignments, but it's expected of an Honors course. She can be a little stingy with her grading, but it's helpful preparation for transferring to a 4-year.
She's very nice and helps everyone engage well with the class. I learned a lot. There was a lot of material to go through and lots of work that has to be put into the discussions (since many are in the form of activities), however. If you are interested in art history, it shouldn't be too hard but if you aren't it may be hard to keep up with.
I really enjoyed her class, took her online for the summer session 2024 and would recommend. She gives 14 quizzes, 5 assessments, and a museum visit for her final. If you put in the work the class will be really easy. Quizzes are open-notes, two attempts, and takes the highest grade. Planning on taking her for art101.
Professor Abbamontian's class is manageable if you stay on top of the assignments. The material is engaging, and Unstuck study's study tools were a big help for me.
Professor Abbamontian clearly loves art history! Her lecture videos are super interesting and you will definitely learn a lot of fun things. The online quizzes are super easy and straightforward. The final project includes a visit to the museum which I enjoyed! She is very nice and helpful and if you do all the work you will for sure get an A!
I had her before, so I knew what I was getting into. She's great just has a lot of modules for such a short period of time. What brought my grade up was the Getty Museum trip, snapshots, and the final group project. My group was great so my tip, pick a good group and do the Getty trip!!
The absolute sweetest professor I've ever had. Had her for 101 in person and while the tests are a bit difficult she makes it very easy for you to make friends and get the help you need in class. Make sure to make time for your getty trip! And get ready to watch a LOT of video lectures outside of class.
I enjoyed her class. It is easy if you pay attention to the video lectures. There were 2 big assignments in the class. 1 is a museum visit where you go to the museum, take pictures of artworks and write what you like about it. The other big assignment is a group project which can be hit or miss depending on your group. Overall, great class.
Do not take this class!! All she does it shows Kahn Academy and Smarthistory videos, no lectures done by her. Weirdly interesting in students' personal lives for participation credit. A video introduction is required to stay in her class. If you don't like to draw, don't take this class it's mandatory for you to draw in her class to pass.
Syllabus is hard to follow. Hard grader. Over explains and confused class with multiple tries for test and group projects; then follows up to explain there aren't group projects or multiple tries for test. Very unorganized and hard to follow. Unable to reach after she initially reaches out. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Super sweet professor but it is a lot of memorizing. I am not an art major I only had to take this class for credit but it is managable and hopefully I pass. It is a fun class and I have made friends in there.
Ramela is the sweetest professor ever; she is super caring towards her students. With that being said, there is a lot of material (videos she gives you) that you need to watch to succeed in the class. The tests are not hard if you take good notes on the videos. If you take this class, pick a good group because there are a lot of group projects
Grading criteria is clear, and you can turn in assignments one day after the initial due date and still get full credit. Take good notes and don't wait till the last minute to begin assignments. Would recommend
