He is very good at teaching. I love his powerpoint Lectures.
Dr. Dhungana was VERY hard to understand. I felt like he knew exactly what he was talking about but with english as a second language, he was very hard to understand and therefore I didn't understand the course and was in the situation to drop it.
Dr. Dhungana is a good teacher. He is a little hard to understand but he is very funny. The class grading system is set up for students to succeed.
Bottom line: half the class gets an A. And Dhungana's accent is not bad at all. If you're struggling that much to understand him, you need to get out more. He can be pretty funny at times. His tests are somewhat hard, but his grading policies are very lax (drops the lowest two tests, AND curves each test to add 10% onto your grade).
explained concepts well, very fair grading system, ample examples provided.
repetition in explanations is his attack mode. one quiz a week and the final are all the grades. grading scale and points awarded make this a hard to fail class, but you definitely have to work for the A.
There is no way you can not get an a in his class. His class was the easiest class i have ever taken and did not even read a single chapter and still got an A. He is hard to understand sometimes.
Prof. Dhungana was very difficult to understand, and it appeared that he just didn't want to be teaching. He seemed to just nt car at all about students sitting in his class, or in his office. The textbook is terrible, and his grading policies are very lax. Easy to pass the class, but impossible to understand the material.
Impossible to understand. Rarely willing to work with students who may not have a background in Physics.
He obviously doesn't know the system like he should and his accent is too strong to understand anything he says. His notes are not that helpful, and I wasted money on the book. We only use it for the reading quiz.
For those who need a breezy science course with lab, PHYS1052 with Professor Dhungana is your class. This is another unfortunate example of a teacher who feels unchallenged. He is clearly very intelligent, and is teaching well below his desired level. Easy quizzes are based on text (but duplicate info can be found in lectures), and easy labs.
Yes, he has an accent, but if you pay attention it's not hard to understand him. Generally a difficult class, but weekly quizzes account for 45% of the grade and he adds an additional 10 percent to your overall quiz score at the end of the semester. His power points are helpful and he is pretty funny! Do lots of practice and you'll ace it!
Do not hesitate to go to Ramesh's office hours and work through problems with him. He is available, friendly, and will help you as much as you need. That said, his class requires a significant amount of independent study with 3 weekly quizes and 4 exams. If you do the work, you will get an A--but it's not an easy A.
Worst teacher ever!!!! Demanded too much work as if he was the only class we were taking! Did not explain anything clearly--taught the class as if everyone was experts in physics--did not learn anything at all! Do NOT recommend!
Professor is terribly ineffective at teaching the subject. He likes to employ trick questions that expect a much higher grasp of physics than an initial student will have. I waste at least 18 to 20 hours a week trying to stay ahead plus another 4 hours for weekly quizzes and tests. Do not take this professor if you're a non-physics major.
Accent not bad. The class requires a lot of work 2 weekly reading quizzes and one weekly math quiz (online), midterm and final (in class). He sets you up so you can get an A, but the final could really ruin your grade in the end. If you don't actually need physics in your career take someone else.
Did not use the book once. Accent isn't that bad. If you go to his office hours he will explain and is really a good help. Probably one of the few teachers at UC that is teaching well below his level. If you like astronomy, take it
WORTHLESS! knows physics, unwilling to share his knowledge of pysics. Does not speak english. You will spend all of your time wondering what he's trying to pronounce. Spends an hour explaining tension, and flips through the slides on the formulas. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
It is easy to do well in this class. The problem is you will have learned how to approach specific problems rather than understanding the physical concepts. The problems on the exam come right out of the book or class notes - most of the time with the same numbers!
great teacher if you want to work hard and understand better
A truly good professor. His expectation from students is clear, and his lectures is sometime repetitive and dry yet most of the time pretty funny and interesting. The weekly tests are hard, and the exams which count for the majority of your grade comes directly from examples, book, and lectures notes. If you have enough practices, you will be good.
He is difficult to understand. The weekly test questions are no where to be found. The book is horrible. You can teach yourself better, don't even bother to go to class.
Hard to understand. Basically reads the textbook aloud to you in class. Too many quiz online, hard to manage time.
Possibly the worst professor I've ever had in college. The only reason I went to class was for the attendance that he grades you on (which is random)He reads directly from his slides and doesn't explain much further than that. And then every week you have to take an online quiz on the chapter but his notes are absolutely useless with those question
Overall, really good professor; not for everyone. Huge workload! Mostly easy Reading Quizzes before every class; skim the textbook. Very hard Weekly Tests, every weekend. Has an accent; some people complain. Willing to sit w/you during office hours & explain concepts/go over problems. His message: Practice is Key. Not an easy A, but learned a lot!
This is by far the worst professor I have had in college. When asked a question, he does not even understand what is being asked of him and has to be asked the same question 4 times in order to finally reach the answer initially looking for. His labs are unorganized and he relies heavily on other instructors for class. hard to understand
I definitely recommend taking Ramesh for Phy 2. 50% of grade comes from online quizzes and tests, if you legitimately READ the material before every quizlecture, you will be well prepared for not only his online tests, but the midterm and the final (both paper.) I learned SO much more through this style of checking for understanding.
Lectures are long and boring. Grading criteria is confusing and little to no outside help. However, this is partially because astronomy is NOT a fun class. Seems like a really reasonable and nice teacher.
Professor essentially lectures right out of the textbook through power points. Has 2 Reading Tests (15%) and 1 Weekly Test (35%) every week online with one midterm (25%), and final (25%). The midterm and final is hard as he is picky with what he wants for answers. It is an okay course; however it is a little long.
I usually do well in math and science courses but this was terrible. I went to every class and had a tutor and was still struggling. Takes a lot of time especially if you don't understand the material.
He is apparently intelligent, but he is difficult to understand due to his accent, and basically reads verbatim from the slides which are just copies of the text book. There are two easy reading quizzes and one fairly tough weekly quiz every week. The weekly quizzes are sometimes over what he covered in class, but he's usually behind.
He is very clear with what is required for the course right off the bat. Do the practice problems from back of the bookslides and you will be golden, especially since he takes questions DIRECTLY from these for the exams. Great teacher and makes the class interesting. Also, 5% free credit if you attend class every day!!
Just done with final in college Physics. Test was hard but questions were from the pool. Uses video clips and animations in class and does lots of problems . Three online tests every week. Two reading tests are easy. just need to read book. Weekly tests are tough. Mostly need to understand materials to do well. answers are not available online.
I took physics 1 with another professor but one of my friend took with Dr. Ramesh. Based on conversation with him, I decided to take Physics 2 with Ramesh. I found Ramesh lot better than another professor. I actually learn to solve problems. I am using the skills to prepare for my MCAT. I wish had taken Physics 1 with him as well.
The accent was a non-issue for me. He mostly goes off his PowerPoints anyway. Reading quizzes due every MonWed by 11:59PM were word for word from the textbook. Weekly quizzes are pretty straight forward as well, similar to the problems in the book and his PowerPoint. I suggest you save your results to study from later. Huge curve - 75% is a B.
Great class. He does lots of examples in class. Test questions come from a pool of problems that are done in class or in the book. So if you pay attention in class, you literally will have seen every test question and its solution before the day of the test. Weekly quiz and 2 weekly reading quizzes.
Seriously the WORST Professor I've ever had. Confusing class the entire semester. He does not give you any guidance with the Homework or Tests. If you ask him a question about any of his written assignments, he will get very defensive and angry that you didn't understand his illegible assignment. I can not believe he has a job at this university.
I took Ramesh for Physics 1 and 2, and he was great. It seems like a ton of work - There are 3 online tests each week, but no written homework, and the online tests force you to actually read and keep up with doing problems. He makes his grading scale helpful as well. In Physics 2 I got a B on the midterm, C on the final, but an A in the class.
He's a little too easy to tune out since he doesn't use a microphone. He has technical difficulties every other class. There are all of two tests but if you can't follow what he's doing in class, you're going to be lost beyond all comprehension 3 column equation sheet or no. If you don't know how to study, you're screwed.
Professor Ramesh is passionate about Astronomy, however, it can get boring hearing him talk for an hour. The class isn't interactive, obviously, and there is no midterm which sucks because the final is cumulative and there isn't a study guide. Ask him questions for help, otherwise he won't offer it to you. Do your labs!!
I took an honors physics class in high school with a great teaching approach. Passed with an A and worked hard for it. Get to college and take Ramesh. Struggle understanding what he is saying and teaching. He does not like to answer questions and will get defensive if you ask. He teaches lectures after you take weekly tests on the subject.
His class is utterly awful and I would never take it again if given the chance.
I am great at math but his examples are confusing, he would do an example and provide no explanation for how he got there. If he does show work, you better take great notes as it is the only time he will explain. He gives online reading tests that expect you to know the material and how to preform complex calculations before he even lectures on it.
It is true that he has a huge grading curve and that his tests come from the problem set but if you don't understand anything he attempts to explain, it's worthless. He does not know how to explain himself properly at all and then is very rude to his students. Do not take at all costs. You have been warned.
He uses sapling for his quizzes which makes it easy to get good grades on those. His tests all you need to do is practice the problems he gives in class and those assigned out of the book. He is not a good teacher and you wont understand anything in his class but i still got an A because of his easy online quizzes and in class participation points
I would have to say that his class was the worst class I've taken in my three years of college. He reads straight up from the powerpoint slides. Even though his lectures are long, hard, and boring, his exams are pretty generous. He literally takes the examples he did from lectures and change the numbers for the exams. Very tough grader.
His English is horrible. Does clicker questions for points so don't skip the class. He'll give worksheets out but you have to come to office hours to check if you have the correct answers. Only two exams but they are super difficult. Go to SI to get help otherwise you won't understand a single thing.
Willing to always help us understand. Has ability to teach us complex concepts at a very basic level. I've had him for both semesters of physics and he is one of the best teachers I've had thus far.
Dhungana is not nearly as bad as what everyone makes him seem. His PowerPoints are very helpful. His exams were out of 25 points including the final. 28 questions on exams & only grades the best 25. He uses clickers but in the end those turn out to be up to 5 points of EC. Weekly quizzes on sampling. Adds up to 10% to both quizzes & HW at the end
His english is not good and is exams are tough. This is the worst class I have taken in my three years here at CU Denver. I did not learn anything on his exams and no matter how much studying I did, i was guessing on half of the exam. Take physics with a different professor.
His exams are tough and it does not help that his english is not the best either. I feel like i didnt learn anything in this class. Highly recommend not taking him and to take physics with a different professor.
Dhungana was able to make some physics lectures fun. Definitely some dry material which made some classes long. Professor does have an accent but still communicates clearly. My one gripe is that I came 1.4 points short of an A and he was unwilling to communicate with me. Overall, would take again, just make sure to do everything you can.
Ramesh is an extremely nice person, but he just isn't too good at teaching. His lectures are long and boring and theres really no incentive to go to class. Theres homework every other day and lots of labs, although the labs are fairly easy. The only tests in the class are the midterm and final, both of which are fairly difficult. Study. -Astronomy
Is not very helpful with after class questions. He does one day of review, and half of the review isn't even on the midterm / final.
Only a midterm and final for all exams, but a fair grader and uses a curve at the end of the semester.
Great teacher for those who are willing to work for their degree. It is physics so come with an open mind and ready to learn, or you will get left behind. His lectures are essential for the in-class exams. If you want a science degree or want to take physics to learn something, then consider this professor.
I really enjoyed going to his class. He is strict only b/c he knows his students can give a lot more. Do your best and he will be happy. Come to class prepared and ready to learn more exciting things in a very fun way. Communicate with him, but do NOT expect any handouts. Ramesh is a truly amazing person and if you feel other wise, do better!
He is the least understanding person I have ever met, he is not able to be reached outside of lecture and if he is, he is being rude to you or criticizing your intelligence. He is unable to elaborate on his lesson plans and makes you feel stupid if you dont understand the concept. The only reason I passed was because of Chegg and the SI teacher.
I found it hard at first to understand because of his accent, but got used to it after a week or two. There is a lot of online pre-lectures/bridges/weekly-tests. The homework that is online is just for practice and is not graded. He is a good professor and as long as you study the slides and worksheets for exams, you should be fine.
Ramesh was very clear that some algebraic knowledge and hard work is necessary. Gave algebraic exercises and self-test material before class began. Three online tests every week. 2 midterms, comprehsve final. Work-sheets and chapter practices to learn better. He helped to correct worksheet in office. 5% for Participation. Waiting to take PHYS 2020.
If you actually watch the videos on sapling and try in the homework, you'll learn and do well. Everyone uses chegg but its the homework category is only worth 5% so its more worth it to actually try and do the homework! His tests are based on the clicker questions in the lectures.
Grading on the labs are not clear at all, when asking questions about it he is rude and condescending. There are a lot of TAs that do the grading, so feedback from them is never consistent. Going to class is pointless, it's hard to understand him due to his accent and all he does is read from the textbook. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS, FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!!
Dr. Dhungana is a great physics professor. His lectures are entertaining, he makes many jokes and uses real life examples. He also offers extra credit clicker questions for those who attend lecture so don't skip. His grading scale is fair so if you put in the work and attend lecture regularly you can get an A.
This class isn't about just stars and planets etc., this class is full of math and science. If you don't speak math and science, do not take this class/professor. This class was a lot harder than I was expecting for an intro level class. He doesn't explain very well what he's looking for, even if you ask for help.
Ramesh is hilarious and does a decent job at making extremely boring stuff interesting. He's available outside of class and clears confusion in class too. I feel like the only con with this class is you have to be on top of your game and that Ramesh is vague when it comes to assignments but still grades them toughly, so do EXACTLY what he says.
His physics test is multiple choice, and mostly comes from (or is similar to) the problems you do in class. Lots of the test is conceptual, although there are some problems that will require you to work out the problem with math. I picked this prof because I just wanted to get through physics as fast and easy as possible, this is the guy to take.
Used iclickers as extra credit which was very helpful material wise. 30 multiple choice tests where top 25 count. Hard to get ahold of out of class. Go to class everyday and study his examples and you'll do fine on test. Dont over complicated material. Online assigments dont pertain towards lecture material but good grade booster. He is funny.
Dr. Dhungana is a good lecturer, and with enough hardwork and time, you'll pass. He also has a great TA, Karl, who really helps you understand the material. The online sapling homework and quizzes are great grade boosters, and clicker points go as extra credit! He makes physics interesting and is very funny.
Ramesh is a difficult instructor. He has weakly quizzes and assignments due before each class but the two biggest portion of your grade come from his midterm and the cumulative final. His lectures are confusing and difficult to understand, especially when he gets things wrong and is unwilling to accept anyone's opinion. The TA was a HUGE help.
I don't understand his class at all, I would rather watch Youtube videos to understand the concept. There's a fee for Sapling and iClicker, so be mindful that you'll pay more. You can reach him outside of class though and he can help you if you have questions. All works are due before class starts without notice, that's why I hate Sapling.
Dr. Dhungana is an amazing person but his lecture style is very difficult to keep up with. His explanations and teaching make no sense. I had to watch youtube videos and khan academy to understand the subjects we were covering. Do not recommend.
I liked Dr. Dhunghana. He posts lecture notes at the beginning of the semester so you can print those out and really listen to lectures. Exams are all 30 questions, multiple choice, he takes top 25. He does not test you on any math, only concepts, so study those clicker questions. I highly recommend going to SI with Karl, it helped out so much!
Ramesh gives lots of opportunity to earn points and learn concepts through clicker. He is very nice and respectful to students. I know that he cares about his students and actively respond to emails . He corrected my worksheets sent through emails and helped me when I showed up during office hour through zoom.
Even though the class was through zoom due to covid -19, I still felt engaged in class. I really enjoyed Dr. Ramesh as instructor. Ramesh explained concept clearly and he was always available to answer questions. He cares about students and cares about what he is teaching.
He often does not answer questions asked during lecture, will start a problem and not go over the answer, seems annoyed to answer questions. The homework questions (worth a grade) are often not directly related to the homework videos, and so you are graded on content you have not learned, and he won't take feedback on how this is a bad system.
The sapling homeworks are a little annoying, but they're not impossible and really they feel like an excuse to get you to look at the textbook. The textbook is free and SUPER helpful. Dr. Dhunghana is super nice, has major dad-vibes, and is so so smart. His lectures are pretty good. Go to SI!!! IT WILL HELP SO MUCH!!!
I have never felt as disrespected by a professor as I have this one. Mistakenly signed up for phys 2 with him after phys 1. His worksheets are unclear and cover things not presented in lecture. When asking for clarification he belittles you and is disrespectful. He acts like you should already know the material being taught. Wouldn't recommend.
Hands down worst professor I've had at UCD. If I didn't take physics in high school I would be completely lost. Week of our midterm and half the class still makes mistakes on the simplest fundamentals during clicker questions.
I would only recommend this class if you are already good at physics and are good at taking tests. If you arent, the only way you will probably pass is the SI sessions. He dosnt like when you ask questions in class or out, and dosnt seems to care when the majority is failing during clicker questions. If you dont understand, class will not help you.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Insults and degrades students for asking questions (he once sent an email saying the class needed to "learn physics better"), worksheets and weekly quizzes are much harder than in class content, exams are incredibly difficult, and he just moves on when 50%+ of the class fails a polling question.
Just done with final of physics 2. Took both physics 1 and 2 with Ramesh. He makes you work hard and make you learn. But all those efforts paid off. Physics I learned in this class was very helpful for MCAT preparation.
Dr. Ramesh is an amazing professor who cares about his students, I enjoy his teaching style and appreciate the layout of the course - preclass, worksheets, weekly everyweek. Unfortunately, I was late too late to register for his physics 2 class as it is already full with long wait list. I wish the physic 2 class size was as big as physics 1.
The handouts he provided for the more than half of the course summarized and explained topics very well. They along with suggested videos prepared me for assignement. Three attempts for the preclass was really helpful because I could go back and forth until I learned the materials. The discussion allowed me to mention the topic I found difficult.
often emailed asking for help, he always redirected me to sources that were posted in canvas. very frustrating because i had looked, they didnt help. didnt seem like he wanted to spend extra time/energy explaining again. correct midterm answers had to be found by assuming things not given (what the slope is) there were gaps in the course
Get ready to do the work and learn. You will do well. Make sure you have time to attend the classes as most questions on the tests are very similar to the questions done through the clicker in class.
THE WORST PROFESSOR at UCD! This professor will talk down to you, and criticize you in a non-professional manner! He is defensive, verbally aggressive in his attitude towards students, and ignorant of the subject matter he is teaching, students are constantly correcting his incorrect teaching! He should not be teaching! Horrible Mentor! BEWARE
Hands down the Worst Teacher at UCD, this is an intro class, the professor can't even teach it right! He has an attitude toward students, he might have a PhD, but his teaching & people skills are very much lacking! Do not take this class, I only took the class because it was the only class open, I see why now! Don't pay for this class!
Warning! Don't take this class! This guy is toxic and has bad vibes, he does not belong at an educational institution! It's a BAD IDEA to register for this class! It will be the only class open for late registration, don't take this class, wait a semester for another professor, you will thank me later.
The hardest part of this class was trying to understand questions with rampant spelling and grammatical errors. Questions often lack sufficient context to answer, or had answers worded in ways where multiple could be interpreted as correct. Would sometimes get his own questions wrong.Easy course but very painful if you are actually trying to learn.
I was really nervous about taking physics. However, once class started I became comfortable. There was required algebra help at the beginning of semester. Quizzes had multiple attempts. Class had clicker questions and problems. Worksheet problems were very similar to class. Midterms and finals were based on worksheets and clicker.
Working example in class was helpful and the in-class physical demonstrations were very helpful for understanding. The clicker questions were also very helpful and provided good study material for the exams. Summary notes for each concept and week's work that we had for the first half of the semester were a great supplement to the textbook.
Ramesh was and is one of my favorite teachers. Lectures with example problems were helpful. The problems we do in class as practice are very helpful for completing assignments and studying for exams. We were frequently asked for feedback regarding what topics to go over and if there is anything that needs to be improved in the classroom setting.
Ramesh did a good job of really teaching the concepts in class. I really feel like I got the adequate amount of practice needed on each topic, and I really learned the concepts. Super nice guy that is always willing to re-explain things. Overall the content is really amazing.
I took both physics 1 and 2 with Dr. Ramesh. Joined class everyday, did most assignments. Did well in both class and learned lots of physics problems and concepts. Yes sometimes if felt like lot of work. Applied for medical school. Asked professor to write recommendation letter. Got in and now batch of 2027. Mission accomplished.
I had him for physics 1. He provides detailed note, makes weekly assignments. I didn't have to pay for anything except $16 for clicker app. So you can't find answer of the questions in internet. But I went through note, provided solution of worksheet and did well in class. I am taking physics 2 with another nicer professor but NOT doing very well.
He was great. The lectures were long and a lot of the time it was hard to hear him. But he is really funny and he does make jokes. He has amazing lecture notes, some of the best I have ever seen. There are 3 test including the final best 20 out of 25 all multiple choice. Do the practice problems and really you will be set.
This professor barely helped the class when we asked questions. Sometimes the labs didn't match up with what we were learning, and there were usually a lot of typos in assignments/test that confused a lot of people in the class.
Unnecessarily hard for a general astronomy course. Practice tests and reviews for the final don't matter because none of those questions even show up on the final! Lots of reading and video watching, and for the weekly quizzes and practices you need to pay attention to every. single. word. in the readings. Feedback for labs are not constructive.
Ramesh was rlly funny and a good teacher imo. His accents not hard to understand and he explains concepts well. He curves exams, which are all MC. If u pay attention in class its not hard to pass. He also provides a free link to the textbook and has in class clicker q's for extra credit. Lecture doesnt match up with lab which he said on the 1st day
Just finished the physics 1. It was offered through zoom. I earned better grade than what I expected at the beginning of semester. Already signed up for physic 2 with Ramesh. Very organized and consistent class. All the materials are provided. Just buy iclicker app and your are ready. Don't forget to do algebra worksheet once it is posted.
Ramesh's physics class has detailed notes and weekly assignments. The clicker questions and in-class demonstrations were very helpful. Unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the practice problems. Overall, it's a challenging but rewarding course.
Instruction consists of chapter to read, youtube lectures (by publisher, not Dr Dhungana), and AI generated podcasts. No help with labs, which weren't covered in book either. Actually suggested using chatGPT to get help instead of asking him. Either no or rude responses. Assessments are multiple choice intended to trick you, not test knowledge.
