He knows his stuff and he is easy to follow
No Comments
He reads right off the outlines and can be a little hard to follow.
Expectation is not clearly defined. Lectures are vague and the text is no help.Avoid.
He is a superb professor. Very helpful, friendly, and an expert in his field. I totally recommend him if you're taking Fin555.
I had him during the summer session. He definitely knows his stuff and kinda teaches like a father figure, he really seems to want you to learn it and will spend time helping you. I recommend him. Don't take in summer, too short.
Took him during the summer session and he teaches very well. Take this class with him during the summer even though its fast he is easier on you then so instead of the midterm you get three quizzes that are from the study guide, one project, and final...
Just finished the 2nd summer session with professor Codina. I have to say I was disappointed--disappointed that the course was too short! Professor Codina is definitely the best professor I have had thus far at DePaul. I definitely recommend him.
had him for summer session...great teacher..very nice and caring that all his students do well and understand the material fully! quizzes were easy yet the final was a bit hard!! overall good class..TAKE iT!!
GOOD GUY, A LITTLE HARD BUT THIS COURSE ISNT EASY. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM. HE DOES CURVE GRADES AND GRADES A BIT DIFFICULT. COVERS THE WHOLE BOOK, BUT IF YOURE GOOD AT THE STUDY GUIDE YOUR FINE. HE WILL TELL YOU MOST OF THE MC QUESTIONS ON EXAMS ARE FROM STUDY GUIDE
Such a nice person. Always ready to help. Just do the study guide and you should pass the tests. I really liked this class. Take him!!!
Ok, not very clear!
He's a very good professor
Codina rocks!
This class is tough! Not the most interesting but it’s useful. He is real good at helping and really cares about his students. Try and not take anything else this semester. Overall a brutal class. P.S. Dont spend your whole semester working on the project. It’s only 20% of the grade and it can be a nightmare.
good prof. not too clear but very helpful.
he is so cute. i dont think he teaches very clearly, but you will pass b/c the material isnt that hard. and i think he passes alot of people regardless.
Outstanding Professor! Cares very much for his students and what you get out of the class. He includes a lot of real world material in his class. I recommend you take his class as a start to your MBA program.

keeps you till the last second and squeezes about 20 minutes worth of information into 1 minute and expects you to remember it all.
he will cram the whole 25 chapter textbook into the quarter session using every class minute available. so lots of material to study for exams. no homework assignments except 2 short group reports. each absense, even excused, drops your overall grade. look interested in class to bump up your participation. given that, i would still take him again.
Codina is awesome - hes makes the best of the material which isnt very interesting although he will keep you 2 min past the time your supposed to leave - The info is immense! there is a ton of stuff to remember although he gives you all the questions in the test bank - there are seriously about 1500+ questions to study - 35 on the test...no joke
This class was hard! Lots of work..you go through the whole book in one quarter! Tests: essays are not what he says they will be and the multiple choice are chosen from a test bank of thousands of questions...tough class!
There is a reason he's the most popular. The class is hard, but it would be with any professor. the first couple of classes are overwhelming, but stick with it. he's an easy grader. Don't spend too much time with the group project. Remember it's not all that much a part of your grade if I remember correctly.
The class is hard but thats just because of the course not codina, he is probably one of the easier professors you will find in the department. You will have two assignments a midterm and a final. Put more effort into studying for the tets because they make up for most of you grade. Also he curves your final grades depending on the classes scores.
No matter who you take the class is going to be somewhat hard but Codina makes it bareable. You have two assignments and two tests in which he will provide a genereous curve if needed. I got a score of a c on my midterm and was sure I got the same on my final but ended up with an A- in the class. Great prof I highly recomend him.
It is a hard class and it is by no means an easy A. You will get a lot out of the class if you work hard and do the homework. He is a nice guy and brings real world experience to the class.
Class is alot of work and even more becuase most of the material is not well explained and insufficient examples given in class. Make sure to review test bank for tests and take the whole class time for tests.
I thought he was great! Interesting class material and stories. He gives you very straight forward, accurate advice for midterm and final. Class is a lot of work but worth investing time into homework and quizzes as they are similar to test material
He's very helpful, classes are fun. He makes you work hard on the most important concepts (homeworks and team projects). He likes to teach you different approaches of a topic and gives his opinion but encourages you to develop your own. Sometimes he's not too clear explaining some concepts but when people ask he can find a better way to explain it
Great class, very good professor, one of the best I've had at Depaul. His class is challenging, but you will learn a lot. He is very responsive and if questions are asked in class, he has the ability to break things down so that a novice can understand what is going on. Accessible by email and makes time to meet during his office hours.
He is a good guy, but class was boring. I really didn't learn much. I felt his grading was un-fair. No tests, just a bunch of group work.
Codina is a nice guy, and he is not a bad teacher but he spends almost the entire course teaching you this stupid software model that you will never use in the real world. I'm not sure I learned anything I can use outside of the software model.
Codina is by far the worst teacher I've had. He does not teach anything & can't answer any questions- he expects the class to debate and answer each others questions. He spend most of the class trying to figure out the useless valuartion software.
He's a very nice professor and very helpful. He's also a good grader. The course is not easy but take it use Codina better than others. We had online midterm( which helps a lot for the in class) and in class midterm. The same thing for the final.Don't take this course in summer. You will not have enough time.
I really did not learn much from him. I utilized the text for any questions I had. His lectures are basically verbatim to the textbook. His insistence on utilizing the discussion board for questions was annoying and cumbersome. He wanted the students to learn from each other. Great concept, but it did not work. I would not take him.
Codina is a nice guy and good professor with a lot of international experience. That being said, I advise against taking his FIN555 in a 5-week session. Things moved way too quickly and he tried to cram 1.5 courses into one session. Take him in a 10-week session, but the class will be hard. The discussion board was impossible to keep up with.
Prof. Codina is a nice guy, but he has his own way of doing things. He forces you to learn how to calculate Net Liquid Assets, which is annoying (EVERYBODY uses Free Cash Flow). On-line portions of midterm and final were manageable; in-class exams were OK. DON'T take this class in 5-wk format; keeping up with the discussion board was impossible.
I really did not learn much from him. His lectures are basically verbatim to the textbook. He uses an online and inclass tests. The online portion takes a ton of time to study for. Basically, he setup that class so that there was little effort on his part. (i.e. book provided slides, online tests, etc.) I would not take him.
He is a good teacher, explaines material well and has interesting stories. Midterm and Final are manageable long as you study for them. Better than most finance teachers.
Horrible teacher! Doesn't teach anything that useful in the real world. Teaches his way of finance when the professional world uses another. I didnt learn anything in his class. I'm a straight A student too, so it's not like I'm lazy. This guy sucks at teaching FIN 333. Just has you put numbers into a program, but doesnt teach you anything about it
This guy is brutal. Teaches by reading textbook publisher slides. Homework consisted of online questions with online exams. He attempted to teach additional material but ended up confusing and frustrating the class. Very poor professor for a class that has a great deal of valuable content.
Yes he can be brutal but Codina is a nice guy, he cares about the students and tries to help. However, he can be confusing and misleading, but it gets better after a few weeks. If you study hard you will learn a lot and do well. I liked that he also thought the sources and uses of net liquid assets and not only CF.
Prof Codina is a nice guy but brutal as a teacher. His lectures are lifted straight from the textbook which is itself overly complicated and contains more information than required. Avoid like the plague!
Confusing. Unclear. Waste of money and time! Did NOT learn a thing. Retook this class with another professor and got an A.
A very kind professor. All his multi-choice questions directly from MyEconLab. The class feels like info overload, but he grades really easy! Take him!
His "future" methods are ok, but the class is to learn the foundations of finance. You will have to become best friends with the textbook. Things make sense when he lectures, but once you leave the classroom and work on assignments, watch out! Tests are comprehensive and looooooong. Be sure to keep up with the homework. Prof is kind & worldly.
Codina is a good professor, though he can be a bit confusing at times. If you pay attention in class, the midterm and final are fairly straightforward. The book was very useful. He also grades particiapation, which is a bit strange for a finance lecture course.
Codina's helpful, but he's too helpful. Class discussion was dominated by one student who didn't understand basic accounting (or math). We spent lots of time on the simple material and breezed through the difficult stuff. He needs to worry less about "helping" and tell certain students to meet him after class instead of wasting the whole class time
Great professor! Very interesting class and, by far, the most useful class I have taken at DePaul (despite the fact that I'm not FIN major). Highly recommended!!!
Codina does a poor job teaching FIN 555. He is hard to understand. He grades participation/attendence but does not even take attendence. Although most of the class did not miss ONE class session, no one received full participation points which is worth 20% grade. I STRONGLY recommend taking any other professor for this class!
Took Codina for FIN555 & thought he was a great teacher. Made class understandable to students without a finance background. So was happy to take his FIN 524 class. WRONG CHOICE. His teaching style completely changed. TOUGH case studies. EXTREMELY CRITICAL on all group presentations & made presenting a miserable experience. Didn't teach much.
I HIGHLY recommend this class! It is case studies and is a bit challenging but people forget that this is GRAD school!if you want to learn this class has stimulating debates and constructive criticism involved for every case presentation.Don't waste your time and others' if you only want an A.it's a shame for such a good class not to enjoy it!
I have Taken Codina for Fin 380, and I enjoyed every bit of it. He is an excelent Professor with a lot of knowledge through his work experience. He was teaching us some "secrets" in the world of finance. If you want to stand out in the future and have a sucessful career, Take The Class. Easy grader, nobody can get under a B. Go to class though.
Professor Ramon Codina is one of the best teachers at Depaul University. He is extremely intelligent, knowledgeable, easy going and interesting. I truly gained a lot of knowledge and better understanding of finance by attending his class. I would highly recommend this professor
Professor Ramon Codina, is one of the best Depaul has to offer. Please take 380 with him. You will not regreat. Easy grader.
If you like Finance and want to be sucessful in this sector, Take codina for 380. Very helpful, and interesting class. If you study a little, you can get an A.
Best class ever. Fantastic professor. Take him, you will not regreat. The other postings, about the case studies, beeing hard....lasy students that don't want to study at all, and think they deserve an A. Did I mention that he is one of the Best professors at DePaul?
I was excited going into this class as Dr. Codina got his Phd at Northwestern, I figured this would be a challenging course. Sigh. The course is all group work and FIN 101 for the MBA students who have never taken a FIN course. Dr Codina is a nice guy, but not a great professor.
I've taken two courses with Professor Codina and both have fallen short on expectations. He's not to blame entirely b/c DePaul restructured the Fin 555 course so everyone does the same thing. FIN 524 I took as a follow up and isn't what I expected. Busy group work mainly, not the best value courses at Depaul but mandatory for most finance people.
I don't understand anything he says. All he does is read off the slides he gets from the publisher. Words cannot describe how awful of an experience this has been.
You are better off just reading the book on your own. Sometimes he is unsure of the textbook. You can't really trust him or the book, according the him the book has some mistakes so the answers are useless.
don't know how to say, barely learned nothing from him, and easy to get an A........
He is a professional guy who used to run his own business. So things in his classes can be very practical.
Mr. Codina is a great guy who has a lot of experience in the Finance world. You don't have to learn ANYTHING to get a decent grade in this class bc the Midterm and Final are both take-home :). That being said, you CAN learn a lot if you really want to and put in the time. If you want an easy pass, this is your guy.
FIN333 is a very hard class with challenging material. Codina is a very nice guy and will like you if you show some effort. His exams were difficult. Group homework problems due each week that you grade yourselves, a midterm, and final - both in class and open notes and book. Study the homework problems and recommended exercises for exams.
NOT A GOOD TEACHER. TAKES AGES TO DO ASSIGNMENTS AND POST GRADES. AVOID
Codina is a horrible teacher, He does not teach, he expects you to learn from the book entirely. In class all that is accomplished is examples and he does not even help you with the examples if you have a question. Then when going over the examples he does not use equations from the books he uses his own. Avoid this teacher unless last resort.
Professor Codina is a very brilliant. He grades based on your thought process rather than your answer in this course, in other words he values a creative thought process and a slightly incorrect answer than a traditional thought process and a supposed correct answer. You will learn a lot for practice in the real world as opposed to theory.
Codina is great! He has a unique sense of humor and also takes the time to give his personal opinion on a lot of topics without just giving boring lectures by reading from power point slides. The class consists of 2 tests and two mini papers. Take it with him.
He is very smart and funny. The subject is somewhat of a review of other business classes such as money & banking and some accounting classes. If you took those classes first then this class should be pretty easy. Weekly online quizzes and two tests.
Decent lecturer so far over summer but exam material has things NOT learned in the class! Professor Codina included things we didn't even learn on our midterm and gave the excuse that "you should learned this already in other classes." I studied all the material we learned in class but If you want to do well on exams, study general finance as well.
The course was informative and the cases discussed were challenging.
Ramon is very easy to get an A in the class he gives you the formulas you need to know and the quizzes are online not too hard. The midterm gives you ten extra credit options. so pretty easy also the participation i dont know about he just randomly says thats good class participation
Ramon is great! He's a very funny guy. Tells you 3 variations of the same formula that you can use throughout the entire midterm and partially the final. Very straight forward. Participation can literally be reminding him he has something written on the board already. I would definitely take him again! You don't need the book if you take notes.
He explains the material well and has a lot of experience in the finance industry. He is also really funny and nice. I would recommend him to everyone!
Hard class, you must study to pass. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you skip class you will get very lost because his notes are similar to problems that are on the midterm and final. He does not explain too well, and sometimes leaves questions not answered. Final easier than midterm, but he adds things on there not talked about in class.
A very nice professor I shall never forget for all the in-puts he provided. Really hard when needed
Codina is very rude and made me feel very umcomfortable in class. He named all of the people who did well on the quizzes, and at one point put my past quiz scores and attempts on the screen. Also said "this is the most important class youre taking this quarter" - which is extremely rude when not knowing other students circumstances.
He's an easy teacher. If you spend a couple hours studying before the exam you will be fine. Gives you homework problems which are exactly the same as the midterm with different numbers. Other people writing reviews need to stop having their feelings hurt for being called on.
Ramon Codina should not be a professor. He spends all of class time working through a couple homework problems multiple ways which is unnecessary. He takes off a ridiculous amount of points on his exams for small mistakes, and belittles students for asking questions or getting practice problems incorrect. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Makes most things he expects pretty clear. Listen to his lectures and you understand the material. What he does in class is basically 90% of the exams (the rest are definitions etc). People are soft and complain when he calls someone out for a bad grade, get over it. This class does not require an incredible amount of effort to do well in.
Pretty good FIN310 prof, he lets you have cheatsheet on Mid term and Final. The quizes are take home (mylabs) and unlimited tries).
Ramon is probably one of the better professors for finance but it isn't a walk in the park. If you skip class you will not do well. Homework problems every night that are not graded. Tests are hard so you have to really study to get a good grade. He will call on students and will question if they are 100% sure of answer. Good prof though
I wish DePaul would hire someone who actually knows how to speak English, this guy is pretty spotty. Said I was wrong when I described a bond as principal paid at maturity, he might be deaf too
This good clsss participatttttion.
Class really isn't too necessary to pass. All problems are the same as discussed in class and gives many hints on what will be on the midterm and final. Get formula sheets for midterm and final making both tests very manageable. Quizzes online and unlimited attempts. Easy B, not hard at all for an A.
Mentions about every 2 minutes how he worked for Jp Morgan. If he had done so well there, why would he need to teach at DePaul? Curious
I feel bad for the guy because my class really got after him about the difficulty of the tests and how little he reviews or even covers test material in lectures. He's very nice and listens when you ask for help, but I honestly have no idea what's going to be on the final...I can't even narrow it down. Disorganized and very very difficult. Curves.
Class consists of two tests and online homework. Pay attention to what he writes on the whiteboard, especially the equations he circles because it will probably be on the tests. Tests are pretty difficult but you get a cheat sheet. He doesn't give out a study guide so it's really confusing. Our midterm class avg was bad and he doesn't curve.
did not find this class very helpful or interesting despite him saying : "This will be the most important class you take this quarter" I never studied and did fine, but it seemed like a waste of time. He often reminds the class of how he worked (PAST TENSE) at JP Morgan, but that doesn't explain how he is now an adjunt professor at DePaul. Crazy
