Nice guy, but very tough teacher. He is scatteredbrained and hops from topic to topic. Not very organized, and rushes through the material. The only positive about this teacher is that his curves for tests are nice, he really wants his students to succeed, just doesn't know how to teach this subject.
He really is a sincere guy and loves finance but his teaching style is not good. His lectures are confusing and anything he writes on the board is unorganized. The first few tests were way too long. The averages are not good but the curves help. If you take him, you must keep up by looking through the book and doing the practice problems.
Knows everything about finance, just can't teach it. The first two ratings are right on. Nice guy, just not a good teacher. Makes things alot more confusing than they already are. Take anyone else for this course.
He might be a good person but he sucks at teaching. My dog can tell real estate principles better than he can. Clemson sure did get a quality guy when they picked him up. Top 20 my ass, not with his teaching styles
He's a guest professor and it will become obvious to you right away. Ramon's a nice guy but he just doesn't know what he's doing. He's very unorganized. Read the chapters BEFORE class, print the slides, and take notes on them during class. I did not like the text book. The chapters take forever to read and are poorly written as well.
He is absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. So unorganized and you have to do all the work yourself. Watch out he will srew you over with homework grades. Make sure you do the quizes online and bring them to class.
This is a very boring teacher. He is extremely unorganized, but he requires you to come to class because he randomly takes up quizzes and homework assignments. However, if you do go to all of his classes and only halfway listen to him, you will generally know what is most likely going to be the most emphasized on the tests. That's the only positive
I haven't even finished taking this course yet and I hate this professor. He is so unorganized and tests are too long and ridiculous. Even by going to class I barely learn anything because he is all over the place. Also, tests are like 90% of the total grade so if you bomb one you are screwed. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS!
this man is a boss, knows his subject very well and makes class fun. Tests are weighted heavily, but they aren't bad if you study well. His lectures agree with the textbook for the most part, so do your reading in addition to coming to class. Highly recommend Franklin
You can tell that he really cares about the subject and students. Sometimes in isn't that clear about somethings. Reading the book helps alot. Overall I have had worse finance/accounting at Clemson and some better. If you show an effort he will help you out though.
Absolute worst professor of my entire career! He was insulting confusing unorganized, you will basically pay $2,000 to teach yourself one of the hardest courses in the program. A vp of finance in my co, a Fortune 500, struggled! I withdrew so I wouldn't ruin my 4.0 with an F! Waiting to take a prof I can actually learn from. Bad for Clemson prog
Professor is very rude and demeaning toward his students. I have never heard someone talk down to students like he did. Even to the point of embarrassment. He is insensitive and impatient towards students who are struggling. Beyond that, he is extremely fast and hyper and confusing.
He gets a bad wrap. He is very passionate, energetic, and knowledgeable. I think he has listened to feedback. His tests were very challenging, but very much related to the assigned work. He was also fair to let you earn points back after the exam. I have very little finance experience and enjoyed his class very much. Challenge yourself here.
Thanks to this professor that now I check rating and student review before taking class with any other professor. He is confused and his exams are Pathetic. I could hardly understand this Professor and this was the Worst class ever. like me if you don't have a choice still don't take a class with this professor rather take an extra semester
Going to class is essential. He will randomly quiz you, sometimes offering bonus points by doing so. The book is terrible, but go to class, read, and do ALL of the assigned homework and you'll know pretty much what the tests will cover. He's a very passionate teacher, so stay engaged and you'll enjoy it too.
Although excitable about the topic, this professor is condescending to his students, is unable to communicate the material clearly, and has difficulty creating tests capable of testings students' knowledge appropriately. The students primarily taught themselves from the book. I REALLY wish I could have taken the course with a different teacher.
Knowledgeable in finance and TRIES to answer questions. Pretty available via email w homework questions. But makes HUGE assumptions about student''s current knowledge and doesn''t convey information clearly. He''s definitely passionate about this material but I get nothing from the class. I''m teaching myself from the book and it''s tough.
Terrible! He was very passionate about the topic but he has no idea how to teach. He goes off on tangents often and is incredibly condescending to his students. Worst class I've taken.
He is very hard to follow during lectures and tests on areas he does not cover. The only reason the class as a whole passed was because he had to add a bunch of fluff points at the end of the semester. I don't recommend taking a finance class with him.
He goes off on tangents and does not know how to teach the class. He is also very rude and doesn't know how to answer questions. He also does not test you on any of the material in your notes or from you homework assignments which makes teaching yourself harder. Absolutely do not take!!
He is an engaging professor. His lectures are good & if you are listening he gives MAJOR hints about what will be on the test. He TRIES to answer questions, but sometimes you just have to pretend to understand so he will stop his tangent. Although finance ,as a topic, is a difficult, he is a professor who genuinely cares if that students do well
Absolutely the worst professor ,I've ever had and cost me graduating on time. Doesn't explain anything well and exams are ridiculously difficult.
Incredibly confusing class, he loves finance but doesn't know how to teach at all. His tests are harder than any of the HW or anything he goes over in class. Only saving grace was the HW, get Chegg and get a 100 on all the HW and can pass the class with a C/B. Recommend taking a different Finance teacher, if you actually want to learn something.
I've always been a fast learner and could grasp difficult concepts after studying. This class was totally different. His lectures made no sense and I could not follow. I worked really hard on the homework and got 100s on every one and outlined every chapter but then there was completely different material on the exams so I didn't do well DONT TAKE
Worst professor ever. I failed this class which made me miss my graduation date and retake it. DON'T TAKE THIS PROF unless you can teach yourself
got 100s on all of the homeworks yet could not pass an exam to save my life. you have to basically have to teach yourself everything out of the text book and that still does not help you. do not take this professor.
Missed my graduation because he wouldn't help, asked for help and said he didn't have time ,tests nothing like what he attempts to teach
I'm awful at finance, but unlike everyone else here, I went to office hours. If you want to be within the good grace of Ramon you need to go to office hours religiously. He's passionate about what he teaches and YES he is confusing during lecture but if you sit with him 1-1 he does care about your well being in the class.
Do not take him. He literally can't teach. He screams in class and no one knows what he is even saying.
Ramon... Ramon... Ramon... If you're planning on taking Finance 3060 with this man--BEWARE! Attendance is mandatory. His test are nothing like what he talks about, so be ready to read that textbook cover to cover and teach yourself. By the Grace of God, I barely passed this class. You'd have to pay me $ to take a class with Ramon again.
Be prepared to teach yourself the whole class or find someone who has the test bank. I had the test bank and still spent hours teaching myself the material. In class he goes off on tangents about random things and yells a lot.
his lectures are all over the place and don't make sense. terrible.
Clemson has zero good Fin professors. If you want to graduate and pass then take it online and try and use chegg as much as possible. Clemson won't spend the money they need to get good professors. So be prepared to fail. He does not make a lick of sense, yells at you when you ask questions, doesn't teach you anything, you will fail. Get out. Now.
He wont give you partial credit at all. Its either do the math all the way right or fail. And he wont let you ask questions, even if theyre just about a word or something, during the tests. If you ask during class he makes you feel dumb. Dont do it. Even in office hours its not helpful. Dont do it. Take it online and chegg it.
He is the worst professor I've had at Clemson. His lectures are confusing and do not follow the textbook. When students asked questions during class he yelled and degraded them for not understanding the material. If I went to his office hours he acted the same way. It was an emotionally draining class. Avoid the stress and take the class online.
Don't do it. Just don't do it. On tests, you just guess and pray the your pencil was guided by the spirit to the right answers. He doesn't give partial credit. Test are around 28 multiple choice with a formula sheet that doesn't help. Lectures are nothing like the tests. Take it online. He does it for a living, just can't teach it. and yells at you
DO NOT DO IT. He is the worst professor I have ever had. Averages on exams are in the 50's. Maybe 3-4 questions that are on the test are talked about in class. He misgraded my project and it took an arm and a leg for him to change it. Please take this class online.
He yells at you and degrades you. He is super inappropriate in class with things he says and towards students. On our in class project he messed it up so the majority of the class got 50's. Won't give partial or extra credit so if you make one mistake you get a super low grade. Tests are nothing like class. Doesnt even teach you how to use the calc
Do not take him. All the professors for FIN 3060 during the semester are horrible, but he is the worst. The hw is nothing like the tests. He doesnt teach in class and doesn't really give examples. He doesn't answer questions and is rude to students. The averages or the tests are in the 40s to 50s. I have not learned a thing the entire semester.
You basically pay to teach yourself, but you can't teach yourself. He is the worst professor I have ever had and I had a professor once who taught a class for the first time and everyone failed except two ppl. Ramon doesn't teach, doesn't give hw or examples like the test, cant answer questions, doesnt give partial credit, is rude. all around bad
If you enjoy being yelled at for getting answers half-correct, not being able to understand a clearly-spoken English but illogical presentation, being spit on, sweated on, not being able to ask questions without getting humiliated, and paying to stress-out & teach yourself a difficult subject for an entire semester then this is the professor 4 U!!!
TAKE THE ONLINE SUMMER CLASS. You can easily get an A in the online summer class, but you'll be lucky to get a D in the lecture. All the Finance 3060 professors are horrible, but Franklin is the worst. He literally does not know how to teach. He'll never work a problem in class and will degrade you if you ask a question. Please don't take him.
This teacher has a terrible rating on this website for a reason. When signing up for classes, I ignored it. BIG MISTAKE. If you are a business minor and need to focus on your major and not a finance class - this is not the class for you! He is not effective at explaining any topic in or out of class. Does not respond to emails. Good luck.
Horrible professor. He is very rude and doesn't mind embarassing you in class. Tests are not anything like what he talks about in class and all he says for help is "read the textbook". He will review your tests with you, but acts like you should know everything you did wrong. I didn't like this class at all. Homework is a huge help so DO IT!
Here's how to pass the class when you can't get into another section: 1) Invest in a Chegg subscription! Get your questions actually answered. 2) Go to class, attendance points will help your grade in the end. 3) Pay attention to the ICA/Connect examples he goes over, they DO help. 4) Find the test bank, you'll need it to pass the exams.
Horrible teacher, he is NOT an actual professor... he has his own job and teaches on the side. He would never tell us when homework was due and would not respond to emails. He is homework focused so do that, and know when their due. HORRIBLE student-teacher relationship. would NOT reccomend
Flat out, he sucks. He is hands down the WORST professor I've been taught by my entire time here at Clemson. Heavily test-oriented/BIG on homework. Has absolutely ZERO remorse for students who are struggling. The best way to describe him is with the Trolly Theory; he would choose the 5 people and circle back around for the other one. HE SUCKS!!
The class consists of a couple of easy projects, exams, connect homework, 5 quizzes, and long lectures. I zone out in the lectures because the material is hard to understand. But if you take his class online, I think you will be fine.
He was not good at explaining things and I don't know if it was just the online format that had him rattled but the lectures were him just yelling at us and looking at stocks rather than solving problems like the homework and tests. He would not budge about homework and was not helpful with questions and would get frustrated easily. don't do it
Professor Franklin is one of the worst professors that I have ever had. While he is a caring person and he gives extra credit, he does not teach the material adequately enough for students to do well on the test. You have to read the textbook in depthly, and learn the material on your own because he expects us to teach ourselves.
Ramon is a absolutely terrible professor. He does not teach the course well. Many people in the class are struggling very bad and it seems as if he does not care. His test are nothing like what you study. This list goes on and on. I would not recommend signing up for this professor is you can help it. He is the absolute WORST!!!!
Worst decision ever taking his class.... do not do it.
Worst teacher ever shouldn't even be at this school.
This class gave me more stress than the rest of my course load combined. I sat through multiple lectures with no idea what he was talking about but I do know that nothing we covered in class was actually on the exams, as well as all of the homework being completely irrelevant to the exams. If your GPA is important to you avoid this class.
Professor Franklin is awful at teaching. He works in finance and Im sure that the material in this class is obvious to him, but he doesnt seem to realize that nobody in this class is a finance major and that the material isnt familiar to us. You cant ask him questions, either, just gets defensive and tells you to figure it out. Dont take him.
WORST professor ever. Drop Now before you get a grade.
will ramble and yell a lot during his lectures. Terrible at explaining most concepts, will breeze through most power points and draw chicken scratch diagrams on the board. Tests are super hard and it's very difficult to know what to study outside of the homework problems, avoid if possible
Ramon Franklin is one of the worst professors I've had at Clemson. He yells and bangs on tables at least once every lecture and blames it on being passionate about finance. He also just reads the slides that are made by the textbook company, which isn't super helpful. He is not super approachable, either.
Reads slides that are made by a textbook company and just reads them word for word. He gives homework and says this is how the test will be, but then the test is all word problems and we have maybe worked out two word problems all year. Worst professor I've had by a mile.
The tests in this class were absolutely ridiculous. There are 5 total tests and they get more difficult every single time. He does not drop any of these exams from the final grade. The expectations are unclear; he emphasizes reviewing the book & homework then the tests are in a different language. Tests are a different language. Does not care.
Professor Franklin is interesting. He will beg the class for interaction or ask questions, but once you do ask a question, he will ramble on about something completely unrelated (Ex: Warren Buffet). His class is extremely difficult, and the lectures don't provide much help. B grade is obtainable in this course. Smart caring man but a bad teacher.
The absolute worst professor I've had. I got all A's the semester I took him besides his class. He assumes everyone knows what to do for the problems and does not teach how to do the problems very well at all. Yells a lot during class and don't ask questions or he will degrade you and make you feels stupid for asking.
Yells and screams, later claiming he's "passionate," but unjustifiable. Often slurs words, phrases, thoughts, or sentences together, makes it impossible to understand where one point ends and another begins. Flips through powerpoints too fast for notes, unintelligible handwriting, singles out students. 40-50% test avg. before curves. Do NOT take.
Read the textbook and do the HW problems and it's really not that hard. He gives like 30 points of extra credit every test because everyone fails.
Worst professor at Clemson. Averages on exams are never above a 60. Avoid at all costs.
I was hesitant to take his class after reading all these negative reviews, but was pleasantly suprised. If you go to class, do your homework, and put in effort, you will pass his class. Yes, the class average on exams is usually low, but when it is, he gives us the opportunity to earn around 30 points back on the assignment.
Don't take Franklin. He screams and doesn't teach. Highest class average on a test was a 60 and his projects were at most 50s. He has 5 tests that get harder and harder and he has to offer extra credit for every single tests. He just reads premade slideshows and doesn't teach any more. Worst teacher in all of my years
These negative reviews about Professor Franklin really don't do him justice. How well you do in the class depends on you. Read, take notes, and do the homework/practice problems. He gives a ton of extra credit after failed tests. He gives you test questions in class if you show up. Really not that bad, just actually give effort.
Worst professor I've had. Exams are impossible to pass with the average being in the 50s. The review questions look nothing like the exam. Even the students at the tutoring sessions are shocked by the questions he asks. He treats us like we already know the information. Exams are worth 70% so the homework barely help your grade. DO NOT TAKE!!!
DO NOT TAKE DO NOT TAKE DO NOT TAKE DO NOT TAKE HE IS TERRIBLE PLEASE IM WARNING YOU THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE DO NOT TAKE HIM
I had to drop this class before the first exam because he did not teach a thing. All he does is yell and gaslights you if you ask a question. Take an online class instead, this is the worst class I have ever had. Does not care about students doing well and just screams at you all class. Worst professor I've ever had.
By far the worst professor I have had in college. He shouts, makes absolutely no sense, and cannot teach worth anything. I put an insane amount of work into the class, constantly taking notes, studying and going to tutoring sessions, but still failed the course. The class average was never above a 60 on exams, and he did not curve exams. AVOID!!!!!
The reviews about Professor Franklin are sad to read as most of them are from bitter students. He is a nice guy who will form connection with his students, talking to them after class and taking an interest in them. If you show up to class, including Friday, & do the homework without Chegg, you will do very well in the class.
By far the worst professor I have had in my entire college career at Clemson. I would not recommend him for 3060 at all. He screams a lot during lectures. He gets frustrated easily when students ask questions and give condescending answers. Per his words, he "does not communicate via email."
Personally, I thought Ramon was a good professor. He is super passionate about people having financial literacy, and he's a good example of someone that can actually teach you applicable things because he actually has worked in finance and isn't just some PhD with no real world experience.
He is the worst professor at this university. If you ask a question prepared to be referred to by 'instructor' Ramon that you're too far gone to help. Its really sad to see somebody that expects you to know alot about finance in an intro course. He is passive aggressive and unapproachable. He's knowledgeable about his topic but a terrible teacher.
Under no circumstance should you take Professor Franklin. His lectures were insane, his handwriting atrocious, and randomly screams and hits things in the classroom to keep your attention. I genuinely don't know how I got an A in this class, it was the single hardest class I've taken at Clemson.
Yaps all class. Screams occasionally. Tests are so difficult and the averages are around 60. Do not take, save yourself while you can.
I care a lot about my grades and have never failed a class until this one. He makes absolutely no sense during lectures and his handwriting is not legible. He goes on rants about random things and then tries to connect them to the curriculum. It's impossible to ask him questions or he will start screaming. Every exam the class average was failing.
He has to be the worst professor at Clemson. All of his lectures are screaming with bragging about his successful career sprinkled in. Avoid at all cost.
I read the textbook, did notes in class, did hw without chegg and re worked them. I did textbook examples and I still managed to fail every exam and when I asked him for advice he said read the textbook backwards. His office hours were almost impossible to go to for the majority of students because it was an hour on a singular day of the week.
Please do not take this class if there is another teacher available. Class average on 1st 2 tests were 45 & 55. Does not teach in a way students understand, makes you feel stupid for asking questions or for help, but he often times cant answer the questions asked. He knows what hes talking about but has no clue how to teach it. Goes off on tangents
Not as bad as some of these reviews say. It is a tough class but read the textbook, take notes in class, and study multiple days in advance and you will be fine. This class is hard no matter who you take, you just have to put in the work. Prof was also very understanding when I had to reschedule an exam due to illness.
I did not struggle in his class but I am very good at math and the topics interested me. If you tend not to pay attention in class and rely on the slides and/or textbook to learn and study outside of class then you won't have an issue. Homework is light, a short assignment once a week. If you need a good teacher then I do not suggest him.
A lot of these reveiws over exaggerate how his class actually is, he is a professor that has had a succesful career before he came to clemson so I think a lot of his tough grading comes from wanting to prepare us for a career in Finance. As long as you study through the homeworks multiple days in advance you will be fine. The class can be tough.
Some of these reveiws are over exaggerated, Mr. Franklin is a good professor who is very passionate about finance since he had a career in finance before. Although it is test heavy, He allowed us to do extra credit to get half points missed on our worst test back. As long as you work through the homework days before the test you will be fine.
Professor Franklin is a great professor who really cares and knows a lot about what he teaches. His exams are not difficult if you prepare well. The only reason someone would give him a bad rating is if they did not study for his exams and received a bad grade. He offers extra credit and in-class projects to help boost grades as well.
He covers material that other finance classes don't, preaching that homework is the best way to prepare for exams. However, the exams are completely different and use a different language from what he teaches. He doesn't even know how the calculators work, so he relies on us to figure it out. He doesn't even know how to solve the problems we gives.
Absolutely awful. Just yells a bunch of nonsense the whole class and calls it teaching. The only way you will do good in this class is if you read the textbook. That is the only reason I got a good grade. He also doesn't want you to email him. Even my advisor had a sticky note in his desk that had a note that said not to take him for this course.
