Professor Ramon is very helpful. He goes out of his way to help anyone in aviation. He has helped me understand the principles of aviation. I thank him very much.
AWESOME GUY
Great teacher. He really tries and you know it. Always willing to help you if you ask.
Just a chode.
awesome teacher...makes learning fun very helpful and all around great guy....much recommended
One of the worst professors, will do anything to stab you in the back. Be weary of his kindness, its only a facade. Most of the class did quite poorly. I currently have only 2 C+'s in aviation one B+ and the rest are A's . Thanks to this professor's sometimes vague instructions on what is to be expected. Class suffered.
Great professor, great guy. There is a lot of information, it's up to you to learn it. The teacher is there to help you learn, not feed it to you. There is a lot of information and not enough time. Study the material before class and then bring in your questions. He's a fun guy but don't waste your time with questions if you didn't read.
Brand new student here. Can't believe this man is a college professor in aviation. (I knew more than he did!) He jerked me around with enrollment and registration. This guy is not a teacher. He's a wanna be. Be nice to him or he'll screw you too.
I don't know how they let this man teach. To my knowledge, he doesn't even have the credentials to be teaching (if that's what you want to call it). I am an A student and this class is killing my drive to do well. It doesn't matter how hard I try. I know this man will never be satisfied with anything I submit.
Very good, help me much. Recomend him any time.
Good Class
Smart, charismatic, fascinating. There is somebody in his life who makes him very happy, you can tell because he is very dedicated to his job. I think he loves his job, I would like farmingdale to get more professors like Mr. G. Love him and his class.
This Teacher gets a bad rap. He really cares and will go out of his way to help you. the class is now set up that everyone automatically gets an "A". im not sure that's a good thing, since flying a plane can cost you you'r life. but he is a good person and a good teacher.
You should attend class with him, BUT, any absence is an excused absence if you contact him ASAP. You can oversleep and as long as you contact him, he will excuse your absence. Very laid back, very nice, great sense of humor. He is more of Flight Major Professor, so Aviation Admin students won't have him much, but I think he does just fine.
online class, his class is pretty much self-run. all you had to do is read a chapter and post a summary before the deadline. if you miss the deadline and post, you would get an automatic D for that post. his midterm and final are challenging. i recommend this class, just be prepared to read, post, and answer before the deadline.
I love his class, learned much on his ethics class. He makes the class fun but you must work hard for your grade. Good looking too!!!! Latin Charm for sure!!
Good class. He knows his stuff. Good looking and charming, for sure, that always helps in a 8 am class.
Gonzalez is pretty easy, and friendly most of the time, his tests can be tough depending on who you talk to, 10 tests a semester as many as 50 questions, 1 test for each chapter. Its alot but theres also alot of extra credit. He seems to have a bad memory, i understand he has alot of students but he never remembered my name.
Good teacher. Very helpful and knowledgable. Listen careful, you'll remember his words in the future. BTW: Good looking too.
the class is a joke. it got added to the curriculum on a whim and because the prof whined to the dept about how important an ethics class is. you will learn nothing and have to be there by 8am as an added problem. Trying to teach a half baked ethics class is truly a waste of time to both parties
This professor is not helpful at all. He could be classified as a hypocritical ego-maniac who just loves to hear himself talk. He fought for this class to be added just so he could work on his research dissertation and always looking to take a vacation using the class to get an exotic field trip approved. Steer clear if you can.
Avoid taking him. He is just annoying and way too demanding.
He isn't clear about the only paper that is due in this class. And add the fact that he picks your group members for the class as an added bonus. he first exam is closed book and final is open book. when he speaks to you he thinks he's better than you. And he is never wrong so don't question him. overall just do the work and avoid him at all cost.
The guy literally will walk out of class and not come back for half an hour. I just sit in the back and watch youtube videos. I have no clue what is going on in this class. Extremely disorganized. Everything is online and the actual classes are a waste of time!
Not good. You will be working on the same slide of his slideshow presentation for weeks. I learned nothing in the class I didn't already know. He tries to make himself look like he knows it all and is better than you but he isn't. Worst professor in the program.
I LOVE Gonzalez, he is one of the best Aviation professors around. Always willing to help out, and he's smoking hottttt!!!!!!!!!
run and run fast. have never experienced a teacher as bad as him. Dosent like to help students. chooses your group for the term paper and dosent help in any issues. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
Great professor, I also have him as my academic advisor, he truly cares make sure you do the right thing by him
Im in the AVN admin program and graduating this may (15'). I have taken multiple classes with Gonz and each class will give you different problems. He is not clear at all and his English is broken. As long as you dont piss him off hes a nice guy but that wont help your grade. He knows how to conduct class but doesnt try. Unavoidable if your AVN!!!
He is one of the worst peopleprofessors I have ever had the displeasure of meeting, avoid taking this class at all costs.
He changes his mind every two seconds. He assigns a large group paper that we finished a month early which he said was "the best in the class." The due date came and he graded it with a 60. He didn't read it and lied to us. We made the exact corrections he listed for us and he said it was worse. We then changed it back to the original and got an A.
Ever want to flip a desk over in frustration after someone contradicts themselves in way that has a negative impact on you? No? The answer to your prayers is here... please enjoy your time here at Farmingdale state college.
Miserable
This is the type of person who would write a good review for himself on this website. The class has no point to it, he would show up 25 minutes late every class and he didn't teach when he was there. Very tough grader as well.
Don't take this class.
The professor told our class to email him anytime and he always checks his email. I emailed him 6 p.m. and he has not answered. This was about a midterm as well so by midnight, if I did not hand it in, i would fail the midterm. He also goes completely off topic every class and we learn very minimal items.
Very nice guy, he cares a lot about morals and cares about what he teaches. Very knowledgable but easily gets off track. Avn history requires a group of 3 (ur choice) to do 1 powerpoint per group and present. When others are presenting u write a quick summary and get an A. Very easy class and we all joke around. He can get cranky when ur rude.
I've had him 2X now and both times I'm wasn't a fan. My main problem with him is that he has too many unrealistic expectations. I consider myself a good student but I had too try a little too hard to do well. Seeing as he's one of the main professors in the AVN curriculum, there's no dodging him, just do exactly as he says and give 100% if you can.
Has a huge ego! Loves to hear himself talk, gave little valuable feedback. Gets angry if you question him too much. Seems to not want to waste time with anyone who can't improve his position or is not interesting to him. Avoid if possible.
Had him for meteorology. Heard he's different for every class but for this class he's super chill. The puts everything on blackboard! All the quizzes based on the chapters are online (Quizlet). Midterm was optional if you had a 90+ on each quiz. Lectures are boring and he skips through slides but still an easy class. 2nd half is METARS and in class
The class in general is pointless, and so is his teaching, 90% of the lectures could be accomplished with an email saving you a trip, Don't expect to learn anything in AVN201 unless it's about poor professors and how they operate. Would not take again unless I fail the class, who knows!
In AVN 201 he doesn't teach the class at all. You MUST have the textbook to teach yourself for the two exams (Midterm, Final). If you do not prepare with the textbook you will fail. Again he doesn't teach so you must do it yourself. If can avoid, however you might not be able to for the flight program.
Great Guy, the paper is hard and working with a group can be difficult. Although, his class is fun and the material is not difficult if you read the textbook. The tests are also extremely easy if you pay attention, take good notes, and study. The only problem with the class is the essay.
I've had Gonzalez 3 times and I've always gotten an A. But, believe me when I say that you're going to have to work for it. Although he's become less strict he still has his moments. There are also times when he's been wrong (according to the FAA) and I've told him but he always thinks the students wrong. He's probably a nice guy outside of class.
Class isnt that bad. Only hard part is the paper. Pick your group wisely for the 30 pager and also pick a topic that you can find peer reviewed sources easily on as those are the only sources you are allowed to use. Doesn't weight the paper heavily. Got a B+ in the course even with a poor paper grade. Tests are easy just read the book.
No tests, just online journals which are just 300 words each. Based off a small book to read from and class presentations. Everything is submitted to blackboard. The only thing hard about this course was the research paper. 10-15 pages about any topic and only could use the school database. Never wrote a professional paper in my life.
The majority of the class is submitting journals and assignments through blackboard. He gives a research paper that he doesn't explain thoroughly and grades rigorously . This paper can make or break you . Lastly attendance matters so make sure you are not late. Good luck
The class is called aviation safety ethics. I learned nothing about aviation. It is mainly a class about his personal philosophy. Not one assigment was relevant to my field of study. The 15 page paper was on a topic of my own choice. Anyway, he would spend large portions of the class ranting about trump. Which is funny because he is not American.
He does not grade anything on time and is not true to his word in regards to assignment dates and posting lecture slides on blackboard, for example. Unfortunately, there are no other option for students in this major so you just have to be on his good side and hope he gives you a good grade!
In meteorology, he has us do about 15 quizzes in class on the lectures throughout the semester. 90% of the time, he words the questions poorly to where he has to change the correct answer on the quiz due to all of the confusion. He is usually generous about your overall grade and exempts the quizzes if you do well on the midterm/final though.
One of the worst professors I have ever taken. He does not know what he is talking about most of the time. EASILY gets carried away and starts talking about his life. Lots of useless assignments and a HUGE 25 page research paper, which he grades according to whatever is in his head at that time. Learned NOTHING in his class. Just horrible.
Simply, the WORST! Safety Ethics is so pointless for the Pro Pilot Program and he is just horrible. He doesn't help you at all with the ridiculous group research paper. I feel like an English major. He also has no idea what he is talking about the whole time. It really is a shame I have to take multiple classes with a professor like him.
Has us buy 3 textbooks Ive barely used. Class conversations are full of tangents.. kept delaying the research paper date because he said not to do it unless we get it critiqued by him first. He is a kind individual but this class does not have a lot to do with safety ethics and deals more with psychology aspects ie morality
If you take him, be aware of what is expected of you. Sometimes he might get distracted, but, he does his part as a professor. Just stay on his good side, do the work, participate, and importantly do your best on the writings, you should do just fine. Many students found him to be a tough professor, just simply follow the syllabus and you're fine.
I don't know how this guy is a college professor. He doesn't even know what he's saying most of the time and has to ask the students questions frequently regarding the material. His due dates are all over the place and caused my group to delay the research paper bc he took forever to critique it. HE IS HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE HIM! HORRIBLE!!!
In Meteorology, he normally has to ask the class about whatever weather topic he's teaching because he doesn't know it himself. 15 quizzes and a midterm and final. Midterm is just verbatim questions from previous quizzes and the final you have to decode a METAR which I doubt he can even do, honestly. Also NEVER responds to emails.
I took the online course, he had a clear grading on the discussion boards and gave chances for us to correct them. He participated weekly on our discussion boards with advice. The midterm and final you need to know the textbook for. It was not a hard class, it was online so youre graded by just discussion boards and two exams. Not a tough grader.
I do not understand the neg reviews about him. I took the class online, and even though he is technically not prepared for remote learning, he tries his best. One group research paper which I'm not a fan of, simple in-class discussions so participation matters, 1-2 page papers due every 2-3 weeks. Class is easy if you hand in work and participate
This Professor shows a lack of understanding of how to actually "teach". His Grading Criteria is fluid, and if you're politically on the left it means extra points for you! In the rubric for specific papers, criteria was followed but he felt it wasn't "correct", even after finding substantial proof. Be prepared to write like your life counts on it.
Do your reading, don't be lazy, follow the rubric and the syllabus, it is that simple. Those who did not follow the basic requirements failed the course or got a bad grade. Please read the syllabus and follow the grading criteria, you will get the grade you want. It is not hard.
had things that arent my control but involved going on yet he penalized me. At least he explain ethics which is what class is about. He makes us do a lot of writing and use the writing textbook which isnt necessary. He also made us get a third textbook that probably nobody ever uses. He writes lots of errors on assignments and it be stupid too.
Does not teach at all. Pointless teacher. Waste of time. Gets paid to hand out long assignments, does not help or explain assignments well either. You will have a miserable time in his class, can't hear him at all, but then again, theres no point because he doesn't teach anything useful. You will basically have to learn everything yourself.
I had to take AVN 201W for my major. I loved this class because Professor was very understanding and easy to work with. As long as you do all assignments and follow the rubric you will get an A in this class. Professor doesn't give any homework over the weekend and that's how his due dates are set. If you are not lazy, you will get an A.
It's obviously a writing class so be prepared to write every week. He isn't a bad guy at all, I would even go as far to say that he would be a great guy to grab a beer at the bar with, but in my opinion, teaching may not be his forte. His assignments are okay, just tedious.
Great teacher had him for two of my classes. Strict but in a good way. Don't be afraid to take his classes he's not as bad as they say. Id take another class of his if I had to. Meteorology was a better class than the writing intensive for sure!
Useless class. He does not teach. Talks about ethics all class, yet does not follow it himself. Tells you to do something but then punishes you for doing it cuz he does not remember he told you to do this. Please do not take him if you can. I grew like five gray hairs because of this guy.
Great teacher, the energy he puts into the class will match what the students puts out. If we are confused or feel like he wasn't clear on something, he will take the time to clarify. No homework, quizzes are not difficult and he's flexible if students are having issues with overall course loads.
Complete waste of time. Learning objectives were unclear and "lectures" were incoherent and directionless. The final research paper is overly complicated and he grades it too harshly. The other writing assignments are manageable. Don't get the two other textbooks he assigns aside from the reading, you will never use them. Sadly, he is unavoidable.
A great guy. Manageable papers. Didn't really gain too much from the lectures. Not a super easy grader however, but wasn't overly harsh. Make sure you follow the writing rubrics.
Great professor, took him the semester we went online because of covid. He's pretty strict, but fair in how he runs his class. Work with him and you'll be fine. Has great stories to tell.
No tests! Got rid of research project! He can be confusing with assignments, and you don't learn much in class. Not the easiest grader, but it's not terrible. Follow the rubric and clarify questions in class, and you'll be fine. It's a pretty easy class now without the research project or tests. Book can be found free online, you'll need it.
No tests, got rid of research project! Doesn't really teach anything in class, assignments can be confusing. Ask clarifying questions in class and follow the rubric and you'll be fine. Book can be found free online, you'll need it every once in a while.
I found this class quite difficult. I emailed him several times and he wouldn't reply for weeks. I had a lot of questions about a current homework and I ended up having to turn it in before he answered leading to a bad grade. He told us to reply to classmates but didn't say it couldn't be done in one day it had to be throughout the week. AVOID!
Gonzalez is a good guy if you get to know him. His class was graded on the 6 CAT assignments which were very tough, but he worked with us toward the end of the semester and helped all of us boost our grades.
Very helpful and easy to understand
Great Professor very understanding and care about his students, will take again.
This guy is okay as long as you do everything he expects, the problem is his expectations are pretty high. Don't be absent to his class at all, don't miss or barely try on a single assignment because he grades incredibly harshly. Unfortunately you don't have a choice but to take him for AVN students, I'm just here to tell you what to expect.
This was a writing intensive elective, you can't convince me otherwise. The assignments were 4x 200 - 250 word discussion forums weekly, 12 weeks. Some times he'll give an A, other times he'll give an F, you never know what satisfies what he is looking for in your writing. Take another AVN elective to satisfy credits.
Terrible professor good god. The workload he assigns is extremely unbearable and he's very nit-picky with the grading too. He'll be very specific with what he wants and then when you do it, he finds something to make an issue out of nothing. He's inescapable bc he's the only prof for the course but just thug it out and you'll be fine.
Terrible professor. Never think about student how they will do well. very arrogant and angry. He doesn't have patience to answer your question. He went over the whole course very fast the course He doesn't even know, what he is doing. Unrelated questions, most of them not even from book. He tells something and do something else. Don't take him.
This professor is hands down one of the worst I've encountered in my many years in college. He grades as if it's Harvard university, and on top of it, it's inconsistent. One weeks assignment you'll get a B+, the next week you get an F, even though you did quite literally the same exact thing. When you contact him for help, he doesn't help.
Class was difficult and at many times I believed he didn't even know what he was talking about and was just reading slides. I had no other options previously but I believe he is allowing other professors that will likely do a better job to teach. Take anyone else for this course. Grades are 2 tests and participation.
The only grades are the midterm, final, and "participation". He gives a few practice quizzes for the midterm, but none for the final. Even if you understand the material, you will struggle on the final because the questions are complicated and unclear. He reads off slides for the whole hour and he's very quiet and gets distracted. Unprofessional.
Despite some of the negative reviews, I loved Dr Gonzalez, he only grades off of 2 tests which isn't ideal but they are both online, he was a G and let us take the final online from home. He is very passionate about teaching meteorology, and definitely knows his stuff. I would recommend him.
