He gives lots of work, but is very knowlegable and approachable. Textbook was optional, saving me around $160. He made his powerpoint slides (topic outlines and key points) avaiable to the class making catching up on a missed class easier.

Took this as easy cred, I was a CS student in college transferred to Arts at UBCO. This is CS for arts students. He is a great prof, but unfortunately I can't stand his teaching style... giving out candy and generally making me feel like I'm back in HS. Too cheery for 9am. But that's just me. Best prof/class i have taken. he lays everything out for you and tells you almost exactly what he will test on. for anyone needing credit in arts or management i highly recommend. attend almost all lectures put a bit of work in and you will get an A no problem. this was my highest mark i have ever received and i am a second year student! great guy

Very helpful and interesting course materials. His course can be difficult if one does not have any knowledge about computer, but should be able to pass. Textbook PDF file is available for free on his website, but Clicker purchase is required. Textbook is also available from campus bookstore, but does not cost much. Maybe few bucks

One of the nicest guys out there. It's obvious he loves what he does and passes that enthusiasm to his students as well. I'm not the most tech-savvy person out there, but by the time the class was done, I was able to design a web-page by myself. A definite GPA booster as well.

Basically an amazing prof. Cares so deeply for students. The class isnt the easiest so it helps when the prof wants you to do well, so will go the extra mile to do so. Would take another course with him, but i hate computers! Do take this as a science credit if you do need it!

I could tell from the very first day that Ramon really wants his students to LEARN. Dr. Lawrence is a great professor who really cares about his students education. He makes his own text book so it's cheap and well thought out. All lecture slides are posted online but if you miss class you will miss a chance to get candy as he always has candy with him. Midterms are fair but finals can be challenging so read the notes.

Ramon is by far the best professor I've had at UBCO. The only lectures where I actually leave having learnt everything taught. He is clearly a master of his field. You can really tell that he is not lazy when designing lessons and he makes everything count. I would pay double tuition to have Ramon teach all of my computer science classes.

I can't think of a single bad thing about this class. Ramon makes sure you learn the things that really matter about each subject, but also gives you a quick overview of everything you could learn yourself. His work ethic is insane. Every test and assignment was marked in days. Gave candy for answering questions. Take any class offered by this man.

Very clear about what we need to know for exam. Highly approachable. The only downside would be the multiple choice in the exam how many of them are true. But they dont worth much. He is probably one of the best prof in CS. His teaching is really good and he provided a lot of resources as well. Midterms were fair but final was way challenging but thats probably due to the current cohort scoring way higher on the midterms than the previous years.

Dr. Lawrence is my favorite professor at UBCO. I never miss a lecture if I can help it. His slides are informative and are flagged for importance. I find his teaching style to work well with my learning style. I advise students from all majors to take any or all of his classes, if able to.

In-class participation marks (iClicker) but don't have to answer all of them to get 100%. Amazing lectures with in-class practice questions (and candy). Assignments will prepare you for the exam. Large group project - will take A LOT of time but isn't worth much. 2 midterms and a final, get a better exam mark and he'll replace it. Amazing prof.

Definitely one of the best professors on campus, everything you need to learn the material is available to you, both in class and on his website. If you want to study, you'll be able to. He posts practice assignments and uploads solutions to every question on his slides after the class. Great professor, 100% would take again.

The course was demanding, but it's a third year course and you are provided everything you need to succeed. It was well taught and I learned a lot. Lecture time was well used and all the assignments were helpful and encouraged learning. It is not difficult to succeed if you put in the effort and the material is both important and interesting.

Dr. Lawrence is the best! Even in an online format, his class was highly organized and was very worthwhile to attend. Online school is enjoyable when classes are of the same quality as Dr. Lawrence's.

The best professor you can get in UBCO honestly, possibly in your lifetime. He know what he's talking about. Entertaining class and often join in on the jokes presented by students. Assignments are similar to real life task as if you're working in a working environment. It's challenging but very rewarding if it's done properly. Open book test too!

Ramon's an excellent prof and this is a super important course. I asked him in the pre-semester summer if I could use NodeJS on the backend. He got his TAs to build the part of the course because it is a relevant library! Only improvement I would recommend, would be to update the slides because some are ambiguous due to technical jargon.

Dr. Lawrence is an incredibly good professor, with clear knowledge on the class topics. Multiple choice sections of tests are impossible and the long answer questions are graded in a way that large mistakes and small mistakes are graded with similar weight. By far the worst part was spending 3-4 hours getting the lab to work each week.

Prof Ramon is an amazing prof. You learn a lot in the course, but his summary lectures, clicker questions, and assignments help you understand the content a lot easier. He gives out lots of bonus points on assignments. He even hands out candy for answering questions during class.

I would pay quadriple the tuition if all the compsci courses are taught by Ramon. This prof is a legend. His lab assignments are really hard because I remember myself doing 10 questions lab for 2-3 days just standing on one questions for 5 hours literally. However, please take this course with RAMON. This man is so amazing, I'm very thankful he was my professor for both 304 and 404. Honestly, the only reason I was up before 8am on a Tuesday or Thursday. Also, honestly, I wouldn't even mind if he adopted me, seriously.

i only had first-year programming experience, but his lectures were incredible--they included everything u needed to know for the tests. u can also tell he cares about his students & tries everything to help us succeed. the project was tough, but u get to work with 3 other ppl. his exams are fair, and you'll be solid if u read the lecture slides!

Great prof! I really enjoyed this class especially the first few weeks where we would do lots of in class Prarielearn practice. It was valuable! Labs/project are relevant and useful. The tests were fair but not easy, disliked the multiple choice format. Last few weeks did seem a little dragged out. Most relevant info is in the first 5 weeks.

With Ramon, you get out of it what you put into it. Recommend going to all lectures and taking them seriously, as Ramon found a great way to make lectures engaging and useful. Cares about students as well.

An excellent professor. He has good assignments and tests, fun and interactive lectures, and overall provides a number of methods to learn and engage with the material. The content is useful and practical, and the tests are realistic and you do them in a computer so you can try your SQL commands. Great prof, worth doing any course he teaches.

He is a very nice professor who cares about teaching the students rather than punishing them for doing bad in a class. This also ends up making the class a little too easy to get a high grade which might mean you will not really learn anything but if you put effort in yourself it is a very fun and interesting class.

Great balance of content and more interactive/practice components, which are particularly useful as someone not majoring in COSC.
