this is the best proffessor. he is not easy, but you will definetly get it. the
very unorganized and unprepared, would constantly mess up doing problems in class.
Proffeser's english proficcency limited. Good balancing equation though. Really seXXXy
Proffeser's english proficcency limited. Good balancing equation though. Really seXXXy
Proffeser's english proficcency limited. Good balancing equation though. Really seXy
Very nice, helpful. However, would constantly mess up doing problems in class, and he would do SO MANY of them. His classes are sleepers...
Easy class if you study his notes.
This class is easy and all you have to do is show up for the test reviews and the test dates. Besides that he's somewhat funny and it's just a really simple class.
Really easy test
He omits your lowest test score. He really wants you to get a good grade. The test are not that hard. He allows a "cheat sheet" for every test. Recommend.
This class is a joke!!! I only showed up for the 3 tests and got a B in the class. I didn't even have to take the final!
very easy. I just went to the reviews and the tests.I tried to go to the class but he is so boring, but it is ok there is no need.He puts the notes online, and you can bring notes to the test. I didn't even take the last test and I got a B- in the class b/c he drops a grade.
funny professor, pretty easy, all test multiple choice,
He is not a great lecture professor and throws trick questions on the exam (thats are not in the book or his lecture) and expects you to know it since he allows a tiny cheat sheet. This course might destroy my GPA. If your a premedical student I wouldnt recommend him unless you dont mind getting a B, if so take him!
He's a very nice professor and he always tries to make you laugh in class. Make sure to go to class, study his notes, work out problems and you'll pass. He does give review tests before an actual exam. He's very fair when it comes to tests, if the class does bad he'll add points. He's always willing to help if you approach him about it.
His class was a breeze. Well ofcoure you need to study..but other than that the tests are not like SUPER HARD. He is very layed back..and sais some funny RANDOM spanish comments. I passed with an A- .
Awsome teacher. You must take his if are going to take a scinece class. Lectures are very intreasting, he is very helpfull when you neeed help, and sometimes says funny things.
funny guy and his class is so easy, that you'd be a ****ing idiot if you failed it

Awesome, he was fair and I learned a lot. Funny and not afraid to help
He was a great teacher for none science majors, as I am personally not interested in learning more than I did in that class.
Great professor. If you are satisfied with the 1st three exams (as far as a final grade goes, since it's based on 3 exams) you don't have to take the final.
Funny and nice. Lectures are all put online. Attendence not required but useful for test reviews! Study a little, easy B, study some more, easy A.
great professor...always willing to help. lectures may be boring at times but really knows his stuff and can explain it well. funny guy too...one of the nicest and most genuine teachers at fiu. if u fail his class then ure stupid cause the material is easy
He is a very good teacher. Makes class easy because he reads right off of powerpoints that he posts on his website. He is very clear spoken and is very easygoing
Super nice teacher, funny jokes, and willing to help with any problems you may have. He knows his stuff and tries to make it as simple as possible. There are three exams, lowest grade dropped, and final is optional.

Very interesting teacher. Keeps student interested and will go out of his way to help you understand everything that is taught. Tests are pretty straight foward. Do the practice tests and you will be fine.
i've never found chemistry to be insteresting/easy/cool, and struggled in high school to pass. I didnt find the lectures to be helpful b/c they were too fast for me, but i tried on my own, since he puts the notes on internet, and got a B. considering i suck at chem and i'm kind of slack thats pretty good. 3 tests, drops the lowest, and a final...
He gives 4 tests, drops the lowest. Lets you use a "cheat sheet" on exams. I showed up to class 4 times, 3 tests and the 1st day, and got a B in the class =)
Love him.. love the class..but hated test..do-able but hard to pass.. he curves so its ok.. no matter what you will pass...thats for sure..by the way hes really funny
Really nice prof, its just that the class is a tad retarded. he reads straight from notes that are on his website, give u practice quizzes with answers, the tests are ques from those quizzes, and he lets u bring a cheat sheet to the test (so if you fail there is something wrong with you!). Take him- it can't get any easier
He is an awesome teacher. Very nice, funny person and the class is easy. Just study a little before the tests. I recommend him to anyone!
Really good teacher, funny, doesn't make you go to sleep - actually made me interested in Chemistry. His tests are fair, he gives you practice quizzes from earlier years that are practically the same. Tests are straight from the notes he has online. If you go to class, he will explain any questions you may have.
Nice guy, can be really funny, though often messes up when doing problems. Print the PowerPoints he posts on his website before going to class; otherwise, you can't follow him. Hard tests (multiple choice), often confusing, but nice curves. Not bad overall, but if you can take Joens, take Joens.
Nicest guy and really funny...the class is actually NOT as easy as all these people are saying!! Tough material and tests can be hard. He curves but u have to study alot to do well!!
SO MUCH BETTER THAN WINKLE!!! He's a great professor, down to earth, and has a great sense of humor. Awesome guy in general and his class is generally easy, and difficult to fail! Unless you're a brainless monkey or don't go to class...either or.
This is the walking "Idiot's Guide to General Chemistry". He makes everything seem really easy and makes class interesting. His tests are very reasonable as long as you study. I highly recommend him. Super easy to get an A without much effort!
well first of all you dont have to go to lectures cuz he reads the powerpoints off the internet, he lets you use a cheat sheet on the test, and his grading scale is so easy that a 75% is a B. This is a good class to take and you will pass!!!!
He is very excited about chm which makes you more interested. Tests are hard so you do have to study ALOT!!! he curves, but not much. he makes cheesy jokes in class but overall is VERY helpful if you do office hours or questions during class. he is willing to explain anything that you dont get. take him!
He puts about 100 ?'s online before a test and uses 40 of them word for word. Never have to go to lectures (doesnt take attendance) all you have to do is memorize those ?'s. Curves A LOT and drops the lowest grade. If you do go to lectures, they can get a little confusing cause hes all over the place but he's funny. Just 3 exams, thats it. Nice guy
Really easy teacher. If you aren't a science major, this is your professor. His class is real easy, and he gives you alot of material to study with. If you fail his class you're just plain dumb.
He has a VERY BIG curve for his tests (curve=the number right TIMES 2.5 PLUS 10 points). The final is optional. Very easy class. He's understanding that students are only there to meet the science credit. I didn't buy the text book and i have a B.
Found it MUCH easier than Chem 1, he's the one to take it with. Very huge curves and messes up on all exams so bonus points up the a**! The class cannot be any easier considering its chemistry.
Good teacher...huge curves and barely have to go to class...recommend to all non science majors who need a credit.
Tests are challenging but curves way too much. easy class.
This class was super easy. Print out the slides from online, highlight, study and an A you will get.
He is extremely easy... only went to class day of test and i got a 98 in the class. barely used the book (dont have to buy). he lets you use a cheat sheet and all the questions are online. just go to test with cheat sheet and thats it . HUGE CURVE, DROPS FINAL TEST IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR GRADE. TAKE HIM!!!!
Awesome class. I never went to class at all, never bought the book, and he lets u use a cheat sheet during the test, u can write w/e u want on the paper and most of the time u can talk to the person next to u during the test since the classroom is so big.
Nice teacher makes learning interesting. Curves in the exams. Practice exams for preparation.
He's really great his class is easy as long as you dont slack off. he funny and makes class dont seem so long.
easiest chem teacher! curves tests, drops questions if they are unfair, and does everything to make everyone pass. easy A if you pay attention and go to class.
he is soo funny!! the class goes by so fast because he is really into his class. there is 3 tests and 1 final not hard at all! but you need to study
He does the class very entertaining and easy. you don't need the book. the notes online are enough and he allows you a sheet paper in the test and it is important to review the practice test. at least 60% of the real test questions are there. it is really easy. an easy A for non-science majors.
I took him online. I never looked at a single class note, or did the quizzes (which do not count for anything). I ended with a B in class because it was easy. If you just read over the chapter you'll be okay. His notes are useless... and he takes FOREVER to return emails. 60-74 gives you a C in class!! IMPOSSIBLE to FAIL! Drops lowest of four exams... if you are okay with grade before final, then the last exam is optional!
He was a great professor. He keep class entertaining and was extremely helpful if he showed to office hours. But the class did still require a lot of studying!!!!
took this class over the summer even though many people warned me not to...the professors were nice but not the best when it came to teaching...but very helpful if you needed help outside of class. Definetly easier than Chm1046!!!! I would recommend him!
Great teacher. He cares about his students and will help you even though he has 100+ other kids in the class. He keeps class interesting by cracking jokes and being funny. Nevertheless, class requires studying.
great teacher! always willing to help and funny! he actually makes chemistry enjoyable which is almost impossible..he posts up the lectures and helps review for tests so no one is lost..if u can, take him!:)
GREAT TEACHER!!!!!!
SO easy! nice man. dont buy the text. dont go to class if u dont want to. print the notes review them and u have a guaranteed a
Nice guy, but you have to teach yourself for most of the stuff. His tests are fairly easy if you just study the material. He is always helpful, and curves tests.
Yes, really nice guy, does say jokes, but he is kinda lazy...post notes late..lol barely in his office hours! yes, he might be the easiest chm teacher, but you have to teach your self the material..kinda stressful..if all u need is chm 1 take him!!!..but if u need chm 2 i would take graves for chm1 so you learn the material well to prepare for chm2
Class was super easy. I never even went and passed the class with a B. He gives 3 exams and a final. final is optional since he drops lowest test score. You can also bring a page of notes. GREAT Professor !
He's easy but so boring.I can't pay attention at all, so I stopped going completely. All I do is read the chapter and I'm fine. He does tell jokes but they aren't that great. Take it if you are not planning to move on into chemistry 2.
The tests are extremelly easy if you do all the assigned problems and read the chapter. Dr. Lopez is always available to help students. The final came out of old tests and was extremelly easy. His lectures are kindda boring but the tests are multiple choice so its worth it. I highly recommend him!!!

Easy class but you have to do everything by yourself. 3 exams and optional final. Dr. lopez is never in his office but he's always willing to help his students. Oh also if you expect the exams back on time then forget it. We got our first exam a nibth after we took it and the 2nd and 3rd the day before the final. He is disorganized but k teacher.
Ok he is the easiest chemistry prof in FIU and he does curve. However, he is a terrible teacher. Disorganized and very sloppy overall. Your textbook will become your best friend in this class. Tutoring will also help a lot. His final is extremely easy though.
STAY AWAY! Dont say I didn't warn you. this professor is so lost in organic chemistry that I dont know why he is still teaching, he couldn't care less. His exams are hard to the point where he doesnt even know the right answer.
You have to know the book, and going to class is helpless...but if you do all the problems and know all the concepts you should get an A. Exams are not easy but anybody can get an A as long as you keep up with the material, if you study the day prior to the exam then you will FAIL. ORGO is not easy. Dr. Lopez is a bit lazy and disorganized.
Horrible professor, he makes things complicated, exams are very confusing, a big no-no.
Not a good professor, very lazy and disorganized
Worst professor in the world. Orgo is not an easy class, and you do have to study a lot but this professor is so unfair, dont take him.
WILL NEVER TAKE HIM EVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE.
The professor tries his best to be fair when it comes to throwing out questions and giving curves. However, there wouldn't be a need for this if he were to design the questions himself. They're from the text test bank & some are not of great quality or we have not been prepared for. Definitely DO NOT take during summer in 6 weeks!
He is the worst Prof. ever, he does not help at all.
Worst professor i have ever had...do yourself a favor and never take him!!!! Extremely disorganized, has no care for his students, and you will not get the grade you deserve. NEVER EVER take him!!!!
Worst orgo professor ever period. Dont take him, he doesnt curve crap, he doesnt have a clue about orgo.
OMG!!I hate this prof...very unfair you wont get the grade you desserve, and good luck guessing what random crap will be on the test, not what he says is going to be on, thats for sure
He is a very fair professor. Guess the students who commented before me didnt actually take the time to study. he drops an exam and even curved the final. He is available at his office to help you and is extremely polite and entertaining. He has a great sense of humor and even takes off unfair questions on the exam. I would reccomend him.
Dont take him, he's horrible
He is a very unfair professor, he curved 12 points on one exam, and he said he had curved in the spring the other class 21 points. He takes questions off the exam that are wrong, not the unfair ones. He barely curved the final, which was very hard and was worth 200 points. I studied my ass off for this class and this guy is an ass****.Dont take him
Hes a really nice guy, hes just pretty unintelligible as a professor. He makes logic jumps and assumes you know certain chem concepts that I atleast didn't always know. His tests are based on the old tests so just study those and you should at least pass.
this guy doesnt know what orgo is...totally useless professor, dont take him if u want to do good.
I don't know why everyone here is so overjoyed with this professor, he is horrendous. Horrible class!Drop while you can.
run while you can!
Also took him for intro to analytical chem. One of the worst professors i've ever had. Reads from powerpoint notes for lecture, and makes tons of errors when going over problems (which he openly attributes to his not really knowing the material). Also incredibly unorganized.
BORING! Never went to class only for the final. If you want a cooler teacher get Winkle. But if you have no choice like me, he's not so bad. Classes consist of him reading over powerpoints that are already on his website. Allowed to make a cheat sheat to bring to every test.
He is the worst of the worst...totally hate him
Nice guy always making jokes but as a professor I don't recommend him. Jumps around while teaching then his tests are random material that u don't know what to exactly study for. If u could avoid taking him I would.
I think this guy woke up one day and said "I think I'll be an organic chm professor today". Test questions are completely random and he is just bad...
I made an "A" just barely, since he didn't curve, only since I averaged 92 or above for his tests. He just lectures from the powerpoints and does a boring job at it. I like chemistry but this class was more boring than it could have been for sure!
Nice guy but poor lecturer.Class not the hardest, but getting good grade is challenging.Course is poorly structured. Lots of material thrown with insufficient preparation for tests. 45% of my 200-student class was repeating the course.Still, only 9 got A,40 B,80 C,30 D,and 35 F. Orgo profs should take some pointers from Dr. Graves and Dr. Swamy.
Took as a repeat during summer A. Flew through the chapters to have 2 classes to review, didn't curve exam bc we were at his normal average. Late on releasing exam scores. There are better professors but he's not te worst. Read, study, do all problems. The book becomes your best friend. Not impossible but good luck! Organic is hard no matter what.
Cannot lecture at all. Speaks english w/o accent, but he has no knowledge of Org Chem. His tests are difficult, they?re a random set of questions, that he doesn't know the answer to. There is no way to know what to study, you have to know everything. Sometimes the right answer is not even there, only if someone notices, he gives everyone the point.
This isn't an easy class to begin with. So it's important to go in with the mentality that you'll have to work hard for your grade and your more than likely going to have to teach yourself. Organic Chm is not something that can really be taught, you must read; use the class as a reinforcement. I tried hard, learned little, and earned a solid B.
Amazing professor and person. Extremely helpful in office hours. Study hard for Orgo II, but go to class to see what he will and will not put in exams. I am very grateful to have had him as a professor again. :)
This professor is a real wannabe! He doesnt go by his guidelines, puts things on his exam that he doesnt tell you or teach and he is such a lazy person in general. Thinks he is funny and cracks jokes that are corny. Teaching method is p.p, ask him some questions on what he teaches...i dare you, he wont be able to answer them without making excuses!
He is not the best lecturer, but is extremely kind and even funny. His exams (for CHM-1046) were fair with no trick/over complicated questions and can actually be easy if you study the lecture notes and practice exams he posts on his website.
He is an okay professor. He makes a lot of errors making his tests. He does curve on the other hand and he's approachable(does not bite)
Very good teacher
Great Prof I would take him again in a minute.
Pros: he's nice and exams are easy. Cons:Not a good teacher. Biggest problem my class had was with the final. All his exams were easy but the final was ridiculous. Questions on the final were never seen by us before. It was really unfair. If you have a choice take someone else.
Boring professor, reads directly from slides, sometimes goes off-topic, but he's very helpful and he tells you exactly what is on the tests, so listen up! Also somewhat humorous
Extremely funny guy. His practice tests are his old tests, which are his new tests. He really cares about your understanding and is really good at explaining with A LOT of anecdotes. If I could I would take him again. He has insane curves too.
He is very nice and funny. Homework is optional and attendance is not mandatory. Exams are easy if you practice the problems in the book.
Great professor for the subject. If you only need Chem 1, I strongly suggest you take it with him. Missed MANY classes, but reading the book kept me up there. Do the tests he posts from previous years, read the book, do the homework and it should be fine. Makes jokes and there is no mastering chemistry or clickers. Go with him.
Vey nice proffesor who will help you in any way he can because he wants you to pass. Exams are okay. Final is tough. Do the HW!
DUDE was legit,i had class in the morning at 8 am almost never made it on time and passed the class with a B did study before the test and i understand organic so i wasnt really that difficult for me. But take him hes good and approachable.
good prof i took it over the summer in the regular semester i would have probably gotten a B or A. Not the greatest professor but i have no complaints about him, great guy and really nice, he let me take a test because i missed it.
He tries but isn't helpful at all. I got a D on the first test, stopped going to his class and taught myself, and got a B+ on the next one. Online HW is extra credit but not worth it. He gives 4 tests and a final but drops your lowest grade. He curves! 75 is a B. Work really hard and you can get an A. If you can't teach yourself, get someone else.
This guy has to be the most underrated professor in FIU. He is great! goes over everything slowly, gives reviews and old test before each exam and curves them all. He will take any question and provide an answer. He does practice problems in class and post everything on his site. People are always going to complain but he is an amazing prof.
This is an amazing professor. Yes he makes little mistakes at times but overall he wants students to pass and is very helpful and funny. I barely went to class and passed with a B+. Exams are fairly easy.
Not a horrible teacher, pretty cool. He does a lot of examples, which are really helpful. His exams are really easy, just study the old ones he posts online and you'll be fine. There are 3 exams worth 100 points 1 final worth 200. He drops the lowest exam, not the final. You get extra points if you do Mastering Chemistry. Don't have to buy the book
De La Vega is a cool dude. He is a really nice professor that truly tries to help his students pass. He is a good lecturer, balancing the class with practice problems and jokes. He puts a lot of supplementary material on his site that will help you get an A. One of my favorite profs Highly recommend him although he does not reply to emails. sigh...
TAKE HIM!...You will not regret it. Once you do the past exams he posts and probably a little extra if you want you will be fine. His tests are easier compared to other professors and he ensures that his students understand. Yes he makes a few mistakes but nobody's perfect. It's all a learning process.
He is honestly an amazing professor, when he sees that his students are getting bored- he goes off on a funny tangent and gets right back on to the material. He cares about his students. He always jokes that he does mistakes and admits that he does (very few mistakes) - over all he is an amazing professor. The tests are FAIR
I had degree in Physics but wanted my Masters in Education but had to take several basic core courses. I chose Chemistry with Dr. Lopez De La Vega. He was relaxed and knowledgeable while keeping the material interesting with great demonstrations of chemical reactions in class. He taught me how to teach by his example and I am grateful for that.
To be clear, Analytical Chem isn't an easy subject, but it isn't that difficult either. I recommend everyone to take this class after Chem II because it's very similar. Exams and Finals are easy as long as have a good foundation of Chem II knowledge. People struggle with this course because they don't have a good working knowledge of Chem II.
Take this class if you want to skip class and not learn. He is very slack, allows a cheat sheet during the test, but the test are harder than expected. If you want to learn, look for a different professor.
Don't take him unless you want to learn everything on your own. Lectures were extremely boring and confusing and the great majority of the class showed up only to take the exams. He curves the exams as necessary and final grades.
He is agreat teacher. This is the first time I understood Chemistry clearly. He is also a very good motivator. Because of him I want tofurther my studies inChemistry.
Don't even bother going to class, use that time to TEACH YOURSELF EVERYTHING. he teaches as if we already know this stuff so it makes it really hard to learn when after each problem he says "well you should have that memorized by now" when we just learned it 2 days ago. so he continues without explaining. good grading scale but you still get D's
He is hilarious, which keeps you awake in class. His teaching style is reviewing a powerpoint and doing example problems. the test are based off of the assigned homework that is set to be a little bit harder so you know what your doing. overall the class was pretty simple, show up, listen, do homework, read your book and you will be fine.
He is a nice guy and will tell a lot of funny jokes. His Connect HW assignments were my savior because they have guided solutions to learn how to do each type of problem if you got stuck. His tests were easier than the HW problems. The book and YouTube lessons are your friend. Do the online homework! It will help a ton!
Hard class but if you put a in some effort you can easily pass. One on campus lab and the rest are done at home. The dates were a little confused as to when things are due. I recommend this online class
i went into this class last semester expecting the worst because of the comments. He tries to teach don't get me wrong but he only uses power points. if you do the homework you're good. if you do his reviews you're definitely good. he uses some of those questions. HE PROVIDES FORMULAS AND CONVERSION sheet. The man CURVES a B is a 75
If you want to learn organic chemistry 2, this is the only professor who really understands it. His exams are decent and doable if you study! He motivates you to do better. His office hours are always packed so make sure to get there early. He knows how are organic chemistry is so his exams are fair and to the point.
Super generous and kind professor who understands the material. He tries to get student to become as passionate as he is about chemistry. The class is full lecture and he goes over concepts and does questions in class. He gives quizzes as often as possible to prepare students for the exam. 2 exams and a final, HW also worth points.
He is incredibly smart and his exams are tough but he will give you everything you need to pass. If you study the homework and the notes, you will pass his class if not an A, a B+, B-. if you don't study you will fail. You need to study every day
His exams are tricky but he covered everything in class and tries to give problems based on what was covered in lecture. You learn a lot and exam is multiple choice, which is awesome. The HW is worth an exam grade (100 points) and he does huge curves for inconsistencies or multiple answers.
He rarely follows through on assignments he claims he will post, has never uploaded a test key that is accurate, and doesn't communicate clearly. The multiple choice format on tests doesn't provide an accurate measurement of our knowledge and is a reflection of his lack of effort to grade. I doubt we will finish the curriculum and he is unconcerned
Real nice guy, cracks jokes in class and is very approachable. But he's not very good at explaining things, he teaches the material as if its a review. He's also very disorganized and almost NEVER responds to emails. If you know chemistry well, or if you're fine with teaching yourself the material, take him. If not, I'd say look for someone else.
Sucks at explaining, won't answer emails, self-teach, do the homework. Don't take him unless you understand chemistry already. Only good thing is the grading scale.
The man cannot teach. He just doesn't know how to approach the material from a student's perspective. If you take him, expect to be learning everything through Clutch and Youtube. I had never been exposed to Chemistry before, but I am doing well enough in the class. Not impossible, but he's pretty much a useless lecturer. Skip this guy.
He's great, he may be a little difficult to understand but that is only if you don't read before you come to class, I mean it's chemistry a lot of people expect to get it the first time in class without putting any effort. He gives you reviews that are like the exams. He gives h.w so you can practice. If you fail it's not cause of him he's great.
I'm currently taking him for chem 1 and he's pretty bad at lecturing and he makes many careless mistakes. I have a strong background in chem/math so it wasn't hard for me. But if you struggle, prepare to teach yourself. Each of the 3 exams are worth 100 pts and the final is 200, but the total grade is out of 400, so there's leeway. He also curves.
This professor is nice, but he struggles with his lectures. He'll have issues every single class with his PowerPoint or something and it will hinder the lecture. Just be ready to study and read on your own
Do not take this class unless you wish to teach yourself. He gets in class problems wrong and leaves you more lost than Bambi in a forest fire. Three exams, 1 final and he drops lowest test grade. Homework gives you only 3 points in your overall grade.
He is very smart and knows a lot of chemistry. That being said, if you don't attend class, you might miss great information that will be on the exams, so go to class. Overall he is a nice man and is very intelligent. Three tests and one final, and a couple of homework assignments.
His class is test heavy, so if your'e not good at test taking I wouldn't recommend it. However, he does teach you everything thing that will be on the test, and puts all required information in power points so going to class is really optional. No homework that I know of, I took AP chem back in high school so this class was kind of a joke.
Amazing professor! He's a very sweet guy too. The class is not difficult as long as you study and the textbook is not necessary. He puts all the information in the powerpoints. Take professor Lopez!!
He is a good professor. He gives you a lot of chances to pass and get a good grade. Do all the homework assignments (they count at the end) and the reviews he gives. They help A LOT. He curves all his exams. He teaches by the powerpoint, but always posts questions he did in class on bb. Don't rely on him to email you back, he won't.
He is really nice. Reads off the powerpoint and doesn't properly explain the material. I had to read the book to get the majority of my knowledge and still had to drop the class because I failed the first two exams. Currently taking the course with another professor and I'm doing much better. Take De la Vega if you're okay with teaching yourself.
He is the sweetest and always curves his exams. His exams are also extremely easy, much easier than the homework. He is pretty disorganized, so get ready to teach yourself. As long as you watch clutch before class, do the practice problems in class, and homework, you'll definitely get an A.
Worthless. Only redeeming trait is that he makes homework a letter grade. You have to teach yourself the material. His lecture is a joke. He reads off the powerpoints, and even then is frequently corrected by STUDENTS. Fantastic example of why tenure is a bad idea.
He curves the exams and the homework is worth a test grade. It's easy to just pass with a C(60%) but to get an A(90%) is extremely difficult. On each exam around 8% of the class got As(and that's with the curve) and about 45-50% of the class got below a C on the exams. The professor is nice but this is still Orgo 2 during summer B, it's difficult
The poster-boy for what is opposite of an actual professor. After taking Sandra for Orgo 1 and seeing how an actually caring professor acts, I have to say De la Vega is not it. Unless you're retaking Orgo 2 and really need to pass, whether you learn or NOT, then steer clear of this guy. If I wanted to teach myself I wouldn't be paying for tuition.
His teaching was pretty good but scattered and unorganized(if that makes sense). I always felt like we were jumping from once concept to another and then back again. It's easy to just "pass" as other people have said. Mostly he needs to work on actually answering emails and grading promptly so that students actually know how they're doing.
The class is super easy, he's a nice guy and makes the class fun
Its my third week of having him and I still have no idea whats going on in the online class. His work is all locked until march when we started the semester in janauary. Ive emailed him twice and he has not written anything back. Only three assignments and none of them are open. I cant begin to tell you how stressed he has made me.
No one knew what was going on most of the time for the online class. Take another easy science class or another professor if possible. Everything was super disorganized. If anything, take the lab in person, it's probably better.
Great professor,really recommend taking him
Took him in the summer, and had not taken general chemistry in over 2 years. If you are fresh out of general chemistry 2 then you'll most likely be okay. If it's been awhile for you, all I can say is go hard in the beginning to assure you pass. Do the homework too. It will replace lowest grade. He posts practice exams but he did it too last minute.
This professor has been my favorite during my whole undergraduate. I took him for inorganic chemistry, which can appear to be a very challenging class. But he knew the material, taught it well, goes over harder topics. Provides extra material, focuses on what you need to know. Prepares you for the exam! Everyday felt like I was genuinely learning.
From what I believe that he is a very nice and kind Professor, his class was a mess from beginning to end. We did not recieve a rubric for the class for at least a month and a half. Lectures were just him reading off old powerpoints that he doesn't seem to remember what is on them. A total mess of a class.
This professor is actually all over the place. I had to teach myself the material the whole semester since he uses outdated methods that don't make any sense. He doesn't even know what's going on half the time. He'll ask us questions in class and won't even know the answer to his own questions. This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken.
I took him for the lab component of CHM1045 and he was all over the from beginning to end. Apart from the fact that nobody could get in contact with him at any time, he is not to savvy with Canvas, so you have to be on top of him to fix incorrect headlines. Also, he does not grade...at all. By the end of the semester he had graded 1 lab report.
Poorly teaches with no textbook, syllabus, or grading structure. Outdated slides, unprepared lectures, and error-riddled exams. Students had to make a document of grading errors for regrades. Professor unresponsive to emails and provided no study materials. Average exam grades were below a 50% Avoid at all costs.
Guy didn't know where he was half of the time , seldom answered emails and like others on here I had to teach myself the material. However, he was not unprofessional and was trying his best, hence why I've given a mid rating. Perhaps years prior he was more collected and organized but from the looks of it maybe its high time to retire.
