Interesting lectures, but sometimes repetitive. No demand of the students to participate. Class moves at a very slow pace. Textbook is rather sophomoric. Grading ambiguous. Recommended teacher.
Terrible teacher, boring as all heck, his lectures are repetitive and the sound of his droaning on and on about the same things every single day makes me want to shoot myself. He spends circa 10 days going over one concept if you miss more than 9 classes 10% of grade is gone. No make up tests or quizzes. Ambiguous grading.
He is a good teacher and very smart. You need to pay attention and contribute. His work is very easy and he is cool if you get to know him outside of class. The only problem is that students don't give him the respect he deserves.
Worst class ive ever had. Seems easy at first, grades on 4 quizzes, research paper, and a final. His notes are WORTHLESS since none of it are on quizzes. I got a perfect score on a quiz without taking notes but on the first quiz i took a ton of notes and got 3 out of 25. Boring and terrible teacher with poor grading of papers and quizzes. FIRE HIM
This class really sucked. He is boring as hell, talks forever, and claims that everyone has a right to their opinion in the class but will easily make you feel stupid if you voice one. No study guides, bad lectures. The textbook is used pretty much every day. Vague directions on what to expect for tests. Difficult, broad test questions.
make sure you read the book. he pretty much follows the book, almost word for word. sometimes he talks in circles, but he does come back to the point. if you get him into a class discussion, his class makes so much more sense. as questions and make him explain what he is saying if you don't get it.
At a first glance, he might seem hard but his quizzes weren't that bad; they came out of the study guide that came with the textbook. He didnt have students memorize dates; he taught concepts. Quizzes come straight from book. Not bad
Dr. Sewnath makes Logic very simple. Students may be intimidated by the textbook, but Sewnath sums up the material well. A lot of work is required, but none of it too complicated.
Worst teacher ever, quiz questions are unclear, expects perfet answers according to what's right to him, not what's right according to book. BORING class, goes on and on about everything other than what's going to be in tests. Requires attendance. FIRE HIM and re-grade eveyone he's failed (alot of people). He grades based on how he "feels". LOOOOSE
Great teacher. Taught everything from the textbook. In-class discussions analyzed the key points that the text covered, so if you read the text, you'll be able to participate in the discussions with ease. Quizzes are usually essay questions, so know the material well.
This class was interesting boring to people that don't like rambling. His tests are easy if you read the material. If your stuck just keep writing and you'll eventually get the right answer. I got a B in that class due to some extra credit he offers. Great teacher overall.
At first the class may seem really hard and it might be boring unless your interested in the topic. But I started to like the way he taught the topic (straight from the book). The tests were also straight from the book, if you practice the review questions you'll be 100%. Make sure you listen to lectures and take notes inside the book, it helps!
He is a very boring teacher, I wouldnt recommend him unless you really love philosophy because he teaches religion as a philosophy class. Also he grades wierd you can write down the answer the book gave you and he will still mark it wrong. There are two midterms and 4 quizes that arent to bad but it just sooo hard to stay awake.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROF. BORING. Couldn't stay awake long enough to understand his rambling. Make sure you bring a PSP he won't care. Just make sure you show up or he'll drop U. Don't ask for quiz topics just read the WHOLE BOOK. Quizes and tests are 2-3 ?s, final is 5 ?s each are half page essay ?s on ultra specific topics. FIRE HIM!
Great teacher, I loved every class session. very interesting, it was like learning from someone who actually practiced that religion. no hwk, couple quizzes, expects exact answer. exam questions + quizzes are written responses, always lets you know what to expect on quizzes and exams. be on top of attendance or he'll send home a note! lol
I thought this class was pretty interesting, but there is no homework and the class work is just class participation and quizzes and tests. You have to skim the book and attend class to get whats going on.
I have never seen so many students drop from this class so quickly.Knows his stuff however, his class was one of the worst.
This class is very hard. It's fast paced, gives homework, some extra credit, many quizes-no notes. 90% of class is barely passing with a C grade. He grades on a curve. 65-75% of class dropped. Don't take unless you understand this stuff. Other teachers are not as difficult.
asian pholosophy. awesome teacher who knew his stuff.makes difficult topics easy to understand if you pay attention.incorporates logic.first class he emphasized that a grade collector defeats the whole purpose of education and REAL students go to school to develop their minds, not just to get into a payn career.5 quizs/assi.1take home midterm.1final
AVOID THIS CLASS!!! AVOID THIS GUY!!! HARD GRADER. BORING. I couldn't stay awake. Tests are ultra hard, they have only 3-4 questions but they are very specific and you have to answer them with half a page each. You have to really bug him for extra credit or you won't get it and you won't pass. Gets really nervous when you bug him.
Terrible, just terrible. Nothing good to say about this guy. Do yourself a favor and avoid him.
Could a teacher be any worse than this . . . I don't think so.
you will only learn if you truly want to. if youre there to fullfill prerequisites, you wont succeed
If you're a good listener & aren't on drugs/sleep deprived during his lectures this class shouldn't be impossible to pass. You just have to study your lecture notes and read the chapter over. Sewnath in three words = patient, optimistic, & somber. This class just takes up a lot of your time. In which you could be pursuing personal activities.
His lectures and teachings are sensible but once it came to test things were different and the essay questions would kill you! In my opinion save your self and don't take him.
Its interesting class if you read you must read and the quizes are a bit far fetch from the lectures and so vague but overall hes great, Just tell him youll wu wei his classs
Boring boring boring. The dullest instructor ever. No idea what he is trying to say.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
very helpful if someone needed a self-improvement class or to take for recreation to further understand the world and his/her surroundings. for those who think this class is stupid, etc. the quote goes to show: you either know too much or too little if your interest level is low... and usually, you know too little.
still one of the best "REAL," proffessors at delta. not very entertaining,or comical, not an easy A. But, he does his job well which is to TEACH the material thoroughly and is open to ALL questions. If you're at delta for an easy A or to be entertained, you're at college for the wrong reasons. peace
UGH! Horrible. Please, do not take this guy. You only get through like the first couple chapters. It is so boring. The test are almost impossible to do well in. The class was full when I started and by the end there were like 8 of us. The worst teacher at delta.
Great teacher, he knows his stuff. I had him for relig and philo, and yes people struggled, but seriously you have to put effort in when you go to college. Buy in to what he is teaching, understand the material and you will do well. Remember why you are going to college, to learn. You will surely learn with him, just do what he asks.
Great teacher and he know his stuff very well. If you want to learn something then take him, if not then take someone else.
Sewnath, is a very hard professor, but if you show up to class, and practice your exercises, you should do well. This class could be interesting if you buy into what he is teaching. I did and I enjoyed it.He is very enthusiastic in what he teaches, and is a very good professor.
Dr. Sewnath is not an easy A professor. He takes learning seriously and only those who want to learn will pass his class. Lectures are kind of boring, but participation is a crucial part in understanding the material. Interests in the subject will get you through the lectures. Sewnath is helpful and makes himself available to students who want the
His so boring, his lectures are bored, but sometimes is interesting although he needs to put images or videos about religion because he only lectures but i will not suggest students to take their classes with him
Definitely gives you a different perspective on philosophy; his testing and grading is VERY tough; his lectures are illuminating, if you can succesfully stay awake to his dry voice. Not very helpful, sometimes seems lazy. Tacky clothing. Overall, he is a boring person teaching a VERY interesting and lucid topic, so that balances it out.
attendance a must for points. didnt learn much. book is necessary! most points come from in class essays, very easy, he gives you questions a week or two prior to the day. allows for open book and open notes during in class essay. how can you fail that? i didnt learn anything but passed with a B.
very boring lectures. i try not to fall asleep in class, but mostly do. there's too many terms to remember. i would prefer visuals and movies over his lectures. but he hasn't shown any yet. very very boring, and tests are somewhat difficult. just really boring for me. i think he can do a lot better with his teaching skills.
he is horrible. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
on't tell me how I passed his class with a C. I havent been in sschool for more than 22 years. If I can pass anyone can as long as your interested in learning. Forget about him, it should be about you, the student.
I wouldn't take him if I were you. He always encourages you to read for the chapter quizzes but I don't really find it helpful. All he does in class is lectures and writes important terms on the board. Midterm/final consists of about 7 questions, and your answers have to be half a page long. Not enough time to finish.
He's a very nice compassionate person for sure. But he is NOT an easy A. I study A LOT and still just get okay grades. idk we'll see. But NOT an easy A.
He is a fantastic teacher, I wish i would have come on here earlier. His class is challenging but if you work hard and participate it will become easier. He is fair and knows his stuff. I would take another one of his classes in a second!
Good teacher. He is clear and fair, he expects you to read and study not an easy A. Open minded people that care about thier education should take his class. he knows his stuff and is very helpful with questions and explains abstract material well. Good Guy!
Great Teacher. Extremely helpful and understanding to student's needs. Highly Recommended. Not an easy A
He told us he used to teach at UC Santa Barbara, and he'd also tell us stories of when he visited and lived in different countries so he has a lot of experience with different religions. Really knows his material & pretty helpful if you ask him questions. Overall good teacher. Not for sleep-deprived but for those who really want to learn.
This class is super boring if you sit in the back. I started sitting in the front and paying attention and taking notes and it wasn't too bad. You have to study a lot and actually read the text. And you should show up to class because it'll help you on your test and your grade as well. There's only two tests ans like 3 or 4 quizzes. No homework.
OMG loved this teacher u really have to work but he helps his students alot he is also very attractive ;)
very knowledgeable in his area on Eastern religion, but his teaching method isn't the best. He will lecture the entire time. It is very difficult to maintain a grade because there is no home work only quizzes and two midterms. unless its your major skip this class.
Outstanding professor to take who knows just about everything in his field. Not a fond of slackers but when you're truly interested in what themes derive out of different religion, he's enticing. Definitely fond of people who sit in the front and are actually "there" in the class. Thank you Sewnath, from a chiropractor appreciative of your art
Mr.Sewnath created a learning environment where the students preconceived view points on Eastern religions had to be left at the door in order to completely conceive the materiel. He taught the ways of these religions in a way that gave the student a chance to connect with it. I've learned a great deal from him and am thankful for the class
Anyone who says he is a bad teacher is just mad because they tried to flake by and did not do well. If you GO TO CLASS or even if you just READ THE BOOK(one of the two), you will be fine. There not MUCH work, but the work there is can be difficult- but that is how you learn! He is very reflective- so reflect and he will respect you
Great teacher, the material can be tough but it is one of those classes that you learn a lot from. It was hard, but I do not regret taking it. He hands back papers the next class session, he goes over everything you need to know, you just can't be lazy. It's college, its time to really learn and not just get by doing the minimum.
Dr. Sewnath is the best professor EVER! I wish he could teach all of my classes!
Dr. Sewnath is a great professor! He made learning about religion an experience, and his method of teaching is very helpful. He stays on task, unlike most professors.
Mr. Sewnath, is a really peaceful, understandin man. However, his teaching method didn't work for the majority of the class. There was no study guide provided at all, when there was so much to remember from the text. I feel that he should have provided some type of guide as to what he felt was most important for the students to retain.
One of the best professors this school has to offer. I really don't understand why Prof. Sewnath has a bad rating...he's EXTREMELY good at what he teaches. The class is a bit hard at first but once you get the hang of it, it's all going to flow well from then on. I managed to get an A without breaking a sweat after the beginning of the course.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Hard to understand and literally talks about nothing during class. Only 5 quizzes and 2 test but they're extremely hard. He grades really hard on the written section of the tests. Never take this professor!
Dr. Sewnath has a very analytical perspective of the various subjects taught from the text but sometimes repeats his thoughts. If you pay attention during the lectures you will pick up most of the material and thats all you really need to pass his writing assignments. Overall it was a great experience from an interesting perspective.
USE the Website he suggest at the begining of the class. Thats all i got to say.
He grades very harshly. He said he might grade on a curve at the end of the semester but he never did. Majority of class got C or worse. Never gives you a real answer when you ask a question and often insults you if he thinks the question is stupid. Would avoid this class if possible.
Good teacher, but dry and boring voice. Would suggest if you have an interest in Eastern religions. No hw, no classwork. Just quizzes and tests. READ YOUR BOOK! Overall, good guy, accommodating if you show you care and are good in his class
Terrible teacher, he's very rude when your aren't right on a question, and he has a real dislike for American students and always belittles people, don't take him!!!!!
Reading the textbook was just as essential as attending class. The midterm was graded a bit harshly, but he does offer extra credit. I recommend attending office hours to go over quizzes. He's very friendly and takes note of the students who are serious about their grade.
Honestly, he is a good teacher. Dry, boring, monotonous, yet a good teacher. I have taken two of his courses, and just signed up for a 3rd. He is very intelligent, well versed in his topics, and he will make you think and learn. His classes are very hard (logic moreso than religion) but very rewarding. Always have your book and go to class
Might be a bit harsh, but he's helpful enough, and while he occasionally goes about getting his points accross the wrong way, it's usually fairly easy to figure out what he's getting at.
I absolutely loved professor Sewnath. Although his course was very rigorous & readings were very difficult, he was an amazing professor. I've never met a person who is so full of knowledge & who has lived such an amazing life. He was awesome. Don't be intimidated by these other comments, go to class everyday, take good lecture notes, pay attention
This course requires at least 2 hours a day of study time. Read the text before attending class so you won't be lost on his lectures. Attendance is part of your grade, be attentive, and be respectful because you are studying a variety of religions. Do your best and you will receive your A.
Very cultured and learned a lot from him. Answers questions when asked. During tests, you need to go in depth and discuss your answers further than what you find in the book. His humor is dry and sarcastic, very close to my own. I recommend him completely if you know how to study and you're able to buy the textbook! Really awesome professor.
Professor Sewnath was a good professor in his lectures, although they can be a bit confusing. Attendencs is mandatory as participation matters. He has one midterm, one final, and 4 quizzes with an extra credit assignment (highly recommend doing.) Reading is essential and his tests are tough. You must carefully read, since the answers are precise.
Mr. Sewnath is a great teacher. His lectures are very interesting and informative. The quizzes are fairly easy if you read your textbook and attended his lectures. The midterm is more difficult, so you have to prepare well. Overall, I would recommend this professor, but expect to study hard in his class.
He's monotonous so I honestly didn't absorb much from the lectures, but he's nice. Tests consist of writing one-page long answers to essay questions (usually 2-4 questions). He gives you a list of the possible questions he might choose. That's the only reason I passed because that's the only time I read. You will need the book to pass the tests.
This Profesor was terrible the lectures are super long and i feel like he doesnt really teach anything he just repeats himself over and over the quizzes and tests are hard and i dont think he prepares students at all. When you answer a question he makes you feel stupid. I thought this was going to be an easy class but the way its set up its terribl
He's very monotone and boring, fairly nice guy. He rather have you come in late than don't show up. His quizzes were very hard and I bombed everyone of it. Only passed with a C at the end because I aced the final. Take advantage of his extra credit paper, it's all about the points.
its an interesting class but his lectures are pretty boring and his he is a tough grader.
Interesting lectures. Tests are challenging, but if you pay attention in class and keep up with the reading you'll be prepared. Learned a lot, not just about religion but about myself as well.
Interesting Class. Test are challenging but you pay attention in class you will be okay. He not that hard if you go to class every session. I managed to passed this class with an B just because I didnt have the book. YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION and Participate to get additional extra credit.
Professor Sewnath is a tough professor and is strict, but he teaches the subject of Philosophy well do that you can understand it as long as you put in the effort and come into class. It's hard class and subject so be careful.
VERY BORING LECTURES! His lectures have nothing to do with what will be on tests/quizzes. If you take this class you will be teaching yourself because his lectures are all over the place. I missed a few days and didn't miss anything because all of his lectures were based on his own experience. If you need to take this class try a different prof.
Very good teacher, and very knowledgeable in his subject. You can tell he's passionate about what he does and he isn't hard at all. Just read the material and you'll pass the quizzes and tests.
Professor Sewnath is honestly boring if you do not have any interest in this course, but he outlines everything you need to know for the tests. He can dock you a full letter grade if you skip more than 5 classes i think. I only attended for participation. Other than that the book really helped me ace all the tests. He gives EC so do it!
He is an amazing lecturer! So passionate about the subject and really makes the class interesting and engaging. I've taken both Philosophy and Religion with him. Yes, he is different but so knowledgeable. You learn so much from him! He is very clear at what he is looking for.
His lectures have nothing to do with what will be on tests/quizzes. you teach yourself by reading the book. I dont recommend him
Doctor Ramon Sewnath is the professor to go for if you chose a religion course. He knows it by heart and have tremendous experiences in the world. His lectures are amaaaaazing. He is also very critical and intelligent! He is indeed THE role model of all his teachings. If you attend class, get mental psychologically spiritually involved, you'll grow
Good Professor. Has patients for students. Is willing to stay after class or schedule a time to study and help you understand the lectures. Yes lots of reading. There wasnt E.C in my class. Is reasonable if you need to reschedule a test or exam but you need a good reason.8 Will drop you if your constantly absent
Was an okay professor. His class consists of lots of reading, quizzes and then two exams. These tests and quizzes were hard even if you study because they are worded really weird. Overall the class did teach me some things about myself so I personally would say it was an okay class but try to look for diff. prof. so theres not so much study/stress.
His style of teaching is extremely hard to engage in. Its purely lectures in his religion class. He grades awfully too. Majority of the students in his religion class failed all the quizzes and exams. Really interesting subject to study, but not a good professor to be teaching it.
One of the best and most passionate professors at Delta College. He is extremely lecture heavy and there is a lot of reading involved, but he does not give homework. He is also kind enough to curve grades when it seems necessary. Taking his class seriously is a well earned A or B.
Dr. Sewnath was a excellent instructor instructor. However, be prepared to do the assigned readings. After being exposed to Mahayana Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism, I discovered so much about myself and my self-centered ways. It was like Dr. Sewnath enlightened me to become a better person.
Extremely pretentious but if you don't mind his personality it's not that hard of a class.
The course material was actually very interesting but his style of teaching is extremely difficult and easy to lose interest in. Our class average on every quiz and midterm was a F and he said that it was not his his fault and that he couldnt make it any simpler . Save yourself frustration and anxiety and take it over summer or with someone else
Very straight forward class. Come to lecture, read the chapter and have a quiz every two or three weeks, a total of about 6 quizzes with two exams, no HW. Simply read and you will pass, EASY! The midterm and final exams will have essay questions READ CAREFULLY, they have lots of minor details he will mark on. Otherwise, great and simple class!
Dr Sewnath, although pretentious, is really quite caring, he wont show it though. If you take his class, its really straightforward work, all you have to do is show up and read and youll be fine. People got Fs on the tests and stuff, and really what I saw is that people were lazy, dont take this class if youre lazy.
His Logic class is hard at the beginning like drawing diagrams and identifying fallacies. It gets easier later on though. Make sure you do a lot of practice problems in the book to be ready for quizzes or exams. Do problems on the board as much as you can b/c that is your extra credit. The more you engage in class, the more he will bump your grade.
I swear the day after every test or quiz he says "So we are gonna go over the test and see why you all didn't do well in it." Every time we raised our hand to answer a question, the answer will always be way off and looks at everyone like we were suppose to get that answer. For me i did better on tests and quizzes reading the book than the lectures
