Ramses is my favorite teacher. I learned more in this class than any other class because he teaches in such a way that really makes you apply what you learn. I have learned some very important tools necessary to be successful in my future.
Good sense of humor, and a good professor.
He posts his lecture notes online, so if you happen to miss class you do have access to the notes.
This professor is good
Lectures contained useful material. Make sure to attend the in-class review sessions to learn what is expected on the exam. Ramses has a good sense of humor and seemed to enjoy teaching the class.
Tries to make class as entertaining as possible and has a good sense of humor. Actually wants students to understand the material and get good grades in the class.
If you want good grade, don't skip class
Very straight forward class, his exams are actually what's covered in lecture as opposed to many Purdue professors. If you attend class and pay attention, his class will be no problem.
Fantastic professor in an interesting subject. Provides videos of all the manufacturing processes, which were very useful in understanding key concepts. Even though lecture is non-mandatory, would definitely recommend going to hear his stories and prep for the test. Great sense of humor and gave great feedback on improvement for the final project!
This professor is a nice person, his class is a lot of fun
course is ok
Entertaining Lecturer
Don't skip the class if you want a good grade.
Awesome Professor, very chill. The notecards you have to make for each homework are annoying but they really make a difference for exams. You learn a lot from doing the homeworks.
Professor is nice and willing to answer any questions. Homework is pretty straight forward and can be solved through slides (which are posted before class.) Numerous chances for extra credit!
Professor Martinez does a good job of summarizing what he thinks is important and what will be on the exams during lecture, which is helpful when it comes to preparing for exams. He also provides some cool videos that help to better explain some of the class concepts in his slides. His homework is also not difficult if you don't put it off.
Professor cares about students and whether they understand the important concepts or not. He doesn't challenge his students to get a good grade. He's very flexible and his way of teaching is fun. His research is very interesting too. I reccomend taking a course with him.
The professor is a nice guy. He gave us lots of extra credits. The thing is I can not really understand class materials. That is probably the reason I did not really focus on the class. But I think lots of staff can be definitely put in a more easy way. Overall, great class.
This professor is a great one! He is very organized and straightforward in class. He is also very energetic and approachable. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there is definitely a benefit in going to class. Going to class is the only way you can see the solutions to the last homework, and he tells you what you should really focus on for the exams.
Take notes, do the homework, review as you go
Ramses is very energetic even in an 8:30 class when there's snow on the ground. I really enjoyed how he taught us a lot of stuff but come exam time, he was helpful in getting us ready for the tests.
Overall, this was a very informative class. Homework wasn't too difficult but the exams were a bit more challenging.
Funny guy who loves videos!
Engaging and fun. Loves showing videos in his class
This class was very interesting and we learned many topics. Ramses was very exciting during his lectures and uses many videos to get his point across. Good class.
His lectures use a lot of youtube videos that are super helpful in understanding the course and make it interesting.
Professor Martinez is a great addition to Purdue University and I was glad to have him as an instructor this semester
Professor Ramses is one of the nicest professors at Purdue University. He is very helpful and dedicated. The best thing about him is that he is very approachable, hence one can have good communication with him. Lastly, I like the way he makes the class interesting.
Very easygoing professor. Show up to class, turn in the work, you'll probably pass. Although, my bias may be slightly skewed since this was by far the easiest class I had this semester. The project was fun and didn't take a lot of work. It was suggested to be in groups of 3 for the project, but I didn't find that necessary at all.
1010, would take another class with him. He likes participation, so speak up. Relatively nontraditional styles, lots of videos, lots of pop culture references if you get them.
The lectures can be long and boring, getting a lot of material in the short lecture. He's a great guy and is always smiling and happy. There are lots of possibilities for extra credit which is always nice. It's an easy A but at the same time you learn a lot about what we will see in our future career paths.
Great at keeping the lectures entertaining throughout the semester!
Great usage of videos and diagrams to clearly explain material. Posts most of the material online which makes homework more manageable if you miss a class. Not a lot of difficult material, but remembering everything on exams can be a little challenging.
He did a great job keeping the class engaged. Some of the material was less than exciting but he did his best to bring it to life. He cares how his students do and wants to see everyone succeed. Very nice guy!
Great teacher and very personable! Attendance not mandatory but he made the class fun and interesting to go to. Gives a lot of YouTube examples which are helpful. Homework every week but they do not take long.
Class was very fun and practical. Lecture slides were really well done and very helpful and all that I needed to do well in exams. Great course !
Class is very boring but Professor Martinez makes it less dull and is always willing to answer emails or talk with you at office hours
He is always smiling and energetic, even when its cold and dark at 8:30. He makes the lectures interesting, even though the material is dull. He is very available outside of class, and responds to emails quickly. Overall funny and great teacher.
Professor Martinez was extremely enthusiastic about this topic, which was extremely helpful.
Do your work and you will pass. However exams can be hard because there are lots of materials. Very nice professor.
Class was very doable and was fair. I knew exactly what I needed to do and learn for the class.
Materials taught are fair, however, you have to memorize a lot of concepts for the exam. Prepare your flashcard well and you'll be fine. Text are very useful.
Professor Martinez is an awesome professor! No matter what class he is teaching, I would recommend it. He is always enthusiastic and knows how to keep the class interested in the material.
Good professor who keeps the class relevant and entertaining. If you do the HW you will be fine for the exams.
I honestly took the course to be an easy class, to put minimal effort into, but Professor Martinez made the class every interesting. He consistently drew my attention and I gained much more knowledge then I was expecting. He is very knowledgable on course material and his enthusiasm allows him to easily convey the material.
Really into what he taught. Made things interesting. Tests were straight from his lectures.
Really funny actually! From Spain yet very understandable and designs course so if you put in the time and effort then you get a good grade!
Overall this is not a challenging course, but a lot of this has to do with Ramses's lectures. I went to almost every lecture (which was rare in this class), and they made the course very straight-forward. He gives good lecture notes. Genuinely one of the nicest professor's I've had at Purdue. If he does other high level classes, I plan to take them
Easy to understand and was a good speaker.
fantastic prof. good notes and fun to learn from.
Prof Martinez was a great professor. Many times he would make jokes to keep the lectures entertaining.
I had Professor Martinez for IE 370 (Methods of Manufacturing Processes I), and I loved the class. He uses a lot of videos to help explain the concepts. This was his first semester teaching, and he is very enthusiastic and entertaining. He also asked for feedback on his teaching style a lot in order to become a better teacher.
Very interesting and smart man. He is very reasonable and understanding, however, he expects his students to behave as young adults. That means homework must be neat and handed in on time. He is not the most forgiving professor but if you follow his rules and stay on top of your work it is possible to receive an A.
very enthusiastic and good and getting students engaged
Great professor! Funny and interesting; not the conventional type of lecturer. Share lots of interesting knowledge in class instead of boring theory.
Professor Martinez is positive, full of energy, and his enthusiasm for the course material is contagious.
good professor, good course
Video's were very entertaining and kept the students interested in the class. Helped greatly in visualizing the certain manufacturing processes taking place.
He cares about the students and their learning. His energy and passion to teach is evident.
I took the class because I heard it would be an easy elective. It lived up to the expectations and didn't require much time. Professor Martinez gave good informative lectures and seemed very knowledgable, but the lectures were pretty boring sometimes.
Professor Martinez explains concepts very well. Show up and listen, and you will succeed. The material is simple, just don't become complacent and an A is well within your reach.
Martinez was clearly passionate and helpful towards students which really helps. Only thing is the material can cause the lectures to be boring
Always go to his classes, and he tried his best to make the concept interesting for his students.
Prof. Martinez is a good professor, he's very clear in his lecturing and has great teaching methods. Also, he is easy to approach and will help you. Overall, a great professor.
I love the style Prof. Ramses teaching on this course. The lecture is well prepared and the project video helps students understanding the manufacturing process much clearly.
He holds several review sessions before the exams which were really helpful . lectures are boring and in the end there are only a few students who show up for class. But you would need to go to his classes if you expect an A. Extra credits are given. Exam qusesions are okay. If you review the power point slides &videos you will be all set.
Great professor. Excited and interesting to listen to. More of a modern teacher than a standard lecturer but he is also good at speaking.
The course was on Advanced 3D modeling. Excellent new course designed by Prof. Martinez, a relatively new faculty here at Purdue. The workload was pretty heavy and the assignments were difficult, but it was extremely rewarding. Being a young professor, he connects really well with the students, is really witty, and is well respected by the students
Awesome professor, very helpful in office hours. He actually seems to care about students' performances and grades. I would definitely take his class again for the skills learnt and all the fun it is to model. However, the only drawback to IE 490M is the hours of work it requires. Projects are good but time-consuming and need hard work.
He's not a grad level professor, maybe undergrad, lacks the knowledge to teach grad students, effectively making the course so easy that he had to grade using attendance, in a grad course!!!!! thinks grad level is still kindergarten. you will learn nothing in this course.
I really liked that the instructor gave us some creative freedom for some of our projects. We learned several different tools within 3DS MAX and I now feel very comfortable using the program. I think he covered a variety of topics so we got a good feel for many of the different functions within 3DS max. It was a very interesting class.
I really liked the format of the lectures, i.e. Professor Martinez giving short tutorials then going around the room to help people learn. It gave an aspect of freedom and creativity to the course.
This course was very fun and I learned a lot. The professor was generally very helpful and provided good tutorials to learn skills in class. The pace is not too fast and not too slow.
there will be a final group project require 3 people work together
Dr. Martinez is really friendly and tries to make lectures interesting. It's not a very time consuming class, but it is helpful to attend lecture, although a lot of people skip. He gives a good idea of what will be on the exam from what he focuses on in class.
Great lecture. Moderate workload. Also, exams are straightforward and helpful.
Great lecturer overall.
The professor is a bit hard to understand, fortunately I was able to use the strategy of not attending the class after the first week to overcome that challenge. In all seriousness, the class is unbelievably easy. Six times a semester, answer five short answer questions directly from a powerpoint in under an hour, take two short answer exams. A+
very good teacher
Great teacher, eager to improve boring class.
Professor Martinez is a great teacher who does his best to help us learn as much as possible about different manufacturing processes. He makes the classes very entertaining with funny videos that help us to understand better the lectures.
Good professor!!
Very easy class, great professor!
good professor
Decent class. The grading criteria is clearly mentioned and there are tons of extra credit opportunities. Good professor.
Good Professor gives many extra credit opportunities. Lecture materials are clear and easy to be understood. Interesting contents.
Most of the material covered in the lectures are posted online, and if you show up to class, you will definitely do fine on the exams.
Good teacher, was very easy to understand. Classes were fun and interactive.
HW due once a week, have 2 video projects - one by yourself, one with group. Then 2 midterms. No quizzes or attendance checks. Good professor, and interesting interesting and useful topics to learn (Manufacturing)
The professor is very nice, energetic, and excited to teach. He generally gets points across very clearly, although I would sit near the front if you want to understand what he writes on the board. The course material is not something I am personally interested in, but the PowerPoint lectures slides are so incredibly clear and easy to follow.
The exam is well covered by lecture notes European accent may be hard for international students to follow Clear ppt demonstration, if u watch ppt, u learned
It would be better if we can have exams in another way rather than Flashcards.
The class was pretty straightforward. There's a lot of small things covered, so it can be hard to tell what will be on the exams. Overall a relatively average class.
This professor has an accent and at the beginning was hard to understand. He helps students out before the exam, in class, by saying what material to focus on.
Professor Martinez is very caring and funny, and his class is not bad if you go to class and pay attention.
He is a really friendly professor and willing to answer your questions.
The homework in this class required students to make up "flashcard" questions that were used as a basis for the test. It feels like Professor Martinez has bigger concerns than the students of the class, tests were announced a week before and he wasn't at the review. If you can read powerpoints and watch videos there is no reason to attend class.
He's a good professor, a little hard to understand his accent at times but he's a smart guy and is willing to help students. Attendance was not mandatory so honestly there was really no reason to go to class, you can just study for the exams and be fine.
Professor Martinez is a very kind, caring and funny professor. He is extremely approachable and teaches the content well.
Very good professor, gives a lot of extra credits and the exams are not very hard.
very good
Very good Professor, would definitely take another course from him.
Very good teacher, would take another class with him
Really nice professor...... would definitely take another class with him.
Nice, helpful guy. Has a thick accent so can be hard to understand at times. Going to class will help you do well on the exams. One group project and two midterms plus a final.
Dr. Martinez offers a ton of extra credit. Although attendance is not mandatory, the exams are all based on content covered in lecture; if you don't go to class, the powerpoints will go over the same information. He does not take attendance, but he did give two random attendance checks at the end of the semester for extra credit. Watch the videos!
Lecture contains a lot of materials. Make sure you understand every manufacturing process well enough that you can draw the schematics yourself.
Terrible. Doesn't tell you grade breakdown. Horse sh*t lectures. Grades unfairly. Very rude in email conversations.
I took his course virtually, from outside the country, and the lessons were never uploaded the same day. Apart from that, he seems to care and the classes are fun. Watching the videos of the lessons made the midterms very easy.
Be ready to spend all your time fighting to prove your answers are correct on exams. This guy sucks at grading. Such an easy class with such a horrible, arrogant professor. There is no structure and be prepared to use the textbook only. Lectures are a waste of time with this guy.
He is very kind addressing questions and provides lots of tips so you do well in the exam.
I think I lost brain cells having to deal with this guys grading system. Never take a class with this man.
Prof. Martinez is very kind addressing questions through the email, even few days before the exams. He has a good sense of humor and his classes are fun.
He did not adjust well to online lecturing. His lectures are incredibly hard to follow as he bounces forwards and backwards between slides as he sees fit. Plays youtube videos that are incredibly laggy. Draws on MS paint using his MOUSE, subsequently making very poor diagrams. Very rude to students during email exchanges regarding regrade requests
Dr. Martinez cares. He takes the time to explain everything well and is very open to questions. He makes sure all the manufacturing processes to memorize are connected to real applications and prepares you well for future manufacturing courses. You can tell he really believes in his students and want them all to understand.
TAs teach the class so be prepared to work to get any questions up to professor who is in general not helpful. Homework relies heavily on book and lecture notes are only helpful for some exam material
Professor Martinez is a much harder grader than other professors for this class. IE 370 previously had no exams while the spring class had two exams and a final that do not allow for enough time to finish. The graders expect the most meticulous answers to some questions not even provided in the slides and Ramses is short and unhelpful in his emails
Very smart and funny guy. Tells a lot of anecdotes that help you understand the lessons and is very open to help you if there is something you do not understand.
This semester I missed a lot of classes due to COVID. Prof. Martinez was very understanding with my case and gave me the opportunity to take my exams after I got better. Just by watching his video lectures on how to prepare for the exam I was able to nail it. He is very nice and supportive professor.
Prof. Martinez is really good at elaborating concepts and is accessible outside of class. The pace of the class is reasonable. Strict grader, but easy exams.
Prof. Martinez is clearly very interested in manufacturing and artificial intelligence, so he tends to draw students into his interest. He tells a lot of anecdotes and makes puns and jokes, which add some fun to the class. He is very easy to talk to and helped me a lot during office hours.
Great class, Professor Ramses is personable and creates a positive environment. Very conductive to learning. Great class for learning/improving arduino skills.
Great professor, an amazing researcher, and a perfect gentleman. I love his style of teaching and he actually cares about students. Exams and homework are tough cannot really do them 3 hours before the deadline. The professor is accessible outside class for any questions, please take advantage of this, especially in this class.
If you have basic knowledge of c++ and python programming language then this course id very easy and interesting for you.
If you have a basic knowledge of C++ and python programming language then this course is easy and interesting for you. Professor is super cool and very helping.
He is good at his topic and he cares about teaching. His skills are arduino (c++), python, machine learning. Homeworks are heavy if you do not have background at programming. The Professor is a bit playful (maybe I am too serious) but overall its irrelavant. If you make your work he does not complain at you at all, but instead praises you.
Come to class and pay attention and you'll be fine. He gives clear, straightforward lectures but you can't just go off the slides as he adds in a bunch of supplemental material. Funny, caring, and one of the more passionate professors I've had. Would recommend to anyone who has the chance to take him.
One of the worst organized courses I have ever taken. He had no communication with TAs. Students ask questions about the material that he can't answer, seemingly because he did not understand the material well enough. He skips more than half of his lecture slides which deems them practically useless and I have to assume he didn't make them himself.
Professor Martinez is amazing! His anecdotes make class so much more interesting, and I feel like I really understand the material. I am really glad I took this course with him.
I look forward to going to Prof. Martinez's class because it's always entertaining and I always learn something new; some times not even related to manufacturing XD. In the Final Video he gives great tips for improvement.
He does not care about the class. Beware of random points being taken off on your exams after they are graded even if you do not request a regrade request. His TA's are terrible. He expects everyone to respect and pay attention to him when he does not care about teaching the class.
Prof. Martinez is a great professor. He really knows how to teach and cares for the students a lot. You will have to study to pass the exam, but he tells you what you need to study. Don't listen the sore losers that blame him for not having paid attention in class. Great guy!
Homeworks are irritating. You get 1 attempt, 10 minutes, for 5 multiple choice questions. Some quizzes were easy but then others asked nit picky questions. I wouldn't mind the 10 quizzes throughout the semester if it weren't 30% of the entire semester grade. Weekly, I thoroughly studied the lecture notes, but I was bound to miss a question.
The shared lecture notes were straight forward which was nice. The exams results are unexpected. You study hard and think you did well (90+) but then you get your score back and it's a 73%. You compare your results with a friend and there's grading inconsistencies which is very annoying.
Grading inconsistent, the way the homework are designed is only allowing you to lose points, the TAs were scared of him and not helpful either. TAs awful. They take random points off everywhere even if you have the right answer but add additional stuff, and take points off during the regrading process to piss you off too. TAKE IT IN THE FALL.
No communication between prof and TAs, so grading is inconsistent. Regrade requests lower your grade. Exams are designed for rote memorization - learning is not encouraged and feedback is sarcastic. Other professors teach the course better; you will learn more and get better grades with them. Avoid Martinez.
Professor Martinez is one of the most caring and helpful professors I have had. Although he is a strict grader, he makes class very interesting and is more than willing to help clarify concepts. Piqued my interest in manufacturing, and would definitely recommend taking this class with him, it might not be an easy A but you will remember the content
The review sessions Prof. Martinez offered were so helpful! They really prepared me for exams. He gave us tips to memorize tough concepts that really worked. Also, Prof. Martinez is the fairest grader I've ever had, I went to see my exam with him and he took the time to understand my work and gave me back the points that the TAs took for no reason.
Martinez is the most helpful professor I've ever had. He's always willing to go the extra mile to help his students. The review sessions that Prof. Martinez offered really helped me understand the material better and do well on the final exam.
Dr. Martinez was always available during office hours to help me with anything I need. He is also very understanding about personal problems and always makes time to listen. I learned a lot this semeter thanks to him.
Professor Martinez has amazing lectures and will teach the material effectively. The grading can be difficult but if you go to class and listen, he does actually state his expectations, and follows through on them.
This has not been my best semester and I did terrible in my first midterm. Prof. Martinez was very supportive and helped me get back on my feet by giving me many tips to study and answering all my questions. I ended up getting a good grade on the second midterm and the final exam.
Extremely tough and specific grading in exams, does not curve. Classes are interesting but not worth getting a bad grade when it is an easy A in fall.
Professor Martinez is the most helpful professor I've ever had. He's always willing to go the extra mile to help me or my friends. The review sessions that Professor Martinez offered really helped me understand the material better, so I did not find the course difficult.
It's ridiculous. The homework was unhelpful (10 min quiz, 5 multiple choice with no feedback/partial credit), the exams were difficult and tedious, and you could ask the TAs for help but they were condescending and rude. I am retaking this course right now with another professor and it is so much better!
This has hands down been my favorite class at Purdue so far. Martinez is a tough, but engaging professor, and really pushes you to have a deep understanding of the content. Exams are tough, projects are time consuming, but if you are interested in manufacturing, 100% take this class. The time and challenge is well worth it.
Professor Martinez is the best professor I have had at Purdue. He explains topics in ways everyone can understand. There is nothing bad I can say about professor Martinez.
Take 370 with him if you want to learn the material. Not that hard to get an A if you just show up and pay attention consistently.
I failed this class 3 times, once under dr. martinez but frankly I think he is an extremely fair professor. He explains things very clearly but he's a no-nonsense guy. He wont make any special accommodations for you but he treats everyone equally. Definitely go to office hours foe help. Also he does great reviews before exams to help you prepare.
Professor Martinez runs a tough but rewarding class. The work can be challenging, but he explains concepts clearly and is always willing to help. Using resources like Unstuck study alongside the course materials really helped me succeed.
A great class! Professor Ramses does a great job keeping lectures fun and interesting. The course goes over a lot of 3d modeling techniques and animations in a short time frame so make sure you have some time to work the 3d modeling. There is one assignment due by the end of each week and cover something different. Overall a great tech elective!
One of the best professors I've had at Purdue! He makes even the most complicated topics feel approachable and is always happy to answer questions. The class is hands-on and packed with cool projects (especially if you're into tech and design). Be ready to put in the work because there's a new assignment every week, but it's worth it.
This course lacks supporting resources and is heavily lecture based. No study guide or practice exams were provided, even though other sections received them. The professor doesn't respond to emails, and I had to take the final without any idea of what to expect.
One of the best classes I've taken at Purdue. The practice exams and flashcards made prepping for the final so much easier. The lectures are engaging, and he often includes real-world examples and fun anecdotes that make complex concepts stick. If you attend class and listen to what he emphasizes, getting an A is very doable.
IE-370 with Prof. Martinez was a highlight of my senior year. He's not only knowledgeable but also a gifted communicator. You can tell he genuinely wants you to do well. His exams are fair, and he tells you exactly what to focus on. If you pay attention in class, you'll be more than ready. Take him if you get the chance!
Prof. Martinez makes IE-370 feel less like a requirement and more like a class you want to be in. His passion for teaching shows in every lecture. Assignments are fun, exams are fair. Just go to class and stay engaged. Amazing professor.
Prof. Martinez overall is a teacher than wants you to learn the content properly and do well. His exams are generally fair, but he made a final exam irrelevant to the general course with a Final Exam average between 30-40% due to the midterm averages being 85%. I've heard that this isn't the first time he's done this so I'd be aware for the future.
I honestly don't understand how anyone can think Prof. Martinez's exams are hard. He's extremely clear about what's important, gives practice exams, and even provides flashcards to help you prepare. This semester, none of our midterm or final exam averages dropped below 70%! Easily one of the most organized and caring professors I've had at Purdue.
IE-370 was my favorite course this semester. Prof. Martinez made the classes fun and helped me a lot during office hours. He is a very nice guy
Prof. Martinez is honestly one of the best professors I've had. He is super nice during office hours. Like, genuinely cares if you're stuck and will take the time to help you debug models, animations, or even bigger project ideas. You can tell he's passionate and really wants students to learn, not just get a grade.
Honestly, one of the best IE professors at Purdue. This class does require a lot of work as there is a new project every week but he genuinely tries to make everything easy by giving cohesive instructions on how to get started. Grading was easy and its very hard to get a bad grade in this class unless you miss projects.
