Very arrogant and condescending. She must always be right and she will twist around what she says even if it contradicts previous comments. She is very biased in her marking and sometimes I wonder if she even reads at the paper or if she just sees the name and then puts a few random comments and a predetermined grade. This was a really, really enjoyable class, and if I was still at UBC next year I'd try really hard to take another course with Doctor Ahmad. Like others here have said, she really makes you think about the topic in a different way...I guess that's her job, but she does it so well. I wish all UBC profs were so invested in their work and students.

What a nice surprise! Needed this to graduate, but I put it off until my last semester because I was sure it would be awful. Doctor Ahmad's class turned out to be fascinating, fun, and easy. I got a bad mark, but that's all on me (focusing on other things, y'all :-) because she has lots of little assignments and gives really good feedback. A+

This course was a life-changing experience and Dr. Ahmad made me see the world in a different way. I know that sounds stupid but it's 100% true. She forces you to think for yourself and question everything you think you know, and some people in the class did NOT seem to like that! But for me and some others, this was exhilarating.

I took the distance offering of this course, so my interaction with Dr. Ahmad was much less than it would have been for a non-distance course. That said, I found her to be extremely knowledgeable, a very effective communicator of her knowledge, and interested in helping students learn and do their best work.

Super interesting and engaging class. Also very fast paced, but manageable if you do the readings. Come to class!

This was such an amazing class! Dr Ahmad is a great lecturer and the topics for the class were very interesting. Although some topics were not personally interesting to me, Dr Ahmad made them engaging and made me reflect on things I'd never thought of. Go to lectures and do the readings! It's worth it.

I know it's a cliche, but Professor Ahmad really made me see the world in a whole new way. Halfway through this course, I changed my Term II schedule to take more Philosophy, and I might even do a Minor. What a difference someone who's passionate about the topic can make when you're studying something really intense and demanding.

Dr Ahmad was an amazing professor and this class was eye opening. Every topic was fascinating and this prof made it even better through engaging discussions. As an elective or extra credit (for non-PHIL majors) it's a great class to take, as long as you can write decent essays. Lots of weekly homework and readings, but great experience!

Another burnt out adjunct that missed the ramp to tenure track. Teaches to business students. Content-wise, the course is an embarrassment to the department. On a personal note, my brother died while taking her course, and I asked to her excuse a small assignment while I was away for his funeral. She refused that request. Form your own judgments.

That's a lot hate there, bruh! I took the same course as that last guy in the fall of 2024, and had a great experience. Everything was set up super-professionally and marked quickly. I actually had some personal issues that forced me to get in touch with the prof, who was chill, understanding, and pretty interesting.

Amazing prof. Lectures were so interesting and engaging. Discussion heavy but participation isn't mandatory. Lots of readings but definitely manageable. You'll do well if you attend lectures and pay attention. Prof is funny and nice, overall amazing class.

One of the chillest online courses you can take. Async lecture videos are interesting, but you can also get by with just reading the textbook. Weekly canvas discussions, open book quizzes, and a couple of papers are all you're graded on (and all are VERY manageable). Sometimes you'll be graded by the TA, who, for me, was a bit harsher in grading.

Mr. Ahmad was a lovely prof who is very knowledgeable. Her tests are tough and marking is difficult so ensure you are doing the readings and paying attention in class. Participation matters as well, so make sure you do the readings before class.
