Awesome teacher...great class...the kind of person you want to know better.
Best teacher in the world. You will learn everything about logic you even imagine. Will definately make you smarter, but also very hard. I got a "c", my first, but it was still worth taking.
I love this man and I loved his class on logic. He is extremely helpful and liberal in grading. He is also a very interesting person. DONT MISS OUT ON HIM...
Love this teacher. I learned a lot from him and he made the class very interesting. He did not insert his personal opinion and handled subjects that can be offensive very well. He is great!!!
This man is something else. His ideas are so implausible that I had a headache every single time I left his class. Also, I should warn you that his quizzes or reports are not exactly easy. I would not that his class again.
I absolutely loved this man's class. He is interesting and SO smart. He really makes the subject as easy as possible and really wants all his students to do well. Take his classes. I promise you'll love him.
I love this class!! I'm not interested in philosophy but I like the way he teach.
A very bright Ph.D from Berkely who is not afraid to swear in front of his students. An absolutely hilarious man with the dryest humor you will ever hear. I really enjoyed this class.
Great teacher. he gives you 3 chances to get your test grades up (2nd time in class & 3rd time by appointment). he's a great guy & an interesting teacher. Make sure you @ least skim the book (but you don't have to - i didn't & i got a B which means i could have got an A if i put some effort into it)
This man was the best teacher i've ever had. His lectures were interesting and the testing was fair. On the ruff draft of the paper we had to write i got comments from him back the size of my entire paper and then i got to rewrite it. I still dont know how he did that for everyone in the class.
GREAT teacher. Very friendly and funny. He's a freakin GENIUS. I've witnessed 2 other logic teachers outside of class try and talk to someone in terms of logic and parker just owns them. He is open to help outside class and is very clear in explaining everything. I got B+ or A's on all the tests. He makes me want to pursue philosophy as a major.
He's a very good teacher
Most likely one of the most interesting and influential teachers out there. No homework - just reading, most of which he goes over in class. The midterm and final are easy as long as you were in class. Great to study, easy B - little work required for an A.
This guy is a great teacher. Even when ignorant and arrogant students tried to argue with him, he gently and respectfully helped people understand the subject matter. Very patient man. Great sense of humor! More than fair. You get to take each test (except final) twice and drop the lowest grade.
My FAVORITE professor at gcc. He is interesting and funny. You MUST take his class, otherwise you're missing out.. You're going to love his pretend scenarios and stories. The class is rather easy if you have the slightest interest in philosophy. Cheers
Best philosophy professor at GCC! Refers to God as "Her" doesnt get any better then that! Really nice, easy going guy, easy A if you do the reading.
you won't regret taking this teacher. he is the greatest ever. you get to retake every test after he goes over the answers. he's always cussing and making jokes. greatest teacher at gcc.
Very generous guy. Even if he knows you slacked off till the last month of class he is still willing to give you 200% when you need help. You need to study and keep up with the work otherwise it'll be too much to handle.
I LUV Prof. Parker! he knows EXACTLY wat he's talking about. i can't believe he had me doubting the existance of my own hand! haha. This class is so much fun. i HIGHLY recommend it. it can get a bit confusing at times, but i think it's well-worth it. he's FUNNY as hell! his sense of humor is just icing on the cake! take his class and ENJOY IT! =]
great philosophy professor!!
THE single greatest teacher at GCC, bar none. Dr. Parker actually cares about his students, even being willing to meet with their study groups outside of class (on the weekends even) to help. From his class and lectures I learned to spot when people are arguing out of their ass, how to write better papers and how to ask for a raise. All with no HW.
awesome teacher. makes you love canandians. haha. got a B and NEVER even read the book. seriously, just go to most of the classes, take extensive notes and if you still dont understand.. then skim through the study guide. dont even buy the book. just buy the study guide. it has all the same stuff just condensed.. and its cheaper too. yay for you.
prof.Parker is the best teacher ever...love him...damn! he is hooooooooooooot.very nice guy, knows his stuff & enjoys teaching...take his class u won't regret it........Prof. Parker ROCKS ;)
This is a hard class if you have difficulty with conceptual ideas and math. Very helpful outside class. Grading system allows you to pass if you practiced the work. Homework is self paced. Did I mention this is a hard class! Many students dropped because they were lost… Hardest part was the fallacies for me.
Extremely valuable course. I think Dr. Parker needs to put more emphasis on the textbook. Without it I'm not sure I would have gotten such an easy A. But he has a very generous grading scale and doesn't take attendance. Possible extra credit. 3 Tests (each test is retaken and the higher grade is counted), 1 easy assignment, and then the final.
Great teacher, take him, the easiest A i have ever earned...hes great
He's a great teacher. I would recommend this class to everyone that goes to Glendale College. You will enjoy yourself and learn important things about life. Dr. Parker #1!
unlike any other teacher, or person for that matter that i have ever met. Very laid back with attendance, really will try to help if your lost...has the most interesting views of the world. DON'T BE INTIMIDATED, he really only wants his students to do well. Might seem confusing at first but stick with it, he's awesome!PLUS ONLY TWO PAPERS TO WRITE!
The most awesome professor I've ever run into in my 2 yrs at 2 different colleges. Very chill and very funny. Makes philosophy (a boring subject) into a fun subject with his wit. Never read a single one of the readings and got a B. It might seem difficult at first, but he lets you redo assignments, all of them, even the midterm. Easy to pass.
Cool teacher. He is able to explain a difficult subjuct into a very easy formula. Although I got a b from his class but I'd like to take his other class again.
"A" No comment. Awesome teacher.
Wonderful teacher and snazzy dresser :)
Very eccentic character that is probably typical of philo teachers. He has the ability to cause the student to reexamine what they think they know. Shows the hypocrisy of many popular American views. Very funny. He sometimes uses his humor at the expense of student's opinions. Tests are essay form and require you to think for yourself.
probably the smartest person i've ever met, this guy is a genius, his tests are very hard but 80% up is an A and he gives you another try at it. he's hilarious and curses a lot, his fashion sense is awesome! lol. You'll love this teacher, don't hesitate on taking him. In fact i'm making philosophy a minor of mine because this teacher.
Great teacher. Have him two coures in the road. Feel a litter lost in Philo 101 but still likes his teahing very much!!!!!
Awesomeness!
He's the best! :D
This professor is fantastic. Highly recommend him, plus a snappy dresser.
he allows you to rewrite your poapers!!
LOVE him. he's definitely my favorite professor. Every teacher should be as helpful as him. Take him for any philosophy class. You won't regret it. I promise. and oh yeah he's HILARIOUS! (which is always good)
Funny dude makes class interesting and fun but hes grading is veryy tough i wrote 6 pages for the midterm and i got a D+ on it..everything good besides the GRADING!
He is an amazing teacher. I took his Logic and Intro to Philo classes, and got As on both just by listening to his lectures and understanding the material. He will spend extra time on something if you don't understand it, and is always there to help. His classes are brightened by his sense of humor. He is a fair grader, and great teacher.
Ey..best guy of all time. Funniest and coolest teacher at gcc, ask anyone who's taken Dr. Parker and they'll say the same exact thing. Just pay attention a littttttle in the class and you'll do good.
Professor Park will not only make you laugh until you cry, but he also makes you very interested in philosophy. His approach to explaining is a humorous one.He is excited about philosophy, but he does not force it upon anyone, for he realizes that many people are in his classroom because they have to be by requirements. His papers aren't impossible!
Wooooooow. This professor is just great. I loved his logic class. In fact, I would take it again. He is funny and very charming. Gotta take him before you leave GCC
Simply put he changed my life!
Professor Parker for President!!! Prof. Parker is simply a genius, I can't describe him in words. Extremely intelligent person. Very patient with the dumb people, funny, and charming guy. I am taking a Symbolic Logic course in UCLA right now and I wish that Parker was my Professor every day, this guy isn't 1% of what Parker is. Simply amazing.
HIS GREAT...he makes the class intresting and fun.the essays are challanging René Descartes, and all the other philosophers sound reasonable once explained by Parker.Take this class before leaving GCC.you wont regreat it, work for your great.
He made me fall in love with Philosophy all over again. If you enjoy the subject you will LOVE his class. He teaches Philosophy the way it should be taught. He doesn't just teach Philosophy, he lives it everyday. TAKE DOWN AND STUDY HIS NOTES!!
Most intelligent person i have eeever met, i took his logic class a while ago and i'm at csun now but i want to go back to take his philo 101 class, he's funny, extremely intelligent, and just a great teacher. Changed my life
His class is pretty hard. We had to write 2 papers which were 5-7pages. He talks very fast and its hard to keep up with notes. Overall interesting though...I still got an A, but barely.
He is truley a philosopher. Changed the way i view the world and argue. Amazing teacher and is always willing to help.
Absolutely one of the best at GCC. With his eccentric outfits and great humor, he'll keep your interest and attention at its peak during lecture. EXTREMELY helpful, open to questions at pretty much any given time, very intelligent, and very easy to talk to! Not the easiest professor, but he does his job well. :) Highly recommended.
Amazing professor and class!! There are many great profs at GCC, but he's by far the most HELPFUL man. He answers all questions and even walks around to help students during tests and the final. I told all of my friends to take his class and those who haven't are definitely missing out.
He is amazing. Very helpful, and he makes Philosophy a very soft subject although it's tough
This is THE hardest class I have taken in my life. The things you learn are pretty crazy. However this guy is a genius and I give him credit for that he will help you for hours if you need. I passed the class but not with an A like I wanted. If you actually wanna LEARN something and not just earn a BS grade. TAKE HIM!
Amazing professor! Every class was interesting and attending lecture is very entertaining. Your grade is 2 tests and 2 papers. Not too hard. If you actually want to learn something and think, you will love class. Definitely my favorite class/professor at GCC.
Best Philosophy Prof. at Gcc. He writes 7 pages single spaced in response to your paper to challenge everything you said in it. He tells you what grade he would give it as is, then gives you a chance to rewrite. Let's you re-take the mid-term if you flunked. Very smart, caring, considerate. If you show up and listen and do the reading you pass
This class is by far the hardest class I've ever taken, but Mr. Parker made it possible for me to understand the material very clearly. He is very patient with his students, and he will surely help you when you're lost, even on the tests. He always knows what he's talking about. I recommend this professor! He's awesome!! Hardly gives homework also.
I had professor Parker for Phil 101 which I liked a lot better than 117 (Logic). He's a hilarious professor and makes class interesting, but the subject itself is kinda boring. It's venn diagram, diagramming arguments, etc. Since this class is a requirement to transfer to a CSU, I'd take Parker. We retake every test so you should pass easily.
An amazing professor. One of my favorites. He is very articulate and has a great teaching style. A good amount of the class had trouble but I can't relate. He gives you a second chance on every exam and retests you with a very similar format. Do yourself a favor and take this class. You'll learn a very unique subject and have a great experience.
Great teacher, connects well with class. Its a hard class but he allows test retakes, and his office hours are helpful with any aspect of the syllabus. the concepts get hard to wrap your head around, but go to his office hours and he will give you practice and walk you thru it until you get it. hes a great guy
GREAT TEACHER.explains everything clearly.makes the class fun and uses examples students can relate to.always keeps the class lively.bring your book everyday to class because your going to need it.goes over tests and gives a retest after every test.encourages you to come to him for extra help. super helpful and great teacher
This class isn't that difficult, but it will force you to adjust the way you think simply because you'll be confronted with unique material. Parker's brilliant, and he curves like crazy, AND you get to take each test twice. Logic is a very interesting class, and it's definitely worth taking.
HILARIOUS. Funniest teacher I've ever had. He does an amazing job of explaining all the theories and philosophies while incorporating comedy into it all. I was interested in Philo which helped, but to someone that isnt I HIGHLY suggest him. He makes, what can be a complex subect, very interesting and real.
Really enjoyable class. Professor Parker incorporates humor into each of his lectures and challenges his students to think outside the norm. He gives daily quizzes on the readings so it's necessary to read before class although they're usually only 1-3 pages long. Take him if your interested in thinking outside the box.
It was pretty hard class, but professor Randal is very helpful. An 80 is A, but that's because it's a challenging course. You can easily get the B. Some extra effort required for an A. Just practice venn diagrams, and derivations and you will be fine!
Wow, he's seriously the most helpful and funniest professor I've had in a while. The subject itself can get confusing and boring but he definitely made it fun and worthwhile to go to class each time. Strongly recommend him!
Hard material but he goes over and over and over to make sure you get it. He also understands that not everyone is a philosophy major and so curves his grades really low. Over all, funny and great prof,
There is a method to his madness. This class is very hard!! He teaches in a very confusing, contradictory manner, but that is his way of getting us to think critically. He explains much better in his office hours, so that is a must! He is very funny and fun! So that is worth the confusion. He is an awesome teacher!!
Parker is a hilarious guy and he's also a great professor. If you have trouble, he has office hours available to help. Sure, the material is heavy and the class is far from easy, but you'll learn something and actually use your brain in this class!
I thought logic was easy (I'm a philosophy major), but Parker, although a cool guy, was a bit confusing as a teacher. If you can sort through the things he overcomplicates, he can make a 3-hour lecture pass by quickly. Overall, I liked him, and getting an A (80%+) was so easy. You can retake almost all the tests, and there's tons of extra credit.
ok I gave easiness a 5 because it is easy to get an by his grading system, but is the material easy? :( haha just make sure to study an hour more than you normally do and youll do fine. he helps you too so don't worry. you can retake every test. I honestly enjoyed his class a lot
I highly suggest you don't skip any of his lectures, and take good notes on what he talks about. Ask questions and engage in the lectures, and you'll be well prepared for the midterm/final/papers. I got an A in his class by doing these things, and his class was fairly easy going, but the material he discusses is pretty challenging.
He may come off intimidating at first, but trust me, if you TRY on essays, he will give you a grade of a B or better. Philosophy is a tough subject, and even though his lectures are kind of confusing, if you properly state your opinions in your papers, you should do fine. Easy B. Also he's so funny!!
Great teacher! Really funny and lectures are interesting. Highly recommend taking his class!
He loves what he teaches and is very knowledgeable about the subject. You should go to his classes because there's a lot of material that he covers and if you do poorly on a test he'll give you a make up test and it's almost identical to the first one he gives you. He's funny and very nice if you have any questions hes there to answer them for you.
He is a great teacher! logic class is pretty challenging but if you go to his office hours youll be fine! his lectures are a little confusing i prefered to study from the textbook. & if you want to get an A on exams do the exercises on the back of the chapter!
He means well, but his lectures will not get you through class unless you do bookwork. There is no HW, but I highly recommend doing problems on your own time. from fall of 2014, he only graded 3 test and a final. 25% of your grade per test, or so he says.
Professor Parker is great! I would definitely take another class from him. Though the material is difficult and his lectures are a little all over the place, the passion he has for his subject is almost tangible, it is very intriguing. Loved this class! Definitely have to attend if you want to pass!
Loved this class. Engaging and funny lectures, and an amazing professor. Its really not difficult, but you need to put in work and study. Go to his office hours hes always available and willing to help all his students. His extra credits are very fun to do, so do them! I would take another philo class just to have him be my professor again.
I enjoyed this class, but this course gets much harder as the semester progresses, and the final is cumulative! I guarantee this won't be a class you'll fall asleep in, Dr. Parker is very interesting and engaging. Some of the concepts went right over my head, but thankfully he grades on a curve so non-philosophy majors have a chance to succeed.
Dr. Parker is one of the best profesors on campus. He is always there to help you and he never gets tired of answering to subject related questions!!! He is an easy grader!! I really recommend himm!!
Prof. Parker is one of the greatest professors I ever had. I took his courses at GCC and then transferred to Berkeley. I felt well prepared due to his excellent lectures and helpfulness of office hours. Professors that can about their students learning is a great thing and Parker is one of the best.
Love him! At first, the class is ultra confusing, but once you understand the subject, it becomes much more enjoyable! Reading the book along with his lectures is a must! Practice, practice, practice is another must!
Really cool guy, just gives tough tests. He'll help if you ask.
He's a great professor. Not an easy class, you have to work very hard for an A.
I struggled throughout the semester. But for finals I went to his office hours, and I really should've gone sooner because with his one on one explanation it made a whole lot more sense to me.
He's a really good guy, but the subject is way too hard. He makes it seem easy because he already knows it by heart, but for students who don't know much about it will have a hard time understanding. He helps you as much as he can, but he isn't very good at explaining things.
I loved his lectures and I thought he was a really good professor. He always had an answer to any comments students will make. He's also available outside of class if you really need help. Just do the reading and you'll be fine, if you don't get it ask for help!!! He's really funny and I always into the stories. If you don't try, you won't pass.
He was very helpful, always available for office hours, gives extra credit, and one of the nicest professors in GCC. Tests are hard, so he gives 2 chances for all 3 tests, except the Finals. Do the exercises in the book, come to office hours. I had a C the entire semester, but got an A in the end (without extra credit), so don't give up.
One of my favorite professors I've had yet! His lectures are clear and interesting and you can take each test twice. Show up to class and use the book to study. Definitely go to his office hours if you need help!
Logic is definite not a horrible stuff! As long as you have an idea of the chart, truth table is kind of math, to me it is essentially evaluation with parentheses. Attendence not mandatory, as long as you read and understand the book. BTW loveliest professor with so much wisdom, EVER!!!
I never thought Id find the subject itself even remotely interesting but he made it interesting. Heavily based on readings because he usually gives quizzes on each reading the next day. He gave amazing feedback on the two essays we did (literally gave each student 4-5 pages of feedback). All in all, as long as you do the readings youll be fine.
This man single-handedly changed my future. I went in an English major and came out a Philo major. He's articulate, wise, and inspiring. He presents such compelling arguments without being dismissive or condescending. He's all around an amazing professor, and there's no end to the amount of praise I could heap onto the guy. I aspire to be like him.
Prof Parker is my favorite teacher. After taking his Logic class I took Philo as I loved how he teaches although i didn't need it. Worth taking as you'll learn a lot. He lets you take the same test a few times and is always ready to help if you don't understand something. P.S. If he taught 10 classes I would take all of them!
Interesting lectures and he's very funny. He is easy to reach outside of class & his office hours help a ton. Lenient towards grading & 80% is an A. If you get lower than a B it's because you put no effort. Take each exam twice which is VERY nice! To get an A you need to study a decent amount but it's VERY possible. I highly recommend taking him.
Absolutely amazing professor. He's so funny, so intelligent, and his energy makes you want to do well in his class! Grade is based on 3 midterms (each of which you can retake once), a final, and a short assignment he gives at the beginning of the semester. I would recommend this professor only to people I like, because nobody else deserves him.
Not gonna lie, I struggled in his class until the very end, but helps out through the course. He lets you retake exams, and his hilarious examples probably helped me understand topics. Be warned, some may find it callous and a bit offensive. Regardless, he is a lenient grader given that he himself admits that Logic is a fairly difficult subject.
great professor over all but the class itself was a bit overwhelming for me. His lectures are very entertaining and informative but he gives you so much information that you get caught up listening to him and forget about taking notes for the tests, I highly suggest recording his lectures.
Took him for 101 & 117 (Logic) he's old school meaning that he doesn't post anything online, so make sure you attend the lectures, and PAY ATTENTION in class because a lot of the information needed on tests/papers are going to be straight from what he said in class and not from the textbook. Hilarious prof and fairly lenient with grading.
This has been one of the best classes I have taken and I have passed over one hundred credit units. Parker is a true philosopher and inspired me to read more outside of class. The material is not easy but if you attend lectures and follow his instructions, not impossible to master. Always justify your answers on the test, you'll get some points.
A great professor. His lectures are super relatable and they make you think hard about life. Only two papers and a couple quizzes. The quizzes are doable if you've the material but the papers are hard. If you can give two sides to the same coin then you're golden.
Professor Parker is a solid choice. He does an exceptional job of simplifying and relating the information to his students. There are two papers, a midterm, and a final. The papers are somewhat difficult, but the exams are straightforward so long as you read the material and paid attention in class.
He is very animated, which is the best part about him. His lectures are more entertaining the most things on TV (in my opinion). He made me laugh every lecture with his philosophical thought-experiments, making topics more memorable. He gives 2 papers which are tough but he will help you with them. I'll definitely miss this class.
Professor Parker is a gem. He makes philosophy readings fun. His lectures are fun and he tries his best to make them enjoyable (and funny at times) and thats what I like best about him. Hes a wise man and he provides the students with useful feedback in order to get a better grade on papers. Accessible outside of class and always willing to help.
The material is challenging, but Professor Parker makes the class very fun and engaging with his jokes. There is only one hw assignment which is difficult, but not worth a lot of your grade. The tests are fair and you get to take each exam twice. The professor explains the material well and is happy to help during office hours.
I was a little hesitant before taking this class but I ensure you, Professor Parker is an amazing professor for Philo 101. He makes difficult things easy, and all he wants it to know what YOU think and he will give you credit for what you think. He doesn't use canvas a lot so its difficult to know your current grade, but he will make sure you pass!
Took Professor Parker's intro to logic class. Learned some very interesting things. Very laid back professor always there to help out. Easy A if you do the practice problems and listen to lecture.
Professor Parker is a very brilliant and passionate teacher. Phil 117, however, covers very abstract and complex topics. The class moves quickly and if you're unprepared, the lectures can be difficult to follow. He does not assign much homework but I spent many hours outside class going over the material. Overall, great teacher but very hard class.
