cool guy, lenient, laid back, makes corny jokes. just folow directions you should be fine. midterm final project, oh yah do the easy article journals as well
great prof. His exams are easy. Class is easy and he explains everything. Just follow his guidelines and do what he wants and its an easy A. A nice guy and is veryu helpful.
great teacher! teaches well, awesome class to take with him
Great class. stresses to much on participation. Study guides are overwhelming. However, he is a cool, understanding guy and he's very helpful.
He's very cool. He explain things very well. If I need to take the class again I would definitly take it with him. His class is very alive.
Class is interesting and big on participation. Teaches you well with real world examples and jokes. Teat are OK if you read book, the syllabus seems like a lot of work but not so bad. Take him if you are good at power point, useful for the group project.
For what this class is, Arakawa is great to take! He makes class interesting, and it is VERY easy to get an A without killing yourself in the process. Take him if you get the chance.
this dude is probably the most overrated teacher at depaul along with kubik. I got a B in his class after getting A's in acc 101/102
The midterm and final exams were relatively easy but tricky at times. Do all of the readings and pay attention in class if you want an A. He's helpful with the final project and make sure to spend time on making quality powerpoint slides.
Looks like a samurai. But he cool as hizell. Nice guy, funny, and tests arent that bad.
Boring class, but very straight-forward. Down-to-earth guy. Only go to class as much as have to, keeps powerpoint notes on blackboard. READ BOOK FOR EXAMS! Participate in class, don't put off the final project. Cut and dry class.
i really like the class. he's a cool professor. READ the book for the midterm and final.
YOOO!! Do not take him for ICS 392. He wants you to write HTML codes. Make the website for some bull company..Stupid assignments...Really good for MIS 340, but not for ICS 392
The course is not too difficult. just study for the mid and final. You can kind of tell that he's a bit outdated in the field, since the info he teaches tons of common knowledge and even more useless stuff. But overall, the class isn't difficult, it's an easy B and you can work for an A.
yeah he's cool but i suggest not taking him, i thought this class was gonna be an easy but wasn't, what messes you over is that he is big on participation, and if you don't participate, you're screwed!
if someone was looking for a highschool approach to a college class, here ya go. your grade is distributed over many time consuming but easy tasks, e.g. project, article summaries, participation, etc. not hard at all. you will have to put time into the class though. great professor great personality
It's not a hard class; read the book for the midterm and final, participate in class, and be prepared for the group project
This guy is great. Material isn't unbelievably interesting at times, but he's always telling jokes to keep class entertaining. Exams aren't hard if you study the slides. Make sure you have a good group for the project.
I didn't buy the book... but still did my work and studied resulting in an easy A. The class isn't very interesting, but Arawaka makes class worth attending. Definately recommended
I highly recommend this professor. Even though the material is kinda boring, he makes the class fun. Midterm and final are a little hard. Study slides and book. Huge group project, participation counts, and 10 article summaries due throughout.
great teacher.. the material was kind of boring, but he was funny and enthusiastic about it. always around to help and definitely a cool guy. the project was a lot of work, but he didn't grade it that harshly
he's not as funny as i though-when i told my friend a joke he said in class, she said, he told the same one to her class last quarter, so i guess he recycles his jokes-and the class may be easy, but 90% of the material seems useless. ps-don't ask him about his experience cause he doesn't have any.
Overated, an hour and a half class felt like 5 hours- boring!!!
so maybe he recycles the same jokes; still a cool guy and easy class; I didn't study the slides though; only the book and still got an A. The class wasn't too boring for me.
Prof Arakawa is great. He makes class interesting. The group project is an easy way to boost your grade. Counts attendance and participation. Midterm was rough, but final was a breeze.
Ok this class wasnt easy for me because i had no experience with HMTL but Arakawa doenst make it that difficult. I think hes a great guy, and Id defitily take him if your willing to study up on HTML coding. HEs always willing to help and very nice
Professor Arakawa is such a nice guy. He is pretty funny also. He is always willing to help out and is always available. Just be prepared to stay the whole time during class. If you do everything he asks you to, you'll do fine. Midterm was tough, but final was easy. Project was a little tedious, but easy
Midterm was horrible because all he did was contradict himself, which led to a lot of wrong answers. Final was simple, as was the project. I got a 50% on the midterm, talked once in class, missed 2 classes, and got a B. Its that stupid midterm that gets ya. He's tricky on there, so watch yourself, and know every little detail ><
The class is boring but he makes it as intresting as it can be. The midterm is tricky, so you should really study.
Midterm sucks, final is easy. One big group project and database project. All in all this class is a joke, just attend class, take notes, and study a little and you'll do fine.
midterm, final, database project, 10 articles, presentation AND a report... in other words, way too much work for this pointless class.
This class was pointless. His lectures were a waste of my time and money. He discussed for a hour how to navigate the Google website. There is too much work and he is not clear on what he wants. He can not teach coding at all. I would not take him. Save your money and time and take another proff.
This class is really self taught. Do the work and the assignments are easy. I found it funny that I received As on all the cases and got a 100% on the midterm, but failed the final. It was meaningless information about e-commerce that fell out of place to the other material studied in the class. Got a B- even though I got all A's up to the final.
Very good professor. Well organized, EXTREMELY helpful, and a kind person.
I don't get what the purpose of this class is. To teach ecommerce? To teach HTML? We spent more time coding than talking about ecommerce. We didn't even discuss the 2 business cases, assigned as homework, nor did we cover 2 important chapters (MKT and customer service). I agree that this class is a waste of time and money. I'm disappointed.
really good guy. wants to help students as much as he can. a lot of work but not hard, just lots of it. i would definitely take him again. really smart too, seems like he knows EVERYTHING haha
Arakawa's ICS 392 is the most useless class I've ever had. The amount of work is just impossible! All the assignments are pointless because you just don't learn anything. Writing HTML code in WordPad is ****! I strongly suggest NOT TO TAKE him for your ICS 392 even if there is nothing else available.
come on, you guysd all go to depaul right?..i learned a lot in this class...prof always avail b4 & after class..curves finl &Midterm...ez group project, so work for an a f is pretty impossible unless you really try...even a vegtable can get a c herefunnyguy, allowed 2 absences...optional article summmaries...choose how much efffort you put into the
Too much work for a 4 hours class. But I have to say that he is a very helpful teacher. He allows students to retake the midterm(design a website). and it counts as (midterm+retake)/2. final grade included two group presentation, two 4pgs papers, 5 labs, 1 group website, attdance, midterm, and final. He offers extra credit, final is multiple choice.
He is the greatest. He has an awesome personality, very very smart and understanding. A teacher who is an actaul human being! There is a lot of work, but he is always willing to help you out and understands if you need an extension.
I heard he was good before class but after taking the final and studying extremely hard for it I found out that he hardly teached us. He talks about his kids A LOT. Before studying for exams use the CDs from the textbook and the quizzes on there. Midterm, Final, Group Project.
Wasn't thrilled with his teaching style. Also didn't feel like I learned much of anything. Nice guy though.
Group Project! Takes attendance every class. No homework. Do the articles, easy points.
He allows students to retake the midterm(design a website)& it counts as (midterm+retake)/2. final grade included two group presentations, two 4 pages papers, 5 labs, 1 group website, attdance, midterm, and final. He offers extra credits, final is multiple choice. I agree that its too much work for 1 class.

Arakawa is a pretty laid back guy w/ funny stories. Liked the prof a lot but the material sucked. 8 Article summaries due throughout the qtr (easy points). Att/part is part of grade. I thought MT and Final had lots of surprises, even tho he gave a study guide. Never really had an interest to learn the material but still got a B w/o much effort
WAY too much work. Arakawa means well but he is so incredibly picky about everything that if you don't do things his way, he will punish you for it. (Our group lost points on our report because are page numbers were at the top of the page instead of the bottom) If you have to take him, then do it, but try your best to find someone else...
He's an amazing teacher and a great person! Hhe expects you to not be majoring in MIS and knows very well that students take MIS340 because it's a mandatory class! Highly recommended, very clear in his notes, test preps and pretty much everything about the class!
He is a great teacher, an amazing person and one of those people you will remember for life! Take him for MIS340 and you won't regret it!
Ok what you need do know about this teacher: do the article summaries, very easy points...midterm a little difficult but gives you a pretty good curve got a 43 out of 50 ended up with being 43 out of 45...presentations get a good group and take the word document part seriously and you will get an A...tests are mostly on pp's, but some stuff on book
This class required a lot of work that seemed to be a waste of time. He made us do group projects that required powerpoints and also a word documents to go along. His tests were pretty hard though, but he did curve them.
This class will not be a lot of work if you have a tech background. I think most people get caught up on the HTML and it takes a lot of time. If you have previous web knowledge (even if it is just a little) it is not a difficult class.
Mr. Arakawa is among the most caring teachers at DePaul...super smart, too. If you want to learn about website design and how websites are used in the biz world--this is a great class. Mr. Arakawa is very helpful if need aid outside of class. Note: this class involves considerable work...prepare for weekly asgts...don't take with 4 other classes.
Prof Arakawa is pretty good, only thing though about this class it's almost the exact same as MIS340, just with some HTML. Midterm exam is building a website, 50 question multiple choice final, 2 group presentations. Overall not bad. Good choice to take him if you're looking for a ICS392.
Great professor and a wonderful person, very helpful and understanding. The class is easy, but you may find it a bit boring though. The teacher does try to spice it up, but the material itself does not allow it. Pay attention in class and use the book to study for the tests. He curves the grades at the end and will always give you the higher grade.
This class is not too bad at all. Midterm and final require you to study, go over your notes AND read the chapters (not reading the chapters will come back to haunt you..). Also, spend a lot of time on the group project and pick "good" reliable team members--this is not the kind of project done overnight. I got an "A". Exams usually are curved.
Great Prof. He was very helpful and always willing to help you solve class projects. Very knowledgeable.
TAKE HIM! He is a great professor!! I did not buy the book and received a B in the class. The group project is time consuming and be sure to pick responsible people.
Take this class if you have it as an option. The teacher makes the class fun and interesting you have to study for the midterm and the final but they are graded on a curve. also, there is a big group project that is time consuming.overall really liked the teacher and the class!
Teacher is awesome but the subject matter is just really boring. I really didn't do much and ended up with a B. If you put a day of studying for the midterm (just study slides and notes) you'll get an A. He gives a very generous curve (went from 60-75 on midterm) Take him for sure
extremely hard... take nina diamond shes easy
I took him for ICS392 and MIS340. he is a great guy and will make almost and adjustment to help his students. He does NOT have an accent. 392 is a lot of work, but nothing is that hard. If you have no prior experience with HTML you will have to work a little harder tho.
Definitely one of the top two professors I have had the pleasure of learning from. Always helpful and is willing to listen. No boring time in class. Read the book and brush up on your presentation skills. I loved this class.
He is a great teacher, and I am looking forward to taking another one of his classes. He is very clear and some might say a little corny, but I thought was funny and really keep me interested in his lectures.
The guy is just a rockstar. Grades on a curve if the class isn't up to par. He stays after to help his students and is very thorough in labs. Take him, and you won't regret it!
Cool guy that will help you as much as needed. Coding is easy to learn if you really try to learn. All the days that you learn about the web from his powerpoint slides aren't tested until the final.
Fairly easy class. Mid term and final are 25%. Article summaries are 10%. Two computer project worth 5%. Make sure take good member for group project. I didn't do a lot and end up with A-.
I took him for summer session. His class is very informative, he is a very intelligent guy, can also be very funny. He does take the class seriously and you do have to study hard. I recommend him because I learned a lot. There is a group presentation that goes along with a project worth about 35% of grade. Take him if you want to learn & have fun.
Arakawa is helpful, funny, extremely intelligent and enjoys his time teaching. The class is definitely doable, but you need to put forth good effort because it is difficult material, but he is more than willing to help you. I know nothing about coding/html/MIS and I managed to learn a lot and became very interested in the topics discussed.
The class is ok, not too hard. He wants you to do ok although presentation grading is pretty harsh. What really sucks about him that he does not post grades on D2l. In addition to that, more than a week after finals he still hasn't posted grades. How long does it take to grade scan-tron? really?
I enjoyed this class a lot, and Mr. Arakawa was a great professor. The subject does take a little studying if you want to do well on the midterm and final. Other assignments included a presentation and some article summaries. He makes the class enjoyable with his humor and his presentations. Good class!
Just a ridiculous grader for a required senior class. He is a complete hardo when it comes to presentation grading and the papers. Doesn't give As. Not to mention his rubric for his cases doesn't match the content of the reading. Also, he curves the final and likes to feel good about it, cool it's impossible. Needs a reality check.
Professor Arakawa is a great professor. He is incredibly well versed in the subjects he is teaching and applies real world scenarios to all the concepts being taught. The mid term and final are hard, buy the book if you want to do well on the exams which ARE curved. Overall easy course to get an A if you do the work.
You HAVE to get the book. His tests have nothing to do with what he teaches in class. Not the most exciting class anyway.
Prof Arakawa is the best! He is very funny, and is interested in his students success. I took him for MIS 140 and ICS 392 and got an A! There really is nothing bad to say about him!
He took months to post the final grade. I still don't know how I did on my final. Don't even bother emailing him because he will literally say it's against the law. You have to get the book to do well on his test. My friends in other MIS 140 classes did nothing and got A's. I worked hard in this class and still didn't get an A.
He's a funny guy, but not he best professor. For a 100 level class, I was shocked to see how difficult it is. Access is a pain in the butt to learn, but he goes through cool shortcuts with excel and powerpoint. Make sure to participate, because he writes down who did or didn't. Lectures don't help with tests.
Prof. Arakawa clearly lists what is expected of you in the class. I did not think it was impossible. I hate technology and learning about it but he kept his lectures fun so it is not too difficult to concentrate. Tests are not hard- of course you have to study. Great guy- would take again. Also very funny.
Such an amazing teacher. He loves to be in class and keep you engaged. He is very helpful and makes himself very available for help. His MIS 140 class isn't easy but I got a great grade with effort and help from him.
Funny guy makes hard materials relative to students especially those who aren't interesting in the material. PARTICIPATE! Overall easy class as long as you study the power points and pay attention in class.
I don;t recommend him. I did all the stuffs in class, but still get a C. There are two projects, excel and access. One group presentation, midterm, and final. I got an A- for most of the assignments. However, i didn't really did good on Midterm. So if you are not a test taker, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
The midterm & final are tough. You NEED to read the book in order to understand anything that is going on. Not an easy class, and he makes it more difficult. Curves the midterm. If you seek help, more than willing to help. SUPER nice and sarcastic.
Here is the thing about Arakawa, he's not a great teacher. People like him because he is funny, but the fact remains he is probably the most confusing teacher I have ever had. He can stand up front and talk for hours without a simple pause to take a question. There is a reason why every one here tags tests are hard. Because nobody knows what he is
Arakawa is an awesome person and professor. But, in order to do good in his MIS 140 class you NEED the book, & you have to be prepared to study for hours. His projects are fairly easy, but his tests are hard. A big portion of his tests are based on the book and the other portion on his lectures. Study both the lectures & book and you will be fine.
This man changed my life. As an MIS major, I truly believe that Randall prepared me for what is to come. MIS is not an easy subject, and if you aren't into it, it can be challenging. Go to his office hours if you are having trouble; he is more than willing to help and you will become a better student because of it.
I took him for both MIS 140 and ICS 392. Arakawa is a wonderful professor who really cares that his students do well while ensuring that they learn the material. He's a funny guy, and his stories make class much more interesting. Will curve tests and goes out of his way to help his students in any way he can. Take him if possible!!
Overall great prof would take him again. He is very caring and wants students to succeed. Class is easy as long as you pay attention and take notes. One group project but it's not a big deal. 2 computer projects: excel and access. The midterm and final are a breeze as long as you review your notes and the PowerPoint slides.
He is very knowledgable on the subject, and I would recommend this class if you like MIS. There is one group project and 2 computer projects which weren't bad. The midterm and final were middle of the road. If you have no interest in the subject this might not be the professor for you, other professors are much more relaxed.
Arakawa is a cool professor who uses real life examples when he describes the information at hand. However, this did not sway away from the fact that the lectures were pretty dull. The assignments were fairly easy, but the midterm and final were no walk in the park.
Arakawa assumes that you have no coding experience and in his office hours he will work through the assignments with you to which you can turn in. Make a good group; you will have to do two presentations together and make a website. Make sure to practice for the midterm, some students just pass because he doesn't want you to take the class again.
At first, Arakawa seemed really cool, but after enduring his lectures and his strangely dull and unenthusiastic teacher style/methods, that image of him slowly dissipates. Midterm and Final are all very textbook based, however, you don't learn any of the tested information in class which is pretty frustrating. curves tests, seems easy but isn't.
Arakawa is a great teacher for ICS. He really knows his stuff but one bad thing is he goes very fast when teaching HTML. If you have never coded before, it may not be too easy but he does offer office hours where he will help you in detail. He's a cool professor. 2 group projects. Gives good grades if you put in the work.
Grade consists of 2 excel/access projects, 1 group project, a final, and midterm. He will teach excel and access very slowly to make sure everyone understands and will stop to help people. The group project is easy as long as you have a good group and everyone puts in the work. Read each chapter and slides for tests.
There are two exams, an excel and access project, group project and homework assignments. Attendance is mandatory as it counts as participation points. For the tests, you NEED to read the book or you won't do well. Also pay attention in class and that will also help. He curves the exams. It's difficult material to understand.
Let me tell you straightforward if you really good at coding go ahead and take him but if you don't have any background in html, css and java don't take Arakawa class because you will end up failing the course,Midterm in class and final which means you have an hour to build a website in class. Please be aware!
The assignments in the class are easy, but very tedious. The exams will hurt your grade. The class average on the Midterm was somewhere around 60% and his lectures don't prepare you for them at all because of how many slides you go through without really knowing what hes talking about. Basically memorize the textbook to do well on the exams.
He's a really nice guy. He graded easy on the research project which is the group presentation (30%), but the tests are god awful. Straight out of the book with little to no time talking about the specifics that are in the slides he shows(50%). MS Excel/Access projects pretty easy as well (5%). Easy news articles (10%). Then attendance (5%).
He goes over power points in every class yet expects you to know small things from the book that we didn't even touch upon. He literally takes tallies for each time you participate in class. He also teaches the access project in a way that ensures he holds all the knowledge and leaves you confused for when it comes time to do it on your own.
Instead of testing on relevant material, he gives extremely difficult tests and then just curves them drastically. His power points are pretty irrelevant.
Nicest professor! Will go out of his way to help students with code and make sure everyone succeeds. Funny guy
Favorite professor at DePaul
Extremely nice guy and hes funny. His lectures can get pretty boring, but theyre bearable. Group project, Article Summaries, Excel/Access Project are all easily graded. Midterm/Final were difficult: tested on very random/irrelevant info from the book/slides. You wont mind it though because the curve is *huge.* (Went from 80% to 97% on midterm.)
If you don't know how to code HTML, it won't be easy. Taking this in the summer SUCKED. Highly suggests to video record the demonstration labs. Uses Notepad ++ and won't demonstrate Brackets for Mac users. Midterm was HARD (all coding), Final (all from the book), 1 group project that was long, 2 Business cases, 8 quizzes, but nice man.
Professor Arakawa is a great guy, he adds humor into every lecture and takes time to describe the subject. He is very understanding and will help after class if needed. He is very knowledgeable on tech and loves to talk about any subject at hand that you may want to discuss. He will actually help you learn, I highly recommend him for a tech class.
Professor Arakawa is a great guy. I had him for MIS 140 a few years ago and took him again (by choice) for ICS 392. His lectures are funny, and he clearly cares about his students and the material. I highly recommend him! Class load isn't too bad, and the group project is just an extension of what you've learned all quarter. Straight forward.
Professor Arakawa is one of the most caring professors at DePaul. Over the course of the semester, there were numerous times when he would stay way past his office hours just to make sure every student who needed help, received it. He was always very respectable and helped me understand the class material. Very reasonable class, very genuine Prof!
ICS is the second class I have taken with Professor Arakawa. This coding class was definitely a challenge for me, but he was always willing to help me whether it was during office hours or coming in early to class. Super patient and one of the nicest professors I have had at DePaul.
Professor Arakawa is a funny dude. He lectures exactly what will be asked from you on the labs, and if you need more help he is always willing to during office hours. His midterm is a comprehensive lab that wont be hard if you look over your coding. I would highly recommend this guy, he cares about his students, and hes funny during lecture.
Prof Arakawa is great, he is always willing to help students. The coding was little difficult for me, but always help in office hours or early b/4 class. super respectful and 1 of the greatest professors I have had at DePaul. Attendance not mandatory but recommended if you want to understand to do HW and Midterm. Final, group project. Hybrid class
Professor Arakawa truly cares about students in ICS392. He provides great clarity and clear expectations. Wonderful man. Wonderful class
Prof. Arakawa is one of the best. He's been teaching for a very long time, and really knows the material! MIS isn't an easy course, but focusing in his lectures and taking good notes made things way better. He is also accessible outside of the classroom. He helped me a lot whenever I went to his office hours or emailed him. Id strongly recommend
Professor Arakawa is very knowledgeable in MIS and he goes out of his way to make time for his students after class ends, during his office hours and he is open to make appointments. Some students may take for granted that professors offer office hours but there are professors at DePaul who do not have any available office hours.
ICS392 is one of my favorite classes. This class is really interesting and you will learn a lot about coding. Professor Arawaka provides clear learning objectives every week, his lectures are easy to follow. He includes some interesting videos which help us understand the materials. He provides clear grading criteria. I highly recommend this class.
Professor Arakawa is one of the best professors I've ever had at DePaul. I can't even tell you the number of times that I went to see him for help for every assignment and he always made time to meet and help me and other students. He is very understanding and always willing to help. He makes coding fun and finds ways to help you understand it.
Professor Arakawa is very knowledgeable in MIS and one of the best professor I ever had at DePaul University. He is available and willing to help whenever I needed help. I highly recommend professor Arakawa.
Great professor, would definitely take again. The class overall was difficult, because of the HTML coding assignments, however Arakawa is very understanding and helpful. Don't slack on the coding assignments, those will majorly help for the Midterm exam. Make sure to do all the quizzes, because they are extremely helpful for the final at the end.
Professor Arakawa is a great professor. He tells a lot of jokes in class to make things more interesting. When I needed help with some homework, he was really helpful when I went to his office hours.
By far the best professor at DePaul. One presentation and article summaries for easy points. Only tests are the midterm and final which are multiple choice! Helped me learn some Excel formulas that I didn't really know. Go to the labs!
Arakawa is easily one of the best professors at DePaul. Class is super straightforward, he will help you with anything you have a question for, and is an all around great dude. Class isnt mandatory but you gotta go if you want to have a clue whats going on. Don't underestimate the midterm. Interesting class with a prof that gives a hoot. 10/10
the class contructed by Access project, Excel project, Team project and midterm/final. the class will be rough but you will get to learn how to use the excel. Professor Arakawa is somewhat a funny person, he always come up with somewhat good joke and he is generous about grading. other review might not say much about him, believe me and take him
Hands down THE BEST Professor I've ever had!!! Absolutely recommend any classes that he teaches. He is the sweetest, funniest, smartest professor you will have. The midterm and final are curved. Study the powerpoint slides and you will get an A. A few projects at the end but you do most of it in class, one group project. Easy A, if you actually try
Best professor I've had at DePaul. Tests are curved, and if you study the powerpoints you will easily pass. He's very funny and actually cares about his students. If you put effort into the assignments you will automatically get an A.
Arakawa is a good teacher that is very knowledgeable about both business and technology in general. Some of the concepts in the class are pretty technical, but he does a good job of breaking things down so that the average non-geek can understand. Does a great job at teaching how to use Excel and Access. Group presentation was kind of a pain though
Extremely understanding of all students situations during the COVID quarter. Composed of quizzes, midterm/final, excel assignments, and written assignments (1 -2 paragraphs). Constantly reached out and made sure everyone could get the assignments done on time. Could tell he genuinely cared about his students.
Amazing understanding teacher!
Professor Arakawa is one of the most kind and understanding professors I've ever had. He zoomed with me anytime I had the smallest of questions, and ALWAYS showed that he cared about my success. I wish every teacher could be as helpful as he was. 10/10 recommend!
I've had two classes with him (online and in-person) and both were fairly easy. He's a chill professor and he basically goes through each step of all the labs in his lectures/videos just with different information so it's easy to follow along. The best part is you can sometimes hear his dog's lil nails tapping softly in the back of his videos:)
One of the best professors I had at DePaul. He's very genuine and truly cares. And he's got a good sense of humor! Pay attention to him, and you'll do good and learn well. I almost considered pursuing coding after his class, but I was near graduation.
He was a great professor, but it was really difficult to do this class online. His midterm was only difficult because he gave such little time. All quizzes and final were on Quizlet which helped a lot. Labs are only hard if you do not pay attention and read the instructions. He does also care about his students which is nice.
Had Prof Arakawa fall quarter for MIS140. Going into it, I thought it would be way harder. Follow the lectures and take notes, which will make the quizzes very easy. Other than that the excel projects seem difficult at first, but in reality they aren't. Overall great guy, was very helpful with this being online because of COVID.
I had Prof. Arakawa Winter 2021 quarter for E-commerce and was blindsided by the content of the course based off of the title. Even though I didn't expect it, I learned so many tangible skills that I can apply to my career after graduation this spring. Be prepared to work for this class, but you will not regret it. I learned the foundation of HTML
The content of the course was not what I expected at all. Lecture content and the excel portion of the class do no coincide at all. Most of the content was way over my head and very technical. 5 short essays about tech articles. Quizzes not impossible but not easy. Group project was OK. Take him if this is a required class. Super kind and funny.
First, I was totally not expecting this class to be what it was (not in a bad way). Half of the content came from an e-commerce textbook and the other half focuses on HTML coding. It was super fun to learn and I actually looked forward to the labs each week. His midterm was kind of tricky but only because I ran out of time. Otherwise, awesome.
Super easy going guy. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Always willing to help if you need it, and makes assignments super easy
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU HAVE A MAC! I had a very difficult time keeping up with everything and he was not of much help during these times. He did offer to zoom for a couple of students, but I wouldn't want to zoom my professor 4 times a week because that's how often I ran into a technical issue in this class. Group project is RIDICULOUS
Rambles during lectures and is constantly sarcastic and trying to make jokes. It gets old. There is a project worth 9% of your grade that is not accessible on Mac computers, which the majority of students use. He knows this, but does not care. Avoid.
Professor Arakawa has multiple group projects for this class that are all extremely difficult. In order to complete one of the projects you need a Windows device and cannot use a Mac device, which professor Arakawa knows but does not tell you until you need to start the project. Does not input any grades either which is not helpful.
First day of class he said he does not give midterms or finals anymore. Proceeded to give both. Large project which is not accessible to Mac users. This guy is one of the worst at DePaul.
This class is very easy going the first few weeks, but he assigns everything right at the end. Doesn't add due dates to D2L so if you don't check the syllabus you won't know when anything is due. You have to show up to class otherwise the projects are confusing& the group project has nothing to do with the class. but not horrible, would take again
This guy is one of the worst professors at DePaul. The group projects very difficult if you do not have access to windows. He is constantly going off on tangents and tries too hard to be funny. The lectures are all over the place. I truly don't understand how this guy is a professor at DePaul. AVOID.
Professor Arakawa was very hard to follow in lectures. The class tried to get him to record the zoom lectures so we could use it to help on projects and he would not record it. Then when students asked if they could record it and email it to everyone he again could not figure out how to give permission to let students do that. Do not take.
Take his class you won't regret it. He is super patient and loves to teach. 10/10!
Prof. Randall is pretty chill. He shows that he cares and always checks up on you during projects. 3 projects, some quizzes, and some papers (which if you do you immediately get the points). These papers were just looking up articles and summarizing them, so pretty easy. Take him for MIS140
Amazing professor. However, I found the material boring at times and just being an extension of BUS 101. Half the students were just on their phones the majority of the time. Definitely an easy A class and the exams are easy. Do all the assignments as there aren't many of them.
The class content and tests are fairly easy but I found it hard to pay attention to lectures.
Professor Randall is awesome! He made this a super easy class especially when using MS access he showed us in class step by step how to do everything. Consists of 3 projects, 6 summaries, midterm, and final. Overall the class is easy and it'll be hard to get anything lower than A-.
Professor Arakawa cares for his students and I greatly appreciated his humor throughout the quarter. I would recommend taking him for BUS 202. He is not there to babysit you so if you want to be on your phone and goof off in class you can. But if you pay attention and put in the work it is a rewarding experience.
Prof Arakawa is amazing! I have gone back time & time again to take any classes he teaches. One of the very few professors at DePaul that works hard to get you to learn. Willing to help, meet outside class, & is very approachable. He is a great teacher & educator, one of the best I have ever had. Makes going 2 class more enjoyable and college easy.
grades way too hard, assigns too much work, makes his class very difficult for no reason. took him my last quarter at depaul and regret it. if you can avoid taking this class you should.
This class is pretty straightforward. The professor is chill and always checks in during projects. Use Unstuckstudy and the provided resources - no textbook needed. Manageable workload overall, just stay on top of it.
By far one of the best professors I have had. He really pushes his students to learn the material, we learned how to code in HTML. He made himself available for office hours and was extremely flexible with his schedule. Offers midterm retake and extra credit opportunities. You have to commit a lot of time to homework and preparing for exams.
I won't lie, I started out on a rough start in this class. Coding wasn't natural to me and I failed my first midterm. however, I reached out for help and he really came through. Late evening zoom study sessions, going over my work, etc. He was totally supportive and wanted me to succeed. Thanks to his help and a lot of hard work, I got an A.
Coding lab assignments. Midterm and Final Exam. Quizzes online. 2 business cases (Very long essay). Group Project. Disorganized. require too much work and even give them in the last min. do not recommend.
Prof. Arakawa is a great guy but this class felt like a waste of time. We spent a decent amount of time learning how to code which was great but the other half of class was spent doing nothing. He goes over lecture slides and gives you a midterm & final based on the slideshows alone which felt kind of useless to me. Graded on attendance!
this class was disorganized. our homework felt pointless, and he assigned so much at the last minute. lectures were boring. most people could not keep up because he was so disorganized. he is nice and helpful, but this was one of the most unnecessarily stressful classes i've taken because he's so unclear with what he wants us to do.
I don't know why some students are saying his class was disorganized. He had everything outlined and gave the assignments with plenty of time to finish. His labs are complex but he always makes sure to help if you are struggling. There are a lot of assignments but manageable if you just read the outline/dates.
I'll help save you the trouble, please take a different professor. He complicates simple things, and knit picks everything you submit.
He's a nice guy, but I would not want him as a teacher again or recommend him. Complicates simple tasks, doesn't respond to emails efficiently, and the class dragged the entire quarter. There's lots of work that felt like “busy work” as well. If you don't want to struggle as a senior trying to graduate, don't take his seminar.
Throughout the quarter, the workload was manageable, but for some reason he felt the need to add extra requirements to make the HW difficult. I would highly recommend that you take a different course for your senior seminar..
I don't know about other classes, but if you are taking him for MIS 140 I recommend. He is so funny and nice. He will stay late just to help you, and our exams were not too hard either. Class is easy just check the syllabus on a weekly basis, and keep up with the assignments and deadlines and you'll be just fine. He does the best story times.
Professor Arakawa is a very kind person. He looks serious, but he's really nice. He's very patient. It's very practical. It doesn't speak like other business courses. The professor will teach you how to make web pages. If you attend class, there will be no problems in the exam. If you hate giving too many presentations, take this class.
He was a solid professor for Bus 202. Classes were super lecture heavy most of the time, but he was a nice professor. If you ask him for help he will help you. Only a few homework assignments and a few weeks to do them, but they do take forever and he's particular with how he wants it submitted.
useful content but the course is super backloaded; had 6 assignments due week 10 alone. very nitpicky and there is an unreasonable amount of homework. do not recommend. makes a huge deal out of small things.
He was so accommodating and responsive to emails- a very dedicated professor who has high expectations but will go out of his way to help you. Definitely attend his lectures or else you're ******
The class itself was fine, but I could not bother to pay attention in this class. Prof has a monotone voice and this class is lecture heavy. He also was a bit disorganized and didn't have due dates on the syllabus, they were only set until we discussed them in class. The assignments weren't spaced out too so the last weeks of class were confusing.
