Business Communications professor excellent. Has 4 assignments every 2-3 weeks that are easy to do as long as you pay attention to the lectures. Same thing with the mid-term exam and the final. Prof. Benfield Is very nurturing and displays both in class and out of class a genuine concern for his students. Take him, you will be glad you did.

Very helpful and will go out of his way to assist you in the class. He gives out assignemts every 4 weeks or so. Gives plenty of hints as to what will be on the exam, very clear on what is expected of you. As long as you pay attention in class, you will do just fine. He keeps regular office hours and is there to help you. TAKE HIS CLASS.

Very easy class. You dont really need the book, all test material is in the course resource book that you fill out in class every day. He tells you to read the book, but its a waste of time. The tests are very easy, easier than they should be. They take the class about 15 minutes to complete. No required speeches or class presentations.

Easy as eating cake. Teacher has a great personality and assignments are really easy. Tests are EXTREMELY easy, didn't even study for last exam and got a b. Easiest A I've ever received.

Pretty easy class. Useful information, both in business and in real life. Responds to emails/questions very quickly and clearly. The first test was easy and the assignments take some attention. Not crazy about the text but the information has been relevant.

No real need for text or study. Just fill out his resource book from the lectures and use it to review for exams. I got a B+ without ever studying for exams and no effort on the assigments. Just make sure that things are in on time. He is a nice guy and the easiest business class that you will take.

Best teacher I've had at Sac State. Very clear in his expectations, and very helpful in understanding how to get perfect scores on your homework assignments. Took the class online and it was wonderful. The resource book is a must, while the textbook can be checked out in the reserve room for the two 5 question chapter quizes.

Although this teacher was super nice, I personally didn't think this class was fair in the grading, especially since it was an online class. I thought that the tests were pretty hard and that the grades should have been curved. Wouldn't recommend the online course.

This is the easiest class I have ever taken bar none. Minimal HW. Tests are very short & easy. Take this class with difficult classes in a semester to allow yourself to devote more time & effort to the harder classes. Benfield is a nice person, but his lectures can put you to sleep. Ironic since he teaches communications.

One of the best professors! I took this class last spring. I apply what I learned from this professor to emails and letters I write at work. He gives you knowledge you will actually use everyday. Buy the resource book and take good notes because that is what he tests you on. I bought the text book and opened it twice.

If you don't take this professor you will be making a huge mistake. This is my favorite class I have ever taken and by far my favorite professor. Scranton Midterm and FINAL. Quizzes are online (10 min for 5 questions). Three case studies. Teacher is very approachable and has great knowledge of the course. Class is easy if you do the work and attend all class meetings. He talks about everything that will be on exams.

MGMT 102. One of the best teachers at Sac. Very organized lectures. Very easy to follow and understand. He's very helpful and class was fun, and I was an online student. Take him. I don't regret it.

I took the online course where his videos were streamed live and through the Sac CT. He tells you everything that you need to study and is crystal clear about what you need to know. You need all the textbooks because he actually uses them!

Professor Benfield's online course requires the student to watch each webcast. The quiz, midterm, final, and projects are all heavily related to the webcasts. If you don't watch them on a regular basis it's hard to receive an A. Trust me, you don't want to watch 8 episodes in a row last minute. If you do watch them this class is easy.

Taught in a way that made me realize how important communication really was. He is kind of soft spoken however so I had to turn the volume up. Wish I would have taken him in class instead of online. Utilize his office hours! Everything is pretty easy except the final has limited questions and is related to ALL chapters so it is comprehensive.

The class is easy but because it is only 300 points, if you mess up on one assignment, you can bet your grade will go down significantly. His two homeworks are 40pts each, so I would suggest going to his office hours for help just to be safe.

This class should be Business English not Management. Watching vIdeos instead of going to class. Funny and nice professor but he was not clear sometimes what he wanted from you.

He is a concise. You need textbooks to really pass the course. You need to watch or attend his lectures. His exams are okay. You cannot take his quizzes or do his work from prior English knowledge, because they are in Business English base. He is understanding; I recommend going to his office hours if you need help.

Professor Benfield is amazing. Yes, there is grammar involved, but grammar is VERY important in business communication. Complaints made about him being a strict professor, are made by students who would rather receive a grade and no knowledge instead of maximizing their education and earning both. He is a fair grader and tells you what to study.

Although I dropped the class due to work issues, He is one of the nicest professors i've dealt with in years! Yes you have to pay attention and are required to follow instructions but we are adults deal with it! gives extra credit and is ALWAYS available to help in person or via e-mail. just don't rely on the videos or you def WILL FAIL! attend!

Prof is really good and helpful. Took the online class but you can go inclass. I recommend going inclass because there is extra credit. Note he does talk a lot about grammar so be warned. If I could ONLY have ONE take-away from my whole CSUS experience, it would be his course; hands down! His course ALONE, justifies the tuition and compensates for any other poorly-managed course at CSUS. One of the most beneficial classes that I have taken at CSUS. He is a great professor and really wants his students to understand the material. Took the class online, but had to take the final on campus. Some of the assignments are tough, but overall it was a great class and I learned a lot of useful information.

Content is not difficult, professor is helpful. His grading setup is weighted poorly Some questions will cause you to lose a grade and a half on a case, quiz or test. You miss one question worth 6 pts. your score drops to 85%. He only gives you a half hour for the midterm. I have had grades from D to A, only mised 2 questions got a D on a case.

If you do all the work you'll pass. He's very nit picky on grammar so be careful! I went to the writing center for tutoring and his office hours and only managed to pull a B+. Overall you will learn in the class and his exams are exactly what he says they are! So make sure you go to class, there's also a sign-in sheet for attendance.

I figured business communication would be a joke of a class with little to learn but everyone in the class pretty much agreed that there was a lot of really good material and so many different things to learn that you really can't find anywhere else. Very interesting class, but will def need to study. It felt like i was taking a core english class. The attendance points that are given every other class session adds up so make sure you get those. Use examples given to type help case studies.

Great professor! He's always willing to help if you have questions and is super approachable. Pay attention to ALL lectures and make sure you understand what's going on in class. It's definitely time-consuming but if you put in the work it's really easy. The book is all written in but he's very clear about what he wants.

Benfield is great. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and gives you information that will benefit you. He's clear and concise and you do have to ATTEND class to understand and follow the subject. Book is necessary and I actually reference it from time to time when I have to write a cover letter or e-mail! Great class!

I really enjoyed his class. His lectures are interesting and I found the information I learned there to be useful. I would not recommend missing any classes. You are given new information for a workbook everyday which you need to know for quizzes and exams.

One of the most considerate, genuine teachers I've ever had. Truly cares about his students and teaches with clarity and organization. Very fun, smart and easy to follow. Work hard, attend class, practice and it will pay off. He takes the time to really get to know each student personally. Would definitely recommend.

My favorite professor at Sac State by far. Cares about every single student, and wants each student to get an A, but its not easy!! He is so helpful in office hours, take advantage of that time with him. I took away so many things from this class and use it in the office to this day. Professor Benfield's class starts out easy and get's progressively harder. He is a hard grader on the case assignments. This class is an easy B, but do not assume it is an easy A like I did going into the class. Show up to class to get the extra credit, it actually adds up and can make a difference between grades.

He's a good professor. For his online sections, make sure you always watch the lectures, even if you don't live stream them right away. Class is evenly paced, you know exactly what is due and when. Have your RB open for quizzes. Make sure you see him in his office hours if you need help. He is approachable and overall a nice guy. Class wasn't hard.

Benfield is a professional, respected, and cheery professor. This class was made up of only 300 points from 4 assignments, 4 quizzes, and 2 exams (so there is not much room for mistakes). I would recommend the in-person class because you absorb the material better. He likes participation and answering questions. Not an easy A, so try your best!

One of my favorite professors. He is organized, straightforward, cares about his students, and wants everyone to succeed. You learn a lot in his class that is useful for your career. He lets you know what to expect ahead of time. If you pay attention, it's not an easy A but easy to pass. I recommend attending the in-person class.

GREAT professor! He is literally a human dictionary. He makes his own workbook, so throughout class you fill in the blanks. It's super useful. He is VERY picky with grammar, tough grader, but you learn a lot. It seems like an easy A at first but you really need to constantly review the material. He is caring, helpful, intelligent- take him!

Don't think this will be an easy A class. 300 points from 4 assignments, 4 quizzes, and 2 exams. He usually does not offer extra credit, so not a lot of room for error. Basically an English class, he cares about grammar, and truly cares about the students. Organized, and very clear in lectures. I aced the final in order to get an A by one point.

IF YOU TAKE THE NIGHT CLASS there is extra credit (amounts to 1% of your grade). Graded by very few things, that being said GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!! He is super friendly and you will most likely ace the papers if you double check with him in advance (don't go last minute). Super sweet and really wants you to succeed. Grammar is important!

This will be a hard class if you don't know grammar rules very well. When I mean grammar, know how to identify prepositions, prepositional phrases, passive voice (not past tense!) , when to use him, her, he, she, etc... the first half of the class focuses on these things. I had to relearn a lot of basics in order to not fail. Very few points.

I excelled in writing... Until this. The class is very difficult for people who have trouble dumbing down their writings. The class leaves no room for error with very few assignments. You either get it the first time or else. He grades tough, but fair. Makes himself accessible for office hours and cares but he wants perfection. Risky class to take.

I struggled at first in this course (took online) until I figured out that he would help you with the assignments. ASK Q's in his office hours, I turned my 68% towards the end of a semester to a solid B because I got perfect scores on the last (hardest) case study & the final. Great professor. This is not an easy A. There are only 300 points and no "fluff" assignments. If you don't do well with grammar rules then you will struggle the entire semester without getting help. I learned so much in this class but I could not manage an A due to point loss early on. He wants you to do well and is very respectful.

Professor Benfield is a super nice guy. The course material at first seems like common knowledge, but its not. Go to class. Go to his office hours! Dont assume you inherently know the topic. The course is out of 300 points so DO NOT slack at the beginning of the semester. Benfield will help you if you are struggling and he cares!

Seems like an easy class but don't underestimate it, I cannot stress that enough. Benfield is nice and approachable. Utilize office hours! Wants the student to do well. His TA is also pretty knowledgeable.

He's a good professor, he makes it clear what's expected of us, and does give all we need to do well on the quizzes/assignments. The problem is, many people taking this course will be using a style of communication they simply aren't familiar with, and it's hard to adapt your intentions into it (while keeping a low word count). One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He is such a tough grader and cares about grammar like it's a religion. He is willing to help you out but if you're looking to pass with a good grade, I wouldn't take his class. I learned A LOT which is useful but shoot, this class was so stressful. Total of 4 quizzes, 2 exams, and 4 assignments.

Professor Benfield is absolutely a fantastic professor. After taking this class I can say the things taught to me really stuck (in a good way). The most challenging part of this class is there are very limited assignments and quizzes in this class that are worth a lot of points. All of it leads to the final exam (which was only 23 questions).

All lectures are done through talking, does not write anything done so you HAVE to be there and listen, every word matters! But because of that, I learned a lot!

This class might be difficult if you struggle with writing. Otherwise, it is very straightforward. I took the online session and did not watch the videos regularly, nor did I watch them all. It's best to keep up with the readings and go to class or watch the videos. He answers all questions and uses plenty of examples.

He's good. His textbooks are his own and you'll need both to pass. Cheap and only features necessary readings and notes (no wasted material). Knows how to teach but he is extraordinarily BORING. Hard to stay focused and awake in his class. Can be easy or difficult depending on how well you understand the English language and its rules and nuances

have to buy the textbook HE wrote himself, but it's mostly fill in the blanks & lecture notes. i binged watched all his lecture videos before quizzes & exams & got a decent grade. know grammar bc those points MATTER. everything is straightforward in this online class, but put work in bc there aren't many opportunites to raise grade.

Professor Benfield is a great professor. He doesnt give that many assignments and the class isnt worth that many points as a whole. However, he gives you everything you need to succeed in the class: the resource book, lectures, etc. Just go to class (and dont skip class), pay attention, take notes, and youll pass with ease!

He is very kind and gracious. He will be my first choice if given the opportunity in other classes. His style is clear and expectations are reasonable. Whenever I had a questions he was quick to answer, knowledgeable and thoughtful. Grammar is a big part, but pay attention write notes and you'll be fine. Those who gave bad reviews didn't study.

I took the online class which was videos of his classroom lectures. Pay attention and follow along in the workbook. If you are capable of college level writing you should have no problem passing this class

Very good professor for anyone looking to take MGMT 102. He tells you what to study and has a TA who is very helpful. People who are giving him bad reviews probably did not attend lecture (or Zoom). Very nice but can go off subject and be quite boring at times.

Professor Benfield class was really easy. As long as you show up to class or zoom, you will pass.. HIs quiz and exams are directly out of his own resource book. 4 quizzes, 1 midterm and 1 final exam . I Would definitely take him again in the future if I ever needed to.

I took this class in the Fall during pandemic and he only gave us 4 quizzes, 4 assignments and they were all pretty simple if you showed up to the zoom classes and took notes. No expensive textbook is required, he has his own booklet and reading material to make it a lot easier and simple for you. He explained things very well. I recommend him!

He is very knowledgable in communication. The entire course revolves around the lecture, so just attend or watch the recording and follow along in the resource book. I didn't buy the reading textbook, and didn't need it. I only got a B because I missed the midterm. He is very kind, gives a week to do assignments, and repeats important info.

The class seems really slow and easy at first until you realize you never really learned the grammar that Professor Benfield is teaching you. He gives optional points for having your camera on. Be sure to take good notes in your resource book as the quizzes and exams are based on the material.

the class is pretty technical and gets nit-picky, but im not a fan of english classes as it is. he had 4 quizzes, 4 assignments, two of which were pretty tough, as well as a midterm and comprehensive final. attendance wasn't required and he recorded lectures.

Class is mainly based on a textbook created by him, with assignments and exams also based on it. It is filled in with information that he orally provides in lectures, which are also recorded. He is very understanding and tells students what he is looking for in the written assignments. The negative reviews that I see are personally not accurate.

I am not sure why there are any reviews below a 5 for Professor B. He is very approachable, and cares for his student's success. Learned alot in this class about things I used to take for granted like writing emails and being professional. Buy the book, show up to class and take notes. All examinations are from his lecture content, and open book.

Benfield is a real gem. The course was more difficult than I expected, but he makes it extremely easy to excel. He is clear about his grading criteria, exams are open note, a few short assignments. 10/10 would recommend.

I took professor Benfield for MGMT 101, and let me say what a fantastic class. This class has an application for every single person out there. The professor taught us so many valuable lessons in communication and really goes out of his way to not only provide adequate feedback, but also to structure the class in a manageable fashion!

Professor Benfield is a real gem. He provided every tool to get a good grade in his class. Lectures are so informative and prepare you for the exams. Im an immigrant and I LOVED his class. I learned a lot from him. I wish every Professor was organized and dedicated like him. I never missed a single lecture even when he records them. Hes the best.

Professor Benfield was a great professor that cared about how his students were doing in his class. He even created a "cheat sheet" for the class to use on the assignments and quizzes. Also, read the texts and watch all the lectures/videos he links because they will be on the exams. Words of advice when taking his class: don't overthink too much

I agree the writing style is a bit specific but I think it's appropriate for business communication. As long as you pay attention to lectures, take notes in the resource book, read the articles, and review your notes, it's not a difficult class. He provides lots of resources like practice quizzes. Very nice and encourages us to come to office hours

I recommend taking good notes on all the lectures because the quizzes are open notes and if you have good notes you'll be fine. All exams/quizzes are taken outside of class online which was really nice. Go to his office hours and ask for help, which may sound annoying but it helped me get A's on all the assignments because he tells you what to fix

The lectures can be slow and a little boring, but you can't say he doesn't give you everything you need to get an A. He wants you to succeed!

Haiya, if you don't take his class, you lose opportunity to grow. He cares his students, lessons are REALLY practical, he taught by his life experience and you can use it immediately in real life. Some parts are just a little bit difficult but he has extra credits to cover. He wants you to actually understand and thrive. Best class I ever taken

Almost like an English class; focuses on grammar, spelling, etc. Kind of a stickler for grading, but since the rules are so easy, it's understandable. Lectures can be long, but they're super easy to follow. Notetaking consists of filling in blanks. Just pay attention during class! Exams are open-note/book. Easy A, and a caring professor!

He wants you to write in a very specific way and is picky about grammar. Some aspects of the exams and assignments are challenging. Apart from the grammar issue, all exam questions are straight out of the resource book, without which the class will be difficult. He offers practice quizzes and posts recordings of the class as well.

Professor Benfield is easily the best professor I have had in college so far. He is very kind, caring, and easily accessible. All of his exams, quizzes, and homework assignments are open note, but make sure to attend all of the zoom sessions and fill out the resource book accordingly, because he gives you all of the answers.

Easiest class I've taken at Sac State!! Benfield makes the class so easy and there is ZERO homework or outside work. There is just one weekly quiz that is very easy and based on what he lectured about during that week (word for word). 2 exams are similar to the quizzes. Very minimal writing for a "writing-based" course.

He is a good professor that really tries to encourage students to participate. In order to pass the quizzes/exams you must attend class and take notes. The notes can be used on the quizzes/exams. If you do all this you will pass with an A. If you are confused he will answer and clear up any confusion.

He takes attendance during class and also has quizzes every thursday. The quizzes are 10 minutes long and course curriculum is NOT hard to understand. He also does have a resource book for notes which is nice and all quizzes and exams are open notes. I highly recommend him. If you miss class, he also records his classes and has practice quizzes.

I took his 9 am class and thought I would have difficulty going, but he makes the class engaging. It is an easy class, but I recommend taking him in person. All the stuff you need to know is in the resource book we work on in class. 5/5 professor. I wish he taught other business classes

Great professor who cares about his students and is passionate about what he teaches! Lectures were dull and he has his own textbook for articles and workbook but nothing to turn in. All quizzes are taken during class and you get good feedback once it was graded. Don't try and use AI to knock out your answers lol

Professor Benefield is an amazing lecturer! All of the material is from his "Resource Book" which is very helpful for exams and quizzes (open book). Two exams and one 10 minute quiz every week. There's no homework so your performance on quizzes heavily affects your grade. He does not give extra credit. Pay attention in class and you will pass.

No homework at all. No projects. No papers... He has a weekly quiz reviewing the weeks lecture but they are all open notes. He is clear in his lectures and his quizzes are about 5 questions max and are all super easy. If you pay attention and take the notes, you should do just fine in this class. He is a very caring professor.

He's a very caring professor, and there's a weekly quiz that's fairly easy if you're paying attention. He records the Zoom classes and uploads them to Canvas, which is really helpful for reviewing the material later.

Professor is honestly the most caring person I've ever learned from a college level teacher. He basically spoon feeds you the answers to everything. I think if you don't get an A in this class, you didn't pay attention in class. He gives off Mr. Rodger vibes, and he will do anything in his power to help you, as so as you do it correctly.

His class is pretty easy. Just make sure to really pay attention when he lectures because everything he says is on the quizzes/tests. The only thing difficult in the class was feeling anxious every week because he only gives 10 minutes on the quiz! Overall, pay good attention and you'll do good. Material was easy

Textbook is necessary, as you take notes in the book, but Webster's Guide is NOT needed! I really enjoyed this course, never had any hw! Quiz is every Thurs.

This class was pretty easy for me. There's quizzes every Thursday and a midterm and final exam. All open note so just write down everything he writes down and you'll do good. He's really nice and genuine too.

i really liked this class, we had a quizz every Thursday but no homework and the quizzes were like 5 questions and all super easy, we do kahoot for extra credit which is cool. easy class to pass and he has a resource book that we use to take notes which makes everything easy to follow along. do not need the Webster's Guide he puts on materials list

My favorite professor at Sac State! He is passionate with what he does. His lessons are not only interesting but they are all applicable to how you present yourself in a professional setting. It is really sad that he is retiring this semester but I am so grateful that he became my prof for this class!

He is retiring but he is a great professor. He's nice & passionate in what he's teaching. He uses a resource book that we take notes in and we get to use it for our quizzes and exams. No hw, but one quiz for 10 mins every thursday. 2 exams. Played kahoot for extra credit. Records zoom classes & uploads to canvas. Uploads practice quizzes on canvas.

I took this class online and I was out of the country for the firrst half of the semester. Time difference was hard. However, he is a very nice and understanding professor that truly wants his students to succeed. All his lectures were informative if youre actually listening. 10/10 would take again.

Took during Spring 2025. Class was easy even though weekly quizzes were 10 minutes, midterm was 30 minutes, and final exam was 45 minutes. Professor is clear and concise on quizzes and exams.
