Great Prof. Only difficulty was the hard exam q's.
He was a hilarious teacher!! Did anyone else notice that he NEVER BLINKS?! But other than that, he's a good teacher, but hard. REALLY hard quizzes and exams.
very fast note taking needed, hard to keep up, knows extreme amount about economics, good prof, just really hard class. interesting guy
Bring your A game! Must be at class to keep up. Will learn a great deal in this class! If you want to learn econ? This is your prof!

a wide-eyed maniac
Nice guy, but super hard tests
INSANELY HARD. Lectures on stuff that isn't even in the book (Monopsony).
Incredible econ mind!
his class isn't easy- you really need to study but he is an amazing teacher- you never even need to crack open the book because his lectures are so in depth- he knows exactly what he is talking about and is willing to help anyone that needs help
Bennet is an extremely strange guy, but the man is brilliant. He gives entire lectures without once looking at his notes. His tests come directly from your notes, but are very difficult. If you know your notes very well you will do very well on the test. If you want to learn economics, you should take him because you learn a lot.
I had him for both Micro and Macro and I enjoy his craziness. Most people think he is weird though. His quizzes are kind of hard but I think it is worth it to take this class. There are easier professors but this experience is great.
Never a wasted moment of classtime. Take thorough notes (very do-able, everything on the board), don't need to read text. The exams are difficult, but fair. (Most confusing is the mc. Few per exam, but each are 4pts, & obviously, no room for partial credit). Last exam = a lot of courtcase material memorize. An A grade is possible.
The clearest and most organized professor at Gonzaga. You will learn everything at lightspeed, have it all in your notes, and waste none of your time. Do not miss class or you will be really lost. His tests are rather hard, as he requires you to put thought into the material you learn, and connect several concepts, instead of just regurgitating.
I Agree, this guy can teach this stuff so it makes sense, but there are usually some confusing questions on the quizes. I definitely had to study for quizes, and sometimes students' questions confused him, but aside from that, great class.
Bennet is a really FAST teacher, it was hard but not impossible to keep up with his notes which often are hard to find or nonexistant in the book. However, he is very approachable and will help you understand any material you don't understand. DON'T MISS CLASS but if you do make sure that you get all the NOTES and STUDY them.
If you are one to not go to class, don't even bother taking this course. Near impossible to do well on the quizzes without coming to class. If you are willing to work really hard then it will be fruitful, it is definitely not a casual course. He is very talented though, if you really want to learn economics.
This guy kicks as*. Fo shizzle my Nizzle!!
This class was very challenging. I'm an average student and had a very difficult time. He rambles off on notes and expects you to write down everything he writes on the board and know it. He is so impersonal and tough. Only grades are hard quizzes.
He was very difficult to understand and follow. He hardly clarifies what he means when someone did ask a question. Basically he comes up to the board and writes everything while he is speaking and then you leave. 2 tests, IMPOSSIBLE. He doesn't even give freebie points on quizzes, those were just as hard. DO NOT TAKE.
You know in the movies, where the college students are writing so furiously the whole class period that by the end they are sweating and their hand is cramped? That is this guy's class. However, I have never once opened the book and I am doing fine, and he explains the material clearly. No homework. Guy is a little nutty, but that's alright.
You have to go to classes in order for you get at least C.
Bennett really knows his information, but his tests are ridiculous.
This guy really knows his****. You dont even need the book although it might help. He gives a lot of quizes but it keeps you on top of what you need to know. Like any Economics class, the tests are really hard.
Bennet is probably a genius. He explains everything so thoroughly and without lecture notes most of the time really. Never any homework, but the tests and quizzes are tough. He really expects you to understand concepts and not just know how and when to crunch the numbers. It's a hard class, so don't go here looking for an easy A or B.
Took both micro and macro with this guy. Great lecturer, but really geared toward the auditory learner. If you can learn easily in lectures you won't find a better class for you. Gives practice problems very similar to quizzes. No homework needed except studying and reading if you don't learn well from lectures.
Randall Bennett is the man. He explains things very quickly and thoroughly but if you keep up with his notes and attend class you'll be fine. And if your interested in Econ this guy is a genius.
Bennett is awesome. The only way you're going to do poorly in his class is if you're not that intelligent and then you shouldn't be in college anyway. Go to class, study, and you'll be fine. He is a GREAT teacher.
Very thorough teacher, his lectures clearly explain what you need to know, and his bug eyes and voice inflections crack me up. However, the quizzes are pretty tough because he expects you to know how to synthesize all of the information he taught, literally ANYTHING from a certain unit could appear on a test. IMO you gotta work HARD to earn an A.
Dr. Bennett is THEEEE man. He is hilarious (just the way he acts and talks) and is extremely helpful - all you have to do is ask. He is difficult, but if you go to his office hours, he tell you everything you need to know. Plus, he's wayyy laid back. Hard teacher. BUT AWESOME. I definitely recommend him!
Dr. Bennett's class is pretty tough, but in a good way. You can tell he really loves Economics. His lectures are very thorough, so listen closely in class, take good notes, study the practice problems he provides, and you'll do well in the class. The online textbook, though, is utterly useless. If you're interested in Econ, you should take him!
Bennett's class is somewhat difficult, only because your grade is based entirely on 5 30point quizzes (where if you miss 1 question your grade goes down by a letter, a midterm that is 100 points, and a 150 point final. The quizzes and tests are sometimes a little tricky but if you take good notes and study you should do decently.
He's a great teacher! He does not take attendance, but you will miss out on a lot of notes if you skip. The textbook's not necessary, I only read a few chapters. There is no homework, however he will give you practice problems prior to a quiz. Not an easy class, but definitely a worthwhile class. Midterm: 100 pts, quizzes: 150 pts, final: 150 pts.
Randy Bennett is awesome. He is so clear you do NOT need to buy the textbook. I thought the class was pretty easy, but I understand why some people thought it was difficult. The key is attendance. If you LISTEN to lecture and take notes you should ace the quizes. Highly Recommended.
Will write everything he says in class on the board. Goes over it all in detail multiple times if it is important. No study guide but go to class (takes attendance every day) and you should know what is important and what will be on the test. He teaches right out of the book so you dont need to buy it but it can help if you miss class
Go to every class, take notes, and actually study and you will be fine. Bennett is always willing to help so use his office hours!! I had him for both economics because he is so straight forward and cares about people understanding the material. Don't need the book but it might help conceptually.
Professor Bennet, Explain material well in class. No homework. Whole grade is based on quizzes and tests so you better know your stuff and focus in class. Gives practice quizzes before every quiz and it is a necessity to take good notes while understanding them. He also drops your lowest quiz grade which is hype.
Randall is a really nice guy. He's a super genius at economics, but he's so smart that he doesn't know how to explain macro to people who have never learned it before. I attended every class period, took notes, studied for hours before quizzes and tests, and I almost failed. Class is entirely lectures. Grade is 5 quizzes, a midterm, and the final.
Bennett just lectures the whole time but the lectures are VERY clear and he explains every concept very well. You will need to study his study guides very closely, because his quizzes are very tricky. No homework or outside reading from a textbook so the work load is light. Entire grade is based off of test and quizzes. Overall great professor.
Professor Bennett is so incredibly nice and one of my favorite professor here at Gonzaga. He lectures the entire class and goes through many examples in detail. You don't need to buy the text book, just look at his notes and you're fine. His class is hard so don't skip even though he doesn't take attendance. Study the problem sets and notes well.
Very lecture heavy make sure you show up and take notes and you should pass the quizzes. Midterm was super hard. Nice guy and willing to help but not the best teacher. Kinda unclear. Not the worst but not the best.
Bennett is a very nice guy but definitely has an odd personalty type. He lectures a lot and you learn a lot from him. The reason for my 2/5 rating are all because of his quizzes. He always throws curve balls that you never see coming. No matter how hard you study, never expect more than a B on a quiz.
Professor Bennett is one of the most intelligent professors at Gonzaga. Classes are lecture-based and very detailed. Everything you need is integrated into the lectures, so pay close attention. Study old quizzes, problem sets, and notes well. You must fully grasp the concepts and be able to think outside the box in order to do well in the class.
Prof. Bennet speaks quietly and his handwriting isn't the best so try and sit by the front of class. He moves quickly through lectures, but provides all of the information for the quizzes needed (no reading necessary). But be prepared to use office hours because he moves quickly. He also grades on few things. 6 quizzes and 3 tests, no participation
I took "Antitrust Policy & Regulation" with Dr. Bennett and had a good experience. Bennett made the course interesting and presented concepts in a pretty clear manner. The class is very test-heavy and those tests are particularly difficult. Good professor, but does not offer a walk-in-the-park.
Professor Bennett is a nice guy, but a very challenging instructor. He is old school in his teaching techniques, writes extremely fast notes, and is a soft talker. His class has a regimented structure that may work for some, but I found It to be difficult. To his defense, Econ is a tough subject so I cannot accredit this solely to his teaching.
Dr. Bennett seems like one of those professors who hasn't altered his course outline for about 10 years. He is very influential in his lectures and is very knowledgable in the subject matter. However, he is usually unwilling to work with students in finding a suitable way to learn the subject matter. Get ready to do the class his way or not do well
I had to withdraw from this class because I was so lost. There was no homework to check your progress, no practice before an exam/quiz. Textbook was unhelpful because it mostly explained the broad topics, no help on what would be asked of you. Bennett is probably better in-person, but he just jumps into things without explaining what they were.
His lectures are very dry and tough to follow. Your entire grade is made up of a few tests and a few quizzes, and there is no homework which makes it difficult to know if you understand the material.
If you enjoy a teaching style of all lectures with 0 feedback take this guy. He gives no homework which is nice during the year but you have literally 0 resources to help you study come finals. With no review, no homework to test your knowledge, and no feedback good luck being successful
Econ 201 with Professor Bennett was an extremely tough class. There is no textbook to go off of and he doesn't give any homework to let you practice what you've learned. He just writes stuff on the board and you have to try and keep up. If Econ doesn't come naturally to you, it will be a really hard class.
Straight up don't take this class. His quizzes are based on things entirely taught during the lectures (which he doesn't spend much time to explain and just works the problems as if the class knows what he's saying) and offers 0 resources to study from with the exception of a single non-comprehensive practice sheet before each quiz.
Bennett grades his class based on 5 quizzes, midterm, and final exam. This is the hardest class I have ever taken. After visiting office hours, and multiple tutoring sessions my grade did not improve (I am normally a 4.0 student). His lectures go very fast and he doesn't leave time for questions or explanations. Great guy but I don't recommend him.
Don't listen to all these naysayers. Randall Bennett is the best professor that Gonzaga has to offer and it's not even close. The economist won't care about you at all, but that's exactly why he's so great. He won't waste your time at all and gets straight to business. I would 100% take him.
To give background, I am a 4.0 student, I do very well in econ classes. Professor Bennett grades based on 6 hard quizzes (drops the lowest one), a midterm, and a final. I am always asking for extra practice and I still struggle in the class. It's not that the material is difficult, the way he words his test questions makes it extremely difficult.
Look, Dr. Bennett is an excellent teacher. He lays out the material in a way that is perfectly clear and logical. Thing is, in his class you're gonna need to take a B like it's an A. He hands out study guides for quizzes and exams but they're still very hard to ace.
Professor Bennet is a great teacher when it comes to lectures, but his quizzes and test questions are very unclear. You may understand the material very well, but his wording on multiple choice can be misinterpreted easily. 6 quizzes, drops your lowest score, and a cumulative midterm, final. No homework other than one sheet before being tested.
IF YOU CARE ABOUT GETTING GOOD GRADES DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He had no blackboard open and would give hardly any practice problems. He would laugh at people when they asked questions. Ends class early even if people still have questions. If you miss a day of class you will miss a ton of material and have no way to relearn it.
I would recommend taking Bennet for Econ202. He covers the material clearly in class. The quizzes are based on the notes in class, so if you go to class you should be good! There are 6 quizzes overall, but he drops the lowest one which is nice. Other professors have made econ confusing, but he explains it clearly.
6 quizzes and a midterm and final and that's how he grades. Super hard class but he is a good professor and lectures all class.
I have never struggled with economics until I took this class. Randy is a great person outside of class, but due to the class being graded on very little, as well as MC questions being very confusing, it is difficult to get a good grade. If you are worried about your gpa I would recommend taking another professor or waiting for summer classes.
If you want to pass you have to show up everyday. He uses packets and only grades quizzes. There's no homework but he doesn't use blackboard or canvas so you have to meet him to know your grade. He expects you to attend every class and if you miss he won't send you the work. He drops your lowest quiz score but the quizzes are packets.
this has to be the worst professor at Gonzaga, I made the grave mistake of taking both his Micro and Macro classes. He is uninformative in class lectures, and quizzes hardly reflect what he teaches leading up. This class would benefit from a curve. NEVER TAKE THIS MANS CLASS
this dudes a very interesting teacher. extremely difficult class. would not recommend under any circumstances.
Dr. Bennett dedicated no time nor effort to his students. He did not care about anyone's ability to actually learn economics. This class is made up from 6 quizzes a midterm and a final.Multiple choice only, and poorly worded questions that are completely different from the study sheets before each quiz.He is unfair and inconsiderate. DON'T TAKE HIM.
grade is only based on 6 quizzes and 2 tests. the long answer question are worth the same as multiple choice problems so even if you miss 3 multiple choice thats already a C. Awful at explaining concepts. gives us the concept once and expects us to know how to apply it in every scenario. laughs at kids when they ask questions. doesnt care.
Wouldn't recommend overall. He's such a nice guy and LOVES what he's teaching about, but you are graded on 6 quizzes and 2 exams. His multiple choice is rough: if you get one question wrong it's already a B. Free response isn't much better either. Doesn't have anything on Canvas, and only a letter grade you know when you visit his office. Don't rec
Worst teacher I have taken at Gonzaga. Under no circumstance take his class. Take the semester off and take another teacher. You are not going to get a good grade and you will not learn anything. He grades the whole semester off of 5 quizzes a midterm and a final worth %40 of the class. He is not accessible outside of class nor explains well.
This class was the bane of my existence. The one class this semester that I did not get an A in... I got a C+ but this class was so bad that I am actually happy with that. Basically impossible to practice the material unless you get some external thing to practice with. Look into the textbook online resource, since it seems like it might help.
Only grades quizzes, midterm, and final. Attend the lectures or read the textbook, but his lectures are great. He gives out problem sets to help you review before assessments. Assessments consist of a lot of multiple-choice, a few written responses, and some calculation problems. He is overall a very straightforward professor.
If you aren't very dedicated to the class you probably won't like his teaching style. Pay attention and take notes on the lectures and you should be fine. In-class participation is not required but if you miss a lecture you will likely fall behind. Definitely a different classroom environment, but among the easier econ courses I've taken.
Took him for 101 and taking him for 202. If you go into the class with the mindset that you're gonna gain something you will learn. While he doesn't take attendance, all of the tests are based of the lectures, so if you don't get notes from a friend you're probably screwed. That being said, I attended every class, studied hard and got rewarded.
If you take this class, then you will be up to the challenge. He is friendly, but he has a 60s teaching style. No blackboard, no canvas, no study guide, hard to hear voices. The only thing to prepare for the test is "everything we have covered in the class." Please choose other econ classes or wait till next term. He is the last option.
DO NOT TAKE. Randy is a nice man, however, his teaching style is extremely outdated, and the way he presents the material is very convoluted. In addition to these shortfallings, the tests and quizzes are extremely confusing, and this is exasperated by the lack of preparation material. Randy also chooses not to use canvas.
Randall Bennet was a tough professor. I don't understand how people were able to do decently in his class. The multiple choice on the quizzes are hard to answer as he doesn't spend a lot of time going over it in class. You never know what grade you have in his class because he doesn't use canvas. That's the biggest red flag. Don't take his class.
He is very old school and will not hand you your grade. The class is made up of a few quizzes, a midterm, and a final exam. He does not take questions during his lectures. That being said, he is extremely accessible outside of class and he is a very nice guy who wants to help those who want to learn. He doesn't use canvas so you can't miss lectures
The worst. Your grade will not be shown in Canvas, and there will be no assignments. All your grade is based on the quizzes and exams. TOUGH quizzes and exams. He also speaks really fast.
