Had him at Ferris. Excellent Prof. Really knows his stuff and makes it interesting. We really miss having him up here at FSU. Show up everyday and review your notes and you'll walk away with an A. His lectures are very straight forward.

Wonderful, Funny and helpful. I love this guy!!! But who doesn't. Born in Oakland, California so he is very open and liberal. Warning may be too liberal for West Michigan!!! You should know the authors of the books you just paid a small fortune for.

His attendance policy is a little absurd, but he's one of the coolest professors I have had in college. One of the only classes Ive had that is so interesting that I cant help but pay attention most of the time.

Good Prof., nice guy. One BIG problem I had with him though was he used the class as his own political agenda. That is not needed. Other than that what I can tell you is make flash cards, your gunna need them......

Definitely opinionated, which you will find either fun or annoying. Straightforward testing, which you will find either appealing or annoying. I was in the former both times, but it's up to you.

I loved Doyle...he was interesting, funny, and passionate about HST. I don't see why people thought his tests were hard--sure, you had to memorize a lot but what else did you expect a history class to be? I only studied a little and recieved an A :)

Ya this might be the coolest prof on campus...but this is by far the hardest classes i have taken....dont bother buying books its all notes. And you better have a photographic memory if u want an A...or for that matter a B...but still a great class

I'm not a history person at ALL. Make sure you study all the terms starting on EXAM 1! I got a D on the first exam, but after studying my butt off, got a B in the class. He knows his stuff. An excellent professor, just a difficult subject.

The tests are tough, but all they are are vocab. He gives you a list of the EXACT terms that will appear, all you need to do is make notecards. It may seem like a lot, but it can be SO easy if you're prepared. I got an A without any problem.

Easily the best prof Ive had at GVSU, and this is coming from a big Republican. Very interesting and funny guy who knows his stuff without demeaning those who think differently. You have to earn your grade, but if you dont skip classes, it isnt overly difficult. I took him twice and got 2 A's.

Great guy, HILARIOUS! History is not my favorite subject, but Doyle makes it very interesting. No surprises on the tests, he gives you all the terms ahead of time, so you just have to memorize them..which takes a while. Don't buy the books, he teaches you everything you need to know.

Very interesting lectures, but VERY hard tests. I had a B right before the final exam and ended up with a C- in the class because of stupid questions like "who invented barbed wire?" or "who invented baseball?" This was not my idea of a history class. Wants you to know insignificant details.

He's amazing and you get to understand a whole side of American history that you might never have thought about. He's my favorite prof for sure. However, they're right: the books are a waste of money. And I wasn't a fan of his book, either. Just borrow someone else's. It's not worth the money. But do take him, you'll love it!

Keep up with the Zinn terms. You may forget to study them because they're not on his study sheets but ON THE TESTS! Great guy, really funny but DO NOT WALK IN LATE!!! He will call you out and be a prick about it so if you have a class right before his, talk to him before hand and he won't yell at you.

Dr. Doyle lectures the whole time but he makes it interesting. You have to take GOOD notes as his exams are hard, there are no study guides- not a bad class if you like lecture and the way to study would be write out EVERYTHING on note cards. And memorize it all. The good thing is you never have ANY assignments or HW.

I love this prof to death! He lectures, but he's really funny and uses a lot of analogies to help students understand how what he's talking about applies in real life. It's really helped me get a grasp on the subject, and the class is really fun, so I look forward to it every day.

This was the best class I have ever taken at Central or any other place I have been. Professor Doyle knew the subject matter very very well and he knew how to make it interesting. Because of him, I am moving my focus of history to East Asian studies. He has opened my eyes to so many different things. Very very funny.

Great prof. Subject wasn't always exciting. I was always late for class. But I talked to him outside of class a lot and he liked me a lot better for it. He is also happy to cut tests, make essays shorter, and answer any questions if you get lost. Great professor!

He's a pretty good teacher most of the time, sometimes gets carried away on tangents. REALLY TOUGH at the beginning of Semester, but mellows out later on, so the first month'll suck but after that it's smooth ridin, study hard for the tests, don't just cram the night before, that was my mistake,only like five chances to build up your grade though!

Top notch prof in the department - is dedicated, knows his stuff and writes books. Not many do that now - how long will they be able to keep him? You better be on time for class and you better study for exams because they will challenge you. Don't expect the easy road - expect that you will a lot by being in Dr. Doyle's classes.

Professor Doyle's class isn't a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination, but the man is extremely well versed in the subject matter; always giving you the facts and insight into the issues and topics being taught. He has thus far been the best professor I've had in my time at Central. If you show up and put forth an good effort you'll do fine.

Hands down, best prof I've had at CMU. His class is extremely hard, and you need to take good notes and study hard from them. He's hilarious too, and fun to pick on (he'll pick back!!). He's been a truly amazing mentor.

Great Professor. You NEED to go to class and take very good notes on EVERYTHING he says. Dont need to read the text but you need to buy the novels, there part of the exams. Very intelligent person and you will learn a ton. 3 exams and 1 paper. As long as you go to class you'll be fine, he is willing to work with students.

if you are interested in history, politics or simply learning something about the non-western world take this class! he is a good prof. take detailed notes and study them, show up for class and be on time. he warns that people don't get A's in his class i got an A-, so its not impossible. he's reasonable and interesting you just have to do the work

Mr. Doyle is one of a kind. Coming from a person who loves history, I absolutely loved his class. Although some of the material taught seems a little biased at times (uses a lot of "progressive"and "democratic" historical figures) I knew his agenda political wise which I thought was uncalled for in a class room but hey over all great guy.
