Survey Wrd Flk Song Text was almost useless. Papers were very short. 10 one page papers one 5 page very easy. Tests were very easy if you used key terms. If you’re looking for an easy A take this. Looking for a "Real" music class look elsewhere. Given class at last minute may be reason for ease.

Griswold is super nice and easy going, I often felt though like he didn't really care what happened in class as long as we were able to finish early so he could go home. I enjoyed his class and had fun learning to play Indonesian musical instruments.Wish we could have learned more about the culture.

This class was soooooooooooo boring! He's not a very effective teacher and doesn't really try, even when all of the students are paying attention. But about 1/2 way through the semester, we realized that it was just going to be boring. One of the worst classes I've taken at CSUSM because the book is awful and his tests are hard to get A's & B's on!

An Ok class. the good thing is you dont have to go to class. All you have to do is go during the test and there is only 4. I didnt buy a book because you dont really use it the whole year during class but when studying for the test you need the definitions for for studying so it gets really hard before test.

This class was so boring. Study of pretty random cultures' music. Not all that interesting to me in particular. If you dont go to class, read the book and take a ton of notes, and you'll be fine. Total of four tests and each of those has a listening section so the book with cd's is quite helpful. Event critiques and term paper saved my grade.

BORING. Study your notes from lecture and you should be fine on the quizzes. The papers aren't graded hard at all, but I would recommend starting your final paper (an analysis of a single music piece) about a month ahead of time. He grades that one a little more strictly and it is worth around 20% of your grade. As long as you try you should pass.

Professor Griswolds class was pretty fun. The lectures were okay, I wish he would've added more words instead of just speaking them but thats just me. The assignments were straight forward and easy to complete. The 2 projects were very simple and easy to do as well. The quizes were okay but just make sure you use the book as well as his lectures.

Took asynchronously. The whole class is pretty much an A if you just do your assignments. However, the music analysis essay does take some time if you are not already familiar with music. No heavy workload and all the assignments are explained. Not a tough grader either. If you need a class that you can easily learn through, this ones for you

Wrote over 10 papers in this class but most of them were really short, super easy grader, did not always email back right away, sometimes took a few days. Final is an essay, Quizzes were easy, if you already know theory then this class is an easy A. Did not really need to look at the lectures but when I did they were very thorough and helpful.

I thought this would be an interesting class. However I felt like I was overloaded with written assignments. It wouldnt have been so terrible if I could at least choose the music or genre. The assignment subjects are very limited. Final paper is a huge chunk of your grade and 1500 word min. Directions for assignments vary from syllabus and online

Professor Griswold's class is very easy to pass as long as you put in effort. There are a lot of short writing assignments but he grades very easily. There are a couple of quizzes so make sure to pay attention to lectures (he also posts them online). There are two projects and a music analysis paper worth a lot of points, they are easy though.

professor griswold is cool and i love going to his class. i've been in two of his classes now. his lectures are informative and the workload is not bad at all. just make sure to attend classes because he does not post the lectures online. he makes it entertainin; bringing musicians, letting us participate, or even singing/performing himself!

Professor Griswold was a great teacher who was passionate about the Music World. The ratings seem to be all over, but if you pay attention to his lectures then you will pass with no problem. Or you can just show up to the review class that is every class before a test and pass with a B or so if you study all that is covered in the review classes.

Griswold is a pretty chill professor and organized lecturer. As long as you stay on top of the biweekly assignments and pay attention in lectures, you should be able to pass. Places all responsibility on the student; accepts late work and doesn't take attendance so just show up, pay attention, and pass.

Attendance wasn't mandatory but he did lecture. Doesn't grade harshly. Assignments consisted of concert reports, song reports, quizzes, and a final paper. Accepts late work. You get to choose what you want to write about for every assignment which kept the assignments interesting.

Super easy class. You will have one paper a week, a 300-word song review, or a 300-word concert reflection. Class is optional, but you will have a few in-person exams. there are two exams throughout the semester that are online, one being the final. You will also have a 1500-word final paper, but you have a lot of time to prepare for it.

A basic class, show up for lectures to prepare for exams! Write EVERYTHING down, including stuff not on the slides. Exams are standard and can be easily searched and memorized. Lectures sometimes don't connect with exams. Exams count heavily towards the grade. He can be moody but overall a decent person.

He is a very nice guy with a very neat way of presenting his lectures. His lectures are organized and intriguing. He sometimes brings in musicians from different cultures to present their music. Must do around 5 concert reports & listening activities, each around 300 words, excluding the final analysis paper which is 1500 words. It's very doable.

Only lectures in class, can be long. No grade attendance grade (did offer secret extra credit if you go to all classes). Tests based on lectures, some irrelevant questions (he sometimes doesn't finish lectures, but still on test), try to get them online. Lectures not posted, TAKE VERY CLOSE NOTES. Writing assignments more fun than class, use notes.
