She is so helpful and is pretty lenient with late papers/assignments. Great personality, respects the students. Overall an excellent professor.
Very engaging teacher who clearly has a passion for the material. Genuinely cares for the needs of each student and is extremely helpful if you need it. Get her if you can!
Great Teacher who cares a lot about her students, and is willing to work with you if need help. Not a easy class but if you are willing to put in the time you will be happy with the end result
She is very knowledgeable, but this class is very hard. She is definitely teaching this at a 300 or 400 level. Also, she seems to be almost bipolar. Most of the time she is nice, but she does snap at students fairly often. There are assignments due multiple times a week.
Her class is so difficult. If you don't like Shakespeare or don't know, don't waste your time. She assigns so much work and teaches at a 400 level. She's really nit-picky as well, although she is a friendly individual and does want to help you. I have done all the work, though, and I feel like I can barely keep my head above the water.
She's very very nice and sweet, but there are so many assignments- come to find out they don't matter and don't count towards the final grade. Final Exam is SUPER EASY if you study. 2 papers thoughout the semester, seemed easy, but she grades super hard. If you're not a good paper writer, your grade is shot.
There is a lot of reading involved in this class, so as long as you stay on top of it you should never get lower than a B. Missing a class will put you behind but is not a death sentence. Missing multiple classes could prove to be crippling. If you are one of those students who does not intend on missing any classes, this is the class for you!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Dr. Addicott! She is quirky and hilarious, and she really knows her material. If you are confused about something, no matter how stupid you think the question is, she will graciously and comprehensively explain it to you. Her assignments are not typical, but they are so much better and rewarding for that. TAKE HER!
She is not very helpful. Was very hard grader. If you are an average writer, you will not do very well in her class. She also has a very dry humor. So be prepared.
I took Dr. Addicott for a Shakespeare Lit class. We had to write 2 long papers over the semester, but she gives you 2-day extensions on every paper, and you can send 3 paragraphs into her before the due date, and she'll tell you what you need to fix. She made lectures fun and interesting, and I'm leaving with a love of Shakespeare thanks to her.
Into the topic and does her best to make you understand. Not a person where you are given easy participation points. No matter how much I read, participated in lecture, or extra time spent going the extra mile for 15th century literature I still received a bad grade. Never received lower than a B on a paper until now. Workload is ridiculous.
Really great person but extremely hard grader. I've never gotten below a B on a paper and I got straight Ds in this class. There's a ton of wetting assignments and they're really difficult to fulfill all her standards.
I think that she knows a lot about this subject, but she was kind of scatterbrained in class. She took a long time getting grades back, and the class itself was quite unorganized. You will learn a lot about Shakespeare, but half of the time you will have no idea what is going on with the actual class.
The class itself was very boring if you do not like or understand Shakespeare, but Dr. Addicott does a good job with with going into detail with each play which made the final SO EASY because all you have to do is study your notes from class lectures. 2 long papers and she grades them really hard... You have the option to make corrections to one.
I absolutely loved being in Dr. Addicott's class. I took this class to fulfill one of my gen eds (and because I love Shakespeare). The class was very interesting, and Dr. Addicott is a very enjoyable and intelligent teacher. There is ALOT of reading and hw, but as someone who enjoyed the subject, I left the class with a better love of Shakespeare.
She is really helpful at helping you improve your writing, and you can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches. I found her very nice, but it's very important to participate in class discussion and follow along with the assigned reading. Take her class if you can!
I really liked Dr. Addicott! She was really understanding about deadlines and you can tell she cares about her students. She is pretty clear on what she wants on papers and is a strict grader. Do the reading. Overall I really liked her and hope I get to take her again.
Dr. Addicott is the best! She was helpful with reviewing papers and was flexible with the schedule if anything popped up. My only problem was that she had to cancel class a lot; however, a lot of those things she couldn't control and it wasn't a huge deal in the end. Would definitely take again!
She's a good teacher and easy grader. She does like to throw out random assignments but you get to vote on whether to do them or not as a class. She seems to assign more work than necessary but she is an easy grader. I would take her again but it is kind of annoying how she adds small assignments sometimes. Pretty easy class overall. Testvery easy
Fun class, respectful discussion, few essays. She is very friendly and available outside of class.
English 298 is not an easy class, but Dr. Addicott made it a lot more manageable. She was always in touch with our class about realistic progress and would often shift deadlines if she noticed that we were struggling to keep up. She is a clear grader and doesn't use a lot of time in class for lecturing that is unrelated to the current assignment.
Dr. Addicott makes ENGL 198 fun, despite the amount of reading and lots of small, time-consuming assignments. She cancelled class a couple times for reasons beyond her control. Overall, follow assignment directions, be willing to edit your drafts, and an A is certainly attainable. I loved Dr. Addicott and I can't wait to take her again for 298!
Dr. Addicott is amazing! She makes Shakespeare's plays interesting and makes me want to learn about them. The class consists of two papers, an annotated bibliography, and a few other small assignments. If you keep up with your work, you'll pass. You also get a chance to redo one of the papers and she gives extensions on everything if you just ask.
I think Dr. Addicott is an excellent professor. It was a decent bit of work, but nothing unmanageable. She's generally a pleasant person and she's very understanding when it comes to stress, personal situations, etc and will accommodate you if you're having any difficulties. Fairly easy grader, but does expect a lot.
Dr. Addicott has a deep love for busy work. For example, on a paper requiring 6 sources, she decided to up the number to 17 to "expand our knowledge base". If you can manage the shear amount of time necessary to do the volume of busy work, she does grade fairly easily. However, just managing to proficiently produce the work is a challenge.
Shes excellent. She does give a lot of work, but not much more than others because 298 is not an easy class. Shes so good in everything else that any extra work is worth it. Shes as flexible as possible with topics, and even let me get a head start on research in my areas of concentration! A lot of students I talk to say they wish they had her.
She loves busy work. On a paper, she wanted us to use 17 sources when only 6 were needed. The busy work is a major waste of time. Take a less time-consuming Eng 198/298.
Really good professor! Obviously knows what shes talking about and tries to help in any way possible. She genuinely wants her students to do well. Would definitely take again
She crammed everything into the last couple weeks and its dufficult to get an A on any paper
Dr. Addiciott loves what she does. She wants you to succeed in everything that you do and is one of the most caring professors I've ever taken. She wants to help you along the way and will answer any questions you have along the writing process. She doesn't pressure you into doing anything but does what she is required. Very generous grader.
She graded papers extremely hard. She said at the beginning of class this class is not writing intensive to which I was met with a 78 on a paper she proofread and said nothing was wrong. She also said we would not do mandatory assignments on readings, yet shes now assigned 8 of those on top of cancelling class often, making it hard to catch up.
She seemed really kind in the beginning, but as the year progressed she slowly became more of an adversary. She proofread my papers and I made the necessary adjustments, but I still received a low grade. Oh and you gotta love getting an email telling you that class is cancelled and then being assigned a paper that's <24hrs later instead
MUCH harder than 198 because your grade is contingent upon two huge papers. Dr. Addicott is a really caring and understanding person. However, she takes a long time to grade bigger assignments, so you may not know what your final grade will be until after the class is over. She does occasionally cancel class to give students time to work on papers
This was my second semester with Dr. A and she is one of my favorites. She genuinely cares for her students and understands she isn't the only class we have. She can be flexible with deadlines. The hardest part is an 18 source annotated bib. If you want to feel encouraged and believed in, take Dr. A! Seriously, she's the best.
Absolutely terrible.
Dr. Addicott genuinely cares about her students. She understands if you get sick or just get behind and is willing to extend the deadline on a lot of things as long as you ask. She does make you find 18 sources on your SSE when you only need 14 or something like that but it can be beneficial, so I didn't mind. Take her; she is the best!
Dr. A is the best. She is so understanding and gives great feedback. You do have to attend class because participation matters; however, her lectures are so interesting and fun. The exams are not bad because you get to use your notes. TAKE DETAILED NOTES. She is awesome, I definitely recommend her class!
She is very friendly and genuinely cares about students. She does give a lot of work, but she is willing to be flexible on deadlines. She is a lenient grader for most things, but you need to learn APA formatting well because she will take off a lot of points if you mess that up.
Dr. A is very caring and available to students. The only reason I didn't give her 5 stars is because the schedules for the papers were made in a way that they sort of pile up and I think it could be managed better.
She was a very caring professor and understood we were students. Class was structured well and helped when it came to writing our papers. The grading can be difficult but fair and will look over any rough drafts.
Dr. Addicot is great! She is super understanding and will always offer extensions! You will defiantly write a lot- but overall she was a great teacher!
Dr A is 10/10. Grade is based on Homework and 4? essays. A lot of writing but you learn a lot and she will read through your papers and help you a lot. Flexible with deadlines and offers extensions. I would say she's pretty tough on grading, but if you do exactly what she says and show her your draft you should be fine. Great class
She is super super nice and understanding but she gives an insane amount of work for an elective class. This class takes up way more of my time than any of my major courses. Work due before every class and papers are graded super hard.
Dr. A is very passionate about the subjects she teaches. She is also understanding that students don't always have the best circumstances to do perfect work, and in that aspect she's lenient. Given the circumstances with Covid-19, Dr. A made the best of a bad situation, and her class was worth it for that reason. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. A was an amazing English professor for BritLit. I had to take the class for a GenEd, but she made it easy and enjoyable. You have around 5 major projects, but she gives you the rubric and it's easy to do good on those. The rest is just homework and discussion boards. Just put in effort into the projects and you'll be good.
Addicott is one of my favorite professors I've ever had! Her class involves a ton of reading and writing, but she's very upfront about the assignments and gives you plenty of warning to prepare. She's also incredibly lenient if you need extra time or help on an assignment. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. 10/10 recommend.
Super nice and understanding. There's a fair amount of work but she is ALWAYS willing to work with you on deadlines and such.
Dr. Addicott was a great teacher and an even better person. She's one of the most understanding people I know, and she encourages us every day to take care of our mental health. She's willing to give you more time on assignments, and I feel that she grades pretty fairly. She'll check your work before it's due, and she's ALWAYS accessible.
Dr. A is a great professor. While there are a lot of assignments and readings to complete, she is willing to work with you on due dates. She responds to emails very quickly. Class is cancelled often but it really only changes the lecture schedule and may shift around some due dates. Very kind individual who obviously loves teaching and Shakespeare!
Dr. Addicott is simply amazing. She goes out of her way to help students. I had a few friends pass this semester and she was extremely understanding and helpful when it came to my late assignments. She allows you to revise all of the papers you turn in. I would definitely take her again, but she isn't teaching higher-level English this fall.
Dr. A was a great person - loved to talk, get to know us and was just caring and very understanding. However, she had so much homework - like I understand having homework but we literally had more assignments than classes I am taking for my major. She's an easy grader, but she also ALWAYS changed the syllabus, cancelled class last minute.
Dr. Addicott is a fantastic teacher who truly deserves more recognition. She values and encourages students to take care of themselves and put forth their best work. She gives great feedback on essays and is always willing to help. She is one of the most accessible professors at UT. I've taken her classes twice, and I consistently recommend her.
Dr. Addicott is the absolute best! Her class can have a heavy workload, but she is so chill and cares a lot about her students. She is super understanding when it comes to asking for extensions and I learned a lot in her class. She goes above and beyond to make the class as stress-free as possible. I would take her class again in a heartbeat.
I really like Dr. A as a teacher! She was very understanding if you ever had to miss class and has lots of office hours if you need help with anything. This class has three projects, and she was always open to helping you find a topic to write about. Only downside was I felt she had us read a lot sometimes but if you space it out it isn't too bad.
Best teacher ever. Cares about her students
Dr. Addicott is an excellent teacher, and she is very lenient on grading and deadlines. If you ever have a question, she is there to answer in either class, office hours, or over email. She does give a lot of homework, and a lot of those will be due by class. She is very kind andunderstanding.
Dr. A is an amazing professor. She gives great feedback, has frequent office hours, and is always willing to help you out with any problems you may have with an assignment. There is some work that seems excessive, but none of it is difficult. The projects are challenging, but she will help you. Very understanding and kind!
I loved Dr. A! She was the most caring professor I took this semester, and helped me improve my writing immensely! I loved this class and am coming back to take her 298 class next semester!
Dr. A is incredibly caring and understanding of each student's situation/needs. The class is mostly graded by a few major assignments, but Dr. A breaks it up into manageable chunks and checks in on each student's progress. She was able to take what I thought would be a boring topic (fabrics) and turn it into the most engaging class I've ever had.
Super personable and respectful professor who cares about her students. She does projects step by step and is incredibly supportive. I enjoy her classes and ended with an A despite struggling with deadlines. She lets you revise papers under A- for full credit.
I love Dr. A! She is very sweet and wants you to do well on assignments. There were assignments I would classify as busywork, but well worth having her as a professor. She is very forgiving on due dates and will help tremendously in office hours with papers. I got A's on all my papers, but she allows revisions for a regrade!
Nice, understanding, and helpful
Very caring and open to extensions on deadlines, and she gives a lot of feedback on papers before and after turning them in.
She was very kind and generous with feedback and extensions. Lots of writing!
Dr. A is a very helpful professor with a clear rubric for each project and is always available to answer questions or brainstorm ideas. She wants you to succeed, so if you complete the requirements for projects and the homework (which does seem like busy work most times) with a level of care, then you will get a high grade.
Super empathetic and forgiving of late work. Most assignments are graded for completion. Papers and projects take a lot of work, but rubrics are clear, and she provides extensions and allows revisions for higher grades. Not too much homework, but there are some reading assignments which can be time-consuming. Genuinely a great professor and person.
Dr. Addicott is a great professor. As long as you communicate about late work and absences, she is super empathetic and understanding. Read the syllabus and come to class and you'll be great. I've turned in plenty of assignments late and as long as I communicated with her she was very very very understanding.
I love Dr. A. She cares about and very much understands her students. She allows revisions on projects but is available to give feedback before submission. There's a chunk to read most days so know that and don't start it at 10 the night before. She uses ungrading so grades are based on the effort you put in. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Dr. A is one of the kindest and most considerate professors out there, and I highly recommend taking her classes. There is a lot of homework you have to complete outside of class including papers, projects, and readings but as long as you put in the effort to finish everything mostly on time, you should have no problem earning an A.
Dr. Addicott was a very good professor, you can tell she really cares about her students and if you put in the work it's easy to do well. As far as the class goes, there were two major projects with not a ton of other work. She is always willing to review your work or give feedback as well.
Dr. A was so nice and accommodating with her grading. She allows almost everything to be turned in late as long as you communicate with her and most grades can be made-up. She genuinely cares for her students and makes class fun and engaging. Would recommend highly.
Dr. A is one of the most caring and helpful professors I've had. She shows a clear interest in the success of her students and is more than willing to help. She's always cracking jokes to make class fun and loves participation. Her assignments are graded on a complete/incomplete scale so do the work and you'll get an easy A!
Great professor, you can tell she cares about her students
Dr. A was awesome. She uses "ungrading" but the rubric is very easy to understand. She is very quick to answer emails, and she is very helpful on work. She also is very considerate of mental health and wellbeing.
Dr. A is amazing and just a great professor over all. She's incredibly understanding and cares for her students. Her grading system is upgrading and not only does it make it very easy and clear on how to pass and get an A, it takes off the pressure of keeping a high number grade like other classes. I loved her class and would recommend for anyone.
Dr. A is INCREDIBLE. I was dreading taking an English class but she made it bearable, even fun! I enjoyed it so much that I'm auditing her class next semester. The class itself was definitely challenging, but Dr. A is beyond willing to help. It was difficult but overall, I'm so glad that I took 112 with her.
Amazing teacher, I have never been a fan of English but she made me enjoy the class. The homework is extremely easy and only given sometimes. She is so caring. If you talk to her some and participate in class she will love you.
Dr. A is a very nice lady. If you get to know her and talk to her, she will love you. She is very accommodating as well. She clearly explains how we can do well on our assignments, and if you just do the homework, you'll get full points. She is very kind, and I would absolutely take another one of her classes. If you need English, take her.
Great professor who truly gives that motherly feeling of care. Wants you to succeed in class and overall life. Totally smashing the job.
Amazing professor, she is very understanding and down to earth professor. Highly recommend.
She's the best! Dr. A is an inspirational woman who couldn't set a better example for her students and other professors. She outlines a clear path to success in her class and she cares about you as a person. She is very understanding and is always on your side. She values you and is so kind. Please take her if you can! I promise you'll love her!
Dr. A is an amazing professor, and taught such an easy class. I submitted most assignments late, and she would still give me full credit. If you talk during class, and write well you'll be fine. Lots of in-class assignments that can bring your grade down if you don't go, though. Final is easy, and most essays are much easier than highschool classes
She was super caring and understanding. Also could tell she cares a lot about her content and is passionate about teaching it.
Dr. A was so so so good to work with. I ended up taking an incomplete in her course due to personal issues, but she supported me through it, and made sure that I pass the class. The smaller assignments don't count towards much of your grade, so it's okay if you miss a few, but don't let them pile up.
Dr. Addicott was a very caring person and made it very easy to communicate with her on any assignment. Attendance is mandatory but her class was never one that I dreaded.
Absolutely loved Dr.A! If you go to class and give even a little effort you will get an A. She is so kind and just wants her students to succeed. Also she cancels class all the time!
I came in expecting a regular english teacher who was there just for the money, but that's her. She is a loving/caring teacher who has your best at heart. There is a good amount of writing/reading, but it is over topics YOU chose. There is outside work, but she helps immensely, is very forgiving, and its not hard at all. Favorite professor here.
Dr. A is an amazing professor who brings unique insights to Shakespeare's work. You must be in class to take notes, which are the entirety of the final exam. However, miss a few and you'll be fine. Just ask a classmate for notes. For essays, she really focuses on your own interpretation and gives you any outside sources she would want you to use.
Very kind and caring about students!
She is genuinely the sweetest human alive. She sees you and loves to get to know you as a person before a student and will always value mental health and well-being over grades or due dates. Such a sweet, motherly type figure and literally an angel. She also cancels class kinda a lot and gives extensions for anything..
Dr. A is genuinely the best professor. She is always available to help you out with papers that can be difficult to write. She gives you ideas for starting papers and genuinely wants you to succeed in her class. If you have the opportunity to take her, do it.
Truly cares about her students and is always willing to help. If you need help with any part of writing a paper, she will always help and give advice. Would 100% take her class again.
Dr. Addicott was the best prof I've had. She is so caring and funny. Very lax about extensions on papers etc. gives good feedback and has passion for the subject. She is personable and a kind soul. Easy grader. She wants you to be successful and offers tons of ways to get help. Would absolutely take her again!
