Makes you feel very uncomfortable in the classroom. Calls on you when you don't volunteer. Freaks out if you don't do things a certain way. If you ask a question she makes you feel stupid.

I disliked her teaching style, and her need to be a child again. She is very unprofessional and a waste of space.

I had taken biology in high school and most people said it was pretty much the same but with Papke it seemed like she made everything harder than it had to be. I wouldn't recommend taking her.

The worse professor I've ever had at SWIC. Her teaching methods are odd, she's unclear, and disorganized. I really don't recommend her, it was a horrible, horrible class.

Papke is a nice lady but a terrible professor. Her tests are Impossible and she gives a quiz at the beginning of every class. The online homework is confusing. Don't take, don't recommend.

Her teaching style is awful. Does not focus on what is actually going on. Not very good at explaining. You ask a question and she doesn't really answer it. 0/10 would take her classes again

Although the teacher is kind, she has rushed the class so badly 90% have a low D or F. She doesn't realize we cannot learn four chapters in four days, and has admitted she doesn't know what she's doing. Most classes have just gotten to chapter 2. I would not take this class again. I feel bad because only I can drop, and the students are stressed.

Not a very good professor, lectures did not help me at all. I had to teach everything to myself in this class. Will mark off for stupid things on pointless assignments, had to buy 12 packs of notecards for this class.

Nice person in general but the class is very difficult for a basic biology class. Disorganized and doesnt know what she is doing half the time. This class depression. The tests are basically impossible to pass. If many people are failing the class, this should tell you something about her teaching style. Class is made up of labs, tests & quizzes

You can tell Dr. Papke knows what she is talking about when she actually talks about the course material. However, in 100, Dr. Papke does not teach; she simply oversees her students working. Tuesdays are lab days and Thursdays are test/quiz day. You have to watch all of her lectures outside of class, read the text, and teach yourself the content.

She going to continue to say that are teaching skills are best ways to learn and pass, but everyone in the fking class is failing. She doesnt teach at all. AT ALL. Lectures days are for working with a group of students who dont get the content either, and most your grades is depended on other people. She just walk around to acting like she care.

By far the worst professor I ever had. Made us work in a group, when I mentioned that I was doing ALL the work, she basically said "it's your own fault. can't help you.". I'm lucky that I passed with a B+. I'm a Running Start student and my GPA suffered because of it. 0/100 do not take this class. Did not teach well either. All outside coursework.

Dr. Papke is a horrible professor and I would never take one of her classes. Her lectures are unclear and she didn't even teach that much. She would make us do most of the reading and work without any help.

Dr. Papke doesn't understand that she needs to SHOW students how to do the assignment. If you're not doing well in her class, she won't be very nice to you. She is not very specific when it comes to labs. She's supposed to be a TEACHER, not CRITICIZER. Not a helpful professor. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.

I've never had a worse professor. She didn't answer emails fast, and when she finally answered, she had an attitude. She didn't upload grades until the course was over even though I repeatedly asked for feedback or grades. I went the whole semester thinking I was doing okay, just to find out that I got a C, and lost my scholarship because of her.

This professor has been an absolute nightmare for me. If anything she doesnt care about her students whatsoever. Im on the online class and she makes things due on a specific date every week and not just all at the end of the week. All homework is due on Monday when the week starts on Sunday, on top of that likes to assign tests 2 weeks in a row!

This professor was the absolute worst!! She piles on assignments throughout each week and doesn't even grade them until the very end of the semester. I can tell she's passionate about Biology but not about teaching it. She is rude to students that don't understand a concept the first time and is basically useless when you ask for help.

If you need someone to actually teach you, don't take her class. We didn't get any time to review before her weekly quizzes, the only time she "taught" was making us watch her 3 or more hour long videos over the week. If you think you know the material, you don't. Her quiz questions are way too in depth. Knowing definitions won't get you anywhere.

The video lectures she has are hours long every week and taking tests/quizzes as a group is helpful only if your group is smart and actually cares about their grades. Doesn't answer emails. My best advice to any new students would be to read and answer the learning objectives she posts for the chapters using the textbook and skim the videos.

Dr. Papke was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Her notes took several hours every week and they did not even prepare me for her tough quizzes every week and her massive tests. This class is a giant group project. If you do not get assigned with a group that cares about their grades then you definitely will not do well. Never answers emails

The entire class was a MASSIVE group project. We started out with 4 groups of 6, and by the end of the semester there were only 2 groups left. Papke doesn't work well with students that have learning disabilities or extra needs at all, and bascially forces students to teach themselves. Lectures don't even take place in class.

I would not take her class if you don't have to. The lectures were ALWAYS online and even though they were about an hour and a half each they took 4+ hours and some were recorded a while ago considering some of the chapters didn't match up. You have a quiz almost every week and then a big packet afterwards that you work on with your group.

By far one of the worst professors, I've ever had in my life. Everything is a group grade, so if your group doesn't care about passing, you won't. All lectures and notes are online which takes four-plus hours to complete. If you reach out for help, Papke makes absolutely no attempt to help you.

Extremely disrespectful and has a distasteful attitude with the class. Make sure you refer to her as Doctor because if not you will be reprimanded as "she is not a professor, my job and marital status have nothing to do with how you address me." Says a lot for SWICs biology department that she's asked back each year.

DON'T take her class it was AWFUL. I am pretty decent in biology but as a person, she was really rude & didn't enjoy answering people's questions and teaching her classes. Communication is not her thing, all of her lectures are outdated and online. She has weekly quizzes and tests. All of this class is based on group work.

Dr. Papke is very knowledgable about the class and you can feel the passion through her lectures. However her lectures are online only and not done in class. The class period was used for labs and tests, this leaves virtually no room for questions when studying. Really hopes she revises her teaching method do not take the class with her if possible

During lecture class we were split into four groups. She would give us packets and tell us to figure out the information from the book and group members, when still confused she wouldn't provide any helpful information. Doesn't seem to acknowledge that most of us have other classes and lives that sometimes interfere with school.

We had a group assignment weekly handed out on Thursdays and expected to be finished by the end of class. She would randomly choose a packet and grade it. Whatever grade that person got, was everyone in the groups grade. As someone who is paying her own way through college, I would expect my own work to be the work that is graded.

She never takes your personal grade so, if you do good on a quiz personally, it doesn't matter because it will count with your group quiz so, if your group bombs it, then you bomb it even if you did great on your personal quiz. Lots of lecture videos, will take about 4 hours if your life every day.

This flipped classroom model involves outdated lectures with poor audio quality, taking about 3 hours per week to watch. Quizzes and tests are group-based, with pros and cons. Activities post-quizzes are frustrating, with nitpicky grading and no class-wide clarifications. The professor lacks empathy, rarely explains, and is rude. Avoid this class!

Class is incredibly groupwork-heavy, which I didn't mind. However all material you must teach yourself with lecture videos from COVID era. If you are struggling, misunderstand something, or say something wrong Dr. Papke will insult you or be rude despite not actually teaching any of the material herself. TAKE LITERALLY ANY OTHER PROFESSOR.

Honestly, I tried to give her a fair chance, but throughout the semester, her attitude was nasty, and she made many backhanded comments when people asked for help. She is very petty and made bio even worse for me. Sometimes, she can be nice, but if you get on her "bad side," that is out the window. If you take this class with her, good luck.

While this is an in person class, all the lectures are posted online and they are 4 hours each. She expects us to have done these and the 5 homework assignments per week. The labs can be very tricky and she is very selective with grading. If you miss any assignment, you have to write an essay to make it up. I wouldn't recommend her as a professor.

This lady is by far the WORST professor I have ever encountered! If you see her name, RUN to the advising office and demand a change! There is no room for mistakes with this one. Her lectures are basic. I thought professors were supposed to encourage, TEACH and support! She expects you to just know it all from her basic lectures and be perfect!

Accused me of acedemic misconduct on the 2nd week. Told me which hand to grab a slide with .. Finnicky is an understatement, I was hoping for a prof that would make me like Biology, pick someone else!

Papke is the worst teacher I have had in all my years of schooling. She uses a COVID classroom model, and she expects you to learn all lecture material on your own, a full chapter in a week. When it comes to in person class, it is all group work. It is extremely hard, and she essentially shames you when you ask for help. Take literally anyone else

One of the worst professors I have ever met. All our tests have a group portion so if your group does bad, you do bad, no matter how well you do on the individual portion. She accused my friend of academic dishonesty on a group assignment and was always rude and disrespectful. Honestly don't even know how she still has her job. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

She expects you to watch her videos, which aren't always good quality, and read the book for the course, and then will shame you if you still don't understand the lesson. She also does group quizzes and tests, meaning you can do well on the personal part, but if your group does bad, your grade is bad. Don't take teacher if you want to learn. AVOID!

I mean, yeah... this is as bad as it gets. Don't take her class. She takes Bio 100 way too seriously. It made me sad waking up on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

She can keep deleting this review but in the end her class is a toxic environment

this class was strictly watching the hours of YouTube videos weekly to understand what was going on. She didn't teach anything at all it honestly makes no sense to me. if you want a good grade, I highly advise not taking Papke.

Is on her phone more often than she isn't. Spent half of the class last Thursday holding up my hand along with my group. So long that our arms hurt. If you ask her for assistance to check your work she huffs and walks over, tells you that you are in fact wrong. Then returns to her phone in the corner of the class. End of semester evals, remember

Utterly horrid experience where she sits in the corner and gives some surface level assignment where you ask her a question and she responds by treating you like a toddler. I'm 23, treat me like it. I have class with her in 2 hours and I am dreading it

I took this class in Spring 2024, and I'm still haunted by how detrimental this class was. Gave out lectures that take several hours to take notes on- won't teach you herself in person. Your grades are dependent on your group mates. Don't let her discourage you from STEM- there ARE other professors who care about your success... just not her.
