I have Randi for pop culture and discourse, and I love her! She is awsome! She explains and works well with the students, but also understands them as well. I definitly rec. her as a teacher and you will really enjoy her class. She is the best!

Besides five reading responses (essays), we had to go to listen a guest speaker, involve in volunteer works, and two presentations. Both a thick textbook and a reader were reading requirement. She is a nice person, but not a good teacher. Hard-grader.

Simply amazing teacher. She loves what she is doing, and uses her great speaking skills to teach her students. I learned everything needed, and really came over my hurdle of public speaking. She cares so much about your success, and really acts as the shephard that guides you through. So far my favorite class I've taken, and I HATE public speaking.

Great teacher! shes fun, outgoing, and makes you actually want to go to class so that you wont miss her lectures. The group projects are a little overwhelming if you have other hard classes. The group projects are time consuming and we spent more time in groups than in lecutres.

Randi has been my favorite teacher at CSUN so far. She really wants you to learn, she is clear and can relate to college students due to her life experience. She is young, but still keeps her authority.

It's an interesting class and she definitely encourages class participation, which leads to a better understanding of the subject. She can be somewhat shallow and pick favorites, but overall she's fun and I can say I definitely learned something and wasn't bored.

I enjoyed coming to this class, very interesting subject that gets you thinking. She likes to hear other peoples opinions even if she doesn't like what you have to say. The class consist of 3 papers that are not difficult at all, 3 quizes(celebrations as she calls them) & one group presentation. NO Final!!! Highly recommeded.

Great teacher. Very friendly and loves to be invovled and personal with her students. ATTENDACE IS IMPORTANT, big part of your grade. You have three essays which are pretty simple, comprised of writing about personal experiences, a group project of your choice, and tests which are pretty difficult even if you study, but there is a study guide.

Absolutely amazing prof! Always interested in what YOU have to say but never forgets to integrate course material. Definitely shaped the way I view the world and intercultural communication. Forget about grades..You'll learn so much from her (hopefully if you are somewhat close-minded/bigoted). Truly an asset to this institution..One of the best!

Definitely plays favorites. Some students get a longer leash than others. Don't be late; she may not let you in class. If you're a repeat student play it careful. I don't think that she likes repeats.

You will learn some really valuable things such as how to write a good resume & how to research effectively.

GREAT teacher!! 3 group projects, individual midterm, group final. Make sure to pick a good final group b/c that's the same for the final. Pic is not an easy A, you have to do everything and work hard to get a good grade, but the work is very interesting. Pic makes this course interesting and teaches in a way where she makes the curriculum she teaches relevant to every day life. I highly recommend you take her!

It is ok. The usual. Quizzes, projects, papers. She is a tough grader; that's mainly because she is smart. She uses powerpoint for her lectures mainly but all you really have to do is listen to what she is saying and take notes. If you do end up taking her class--be prepared. It will mess with your feelings. That was the one thing I DID NOT like.

Took the course where I didn't expect it to go (in a good way)! Wasn't my easiest class of the semester, but totally worth it! Teaches you real life interview & job skills and helps you prepare for things that most classes should (but don't). Was extremely pleased with her innovative teaching methods, one of the best professors at CSUN hands down.

Pic is super intelligent and really engaging. She can be a tough grader but if you participate in the lectures it's not a problem to understand and get good grades. She responds to emails within a day and is totally willing to work with you. Definitely recommend!

Pic is one of the best professors I had my entire semester. She is so caring and loving. She knows what exactly she is talking about. She goes into the topics and loves participation. She expects that you come to class prepared by reading the materials. This class changed my life.

Pic is a great professor, there are a few quizzes but do the readings and you'll be just fine. Two essays that are pretty straighforward, a group project, and a final project with 5 different options to choose from. Shes open to various opinions but yes, shes gonna want you to defend your reasoning on why. its not that shes getting hostile. She tells students how it is and 9/10 times shes right. She doesnt pick favorites, however she does prefer when you participate and welcomes that. not sexist. some of these reviews are bias but shes amazing and intelligent

The class is great, especially if you enjoy enthusiastic opinionated professors. However, if you have trouble dealing with opinions that differ from yours (against Marxist ideals), dont take this professor. Gracefully, the grading criteria is straight forward.

Pic was awesome. She was super engaging during lessons and It never felt like she was talking "at" you. She'd be super open for questions and understood that none of us were professional public speakers. Her patience and helpfulness through anyone's nervousness was amazing. She made the whole class feel like a family.

Professor Pic is awesome! She has an interesting and engaging way of carrying out her lectures in a very organized way. She is a great communicator to present the material in a way that is not overwhelming. Everything she says will stick with you because she makes it that interesting. Professor Pic is a very enthusiastic professor, she may run off tangent a bit, but she always comes back to her point. She grades fairly & doesn't show favoritism. All these students rating her poorly fail to realize that they lacked something in their work or arguments and it showed in their grade, Pic is just an easy target for their ineptness.

Professor Pic was incredible to me in my own experience in having her for my interpersonal communication course. She is VERY educated, emphatic, understanding, and most importantly IMO passionate for what she does. As a gay man I felt so comfortable in her class and she created that space. This class will be with me until I get my bachelors.

You should absolutely take this professor! You can tell that she genuinely loves her job and cares about every single one of her students. Even if you are not the most comfortable doing public speaking, she helps build your confidence and makes the speaking environment very comfortable. She still cares even after you move on from the class.

Picarelli is a passionate, devoted educator who challenges her students to think critically about the world they think they know. Her readings, lectures, & activities are eye-opening. She genuinely cares about her students & whether they grasp the material, so class participation, thoughtful essays, and *reading* are essential to succeed.

You can tell she's very passionate about what she does. I don't go to zoom lectures but I watch her recordings & topics are always interesting to me I don't get bored listening to her. My only problem is that this class is only graded by a few things. Quizzes are only 5 points but requires a paragraph for each question.

I'm basing my eval of the professor, not the class. Really nice lady who cares about what she teaches. She's very quiz heavy, with paragraph responses but the lectures are very involving. I do not like the material at all, but she makes it bearable. Take the professor, but not the class.

You will always look at Gender in a different way after taking this professor. She is extremely passionate and knowledgeable on the course material which makes the material really memorable long term. Most of the class time is spent conversation style where everyone gets a chance to speak. There are quizzes based on the reading.

Professor Picarelli is an awesome professor! She really encouraged the class to be open about their opinions and valued the participation during the online sessions. Normally I don't enjoy participating for a course and shy away but for her course I did not hesitate at all. Great professor. Would enroll again for the course.

I loved Professor Picarelli's class! She didn't require a textbook and provided pdfs/ links to all reading material. I took her COMS435 online class where attendance to lectures was not mandatory, but she always uploaded the recordings for us to watch. She also created a blog project that became a great portfolio item for me!

Professor Picarelli is legitimately amazing! Easily one of the best professors/teachers that I have ever had in my entire educational experience. She is an engaging lecturer & her course materials are eye-opening/intriguing. She really provides a sense of seeing YOU & your work. I truly wish I had been able to take more classes of hers.

I'm a business major and took this class for my GE but it seriously helped me so much in my communication skills. Just be prepared to work hard and go above and beyond.

Such an amazing professor but damn her class is hard. It's a very time consuming class but I would recommend if you're looking for a caring, passionate professor. You do a huge group project that takes weeks to prepare. Despite that I would love to take another class of hers! This class has 2 group projects and a handful of quizzes on the textbook.

I took intercultural and small group w her & I would take her again. Small group was no joke there were 2 group projects that would make or break your grade but that is on you and your group. She is very big on fairness and gives great feedback. Beware of the quizzes though, do your reading and the extra credit, they help your grade. Take her.

Picarelli teaches in a truly inspirational and educational way. Yes you will have to read and engage with course material, and yes she will read your essays thoroughly checking for accurate use and comprehension of course concepts (this is a 400 level class...). Shes very supportive and understanding, just reach out. Extra credit is offered.
