Do yourself a favor, take his class
Very entertaining!

Very down to earth guy. Keeps lecture fun. His class is highly recommended.
He deffinetly makes class more intersting to sit through. I don't understand how anyone could fall asleep in his class with all the electronic toilet movies and filmed demonstrations of concepts....
He's a good prof (likes to keep things interesting...don't yawn or he'll do the "yawn dance" to keep you awake). I had trouble actually learning anything from his lectures, so I pretty much taught myself from the book. Nice guy, extremely difficult class, but I would definitely recommend him. :)
A very fun class to take since the prof. is a very cool guy. The class covers way too much materials but it'll open your eyes to the whole new world.
very funny guy but hard to learn anything from lectures cuz it's all memorization. this course is kind of pointless cuz the way we were required to cram stuff didn't help much of gaining understadning to biology. a bad course but if u have to do it, take it with randy hampton. at least u learn jokes
If you dread taking this class, take it with Dr. H. He's fun, cool, interesting, and his tests aren't that bad if you study, study, study. There's no way to avoid the overload of memorization but make it more palatable with Hampton.
Fan Freaking Tastic! Biochem's kinda a ****, but he's hilarious (used to be a pro comic...) Tests are fair and not too horrid...study and you'll do fine. Prolly my fav. prof at UCSD so far!
funny as hell! The final is multiple choice,so it's not that bad. A lot of memorizations of structures and enzymes, so avoid cramming a night before.
First bio professor I had, and boy, was he kooky! He jumped on the table once during a midterm and said, "I'm a scorpion!" Anyways, tests were straightforward and I enjoyed his lectures
Randy is insane. He makes lecture really funny though.. honestly, it's like going to a comedy routine; except for the whole metabolism part. Anyway, he at least makes it entertaining, and he's a good professor.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER. He made me love biochem. He's actually interested in teaching, which is rare in the university scene. Metabolic Biochem has been one of my favorite classes to date, and though you still have to make sure you know your info (LOTS of memorizing) his exams are 100% fair. Study, and do well. Enjoy. =)
Really good professor--he seems really interested in helping students and having his students do well. The only thing is that this class is hard with a lot of memorizing. Ouch. But his tests are fair and he allows student imput to make them even more fair.
Hampton is great! I really enjoyed his class, though it was a challenging course. Just study and you should be fine, but don't forget to give yourself plenty of times to study.
Hampton was awesome, kept me laughing. The material was easy to understand, just hard to memorize it all. The class is no prob if you put in the time, otherwise you are screwed. If you have to take BIBC102, take Hampton! PS beware, he pretty much only gives straight As, Bs, Cs etc, barely any +s or -s.
R Hampton is a very entertaining instructor. The content of this class is no doubt a lot of memorization and challenging, but if you have to take it - take it with R Hampton. One midterm and one final, no homework, quizes, or papers due for this class.
He is definitely one of the more likeable bio profs. He teaches w/ power point which you're encouraged to print out. Notes can be hard to take sometimes b/c he talks fast and barely writes stuff down. Some lectures become boring but only b/c of the topic. He tries to keep things alive. I loved his "yawn dance". Tests weren't as hard as expected
i know everyone has already said it, but Randy is my favortie professor! the first lecture was hilarious, and he wrote a rap about enzyme rates! He's very helpful in office hours and he loves to help students in any way he can. tests are straightforward. he tells you EXACTLY what you need to know, so if you study what he tells you too, its easy.
As a lecturer he is okay...but as a person he is awesome. Definitely tries to keep you awake through the boring subject of metabolic. Finished the class with some awesome lectures on aging, cancer, diabetes and exercise. Has practice midterms and finals (final is multiple choice).
awesome person. funny lectures, but they're still kinda boring. just follow his topic papers on what to know and you should ace the class. it's not that hard. lots of memorization but that's typical of any bio class.
The most entertaining class I have ever had in my LIFE. Seriously, I only attended all his lectures because it was better than stand-up comedy. He'll make you laugh till your guts hurt, and is always upto something goofy. Oh yeah, the exams: just like any bio class, cram the heck out of his study lists. He doesnt trick ppl on exams.
Hampton is pretty freaking awesome. His lectures are entertaining and he does a good job of lecturing. Everything is very straight forward. You can't help but to be excited about metabolics after seeing his enthusiasm and how he's willing to make a fool of himself in front of the entire class. Regardless of my grade, I really enjoyed this class.
Great prof. This prof has lots of ppl waiting to be added. I got added the third week, so I was a little behind. The midterm was fair. The final was multiple choice and questions were recycle from previous exam, which are posted on his website. Overall, good class. You can get an A+ if you study. Mostly memorization. Prof is funny & lecture is ok.
Awesome professor, if you study you are sure to get an A.
Randy is the shizzle. Rekindled my love for biochem. Many test questions recycled for final. Midterm was a low average, like 67%, but I got like a 100%, so it's possible to do well, just study ALOT. Great lecturer even though I hate powerpoint, he knew metabolism inside and out. DEFINATELY recommend this man, the bomb bizzle king of metabolic bio.
For BIBC103, I first took Price and dropped the class. Then I took Zhao and dropped the class again. 3rd times the charm wi/Randy! He's my fav prof as UCSD! He actually made the topic interesting w/his random spurts/gestures and his awesome raps songs. So funny! He's like your favorite elementary school teacher reincarnated as a college professor
Who else will dress up for Halloween, turn off the classroom lights, and play scary music? I guarantee you no other professor at UCSD.
This is the best teacher ever. Hands down. As a senior at UCSD this is definitely the one teacher every bio person has got to take. He used to be a comedian and so all of his classes are hilarious. His tests are straight forward, so the curve is really high to get an A.
He is BOSS need i say more!Best professor ever at UCSD! so sad the class is over! This class with anyone else is pure hell and boring! TAKE RANDY IF YOU CAN!! EXAMS ARE SUPER STRAIGHT FORWARD AND NOT TRICKY!
Prof. Hampton made my quarter! This class is really hard and requires lots of memorization, but your life will be lots easier with Hampton.
best best best professor ever!!!! probably the funniest guy i have ever met..super helpful, super engaging.. makes sure to make biochem interesting and lectures were soo enjoyable.. he used to be a standup comedian and musician.. he's the only professor whose lectures i was able to podcast and not fall asleep.. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!! seriously. :)
i strongly recommend Randy. He's funny, approachable and helpful. Even though it's podcasted, go to lecture. It's not video podcasted so it's difficult to follow which slide he's on. There is a lot of stuff to memorize but when studying for the midterm or final, go over previous ones he has posted on his website-he reuses a lot of questions.
One of the best professors at UCSD. The class has a lot of memorize, but not as much as one would think. Dr. Hampton only wants you to know for the tests the surface level of the extremely complex metabio, and not get crowded in the details as some other profs do. Much of what I learned I believe I will actually retain for a long time. Recommended
The best professor I have had at this school. He is very quirky and strange, like your typical awkward scientist but at the same time very friendly and spontaneous. Very funny especially when it comes to exam times when the mood is serious. Basically its 40% midterm 60% final but you can make the final 100% of your grade if it helps you. A = ~84%+
If you're a Bio major at UCSD and have not taken a course with this brilliant man then you are seriously missing out! Lectures were so captivating and straightforward. definitely print out the powerpoint beforehand.
Take this professor for metabolic! Dr. Hampton is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the subject, helpful, and funny! Just stay on top of the material (get the molecules in pathways down >2 days before the exam) and go to office hours if you need help! Don't be fooled: THE SUBJECT IS DIFFICULT, but Dr. Hampton knows how to teach it.
I took Dr. Hampton for 102 last year and now that I'm graduating I wanted to point out that I retained the concepts he taught because he always emphasized the bigger picture. His class helped me so much in my other classes that rely on met. pathways like nutrition and endocrinology. His tricks to remember things really stick too.Don't take anyone els
Dr. Hampton is an amazing prof! Really puts metabolism in the perspective of human physiology, presents relevant information, smart, funny, truly cares about his students. Material is extremely difficult though, and his final this year was significantly more challenging/different than his practice finals from over 8 years. Definitely recommended!
I dreaded taking Metabolics, but with Randy Hampton I was so relieved. He is a great lecturer- very clear, funny. He even bought a prepaid phone so we could text him questions during lecture! It's extremely hard to fail this class because his exams are so straight forward! Go to class and read anything you don't understand. LOVE HIM!
Great professor! The material is difficult and rather tedious but hard work does pay off. He has many exams available from previous years for practice, which I found very helpful. Hampton is also very clear about what he expects and wants from the students. The material is not superbly exciting but his wit and humor is worth your time and effort.
So far, this class has been my favorite because of the professor and the subject! He's hyper and animated when teaching which made the class very enjoyable! He actually took the time to get to know me. He's super straightforward on his exams. Study his study list and you will earn a good grade! No surprises!
Professor Hampton is one cool cat. But he is one terrible lecturer. he is sooo all over the place! his lectures are incredibly hard to follow and in the midst of it all he blasts you with info and you have no idea whats important and whats not try ands study it all D: . If he's your best option take him. but I don't recommend him.
yes he lectures really fast and you do get quite lost but he has an incredible amount of resources (old exams, short questions, texted questions) for you to catch up. its not his responsibility to hold your hand and teach you every last detail. he is only there to guide you in the right direction and that how any class should be.
Professor Hampton was such an entertaining lecturer. Before I attended the first class I was dreading biochemistry but he made it so fun. He gives you so many resources and his papers are particularly helpful on understanding certain topics. Also, he could have made this class so much harder than he did, which I am thankful for!
Randy is totally boss. As straightforward as Metabolic can be, wish he taught more classes.
One of the best professors at UCSD. Material is easy and doable if you take the time to keep up with the lectures and DO ALL THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS. The learning curve for this class is high, but "repetition is the mother of learning." He's very helpful in his office hours. I've learned a great deal from this class. Would highly recommend him!
This man is a genuinely great professor! He tells you exactly what he wants and supplies you with everything you need for the basics. If you want to complain about "scatterbrained" lectures, feel free to take the dull, dry ones (plenty of them at UCSD) and leave the class openings to awesome future metabolites who want to earn an A the fun way!
One funny dude right here! His pace could be a bit hard to keep up with, but that's no problem as long as you keep up with his written study guides and problem sets on the website. The exams are straightforward, but, of course, demand some memorization of the material. Also, you have the option to make the final 100% of your grade.
Professor Hampton makes the class very manageable. For each lecture, he provides a study list and problem set that reflects the main concepts/pathways to know. Exams are straightforward as long as you memorize appropriately. There is extra credit for iClickers and a curve as well. I definitely recommend him.
I dreaded metabolics when I learned it in BILD 1, but Randy explains everything very clearly. Teaches the specific stuff on lecture, but tests on the overall picture. Very humorous and approachable. Very eccentric (in a good way) but very knowledgable. Option to have the final be 100% of your grade if you bombed the midterm.
Professor Hampton is one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes you want to come to class! He is so funny and tells you exactly what you need to know for exams. As long as you do and understand the problem sets you will do fine in the class!
Randy is BOSS! You'll understand what I mean when you take him. Always there to help, very enthusiastic about his material, and tests are very straight forward, NO TRICKS. Even posts study lists, practice problems (w/key) and previous exams (w/key)!! Gives you everything for success, as long as you put in the effort! Thanks Randy!!
This is my first post rating a professor that I absolutely loved! This class is a lot of memorization, but hampton gives you all the resources you need to do well. Tests straight forward. He really wants you to learn, and I retained a lot of what I learned bc of this. You'll find yourself in the vitamin/supplement aisle reading labels
Got A! His exams are super straightforward. There are only TWO key points to succeed in his class - 1. find the excellent TA and 2. do the problem sets. If I could do it, you can do it.... Cheers!
He is my favorite professor at UCSD! He was very clear on what he wanted from you for the exam. I went to lectures, and just did the problem sets. His tests were very straightforward and very similar to the exams he posts on his website!
One midterm and one final. If you fail your midterm on week 5, you have a chance to get an A with a 100% worth final. Tests: No application needed, all you need is storage space in your brain. Like all bibc102, invest lots of time, do all practice tests, no need to attend class--just extra clickers. No electron pushing and plants stuff-chloroplast
This is an unpopular opinion but I did not enjoy his class at all. He himself often distracted from class material, and while his anecdotes on marathon running and the like are fun if pointless, his delivery of relevant, testable material is dry if I'm being generous. To be fair, his tests are straight forward, and not tricky, so that's a plus.
Dr. H is a really nice professor. Even though I don't find the class "easy" like some reviewers made it seem, he's really friendly and generally wants you to learn. The reason why some people say he doesn't teach testable stuff is because you can't learn a pathway during class, it takes time. It helps to watch youtube before going to lecture.
I'm pretty disappointed in his teaching methods. Though Dr. Hampton is hilarious, he is pretty disorganized during lecture. He constantly goes off on tangents and doesn't explain things very well.
Such a nice professor. He's really smart but gets you to appreciate the Biochemistry in action rather than simply reading a text book. His exams this year were pretty difficult but I'm sure he'll curve generously. He even bought the class pizza after the final. Not many professors do that. Randy is the best so take him if you can.
Randy is a nice professor and he genuinely wants students to do well. He is one of the best professors and loves what he teaches. HOW TO DO WELL: -Keep up with lectures. DON'T fall behind. -Print out his study list and use it as a checklist. -Do his problem sets. If you do these three, you WILL get an A. It takes work. Good luck!
Randy is my favorite professor at UCSD. I took him based off of the reviews on RMP and I'm glad I did. Like the other reviews said, he's not easy but he was fair, especially if you did the problem sets. This class is about Glycolysis, Gluconeogenesis, Krebs Cycle, Electron Transport Chain, Urea Cycle, Amino Acid and Lipid catabolism/anabolism.
Dr. Hampton is one of my favorite professors at UCSD! You can tell from his lectures that he's really passionate about the subject and loves to teach. Yes, he does go off topic sometimes but his stories and were entertaining and kept the class interesting. Make sure to study the problem sets and old exams to do well!
Fun fact: Dr. Hampton used to be a comedian. Thus, his lectures are HILARIOUS. Even listening to his podcasts I end up chuckling because he's so funny. I like how he's focused on the big picture rather than minute details on the test. You still need to memorize a ton of material though. Tons of resources and study material on his site. Class curved
PROS: posts a study list, clickers are extra credit, and recycles material from old exams CONS: he gets off topic a lot, his slides are not very helpful, and when he says "recognize" he really means memorize (you need to memorize something to recognize it since most of the molecules look similar) He was okay - straightforward A if you work hard
Dr. Hampton is such a sweet, understanding, and funny professor! His class is great! It is pretty tough (as any biochem class should be), but Dr. Hampton provides you with all of the materials you need to succeed. Take advantage of his study lists, terms, and old exams and you should do well!
Very funny prof! Don't just memorize his past finals/midterms (although 1 or 2 questions repeat), he will throw on new questions. i found myself falling asleep a lot but as long as you keep up with his study list and study guides, your good to go. Clickers were a part of the grade (not EC) but you get credit even if your wrong. Have fun :)
Ok, Randy is an amazing person but is overrated as a prof. First, he's absolutely hilarious! He also podcasts, has many old exams, and puts up slides - which are good. The down side is that he talks VERY FAST, hard to follow, and his slides are really unorganized. His exams are also long, and you must memorize lectures AND old exams.
Hampton is one of the best bio professors that you will ever have at UCSD. I learned so much and became genuinely interested in the subject, all thanks to Hampton. The course does involve a LOT of memorization. I personally feel like his exams (especially the final) were harder than the old exams. Get a TA who took the class with Hampton.
Randy is an amazing professor! His lectures are very enjoyable due to his almost constant jokes (which can get a little distracting). I would say the only issue is that he can go through the material very quickly, so it can be hard to follow in lecture. Make sure to work outside of lecture to stay caught up!
His lectures are not enough to know whats happening in the class. Go to multiple discussions to keep track of the material he wants you to know. His tests are super fair and similar to the practice tests.
You need the read the lecture notes. Memorizing pathways and being able to regurgitate them is necessary as well, but the exams are very very fair. Each question is worth very little so it allows for more mistakes, BUT the exams are also very long. He also has a very generous curve.. I believe it was around 90% for a solid A. NO TEXTBOOK NEEDEDYAY
An amazing and funny professor who's really passionate about what he teaches and how he teaches. May go off on tangents every now and again but mostly in the interest of providing more material context or to make the lecture more interesting. Is more than willing to discuss and explain during Office Hours and is overall a great lecturer.
Had Randy for metabolic too and can say he is arguably the best professor on campus. Very clear grading criteria, provides a study list for exams that he takes questions right out of, and pretty funny during lecture/office hours. If you're lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a class with him, do it!
Randy is hands down the BEST professor I've had at UCSD. He's so passionate about teaching and his lectures always kept me awake because he's so funny. The class, although requiring a lot of memorization, isn't too hard. He has a clear study list and if you know what's on that, you'll ace the exams.14/10 I am taking another class with him next qtr!
Great lecturer, very organized study materials,
Professor Hampton is hands-down the funniest lecturer at UCSD. His lectures are super engaging and he integrates clinical applications into his metabolic lectures. He provides a LOT of practice/study material and is very clear about what you need to know for exams. I would HIGHLY recommend his class.
Took Dr. Hampton's BIBC 102 class (which was great), so I decided to take BIPN 108 with him too. Was not disappointed! Every lecture is engaging and memorable, and covers interesting, applicable material. Even better, exams aren't difficult if you attend lecture and look at his study list. All in all, if you need an elective, take this class!
The tests were very unclear. He ended up changing the answers for many questions each test because they were poorly worded. Just know that you could listening to lectures and study perfectly and still get questions wrong. There were so many questions that he said were wrong even though it was different in his slides. Overall very unprofessional!!!
He's hands down one of the most entertaining professors I've had. Tests are pretty straightforward. The only down-side would be the organization of the slides. There aren't any good transitions between topics, which makes it hard to take notes that flow well.
This class is my favorite class that I've taken at UCSD! The class itself is interesting and not too difficult (not an easy A tho, imo). Randy is hilarious. Overall, a decent lecturer, he can go off on tangents sometimes but it's entertaining. 2 midterms and the final (MC). He does curve. Take him if you can!
He is obviously passionate about the topic and cares about his students. Maybe in a few years will have the class figured out. I do not recommend taking this class as an "easy A." His class is hard to follow and the exams were not a true reflection of the amount I studied or learned. The way that he words the questions is extremely confusing.
Professor Hampton is a very talented lecturer who keeps engaged throughout his lectures. He provides clear slides, study plans and all available prior exams for better preparation for the exams. His questions are at times not straightforward and you really need to have a clear grasp of the concepts to get an A. He allows regrades of his exams.
Really really hard for BIBC 102
I never have written a course review, but Randy Hampton deserves it! His passion and wit exude in his lectures, making them easy to pay attention to. His tests are clear and he explains exactly what is expected of you. Don't get me wrong Metabolic is not an easy course, but take it with him and you enjoy it, and will learn incredible things!
He is a real gem! I didn't have much time to study for his midterm/final but still did well because his midterm was very fair yet his final was very hard (but he curved well). He is FUNNY and his caring/relaxing demeanor made me positive and less stressed. He is one of the most caring profs ever. Podcast and you'll do well.
Incredible professor. Slightly disorganized but always caters to student needs. Loves his job, is passionate and has a great attitude towards life.
Professor Hampton is a a good lecturer, his sense of humor keeps you engaged with the lecture. His only issue is that the test doesnt reflect what he teaches in class. Also, he asks very generic questions with confusing wording and he looks for a very specific answer.
For teaching nutrition the first time, he did a decent job. Midterm was kinda hard side and too long with FRQs, but final is pretty straightforward with MC. Quizcussions are tedious and kinda useless, but fun to engage. His wording could be clearer, the terms list and study guide suffice to do well. Also curves quite generously. Pretty funny too.
Prof. Hampton is great, but I found the way he taught Metabolic to be overwhelming. He would teach so much material, and you had to know all of it, and most of it would require memorizing full mechanisms that could be only partially referenced in his extremely difficult free-response tests where studying required heavy brute memorization.
Prof Hampton is probably the best professor I've had at UCSD. Take him if you want a great lecturer! This class is very overwhelming but there's podcasts! His practice tests are very similar to the real ones. His tests are a lot simpler put than what he goes over in class so as long as you know the basics for all the processes you should be ok.
Prof Hampton I a good professor. I took him for BIBC 102 and don't get me wrong it is not an easy class. The midterm and the final are all short answer and a small bit of T/F. They are not easy, however, he posts study topics you should know every week that will guide you fairly well. I really recommend staying caught up b/c things build up quick!
Hes kind of passive aggressive and it made me pretty uncomfortable. I tried talking to him during OH a few times and I just felt like he was constantly annoyed
He is generally excited to be teaching, however I didn't enjoy his presentation of the material. Metabolic pathways were presented by powerpoint. We would often get an image of the pathway and he would spend merely seconds on the slide, though we were meant to memorize all aspects of the pathway. Most of the material was not covered by the reading
Hes kinda a jerk tbh. VERY unapproachable. Whenever I would ask him questions he would be very passive aggressive and respond with an attitude which made me feel severely uncomfortable asking questions at all. His exam questions are worded very weirdly too which made it confusing at times, hes often pulling trickery in his questions with one word.
I def agree he can get a bit passive aggressive esp when too many students ask questions. But I thought his tests were fair (but hard) and had enough other work (DI sessions & quizzes/review) for class to be less stressful. Best thing about him is his lectures; interesting, incorporates material from outside the class, etc. Curves generously :)
Very surprised by some of the reviews on here. This guy is one of the best upper div bio professors at UCSD. I took him for BIBC 102 and am now taking BIPN 108 with him. If you have the opportunity, TAKE HIM. He makes coming to class actually fun, he's very sporadic which always makes you stay awake.
Whenever I asked a question, he was very condescending and rude about the questions and often would just ignore them to go off on tangents about bookstores/athletes he admired. His teaching style is bad, he only provides graphs and then talks about them while always going off on tangents about non-class info and wasting class time.
Professor Hampton cares about his students well being. The curve is generous. I loved taking BIPN 108 and felt inspired by Professor Hampton. 100% recommend. I honestly don't understand why anyone would give this professor a bad rating.
Engaging lectures, luckily he records them to rewatch - which really helps.
The way the material is presented is absolutely atrocious. He will show a metabolic pathway all zoomed out, comment on a few steps of that pathway, and move on like I'm not sitting here with my piehole gaped. He curves well, but what's the point in taking a tough professor even if he curves well? Tests were pretty difficult as well.
Have never been more furious with a professor. I like him as a person & lecturer, but his slides are horrendous and the final we just took is prob the reason Im gonna have to graduate late I studied for 3 weeks straight and took an obscene amount of notes but apparently thats not enough? Oh and hell make it seem like hes going EASY on us too..
Randy is one of the most engaging lecturers I've had. Read all the assigned material. Take copious notes (that are searchable) as the exams are open note. Include notes on items that are not explicitly stated in the terms list. Be able to write the pathways and know the gist of what is happening in each one. Include pictures of pathways in notes.
Taking this class with such an enthusiastic professor made the material so much more bearable. Hampton definitely did a great job in getting his students engaged in learning biochem, and offered a lot of study resources for exams as well. My only gripes were that his slides were pretty bare and he would sometimes go through concepts too quickly.
I won't lie, Hampton makes you work for your grade and this class is very lecture-heavy. But, he truly does care about his students. My piece of advice if you do choose to take this class is to focus on the little details and enjoy his lectures. He's a funny guy so that's a plus but the exams are pretty tough.
I felt it was impossible to succeed in this class even under the professors recommendation of completing the terms and study list. This did not prepare me for the midterm or final. To study break apart the pathways and categorize whats part of them. His questions are also based on differences and commonalities between pathways. Flash cards.
BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. AMAZING. On every level!!!
He's so funny for one. He makes it seem like his exams are straightforward and there's no trickery, but the wording sometimes confuses the shit out of students, even on the concepts you know. That's the not so cool part.
The class material was super interesting and I put so much time in completing the recommended study lists and taking detailed notes. I never found the material to be too challenging but when it came to the open-note exams I found them impossibly hard and unfair. Hampton words his questions really strange and the length of his exams are exhausting
There is absolutely nothing bad to say about Randy. His lectures are funny, and he is very engaging. Weekly two chance Canvas quizzes, two online midterms and an online final (all open note). Made learning about exercise super interesting and made me excited to come to class. 100/10 loved him!!!!!
Randy is a really fun and energetic professor! He makes learning super enjoyable with his jokes and throwable mic. Quizzes are easy and he provides 20-40/1000 points EC for 85-95% SET rate. The only downside to the class is that it requires intense memorization and little partial credit given on exams.
Great guy, difficult class but biochem will always be. Exams however are very representative of lectures and the readings (he wrote them himself) are very helpful in understanding the material. Offered extra credit as well and very responsive outside of lecture
Professor Hampton makes biochem lectures engaging and enjoyable. Exams are challenging, but his study resources like homemade readings and extra credit opportunities are super helpful. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for my review prep - definitely give it a try!
Randy is great. Very funny and down to earth. Tests are very representative of the lectures (but still rlly hard). He's very accommodating and understanding. We don't use the textbook, but rather he writes his own reading for us and they're pretty funny and very casual.
Randy is very funny and a cool guy. His lectures are very entertaining, but not organized or clear. His tests are brutal and make up most of your grade. You need to know an insane level of detail to decipher his tricky wording, the grading is tough, and the tests are too long. Lectures mandatory with clickers, weekly readings he writes himself.
LOVE LOVE LOVE RANDY!!!!! The tests are hard butttt everything on the tests are on his study list and he will only test you on what is on this list! He has so many resources and is very easily accessible. Yes, lectures are mandatory but you get to miss about 6 and going to lectures help! You have weekly quizzes but they're basically free points.
Randy is a goofy guy, and though his lectures are funny, his slides are disorganized. It's not always easy to tell what we need to learn from class alone, so I strongly recommend going to discussion! I had a great IA luckily. Exams are tough, but the entire instructional team really does try to explain ideas. He truly cares to teach you though.
Love him as a person, amazing personality and funny character. Would not recommend taking his class if you like structure. His slides are disorganized and he constantly drifts off topic during lecture making it hard to focus on the material. Ended up having to mainly learn everything on my own or from TA review videos for difficult exams.
