He is a really smart and helpful teacher. His assignments can be alot of work, but they arent that hard in the end. He offers alot of help and you can always go to his office. The class is good and i suggest taking it with Mr. Handle..

good teacher, just makes you write essays, loves the computer, not very hard, nice guy

He grades on improvement. Gives a lot of extra help if you go see him. He was late giving back papers and I didn't even get my last paper back. Makes you write many essays and 3 papers. First paper was hard and then the next 2 were a lot easier. I got a B+. I had to visit him a lot and worked hard.

I just took his WebCt course. This class requires you to write a lot. I reccomend this class if u r interested in improving your writing skills, if not take someone else. He is helpful and very knowlegable. Great professor.

I took his hybrid class and got an A. It wasn't easy as pie but if you show up for the few classes and at least try all the assignments you will do fine. Great class if you don't want to come to class often and have computer access. Would recomend. Did you see him as Dennis Leary in "Really Leary"? It was great!!

He grades based on improvement. However, this is not difficult if you put the effort forth. The students that generally do not like his class are the students that like to 'slack' and still expect to get a decent grade. He does have a tendency to not return papers back in a timely manner. This is a hard class.You will do lots of writing, and will not really have a clue how you are doing. He does not give grades. But you will become a better writer and he grades on how you imporve during the semester. I learned a lot, but I worked my ass off too. You will write at least three papers a week, this is on top of all the other stuff you.

he has a very knowledgebleteaching style. i loved the idea of intigrating films with literature and comparing the book form of a story to the film form. his class makes you work, but it's not impossible. i learned tons. he is very helpful if you actually take time to talk to him. take his class - just don't be lazy bums like some of you here are

He is a good professor. He does require you to put forth the effort. If you put forth the effort and complete the assignments then this course is easy.

You "get your money's worth" from this class. If you are here to learn, then that is what you get from the class.

He is a very helpful professor and is willing to take any amount of time to help you if needed. If you do all your work and turn it in on time you should have no problem getting an A. Nothing in the class is difficult, the problem most people have is there is a LOT of work. I WOULD recommend taking him if you're willing to put in the time.

Very interesting guy. He has very obscure assignments that may get frustrating, but if you're willing to put in the time then take him. He can be a little unorganized.

Not an easy course but with a little effort you're going to get a good grade. Gets flack for being unfair but the truth is you get the grade you earn he wont GIVE you an "A". I recomend him especially to any art majors because the assignments are obscure and very fun. If you don't understand something he answers emails and has lots of office hours

Randy is by far one of only 3 exceptional profs I have had in my first 2 years His teaching style for this comp class was unbelievable The class was taught majorly in part as a creative writing class though not expressed outright by Randy This technique is innovative and extremely stimulating to the mind He knows how to teach and does exceptionally

He was a bit scary. you didn't know what to expect from his assignments. He was tough, really tough!!! but he sure helps you a lot. I was surprised when i saw i passed the class. lots of peer reviewing, after all I am glad I took him, i learned a lot. If you are a slacker then don't take him please, you will regret it.

Professor Handel is an amazing teacher.You can go to him anytime he is available with questions.You have to apply yourself in his class. You have complete control over your grade his class. In my opinion he gives more than enough time to complete assignments.It is apparent that he has a passion for teaching. He makes you feel like a good writer.

Very tough but fair. He tells you up front you decide your grade based on your level of work. You dont get handed a grade in this class. Yes his instruction is obscure. If you need clear cut instructions this is not the class for you. If you like to think & apply yourself this may be good for you. I passed & really enjoyed myself.

His grading is on a points system other than his essays. If you do the assignments, you know what your grade should be except for the essay grades. I do not see him so much as a procrastinator but a prof that constantly needs to repeat himself due to those who miss his class. geeesh...

Additionally...yes, there is a lot of reading, get over it! We all do it. I work fulltime, take 2 classes a semester, am a wife, a parent, a homeowner, and a grandparent and I manage to get my stuff done. You will not find a busier person than me, yes it is hard, but what did you expect? To be coddled? You're in college now. Again "get over it"

Randy is a very good teacher. If you do not understand the assignment he will explain everything. He is fun but he is not an easy A, you must work for your grade. I got a B in his class and I had to work extremely hard but the gratification from a job well done is the best benefit.!!

Good professor. Didn't use the text book very much and what part he did use was on the internet. Class was pretty easy if you just do all the work and ask him questions when you don't understand.

There is a lot of work (not difficult work, but tedious work) to keep up with, especially if you take the hybrid class. Just do ALL the work and you should be fine.

His film class is enjoyable in a laid back atmosphere awhile learning the material. Online mid term and daily reviews. In class analysis, overall good experience.

He knows a lot about film and he's really interesting. He allowed 5 absences but didn't mind when I missed more. There's a 20 page research paper that's a big part of your grade and a few film reviews leading up to that. I enjoyed the class a lot it was small and pretty laid back, but I do also enjoy writing and watching movies.

He gives great lectures and really wants you to get engaged in the writing process. He encourages you to use his office hours and is very helpful. His reading assignments may seem odd at first, but there is a method to his madness. If you just keep up with your work, you should have no problem... one of my favorite classes.

He's a good professor. You have to turn in things on time. No late assignments. My problem was not being able to turn things in on time due to other demands. Helps a lot and when you need it, just ask. Pretty cool guy. Would recommend him.

Handel is a hard class for ENC1101. You write and revise 6 essays throughout the year that are not even for credit but you have to do it or you fail. He will make you a better writer but you work for it. Alot of people dropped this class. Exam is 2 parts online and in class and is worth 100% of your grade....

Although at first he might come off as a cruel professor, he really is pushing you to reach your potential. He is always helpful and willing to clarify things. Assignments have a tendency to be difficult. He is very engaging and he knows his stuff.

He's really cool as both a person and professor. If you can't write college level essays, perhaps try another professor because he expects quality work. He also has p cool insights on film, however, his nitpicky critiques can be questionable. His class honestly isn't too hard if you just put some effort into it as well as the papers.

Handel is what one should expect college professors to be like. Honestly and personally this class was easy. All i did was read the assigned material and showed up to class. He does expect work, so be prepared to put in effort. However i did the bare minimum and passed with a B+ almost A. Do not take if u are not ready to write and do college work.

He is a little bit all over the place and a little disorganized. But if you can keep up with his lectures and sometimes tangents, you will be fine. The class wasn't hard, but he assigns a 12-15 page paper as his final exam grade. He can be a little tough on grading papers, but is mostly fair if you at least try hard enough.

Can be confusing on what he assigns for the week, and be expected to write a lot. Likes to read your work aloud, but if you turn everything in on time you will get a good grade. For the final you have to make an adaptation of a Macbeth scene and present it or create a film, which is fine but I'm taking English and not film making or acting classes.

If you enjoy writing, reading, and talking about movies, he's the guy for you. Some students complain about his assignments because they go into his class with the expectation that he's supposed to teach them how to write. Sorry, that's your ENC1101 professor's job.

I liked him and think he is most helpful if you talk to him 101. He does things A LOT differently than other teachers. You have to use google drive and submit things on 3 different platforms. He's a little bit disorganized. I have done all my work (and put a lot of work into it) and my grade is still pretty low. He is a harsh grader!

Don't take handel if youre not ready for college level work, plain and simple. His course isnt intended to be easy, it is intended to make you a better writer. that being sad, you'll never turn in a perfect paper. All his assigned readings coincide with the papers you write, so read and show up for discussion. Keep up with the work & youll be good.

Overall I struggled in the beginning, however, he really showed care and compassion for me. I learned a lot. It is tough because you dont truly get your overall grade until the end of the course but he does make an worksheet so you can find out your grade.

Prof Handel is absolutely one of the best instructors I have ever had. Always available for feedback and encourages it. Show you are working hard, participate in online chats, request feedback from him and classmates, there is no way you can fail. I am not a movie person and took class not only for credit but for a challenge and I loved it.

One of the most challenging classes that I've ever taken, but one that I'm glad I took. Professor Handel gives some of the best advice when it comes to writing that I think that the help alone makes his class worth it. However, I know that it doesn't. I recommend only taking this class if you genuinely want to improve as a student and in writing.

I love him as a person, but he is super critical of papers and expects everyone to want to major in this subject and be super involved in it. The beginning of the semester is slow but at the end it's super fast so I was getting burnt out. He loves to coach students on how to make their writing person and is really good about responding to texts.

Prof Handel would honestly be one of my favorite instructors of my college career. He comes off a bit strong In terms of grading but is the kind of professor that knows who cares and who doesnt. If you legit care about his class he will make sure you get the coaching you need to succeed. I NEVER thought Id get an A in his class. Would take again

Prof Handel's class seemed intimidating because he uses Teams instead Canvas, but if you're willing to self-explore it gets easier to navigate. Professor Handel was approachable during class, after class or on Teams whenever I needed. He wants students to succeed; so attend class, be open-minded and be proactive. Overall a great Professor!

Professor Handel is a great choice for anyone who is willing to work to improve the quality of their writing. He offers grading conferences where he gives good feedback on your assignments to know exactly why you got the grade you did, and how you can improve it. If you just want to get your English req. over with, you might want to look elsewhere.

Professor Handel clearly cares about the class and wants you to improve. There is a good amount of homework but it is manageable. The course is definitely writing intensive and there are a lot of essays and long readings. It is absolutely an advanced English class. Definitely make sure you are present for class or your grade will drop fast.

Professor Handel is a pretty cool guy. I'll be the first to tell you, though, that his ENC1101 class is pretty intense, and he is pretty harsh when he grades you. You will NEVER turn in a perfect paper. Outside of that, if you apply yourself and (attempt) to follow his lectures, you'll pass.

The course was slightly disorganized, but it allowed for leniency when it came to deadlines. Professor Handel is a bit of a tough grader on the first essays, but as long as you can listen to his feedback you should be able to get a good grade on the final paper. Very passionate about what he teaches!

His class is easy if you just do your homework and show up to class. There is usually homework after every class, but you have a lot of time to complete it and it is never hard. All of the homework helps you in the essays you write for the class, which makes the process of writing the essays simple. I am happily attending his class next semester.

This was his first year switching away from a writing intensive course. If you enjoy film and the many different elements of film, then you will like this teacher. He truly cares for film and has you watch a new movie every week. Not a hard class at all and you get to work on group projects and a short film at the end of the semester, which was fun
