I've never had a professor that cared this much about what he was teaching. He has and bears one of the most powerful testimonies I have ever heard, and his class is an extension of his testimony. I learned more about the gospel in this class than I have in any religion class I have taken so far.

Brother Bott is an awesome guy with a lot of eunthusiasm for missionary work. I disagreed with some of the things he said, especially the comments on science, evolution, etc. but I was still able to learn much. Most importantly, the class prepares you well for the mission.

He is the most amazing teacher, even if you are a girl like me and not planning on serving a mission i still highly suggest taking this class just because it is also a marriage prep class...even if you are not planning on getting married way soon...the most enjoyable class i have ever had a BYU

Extremely informative with gospel topics and presents them in a way that will always grab your attention. The only work in the class is reading the scriptures and writting 2 papers each 2 pages long.

this guy is super easy, but you still learn a lot and get a lot out of the class. granted, you could learn nothing and never read and get an A is you want. tests are take home, enough said

I think every student that comes to BYU should take a religion class from him. He is by far one of the best professors at BYU. His classes fill up extremely fast though! It is a very easy class and you learn a ton! Best combination.

Randy Bott is my favorite teacher of all time!!! I recommend him highly to anyone looking to have a wonderful experience learning about LDS religion at BYU. His view on grades is like achieving the highest level of the celestial kingdom -- anyone can get there if they put in the work. Shouldn't all classes be that way?

This is the most amazing class! Everyone should take it and everyone should take it from Bott!!!! His lectures are very interesting and fun even if you aren't planning on serving a mission. The tests are take home and open note and book so just do the easy work and you WILL get an A. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

he is a great lecturer. the students in this class really learn how to apply basic gospel principals into their lives. You don't really learn all that much new, but you definitely add to what you already have in your mind and heart.

EASY EASY TEACHER! go to class and take notes..his tests are based on what he writes on the board and read his books. His tests are take home and very easy. Grades are on an honor basis. If you have any question, you can email him and he responds back immediately! Class is hilarious and interesting, ask your WILDEST questions and get them answered!

Bott is an extremely knowledgeable man, but I feel like his class wasn't very effective in me actually learning the actual things I would teach as a missionary. Its more of how to be a missionary. So, it just depends on what you're looking for. His books are word for word identical to his lectures.

Brother Bott is absolutely, positively, THEE best Religion teacher at BYU. I've had him for 2 classes, and the man has changed my life. He's had such an impact on me, both before my mission and after. I'm indebted to him for his selfless service. Take his class, you'll never regret it.

Having taken all of his classes, the Brother Bott I know made perfect sense, never made an offensive comment, and I would gladly bring someone not of our faith to his class. To the person who wrote that last comment: it's called sarcasm and most LDS appreciate showing those not of our faith that we are capable of it, although you may not be.

Brother Bott is awesome! He can go from funny and sarcastic to making the spirit so strong and the room so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Don't believe me? Try his class and see if you don't feel the spirit.

THIS IS A MUST TAKE CLASS/PROFESSOR FOR ALL BYU STUDENTS!! He can answer ANY gospel question you have. Not only works with pre-ms but also rms and girls. This class changed my life and if you pay attention it will also change yours. He is easy but I learned more in this class than I have ever in any other class

Brother Bott is a WONDERFUL teacher! He invites the spirit into each class. He's like Brigham Young--he won't sugarcoat things. He tells it like it is, which can offend people. If you're not 100% committed to the gospel, don't bother taking this class--he'll tell you things you don't want to hear. If you love the gospel, you will learn a LOT!

took him for mission prep, was a phenominal teacher. He knows the scriptures and almost all the other church puplications back to front cover to cover and can quote them on demand. Its amazing to see. He does a Q and A at the start of class and you witness it everytime. You grade the midterm yourself. Do everything and you'll have an A

A super easy phenominal teacher. The tests are all open book take home, they are easy as long as you go to class. The tests are on onlywhat you learn in class. He appears to know all the scriptures by heart. You grade your own midterm. If you don't get an A you didn't go to class or do the assignments which are all easy. Very fun class.

Ok, so I liked him, but really, the class wasn't everything everyone says. His class will only teach you things if you haven't paid attention in S.S... ever. He does make some interesting points, but lots of the class is an anectdotal(sp?), funnier version of the standard Sunday School lessons. But he does know a lot and backs up what he says.

He is SO great. Love him.

I highly recommend taking Misison Prep from Bro Bott before any other professor. He is amazing and his doctrinal knowlege is amazing. It's fairly easy, you can miss a lecture (but why would you, they are so good) and be alright. The tests are take home (even the final) and the papers are easy. I strongly recommend taking from Bro Bott.

I don't understand how you can't love Brother Bott. He knows the scriptures and teachings of the prophets extemely well and can quote them to answer questions and back up his points. The Spirit is there every lesson if you are open to it. He always makes himself available to answer any questions you have and loves teaching.

Excellent! I didn't even enroll in some of his classes, but I attended every one I could! Exams are called "celebration" and are open book, open note, take home, with some memorization for one part. I'd retake any of his classes given the opportunity, so I'd definitely recommend it. Wish there were more like him!

Professor Bott is very dedicated to his students- His goal is to make sure you understand the principle so you can govern yourself and help others. Tests are stress free and most assignments are based on the honor code. A couple papers... The BEST class i will ever take. Highly recommended.

You should not go through BYU without taking from him. He is my favorite teacher. He makes class humorous, interesting, and most importantly spiritual. I don't know if the people who didn't like his class were on crack or simply don't like any professor at all, but Randy Bott is the most insightful and intelligent man when it comes to his religion. If you are a Non-LDS like me and just want to be done with the 14 hectic credits this is one of those classes you dont want to miss. You will totally get an A without stressing. Super easy class! I know we are not going on a mission but its better than taking new tastement or whatever.

My favorite thing about Bro. Bott is how EVERYTHING he says is backed up by scripture or quotes - he has references for every single thing he says. Therefore you know you're not getting Doctrine According to Bott, but real, true principles taught in the scriptures and by the prophets. Loved it! His D&C class is also amazing!

Brother Bott is one of the best teachers I've ever come across. There's a few bad ratings on him, but keep in mind that Religion 221 doesn't exist at BYU and that he doesn't teach religion 101. Brother bott is the Best teacher at BYU. His class was amazing and was life changing. The Tests are easy and are open book. If you go to class you will not only earn an A, but will learn many lessons not only about going on a mission but about life!!!!!!

This guy is amazing. Ask any question you want and he'll answer it using scriptures and books. I loved going to this class. It was packed every day. Not a surprise that Brother Bott is the highest rated professor. I love this man!

No wonder Brother Bott is the highest rated professor. He teaches by the spirit and he uses the scriptures to answer any question that a student has. He's not afraid to tell you how things really are. His class isn't hard at all and he is so easy to follow and to understand.

Brother Bott really does run a fantastic class. He somehow manages to add a personal twist to a class of hundreds of students. Willing to answer questions. A fabulous storyteller. Quick to answer emails, and, indeed, I must say I've enjoyed reading his books.

Honestly, it is a class that you cannot afford not to take. He has a special way of teaching that helps you get the most out of the material and the most out of yourself. He is the Best, period.

Even though he teaches thousands of students every semester he is still willing to help each student individually he spends alot of his time answering emails from students and you can tell that he really cares. I absolutely LOVED this class! It is by far the best class I have ever taken! It taught me so much, not only about preparing for a mission, but also preparing for life. He is such an inspiring and knowledgeable teacher.

TAKE MISSION PREP FROM SOMEBODY ELSE if you actually want to be prepared for your mission. He's fun, he's interesting to listen too, he's got cool stories but he doesn't really prepare you for your mission. Sorry to break rank and say Bott isn't the best, but really he's not. Try someone else.

He will do a great job prepariing you for a mission, and life in general. Very enjoyable teaching style, and if you come worthy and willing to learn by the spirit you will learn at an incredible rate.

More of a Life-Prep course than a Mission-Prep course, but everything you learn can apply to both. BEST CLASS EVER! Take good notes, because you'll want to remember what he says. Better yet, bring a tape recorder.

U don't split up into companionships like a lot of mish prep classes,but it is still amazing.Brother Bott loves the Gospel, and he instills a love of the Gospel in his students. He helped prepare me for a mission by helping me gain an even stronger testimony, which is the foundation of all things. FANTASTIC.

Brother Bott is the best teacher i had this semester! All his tests are open-book, open-note, even the final! You write 2 papers, attend a fireside, give a discussion, and read a thin textbook over the course of the semester. I would definitely recommend his class to anyone, not just prospective missionaries!

Bro. Bott is AMAZING! You will love this class! He has wonderful insights into our generation! He is more than willing to answer any questions you have by email or in person, he has 1300 students per semester but if you need help he will focus just on you! You learn a ton, it is extremely entertaining, and you will probably get an A. Perfect!

Knows the D&C very well. What he teaches is accurate and is careful to back everything up. Tests are take-home except for memorizing section titles, but do require some time/effort. I really enjoyed taking this class and would reccommend it to anyone.

Hand down the GREATEST teacher I've had at BYU. He addresses real problems and isn't afraid to say anything. I never wanted to miss a class and was always on the edge of my seat. Take this class from him and talk to him one-on-one if you get the chance.

My only problem with him was that his stories were always so interesting that I would be too engaged and forget to take notes. I'd look through my notes while taking a test and notice a lot left out. But i guess its not a bad thing to be too interesting

You'd have to be a terrible student to not get an A. I learned a lot in the class for sure. He knows his scriptures well, especially the D&C. Funny stories, and kind of a funny old guy. The only bad thing is he can be a bit irreverent about some things (you'll know what I mean). Don't forget to value learning by the Spirit above Bro Bott.

Awesome professor. He acts like a "know-it-all" most of the time, but the thing is... he really does know it all. Just get over the presumptuousness, listen, and you will feel the spirit. If you are struggling on the Celebrations, read his book "Preparation Precedes Power," A lot of his lectures are based on this book.

Brother Bott is the best teacher I've ever had. I had to fight to get into his class but it was totally worth it. He helped me prepare for my mission more than I could've hoped. You'll learn a ton and enjoy it too.

Some of the doctrine he teaches as indisputable fact is not even close to being universally agreed upon by past and present leaders of the Church (which to me was a bit unsettling), but overall he is a great teacher. He's at his best when giving practical mission advice and when telling stories from his own personal experience.

Most students will tell you that Professor Bott is fantastic. He is usually clear when he is talking about his ow opinion and Church doctrine. No question, this class helped prepare me for a mission, and helped me develop my testimony even more. You realize how important you are as an individual person and member of the Church. Amazing teacher!

I think he is a good professor, and one of the better religion teachers at BYU, but it's all about what you put in and what you expect to get. If you come with the right mindset, you will learn what you need to.

Bro. Bott is an excellent teacher. Everything is backed up with scripture or quotes from prophets and he spends several hours a day answering students' questions or concerns because he truly wants to help every student.

I LOVED Bro. Bott's class. He gives such interesting insight. We spent most of the year discussing gospel basics. If you think you have the basics of the gospel down take Bro. Bott, and you will learn so much more! Great lecturer! It was my earliest class, but it was the one that was easiest to stay awake in.

Great teacher. Sure Bott is flawed like everyone else in the world, but that's what makes his class so interesting, even with the flaws the spirit was often palpable. He isnt interested in teaching a course, he is interested in teaching individuals to get up and do something. I didn't always agree with what he said, but in most cases I learned.

If you're taking Mission Prep, take Bott. His class is interesting and informative. Getting an A is not difficult. We spent a great deal of class time discussing doctrine, but also the practical side of being a missionary. Great class.

Mission prep was amazing with Brother Bott. He can always bring the spirit and he is such an interesting person. The class was probably my favorite of the semester. There aren't that many assignments and they are all pretty doable. The take home "Celebrations" take away the stress of test taking.

Bro. Bott is funny, moving, powerful, entertaining, and one of the best all-around teachers I've ever had. He makes the class more about religion and less about tests and homework, which makes it an easy A but still a powerful, life changing experience. Full marks to Randy Bott. One thing I liked about Brother Bott is that he tried to answer your questions. Maybe his answers were a bunch of baloney, but he didn't treat them like they were irrelevant.

He's gone now, but I enjoyed his class, it helped me get on a mission and I met my wife in his class. sure he said some incorrect things but his heart was in the right place.

Loved Brother Bott. The Mission Prep class itself was interesting and we learned some cool things but honestly it didn't prepare me for my mission at all (Book of Mormon class was better for that). Brother Bott's a great guy and great professor though.

Its been ten years since i graduated, but i often think about the religious understanding i gained from Brother Randy Bott. I often find myself relating to his lessons, or explaning them to others. That's saying alot, ten years later. He was by far the most influential and inspiring teacher of all my university studies. Thank you Brother Bott!

Brother Bott has quite the personality. If you come to class and take good notes you should do fine. I wasn't always sure how applicable to a mission what he taught was, but for the most part content was useful. He likes to tell stories about himself and advertised various things throughout, but if you get past that it wasn't a bad class.
