He is hilarious!!! Fun teacher to have.

Funny guy, fun class. He is super intelligent. Hard tests though, they are much deeper than what he teaches. Definitely follow the syllabus and you should do alright. Good luck!

He is great! Test's are somewhat hard but very fair...if you study you will do fine. During class he will keep you laughing from the moment you walk in the class...makes it much easier to stay involved with his lectures and actually enjoy his class.

Not an easy teacher but the best I've ever had. Knows his stuff and is very interesting. All of his tests come from your notes. For the research paper you should start early and ask his advice. Gives alot of essay questions but all from notes.

I took this teacher my freshman year of college in 1996! I STILL remember his class! He was entertaining and made the material very relatable. Just go to class and you'll pass with an A. Everything comes straight from the lecture. Don't buy the book.

Dr. Finley is by far the most memorable professor I've ever had. I loved every minute of his class, and wish that he would he would consider teaching a different class so I could take him again. He's the type of person that I would like to hang out with.

I'm taking his class now. We are doing two 3 page papers in lieu of a reasearch paper. I think he's funny. You DO have to read the books, because part of our test grades are from material he hasn't gone over. If you make an effort, you should do well. He will help you have any questions.

Professor Finley is a rare find--a teacher who loves what he does and is not afraid to show. HE is quite honest and open with his opinions and welcomes the same in class as well as in your essays. His style has allowed me to find a love for history I did not know I could ever have!

I took his class in 1998-9. I found him to be a great and interesting professor. The class was never boring and he was always to wake the class up with a little joke or two. You can tell he knows what he is talking about and if you do not miss a class you will be able to get an well deserve A.

Excellent Professor. He teaches history on a deeper level which makes it much more interesting than just memorizing dates and events. The honors course involves a good amount of reading, but you learn a lot of interesting things about our history and besides, its an honors course what do you expect? TAKE FINLEY!!

Great professor. Gives tons of reading, but taken during one month semester, so what do you expect. Talks fast with a southern accent. Tells you everything that will be on test. Gives easy papers. Exams are pretty easy. Overall a very interesting professor and very helpful. But you will need to work for your A. Just pay attentin.

Very interesting class. It is so rare to find a professor that has a passion for what they are teaching. If you have a short attention span then take this class because this is a professor that helps you stay interested. Take the notes and listen in class and the tests will be a breeze.

Dr Finley has a plethora of knowlegde in all areas & loves to share it. His tests are essay that allows your opinion about the facts-not bad. If you study his notes and do the reading assignments you should have no problem getting an A. Great teacher & I'm greatful for the privlegded experience!!!

Finley has no patience for people who obviously don't even bother to open the book. He knows who does and who doesn't. I've never heard him say anything of such like about Yale except in comparisions which he manages to relate to history. He makes it come to life and I saw history in a way that made it more realistic.

Just read everything he assigns. If you can recall even most of it and answer a question or two in class, you'll get an A. Quizzes are taken in the middle of films, answers are super obvious. Essays on tests are great, he doesn't care your opinion if you state your position well. I wish there were more like him.

Take This Class!!! He brought history to life. I had his class eary in the morning and I still managed to pay attention. You can tell he's really enthusiastic about history, he acually breaks into a sweat when he teaches and goes into great detail. Only minus, essays on the exam.

Great teacher, really knows his stuff and can make history very interesting. I left the class eager to learn more. Each test including final exam includes essay's (2-3 out of 5-10 topics he gives you), thats the only downside. But you can still do well if you read and take down his notes that he gives in class.

An enourmous amount of information is conveyed in a short period of time. If history is your thing, you should take this class, but if you want to just pass don't because u'll have to read ba lot aand remember every little detail plus there are a lot of quizzes,however there are no dates to memorize

he makes history more interesting. he is very funny. you can't never feel boring his class. he is also very helpful. i came to his office thousand times this semester with my stupid questions. but he answers everything patiently. he read my thoreau paper 3 times i think, and i got an A. the 1st draft is horrible and he said i'll get D.

He is very good at explaining difficult things and making them easy to understand.

This class is VERY demanding. If you enjoy reading and have time to read 10-30 pages during the week then this is the class for you. However, if you're on a limited time schedule, I don't suggest taking his class

He has an amazing personality. Definately adds character to the class. Is very funny. Essay test are a little difficult, but he is fair. It may seem like you are doing poorly in the class at first, but it isnt as it seems. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. He wants his students to do well. Also, he is very easy to talk to.

Dr. Finley is a great professor gives a lot of reading. He used four books for his class be sure to read the Ayers Book most test come from this book. Be sure to take notes. He gives extra credit assignment please complete these extra credit assignment they will help your grade. He is an exciting teacher and he loves history. Three projects.

I LOVED HIS CLASS!!! He is such a great teacher! Also, he tests upon what he lectures on in class. He provides handouts for all the document readings which helps come test time. His tests are all essay, but if you take notes you will do fine. He actually looks for people to express their opinions on the tests which was nice for a change.

Great Teacher with a sense of humor. You will learn so much with this teacher and he makes it fun. Attend class everyday, take good notes, read the assignments. He gives many quizzes, and his mulitple choice questions are tricky, the essays are a breeze. Hand in your assignment on time, and DO NOT BE LATE FOR CLASS a major no-no.

Get ready to bury your head in the book with reading. Lots and Lots of reading. Nice guy, but he can be a bit sarcastic. He has no time for slackers. If you're not a fast reader, think twice.

he's a pretty funny guy, but don't eat in his class, he threw a girl out for that, it was kind of amusing actually. it was a very easy class though, and his attendence policy isn't too harsh. he flips the lights on and off a lot, so sleeping doesn't really work out too well

Great class! He has excelent sence of humor and he is very hilarious! Very entretained and dynamic class. Lots of reading but he will help you. He gives opportunity to have extra pionts with easy assignments to improve your grade. Get ready to enjoy serious humor!

BEST TEACHER EVER!! he is very funny, knows his stuff... GOES REALLY FAST. So you have to know how take good notes... his quizzes come mostly from the reading (Ayers book) and then the "problems" book is done in class, but still in the quizzes. IF you pay attention to his lectures the essams are a peace of cake and he is VERY HELPFUL!!!!

He is VERY smart and knows his history top to bottom. He moves EXTREMELY FAST so if you have trouble moving quickly don't take him. However, he gives a very in depth account of the material which is nice. He is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!! Great sense of humor:) Tough grader... so don't think you can slide by.

mr. finley is a great teacher. i got a B, but i had to work very hard for it, so there's no skimming by in his class. he gives a ton of opportunities for extra credit towards the end and as long as he sees you're working hard he'll help. he is also hysterical. the funniest teacher i've ever had, which is saying a lot.

I took the online class. He does give a lot of work, but he is very fair, very helpful and clearly loves what he does.

Finley is funny and he goes to great lengths to describe what it is that he is talking about. I am having a very difficult time with the class simply because it is an accelerated course, so he goes extremely fast. The quizzes are really easy if you read the material. The tests...not so much..he's big on lists!

THE BEST HISTORY PROFFESOR

I liked him for the most part. Yes, there was a lot of work, but his class made me learn a lot as well. The one thing I hated was the novel he made us read. It was the most vulgar thing I have ever read in my life. Overall though, he was a good teacher.

EASY professor. Whoever wrote that he was difficult obviously does not have a brain. He practically GIVES you the test beforehand. All you have to do is study the material.

I thought he was a great teacher! Not a real easy grader, but if you read the assignments and review your notes before the tests, you should do well. Obviously passionate about the subject, which is contagious and I liked the class even though I was originally not looking forward to taking history. Would DEFINITELY take his class again!

I was not looking forward to taking History before this class but Dr. Finley made it so much fun. I learned so much in this class...he actually made learning History fun. I will say that I worked more in this class than any other. Do not expect an easy A. Plan on working hard and you will succeed. I got an A in this class but busted butt for it.

Took online. Very organized and fair, wish all my online teachers were like him. Read one chapter a week and discussion question, quiz after you read 3 chapters, midterm and final are essays and gives you plenty of time to get them done. He loves history, would love to take a class with him. Quick to answer emails/gives great feedback.

Best teacher I have ever had! Made history fun and his tests consisted of four essay questions and you only have to answer two. Does not take attendance after first two weeks of class. Quizzes are a little hard but overall I would highly recommend him.

My favorite history teacher. Loves what he talks about and is passionate about it. Knows his subject matter very well and is able to keep your attention. Make sure that you follow what he says, do your assignments thoroughly and come to class on-time. (Don't leave early either--he doesn't appreciate it and will let you know it, on the spot!)

If you don't care for history and are looking for an easy A do not take this class. Finley requires you to research, read and comprehend everything covers. He is passionate about history and his lectures show this much. Make sure you research well--he knows instantly if you haven't and doesn't like slackers. Take him if you get the chance!

What an incredible teacher! Makes you work for you grade but I came away from this class knowing so much about history. Did my work/reading and got an A while the girl next to me didn't and failed. You get what you put in. Essay tests and a few quizzes. Read a historical novel which you have a test on.

What can i say? his class has wayyy too much reading. He uses 2 books instead of one n a course pack to answer a lot of questions. 2 Essays test and like 7 quizzes. Take him if u like reading alot. But he is cool and fun guy.

He is one of my favorites. He is increadibly funny. He requires alot of reding and writing, but he is really helpful and lets you know exactly what he expects. There is no game playing in his class. He justs expects you to do the work. His tests are essay and are pretty easy if you keep up with the reading. Overall I really enjoyed his class.

The class is very entertaining. He makes it interesting and funny. He plays many many movies and clips... and there are many quizes. There are 2 tests and a final. The tests you have to study for! Mr. Finley is darling. He teaches with video clips, powerpoint notes, and a non-stop, breakneck pace of jokes and facts that will keep the worst history-phobe entertained. He requires daily homework, but throws in enough raunchy or unusual tidbits into his lectures to make the information memorable. Not all that scholarly, and an easy grader.

Such a passionate teacher with a wonderful since of humor! He had us constantly laughing with stories he would tell- yet they all related to our lecture notes. Great professor, but he is REALLY hard. If you are going to take his class, don't plan on registering for many other courses because you will need to dedicate a LOT of time to it if you want to have a "decent" grade. He goes into DETAIL, i.e. What kind of relationship had some president's mother with his wife? Give me a break...

This old man is top notch funny. He is a comedian I tell you. His lectures are extreamly clear, and I personally have learned and understood everything he meant. History was very boring for me, but when i took his class, it was nothing but interest,laughter, and of course studying.

Funny guy, but work load was too much for an elective class at a two-year college. Enjoyed the class and the professor, but if you cannot devote time to a semi-hard workload, take someone else. I would if I had to do it over again.

Most of us dislike History and most History teachers are boring. Not Mr. Finley! He makes the class fun and interesting. He makes you laugh every 2 seconds. He gives relevant examples and just makes the subject "cool." One of the best teachers I've ever had!

By far the BEST teacher Ive ever had. He has high expectations but is always there to help out. My biggest piece of advice is to have him look over everything a day or two before they are due and you will get an A. The only kids who had a hard time were those who talked during class and waited last min. to do things. He is also hilarious!

Loved this class. Just happened to have my cousin in this class who is 4 years older than me, and Mr. Finley would give him crap for that all the time. Enjoyed every minute. HILARIOUS. Never before had a teacher whose teaching style is actually funny. He is interesting. Come to class, its TOTALLY worth it. there are 3 quiz grades and i believe 3 tests. one test was take home. if you come to class you will pass, if you dont you arent missing just notes but a good time

Test are hard-always ESSAY Your test study guide will list 12 topics (ex. time and space/slavery) to study,out of those 12, 5 will be on the test as a question (Time & space are the two key variables in understanding colonial American slavery), out of those 5 you have to write about 2 of them(2 essays 5 paragraphs)using 3 historical facts in 75mins

DON'T TAKE HIM IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO. Wait until the next semester to get diff teacher. TIPS-read,read textbook BEFORE class,go 2 class on time-you don't want to miss his notes, read ALL documents & answer questions BEFORE class,know how to read a map, let him read your 10 page reasearch paper BEFORE it is due,he will help you get an "A" on it.

For every test you write 2 essays. You write essays for everything even for those 25 bonus points that he will give you at the end of the semester. You have to know how to write in pass tense active voice. If forget to separate your paragraphs when you write you get an AUTOMATIC "F". This is college people as Finley would say!

Yes, Dr. Finley is funny but let's get real here people. His workload is hard. His tests alone will make you want to quit his class. On top of that your grades are based off if he "likes you." If he likes you he will give you extra points up to the next letter grade but if he don't like you then you are screwed.

He is a great teacher and fun to listen to, but his assignments are hard as****. Dont take this class if you don't have alot of time to work/study for his****. I lost 2 letter grades simply for not identing my research paper. Grades like a vulture. Dont recommend unless you're a history major

I would recommend taking Dr. Finley's class only if you really like history. I took the Honors section of this class, so it might be a little differnt for the regular section, but he is a bit of a tough grader and the course load is on the heavy side. He is extremely knowledgeable and his class was very entertaining. I got an A, but I worked hard.

Dr. Finley is an incredible teacher. Not only is he very well educated in the subjects taught, he is funny and entertaining. If you pay attention in class, take thorough notes, and study hard, you will easily make an A in this class. I recommend him to anyone who has trouble with history like me!

Great teacher & great class. You have 3 tests, 4 quizzes, and the final. You have to do certain documents for HW, but that's pretty much it. I suggest you sit in front row and take notes. He presents teething on power point. All the info presented is the quiz and test. If you make an effort, he takes it into account when giving you your final grade

What a great professor. I came into the class actually kind of hating History, and have come to really enjoy his classes. People complaining about him being hard obviously weren't going to class and taking notes. Just go to class, take notes and do the moderate amount of work he assigns. If you somewhat engage and pay attention, i'ts an easy A or B

Mr. Finley is funny, engaging and self deprecating. He loves history and gets excited about the subject matter so he is easy to listen to. He really wants his students to do well and gives lots of opportunities for points. ATTEND CLASS, take notes and you will make A's on tests. So happy I took this one in class and not online!

Great profesor. Engages and challenges you to not just regurgitate historical factoids. Uses multimedia materials to make the history come alive. Attendance is mandatory and so is taking the notes in class. Participation is a most, He will call on you daily so don't expect to be overlooked. He is humorous, and accessible, he is worth every class.

I do not like history, and Mr. Finley may be the only professor who makes U.S. history extremely interesting. He's funny, does different things to keep your attention & always gives opportunity for bonus points. Need to do assignments for bonus pts & quizzes. I recorded the lectures on my phone & wrote power point notes, which helped a lot.

Finley was my favorite teacher last semester so I signed up for another class with him this semester. Hes the man. You need to do your homework for participation and be attentive during class, and he'll have no problem with ya

I took 3 different courses with him and all three classes were my absolute favorite part of college. I learned more about history than ever expected and would tale another course with him just for fun! His lectures are very interesting both philosophical as well as factual. If you listen to the instructions on what he expects you will make an A.

You barely notice the time passing by. He really knows how to get the big picture across and his sense of humor is unforgettable. He understands students a lot better than most professors and his tests & quizzes reflect that. I DO NOT mean that he is a push-over. He is the best history teacher I've ever had and I would totally take his class again.

Loved taking this class with Finley and I hate history! I usually barely pass! Very funny! Time passes pretty quickly and he's a pretty fair professor. Willing to help you every time! Take advantage of extra credit! NEED TO GO TO CLASS TO PASS. tests are based strictly off lectures. never used textbook. wish i could take him again!

He's funny. The workload is tough. I was always behind. He grades you if you are able to answer the questions in class if called on and attendance is a must. He requires a lot of text books for this class and he even makes you ready a thick book at the end of the semester during finals week. He just needs to lighten his load a little bit. Hes good

Professor Finley made History so entertaining. He always made the class laugh during his notes and lectures. Just be sure to write down ALL of the notes. Highlight repeat concepts. Always complete the homework in Microsoft Word so you can quickly reference it for timed online assignments. Google works too :). Be prepared to write essay exams!

Just show up to class and take notes. He talks really fast so write really fast. As long as you do the reading assignments outside of class you will pass the quizzes and tests. Always does essays at the end of his test so be prepared. But he's hilarious and definitely knows how to teach the material. Oh and you watch a lot of videos!

Dr. Finley is wild. He knows so many stories about people in history. He gives good lectures. He gives three essay tests (2 full essays in 1hr20min), 7 rough online quizzes, and a 300page book, Babbitt. There is SO MUCH textbook reading. I got A and 5 on AP exam in AP World and AP Gov, and this class was harder than those.

He is hilarious. He gives lectures like telling stories but you have to take notes all throughout class. So, paying attention and write down what he says is important. If you study those notes, you will do great on the essay exams.

Get ready to write, read, and study a LOT. He's one of the smartest professors I've ever met. Attendance is required and so is answering questions throughout his class. Write everything he says as your notes will be the foundation of the 3 essay exams you'll take. He is a lot of fun, and makes the class duration fly by. Good luck!

This was one of my favorite classes that I have taken and I normally hate history. He gives amazing lectures that are very interesting, and he brings in outside material such as films and articles. Make sure you take very good notes in lecture as that is your ticket to doing well on the essay tests and in class questions. Do the reading too!

Prof. Finley is by far one of the greatest professors I've ever had. I actually have picked him for 3 classes now, he makes history enjoyable. I've also never been so encouraged by a prof. as he has encourgaed me. He really cares if you take the time to talk to him. Amazing lectures, you have to come to class (attendance counts)! Only essay exams!

He gives points in so many areas that it would take an effort to fail his class. Others are always complaining that his tests are hard, but the tests come directly from his lectures, and he gives all the possible essay prompts. I literally studied his lectures word for word and regurgitated it onto the paper. It can't get much easier than that.

Great teacher, I wish I took him during the fall or spring semester because this class should not be rushed. Online quizes are very simple, and the essays which are the mid term and final are pretty easy. Show up to class, take notes and you will get a good grade. This is from someone who was averageda 70 on quizes and was late a lot still passed
