Excellent teacher;motivates students to learn. Not an easy class, but should be okay as long as students keep up with reading the text and reviewing his lecture notes.Strongly recommended.
Best instructor I've ever met.
Great teacher! He cares about his students and is a charismatic in his lectures. Tests come straight from the notes so don't miss class--he gives hints as to what might be on the test. My favorite techer to date.
instructor is really interested in what student have to say he's a great motivator and roll model. He's awesome and charming.Hist 12 is the best class. He plays music at the beginning of every lecture fits well with the time in history. went2UCSC,Harvard
Mr. Generea is by far the most excellent teacher i've had, he is so organized, interesting, and motivating. I love the structure of his class; the music before lecture. He is so friendly and helpful. Oh yes and he is VERY SEXY! w/ his ponytail he looks like Mel Gibson in "The Patriot".
very good!
Mr. Genera is a wonderful teacher, and his classes are enjoyable. He is interested in the subject matter, and he truly wants you to learn. In my opinion, Hist 12 is more interesting than Hist 11, because it's more recent and relevant.
Mr.Genera is an awesome teacher. I like every component of his class: music before class, powerpoint presentation, exams and assignments. I don't think students can meet any better professor of US history other than Mr.Genera. He is that good. Take a class with him. He is literally the "best."
Genera is a great teacher
Besides being handsome, he is a awesome teacher. I loved his class! I even tutor for History 11 before I transfered. The class was great I enjoyed it! He has a passion for teaching, and he tells it like he see's it! GREAT!
I think his class is really interesting. He teaches well, and tries his hardest to keep u interested. Quite funny sometimes
Despite me hating the idea of history, he way of teaching is what makes him and his class an enjoyable, yet learning experience!!
Mr.Genera is an excellent instructor. He makes history as fun as possible for people who may not be interested by the subject. It's nice listening to the music he plays before class and the occasional movie clips are also interesting. I highly recommend Genera as your next history.12 or History.11 instructor.

I looooove Mr. Genera! He is one of my favorite professors ever! He is a very intelligent man with an awesome memory- he probably knows every student's name! I'm going to miss him when I leave;( Take him!!!
Great Teacher. I really enjoyed his class.
Difficult, but caring. I learned more from him than any other professor. He taught me to think outside the box.
Genera can make even colonial america interesting. Tests are moderatly easy if you go over the notes before the test. He puts all the material on blackboard. Theres a paper due but it is easy and hes very easy going when it comes to grading them. He knows his history and presents it in an easy to understand way. Cant ask for anything better.
Mr. Genera is a really fun teacher. He's kind of goofy sometimes but it grows on you. Just make sure you go to class, pay attention, take good notes, and get your paper in on time and you should have no problem in his class. Oh, and he's serious about the cell phone thing ;)
Mr Genera is awesome. realy intelligent and knowledgable. And a cool person. he'll remind you of the Heath Ledger's joker.. lol no joke. just pay attention during class.
Very nice.
He's amazing. Very interesting and was meant to teach. Best history teacher at Reedley!
Awesome class, realistic and u get wat u put in, so work hard for it!
Great teacher! One of the best @ Reedley
Mr Genera is great. You will learn a lot and he makes it interesting. It's obvious that he puts time into his lectures, he works hard for his students. Don't expect an easy A, you will need to attend the lectures and review the notes before tests, but he provides you with all the resources you need to ace the class- including filmed lectures onl
Hes a good teacher & if you make note cards for his class following lecture notes, you'll pass pretty well but study 2. Only complaint is he often snapped and yelled at students whom he thought were talking, embarrassing them, when they were not the guilty ones. He also is real creepy when it comes 2 checking out girls and he'll reach 4 their arms
Excellent teacher!! He is probably the best I have ever had at Reedley or anywhere for that matter. He is very helpful and makes this classes very entertaining. Be careful of his cell phone policy. Turn OFF your phones and leave them alone when in his class!!
Genera is a really neat teacher. But he does have a tendency to move around, talk to himself, and just be weird. He is though a teacher who cares about History and is the best history teacher at Reedley College. If you do all extra credit, notes, flash cards, worksheets, and read the book, you will pass with flying colors.
Easy, lots of work but you got to put into it and not be lazy.
Genera is a great teacher with out a doubt the best history teacher I have ever had. He is very good at keeping you posted on grades and letting you know when work is due. You do have to work in this class but its not so much that it is overwhelming or anything if you pay attention and go to class it is really easy but definatly a top teacher.
Great teacher. This class is easy to follow and anyone can complete it with a good grade as long as you take good notes, read the text book, and do the homework sheets. The final is NOT cumulative. :)
Mr. Genera is an excellent Teacher!! The subject History is not as exciting, but he make History interesting. Biggest advise is attend class, read your textbook and take notes especially when there is a asterisk. Integrity Integrity Integrity!! Key if you are struggling in the class.
Great teacher.
I took Genera for History 11 and 12. One of the best teachers I've ever had! Very dynamic and energetic, fun to listen to!ALL TEST QUESTIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE NOTES HE GIVES U AND ANNOTATED SO YOU KNOW WHAT THE TEST QUESTIONS ARE!As long as you attend class to get the notes it's easy. Lets you take a notecard with answers on it to every test.
Be cautious that if you are taking this class online and live anywhere else other than Reedley, Genera will not work with you on attending his MANDATORY class meetings for this ONLINE class. They are in the middle of the day in the middle of the week so if you have a job be prepared to take off or call in sick. Unreasonable and misleading.
Genera is AWESOME. I enjoy this class a lot.I never once said "aww i have history:/"I don't even like history that much and like his class.I think it solely has to do with the way he teaches. He is a good teacher. There is one research paper-he grades that fairly, study for tests and you'll get a decent grade. He knows his stuff too, went to Harvard.
This class is so easy to pass. He's a great lecturer and everything you need to know for the test is very clear. He also lets you use a notecard for the test. You only have to go to class for the tests which is only 5 times all together. He also let us take one of the tests online. Bottom line: to learn a lot and pass the course take his class.
He makes history interesting. If you miss a class, no worries, he post video lectures that he records LIVE in his class. He gives you the answers to the test.
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD...EVER! I took his hybrid online class through Reedley College and let me say, attendance (for the handfull of class sessions) is MANDATORY! Do not try to get out of it. His lectures tell you what will be on the test but if you don't study, you will not do well. His class is not an easy A but it's not hard either.
Its just straight lecture. Not a difficult class. Also he makes a seating chart on like the second week of school.
This class was great. I was 8 months pregnant when I took it and he was very understanding of my situation and even let me take the final early so I was done with the class a month before school was over. Although I took the class online which I recommend taking it online because you can view the lectures whenever you want.
Mr. Genera is AWESOME! I couldn't have asked for a better professor! History is typically a pretty boring subject for most people but he makes it very interesting with his power point lectures and videos. For every era we learned about he would play music relative to that period in time. Just show up to class, read the chapters, STUDY!!!
Unless this class is ALL you have going on in your life, AVOID.
Online lectures were very interesting and enlightening. I enjoyed them. Study hard for the tests with your notes, as the exams are not easy, even though the rest of the class is. He does allow a small notecard with notes during the exam though.
Assignments took longer than the rest of my courses combined. Must watch all lectures from in-person classes he recorded then must do study guides then homework where NO ?s are based off study guides, so you must also read each chapter word for word. Test ?s not from study guides. One notecard on a test can't hold hundreds of pages of info
he is very sarcastic and funny. his tests are a little confusing but you will be fine is you study. love the music he played everyday
He IS sarcastic, but is NOT funny. If you study really hard for his tests you MIGHT be "fine" if fine is barely passing. And the only extra credit is 5 points-BIG DEAL-that like half of one single percentage point for an entire semester! Really! Half a percentage point. The weighted total is out of 700 points.
Tough class, lots of work, not worth it. Should have taken it with someone else.
Have to essentially memorize multiple chapters word for word for tests. Take with someone else.
Lectures were boring, and he tends to go off topic and get political and insult all views different from his own, which becomes very tedious to have to sit through. I wouldn't say he's terrible, but he's definitely not very good.
A great History class and teacher! Yes, there is a lot of work. However, the lectures are informative and detailed. There are also plenty of opportunities for extra credit. If you apply yourself and take advantage of his advise, you will pass.I highly recommend the tutoring sessions also. They are a huge help! I was very happy with this course.
Mr. Genera is very condescending and will make you feel bad for living in the Central valley. Mr Genera will not let you give him feedback during the lectures and try to baby sit you on Blackboard as if you were a child. Last, his study guides are not related to the test. The term paper shows 3 articles and his sample outline only shows 2 articles.
DO NOT take this class. extremely boring and the tests are hard. He blabs about nothing
His classroom is very well controlled. He knows his stuff, This class is not easy whatsoever. I consider myself a decently smart kid and I am having trouble in this class. Tests are VERY hard, the questions on his test are COMPLEX. They are very confusing. He acts like this class is a University Class. He needs to calm his tests down.
Genera's lectures were engaging, as he is truly passionate about what he teaches. He sends constant reminders of what is due and comments on your homework and term paper assignments so you can improve your writing skills.
Not an easy class, but worth it and will feel so good when you finish and stick it out through the term. He makes history very interesting and the lectures actually went by quick because of it. Go to BTC, it will help a ton, and study. You will learn a lot of essential information about the U.S that will not just help out in school, but also life.
Awesome to listen to, lots of chapter readings which are important for the tests, homework is collected at end of semester but keep up with it to do well on tests.
Mr. Genera was an amazing professor. I loved going to his lectures. Made it so interesting when he played music before class. His grading scale is very easy to understand. I recommend anyone to take him.
Genera was a great instructor. First off, he is the kind of teacher who tells you what to expect on the tests; he records his lectures in order for you to go over them on your own if you need to. He DOES NOT procrastinate in grading papersexams and is on top of things. Highly recommended; show up, read, and study the lecture notes and you'll pass!
Class was interesting and he gives you things to study before the test, do them and you will pass!
The tests were not as easy as I expected them to be.
Genera is really interesting to listen to and the class isn't difficult. However, if you think that you can only rely on listening to lectures to pass exams, you are very wrong. If you read the textbook and take notes, you'll pass the class with flying colors.
How to pass the class 1. Don't skip class- Pay attention, mostly all test questions are in RED ASTERISKS 2. Print- Fill in the blank notes & study guides 3. Do all homework- Will help prepare you for the test 4. Go to BTC- Sometimes Genera goes a little bit too fast, BTC is a great alternative than re-watching his lectures & you get EC.
If you are going to transfer to another college, this class will prepare and challenge you for the future. The lectures are detail orientated and fascinating, even if one is not about that history life. This class covers a broad spectrum of issues in history that will give you insight towards the present. Also, appreciate Genera's dry humor. Do it
Love this guy. His lectures are like documentaries. Watch the lectures to pass. He gives you fill in the blank outlines and tells you what you need to know for tests. Lots of extra credit opportunity as well.
Take his class only if you want to fail. Online class was meant for busy people, its supposed to be flexible and convenient. I had more assignments than all my classes combined. He designed his online class as if it were a traditional classroom. Be ready to watch recorded lectures each are 45 mins to an hour long. There are NO PowerPoints.
Lectures are long and boring. MUST take many notes and keep up with reading in the book because his lectures don't go off of it. Tests are very difficult. Studying daily is a must if you want to pass the tests.
Love Genera's teaching style and his big presence. Failed the class. Tests were tough but I'm not wild about tests in any matter. If I were to retake the class I would make sure it's with Genera.
Genera is horrible! His test are so long and confusing. Class never ends early and he speeds through the lectures because there is a lot of material to cover.
He is a great teacher. Lectures are a little long but he covers all the material and give you study guides for the tests. If you do the homework you will pass the tests.
If you hate history you will fail if you let it get to your head. His lectures are interesting but they don't help too much on tests. Go out of your way to seek help from tutors if needed. extra credit but does little affect to your grade. Also lectures are online if I were to take it again I would take it online, same thing. DO EXTRA GOOD ON PAPER
I am almost done with my degree and realized I had a general education class that I still needed so I decided to take this one online. I am a good student, have great grades and haven't ever flunked a class. This is without a doubt the worst online class I have ever taken. The tests are ridiculous they are based on his opinion not facts.
I took this class online, and you must expect a lot of reading and work. If you print the lecture outlines and take notes, you don't really need to study hard for the tests. He's very helpful and I would only recommend this class if you have the time (It's very time consuming!).
Best online class I've ever taken. He provides recorded lectures and regularly updates the class via email and Blackboard on due dates, etc. Most online classes are mindless but his was very engaging. He offers plenty of extra credit. His tests will be hard if you don't do the homework. Almost all his tests are based on the homework assignments.
The tests are pretty tough. In this class, if you don't read you won't pass. People don't like doing all the work, so they end up earning C's, D's, or F's. If you want the A, you must do all the homework, read, and attend tutoring sessions if you're not understanding the material. He's a funny teacher, I would take Hist12 again if I could!
This class is a lot of work. If you take it online you still have to watch hours and hours of video lectures. His tests are kind of hard. The paper was absolutely the most dull assignment I've ever done. Regardless of these facts he's a great teacher. Bumps you up if you're on the cusp of the next grade. Glad I took him.
AWESOME lectures! He's very enthusiastic about teaching, shows he loves his job. Tests were pretty tough/extensive, I believe. Take all lecture notes, read chapters in textbook thoroughly, and stay up to date on announcements! His grading system is awesome, gives extra credit. He is very prompt with e-mails and truly cares if you do well or not.
Expect to read and take notes on his lectures. I had his online class, and his lectures were VERY long. Tests are not easy, and just a tip, if you see an asterisk, it will be on the test so you want to write it down! One long essay, that he gives you the information for. Otherwise it is a decent class, but not an easy A at all.
Genera was a pretty easy A. Im pretty good at history but I have never been 5 points from perfect. I skimmed through the book to answer questions and went to every supplemental instruction because I like easy points.
Horrible experience. The worst professor / teacher I've had in all my years of schooling. He talks about irrelevant things and puts way too many pictures and videos in his lectures. then doesn't have time to finish so he races through the lectures because he has the test the next day. 80% of the class has a D or F . Do not take this class!!!!
Hands down one of my favorite teachers I've ever had in college so far . I've taken his class before . I failed first time around because of attendence he covers a lot . But second time around went every time . Everything u need on test is on the notes . test are the only hard things he's a fare grader IMO . Would recommend to everyone .
I took his online class thinking I was going to have a lot of time. There's a lot of homework & quizzes every week, his exams are timed & consist of about 65-75 questions and are tricky. He expects you to know the stuff! His lectures are so interesting, reason why he is so passionate about history. You need the book or else fail!
This is my second time in his class. I'm thrilled that I got to experience his teaching twice. He is clearly masterful. I hope many get the opportunity to take his class. His lectures are outstanding! He gives outlines for note taking. One Midterm, 5-page paper that is not too tedious and he gives you the research.
I took his online class and it was a lot of work but he gives you all the tools you need to succeed in his class. Do yourself a favor and take notes based on his online lectures, everything is provided to you for his quizzes and tests through the lectures. he is very helpful and provides extra credit great teacher
Generas online class was laid out clearly and expects work put in. His class in structured with exams every 2-3 weeks (usually 3 chapters), while also working on a detailed Q&A assignment based on the reading of chapters, and viewing lectures. Hes extremely credible, gives credit for hard work. Miss a test and youll struggle for your grade.
The lectures are very interesting and a lot of the information is very necessary. Lectures are always posted on Canvas in case you miss a class. He does offer extra credit throughout the semester. I received a lower grade because I missed classes and didn't study, so if you put in the effort, you'd be able to pass easily.
Prof Genera is very passionate about what he teaches. Hes very consistent with his lectures and work he assigns. He prepares you for tests, and it is easy to do well if you apply yourself!
Genera is over all a great teacher. Lectures feel like forever, too many pictures and wording on the slides. Sign in sheet goes around to sign in. Posts lecture slides online, offers extra credit, very organized. Just pay lots of attention, show up to class, review notes, and STUDY FOR TESTS because they're difficult and long!
This instructor is truly dedicated to his students. He sets clear expectations, works with students to help them succeed, has very entertaining lectures that are not boring to sit through, and tests are easy as long as you do the work and follow his guidance. I would definitely recommend this instructor, especially for online courses.
If you want to do A LOT of homework for very little points then this class is for you.
He's clearly passionate about history which I appreciate but the questions on his tests can be confusing, particularly because they are multiple choice with multiple answers that could be correct answers. Also, you don't get to see what you missed to even be able to argue for credit in those instances. In a test-heavy class, that's disappointing.
Genera is a great professor, especially for online. There is a lot of homework, mainly viewing lectures, but I learned a lot! One term paper early in semester. 4/5 chapter tests, some extra credit. Totally worth taking!
My favorite professor ever. Genius, amazing and very genuine.
This guy is awesome, I wish I needed another history class, I would take it with him for sure. I took the online class. he posts his lectures on canvas so you can watch along. he gives over half of the test questions in his lectures. lots of extra credit opportunities. take this class, you wont regret it.
I took this class online. Almost all of the homework was taken from the videos of the lectures. He directly gives out answers to questions on homework and exams, so pay attention and youll pass.
Best teacher I have ever had! Inspired me to be a history teacher
I do like this class but I just wish it wasn't so heavily based on tests! I turn in all my work on time and get full credit but his tests are so difficult for me that I can't seem to pass them with over a 60% which is causing me to have a low grade :/
History courses usually put me to sleep, but Mr. Genera's engaging lectures were very interesting and, dare I say, enjoyable. I never even bought the textbook because all the information needed was in his lectures. TONS of extra credit opportunities. The lectures cover everything in the quizzes and exams. I highly recommend Mr. Genera.
Took Randy for online history 11 and he was the best professor ever! He truly loves what he does and it shows through his lectures. Easy to understand, lecture videos are well read and he gives great analogies to todays society. Definitely recommend!! You do have to read some info from the book, if you do the work which isnt a lot. Youll pass
Genera really seems to know his stuff. He corresponds with the students a lot (too much), but it's nice to know that he cares. His lectures are always interesting. Dude, just do the Q&As, fill out the note-taking outlines, and the tests should come pretty easy. I also met with a group every week to take the tests. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
I took his online History 12 class. He gives out a lot of extra credit so do not miss that opportunity! Homework given out was pretty lengthy, very easy and he gives you enough time to work on it. Awesome teacher I recommend him!
Genera is an amazing professor. He is lecture and test heavy! but also sets friendly reminders, clear study guides, and tons of feedback on your work. I would definitely recommend his class
I have straight A's on my transcript but I am currently holding a C in his class. He is very test heavy with grading. I do all the work and extra credit and have full credit on assignments but only getting Ds and Cs on test because they are so hard and I feel do not follow study guide as much as they should. Grading needs to be less on Tests.
I took Professor Genera's online History 11 class. I was surprised at how much I learned from his online lectures. He brings energy and makes the class very interesting. I've never met him face to face but he is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. I would recommend him to anyone.
The amount of homework assigned was ridiculous there would be about 60 questions on the workbook lectures to just gain 20 points and sometimes get 1 or 2 extra credit points. The lectures were long and divided into 3 parts; Topic A, B, C. The exams were also very hard they were timed and some of the questions I felt were not even covered.
I definitely enjoyed this class! Professor Genera brought the lectures to life and made them interesting. Yes, the homework had a lot of questions but we had plenty of time to finish it and they were very helpful for the exams. There was 1 essay due and he gave us extra credit just for submitting it early which really helped.
I hate history and never so well in it. When I took this course, the instructor made it interesting and enjoyed every lecture. Tests are graded heavy and he does have a study guide that goes with all the lectures he has. He also gives some extra credit and feedback. Very easy to get a hold of via email. I really enjoyed his class.
Good professor! Great lecture, even if your not into history his class is interesting and his lectures always have your attention. Work is consistent but easy to do. Test are long but not bad. He give study guides before exams that really help!
Good, easy class as long as you keep up with your lectures. 5 exams with a "workbook" (study guide) due before each exam. Answers come straight out of the lectures. Free textbook.
