He thinks he's mean, but he's not. He's also funny and nice. Very fair and helpful.

he is a hardass but an excellent teacher, I have never learned so much from a single teacher that I have ever took! He is very clear, i highly reccomend him if you are unsure of your english skills. and hes funny as hell

I hate English. I hate it, but i got a B and i've never passed an English class ever. He does a great job at teaching as long as you do the work. I highly recomend him. Very good teacher.

Mr. Gifford got the task of taking over a class in the middle of the semester. A hard task which he managed to carry out perfectly! I had never thought that learning english would be this interesting. He has a good sense of humour.

He took over the class half way during the semester and promised to not hurt our grades.. I ended up getting a C but oh well.. he has a funny personality. Hes a hard grader because he is a teacher at UCLA but he is very helpful

Needs to get a haircut, and a sense of style, but I'm learning more in this class than most.

He was cool, but hard. If you really want to learn how to write, and have a teacher that will help you, take this class. Ask him about Air Jesus'.

Professor Gifford will give you help when you need it - he's happy to stay after class to answer questions and clarify assignments. Gifford is funny with a dry sense of humor. Likes to do really bad impressions of young, hip, people, but it's O.K. because he does realize he's not one of them. Wants you to get a good grade.

This guy really cares about the topic. He always got my paper back quickly and covered the damn thing with comments. Now that's not very fun, but neither is college comp. I still like the online class even though it was frustrating at times. He'd ding me on my coherence in this message.

Awesome teacher! A+!! I learned a lot from this class. He will challenge you, but if you show him that your up for the challenge he will help you to do well in the class. It is a lot of work, but it's a 4 unit class so that should be expected. If you stay on top of the assignments you should do just fine. Highly recommended.

Great teacher! Don't listen to the bad comments below. Those must have been from people who can barely read and write. Even the students with poor writing skills did well. It definitely is a lot of work but he is helpful and clear on what he wants. I never liked writing and still don't much but the class was fun.

This guy really cares about his class. He goes out of his way to get through to everyone in the class. I think the people who have the problems are the ones who can't take the work. My papers were all marked up. Maybe I'm not as smart as some of the people who said he didn't give feedback. I doubt it.

Took him a long time ago. I thought his rating would be higher. He's actually pretty good, but he does like the subject a bit too much.

He was a great online teacher, helpful and informative. I enjoyed reading the book he asigned us and learned alot. I don't like writing essays and although essays are tough and long I passed his class with ease and he was always willing to answer or review my work.

He was a fantastic online professor. He was clear, the book used was simple and straightforward, and he got back to every email I sent within the day. It was awesome!!! I really didn't think that his class was very hard, though I took it during summer so because it was compacted it made it seem harder. If you do the work, you'll pass the class!

Very helpful and informative. Expected me to do the work and held me to those expetations. I am a better writer now.

After reading the reviews of Mr. Gifford, I was worried, especially because I hadn't taken a college English class before. Now that I've finished the course, I can say that it was extremely hard. He expects a lot from his students, but it was an amazing learning experience and he was very helpful. If you're willing to learn, it's a great class.

Prof. G is so awesome took two different class sections with him and would take my last class if possible.

Proff. Gifford is an awesome teacher, but if you are looking for an Easy A without any participating, find someone else. He does give a lot of work but the assignments are easy and they prepare you for the 4 essays assigned in the semester. He even allows extra credit on each essay and he gives very lengthy feedback. He wants you to do well.

The textbook "The Bridge" he requests the class purchase is helpful, but certainly not mandatory. I wouldn't waste the money. Don't expect to get full credit on essays or assignments worth more than 5 points. for example, i was given a 9.6 out of 10 on one essay, I found that to be a bit ridiculous. Not a class for lazy people, put in the work.

Tough class but you will get a good grade if you put the time and effort. He is available for a lot of questions and makes himself easily accesible. Do not take if your looking for an easy class. I thought he was a good teacher, after reading previous reviews I was nervous but happy I took this online class.

I'm not too sure why everybody says he is hard, all you need to do is actually put in the work and you'll get an A. He really wants all of his students to do well and will give good feed back to ensure you know how to make your next paper better than the last.

I took Professor Gifford's online class and it was one of the easiest college classes I have taken. He assigns a Journal and another assignment that is due every week and that's it. Never has any tests except a timed essay and the final at the end of the semester. Does give low points for the amount of work but is super easy to get an A.

I took him for ENGL MO1A online course and although he was kind of confusing at times with what he wanted, the class was easy as long as you followed everything he wanted in the essay. His a fair grader so don't complain if you don't do well on an essay, you probably deserved it.

I really enjoyed Professor Gifford's online class. Although his instructions were a bit confusing at times, he always responded in a timely manner if you were confused about anything. You have to put in work to receive full credit, it's not an easy A by all means. But you learn a lot from him.

This class is tough but it is rewarding. There is a lot of work. The assignments are not just busy work but are meaningful and have purpose. Waiting until the last minute to do them is not advised. Also the feed back on each assignment was well detailed and helped a lot. He is also available by Zoom, phone and email and makes time for students.

I loved this class! I was so challenged and felt so rewarded with everything that I did. Sure at times his instructions were a bit confusing but he was always there to help when needed. Also, he gives great feedback and really cares about his students writing and success.

He is a tough but you actually learn a lot. He 100% prepared me for M01B. I never had a problem with reaching out or meeting with him and he always responding quickly. I also felt that he gave good feedback to help you do well on the final papers. If you are looking to take the class for transfer credit only and this is not the class to take.

He grades fast and I always know where I stand. If you need help - he responds to texts, emails, calls, and will zoom with you -more than most of the other professors I've taken. I learned a lot. There is a little reading but grading is clear and it's not that hard.

He's clear and easy but you still learn. I totally recommend.

IDK if all the bad reviews were for someone else or maybe their old and he's gotten easier over time because the class I took was easy, I did all the assignments in one week and he was pretty forgiving on the grading.

Easiest class I've taken yet, just do the work on time and you'll get an A, take the bad reviews with a grain of salt some real dull people take this class

JUST TAKE THE CLASS all these little whiners almost deterred me but I couldn't rearrange my schedule and I'm so thankful because this was the easiest class ever turning in assignments on time with the right amount of words guarantees you pass and is you are at all coherent you should get an A
