Lectures are same as book (he wrote it) so can be tricky if you're confused
Good teacher, explain fairly well. Can feel confindent about grades.

Harris has a strong command of Physics...my god man HE WROTE THE DAMN 9D text book. He knows how to teach as well, which is rare for such a vague course as theoretical physics.
He wrote the book! Difficult topics, but most interesting course out of the entire 9 series. Lab really sucked, hopefully they edited the lab manual by now.
He teaches very well and he curves even better. He's great for hard classes.
Great teacher, very helpful.
Harris, you the man!
Of all the physics professors I've heard of, harris is the best.
Class is laid out very well. The quizes are easy if you do the homework. Test topics not bad. Lectures very clear and relavant.
man, this guy knew everything on the subject...interesting class too...
Dr. Harris is probably one of the best physics teachers at UCD. His tests are fair and if you do the hw, you should do fine on the quizzes. He curves pretty leniently, and knows a lot about the topics he covers. I would highly recommend him.
hard to fail his class with his giant curves. he's really enthusiastic about the material, trust me.

Good teacher, knows his ****
good professor
Knows exactly what he's talking about. Engaging and informative. Energetic guy. Quizzes pretty much come from the homework. Tests difficult, you'll get rewarded for grasping concepts. Very nice curve.
Randy Harris, I love you.
harris is a really fair teacher. he looks for improvement, so if you bomb the 1st midterm, he will weigh the 2 midterms differently..... he knows what he's talking about and he goes out of his way to help you out. (but only if you ask)
Good teacher. He explains things well. Very nice curve. Would definately recommend.
GREAT teacher ... would highly recommend ... material is very hard but interesting ... harris wrote the book also ... do your HW&discussion ques. and u will do fine on the midterm/final
Excellent teacher. Very leniant curve: average is a B-. Explains things well. Tests are challenging but do-able if you study.
The best physics 9 teacher. Teaches well. Exams can be difficult, but the curve helps. I recommend him. (He wrote the 9D book)
Final was killer, but the guy is very helpful and nice. Overall good teacher but hard tests...
I don't like any teacher that writes their own, unintelligible book of 200 pages and then forces you to buy it for $100. Garbage!
Very clear. Great examples with thorough explanations.
Professor Harris is no doubt one of the greatest teacher I ever had in my life.
Absolutely the best physics professor you'll ever have. Very clear, very sensitive to difficulties understanding the material, very helpful, very fair exams, really nice guy.
This guy is too conceptual, physics 9 series are supposed to emphasize on mathematical approach toward Physics problem solving, but he expect you to analyze problems with concepts instead. I think he needs to get fired just for being too conceptual. I don't think he is a helpful professor either.
In order to pass this class, you better read every page of the physics book and understand them. By the way, you don't really need a calculator for his class, since most of the test questions were based on concepts. If you are a math type of person, Harris will make u painful.
Awesome teacher. Final was like WTF? but he curves quite nicely.
best phy prof i ever had. take his class if u have chancd.
I found Randy kinda difficult, but I suppose he curves generously. He also goes through topics kinda fast like as if we're just reviewing the material and not learning it for the first time. But I guess overall he was a good professor who was willing to help ya out when u needed it.
Wonderful guy.
Harris is an excellent teacher, I would recommend him to anyone who has to take physics. He's pretty funny (not that he makes jokes, his mannerisms are just hilarious). His tests are very fair and the curve is pretty sweet. He has poofy hair :P
GREAT TEACHER! Teaches well, class is interesting, very helpful in his office hours, cool experiments, and nice curves on tests. Best teacher I have ever had at UCD. The only part that people would not like about him is that his test are hard, but he curves very nicely. TAKE THIS GUY IF YOU CAN
Good prof. Explain concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Very helpful during office hours. His tests are representable to what he lectures
Clear leacturing and very organized. Make sure to do the HW. Quizzes and tests are generally based on HW.
Great Professor! Came into this class really worried about 9D, esp. the quantum stuff. Great lecturer, gets the important points across. Quizzes come from problems straight out of HW, ie DO the HW!. Tests are a little bit harder, but everything is curved
best physics teacher in the department. makes cole seem bad. very well organized, responsive to questions. clarifies everything for you. final was a little hard but w/e. get this teacher! i had very little interest going into this class, but it was one of the chillest i've taken.
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT UCD!! THE STYLE OF HIS TEACHING IS VERY INTEResTING and easy to follow!! MAKES PHYSICS MORE FUN THAT IT ACTUALLY IS!! SIXDOLLA!!!
This is the Prof. to take 9D from! He wrote the book and quantum is definitely his specialty. Very clear, with fair tests and he usually gives you the integrals (if they are especially hairy so you don't have to do integration by parts 6 or 7 times on one question!) His tests are fair, but read the book! It will be your friend and ally.
Even if it screws up your schedule take Phys 9D from this guy.You won't regret it. Best lecturer around. I wasn't even enrolled in the class and I went every day. (incidentally, he looks like the actor Kyle MacLachlan)
Lectures were pretty good with demos. The class was as fun as a physics class could be. I would reccomend him.
Great professor! He makes this somewhat complicated topic interesting and accessible. Sometimes the material is confusing, but you will do fine if you put in a decent effort (class is curved).
Professor Harris is extremely helpful and gives you lots of opportunities to succeed beautifully in his class. The lectures are very interesting, and the midterms and final are based very directly on the homework, which isn't even collected. Greatly recommended!
Randy is the man. Randy is the man and he knows it. He's extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Very funny too. One of the best teachers I've ever had. Showed up to our final with a black eye which was a bit weird. "Bike accident" he says but we all know he was being a man in some way or another. Take this man's class if you can.
Just look him up in science even though he is a PHYSICS teacher. AMAZING professor (he looks like John Caffrey) Learned a lot relatively easy if you like physics or have had some background in it. Encourages class participation need a clicker.
Randy Harris is AWESOME! (he looks like John Caffrey) One of my favorite professors at UCD Class is relatively straightforward. I used the textbook a lot to do the assigned homework and reading assignments. Quizzes are easy if you do the homework and understand it Clicker is required lectures are engaging and interesting I love going to lecture
GREAT professor to have for physics. He has demonstrations almost every class to reinforce the concepts. Exams are challenging, though, so don't slack on studying, and take notes on the examples he does in lecture.
He is great if you have already had a strong background in Physics. For learning the concepts of Classical Physics for the first time, he was too conceptual. Come to office hours prepared, he has little patience.
Great Professor. Grade was online homework, 2 midterms and a final. There were also voluntary "reading quizes" where if you did good on most of them, you'd get a grade boost at the end. Tests were pretty hard but the curve is AWESOME each time. Very helpful during office hours as well. Definitely recommended!
Professor Harris is one of the better professors I've had. His lectures are very straightforward and help you understand the concepts, but don't really help you that much with the hw or midterms. I highly recommend doing the examples in the book and really knowing how to do the hw problems for tests. Very nice guy, he let me take a mditerm late!

Harris is a good lecturer as he encourages discussion. He tries to help you understand the concepts. The homework and exams were very difficult. But his curves were amazing! I failed all of his exams, but I ended up with a B. If you can understand the homework problems, you should be fine for the exams as they are closely related.
He really tries to help you understand concepts of physics. HW is 20% of your grade so do well on your homework. 2 midterms and final are not easy, but curve is very good. Go over examples from your lecture note and textbook. Will help you succeed in this class.
Manageable course provided you are studious. Material is fairly simple but understanding concepts is essential as all lectures revolve around the conceptual. 3-5 hrs online HW/week. Mandatory discussion. 3% course credit through Clicker use. Midterms based on selected HW and discussion ?s. Final surprisingly difficult. Curved class.
Very good professor. Really cares about students. Midterms and final difficult, but has a very generous curve. Recommend him as a professor.
Not a bad professor; very good lecturer. Mostly covers concepts in class though, moves through a lot of demos. The online hw is much harder than what he goes over, so that usually takes several hours of hard work. The Midterms are okay, given you took the time to review he online homework. If not, you can still usually reason stuff out.
Harris knows how to make you think in terms of physics. If you understand the subject well enough through his extensive and detailed lectures and reading, you'll do well on his tests. He has a decent curve. He often uses demonstration to help you visualize what he's talking about. So if you're a visual learner like me, this is the right class!
AMAZING!!! never had phy in high school, I got an A-. It is possible! Do all the hw! GO TO OFFICE HOURS he is SO helpful.
Excellent professor. Knowledgeable. Lectures do not help too much w/ exams, but teach the fundamental/theoretical ideas. MasteringPhys HW is rather easy & will boost grade. Exams are curved heavily and easy. Expect an A- to A+ with ~2hr studying per week.
Professor Harris is, quite frankly, the best Physics professor on campus. His tests are a little hard, but if you practice using the textbook, you'll do fine. Homework is a little challenging as well, but it can be done. Take his class if you can!
The only reason this stuff is hard is because modern physics itself can seem counter intuitive. He is the only reason I got the grade I did in this class, I understood that stuff up and down. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS and ASK QUESTIONS. It is truly worth your time. Hope I get to see him in another class again :)
Good teacher, clicker questions in class for participation. Mastering Physics hw is hard, but a gradeboost if you do well. Tests and final not too hard with ok curve. Had to get each test regraded because of grading errors and he was stingy about regrades. Very helpful but sometimes snide .
I heard so much about Randy Harris but now that I've left his class I can say he's one of the greatest professors on campus. He is a very smart and clever guys and he is always happy to answer any question. Highly recommend him but he does give hard tests. Nonetheless he teaches you so well that if you studied you'll be fine.
Engaging, witty, and a crystal clear teacher. Homework (MasteringPhysics) was a bear, I wish I'd gone to OH. Exams were challenging and require solid study time. Actually enjoyed going to lectures. Would recommend. I felt bad for getting the grade that I did.
Very clear professor, but you have to work to understand concepts.
Really difficult, but very generous with grading. Mastering Physics was a huge pain, and while the midterms and the final weren't as difficult, they still weren't a cakewalk. I found I learnt a lot more from professor in his office hours than in the lectures. Students who did AP didn't struggle as much as I did. Labs are slightly confusing.
Phenomenal professor. Incredibly helpful and wonderful to listen to. He's extremely kind and teaches with a really inquisitive and charming manner. Definitely take him if you can.
He's very enthusiastic and clear in lecture. Exams are difficult but are generously curved; they're mostly based on lecture examples and discussion problems. His classes may be challenging but you will learn well. Even after 3 classes with him, Harris was still just as engaging and fascinating to listen to and learn from.
Great lecturer, but you will need time outside of class to fully understand the topics. Exams are very difficult, so expect raw scores between 30-40%. There curve is very good, but if you work hard enough and go to office hours you could probably get a high B or possibly an A.
I don't understand why students are so in love with this professor. Most of class time was wasted on Clicker questions and incorrect student answers to them. His office hours were helpful, but he had trouble explaining concepts beyond the related formulas. His questions were also difficult to interpret at times. Generous curve on exams.
Solid.
Great Lecturer, really gets students involved. Tests are really difficult but amazing curve.
Tough tests but nothing unreasonable. Good professor overall, if not slightly over-rated.
I think he's overrated as a lecturer. He's good, but not as good as everyone makes him out to be. His exams are okay. The type of problems on his exams are similar to his homework and discussion sheets. If you can understand those, then you'll be fine.
Harris teaches through questions, but doesn't really write much on the board. The stuff he says in lecture could be helpful if you have a decent understanding of the topic already, but if you haven't read ahead, its useless but mandatory. He is a "good" professor but his teaching style didn't work for me. HARD test compared to other 9C classes.
He's a very intelligent guy, but his style of lecturing just doesn't work as well for me as I would like (had him for both 9B9C). He mainly writes examples and equations on the board, but talks his explanations at you, and if you're not a great notetakerunderstand physics, you're gonna have a rough time. Very difficult tests, but faiR
Harris is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are straightforward and easy to follow. Tests are hard but the grading was fair. Lots of Mastering Physics HW, but if you take the time to actually do it you'll do fine. Overall hard class but great professor!
Harris is a great professor. He lectures very clearly and is very engaging. Even through 4 classes with him, it was still interesting listening to him. 9D was an especially good experience since he wrote the book for the course and was very knowledgeable in the subject.
You are required to go to lecture because of iClicker questions, but you don't learn anything. The rare examples he does may be on the test. You don't learn in lab or discussion but one test question is drawn from each. Online homework is fairly challenging but you can find most answers by google. A very poorly structured class.
Solid Lecturer. 9D is the hardest of the 9 series in my opinion, it seems to be the weeder class to separate out the physics majors from everyone else. Still, tests were fair and quizzes are a joke as long as you did the HW. If you can find the solution manual to his book for cheap get it, it'll make the class easier.
Very respectable guy. His tests are super difficult, but very fair. Anything from lecture, hw, or discussion can be on a test, so review everything. He always invites questions and encourages even the simplest ones. Highly recommend him if you want to learn, but not if you want an easy A.
Amazing professor. He's very passionate about the subject and the lectures are always interesting. Tests and homework are difficult, but fair. Would definitely take again.
Dr. Harris is easily the best physics professor you could ever find at Davis. He may seem awkward at first, but he knows his stuff and has an amazing attitude towards his students. I heard he might be leaving soon, which makes me sad beyond words. Take his class while you can. And I'd recommend sitting in front row to absorb all his awesomeness!
Amazing professor! very knowledgable about the subject. He even wrote a book for PHY 9D. and he is very respectful to students very patiently answer questions
Excellent lecturer, and very clear. He does teach by example which works well for me but not everyone. Homework is tough, but if you do it without looking up the answers and really understand, you will do well. Midterms are similar to hw, so best way to study is to redo the hw.
He's a decent professor. I'm not much of a lecture person (i like to read the textbook and think by myself), but he seems really understanding of people and seems to answer even the dumbest of questions politely. I thought the concepts were difficult, but the curve is huge. Exam averages were low because half the people ditched his lectures.
Prof. Harris came back to teach my 9HD class after retiring the previous quarter, and it was amazing. The man is brilliant, cares about his students, and just awesome in general. Sure, it's not an easy A (you have to work for things), but it's doable and enjoyable.
He is the best teacher. His course taught in detail, patient, and professional, his class is helpful for English learn.
