Good professor overall; there are many worse for ACCT. He is a bit slow and unorganized when it comes to grading, but he prepares you well for the Dept. final. Good teacher, use the book a lot and class isn't mandatory, unless you plan on passing. I give myself a C for effort and still pulled a B in the class. I would definitely recommend this guy!

Decent instructor. Offered a lot of extra credit as a result of a badly planned test. He is not very creative and really only goes over homework problems each class session. Then again, it helps tremendously unless you already completed the homework. Make sure to use the book's website for practice tests - some of the questions were on the final.

He's an easy grader, as long as you read your materials you should pass. Accounting is very hard, this guy will do his best to help you, but reading+homework is something you should really do to pass!!!

I thought he was a good professor. He goes over examples with the students telling him how to do it, and corrects them if they're doing it wrong. Sometimes gets it wrong himself though and never really clarifies the answer unless someone directly asks. Funny guy, enjoyed the class. Exam reviews he gives are good.

I took Acct201A 3 times and Mr. Hoffman finally clarified the subject for me. The textbook must be read 2-3 times, preferably before class. Use the study guide, do the homework, and complete all extra credit offered and you're guaranteed to pass. Eventhough class attendance is not mandatory, I recommend it. Excellent professor!!!

This teacher was absolutely amazing! just be sure to read the first few chapters really well and you'll be fine. The curve was pretty big and I ended up with an A in the class. He made it so clear just pay attention in class. TAKE HIM!

I felt Prof. Hoffman did a great job covering the material in the time we had. He was always available during office hours and by text. He gave very comprehensive prep work for exams and the final- if you put in the time, use the online tools (topic tackler, chapter quiz, etc.) and see him if you are having trouble, you should get an A or B.

Best choice for 201a!! His students have the highest average grade out of the department. He goes over the homework in class, so it's easy to understand. Very helpful! Study guides really help before exams. Also, he is easily swayed by the class--we talked him into pushing back test dates and eliminating quizzes altogether!

Great professor. I currently have him at 830 in the morning. His class is very fair. Students need to read and show up to understand the material. Accounting is not a talent we are born with, unfortunately. I sit in front to stay on task and it seems to work. Good luck! :)

Mr. Hoffman is the teacher to take for any accounting class. His teaching methods keep students involved rather than snoozing. He is very helpful and available at all times. Just keep track with his study guides. His tests are difficult because he tries to prepare you for the very hard standardized final. Do all the homework and extra cred.

Hoffman is so freaking cool! If you want to pass accounting and you absolutely suck at it, take him. He will work with you and help you pass this class. Weekly quizzes and online homework. 3 exams and a final. If you have 3 exams including the final that are As and 1 that's a C he will raise that C to the average of your other exams.

Randy Hoffman is an excellent teacher. He has a good sense of humor and he has many good stories from his years in the industry, He really cares about his students, and prepares them very well for the group final exam. All students must pass the final exam to pass the course.

Professor Hoffman is most likely the best accounting teacher I have had. The subject isn't easy, and you have to study to pass, but he is very helpful and can really explain the material so that it is easy to grasp. I've had two other 201B professors, and none come close to this guy. If you need to pass ACCT 201B, take Hoffman, he is a big help.

The class is definitely easier than 201A and Hoffman may be the reason why I think it is. If you study and do the homework and quizzes (both online) on time, then you will have no problem getting a B or C at least. Allows you to make up the past quizzes AND homework at the end of the semester.

You NEED to teach yourself accounting. Professor Hoffman will not teach you the material, he will only review it. However, he is probably the best accounting professor for 201B because he provides all the materials you need to do well. Allows you to remake quizzes and homework. Has 3 exams and 1 final worth 30% of your grade.

Great professor! Accounting is supposed to be hard and he makes it as easy as he can. Hes also very funny and has a ton of real world experience. I had him for 2 accounting classes and there may be alot of work but all the sections generally have the same amount of work. The textbook is necessary but if you read it you will be fine.

Accounting became my life at CSUF because the department requires so much work. Hoffman is funny but you don't learn much in class. One day is a lecture and another is a lab, do well on the group projects because they saved me. I would recommend him but beware 201B will probably be your hardest class, plan accordingly.

Very clear structure of the course. He doesnt teach as much as I would like, but the assignments he assigns really help with learning the information. If you do the homework and learn the concepts when youre doing the homework, everything will make sense in his lectures. You have to learn the concepts first and then he clarifies them in lectures.

You pretty much have to teach the subject matter to yourself, but that's easy to do when you have so much homework assigned. Hoffman is nice but is pretty useless when explaining things in class. Just expect to do a lot of work and you should be fine. I just did the work and studied and got an A in the class.

Awesome teacher. Will help you if you go into office hours. Sometimes the TA's don't help--go talk to him. There's a large online portion. Deducts like 26 points for missing one day of class. This class was really tough, and self taught. Thats just how accounting is really. It helps to have a teacher like Hoffman who understands that it isn't all rainbows and butterflies. A LOT of practice because it is accounting. I took him during regular semester and did not pass. So I took it during summer and ended up with a B. Tough because accounting at CSUF is tough in general. Very challenging course. Case's are hard if you get a bad group. It is essential to study for his tests. Homework can be long and tedious. Definitely have to work to get a good grade. He helps you out a ton by dropping certain assignments and rounding test scores up.

This is a class with a lot of work, but it's doable. The subject is hard but he does try to help. He curved a test because the class did bad and deducted some homeworks and quizzes from the final grade. Final was pretty easy but you should still study a lot for it. I was terrified to take this class but it really was not that bad!

This class is by far one of the most challenging courses I've ever taken. Expect a lot of HW, quizzes, and lecture videos. There are 3 tough Midterms and the Final. Also, 4 group cases. If you work hard, you should be able to keep up and pass. Though very diffficult, you will learn a ton. Mr. Hoffman is always there to help, he's funny and kind.

This class is very similar to 201A with Hatton, but WAYYY easier. Yes, there's homework 4x a week but it's just more padding for your grade Incase you do bad on exams. The weekend before the exams he gives you a VERY GOOD idea on what's gonna be on the exam. Overall an A or B can be achieved if you put in the work. If you want an easy pass avoid.

Same structure as ACCT201A with Hatton: lecture and group cases. Significantly more homework than 201A, but the repetition helps you comprehend. Make sure to read the book thoroughly and use all the tools that are given if you want to succeed! Although daunting, Hoffman's Titanium is very thorough and detailed-- just use Ctrl + F.

He is one of the best accounting professors I have ever met. You can absolutely achieve good grade if you put work in. Lots of hw and four group cases. He is nice that he would drop the lowest three homework scores and he replies texts in less than 10 mins to answer your questions. He is always there to help!! If you really want to learn, take him!

Hoffman perhaps is the best accounting professor at csuf! He wants you too pass and helps you in any way possible. You can tell he WANTS to be in the classroom teaching, unlike other professors. Also a very funny guy! There is a lot of homework but you wont find a professor as great as him on campus.

Hoffman really cares about his students and tries to make this class as fun as possible. He expects you to read through the chapters beforehand (which will help you answer the iClicker questions) and then goes over anything that might be confusing. Do all of the homework and study off of it-- the test questions are similar in setup.

Second time taking this class and I still think it is one of the hardest classes in the business school. Hoffman will do anything to help you pass this class. Provides you his phone # for questions you may have. Utilize all of the help Hoffman provides. If he sees that you are trying and you are close to passing he will help you out. Avg grade C.

Tough tests, lots of homework, and multiple group projects. Effort is required to succeed in this class. Mostly self-taught online with review done in class. Lecture with professor is a combination of real world application, humor, and some examples.

ACCT 201B is pretty much a self-taught class, it's a lot of work and is meant to weed people out like 201A. Hoffman is a cool professor and really wants all of his students to succeed. Always stay on top of your homework and group work, watch online lecture before class, utilize all the resources he gives you and you'll pass.

MUST DO HW!! Trust me, it takes up a lot of your time but is worth a lot of points. Don't cheat on hw, actually learn how to do the work or else you won't pass. 4 cases, 3 midterms and 1 final. Hoffman is super nice and cares about everyone passing the class. Don't skip or else you get deducted points (25 points!!!!). Would def recommend though.

I found managerial accounting to be easier than financial. Less journal entries, more math. The work for the class is time consuming, but worth it because it helps prepare you for exams. The hardest part of the class is probably the case studies. Overall, pretty easy class if you're good at math.

I took this class in the summer, which I highly recommend. 3 Exams, quizzes for every chapter and quiz reviews for exam (he drops the two lowest grades), easy 10 pt video learning objective. Go to class but read the chapter before class to help you. If people are giving him a bad review its because they are judging the course instead of him.

The class has super clear expectations. The online learnsmart is critical to your success and group case work really cushions your grade. Before each exam he gives examples of every single type of problem. There is a lot of outside help available with the TA center, his office hours, and the fact that he lets his students text him questions 24/7.

This class is easier than financial accounting. It is true there is a lot of homework, but it helps, especially with the latter chapters in the class. Study hard for all of the exams, and make sure you go to his office hours and talk to him about any sections you find difficult. The online videos are very helpful when prepping for exams.

Good teacher. You have a student teacher one day, and then Randy the next meeting. He works hard to explain it. It is accounting, so expect to work hard for your grade, but totally do-able. Get to know him, because there are a lot of students. Take him.

Be prepared to work in this class! Accounting is a very difficult topic but Hoffman tries his best to explain it. He is actually really caring and wants you to pass, he even gives out his personal cell number to text if you need help! Don't miss the homeworks/readings because they make up a lot of your grade! Many people criticize 201A/201B. I don't think it is right to blame all the difficulty of the course on the professor. It's simply the subject material is difficult. For some it might come naturally others you have to really work to even pass. Hoffman does want to help he is the first prof that gives u his cell to text whenever if u need help.

This is a hard class for anyone, but Hoffman is very helpful and so are the SI (Supplemental Instruction) tutors in the library! Go to SI for help before hw assignments or the hw will be hard. Honestly don't understand what the fuss is about. He's great and teaches a great class. I'm currently in it and I have an A as of now (100% on all hw, quizzes, and the first exam). People that are complaining honestly just aren't putting in the effort. He is available 24/7 since he gives you his number. Don't hesitate to take, very nice&easy going

Honestly, if you have anything lower than a B then you just aren't putting in the work. Professor Hoffman made it so easy to pass this class. You don't even have to do that great on the exams to pass. Read the book, do the homework, show up to class, and go to SI. It's really not difficult. Accounting is learning a new language. You obviously have to put in the work and if you dont you will fail. Extremely helpful and accessible outside of class. Lots of homework, but will lowest ones at the end. READ BEFORE THE LECTURES. You will have no idea what is going on and it will set you back and it will be impossible to catch up.

Definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken. He doesn't really teach. The lectures go by so slow. He igets off topic A LOT. You have to teach everything yourself. Attendance is mandatory and he has a seating chart. He takes points off if youre absesnt... even if you have an excused absense.

Randy's a sick professor; he knows what he's talking about and gives real life examples as he was the head accountant for million dollar firms. Ton of hw though but that's how you get better. This is kind of the class that determines if you want to keep doing business or not b/c you have to try hard in this class and a lot of people dont like that.

Honestly not that bad of a professor, everyone complaining because they cant read or do the hw but his midterms are not that hard, literally just study the hw problems. The test questions are even easier than the hw. He is strict but obviously everyone would cheat if he wasn't especially with online school. Very passionate about his field.

unfortunately this is a teach yourself class but i realized with accounting you have to do a lot of problems to understand the material. if you take him be prepared to do a lot of hw. you need to read the textbook, only way i got an A. went to si a few times and the leader came in clutch for exam reviews. felt bad bc there was alot of complaining

idk why this guys gets such a bad rap. accounting isn't for everyone and can be difficult for those who don't enjoy detail-oriented tasks, but hoffman walks you through it at a digestible pace. he makes sure you know exactly what to expect for quizzes/exams - no surprises. he definitely cares about his students and is flexible with deadlines.

This was the first class in which I personally believe the RMP reviews are not accurate. Tests can be tough, but you should be fine as long as you read the textbook and study. HW is exactly like the problems that are done in class. ACCT is not easy, but as long as you put in the effort/time, Professor Hoffman's class should be bearable.

You have to read each chapter and take notes or you wont pass. 3 exams, work 220 each and a final. He tells you what to study for each exam question so for me, the exams were easy. Accounting isnt for everyone and this class will show you. I would definitely take him again. Put the work and your get that A.

Randy Hoffman is the GOAT fr. His class may be difficult but thats just because the dude is a literal Harvard MBA so hes doing this to PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR FUTURE. Mandatory attendance for lectures where he reviews the HW. Considering the tests are basically the HW with different numbers, this shouldn't be a bad thing. Don't let negative reviews from people who tried to sleep through this class scare you; if you pay attention and do the homework, this is a totally doable B.

Great professor, but it is a difficult class. If you do not ready before attending class, you will not be ready. Three exams and one final. The Final is graded heavily as it is 30% of your grade. Try really hard to obtain high grades for the three exams, so you do not rely on the final too much to pass the class. Overall, make sure to put effort.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! During class he would do practice problems and before you would have to read the chapter and do the homework. The class is not hard at all if you just read (i hate reading), taking notes helped as well. He curves like crazy and dropped so many assignments when posting the final grade. He really cares about students passing.

Professor Hoffman is a caring teacher and allows you to text him directly with questions all hours of the day. You need to read the book, do the homework, and attend lecture to do well. There are usually 4 assignments a week with some taking over an hour each, but the tests are very fair and he makes it fun. I can't wait to have him again.

Take him! This is more of the class being difficult itself. 201A was learning the material yourself and Hoffman reviewing it so I never found him to be a "bad professor." Attendance is mandatory; you are somewhat forced to pay attention. Take notes and stay on top of assignments and you will pass no doubt.

This class is A LOT at first because acct is a new subject for most of us and it takes a while to understand. Read the book and do the practice problems over and over to get an A. He doesn't really lecture, but he is absolutely hilarious.

This class isn't that bad. If you read the textbook every week and study well to prepare for the exams, you will do fine. His in class lectures almost always showed you how to do the homework problems. Attend class and pay attention and you will do fine.

Take him Trust! He is a fun person and gives clear examples of how to solve the HW so pay attention. His personality is a 10/10. Accounting is difficult to understand, especially if this information is new to you. You are basically learning the language of business, and you have to learn this in order to be successful in ANY field of business.

Pimp Daddy Hoffman is a G. Hilarious like always but strict on attendance. If a student steps out, he could expect to be on the receiving end of an attitude adjustment.

I'll be real, I've taken ACCT201A two times before taking Hoffman and it is in his class where I was actually able to understand what I was learning. There's a lot of homework for sure, but he'll grant homework extensions and since the homework is time-consuming, it definitely gives a lot of practice for the concepts talked about in class.

It felt like everyday was Christmas. Free points left and right. Easy class if you can handle 3-5 hours of work a week, go for it.

Attend SI. Hoffman does not lecture during class and spends a good amount of class not doing the examples problems sometimes but SI gets through the important lectures. Hoffman goes over what will be on the exam the class before which is very helpful in knowing what to be expected.

yo he is lit but its accounting. its not suppose to be easy. Most college class you need to spend time to learn by yourself anyways. I'll be 100% honest this is the best undergraduate accounting professor that you can take at CSUF. Accounting is a tough subject and it's boring Professor Hoffman somehow managed to make a boring class enjoyable. All you have to do to pass is read the chapter and like he always says, "You can never do too many accounting problems."

Super caring professor. The course is not hard, just requires studying a lot, not his fault. I got an A by reading the textbook chapters every week. He does have a lot of assignments due at the beginning of the week, extends deadline if you ask with a funny story. Randy Hoffman is a stud of a professor. Look it's accounting, to do well you have to put in the work outside of class. Hoffman doesn't necessarily teach the best inside the classroom, but he is a very good man who is accessible and helpful in his office hours. Hw on McGraw-Hill. He sets up the class to push students to pass. Study and work hard!

i love randy hoffman the dude is so chill and makes a lot of jokes... the class is really textbook heavy so get prepared to basically teach yourself the content cause all we do in class is practice problems. he is also very helpful outside of class, will work with you on extensions. love you big bro

Definitely one of the better Acct Profesors at CSUF. Ton of HW and reading to do, but if you keep up with it, it's not too bad, and great for getting an understanding of acct. Exams are every few weeks and he provides an overview of what is on there. Class is spent doing practice problems & you're meant to do HW/reading before class.

Prof. Hoffman is an awesome professor who make every lecture very fun and personal. There is a lot of homework but if you show up to every class, do the homework, and read then the class will be not big deal.

Great class for intro acct. Make sure to stay on top of hw and attend class to do the practice problems which really help your understanding. 3 exams. 1 final. Not difficult if you study. Hilarious Professor who designs the course for you to pass if you show effort and show up. Good luck!

there's weekly hws (3-5). it is a lot of work, but if you keep up with it, then you're good. no need to print, bc he only does like a couple of problems from the week's in-class problems. he prepares you really well for exam 1, but then he doesn't for exam 2 and 3. exam 3 was tough, but the final was easier. replaces lowest exam score with final.

The course is harder compared to 201A but that's not his fault. You have to read/keep up with the chapters or you'll quickly fall behind. The exams were tough, some of the wording was confusing or different than the questions practiced in class/hw. Attend class since he goes through many problems that appear on the hw. Overall, manageable class.

Professor Hoffman makes this intro accounting class really engaging. The workload is heavy, but with regular attendance, textbook reading, and practice problems, you can succeed. Unstuck Study AI was a big help for prep too. Overall, a fun course if you put in the effort.

Prof. Hoffman cares about his students. This is a hard class, but if you stick with it and do the work you will be ok. I actually suck at accounting, but I was able to pass his class by doing the work and showing up. His attendance criteria is diff. if you miss a class you lose points instead of gaining. He allows a cheat sheet for his exam USE IT!

Great professor for accounting. He really knows his stuff and is always open to questions. Lots of reading and homework, but it helps you understand the content well. He also tells us what is going to be on exams and allows a cheat sheet. As long as you put effort into the class, you should at least pass.

Overall a great accounting professor. He's very knowledgeable on the subject and probably one of the better accounting professors at CSUF. Most of your knowledge on the subject will come from reading the book. However, if you follow the class as intended by the professor, you should be able to get an A in the course.

If you do everything on time, you'll be fine. He's funny and explains concepts pretty well. About 2-3 hours of homework a week. Couple of tests and a final, all MC. Very time consuming, make sure to pay attention. I only recommend this class if you're ready for the workload. Concepts aren't hard at all, it's just the HW that makes everyone annoyed.

Ignore all the bad reviews about him, Professor Hoffman's class was very easy and you'll pass just as long as you put in effort. He lets you use a full paper cheat sheet for each midterm and tells you exactly what is on the tests. The homework can be annoying but if you get it done on time its light work.

This was a great class, the course load was heavy and the exams are rough but Randy wants all his students to pass and be successful in his class. I felt that he did everything to help his students be successful but it is up to you to want to be successful too, you have to put in the work to get results, just try your best and you will be ok.

Hoffman is an incredible professor! He genuinely wants his students to succeed, you actively have to try to fail his courses. His class is heavy on repetition, so you learn the material before coming to class, where he goes over sample questions. He essentially reads the test questions and allows a cheat sheet. A lot of work, but it is manageable.

best accounting teacher you could take. As long as you attend class/ pay attention to lectures + take notes on the lecture videos due every week, you will be good. I did not even have to read the book. Such a great teacher and really cares for his students. Allows cheat sheets on exams which are super helpful. Don't think it twice.

Professor Hoffman is a great accounting professor. He makes accounting fun and easy to understand. As long as you do the homework and attend class, you will understand accounting. He is so great at teaching accounting that I am taking him again for ACCT 201B.

Hoffman is a good but tough professor, and 201A is a step up for business majors after all the introductory 100 classes. Get ready to learn on your own, because his class meetings are mostly review on what you learned yourself on the online cengage HW assignments, which include videos that basically teach you accounting. Don't fall behind early.

If you are willing to work, this class is passable; the professor provides resources for you to succeed. You can pass if you are okay with independent learning/studying. Expect around 6-8 hours of work outside of class. I HIGHLY recommend taking notes on the textbook, even though it's optional, as it will make the tests and review much easier.

Hoffman is a great choice for 201A. It's independent study (McGraw Hill) and the class is just going over examples. He offers many opportunities for extra credit

Harder version of 201A. Hoffman cares a lot, and you'll succeed if you pay attention. Less HW to do in terms of hours, but more complex stuff. Cheat sheets are still there, final replaces your worst test grade, same stuff. Hard class, but worth it for sure. Hoffman is a superb teacher, but be warned, this is much harder than 201A. Would take again.

It's saddening how incredibly lazy students in Professor Hoffman's class are. He gives extremely detailed study guides before each exam, gives a crazy amount of extra credit/dropped low scores, and allows front and back cheat sheets, yet exam averages remain shockingly low and students complain. Stop blaming your professor and learn to work hard!

Great Professor! If you do the homework and reading you should do well in this class. Dont try to cheat yourself in this class by using ChatGPT. You don't learn and it doesn't help you in the long run. Just do the homework yourself and try to learn how to do it. :)

Great dude, people who dont like him probably just didnt do well in the class. The thing with accounting is you get it or you dont. there are people who use ChatGPT for their hw. When it comes to test time they dont do well cause they havent learned anything. Hoffman is entertaining and hates liberal arts majors doesnt get much better than that
